just a reminder to new artists this year that a LOT OF PEOPLE SELL THEIR "deisgn me an oc" CHARACTERS AFTER ARTFIGHT IS OVER. PLEASE REMEMBER TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY CANNOT MAKE A PROFIT OUT OF YOUR DESIGNS
Let's not jump straight to fearmongering and ruin it for the large majority that don't do this. So, As a reminder: 1) This is explicitly against ArtFight's rules to do. This is reportable and a bannable offense if they flip the design you made them from AF and EVEN if they attach any "value" to ARTWORK received through AF (including "trade" value) 2) This is already looked down upon in the character community. You can write a callout for users to blacklist and avoid said user on TH. Nobody likes a freebie flipper, period.

to the person saying artists should have more free one-off adopts - itâs really hard to do that without a character flipper coming along and snatching them up and then reselling a few days later for profit. freebies are easier to do in closed species because the person canât turn around and sell them.

15 Best Side Hustles You Can Start Earning With Now http://bit.ly/2M8rmFC
I'm a huge fan of earning more money, and I think everyone should have a side hustle. Side hustling can allow you to earn that little bit of extra money that can help you achieve your financial goals faster - whether it's paying off student loans or saving for retirement.
But there are a lot of side hustle ideas out there (here's our list of 50+ Side Hustle Ideas). My goal today is to show you the best side hustles you can start AND why.Â
I have three main criteria for side hustles, which I talk about below.
Earning Potential
Scheduling
Growth
Each one of the ideas below strikes a good balance of these. Let's break it down.Â
Best Side Hustles
1. Ridesharing
2. Deliver Food
3. Start A Blog
4. Tutoring
5. Online Freelancing
6. Rent Your Car
7. List Your House
8. Buy And Resell Stuff
9. Create Stuff To Sell
10. Help People Move
11. Be A Handyman
12. Babysitting or Dogsitting
13. Work Odd Gigs
14. Take Online Surveys
15. Sign Up For Freebies
Our Picks Of The Best Side Hustles
Here's our list of the best side hustles that you can do today to start earning more money.
1. Ridesharing
Yes, everyone talks about ridesharing - some people love it and some people despise it. However, it's our #1 pick for the best side hustle because it's one of the few jobs that you can literally do anytime, anywhere. Want to earn some extra money at 2am? You can do it? Don't want a set schedule? That's fine!Â
With ridesharing, you can earn when you want, on your terms. It's one of the only side hustles that is truly anytime, anywhere.
How To Start:
Uber - The first and largest ridesharing platform
Lyft - Check Lyft for specials they have for new drivers
Earning Potential:Â $1,000 per month
Schedule:Â 10/10
Growth Potential: 3/10
2. Deliver Food
Right behind ridesharing is delivering food. This has become one of the fastest growing trends nationwide, and as such, it's also one of the best side hustles. If you don't like people in your car, but still want to make extra money on your own terms, this is a great way to do it.
The only drawbacks are you can't do it all the time (restaurants aren't usually open at 2am), and you make less that traditional ridesharing. However, it's still a great way to earn extra money!
How To Start:
UberEats - The original food delivery platform still has one of the largest selections
DoorDash - Currently the fastest platform, expanding in many cities. Check out the DoorDash review here.
Earning Potential:Â $600 per month
Schedule:Â 8/10
Growth Potential: 3/10
3. Start A Blog
This is my favorite side hustle (this blog was started as a side hustle), but it's not an immediately income-producing opportunity. Starting and growing a blog does take time, but I estimate you can start earning at least $1,000 per month at the 12 month mark - if you do it consistently (e.g. 3x per week).Â
But, it does start slow, and it's a lot of work. However, the growth potential of a blog is nearly limitless! So, if you're looking for a long term side hustle, this could be it!
How To Start:
Bluehost - Start your blog on Bluehost for just $2.95 per month
Read This -Â How To Start A Personal Blog Or Website
Earning Potential:Â $1,000 per month with 12 months
Schedule:Â 10/10
Growth Potential: 10/10
4. Tutoring
If you're a teacher, or really anyone with a college degree, you can get paid to tutor kids online. One of the hottest growing areas of demand right now is teaching English as a second language online to children overseas.
One of the benefits of this is time zone differences. Our nighttime here in the United States is typically the day in other counties - meaning that this is the perfect side hustle if you're looking for something you can do at home, on your computer, at night.Â
These companies require you be a teacher or have at least a bachelors degree. You should also be comfortable teaching over webcam at home - so lights, good camera and mic, and some technical computer skills.Â
Remember, you can also tutor any subject offline by finding students in your area.
How To Start:
VIPKid - The original online ESL teaching platform, and one of the largest
gogoKid - A fast upcoming platform that is growing and hiring teachers
Earning Potential:Â $400 per month
Schedule:Â 4/10
Growth Potential: 4/10
5. Online Freelancing
There are so many ways to make money online freelancing. If you can read, write, program, make videos, or are open to learning a variety of skills, you can make money freelancing online.Â
Some areas that are easy to get started with are online transcription work (think of all the podcasts that need thins), online virtual assistant services, and even online social media management.
The bottom line is that the potential is limitless if you are even a little tech savvy or have writing skills.Â
How To Start:
Proofread Anywhere - Learn how to get paid to be a professional proofreaderââ
Transcribe Anywhere - Learn how to transcribe audio and get paid online
âFacebook Side Hustle Course - Learn how to dominate social media for small businesses
$10k VAÂ - Learn how to become a high paid virtual assistant
Earning Potential:Â $5,000 per month within 12 months
Schedule:Â 7/10
Growth Potential: 8/10
6. Rent Your Car
One of the coolest new ways to build a passive income is to rent out your car. If you have a car that you don't use often - maybe you're in school or work at home - you can rent it out to others! In fact, I have a friend who bought 3 cars just to rent via these services - and he makes back his payment and more each month!
These services allow you to list your car for rent on your terms. You set the price and availability - so if you want to drive it, you don't have to worry. Plus, they cover insurance as well!
How To Start:
Turo - The original car rental service, and one of the largest platforms
Getaround - A new competitor that also allows you to rent your car
Maven - A car sharing service that focuses specifically on GM vehicles.Â
Earning Potential:Â $600 per month
Schedule:Â 10/10
Growth Potential: 3/10
7. List Your House
Similar to listing your car, you can also list your house, or room, or garage, or any other space you might have where someone could stay. I've even seen people listing their backyard for camping locations! The possibilities are limitless.
You just need to put in a little effort to make your house or space friendly for potential people to come over, but otherwise, everything can be handled online! Check out our comparison of the top two companies - Airbnb vs Booking.com.Â
How To Start:
Airbnb - The original space sharing platform, and one of the largest to let you list your space
Booking.com - A huge travel site that allows individual listings
Earning Potential:Â $1,000 per month
Schedule:Â 6/10
Growth Potential: 4/10
8. Buy And Resell Stuff
This was one of the first side hustles I ever did. I would go to garage and estate sales and then start selling the items on eBay or Amazon.Â
Today, the technology has improved so much that there are a lot of people who make this their full time job. Search for flippers on Instagram and you'll see all kinds of people who are hustling and reselling stuff. And even better deal - search Craigslist Free Stuff and go get free things to resell. It's possible!
How To Start:
eBay
Amazon
Earning Potential:Â $1,000 per month
Schedule:Â 10/10
Growth Potential: 5/10
9. Create Stuff To Sell
Maybe you're not into scavenging for things to sell, but you have the skills to craft things to sell. If so, you can sell your own products online.
From creating stationary and unique gifts, to household items, to printables or downloadables, the potential for selling your own stuff is limitless.
How To Start:
Etsy Sellers Shop
Amazon KDP
Earning Potential:Â $600 per month
Schedule:Â 10/10
Growth Potential: 8/10
10. Help People Move
If you have the ability to help people move, you can easily make money in your spare time. Maybe you have a truck, or are strong and can lift heavy furniture.
There are people all over that pay for help moving - from moving their own houses, to when they buy furniture and need someone to help get it home.Â
If you're just the muscle, you won't earn as much, but if you have a truck too, you can really earn a lot.Â
How To Start:
Dolly - An app that connects people looking for help moving
Earning Potential:Â $300 per month
Schedule:Â 4/10
Growth Potential: 3/10
11. Be A Handyman
Are you handy around the house? Can you mount pictures or a TV? Can you assemble furniture, or setup a smart home device? If so, you can get paid for doing it for people near you.
If you have the skills, there are people out there looking for help.Â
How To Start:
Handy - An app that connects to people looking for handy individualsÂ
Amazon Home Services - If you have a business or license, you can find even more business here
Earning Potential:Â $500 per month
Schedule:Â 4/10
Growth Potential: 3/10
12. Babysitting or Dogsitting
Do you love kids or dogs? Would you enjoy making some extra money babysitting or dogsitting in your spare time? But maybe you don't know anyone who would pay you?
Now there's apps that allow you to connect online with people looking for your services. This makes it easy to be found, and also has a trust factor involved.Â
If you have the time and want to do these gigs, they are usually good pay for the work involved.Â
How To Start:
Care - A huge platform that connects caregivers and those seeking help
Rover - An app specific to dogsitting that lets you connect with people needing help
Earning Potential:Â $500 per month
Schedule:Â 4/10
Growth Potential: 3/10
13. Work Odd Gigs
This is one of my favorite ways to make money if you really have no idea what you want to do. Have you ever noticed people doing odd gigs around town - maybe working an event, or helping at a fair, or something that's just a one-off.
Well, you can find these gigs online and get paid to do 1 or 2 day random events. If you go to Craigslist -> Gigs, there are a bunch of listing for people looking for help with a random event.
It's not consistent work, but it's quick and easy to get paid.Â
How To Start:
Craigslist Gigs
Earning Potential:Â $300 per month
Schedule:Â 3/10
Growth Potential: 1/10
14. Take Online Surveys
I had to include this on here because there are definitely places that you can make money online. And this is a really low paying opportunity, but one that you can do in your spare time - any time.
In fact, I used to take these surveys when I was in class in college - so I was getting an education and getting paid. Basically, if you can turn on your computer, you can be earning a little bit of money.Â
But, the income potential with this is very low.Â
How To Start:
Swagbucks Surveys - Swagbucks now has a dedicated survey section, and you can get $5 just for signing up. Sign up here.
Survey Junkie -Â Earn cash and rewards for sharing your thoughts and opinions. Click here.
Earning Potential:Â $50 per month
Schedule:Â 10/10
Growth Potential: 1/10
15. Sign Up For Freebies
Here's another fun side hustle that doesn't have a huge amount of earnings potential, but definitely is a way to put extra money in your pocket. There's a huge list of companies that give away money just for signing up for their product or service!
Check out our full list of places to find free money, but here's a short version of the easiest options below.Â
Once again, not an amazing long term side hustle, but if you want to make a little money right now, do it!
How To Start:
Ebates - $10 Bonus
Ibotta - $10 Bonus
Swagbucks - $5 Bonus
MyââââPoints - $5 Bonus
InboxDollars - $5 Bonus
Chime - $5 Bonus
Stockpile -Â $5 in free stock
Robinhood - Free stock
Acorns - $5 Bonus
Webull - Free stock
Earning Potential:Â $50
Schedule:Â 10/10
Growth Potential: 1/10
What To Look For In Earning Potential
Whenever you're assessing the best side hustle, earning potential is probably going to be your number one priority. However, it will also likely be in relationship to scheduling.
For example, driving and delivering packages has a good earning potential with totally flexible scheduling. If you were going to compare this to working a second job, there is low earning potential and poor scheduling.
Earning potential also depends on your time horizon. If you have the time to invest in your side hustle, you can likely grow your earning potential over time. However, if you need immediate income today, you likely won't have huge growth potential.
How To Find Flexible Scheduling
A key factor in side hustles is flexibility. If flexibility didn't matter, you would just go get a job. But the reason most people are looking for a side hustle is because they are trying to easily accommodate extra income on the side of whatever they are doing during the day.Â
The most flexible jobs are all online based (or app based, like ride sharing and delivering). That's why the bulk of this list has online opportunities.
However, you can still do many of these jobs offline - especially tutoring. And there is good flexibility and earning potential there as well. But without access to a marketplace, it could be hard to find work (and get paid).Â
How To Assess Growth Potential
If you want your side hustle to grow over time, you need to think about growth potential as well. Some of these jobs have no growth potential. Others, like starting a blog, have huge growth potential.
This is really a personal question about where you want your side gig to go. Some people might just want some extra money for Christmas. Other people may want to try and scale their side hustle into their full time job.Â
There is no right or wrong answer here, but you should realize the future potential when you get started.Â
Final Thoughts
Hopefully these give you some good insights into what I think makes a good side hustle. Plus, this list of the best side hustles goes a long way to making things happen.

Growth Potential: 1/10
14. Take Online Surveys

In fact, I used to take these surveys when I was in class in college - so I was getting an education and getting paid. Basically, if you can turn on your computer, you can be earning a little bit of money.Â
But, the income potential with this is very low.Â

@ trading free ocs anon, it really depends on whether or not the creator allows it via TOS (but even then, it's yours now and its your choice if youre gonna go against it). Though I do agree you should disclose it was originally free, especially if there's no added art. Some people don't care, some people will write a 40 page callout that you're a horrible freebie flipper

THD Terms & Clarifications
Answers to some FAQ below the cut.
Flippers Freebie-Flipper, FF, Trade Flipper
Someone who receives a free character, either via the gifting game or via the freebie bin who then sells it for real or virtual currency.
DekuDog Naruto Dog, Jojo Dog, etc
A feral version of an existing character, typically labelled a Kinsona. The term âDekuDogâ stems from this thread at a time where the most common kinsonas on the front page were of Deku from MHA.
âWhy are DekuDogs bad but not Pikachu?â
Thereâs canonically more than 1 Pikachu. Thereâs not more than 1 Deku. If you took Ashâs Pikachu and made it human itâs still the same as taking Deku and making him a dog. Making your own Pikachu thatâs viable within the canon is fine, since a specific character hasnât been stolen itâs simply the species used. Search âpikachuâ on the blog for better explanations since yâall ask this every damn week.
What is a Kin/Kinnie?
People who LARP as characters. They can be found on TH forums arguing with people or having meltdowns they met someone else who didn't validate the fact they think they're Deku from MHA. Edit 17/11/2020 People on ToyHouse who species bend characters and claim ownership of them. Theyâre a hot topic as they seemingly support IP theft. You can find an array of âKinsonasâ that are simply DekuDogs in the Kinsona Tag. They spawned the TH Admins to change the rules on âderivative contentâ because of the abundance of rip-offs.
Will add more as needed.

New Post has been published on https://computerguideto.com/awesome/15-best-side-hustles-you-can-start-earning-with-now/
15 Best Side Hustles You Can Start Earning With Now
Iâm a huge fan of earning more money, and I think everyone should have a side hustle. Side hustling can allow you to earn that little bit of extra money that can help you achieve your fiscal aims faster â whether itâs paying off student loans or saving for retirement.
But there are a lot of side hustle notions out there( hereâs our listing of 50+ Side Hustle Ideas ). My aim today is to show you the best side hustles you can start AND why.
I have three main criteria for side hustles, which I talk about below.
Earning PotentialSchedulingGrowth
Each one of the ideas below strikes a good balance of these. Letâs break it down.
Best Side Hustles 1. Ridesharing2. Deliver Food3. Start A Blog4. Tutoring5. Online Freelancing6. Rent Your Car7. List Your House8. Buy And Resell Stuff9. Create Stuff To Sell10. Help People Move11. Be A Handyman12. Babysitting or Dogsitting13. Work Odd Gigs14. Take Online Surveys15. Sign Up For Freebie
Our Picks Of The Best Side Hustles
Hereâs our list of the best side hustles that you can do today to start earning more money.
1. Ridesharing
Yes, everyone talks about ridesharing â some people love it and some people hate it. However, itâs our# 1 pick for the best side hustle because itâs one of the few chores that you can literally do anytime, anywhere. Want to earn some extra money at 2am? You can do it? Donât want a decide schedule? Thatâs fine!
With ridesharing, you can earn when you want, on your terms. Itâs one of the only side hustles that is truly anytime, anywhere.

Right behind ridesharing is delivering food. This has become one of the fastest growing trends nationwide, and as such, itâs also one of the best side hustles. If you donât like people in your auto, but still want to make extra money on your own terms, this is a great way to do it.
The only drawbacks are you canât do it all the time( eateries arenât usually open at 2am ), and you make less that traditional ridesharing. However, itâs still a great way to earn extra money!

3. Start A Blog
This is my favorite side hustle( this blog was started as a side hustle ), but itâs not an immediately income-producing opportunity. Starting and growing a blog does take time, but I estimate you can start earning at least $ 1,000 per month at the 12 month mark â if you do it consistently( e.g. 3x per week ).
But, it does start slow, and itâs a lot of work. However, the growth potential of a blog is nearly limitless! So, if youâre looking for a long term side hustle, perhaps that is it!

4. Tutoring
If youâre a teacher, or truly anyone who knows a college degree, you can get paid to tutor children online. One of the most wonderful growing areas of demand right now is teaching English as a second language online to children overseas.
One of the benefits of this is time zone changes. Our nighttime here in the United States is typically the day in other districts â meaning that this is the perfect side hustle if youâre looking for something you can do at home, on your computer, at night.
These companies require you be a teacher or have at least a bachelors degree. You should also be comfortable teaching over webcam at home â so illuminates, good camera and mic, and some technical computer skills.
Remember, you can also tutor any subject offline by finding students in your area.

There are so many ways to make money online freelancing. If you can read, write, program, make videos, or are open to learning a variety of abilities, you can make money freelancing online.
Some areas that are easy to get started with are online transcription run( think of all the podcasts that need thins ), online virtual deputy services, and even online social media management.
The bottom line is that the potential is limitless if you are even a little tech savvy or have writing abilities.

One of the coolest new ways to build a passive income is to rent out your vehicle. If you have a car that you donât use often â perhaps youâre in school or work at home â you can rent it out to others! In fact, I have a friend who bought 3 cars just to rent via these services â and he makes back his payment and more each month!

Growth Potential: 1/10
What To Look For In Earning Potential
Whenever youâre assessing the best side hustle, earning potential is probably going to be your number one priority. However, it will also likely be in relationship to scheduling.
For example, driving and delivering packages has a good earning potential with altogether flexible scheduling. If you were going to compare this to working a second job, there is low earning potential and poor scheduling.
Earning potential also depends on your time horizon. If you have the time to invest in your side hustle, you can likely grow your earning potential over time. However, if you need immediate income today, you likely wonât have huge growth potential.
How To Find Flexible Scheduling
A key factor in side hustles is flexible. If flexible didnât matter, you would just go get a job. But the reason most people are looking for a side hustle is because they are trying to easily accommodate extra income on the side of whatever they are doing during the day.
The most flexible chores are all online based( or app based, like ride sharing and delivering ). Thatâs why the bulk of this list has online opportunities.
However, you can still do many of these tasks offline â especially tutoring. And there is good flexibility and earning potential there as well. But without access to a marketplace, it could be hard to find work( and get paid ).
How To Assess Growth Potential
If you want your side hustle to grow over time, you need to think about growth potential as well. Some of these undertakings have no growth potential. Others, like starting a blog, have huge growth potential.
This is really a personal question about where you want your side gig to go. Some people might just want some extra money for Christmas. Other people may want to try and scale their side hustle into their full day chore.
There is no right or wrong answer here, but you should realise the future potential when you get started.
Final Thoughts
Hopefully these give you some good insights into what I believe makes a good side hustle. Plus, such lists of the best side hustles runs a long way to inducing things happen.

Reduce the Pain at the Pump With These 20 Ways to Save Money on Gas
Filling up the gas tank can be a thoroughly miserable experience as you watch the counter flip past $40, then $50, and keep on going.
But you can save money on gas based on where you fill up, how you pay, when you visit the gas station, how you drive and even the condition of your car.
Weâve compiled 20 smart tips to help you spend less on fuel that could save you hundreds of dollars over the course of a year.
How to Save Money on Gas at the Pump
The biggest savings will be evident in the price you pay at the gas station. So itâs worth shopping around and employing a bit of strategy before filling up.
1. Use Apps to Find the Cheapest Gas
You donât want to buy gas at one place and then come across a station with cheaper fuel just down the street. Several websites and apps tell you the price of gasoline at the stations in your area. GasBuddy and Waze are two popular options.
Look for the cheapest gas stations along any of the routes you normally drive for work or shopping. Donât wait until your tank is near empty and be forced to buy gas wherever is closest.
The price of gas can vary significantly across state lines, so if youâre planning a trip, check where prices are lower throughout your route. Avoid getting gas at stations just off a highway exit or in the middle of a major city, as stations in those locations tend to charge more than ones a little more out of the way.
2. Skip the Premium Option
Higher-octane gas isnât necessary or beneficial in most cars, so youâre just spending more money when you buy premium. Premium gas can cost about 20 cents per gallon more than regular-grade fuel. Use regular-grade gasoline unless your carâs manufacturer specifically requires premium.
3. Join a Fuel Rewards Program
Many gas station chains and grocery stores across the country offer fuel rewards programs to try to turn you into a loyal customer. Each gas station fuel rewards program and grocery store fuel rewards program has its own set of rules on how much you can save and what you have to spend in order to get the rewards, so read up on the details.
GasBuddy also offers its own fuel savings program called Pay with GasBuddy. You can save 5 cents per gallon by signing up for free, or you can save 20 cents per gallon by signing up for one of its paid versions. (Note: Exxon Mobil, BJs, Costco, Samâs Club, H-E-B, select Walmart stations, select Arco stations and some small, local gas stations donât accept the Pay with GasBuddy card.)
4. Use a Rewards Credit Card
When you go to fuel up, choose a credit card that pays you cash back or one where you can earn rewards points when you purchase gasoline. Just be sure you know what youâre getting into before opening a rewards credit card. Pay the fuel charges off in full each month so youâre not paying interest on your gas purchases.
5. Use Cash Instead of a Card
Some gas stations charge a lower price per gallon if you pay with cash rather than a card. Itâs their way of avoiding card processing fees. While some stations will let you pay the cash price if you use a debit card, others wonât. Check with the gas station before you swipe your card, or simply use cash when itâs time to fill up.
6. Use Free or Discounted Gift Cards
You can earn gift cards or cash from survey sites like Swagbucks or Survey Junkie. You can also purchase discounted gift cards from sites like Raise or Gift Card Granny.
7. Fill Up Early in the Week
According to a 2018 GasBuddy gas price analysis, gas prices tend to be the lowest on Mondays. Sundays and Tuesdays are other good days to buy cheap gas. Avoid filling your tank on Thursdays or Fridays when gas prices tend to be the most expensive.
How to Save Money on Gas With Better Driving Habits
How frequently you drive and how you operate your vehicle both play a role in how much you spend on gas.
8. Share Rides
If you live near your co-workers and have similar schedules, take turns driving so you can all drive less each week. Organize a carpool with neighbors or friends to transport your children to school or extracurricular activities, and swap driving duties among the parents. Less time on the road means less gas used and more money saved.
9. Plan Routes
Plan your shopping trips and other outings in efficient ways to reduce your drive time. If the grocery store is near your job, do your shopping after work rather than waiting until the weekend. Do your errands all in one day rather than making several trips on different days.
Cutting a few miles several times weekly can add up to hundreds of miles saved annually. That could save a fill-up or two.
10. Reduce Your Idle Time
Donât start the car and then leave it running for a long time while you wait for everyone to get in or to fiddle with your navigation. Make sure youâre ready to go before starting your engine. Idling just wastes gas and causes more air pollution.
11. Accelerate Slowly and Coast More
Be gradual when youâre speeding up or slowing down. Generally, the faster you accelerate, the more gas you use. Be gentle on that pedal when getting up to highway speed. Youâll also get better mileage by coasting more, so plan ahead for stops and turns. Take your foot off the gas a bit sooner, and slowly glide to a stop. This actually works.
12. Use Cruise Control â Sometimes
When itâs hilly you might get better mileage without cruise control, because the system will tend to downshift too much and waste gas. But otherwise, cruise! Staying at a steady speed with cruise control has been shown to save on fuel usage â plus you can make sure you donât go over the speed limit.
13. Reduce the Use of Your Heater and Air Conditioning
Blasting the heat in the winter or the A/C in the summer has an effect on your fuel economy, so keep that in mind.
There a long-running but still inconclusive debate about whether using air conditioning or rolling down the windows contributes more to increased fuel consumption â as the wind resistance from open windows creates drag on your vehicle.
When driving low speeds you may want to cool down by lowering your car windows. But if youâre driving on the highway (or even driving above 30 miles per hour), you might be better off with the air conditioner on and the windows up.
14. Slow Down
Following the speed limit or driving just under it can pay off in more ways than you might think. The faster you drive, the more wind resistance you face, which reduces your fuel economy.
How Your Car Affects How Much You Spend on Gas
The condition of your car makes a difference in gas consumption. Learn how to keep your ride in money-saving shape.
15. Check Tire Pressure
Having underinflated tires can lower your gas mileage and cause you to lose about 2 cents per gallon, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. To find the proper tire pressure for your car, check your ownerâs manual or the sticker in the driverâs side door jamb or in the glove box.
16. Check Your Gas Cap
A bad seal or missing cap can allow gas to evaporate from your tank. Besides costing you money, this pollutes the air. Replace your gas cap if the rubber seal seems worn or damaged. You can buy one at an auto parts store for under $20.
17. Lighten Your Car
The less you have weighing down your vehicle, the better gas mileage it gets. Look at what youâve got in your car and remove anything you donât need. No, this does not mean your mother-in-law. But that neglected sports equipment in your trunk can go.
18. Remove Racks
If you donât use that bicycle rack, remove it. Take off that ski rack while youâre at it. Racks are extra weight and create more wind resistance â both of which reduce gas mileage.
19. Use the Right Oil During Oil Changes
Using the wrong grade of motor oil can cost you 3 to 5 cents per gallon, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Be sure to use your manufacturerâs recommended grade of oil, and look for motor oil designated as âenergy saving.â AutoGuide says synthetic motor oil (which may cost two or three times more than conventional motor oil) reduces friction better and improves your gas mileage.
And while youâre getting your oil changed, make sure to check your air filters. A clogged air filter can reduce your gas mileage.
20. Buy a More Efficient Car
Making your next vehicle one that has a higher MPG (miles per gallon) rating is a sure-fire way to spend less on gasoline. Consider a hybrid car â or an electric one, if you never want to worry about buying gas again. A vehicle with a manual transmission tends to have better fuel efficiency than an automatic. Plus, driving a stick-shift is cool.

The Ultimate Guide to Babysitting (Plus How to Command a Higher Rate)
New Post has been published on https://craftsguideto.com/awesome/the-ultimate-guide-to-babysitting-plus-how-to-command-a-higher-rate/
The Ultimate Guide to Babysitting (Plus How to Command a Higher Rate)
Years ago, I ran as a live-in babysitter for a couple of months. I didnât have to dress up like Mrs. Doubtfire, and the kids were OK, but the experience still might be part of why I chose to never have infants.
However, if you like being around kids more than I do, you could construct decent money as a baby sitter. By the end of 2018, Care.com found that âthe member states nationalâ average hourly rate for a baby sitter was $15.83, which was more than a 30% increase from $12.07 rate in 2013.
And thatâs merely the base rate. But more on that later.
All this is to say that babysitting is no longer merely a business for teenagers; as an adult, you may be more likely to find work.
Thinking of adding a babysitting side hustle to your income? Hereâs what you need to know.
How to Become a Babysitter
What makes a good babysitter? Yes, you should like children. But itâs not all fun and games, according to Connie Fong, vice president of brand, Care.com, who notes that newbies to babysitting should brush up on those invaluable soft skills.
âTaking introductory courses can help aspiring sitters learn the key skills to babysitting, like responsibility, problem-solving, decision-making and leadership, â Fong said in an email. âPlaces like the American Red Cross offer classes in child care that covering the basics of caring for kids and even better, many classes can be found online.â
When youâre just getting started, word-of-mouth is one of the best ways to boost your babysitting business and to find new customers. Provide great service to friends, family and working neighbours, then ask them to refer you to their network of mothers.
Depending on your locating, you may find possibilities posted on Monster.com and Indeed.com. You can advertise your services for free on Craigslist.
If you donât want to go it alone, there are several online platforms specifically set up for connecting parents and baby sitters, including Care.com and Sittercity. Both offer free membership options as well as paid versions that include background checks and improved placement.
When setting up your profile on babysitting sites, include more than the basic facts to attract parents who are looking for specific work history and personality traits that are a good match for their family, according to Fong.
âShare information beyond,â I like caring for kids, ââ Fong wrote in her email. â[ Babysitters should] include more specific details such as their years of experience, the types of responsibilities they have had, and special skills or passions that may help with the job.â
So maybe all those arts& crafts class could ultimately pay off.
How Much Can Babysitters Make?
Your pay rate will depend on a variety of factors, including the following :P TAGEND
Location. You can charge more in cities with a higher cost of living. The Care.com calculator suggests the rate for babysitting one child in San Francisco, California, is $21 per hour, while in Toledo, Ohio, the going rate is $13.50 an hour.
Number of kids. You can typically charge$ 1 or$ 2 more per hour, per kid.
Age of sitter. Adults earned more.
Time. Late night and on-demand schedules typically result in higher pay. You can also charge a premium for high-demand nights like New Yearâs Eve.
Additional qualifications. âAccording to a 2017 Care.com Babysitter Survey, 66% of parents say they would pay more for a sitter with CPR and safety training, â Fong wrote.
Additional responsibilities. You can charge a higher rate for going above and beyond regular babysitting responsibilities, such as picking the kids up from school or helping with homework.
Which Should You Be: Babysitter, Nanny or Daycare?
The line between has become a baby sitter and a nanny can be a tough one to determine, but the more important question is whether youâre an independent contractor or a household employee.
First, if you donât get paid more than $2,100 by any one client in a year, youâll normally be considered an independent contractor, which means youâll need to pay the self-employment tax along with your income tax.
If you earn more than $2,100 per year from one client, then the IRS considers in-home caregivers to be household employees, which means your employer has tax-compliance responsibilities like payroll taxes.
However, the IRS says, âA worker who performs child care services for you in his or her home generally is not your employee.â So babysitting in your own home makes it clearer that youâre an independent contractor and that the parents wonât need to deal with payroll taxes.
If you do decide to babysit kids in your home, you might be classified as a daycare operator, in which example you may need a license and have other legal complications. Each country has its own laws covering daycare, and youâll want to make sure youâre on the right side of them.
For example, child care law in Illinois specifies that you need a license from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services( DCFS) if you care for more than three children( your own are included if theyâre under 12 years old ). So if you live in Illinois and want to avoid the need for a daycare license, simply limit your service to watching three or fewer kids.
Consult a tax expert if youâre in doubt about your status.
Whatever path you choose â babysitter, nanny, daycare provider â thereâs plenty of responsibility involved when it is necessary to caring for other peopleâs children, so it shouldnât be a task you enter into half-heartedly.
You may not be able to retire early on a baby sitterâs income, but expect your bonuses to come in the form of hugs and cookies â not a bad deal.
Steve Gillman is the author of â1 01 Weird Ways to Build Moneyâ and inventor of EveryWayToMakeMoney.com. Heâs been a repo-man, walking stick carver, search engine evaluator, home flipper, tram driver, process server, taunt juror, and roulette croupier, but of more than 100 styles he has induced fund, writing is his favourite( so far ).
