Okay. I’ll bite. Sorry if I’ve asked before and forgot. But what is leverage?
No worries! I'm always happy to explain stuff (And I don't think you've asked about it before)
Leverage is an American tv show that started in 2008 and is centered around one guy (Nate) who works for an insurance company hunting down thieves or something. (I have no idea what his official job title is)
Anyways, he quits the insurance company because Reasons And Drama, and then gets recruited to run a heist with several criminals: Parker (Thief), Hardison (Hacker), and Eliot (Hitter/Guy Who Punches People). There's also a character named Sophie who's a Grifter/Conwoman.
Anyways, things go as they go and eventually the crew decides that their talents are better used to help people than stealing things for their own profit. This is where the title comes in, as they work to provide leverage for people who don't have the money and resources to protect themselves from Big Companies and Rich People.
I really like it because it's just silly and fun and the good guys always win. The bad guys who hurt people might seem like they're going to win for a moment, but in the end they always lose and the innocent get what they deserve.

@beatingheart-bride
"I think she learned it from her old boss," Randall sighed: He'd heard Minnie speak less-than-fondly of "the old bastard", as she often called him, keeping a portrait of his scowling face on the wall of her office, ostensibly as a reminder of who originally opened the shop, but in Randall's opinion, it was an act of spite, spitting in the eye of a man who was just as, if not more so, discriminatory than her.
"He always gave her a hard time because she was a woman-always browbeating her, telling her she'd never get anywhere-he laughed at the idea of her ever taking over the shop," he continued, Dorian's brow furrowing at this as he gaped, "So she's been exactly where you've been, and yet she treats you like dirt! I would've thought all that mistreatment would've made her kinder, more...compassionate!"
"Evidently not," Randall snorted, as he leaned up against Emily, sighing, "I hope I never become like her, once I start my own haberdashery in California. I hope I never become so cruel, stepping on others just to get somewhere in life..."
"You never will," Dorian assured him, placing his hand on his best friend's shoulder, giving him a comforting squeeze as he said, "You could never be like her, Randall, never. It's just not who you are-I don't think you have anything to worry about, believe me."

Guys if you want to learn abt the Menendez brothers case please watch the documentary "the Menendez brothers: Erik tells all" (it's free on freevee and on prime) instead of that shitty Netflix show Ryan Murphy made. Erik has stated it's false and even his and Lyle's families don't like it. Ryan Murphy just made it for money and to sexualize a case he has no interest in.

The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes dir: Billy Wilder, 1970
Tumblr media
I only watched The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes for the first time a few days ago but it lights my brain up in that special way that I know I’ll revisit it a lot. Don’t get me wrong, it’s far from perfect, for one thing Colin Blakely’s Watson is a little too shouty for me, but it’s very worthwhile to check out despite its shortcomings, which I think mostly come from the fact that so much was cut from the intended script.
I absolutely love Robert Stephens as Holmes. His face is so good, he has a way of looking at Watson when he doesn’t know he’s being observed that is very soft. I thought I was hallucinating the beginning of this movie with Holmes telling the ballet dancer he’s gay and in a relationship with Watson. I thought it was going to be played for a joke, and it was a bit, but it didn’t just end there. Holmes and Watson have a conversation about the repercussions in a lengthy scene that turns very serious by the end. I can’t believe this was 1970 and no one has since tried to build on this specific dynamic in a more meaningful way. Someone needs to remake this into a mini-series exactly how Billy Wilder intended it to be, here’s hoping public domain can make it so.
Tumblr media
[above: script page from the cut story The Curious Case of the Upside Down Room, where Watson creates a fake case to make Holmes feel better]
Also, the backstory of the making of this film is so out of control: Robert Stephens’s nervous breakdown and suicide attempt during the production, the amount of years Billy Wilder was trying to write it and get it made, the interference of ACD’s son, the Loch Ness monster prop that the crew lost in actual Loch Ness, the immense scope of the episodic story they were going for, the way it got cut down from its original 3 hour 45 minute runtime and how that cut footage was lost forever! (this is crazy! everyone go check your attics and storage lockers right now).
In one of the interviews I found, Robert Stephens says “if something is boring — if it’s three minutes long it’s too long, but if it’s interesting it’s never long enough…you don’t want it to end.” Big same Toby Stephens’ dad, big SAME. I didn’t want it to end. I read the uncut script and I am just floored at what we missed out on. Thankfully some footage and audio remain of some of the cut scenes (but still! check your basements too).
Just fully let it settle into your brain that they filmed all of these stories in the script, and then cut most of it away. Like that is mind-blowing to me, it existed at one point as it was fully intended to be. If this was made now during home entertainment times, they would have no problem releasing an almost four-hour movie, but at the very least there would be a big director’s cut dvd release and we would be enjoying all the small Holmes x Watson moments we deserve.
Anyway, in pretty short order I found a bunch of interesting links to stuff, details below. I also consulted my very well-thumbed Conversations with Wilder book by Cameron Crowe, but there wasn’t that much more information in there. I have Robert Stephens’ memoir Knight Errant and the TPLOSH blu-ray on order so I’ll add to this post if I find any more good resources. Let me know if I’m missing anything, and enjoy!

Free Rhys Darby ASMR Sources
So @hang-on-lil-tomato got me thinking with their post about Stede Story Time, I did all this research into all the Rhys Darby works and I realised I should probably compile it in case other folks are looking for the same things.
So yeah, I mean, Rhys doesn't do audio books as of yet, but man would that be amazing if he did. So for those of you who want to hear some good 'ol Rhys Darby voice, here's some sources. Please feel free to message me if you have more. ! I'd love to add them, and I'll tag ya :D
---
Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet Youtube Compilations
Stede say'd Ed for a full Minute by justagaycatboy
Stede Bonnet being a bitch for 4 + mins by Rae Hamilton-Vargo
Stede Bonnet being the crew's dad for almost 4 minutes by grim weaper
Stede Bonnet screaming for 2 minutes 15 seconds by "Our Flag Means Death"
Stede Bonnet cursing for almost a whole minute by Murder Turtle
----
TV or Mini Series
Rhys Darby in Japan (Freevee on Amazon)
So as someone who lived in Japan for a bit, this series is really really fun. It's awkward, and funny and it's almost all Rhys Darby as he's narrating and living the whole damn thing. There are quotes from this show that I use in my every day life, I love it so much.
Short Poppies (Freevee on Amazon)
Considering most of the characters in this show are in fact Rhys Darby, it's a great way to hear his very colourful range. I haven't seen all the episodes, but I find it quite endearing.
Intrepid Journeys (Rwanda) (Youtube/nzonscreen.com)
Ty @hang-on-lil-tomato and @meanmisscharles for this recommendation! I haven't watched it yet but here's the description:
"This Intrepid Journey sees comedian Rhys Darby taking an OE to the landlocked African country of Rwanda. Darby makes a bunch of friends in the markets of capital city Kigali, then heads on a jungle adventure. Far from the New York office of his Flight of the Conchords character Murray, he searches for critically endangered mountain gorillas. Darby is guided by François — a personable and entertaining park ranger, fluent in primate dialect — whose aping gives Darby a run for his money in gorilla impersonation. Darby is quietened by a sombre genocide memorial, and a 200 kilogram silverback."
Stand up
These are pretty self explanatory, wanna hear Rhys Darby talk for an hour or so? Stand ups the way to do it, all the voices you could want and no one interrupting him.
Rhys Darby I'm A Fighter Jet Rhys Darby: This Way Spaceship It's Rhys Darby Night Mystic Timebird
Youtube Shorts/Channels
Rhys' Youtube Channel featuring stand up shorts, sketches, Rhys' playing games and other fun stuff like "The Alone Rangers". All stuff I have to dive into, thanks again @hang-on-lil-tomato!
Movies
Love Birds (Included with Prime Video)
So if you follow @celluloidbroomcloset you have probably heard of Love Birds, and as someone who is totally normal for Rhys Darby, and loves birds and used to do rescue work, I have to day this movie is adorable. It's a really cute love story, and good god Rhys is hot AF. He and Sally Hawkins have amazing chemistry, and you get lots of good Rhys voice...in a romantic setting. I apologize ahead of time to any of you who lose your soul to this movie.
Coming & Going(Freevee)
So I haven't seen this one personally, so I can't speak to it (it's on my list for this week actually!) so I'll update this once I do.. but in the mean time, here's the description:
"When Lee (Rhys Darby), a young, skilled OBGYN who lacks confidence with women, suffers a minor injury that temporarily lands him in a wheelchair, he meets Alex (Sasha Alexander), the girl of his dreams. Convinced she has only paid attention to him because he's in that chair, he stays in it to win her affections well after his injury has healed."
Podcasts
The Cryptid Factor
You're gonna hear more than just Rhys, you'll hear from Dan Schreiber and Buttons (not ofmd buttons) and some other folks occasionally but you get to hear Rhys in his element, which is awesome because he is the goofy nerdy man we all know and love. The Cryptid Factor on Apple Podcasts
You can also go to their patreon and subscribe for free there-- the paid versions have video footage from a lot of shows and some other cool perks including stickers and book clubs and such.
Aliens Like Us
Thank you @hang-on-lil-tomato for this one! I hadn't found it before
General Reference to Works
Here's some overall guides to his various voice works (thank you again to @hang-on-lil-tomato )
--- Anyway -- hope that helps with your Rhys Darby very normalness :D

Halloween Movie Fest 2024
In past years I have compiled together links for free movies you can watch on Youtube for the Halloween season; some of those posts are still floating around Tumblr even though most of the links are now defunct.
Unfortunately I can't in good conscience encourage you to watch movies on YouTube anymore since the platform has become just about unusable with extensive ads, takedowns, fake videos that are just links to external files full of viruses, etc.
So instead, I'm going to list out horror movies that are available on the FREE services which you can watch legally online or through your TV. As usual these are horror films I personally enjoy and recommend. I'm going to list options for the services in case you prefer one over another. Happy Halloween!

Hey uh for those who don't know, my favorite TV show ever is currently free with ads on FreeVee/Amazon Prime (no subscription).
It's called The Tick and I'd love to get a legit Fandom going for my favorite show. It's aggressively gay and the main character is disabled. Please for the love of fuck watch The Tick.
Yes I know the first episode suit is terrifying. It's only like that because it's the pilot episode. The rest of the show has him in a much better looking suit.
Tumblr media
It's a joy to watch, so please. Please give it a chance I will love you forever.
