Apollo Bar & Kantine Tucked into the courtyard of the historic ‘Kunsthal Charlottenborg’ the exhibition gallery at the ‘Royal Danish Academy of Art’, ‘Apollo Bar & Kantine' is a hidden Copenhagen treasure. The interior has soaring ceilings and great Danish design elements, including Poul Henningsen lights, as well as plaster-cast statues from the surrounding museum. Here you will find locals and students from the ‘Royal Danish Academy’ grabbing lunch. Quench your thirst with interesting non-alcoholic drinks (think: coffee berry skins with tonic and rose) and funky wines. This daytime cafe and bar offers uncomplicated dishes (soups, salads, stews) that may seem simple, but prove seriously big on flavour. Apollo Bar & Kantine Within the ‘Kunsthal Charlottenborg’ gallery you will find Copenhagen chef Frederik Bille Brahe’s ‘The Apollo Bar & Kantine’ which boasts soaring ceilings and generously proportioned windows. Décor, by designer Rune Bruun Johansen is sparse but full of thoughtful touches, such as Børge Mogensen’s ‘J39’ chairs inherited from the art school next door. Meanwhile, a row of plaster cast statues, raised against a red wall, brings a dash of drama. The canteen offers one lunchtime dish, while the more intimate bar serves three meals a day, plating tantalising creations such as beef tartare with piment d’espelette and grapefruit.
