This is the first of Freddy MacKay's solely-authored books that I've read, although I've read his two books authored together with Angel Martinez (the #Lijun series - which I highly recommend) and I loved them. I've also read other books set in the #IMPUniverse, including A Message from the Home Office, which gives you a very brief introduction to Captain Spencer, so I was excited to get to read his story. I thought The Nut Job was very well-written. There's plenty of exciting moments and funny ones (the #nut innuendos tickled my dark little soul), as well as endearing ones. I was a little caught off-guard by the alien terminology (although you can figure out a close approximation). But the burgeoning relationship between Spencer and Raijin was a lovely one and I enjoyed seeing Raijin find himself again, thanks to Spencer and the littles. I would love to see how their relationship progresses because the ending definitely left me wanting more. #FreddyMacKay #TheNutJob #goodreads #Amazon #ARCreview #bookreview #review #iheartbooks #readingisfundamental #kindle #bookstagram #book #books #read #reading #readmorebooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CF72zPtHcbU/?igshid=1rv5s4wkzep2k

So, I've decided to share my reviews here too since I'm not sure how many people see them on #goodreads or #Amazon #ARCreview #bookreview #iheartbooks #readingisfundamental #bookstagram #book #books #review of #AngelMartinez's and #FreddyMacKay's #Lijun book two: #TrystsandBurningEmbers #TW for this book: violent death, abuse #SPOILERS AHEAD… Trysts and Burning Embers picked up where the first book left off and continued to beat me to an emotional pulp – it’s been a while since a book/series has hit me this hard. This second book also continued to disappoint my sappy romantic heart and relentlessly carried thorough all the emotional suspense from the first book but in different ways. Tally and Haru's relationship is still very tenuous, although they've made a bit of progress as Tally learns to read his new mate a little better and Haru works on opening up to the well of potential happiness that he's too scared to trust in because of his horrible past - but that progress is seriously tested by the violent deaths of children that grievously brutalizes their just-on-the-edge-of-happy little family in ways that ripped my heart to shreds. Plus, Tally’s position is still in danger, almost more so now, due to more whodunit murder-mystery and political intrigues/attempted coups. The resolution of THAT particular aspect made the darkest part of my soul crow with triumph and an evil smile still curls my lips when I think of it. Luckily, this second book ends with a slightly HierFN, a guarantee of another emotional rollercoaster to come, and hopefully the HEA my heart desperately wants for all of them in the third book, when it finally gets published. I NEED THE THIRD BOOK!!! I HAVE TO KNOW THEY'RE ALL OKAY ULTIMATELY!!!!!!!!!!! https://www.instagram.com/p/CFGA4YNBvmL/?igshid=195c8lfvdcs3x
