Hello! I know you said you don’t care about Freaky Fred at all, but please consider this question. S Meyer said that he’s gonna appear in the next 2 or 3 books, and I suddenly thought - what if Renesmee and Fred fall in love with each other (I know, there’s Jake, but still)? Like Meyer wouldn’t let him be alive without a reason, and this reason should be good. I feel like he fits her more than Jake or Nahuel, and his gift could protect her too. What do you think about this possibility? Thanks!
How about none of these people, Renesmée is three months old where canon leaves us and was born in 2006, unless Meyer's setting the next book in the mid-to-late 2020's (which she has said she won't, to my recollection the plan is for the planned sequel to take place just a few years after Breaking Dawn. That's not two decades.) then Renesmée will be too young for me to feel particularly enthused about her entering a romantic relationship.
Yes, Renesmée has a different growth and maturation rate than human children, many in the animal kingdom are ready to start popping out babies after a year. However, I'm going to let my human sensibilities take heavyweight duty here. Renesmée would, as a sexually active woman in a relationship, be navigating the emotional and psychological complexities that come with a relationship between two people. Cats and dogs don't need to worry with that, for all that my cat got into a weird love triangle this one time.
A relationship between two people requires a certain iota of mental maturity, not just physical maturity.
And, quite frankly, given the weird, sped-up, secluded childhood Renesmée is looking at where she has no peers, no access to secondary socialization, and an adult man actively grooming her, I'm not sure Renesmée's going to be in a mental place where it's advicable she gets into a relationship anytime soon. She could, and this is where fic authors have to write her in such a way that I can believe it, but my point is that growing up will be easier said than done for her.
I'll admit I'm colored by the fact that my need to ship her with anybody is approximately zero.
So, with all that in my mind, what about Fred/Renesmée?
The first thing that comes to mind is that I don't see how they hit it off in the first place. Fred would be some random vampire they encounter who makes them all feel like he smells bad. I imagine he'd be curious about the yellow-eyes Riley talked so much about, and saddened to hear about Bree, but beyond that he really has no reason to stick around.
Even if he decides to hang out for a bit, he eats people blood, so unless he switches diets (something very few vampires do) he's not going to hang around for long.
Now to Renesmée, she has her family, she loves her family and in particular her mother. For her and Fred to become a thing, Renesmée will have to be attracted to this guy in the first place, which based on every description of the guy and his gift is... oh I've got it.
Scenario
Renesmée is still living with her family but growing increasingly resentful of certain persons. In particular, Edward stifles her, Jacob wants her to be his wife, and then Bella, whom she loves, doesn't truly see her as a person.
Along comes some guy named Fred, who says he was part of Victoria's dread newborn army. He ran away before the battle took place, and turns out he has a gift! It's the gift of, uh, making people feel absolutely sickened by you. He's the vampire equivalent of a skunk.
Gross, right?
Edward is immediately dismissive of him, while Jacob glares at his red eyes. This guy is a killer and not even a friend of Carlisle's, the only thing he's got going for him is Bree's dying plea to Edward that he be kind to Fred should they ever meet.
But Bree was a martyred young girl.
Fred is just gross.
Edward is nice to the guy, but with a heavy overtone of condescension.
Bella thinks he's alright, she'd kind of forgotten about Bree to be honest. Anywho, back to reading Wuthering Heights.
The rest are just as ambivalent - Rosalie makes it clear she hopes the guy finds the exit door out of her life at the earliest possible convenience, Esme starts to cry when he uses his gift because it makes her feel like the house isn't clean enough, Jasper struggles to let his guard down around the guy.
Renesmée, at first, is dismissive of Fred as well. Oh, he's nice enough, but she has no reason to care one way or the other.
Then she notices the way her family regards him.
This is not a man they approve of.
This, in fact, might be the last man in the world they'd approve of.
He's not Jacob, not even Nahuel, he's not even one of Carlisle's friends. He's the least kosher vampire in the world, without being dangerous, like giving Demetri a booty call would be.
At first she's just very friendly to the man, enjoying the way it makes Jacob glare. Heh, five points to Renesmée.
But Edward and Bella haven't noticed yet.
So she invites Fred on a solo hunt.
That gets a rise out of Jacob, but she argues that she just wants to hang out. He very begrudgingly agrees to stay at home while she takes off.
Edward has a bit of a frowny face at that, but nothing more. Bella just says "Have fun, Nessie!"
Screw it all. Halfway through the hunt, Renesmée makes Fred stop running. Summoning the essence of every flirtatious smile she has ever seen her mother direct at Edward, Renesmée walks right into Fred's personal space.
Suddenly uncomfortable and feeling very put on the spot, he instinctually starts oozing "you want to throw up" at her.
Renesmée has a teen rebellion to enact. She powers through the disgust. "I like you, Fred," she says, words slightly forced because she really does want to vomit.
Fred makes a squeak at the back of his throat.
Summoning every inch of courage and willpower that she has, Renesmée forces herself to ignore the violent urge to projectile vomit, and gives him the world's fastest, lightest, peck on the lips.
She then jumps ten feet back, and gives him a thumbs up. "Yup, I definitely fancy you," she lies.
Fred has no idea what just happened.
Jacob and Edward, who followed them because they did not trust this guy, later kill Fred.
Bella never notices her daughter.
Happy, anon?

Do you think gifts are actually as rare as smeyer wants us to believe? Because it feels like there are a lot of gifted vampires running around (that are known to be gifted. There might be even more like Siobhan and Carlisle). Especially those with a traumatic past seem to have one (Victoria, Renata etc.). Granted, these numbers might have been artificially inflated by vampires looking for gifted humans to turn into gifted vampires (Jane and Alec come to mind) but it's like "Gifts are super rare. Meet my gifted family and all our gifted friends and would you believe you and your demon daughter are also insanely gifted. So rare"
You already estimated (or was it the Muffin?) the vampire population at a few hundred individuals and it feels like about 10% have a gift, making it not common but not unusual either like being left handed.
Also do you think gifts are hereditary or influenced by some sort of trauma/danger?
Sorry, it's a lot it's just something that botheres me in the world building.
The estimate asker is referring to.
Survivorship bias.
We have three genres of gifted vampires.
1. The ones who were turned because of their gift.
Maybe it wasn’t the direct reason, but without their gifts they wouldn’t have ended up in a position to be turned in the first place.
Examples: Alec, Alice, Bella, Benjamin(was turned by Amun for his gift), Demetri (same as Benjamin), James (vampire was impressed by his tracking skills and turned him), Jane, Laurent (his spidey senses told him to pursue the vampire), and Maggie (Maggie was dying, but her gift made her able to sense something was off about Siobhan and Liam. Siobhan quickly realized Maggie was gifted, and turned Maggie because of this).
2. The ones who wouldn’t have survived without their gift.
These vampires made it past humanity for other reasons, but they would have died early on if it weren’t for their gifts.
Examples: Fred, Heidi, Jasper (would never have survived Maria’s army without it), Marcus (sorry, I’m a terrible person. It’s true, though.), Renata, Renesmée, and Victoria.
3. The ones whose coven wouldn’t survive without them.
These vampires keep their covens safe one way or another. Quite notably, with the exceptions of the Romanians and Peter and Charlotte, we don’t see any covens without gifts. Which implies that the covens without gifted members don’t make it. Judging by how we see James use Victoria as a weather vane in Midnight Sun, her gift was how he kept himself alive.
Examples: Alice, Bella (arguable, as there wouldn’t have been trouble in the first place if she didn’t have her gift), Kate (she won’t win against the Volturi, but she’ll win just about every other close combat fight. In a brutal world of vampires killing each other without repercussion, her gift explains how all three Denali sisters survived for over a thousand years), Siobhan (she can simply will away threats), Victoria, and Zafrina (is that Senna or a tree you’re attacking?)
-
Then there are those who implicitly belong in these categories. Aro, for instance, without his gift would likely have been just another face in the crowd, and never become the leader of the Volturi. It’s likely he wouldn’t have lived to such an advanced age either. Chelsea, Corin, and Charles have also had huge advantages over others. Didyme, though it feels ironic to list her on this post, would have been invaluable in deescalating would-be fights.
I do think gifts are rare in the Twilightverse, but the thing is that among humans, gifted ones are more likely to become vampires, and when one gifted and one non-gifted vampire get into a fight, the gifted vampire is the more likely victor.
In the long run, you end up with a disproportionate amount of gifted vampires running around.

I apologize if you've been asked this before, but what are you most looking forward to in the future Renesmee book (if at all) and what would you like to see? Personally, I hate that were getting a Jacob x Renesmee book, but I'm really curious to know more about the Wolf Pack, Aro's plans, the Cullen family, and so forth. I also know we're getting a Leah P.O.V, and Freaky Fred is coming back which is really interesting... Anyway, sorry if this question is super random lol
For the record I don’t think the book should be written, because while I love me a problematic ship (see: the endless entertainment I get out of Edward/Bella), Jacob/Renesmée is a step too far even for me. I don’t want to see it.
Then there’s the fact that so far as I’m concerned, Twilight is a pit of despair.
Over the course of canon, terrible things happens to the full cast of Twilight, or they’re set up to happen like a sword of Damocles hanging over the characters’ heads. I agree with Meyer in that the end of Breaking Dawn is the calm before the storm, but unfortunately she and I fundamentally disagree on what a happy ending would entail. Her happy ending will be my nuclear wasteland.
Now, I’m all for bleakness, I wouldn’t enjoy Twilight so much in the first place if I wasn’t. The place Twilight is headed after Breaking Dawn is too bleak, though even for me.
Take Aro, for instance. As of Breaking Dawn he’s playing the prisoner’s dilemma with the Cullens. The Cullens are sitting around hoping Aro doesn’t attack them, and Aro is sitting around hoping the Cullens don’t rally another army. Not to mention that for as long as the Cullens are around, Volturi authority is not absolute.
A lot is at stake here.
To Caius it won’t even be a question, they have to take out the Cullens sooner rather than later.
So, after all his efforts to the contrary, Aro will have to pour gasoline over his once-friendship with Carlisle once and for all, and pick off Carlisle’s friends and family one by one. Or plan to, anyway. Meyer is a maverick, but in this I can predict her - Aro won’t win. And the only way the Cullens will be safe (according to Alice and Edward anyway) is if Aro and Caius are both dead.
Aro will die a bleak, meaningless death that was entirely preventable.
When it comes to the Cullens, I have a lot of unwritten meta on that subject but suffice to say I think they’re ill suited for each other and in dysfunctional relationships. Their coven is doomed, and will break up sooner rather than later.
As for Leah’s POV, I think that Leah has all the ingredients for a great protagonist. Love story gone wrong that continues to torment her, she’s the first ever female shapeshifter, and she’s got this idiot sunshine brother to protect. She’s prime protagonist material. However, hers would be a very different kind of story, and it would have had to start in New Moon. I’m just not very interested in what happens to Leah post-Breaking Dawn. Meyer might surprise me, but I’m not optimistic.
What I’d want for Leah is for her to go to college far away and never be involved with the supernatural ever again, and that won’t happen if she’s a POV character in a Twilight novel.
As for Freaky Fred, he brings nothing to the table. My interest is nonexistent.
So, between Renesmée marrying her babysitter, Bella’s power sending a thousand-year-long empire crumbling, and the Cullens totally not breaking up, I suspect I’ll end up saying “Ah, yes, this book is fanfiction Bella wrote after her life fell apart as a coping mechanism. Of course,” and then my voice breaks at the end as I start crying.
