I don't know if the acting in the prequels was intentional or not, but I actually like the lines, especially between Anakin and Padme, that seem stilled or awkward. It kindof reminds you of how young they are, how rushed this is, and how despite their passion they are both are fish out of water with this type of love. It makes them seem like real people, not prefect characters in a grand romance.

I promise you everything was 100% intentional. The idea it was bad writing, bad acting or that George was surrounded by “yes man” is completely BS. The Prequels are what they are because that’s what they were always meant to be. If you don’t believe me, believe the guy who made them:

“I wanted to write a love story in a style that was extremely old-fashioned, and frankly I didn’t know if I was going to pull it off. In many ways this was much more like a movie that from the 1930s than any of the others had been, with a slightly over-the-top, poetic style-and they just don’t do that in movies anymore. I was very happy with the way it turned out in the script and in the performances, but I knew people might not buy it.” — George Lucas

Anakin was supposed to be awkward because 19 years old are awkward, especially 19 years with low self-esteem and a ton of trauma. Same goes for Padmé, a competent politician but not an a woman experienced in romance. By their own admission, this was their first meaningful relationship. Of course it was awkward to watch!!! It was mean to be.

If we are being really honest, most of the “problems” found in the PT are the same “problems” found in the OT it first premiered: bad writing, bad acting, awkward moments, dumb characters created only to sell toys, corny wipes, etc. The only difference is if worshiping the OT makes you cool and edgy, and loving the Prequels make you stupid and tasteless ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
