It annoys TF outta me that June’s Diary isn’t big...
For those who don’t know, this quintet was put together by Kelly Rowland and Frank Gatson on the BET docuseries, Chasing Destiny in 2016. Later that year, L.A. Reid signed them to Epic Records and they began touring as the opening act for a number of artists. In 2017, Reid left the label due to sexual harassment allegations. The group dropped their debut mixtape, Male Edition, and were subsequently dropped from their label shortly after Reid’s departure. Nonetheless, they continued touring as independent artists before signing to Jussie Smollett’s imprint, Music of Sound and releasing their debut EP, All of Us, in June 2018.
If you love
crisp, luscious tones,
clean harmonies,
vocalists who can each carry the lead,
a fusion of genres,
strong vocal surprises (melismas, runs, riffs),
a girl group that consists of sopranos, altos, and a tenor with strong chemistry that exudes through their music...

The choreographer can’t be Sean since he’s doing his dance workshops. Normani’s been rehearsing this song since April (remember the video where you could hear one of the band members ask if they’re gonna rehearse the new song?). I think it’s Frank Gatson because why would he promote LL and tell us he worked with her? (I mean he did work with her but with the group also back in 2013 and she’s improved very much since then). So it’s either him or a heel choreographer.
That’s interesting. I dont completely mind Sean but I would like to see Mani utilize her options in different choreographers and the change in styles they can bring. I also dont want her becoming complacent in that area, not that we really have to worry about that with her

Part of Us: An En Vogue Fancast | An Interview w/ Frank Gatson Jr., Choreographer, Director & Creative Director
We had the opportunity to interview choreographer and director Frank Gatson Jr. During his career, Frank has served as the creative director for many artists, including En Vogue, Jennifer Lopez, Usher, Destiny's Child, Toni Braxton and Beyonce.
Frank is now partnering with the YWCA Southeast Wisconsin to create a reimagined YWCA. The Intergenerational Performing Arts and Athletics Center (IPAAC), a 70,000 square-foot facility, will be located in his hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and will offer movement & dance, athletics, singing, career expos and state-of-the-art studios.
In celebration of the center's launch, Gatson will host the YWCA Gala and Awards ceremony on Wednesday, December 28, at the Marcus Performing Arts Center to raise funds. En Vogue, Brandy and Luke James will be among some of the artists performing.
During our in-depth conversation, we discussed Frank's dance history and his involvement in IPAAC. We also discuss how he first met Cindy Herron, how he became En Vogue's longtime choreographer, the EV5 reunion, and so much more. This is only part one of our conversation. Keep an eye out for part two when Part of Us returns next year. We dive even deeper into everything En Vogue.

Lets Talk June’s Diary
Tumblr media
Dang! When was the last time we had a girl group - let me rephrase, an R&B based girl group? Thankfully, June’s Diary is here to fill the extremely voided area in music. These five ladies were sought out from Destiny’s Child Kelly Rowland and creative director Frank Gatson on the BET Show “Chasing Destiny” - basically the modern Making The Band minus the walk for some cheesecake.
These ladies can sing down! But as good as they are I noticed they get a lot of “eh” reactions. Not because the girls can’t sing, but because they do more covers than American Idol. Now personally this doesn’t bother me. I’m all for some good covers (Will be brought back up in upcoming post). I see a lot of comments of if these ladies keep doing covers that’s all they’ll be known for.
I’m not 100% knowledgeable on there record deal background but from my understanding they aren’t signed. I’m not even sure if they are still under Kelly Rowland’s hand. if they are unable to record original music because of label situations then I think them releasing the music they given us so far is a smart idea. You may be over the covers but it will keep June’s Diary on your mind long enough for once they do have some of own music dropping your perking up to listen.
I actually loved the idea behind there Male Edition mixtape. The purpose was to pay homage to 90s male groups + sprinkle The Beatles.

Listen to Male Edition
Now I do know that when the mixtape first released there was original song on there and it was quickly removed from damn near everywhere. Word is that it was taken down because the song was given to another artist which would be completely messed up if true. Wrap Around was a dope song.
It seems as though the music getting on the right track now. In the past week the group released the audio to new original track, “I Know Why Your Calling” and a sneak peak for the upcoming video to the song “All Of Us’ (check out at the end of post). The song has been out since the ending of Chasing Destiny.
This has gotten me very excited. I don’t care if it’s a cover or an original track from these ladies. I’m just always happy to get something new from them. I am rooting them, and I been a fan of Kristal since she was in RichGirl - you remember that short lived girl group back in 09, ‘10? It also featured Sevyn Streeter.
We never know what we missed until it comes back around and we need more R&B groups back. Maybe this could be the beginning of a new wave? I hope so - until then - sang on ladies!

Wow checking his background, frank gaston would be such a good choice
I know he’s still trying to get June’s Diary to become something but he would be a good choice to do some work for Normani too

June Bugs how long have we been saying that we didn’t want June’s Diary anywhere near R.Kelly. How many times were they asked about him in many interviews and always had to select the most diplomatic word choice of “R.Kelly has been nice to us and we are glad to have the opportunity to tour with him”
When you know they wanted to say something else you could hear it in their voice and see it in their faces. Get those women far away from him please.
