Moreover, you sort of... got good at being lost. In the sense of - not panicking. looking around to find clues as to where you were and how to get to where you actually meant to be. When all else failed, asking directions. But above all, not panicking. Staying calm and looking for useful information was something that you could very much learn through getting lost. You got good at paying attention to barely-audible announcements and at speed-reading the information tables at airports and train stations. You got good at paying attention to road marks in case you needed to describe the way to someone else, and at knowing where one place was in relation to another, because this was information you actively needed. And yes, it’s still a good idea to keep some kind of back-up in case your phone or sat nav fail you, and to hone some basic orienteering skills, even if some people feel they’re obsolete these days. (My 2002 ADAC Road Atlas Europe is definitely obsolete but it’s better than nothing)
#travelling#history#nostalgia#(sort of)#today's youth will never feel the sense of accomplishment you got from travelling on your own and changing planes in a foreign city#at a very large and confusing (for a 17 year old) airport after a random change of departure gates#or from driving all the way to the middle-earth festival in switzerland on your own half a year after getting your driving licence#with a note on the steering wheel that said a1 köln a3 frankfurt a67 darmstadt a6 mannheim a5 freiburg a2 basel a25 lausanne#and yes i did get lost. but also yes i got there. and back again#and let's not even get into the adventure of interrail#interrail is great but back then you absolutely would get stuck in rural france after taking the wrong train#and then realising that the station where you got out is only served once every two days#oh yeah that's something else about getting lost. everybody had some fun stories about their getting lost mishaps to tell

La squadra and what languages (other than italian ) i think they might speak:
Risotto ✂️: Greek 🇬🇷
Italy is very close to Greece, and i think Risotto participated to some summer camps with his church group ( his granny had some connections with the local diocese ) and so he spent 4/5 years of his childhood in the island of Corfù. He knows the basics of the language and can keep up with a conversation but if people start talking to fast his brain shuts down and start singing " Ciuri Ciuri " by Roy Paci.
Prosciutto 🍖: French 🇫🇷
Ok so with Prosciutto is a lil complicated; his mother was a piano teacher that traveled a lot in France for concerts and sometimes he hat to attend to ( or do his own recital) and being the son of two cold hearted perfectionists he was supposed to speak fluently the language at first try. At the age of 15 ( when he decided he had enough of his family and ran away to Napoli ) he decided to put his knowledge aside and speak only in italian or the sicilian dialect, cause his hate for the tongue was rooted so deep inside of him. Eventually Risotto found out about it and knows that if he needs someone to translate some documents in french,Prosciutto is the right man!
Melone 🍈: Chinese 🇨🇳
The city of Prato has one of the largest Chinese community in Italy and Melone, being the lil know it all he is, was more than happy to add this skill to his curriculum. He started when he was in university and of course the first thing he tried to do was flirt with the chinese students from the Erasmus program ( his pronounce was terrible at first and received so many slaps in the face ) but the more he practiced the more he actually started enjoying the complexity and history behind the language. Now he uses it when he has to do some hacker jobs or just finding weird sited for his " alone nights "....yes i know, this mann CAN'T be normal.
Illuso 🔎: German 🇩🇪
Illuso's father was born and raised in Dresden but during a lil trip in Torino, was mesmerized by the beauty of an italian brunette...3 months later he found himself living in a loveless marriage with her and their unborn baby. Now, he didn't love his wife but he truly loved his son and he did everything he could to teach young illuso about his german heritage: he spoke to him in german when his wife wasn't around, sang his childhood's lullabies to him, made illuso watch cartoons and read comic books in german...La Squadra's favourite narcissist may act all tough and brag about his high level skills with the language but truth is, he just remembers fondly those memories with his late father.
Ghiaccio 🧊: Finnish 🇫🇮
You just got your driving licence, you are an angry teen from Veneto and your first car is a green Panda 4x4 that you are using to run away from the police after your parents had " a lil accident ". What's the best thing you can do to let some steam out? Hide in the countryside of Emilia-Romagna, roll up a j*int and listen to Finnish heavy metal music. Ghiaccio had some really tough times before joining la Squadra, and had a lot of pent up anger to let out, so he found comfort in finnish music and while he screamed with their lead singers in a very akward imitation of their dialect he actually slowly started to learn that ancient and interesting tongue. Now he can proudly speaks a fluent Finnish and whenever he has occasion he spends time with Risotto, blasting music and doing some wild karaoke.
Formaggio 🧀: Spanish 🇪🇸
Ok cheese man here is the king of flirting, and what language yells sensuality all over the place ( in his mind at least ): spanish~ He spent MONTHS in Ostia Lido, trying to catch the secrets of the iberic latin lovers and how the get all the ladies during his adolescence and now with his arrogan-ehm confidence, roman charm and smooth talking like an italian Ricky Martin he literally has to peel girls from his body. No seriusly 2/3 times the rest of the team thought he wasn't going to get some that night but the moment he starts lowering his voice and speaking spanish, the girl is already swooning in his arms. Watch out this summer chicas~
#la squadra#jojo part 5#la squadra headcanons#jjba risotto#jjba prosciutto#jjba illuso#melone jjba#jjba formaggio#jjba ghiaccio#so sorry pesci fans#but i literally had no ideas with him#but now i want prosciutto to speak french to me#voulez vous coucher avec moi monsieur? 👀👀

Wednesday, 7th of August / Mercredi 7 août
Pretty normal day.
I managed to use my phone only a little, apart from a few vlogs which were pretty chill.
During the day I also got to the "Action" store with 2 of my sisters.
The store is not far and requires to walk a bit, so I liked having to walk under the sun since I tend to stay at home when I can. The trees and the light breeze made the walk feel peaceful and that's exactly what I look for in my daily life.
It's almost like rediscovering life.
So, the short trip was pretty fun, we arrived, I bought the few toys and sweets my sisters wanted, and for myself I found a very cute set of stamps ans ink pads. The best thing is that they're cheap and good at the same. Now I can make journaling more fun by adding fun illustrations.
(I don't know if this store exists outside of France but "Action" is like a store that sells lots of small things for a low price)
Then, during to way home we took a detour to an asian store to buy some noodles, I bought those that are popular, y'know the buldak ones. I recommend them, they're tasty.
I bought 3 that I had never tasted to see how they are, I'll probably review them after.
And then I got home and ate lots of sweets (because my period is messing with me).
Then time passed and I just got to bed.
I didn't have time to revise my exam for the driving licence, I should fix this and make time for it through the day.
So well, it seems that even though I plan to use the summer break month left to improve, I will need to make more serious efforts to accomplish my goals.
Bon, à plus !

Well, well, well...
I knew there were public relations games at hand once Roya Nikkhah wrote this:
“The country is struggling on so many fronts and big changes within the monarchy might not chime well with the times. I think Charles realises that the main changemaker will be William, who will have more licence to do it [as monarch] and Charles has decided to be the ‘steady-as-we-go’ monarch, providing the stability and continuity the country needs now.”
Because five days later, the Daily Mail had an article regarding how 20% of the staff is going to be on the chopping block.
'There is a real feeling that the staffing at all the palaces is too heavy,’ said one insider. 'There are far too many assistants to assistants. The King and Queen would prefer to pay people proper wages top to bottom but have less people. 'For instance, there are chefs for them and chefs for the staff. Why, they ask, can’t there be one lot of kitchen staff for everyone?’
The King and Queen eating food made by the same chefs as the ones that fix food for the plebes! Hey, even "frugal" Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip didn't do that! That is nothing to sneeze at. Eliminating TWENTY PERCENT of staff is a huge change of how things work behind the scenes in the monarchy.
However, for some reason, the BRF needs to project "stability" right now. As if they are not under siege from outside forces. Or internal problems.
It's already been established that they know there is a coming shit storm regarding Andrew. Then, naturally, there is the continuing Harry problem. No surprises there.
Why would they be worried about more problems? Was there some kind of preventable problem/scandal that most people don't know about? Or didn't know about?
Gee, it doesn't have anything to do with Gordon Rayner's creative writing project from 22 August, does it? You know, the one where "Kate is keen to do more." She's still going to work, you know? You didn't forget that did you? She's not some kind of loose canon that needs to be reined in by the King and Queen. Oh, no siree! She tells people in advance what she's doing. The peeps at the top are always aware!
She and her husband will always follow the directions of the sovereign! We know because that's why William was seen driving Andrew to church two weeks ago, regardless of William's "well-known hostility" to Andrew.
Now the plan is to say that they didn't want Kate's pregnancy--you know, the magical pregnancy that hardly anyone noticed--to distract from the coronation festivities. That Will & Kate didn't want to detract from the King's first year on the throne. That they didn't want to take away from everyone remembering the late Queen Elizabeth II. (Cue the PR shield that is the late QEII!) That the new princess won't stop Kate from fulfilling her duties in the short term. Because she's all about the "work," y'all!
That's why Russell Myers got the exclusive news that Will & Kate were going be at St. David's Cathedral in Wales to remember QEII on Friday. (KP didn't announce it; it was a strategic leak.) Just like Will & Kate will be attending more than one rugby game this year. They attended the Rugby World Cup in France separately, so that one parent can be at home with the new baby at all times. They are working parents, y'all! Don't you forget that they are working hard, just like everyone else in the UK! These are tough times in the UK. The heir to the throne and his wife work, work, work, work! That's what they are known for, right? "Work."
Roya Nikkhah's latest puff piece comes as no surprise to me today. Complete with an "aide" commenting about how William's "focus is always on getting on with the job and focusing on his work.” Because as the "aides" say William is “very keen” to work. William is a workaholic now, y'all! Don't forget that this article is basically straight from Kensington Palace given that an "aide" was quoted/mentioned FOUR times! (I do wonder what pr firm they hired to come up with this "work" strategy. Same pr firm that they'll use later this year when this "work" strategy doesn't completely pan out?)
Kate just made the comment, “I’ve been there and done that,” because she didn't want to detract from the coronation festivities. Just like she may or may not have drunk champagne at polo. (It was just photo assumption by lazy journalists & die-hard fans! LOL!!) She didn't look pregnant at Wimbledon because The King ordered her to just slay looks while wearing green! Because Kate is all about "getting on with the job!"
I'm sure no one with half a brain will remember that babies take nine months to gestate. Or that Kate has pictures from three other pregnancies that they can compare to 2023.
I'm sure there will be no upcoming problems for Will or Kate in the UK press regarding the nation's new princess. It's not as if the UK press wants to write about controversy! (Or the basement baby!)

More trivia! (this time with Extra Maps™)
For interest's sake I was trying to figure out where in Poitiers Cleo’s hôtel particulier might be, plus identify the train stations featured during Carmen's trip to Paris—and I think I’ve figured (most of) it out.
First of all, Carmen is supposed to be fifty yards from the townhouse in this shot.
That puts the building somewhere on the east side of the River Clain, slightly north of the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Poitiers, but not too far from what looks like the Pont Joubert (the little bridge in the lower right corner). The Caserne d’Aboville (barracks for the 9e Brigade d'Infanterie de Marine) would be a reasonable stand-in for location, and even looks a little similar in terms of architectural style.
The station Carmen flies in to also bears a more-than-passing resemblance to the real Gare de Poitiers
but the pattern of terrain she passes over doesn’t quite fit with what appears to be a southerly approach.
However! This particular background gets rotated and recycled about ten seconds after initial use (left being its first appearance, rotated for comparison; right is unaltered but from ten seconds later), and if we go by the second version,
the curve of the river is a close-enough fit for having taken a path like so
with the little arrow being her upcoming destination, the Gare de Poitiers. Unfortunately I could not match the station Carmen’s train briefly stops at to a real location en route to Paris
so if anyone recognizes it, please let me know! Which leads me to the other ‘???’ moment I had while working on this because
...yeah. Yeah, I’ve got NO idea what’s going on with Player’s map here. He's got France oriented in the usual 'up is north' way, but that just makes it weirder? Because by that compass, Carmen is moving south—even though Paris is east and NORTH of Poitiers.
Though this show does get a little fuzzy with its geography at times*cough*Interpol's HQ is in LYON*coughcough*and Devineaux’s conspiracy map has the Canary Islands on the WRONG side of Africa*cough*
Anyway, after Player regains Carmen’s signal, her GPS marker is heading in approximately the right direction
answering exactly zero questions about where it was going earlier, but all’s well that still ends (somehow) in Paris, I guess? The Gare du Nord then looks to be the best match for where Carmen makes her exit
even if all direct trains from Poitiers to Paris seem to go to Gare Montparnasse instead.
Update: this seems to have turned into a bit of a series, so check the reblogs to get an episode-by-episode for the rest of S1! A full-show overview is here. Also, the street Chase and Julia are driving down at the very beginning of the episode looks to be none other than the Rue de la Cathédrale, as the structure behind them is consistent with the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre’s south tower. From a cartographic standpoint, it does place them on the wrong side of the Clain as well as moving in the opposite direction of Cleo’s residence, but that’s where the artistic licence comes in, I guess. ;)

OMS Door to Door Challenge – Departure Date minus 12 weeks
Jane’s week
As part of our training, we have brought the motorhome to France. We have never motor homed in France before and wanted to stay at a couple of ‘aire du camping car’s’ so that we know what to expect. France is very geared up for motorhomes and many villages have aire’s, with secure barriers, fresh water, dumping station (yes I’m sure you’ve worked out what that is). Some even have electric hook ups. We travelled to Plymouth and took the ferry to Santander. Taking the dogs through passport control is so much easier with a motorhome than a car. You have to scan each pet’s microchip for border control, and it is so much easer in the motorhome because in a car, you have to contort yourself so that you can reach each pet.
We arrived at Santander and shared the driving to the aire on the first day. Luckily it was pretty straight forward to work the barrier to enter. The aire was just over the French/Spanish border into France. It was stunningly beautiful situated by a lake and very quiet.
youtube
The second new experience was operating the péage toll. When you’re in a motorhome you are so much higher up. I had never realised that not only are there buttons for tickets and contactless screens at car level, but they are also at truck/motorhome level, so you don’t have to jump out. I thought it was very clever, until the machine ate my credit card. Very frustrating. We had to arrange for the card to be stopped and have a new one sent. But of course, we are now in France not in the UK!
During the last leg of the journey, the Satnav told up that it was re-routing our journey due to a road closure. It took us over the top of some of the mountains, a route used by the Tour de France on the Pyrenees leg. It is also part of Ian’s route on the last day of his challenge. We wound our way slowly up the mountain, zigzagging all the way. The road was so steep that Tarka started to slide across the motorhome floor. Luckily, he managed to scrabble for his bed before he slid too far down the van.
Most people who have motorhomes take van security very seriously and we are no different. We have some great stickers on the outside saying ‘Dog On Board’ as a deterrent. We also have a hidden tracker, which links to both our phones. Every time the ignition starts or stops we get a notification on our phones. It also tells us exactly where the motorhome is at any point in time. Expensive but we think it’s an investment.
A couple of weeks ago, I told you that I had to re-apply for my 3-year medical driving licence. I’d had some extra tests which were sent directly to the DVLA and I was waiting with bated breath for the results. I thought it would be fine, but you just never know do you! So, I was delighted when a shiny new licence arrived just before we left for France. The other good news is that since being here in France, I am feeling a lot less tired, even with the heat, which tends to cause fatigue. RESULT.
Ian’s week
“Maybe, deep down, cyclists know that hills, and the temporary pain and struggle they involve, are a fantastic metaphor for life. It’s shit when you’re struggling. But the pain will end. It always does. There’s always a summit. You’ve just got to keep going”. Mike Carter.
On the way to Auzat we stopped at a French service station which had a sculpture dedicated to the Tour de France which was interesting.
I haven’t cycled for a couple of weeks, mainly because I was finishing off a few jobs and getting ready for our break in France, we also did an interview with Geoff from the OMS South West Group which will be aired in July – we will send you the link when that happens.
So here we are in the Ariege and I have been out on the bike twice so far. Devon's hills can be tough but are nothing compared to the mountains.
My first cycle was down the valley from Auzat to Tarascon and back. Just over 20 miles, the first half is mainly downhill which means that the return is mainly up! Nearly 900 feet climb in about 10 miles.
The second ride was an extension of the first going through Bompas and Mercus. After crossing the Ariege river I returned through Tarascon to Auzat. Although it was only seven miles longer it felt like twice the distance. Cycling up from Tarascon in 27 degrees and full sunshine was tough which is summed up quite well in the above quote.
Thank you for reading this blog. If you would like to see Ian's training routes you can find them here

we drove through five countries yesterday* and my opinion is that drivers everywhere should have to retake their tests and renew their driving licence, like every 5-10 years.
I passed so many exams when I was 17 that I couldn't pass now! There are multitudes of people who have acquired disabilities and/or brain damage (including me!!) since they took their test
and I honestly think a lot of people are not actually as qualified to operate heavy machinery as they think they are
okay rant over
* Netherlands - Belgium - France - England - Wales (a 12 hour journey)
other drivers will see your safe distance from the vehicle in front of you and go "is for me? 🥺" and then proceed to not use their turn signal before swerving into your lane

Driving in Italy as a tourist: all you need to know
It is understandable why so many people think of Italy as their dream vacation destination, with its gorgeous beach villages, breathtaking architecture, and isolated communities. Italy is renowned for its beautiful landscapes, delectable cuisine, and kind inhabitants. So what's holding you back from travelling to this idyllic European nation?
Before purchasing this ticket, you should know a few things if you're preparing to take that ideal vacation. This guide has everything you need to know about Italy, including procuring an international driving permit Italy, driving restrictions, prohibitions, automobile rentals, and major tourist spots.
How does this guide assist with driving in Italy?
Many people's dreams of driving in Italy have come true. Modern-historical hybrid statues and structures are more appealing, enjoyable, and liberating. Can you drive here, though? Our in-depth driving guide will give you the confidence to drive if you're nervous about driving in the country.
Basic information
Italy, a country in southern Europe, is famous for its delectable cuisine and lovely architecture. Millions of visitors come to the nation each year from around the world, attracted by its lively culture and turbulent past. However, before you fantasize about eating Italian pasta and Neapolitan pizza, you must know the country's travel restrictions and security precautions.
Geographical area
Italy is a nation in southern Europe that borders Greece, Romania, Austria, Spain, and France. This boot-shaped nation protrudes into the Mediterranean Sea and is connected to the south by the Alps, the Po River, and islands like Sicily. Italy is renowned for its beautiful scenery, and many regions of the nation are home to untamed mountains and clear lakes.
Each city in the nation is unique, with its food and accent, as few highways link places in this rocky environment. In addition, the country's hilly geography contributes to its typically moderate temperature. But if you travel to southern Italy, you will find stunning coastlines. In reality, the nation boasts a variety of landscapes that are suited for different kinds of tourists.
Land size
Sicily and Sardinia are part of Italy's 301,230 km2 of territory. Sicily occupies approximately 25,708 km2 of the mainland's 1,185 km long and 381 km broad. On the other hand, Sardinia covers 24,090 square kilometres (9,300 square miles).
International Driver's License for foreigners
If you want to complete all the requirements and adhere to the traffic laws, exploring Italian cities and towns by car may become one of your most treasured experiences. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is one of the prerequisites for driving in Italy's cities and towns by car, which may become one of your most treasured experiences. An International Driving Permit (IDP) Italy is one of the prerequisites for driving in Italy. A travel document, an IDP, enables you to operate a vehicle abroad.
Does Italy need a foreign driver's licence?
For up to six months, foreigners must get an international driving permit to drive in Italy. You must present both a local and an international driving licence when renting a car in Italy. You must still provide the authorities with your IDP even if you drive in Italy with a US licence.
Renting a car in Italy
Discovering Italy is like unwrapping a trunk of the most exquisite objects you've ever seen. Although the country's public transportation system is superb, most visitors still rent vehicles to reach the key tourist spots. Rural locations and coastal communities are both conveniently accessible by automobile. You should know a few things about renting a car in Italy before you begin your internet search for the ideal vehicle.
Automobile rental
You may hire a car in Italy if you hesitate to use the country's public transportation system. It is simple to locate a reputable automobile rental agency in Italy.
Required paperwork
Driving in Italy requires the same documentation needed to rent a car. A valid driver's licence, identity card, credit card, and passport visa with a minimum one-year expiration date ,and international driving license must be presented to the automobile rental agency.
Italian road regulations
Driving in Italy is a dreamlike, free experience that allows you to travel from one place to another. The Italian government is pleased to help tourists navigate Italy and warmly welcomes them. The Highway Code is not an exception, though. Italian driving regulations are simpler to adhere to in nations where driving is done on the right, including those in the European Union. It might be challenging for those unfamiliar with left-hand drive countries at first, but it gets easier after a few trips.
Key guidelines
You must remember that some driving regulations must be obeyed when driving abroad. Therefore, please follow the fundamental rules that are in effect in Italy. Breaking them will result in fines.
Drunken driving
Italy is well-known for its Neapolitan pizza and pasta meals and nationwide wine tastings. Although it is a wine-producing nation, driving while intoxicated is not permitted. Italy has a far lower alcohol limit than most European nations—just 0.5 milligrammes per millilitre. Drivers working as professionals or with less than three years of experience cannot drive while intoxicated.
The best action is to refrain from consuming alcohol while driving if you don't want to get into problems. The police will do a sobriety test if you are in an accident. It's advisable to have someone else drive or use a cab service if you really must have a glass of wine. Alcohol can impact your perceptions and response time, making it more challenging to operate a vehicle safely. The easiest way to prevent these risks is never to drive while intoxicated.
Penalties for drunk driving in Italy
Depending on the damage your careless driving causes, breaking the drunk driving laws in Italy might land you in significant legal trouble. Fines, the seizure of a vehicle, and, worst of all, incarceration are all possible penalties. In addition, driving while intoxicated lengthens the journey and puts other people in danger of harm or even death. The following are the consequences of drinking and driving:
1.5 g/l and higher: penalties ranging from €1,500 to €6,000 and 6- to 12-month terms of imprisonment.
164 to 663 euros and 5 fewer points on a driver's licence for drivers under 21 for 0 to 0.5 g/l.
0.5-0.8 g/l carries penalties of €531-2,125 and a 3-6 month suspension of your driver's licence.
Parking
Particularly in urban areas and ancient cities, parking in Italy may be particularly challenging. The authorized parking spaces, often underground, fill up rapidly in the city centre. Parking on the sidewalk or the curb is the only alternative, so parking is free in painted white places.
You must pay for parking and display the ticket outside your vehicle if it is painted blue. Please be aware that time restrictions exist on how long you may park in metered spaces.
Legislation governing the use of seatbelts
Both drivers and passengers travelling by car in Italy are required to buckle up at all times, whether seated in the front or the rear. To lower the number of road deaths, seat belt use was implemented as a safety precaution.
Speed restriction in Italy
Authorities have placed speed cameras on almost every route nationwide to enforce speed limits properly. A speed camera may photograph your automobile, record your speed, and determine if you follow Italy's posted speed restrictions. There is no escape from Italy's speed cameras, which can be seen when driving on motorways and along the side of the road.
The speed restrictions are as follows:
City area:
50km/h
Highway:
130 km/h or 110 km/h in rainy weather
Minor roads outside metropolitan areas:
110 km/h or 100 km/h in rainy weather
Local streets:
90 km/h or 80 km/h in rainy weather
Travel direction
To reduce traffic congestion, roundabouts are used at road junctions. Roundabouts are where most Italian highways end; therefore, you must know the regulations when you're at one. It's essential to understand which lane to use while entering a roundabout. You should drive on the right in Italy and yield to vehicles on the left. Also, signal your destination before leaving the roundabout to alert other motorists.
Age Limit for Driving in Italy
The minimum driving age in Italy varies depending on the vehicle type. The legal driving age in Italy is 18, as in other nations; however, be aware that most car rental companies do not hire cars for anyone under 21. But in Italy, you must be at least 16 years old to operate a motorcycle up to 125 cc and at least 14 years old to use a moped up to 50 cc.
Rules for overtaking
In Italy, overtaking must be done to the left. Therefore, avoid overtaking at junctions, bends, hilltops, railroad crossings, and places with limited sight. In Italy, driving also involves sharing the road with trams. You can pass the tram on the right if there is room. Pass trams carrying passengers at a safe distance. Be sure you can see where you're going before passing and that no other car is coming up behind you. Please turn on your turn signal to alert other drivers that you are about to pass them. Go back into the right lane after passing, allowing plenty of space for the vehicle in front of you.
Driving while a visitor
With a current driver's licence and IDP, visitors can easily drive in Italy. As an international driving license Italy permits them to drive on Italian roads. You can go to Italy in your vehicle if you satisfy the prerequisites

A man has gone on a stabbing spree at the major Gare de Lyon railway station in Paris, injuring three people before being arrested by police.
Authorities did not offer any immediate information on the possible motive for the attack, which took place at about 8am (07:00 GMT) on Saturday, as the French capital prepares to host the Summer Olympics in less than six months.

One person suffered serious injuries to the abdomen, while two others were lightly wounded in the attack.
Police said the suspect, a Malian national, presented officers with an Italian driving licence, which gave his date of birth as January 1, 1992.
He was overpowered by passersby before railway police arrived on the scene, the police said.
“A thank you to those who overpowered the man who carried out this unbearable act,” said Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin on X.
The Paris prosecutor’s office launched an inquiry into the attack, while the national “anti-terrorist” prosecutor said it was observing proceedings at this stage.
Gare de Lyon is France’s biggest mainline hub, with more than 100 million passengers going through it annually.
Rail operator SNCF said the area between halls one and three was temporarily inaccessible, adding that services to the Paris region were delayed due to “an act of criminal intent”.
The Olympic Games are to open with a massive open-air ceremony along the Seine River on July 26, a major security challenge in the city that has been repeatedly hit by attacks, most notably in 2015.
Most recently, a man targeted passersby near the Eiffel Tower in December, killing a German tourist with a knife and injuring two others.

Much to my dismay, but not surprise, Wales went out of the World Cup last weekend, being beaten by Argentina 29-17. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. It was a slight surprise to me that Ireland also lost out to New Zealand and that France lost to South Africa, though not that England beat Fiji. We had a couple of the neighbours over for the France v South Africa game, so there was a bit of tutoring going on, but not too much and there was beer and snacks, so pretty decent. And the game - like the other three quarter-finals - was really good, so the neighbours were entertained, I think.
Also on the rugby front, The Boy won his tournament down in Oklahoma City last weekend so he's once again in a good mood, though was a little stressed earlier this week sorting out the first few things that were needed before (and after) his car got delivered to him on Wednesday. He still has to sort out getting his driving licence transferred to Virginia and get his car's registration plates, next week hopefully. So now our car is officially ours, not his. Possibly!
There has been some development on the medical front, but for a change it's not me! For that reason I am not at liberty to divulge who or what, but it's only the early stages after a couple of appointments with specialists - there will be further progress to not relate, probably in a couple of months or so.
And now I'm on a marathon rugby watching afternoon, first Gloucester away at Newcastle (they won 14-18 in atrocious conditions) and now New Zealand v Argentina RWC semi-final.
