if i designed an ace attorney tarot deck here’s what i would do for the art

0 the fool: the obvious choice would be to put franziska on it but i have other plans for her, so id go with larry

1 the magician: trucy. because fucking obviously.

2 the high priestess: maya

3 the empress: franziska. i know she doesn’t really fit the card’s meaning, but for some reason it stuck out to me.

4 the emperor: miles. he fits the card’s meaning, plus it matches with fran

5 the hierophant: dick. goodness, weakness, over kindness, alliance… it’s him ur honour

6 the lovers: wrightworth. bc wrightworth

7 the chariot: phoenix’s bike

8 justice: apollo because fucking obviously

9 the hermit: manfred von karma. treason, corruption, etc.

10 wheel of fortune: i can’t think of something that’s really wheel shaped, but the magatama works with the cards meaning

11 strength: klavier. no deep card explanation he matches with apollo

12 the hanged man: i was gonna do hobo phoenix but then i realised simon fit better with the theme of self sacrifice

13 death: i have had death mean positive things far more than negative, so i feel like mia should go here. she fits with the good vibes i get with this card and the whole. being dead thing.

14 temperance: nahyuta no explanation needed

15 the devil: kristoph because fucking obviously

16 the tower: the tower is a tricky one, as there aren’t many towers in aa that i can think of. the closest thing i can think of is the prosecutors building, but we never see the outside

17 the star: feenie. upright it means hope and bright prospects, reversed it means loss and abandonment. it feels fitting

18 the moon: hobo phoenix. enemies, danger, betrayal, deception. hopefully you see what i see here

19 the sun: regular phoenix to complete the trio and bc it represents marriage and yk im a sucker for some good wrightworth

20 judgement: the judge because fucking obviously

21 the world: this one was a hard one but i eventually decided on the courthouse interior

for the minor arcana, i’m thinking notable scenes and characters from across the series, especially ema kay and athena bc they didn’t make it in to the major arcana

So my ship of choice in this universe is Fran/Ema, but they end up having an on-off relationship through the seven year gap - they date from JFA era, when Fran is 18 and Ema is 17, for about 4 years. The last of those is long-distance while Ema is studying forensics abroad - because I feel like Japanifornia has 0 good forensics programs because it’s a garbage pit - and between distance, Ema dedicating herself to studying, and things imploding for Fran at the Prosecutor’s Office - UR-1 would be somewhere around here and once Simon and Athena are cleared but the Phantom has escaped, Fran dedicates every scrap of spare time she has to helping Simon try to track him down - it doesn’t work out for them. Ema comes home for a visit when Lana is released from prison and it’s during that time that she and Fran have a talk where they agree to end their relationship.

They stay friends, stay in touch, hang out whenever Ema comes home to visit, Fran is the shoulder to cry on when Ema fails her exam, and eventually Ema comes home for good, after that garbage with Phoenix and Kristoph comes to a head in April.

But then they’re both, like, not good at emotions and feelings and conversations thereof, they’re both closed off and stubborn on a good day, and so even now that Ema is back for good they just fuckig don’t have a conversation about where they’re going from here, whether to date again, they establish absolutely nothing, driving everyone else in the family/friend group crazy.

The first person to go “fuck this I’m doing something about this” is actually Klavier. He knows, by way of some complex series of events, that Ema has a heart next to Fran’s name in her phone contact list, which doesn’t really merit a huge notice until he also witnesses Fran and Ema interacting and how brutally awkward it is.

“What is it between you two anyway?” Klavier asks Franziska one day.

“None of your business, fool,” says Franziska, who might be friends with Klavier now but she hates discussing her personal life with anyone, up to and including her own brother.

“They dated for a while and ended it with everything still unresolved,” says Simon, who knows shit like this for everyone in the office but only cares about it to use for good and not evil for like four people.

“Who told you that?” asks Franziska.

“Assuming I needed anyone to tell me,” says Simon.

(Athena overheard a phone conversation between Franziska and Ema and she was just immediately like “there’s a lot of unresolved love and sadness between Ms von Karma and the other woman she’s talking to” and Simon filed that away and combined it with other pieces of information he knows and put it all together. Also, knowing Aura, he can spot a lesbian trainwreck when he sees it.)

So Klavier kind of wants to do something about this, as a favor to both Franziska and literally everyone else because this is getting painful for them all, it’s a bit of an obstacle to having a functioning Prosecutors Office friend group, and I honestly believe Klavier’s probably a hopeless romantic at heart, and also his own life, not to mention his love life, is a fucking mess so he’s gonna go meddle in someone else’s.

Phoenix learns of this via Trucy, when Klavier asks her about Ema and Fran, and immediately signs on. Part of it is simply that he loves Franziska and wants to help her out with this, and Ema is his friend as well, and the other part of it is that trying to facilitate an honest conversation about feelings between Fran and Ema is an excellent way for Phoenix to avoid having an honest conversation about feelings with Miles.

Trucy joins the team because she thinks Aunt Fran and Ema are cute together, and rounding out the main conspirators is Pearl, the hopeless romantic.

Miles comes into his office one day and finds Phoenix sprawled on the couch, Klavier on the floor, Pearl on the back of the couch, and Trucy with a poster board and an easel. “What is going on?” Miles asks. “Why is there a prosecutor here - why is Prosecutor Gavin here?”

“I’m here to hook your sister back up with her ex-girlfriend,” Klavier says.

Trucy at the easel gestures to the heading she has put down on the page, reading “the 17 point plan to get Ema and Fran back together or at least have them talk about their feelings even if at the end they decide maybe to not get back together”.

“I’m going home,” Miles says.

The rest of the family/friend group fractures into the following camps:

Team Shippers On Deck: Athena, Maya, Ray, Larry, Kay
