congratulations to @oneknightstand-if for being the thing to finally motivate me into posting oc things again after (checks notes) 2 years. had SO much fun with this story, i can't even recommend it enough. i love how in-depth and quirky the character creation is (purple eyes and red riding hood cape? say no more.)
Siobhan Woolf / "Sidhé Benoni" (because what could possibly go wrong with making your fake undercover pseudonym literally the Celtic word for your deepest secret?)
25 | Female (she/her) | Bisexual | Changeling
Appearance: Short and petite (5'3"), short wavy pink hair, violet eyes, wears a red riding hood everywhere and then acts shocked when people gawk at her for dressing like a freak. She has a pair of wings tattooed on her back, and a tattoo of foxgloves on her arm (that i did not even attempt to draw because i'm a goddamn hack).
Occupation: Fairy Princess Wildlife Biologist
Background: Abusive Childhood
Fear: Being the center of attention (no the cape does not help in the slightest)
Vice: Greed
Addiction: Prescription Drugs
She is *mute and has a chronic resting bitch face that makes her seem unapproachable at first glance, but in reality Siobhan is nothing but sweet and fully of whimsy. She has a crush on her best friend that she doesn't even try keeping a secret and her favorite past-time involves relentlessly teasing him and making his life a living hell. She's obsessed with Arthurian lore and werewolves (even though the game is determined to block me from that parameter *dies*) and felt very validated by the revelation of the hellhound because it still counts damn it.
*I like the idea of her muteness actually being a curse caused by her mom inadvertently cursing her into silence during one of her verbal rants. ("Just be quiet forever!") Something something fae magic forcing her into obedience a la Ella Enchanted idk. It doesn't make sense and isn't at all accurate to the traditional fae mythos but dammit I'm sticking with it until the game inevitably contradicts the idea.

Yearly Roundup Best Books of 2023
1. THE SECRET HISTORY
The hype surrounding this book is absolutely justified. I read it with book club, and we all agreed that it temporarily rewrote our brain chemistry, and turned us into pretentious Greek students. If I'd read this as a teenager, I truly believe I would have grown up a very different person. It's the most beautiful story I've ever read.
2. HEROES OF OLYMPUS
I was (optimistically) hoping to get through all of the PJO-adjacent series this year, but I came to a screeching halt when I got to the Kane Chronicles. But first, I read Heroes of Olympus, and they were just as good as the original series! The new demigods were just as likeable, and Percy was somehow even more relatable!
3. A LITTLE LIFE
Here's another that lived up to the hype. I sobbed most of the way through this book, but a lot of it was also so joyful, despite being unbelievable devastating. I stormed through this book, and it left me broken for days, weeks after. I really want to read it again, in more depth, but I'm not ready yet.
4. THE TAROT SEQUENCE
I shouldn't have liked this series as much as I did - it was kind of trashy, and not my normal type of book at all! But oh my God, the characters were so captivating! I can't wait for the rest of the series to come out, the story is just gripping! I'm also including the spin-off book in this, because it was probably my favourite of the series!
5. THE WICKER KING
This is the most unusual book I've read this year. It's so visually interesting, it's more a piece of art than a novel. At first, I wasn't sure if I was just impressed by the formatting, or if I actually liked the plot. But months later, I'm still impressed! I can't recommend this book enough, and I wish I could find more like it.
Best Sequels
The Stolen Heir
This is the follow up to the Folk of the Air series, the first book in a new duology. I didn't think it'd live up to the main series, because Jude and Cardan were so iconic. But actually, Wren and Oak are every bit as interesting, and the plot is fantastic! I can't wait for the second book to come out in March!
Hell Bent
This is the follow up to Ninth House, and it was totally worth the wait. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed Ninth House until I re-read it, and the sequel didn't disappoint, it was just as interesting! It didn't go in exactly the direction I thought it would, but it was all the better for it!
Other five star books I've read this year include: Lockwood & co, Elysium, The Silent Companions, Goth, Clytemnestra, Mythos, and The Good Son.
The worst books I've read this year are: The Foxglove King, This is How you Lose the Time War, Bunny, The Maidens, and Murder Most Festive
Interestingly, I only gave the first book in the "Captive Prince" trilogy two stars, but I gave the third book a whopping five stars!

The Foxglove King Chapter 1 Tarot Card: 3 of Cups Deck: Wild Unknown by Kim Krans
First off, I want to point out the introduction to our main character, Lore. One of my favorite sentences to introduce a character: "Lore could work with that."
Five simple words that say so much about her--other than having an awesome name. She is cunning. She is determined. She is confident in her skills--a battle of minds or battle of wills. Those five words had me instantly drawn into this character, and I love a protagonist that I can stand behind.
Ok, onto our theme--the 3 of Cups. The 3 of Cups in any deck usually represents a gathering of some kind. A celebration. A party. Just enjoying time with friends. The feeling of community.
But this particular image, with the birds on the wire watching the sunset, gives me a bittersweet feeling; like a group of friends watching the sunset knowing they're all about the graduate high school and go to different colleges. You know? There's something pensive and a little morose about it, which I feel is fitting considering that Lore hints several times that she will have to leave soon and she will miss Michal and even his sister, Elle.
The grouping of three birds is interesting too because you have Lore, Michal and Elle. Also Lore, Mari, and Val. And then later (I can spoil a little because I have read half the book! Lore, Gabe, and Bastian.)
She has deep ties to the people in each group, and finds comfort in them, but also knows their connection is fleeting and she will have to say goodbye to them at some point.
The theme of a party found in the 3 of Cups also relates to the upcoming Consecration. The cups remind me of the poison running around town, both in the streets and in wealthy circles (as we will discover.) I do have a personal connection to this chapter--I love the description of the row house. My closest friends in middle and high school were a group of sisters (Three again!) who grew up in the projects. Funnily, their apartment was also two stories with rickety stairs and rattling windows. It was dingy but so comforting; our little haven against the world. Hannah did a good job embodying that juxtaposition--dingy and kind of shitty but also comforting and cathartic. Otherwise I love all the little hints at events to come and the wonderfully rich mythos of this book! Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed!

30 Day Dragon Share | Day 1: Light Dragons
I do like my browns and reds, don’t I? In any case, under the cut is a short piece of info about each dragon!
Beryl - My oldest dragon probably, she was not long after my progens, and was a freebie, but I love her to death. She’s been gened a few times now, but she’s the reason I toss a few free dragons to newbies now and then!
Cairn - Her lore’s been basically the same, a beauty and the beast love story with Foxglove, but her appearance has changed a few times! Originally a purple-range of the same name, I decided I wanted a dragon that would fit better with Foxglove and their daughter. She also has an accent that took ages to find, but it was worth it!
Niamh - One of my oldest dragons, she got her accent and hasn’t changed much from her original concept of a blind taverness with a sharp tongue but a warm sense of humor.
Cherrywine - One of the babies of my dream dragon, he was too pretty to let go! Plus, another “ages to find” accent that is really pretty on him. Sure, I have another that looks good, but this is what I originally planned to give him, catch me swapping out the accents now and then though! His name’s from that Hozier song.
Brennan - A dragon I’m fond of because I made a friend and got cool art for a group lore project for zombie dragons based on the accent! Well, not gory zombies, but nonetheless--I wish the project had took off a little, so I could’ve made some fun friends through it, but oh well!
Mortimer - I always wanted an interesting conceptual dragon for death, and here he is. Is he a harried office worker like myself? You betcha. Is he also a weird amalgam of mythos that results in his fashion being fantastical? Definitely!
