Weird pants (small fall breeches mock-up) update ft. my cat! They are now shaped like a bifurcated leg garment!
The top of the fall looks odd because I’m partway through attaching the top facing. The facing itself is sewn on, but I haven’t added the fall lining that anchors to it and holds it down.
After I finish the fall I need to figure out how and when to alter the leg shape to fit— I’m fairly lost on the technique there and how to reconcile those alterations with the inevitable leg shortening that I need to do for the actual breeches. At the moment the legs are quite baggy and the pattern instructs me to take them in to fit. Additionally, while this cut is supposed to be knee breeches, the ends of these hit at about mid calf on me. I do know how to shorten the pattern pieces without throwing the leg shaping of the original pattern off. Since I won’t know how much length needs to be taken out until these are done, I intend to do that part in between this mockup and the final product. However, I’m concerned that the lower section of my fitted leg seams won’t fit properly once the leg itself is shortened. Moreover, I don’t know how the fashion fabric will actually behave on my body. As a result, I’m thinking that adjusting the fit of the legs will have to wait until I put together the fashion fabric, non-mockup version.
Likewise, I’m really hoping that the waist fits. In theory it should: I measured myself at the appropriate points and picked the closest size like I’m supposed to. A 32 5/16 inch waist corresponds to a size 32 (with the back gusset providing inbuilt potential for a bit of expansion). Unfortunately, based on how the current mockup fit, it seems like that size might come out too large. Alternatively I may be misjudging how closely the seat will be gathered, or how much room my shirt will take up. I won’t actually know for sure until I’ve made and attached the waistband.
There are some problems with the shape of the fall and the pockets that are inherent to the pattern I’m using. At the moment, I’m more or less resigned to having a fall that doesn’t sit quite right. I wasn’t aware of them until after I had all my fabric cut and had started putting this mockup together. I honestly don’t know if I would have picked another pattern anyway, as the one that other sewists recommend as having a better cut fall only goes down to a size 34. That’s a no go for someone who wears pants with a 30 to 32 inch waist, and I’m not comfortable enough modifying patterns to size them down. Eventually, I’d like to correct the cut of this pattern for myself, but it’ll have to wait for when I have a little more experience.

While I try to get some photos of another figure, I thought I'd share some pics of this felted vixen I've had for quite a few months now (which I actually made while watching Disney's The Fox and the Hound)! Even though I'm sure my style has changed since I made it, and I see where I can improve now, I still think it came out quite nicely!
Also, I'm thinking of trying to start taking commissions for needle felting, at least before the summer ends. While I definitely want to do some for slugcats (and most likely iterators too), would anyone be interested in other animals or characters?

will post better pictures once both gloves are all finished up- but these are looking really nice! the pattern is the Outfoxed Mitts by Erica Heusser on Ravelry. they fit a but snug on me, but they’re going to my bestie with slightly smaller hands than me :o)
had to add a third color bc i was short on the main 2. i think the gold band looks really nice! i also purposefully omitted a few plain stockinette rows to make them a little shorter (without interrupting that colorwork)
(details for yarn on the project’s page on my ravelry)

Worlds Beyond Yarn - The Fox
375 yards, sport weight, 2 ply wool
I wanted to do something straightforward for the fox. Nothing fancy - just a wool 2 ply. He's a slightly little guy, but not too thin or fussy. Would make a good hat or mittens.
But.
Here's the thing, he only seems straightforward. If you know where to look, he can have depth. You've just got to ask the right questions.
Fractal spinning is technically not a spinning technique, or a plying technique. It's color management. Take some yarn that's got some gradiations, split it in half (A and B) lengthwise. Then split one of those halves into quarters (B1, B2, B3, B4). Your first half (A) will be one of your strands. Your split half will be another one of your strands, so you have one half of your yarn going through the color variegations slowly, the other half quickly. It creates almost a subtle stripe, prevents long periods of the same color, and looks more random than actual randomness.
So, it's still a simple 2-ply, it just looks a little better. Didn't lie about that.
Next up is Suvi, but really - I'm taking a short break to work on some mending and sewing.

"What color fox plush do you want for Christmas?" I ask my brother.
"This one." He shows me a photo of a cross fox dubbed "Mat" taken (and enhanced) by the photographer Sam Gaby (Keen.Feed on Insta).
"That one! It's beautiful but real foxes aren't that saturated. Do you still want the vibrant oranges?"
"Yes."
He hasn't seen the finished fox, and won't until Christmas. I think he'll like it.
Made with faux fur fabrics (not real fur) and touched up with acrylic paint. He's life-size (on the large side) with measurements taken from fox population studies. I have process pics and a video of his process on my blog.

A recent collaborative project with Tacos (if they had a Tumblr I would tag them I swear) that we created as a gift for our friend @tired-twink (see!)
I'm super happy with how it looks completely finished. I did the cross stitch using This pattern on 18ct Aida cloth with 2 strand DMC floss.
Once I had it stitched up I did a border around it to attach it to the main fabric of the bag. I think the frayed edge of the aida really suits this project. I do still want to find more ways to incorporate my work into more bags and such without worrying about the stitching being warped when I remove the waste fabric.

Corrie Guard: Fox & Patches
@megneato did two more AMAZING commissions for me (the first was Ma Dong-Seok as Paz Vizsla, he’s beautiful, go look at him), which was to help get my headcanon down for what Fox looks like, and a design for my Corrie Medic OC, Patches! (I belatedly realized that is a common medic OC name. I am. Not sorry. ...or original.)
CC 1010: FOX
tired
like, so fucking tired
Constantly Vibrating Ball of Rage
hair gone white from stress and torture via Evil Sith Shenanigans
lightning scars around his neck, continue below armor on the right side of his torso
no tattoos so that he could pass as some of the other clones (this works up until the scarring and the trauma hair)
CT 9113: PATCHES
MASSIVE baby bro/vod’ika vibes, is from one of the more recent batches
very gentle and sweet and smiley
name comes from his patchwork scars, which were the result of being yeeted through a pane of glass (exact scenario as of yet undecided)
does actually have a kind bedside manner, but do not be fooled: he will also use the big sad eyes RUTHLESSLY
‘i’m not mad, just disappointed’ except instead of disappointed dad it’s your little brother who looks up to you and thinks the world of you and now you let him DOWN
that said, if he’s visibly angry, you should probably run.

I am also quite apprehensive about trying to sew something as complex as fall front breeches at my current skill level. In some ways I think a waistcoat would be a better next step, since they seem simpler from a structural standpoint.
However, I’ve read that doing the breeches before the waistcoat is better for producing a functional ensemble— getting a good length for the waistcoat is easier when you already know where the waistband of the breeches will fall. Having struggled to pair vests and pants with varying lengths and rises in my own wardrobe, I’m inclined to follow that advice.
Mostly, I think I need to get over my fear of making bad clothes. Yes, it will be frustrating if I sink materials costs and hours of work into a garment that turns out to be ill-fitting or even unwearable. No, making something bad isn’t a condemnation of my skills forever. Making bad clothes is a necessary step towards making good clothes. Even if I can’t reuse the materials from a failed garment, they aren’t wasted because I learned through the experience.

Whoa, what's that amongst the thicket?
It's a fox! Though it looks quite different from most foxes I've seen. But I'd never miss that long, bushy tail!
Oh, I think she's noticed me! Perhaps should be a bit more careful before she runs away!
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Here's a new needle felted critter I finished recently, whom I've personally decided to call Umbra! After finishing the collie, I knew I had to try making a fluffy fox! Since I was working on this in October, I figured I'd also do a cross color morph rather than the standard red fox so it could match the spirit of Halloween with its black and orange color, although it did take me 2 tries to get the face right with how dark it is. Unfortunately I didn't manage to post it before the month ended, but that doesn't mean I won't still share it now!
Now that I'm more confident with making stylized faces, I also tried to experiment a bit more with the face itself, trying to create a slightly different expression with the eyes and eyebrows. I later decided to pose it a little to give it even more personality.
Going forward, I'm hoping to make some more long-furred creatures, likely winter-themed ones for the upcoming winter holiday season. I've also got some orange shades of wool on the way, so hopefully I'll be able to make more brightly-colored red foxes soon. But for now, I hope you like this shady, yet soft little fox!

“I love his Royal Highness, Prince Henry George Edward James Hanover-Stuart Fox. I hope one day we’ll have the opportunity to be public about our relationship on our own terms”
I wanted to celebrate this day with one of my favourite queer books. Happy and combative Pride Day 🏳️🌈🏳⚧
(I know I've already crocheted Alex and Henry, but it felt right to honor the book as well as the movie with this mini amigurumis inspired by the book cover illustration)
