In Old Testament Judaism, they refer to the patriarchs, of which there are three: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. What's another word for patriarch? Forefather. So Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are our forefathers. There are only three. Why? The Holy Trinity. The fourth father is Yeshua/Jesus, thus filling out the "fourfathers" or patriarchs.
