Okay, okay: Is anybody on #FortShafter missing this precious boy??? Because he has...um...unapologetically taken over our house? If you’re a fan of the quirky, tragicomical, just-returned-from-a-long-vacation-and-you’ll-never-guess-what-awaited-me!!! genre of narrative, I have a story for you. Within hours of arriving back at our house from the airport yesterday, this exceedingly friendly male orange tabby darted into our garage and then into our living room and now...refuses to leave?! He was initially quite hungry and thirsty and seems to be a bit cross-eyed and farsighted. That aside, he is very clean, very domestic, almost absurdly affectionate, and a bit of a diva, to be frank. He has white mittens and a white tummy with orange freckles and is basically so cute that it causes me genuine anguish, okay? He’s definitely not one of our feral, semi-feral, or indoor/outdoor locals who turn up in the garden from time to time (a la Haku). And after texting photos to our fellow feline-friendly neighbors down the street, we have confirmed that he has not been seen outdoors in this area before by any of us animal-loving types. So we gave him some refreshments here yesterday afternoon and he subsequently refused to be coaxed back outside, appearing perfectly content to “help” us unpack and Netflix instead. He then dedicated himself to luxuriously napping on every horizontal surface available (though, to be fair, I was #same). After several hours of this, Will ran out to Longs and bought some litter and a box and that’s it, that’s the story of how I woke up this morning in a jet-lagged stupor to take this photo of a strange cat in my bed the day after I’d traversed the Pacific Ocean of all bloody things. So is he, like, actually anybody’s???!? Or is this my life now? Did a yōkai follow me home? Is this all because I went to that one Shinto shrine last week and wished for “a new and better way to cope with my challenges?” Do you ever really have to do your enormous pile of vacation laundry if there’s some kind of cat god sleeping on it? 🤷‍♀️🙀 #whoisthisnekochan2k17 #FortShafterlostandfound #Shintoisthetruth (at Fort Shafter)
