Look what arrived in the mail! This #book and I cannot wait to read it! This book is part of a collection of books not just for the #americanrevolutionarywar but of the history of the #battleofgrotonheights @fortgriswold the latest edition to the collection from what I can see is more of a #genealogical treasure chest on the families involved in the battle include a man named Capt. Samuel Allyn who I not only try to visit his grave, but try to help maintain his grave and others within the small cemetery. It happened on this day 238 years ago the Battle of Groton Heights. September 6th,1781. I would have never truly learned about the Battle or become a part of a group that helps educate and preserve Fort Griswold Battlefield if it wasn’t for finding a little cemetery that looked like it needed love. Captain Samuel Allyn was one of the 88 men who died defending the Fort. He has become part of my family even though I have no ancestry with him. The Groton Public Library had a Local History and Genealogy Book Sale. For $9 I got these two lovely books. First book is the original print of a book I own “Battle of Groton Heights”. I own the 1999 reprint. To hold this book in my hands made me giddy.
