Modi ji should stop dividing the country, says former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh
On Wednesday, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh claimed that if voted to power, the Congress Party has no plans to ban Bajrang Dal. However, he added that goons and rioters will not be spared at any cost.
Attending a press conference in Bhopal, Singh said, “Bajrang Dal is a group of goons and anti-social elements. This country belongs to all, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, and Christian, this is a country for everyone. So Modi ji (PM Narendra Modi) and Shivraj ji (MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan) stop dividing the country. Establish peace which will lead to development.”
Answering a question about Congress coming to power and taking action against Bajrang Dal, the Rajya Sabha member said, “We will not ban. There may be some good people in Bajrang Dal. But, those who are goons and involved in rioting will not be spared.”
Earlier, MP Congress Committee President Kamal Nath also gave a statement about the controversial chief priest of Bageshwar Dham, Dhirender Shastri for a Hindutva Rashtra. He had said, “Today if 82 percent are Hindus in our country, then what nation is this?”
Now that the press questioned Nath's comments, Singh came into his defense saying that his comments were misinterpreted.
A reaction came from CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “Neither Digvijaya Singh nor Kamal Nath care for Hindutva, country, and society. To reap the crop of votes they keep speaking what they feel like.”
BJP party is preparing for the 2024 Assembly election in full gear. The political scenes are active with parties playing their pitch.

Madhya Pradesh assembly bypolls: Why Jyotiraditya Scindia’s stake is the highest
NEW DELHI: While the by-elections which were held in 28 assembly constituencies of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday are significant for both the ruling BJP and principal opposition party the Congress, they are most crucial for former Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Among all the top MP leaders who are keenly involved in the bypolls – such as chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, his predecessor Kamal Nath, former CM Digvijay Singh and Scindia – the stakes are the highest for the last. In the 2018 assembly elections, while the BJP had won 109 of the 230 seats, the Congress was victorious on 114 seats and it was just two short of the majority mark of 116. However, Kamal Nath formed the government with the support of the BSP. After Scindia rebelled against the Congress leadership in March this year, 22 party MLAs owing allegiance to him resigned leading to the downfall of the Kamal Nath government. Three more MLAs close to the former Guna MP resigned subsequently while three sitting BJP MLAs died, thus necessitating by-elections on 28 seats. One more seat has fallen vacant after a Congress MLA crossed over to the BJP last month. By-election to this seat might be held later. Hence, while 29 out of 230 seats are lying vacant, by-elections are being held on 28 of them. Out of the 28 seats which are going to bypolls, the 25 MLAs who resigned their seats are considered to be close to Scindia. Out of these 25 seats, 16 are located in the Gwalior-Chambal region, where Scindia wields influence on the voters. Moreover, 12 of these 25 MLAs are ministers in the present Shivraj Singh Chouhan government. Hence, prestige is more at stake for these 11 and also personally for Scindia. Of the total 28 seats going to polls, the BJP – which has 107 MLAs – needs to win nine to get a majority. On the other hand, with 88 MLAs, the Congress will have to win all 28 to return to power. As situations exist at present, odds are against the Congress. Even though it is easier for the BJP to retain power, prestige is at stake for Scindia. A sizeable number of the 25 MLAs, particularly the 12 ministers, who had resigned after he rebelled must win. If most of the 25 MLAs win, it would mean the voters have supported Scindia in his rebellion and pulling down the Kamal Nath government. If the majority of these rebel MLAs lose, it would be a major embarrassment for Scindia. It would then mean that the voters have not forgiven and forgotten the rebellion and changing of parties. It would be a personal mandate against Scindia. It would also mean that the voters are more loyal to the Congress than Scindia. In that case, it would be a pleasant development for Digvijaya Singh who also enjoys some influence in the Gwalior-Chambal region. His political stature may grow at Scindia’s expense which would prove problematic for Scindia in future elections. Kamal Nath, on the other hand, would have the last laugh. However, if the MLAs supported by Scindia win, some of the credit would also go to Chouhan as the ruling party and the incumbent CM usually have an edge in the bypolls. But an impressive performance by 25 candidates would help increase Scindia’s stature in the BJP. He may get a significant portfolio in the next reshuffle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s council of ministers. Not just this, Scindia may become BJP’s no. 2 leader in MP and his name might be in the reckoning for the state chief minister’s post.

Kamal Nath swept away by force of MP's new political equations

Kamal Nath swept away by force of MP's new political equations
BHOPAL: In four decades, political life has come full circle for Congress veteran Kamal Nath who could hold on to the chief ministerial chair in Madhya Pradesh for just over l5 months.
Chants of ‘Jai Jai Kamal Nath’ had filled the air as Nath reached Bhopal in December 2018 with the mandate from his party leadership to be anointed to the top post in the state.
Described by the late Indira Gandhi as her “third son” for helping her take on the post-emergency Morarji Desai-led regime in 1979, Nath occupied the CM’s post with the support of the former prime minister’s grandson Rahul Gandhi after the Congress returned to power in the state after a 15-year-gap.
Supporters of Nath, 72, had credited him for wresting this important central Indian state from BJP‘s Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who from 2003 to 2018 became the longest-serving chief minister of Madhya Pradesh.
Nath’s former colleague Jyotiraditya Scindia, 49, joined the BJP earlier this month, beginning the countdown for the fall of the Congress government in the state.
When Scindia said that he will hit the streets if promises made in the poll manifesto are not fulfilled, Nath had dared him to do so, prompting the former royal to pull off a coup of sorts which culminated in the fall of the Nath-led regime.
Congress observers say Nath was made the chief minister keeping in mind likely political maneuvering ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls but that premise proved hollow as the Congress was virtually wiped out in those polls, losing 28 out of 29 seats in the state, including that of Scindia, to the BJP.
Nath’s supporters say that as the then state Congreess chief, he made efforts before the 2018 elections to bring together senior party leaders, former chief minister Digvijay Singh, Scindia and Suresh Pachouri, well aware that groupism may have had a role in keeping the party out of power for 15 years.
Under Nath’s leadership, the state Congress focused its campaign on “unfulfilled” promises of Chouhan, whom the party dubbed as “ghoshnaveer” (a man of hollow promises).
Over a year later, Scindia used the same ‘unfulfilled promises’ bogey to topple the Congress government in the state by engineering resignations of 22 MLAs.
Born in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh to businessman father Mahendra Nath and mother Leela, Nath is an alumnus of the prestigious Doon School in Uttarakhand. He graduated from St Xavier’s college, Kolkata, before plunging into politics. The former Union minister has also been a Member of Parliament nine times since 1980.

Not a candidate for chief minister's post in Madhya Pradesh: Digvijay Singh
Bhopal: Congress leader Digvijay Singh said on Tuesday that he was not a candidate for the chief minister’s post in Madhya Pradesh, where Assembly elections are due by the end of this year.
The assertion by the 71-year-old former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, came in the wake of a campaign on Twitter.
The campaign, “Digvijay4CM”, demanding to project Singh as the Congress’ chief ministerial candidate was launched late Monday evening. It is, however, not clear who launched the campaign.
Responding to the campaign, Singh tweeted, “Whoever has started Digvijay4CM is not my well wisher. I have been CM MP for a decade and there is no question of my going back on my statement that I AM NOT A CM CANDIDATE. I am not someone who would say something and do something else (sic).”
Singh, who was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh for 10 years (1993-2003), had made it clear on several occasions that he was not eyeing the post if the Congress wins the upcoming Assembly elections.
The Congress, which is out of power in Madhya Pradesh since 2003, has not formally announced its chief ministerial candidate.
However, Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath and the party’s Lok Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia are widely seen as strong contenders for the top post in the state if the party is voted to power.

Cong leadership squabble must end in Madhya Pradesh
The joke in the Congress party in Madhya Pradesh is that Jyotiraditya Scindhia has got traction, Digvijay Singh has got sangathan (organisation) and Kamalnath has got the money muscle. Reasonably speaking all three elements are required to win assembly elections. Congress has not been able to retain Madhya Pradesh since 2003.
This will be the fourth assembly election where Congress will be pitched directly against Shivraj Singh Chauhan, a strong OBC leader who has been able to dodge controversies by playing the affable 'mama-ji' image in Madhya Pradesh’s politics.
Despite a fertile ground and 15 years of anti-incumbency, Congress has not been able to set its house in order.
×
For the first time, it is also not sure whether Shivraj Chauhan will be projected as the chief minister under the new dispensation as at one point of time he was a compatriot of Narendra Modi. Also, for the first time, Shivraj Singh Chauhan is under fire from people on the issue of sadak and bijali which were associated with former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijay Singh. It wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that even the BJP leadership within Madhya Pradesh is upset with Shivraj Singh Chauhan. Despite a fertile ground and 15 years of anti-incumbency, Congress has not been able to set its house in order. As of now Kamalnath and Digvijay Singh are on the same side and Jyotiraditya Scindhia on the other. Then there are leaders, such as Kantilal Bhuria, Suresh Pachouri, Rahul Singh and Arun Yadav. The assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh are a year away, and despite the massive farmer stir rocking the state, the Congress has not been able to project any leader nor succeeded in getting all of them on the same page. So, MP Congress is full of leaders bereft of unity. That's the bane. It is not the organisation but fight at the top in Madhya Pradesh which has led to its defeat from 2003 onwards.
Congress should remember that when even former CM Andhra Pradesh YSR Reddy got ample time to organise his padyatra in Andhra Pradesh, which was being run by TDP for the last 10 years, he kept it limited to a 3-months time span. Instead, Digvijay has gone for a 6-month padyatra (though he insists its non-political nature) who will neither be made PCC President nor projected as the chief ministerial candidate of the state. What is of great significance is that over the last 10 years, the proportion of votes going to third parties have reduced significantly, with the Congress and the BJP votes swelling every time. In 2007, third parties got 29.97 per cent votes. In 2013, they got 18.74 and during the Lok Sabha elections, the numbers got reduced to 9.89 per cent of votes. On the other hand, even during its worst performance in 2014, Congress retained 35 per cent votes, whereas, BJP’s vote swelled to 55 per cent.
Congress is within the striking distance of victory, its leaders remain unorganised and the party seems to be dithering in taking a call to project one person as the face of the state.
×
Unlike Gujarat, which is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s domain, Madhya Pradesh revolves more around Shivraj Singh Chauhan's gentle persona. For the first time, Congress is within the striking distance of victory but its leaders remain unorganised and the party seems to be dithering in taking a call to project one person as the face of the state.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi must call off the bluff of the vested leadership in the state and decide the candidate who would front the state.
If Congress leadership cannot pick up a ripe state like Madhya Pradesh then it should rethink whether it has the right to continue in the present avatar. Rahul Gandhi must solve the problem of plenty.

Madhya Pradesh: Ahead of polls, BJP harps on development; targets Digvijay Singh
The ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh is gearing up to fight the upcoming assembly elections on development plank and is also alleging “misrule” by the Congress when it was in power in the state for 10 years.
However, the main opposition party has pooh-poohed the development claims of the BJP and maintained “winds of change” are blowing in the state, where the saffron outfit is in power since 2003.
The BJP is specifically targeting senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh, who headed the party government from 1993 to 2003, reminding people about the days when Madhya Pradesh was regarded as a “BIMARU” (laggard) state.
The BJP has brought out a lot of written material, including two booklets, to underline its development credentials and list welfare programmes launched by the government in the last 15 years.
The two booklets are titled “Dabe Nahin Pramaan” (proof can’t be suppressed) and “15 Saal Vikas Ke, Jan-Jan Ke Vishwas Ke” (15 years of development).
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who embarked on his 73-day long ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ from Ujjain on July 14, has often targeted Singh.
Addressing a press conference at Panna on July 26, Chouhan attacked Singh for once addressing slain Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden as “Osama-ji”.
“Those who have remarked against martyred police official Mahesh Chandra Sharma (during the 2008 Batla House encounter) and termed dreaded terrorist Osama Bin Laden as Osamaji should think on their own that who is a patriot and who is a terrorist,” the CM had said.
Speaking last week in Satna district, Chouhan had sought to know if adding the honorific ‘Ji’ for a terrorist was not an “anti-national” act.
Singh, apparently responding to Chouhan’s “anti- national” jibe, had on July 26 presented himself before the police here and dared them to arrest him.
The police, however, told the 71-year-old former chief minister that he could not be arrested as there was no case registered against him.
Madhya Pradesh BJP IT Cell in-charge Shivraj Singh Dabi said the 10-year-long Digvijay government had brought “ruination” to the state, while the BJP put it on path of development.
“The people of the state have not yet forgotten the misrule of Digvijay,” Dabi said, adding Chouhan has got Madhya Pradesh rid of the “BIMARU” tag.
“The BJP government has provided ample electricity, roads and other facilities to the people in last 15 years,” said another party leader.
Newly-appointed state Congress media department vice- president Bhupendra Gupta said, however, has dismissed the BJP’s development claims.
“The BJP has not done anything worthwhile in the state in its 15 years of rule. It is facing strong anti-incumbency sentiments and winds of change are blowing across Madhya Pradesh,” he said.
Gupta said the ruling party has hardly done anything for the people and maintained that a large number of farmers have committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh under the BJP rule.
The BJP is deliberately trying to project that the Congress is a faction-ridden party, but this notion is totally wrong, he said.
“It (the BJP) wants to divert the people’s mind from core issues like unemployment. It won’t succeed in its design,” he added.
“There are no differencesin the party. Kamal Nath ji (MP Congress chief), Scindia ji (Jyotiraditya Scindia) and Digvijay ji are unitedin their fight against the BJP,” Gupta said.
In April this year, Scindia, the Lok Sabha MP from Guna, was appointed the MP Congress Election Campaign Committee Chairman.

As MP CM dubs him 'anti-national', Digvijay presents himself before police
Bhopal: Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh presented himself on Thursday before the police here and dared them to arrest him, a week after Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan termed his actions as “anti-national”.
The police, however, told the former chief minister that he could not be arrested as there was no case registered against him.
Singh, accompanied by hundreds of party workers holding banners and placards against Chouhan, marched for around one km from the party’s state office to T T Nagar police station.
Talking to PTI later, the Congress leader’s son Jaivardhan, who also accompanied him, said: “Police handed over a letter to my father that read- ‘No criminal case or
complaint of sedition against Digvijay Singh has been lodged in T T Nagar police station as per the records’.”
Talking to reporters outside the police station, Digvijay Singh said, “I have a letter from the police… Chouhan, who is holding a constitutional post, is telling ‘lies’. I am going to drag him to court for calling me a traitor.”
“I am going to seek the opinion of lawyers to file a complaint against Chouhan soon,” he added.
“I directly accuse Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his family of being guilty in (multi-crore admission and recruitment racket) Vyapam. If he has the courage, he should lodge a defamation case,” Singh said as he dared Chouhan.
Singh had announced last week that as the BJP government dubs him anti-national, he would go to the T T Nagar police station on July 26 and that the police should arrest him.
In a letter to the chief minister, Singh had said: “I have taken a oath to follow the Constitution. So I have decided to present myself before the law to protect the uuity
and integrity of India….I would present myself at T T Nagar Police Station.
“Meanwhile, submit the evidence of my being anti-national to your administration so that they can file a case and arrest me,” he had said.
Chouhan had earlier slammed Singh for ‘visiting the homes of slain terrorists’ and talking about “Hindu terrorism”.
“Many times, such acts of Digvijayji seem anti-national,” Chouhan had told a press conference at Satna on July 19.

Mahamandaleshwar Computer Baba's special prediction about Shivraj
Raisen In the state of Madhya Pradesh, Mahamandaleshwar Computer, Baba, has given his views on the politics of saints and saints on Wednesday. He was in the public meeting organized by Sanatan Dharma Samaj, India Uplift at Mahamaya Chowk, in the city, where he also announced the arrival of the open general Shivraj Sarkar to the re-majority.
Mahamandaleshwar Computer Baba had said that in the Indian constitution, the Sadhus and Mahatmas also have the right to do clean politics. It is our ultimate obligation to do the work of God as well as with our Bhajan Satsang Poojan.
That is why it is wrong for politicians to say that saints should avoid politics. Its latest example is UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. There is no goondargandi but Ramraj is running there. Apart from this, more than a dozen saints are MLAs and MPs. Similarly, Shivraj Sarkar of MP is the government of Sanatan Hindu Dharma Saffron. In this there is no denying any kind of sadhu saints.
On this said Shivraj … The Shivraj Sarkar is going to re-capture this time in MP. Because the people welfare schemes created by them for the benefit of the common people including the development done by MP and the poor, are speaking from the mouth. People are getting their benefit too. We have come out on our journey.
The sacred purpose of this visit will be to improve the global warming system by speeding up planting operations. Better protect water. So that the environment and water can be saved in the coming time. Our aim is to serve the Mother Narmada and protect the environment. In this sacred work, all too important is participation.
Fine work … After the public meeting organized by Sanatan Dharma Samaj, India Uplift at Mahamaya Chowk in the city in the morning, he also participated in the press conference held at Circuit House. On this occasion, he was present in the special meeting with Jamnasen, Rajendra Singh Rajput, comedian Ravindra Yagnik Devnagar, Manoj Yadav etc.
Here, people of Sanatan Dharm including Jamapane Jamnasen also welcomed Mahamandaleshwar Computer Baba with flowers. He said that we will start the grand campaign of planting plants in July again to save the shores of other life along the riverine rivers along the Narmada river.
Regarding the purpose of improving the deteriorating environment of this earth, we have also taken the initiative to improve it. Due to the constant waste of water, water shortage has started to be felt. For this, people responsible for urban bodies and village panchayats will also be made aware. So that plants can contribute significantly to planting and protecting water.
He further said that in the month of July, CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan is going to run Maha Abhiyan in 51 districts across the state to plant the plants. It should ensure the participation of all the people.
Speaking in a press conference .. Computer Baba In a press conference held at the Circuit House, the Minister of State, Computer Baba said that between 80 and 85 per cent of the 13,000 plants planted on the banks of Narmada river are alive. Former CM Digvijay Singh had accused the CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan of scam during the Narmada Parikrama, that he was unconscious. The allegations made by them are absolutely wrong.
We also prepare to contest elections … Responding to a question of the journalists, he said that if BJP will give us the ticket, then we are ready to contest assembly elections. But he did not tell where he was interested to contest the election. He also told that he would stop the illegal exploration of the sand to save the rivers. At the same time, about the suicide of Saint Bhaiyuji Maharaj, he said that he was not a saint but was living a household life. This is their family matter.

Not in race for any post, says Kamal Nath as he takes charge of Congress in MP
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath, who arrived here on Tuesday to formally take charge of the party in the state where Assembly polls are due this year, said he did not crave any post.
“I do not have the hunger for a post. I want that a Congress government is formed in Madhya Pradesh and its future is secured,” he told reporters, when asked whether he was in the race for the CM’s post.
“Today the question is not about a person but it’s about Madhya Pradesh’s future,” he said.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was unmindful of the plight of people, farmers and youth, said Nath, a nine-time member of the Lok Sabha from Chhindwara, when asked about Chouhan’s remark that he was not scared by Nath taking over the state Congress’s reins.
“Chouhan is not even frightened of people, farmers and the youth. His words do not count for me,” Nath said.
The state Congress’s election campaign committee chairman Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was by Nath’s side, said the BJP-ruled state’s economy was in ruins. “MP is under a debt of over Rs 2 lakh crore. This means every person in the state owes Rs 26,000,” he said.
Earlier, addressing party workers after taking charge of the state unit, Kamal Nath said people were fed up with the BJP government, and he, along with Scindia and the Congress cadres, would ensure BJP’s defeat in the coming elections.
“75 per cent of the state’s economy is agrarian, but farmers and others associated with it are not happy with the government,” Nath said.
He also recalled his long association with the Gandhi family. “I had the privilege of working with Sanjay Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and now (Congress president) Rahul Gandhi who has given me this responsibility of strengthening the Congress in Madhya Pradesh,” Nath said.
“The BJP government in MP organised several investor meets with a lot of fanfare, but no investment came,” he said.
Scindia said in his speech that the Congress government will work for peasants, give employment to the unemployed and protect women’s honour. The Guna MP slammed BJP leaders for making irresponsible statements on the recent rape cases that shocked the country.
Former chief minister Digvijay Singh said the BJP government had filed a large number of false cases of murder or attempt to murder against Congress workers, and the Congress leaders, when they come to power in the state, should look into them.
All India Congress Committee general secretary in-charge of Madhya Pradesh Deepak Babaria, outgoing state unit president Arun Yadav and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ajay Singh also spoke at the meeting.
Earlier, Nath was given a grand welcome after his arrival at the airport. The former Union minister travelled in a huge procession to the party office `Indira Bhawan’, about 15 km away. The journey took nearly six hours.
Braving a scorching heat of 42.6 degree Celsius, Congress workers welcomed Nath by beating drums and dancing in the streets, causing traffic jams.
Scindia, Digvijay Singh and former Union minister Suresh Pachouri accompanied Nath in his vehicle.
Nath was last week appointed the MP Congress president to revive the party’s fortunes in the state where it is out of power for over a decade.
The welcome he received here on Tuesday is being seen as an attempt by the state Congress to give a message that it is united in the face of coming elections.
