Forever Champ for a reason! She fought through fear and beat the demon from her past. Both Billie and Athena as champs makes me happy.
Athena is the fucking best.

Who do you think are the next AEW/ROH champs for each title?
Let's see if I can remember them all ;)
ROH trios - I'd like to see Dalton Castle and The Boys win them back. If not them, I would say Top Flight with AR Fox would be fun.
ROH Television Title - I'm going outside the box on this one and picking Miro. He's gotta come back eventually and a Miro/Joe feud would be fun.
ROH Tag titles - The Kingdom. They're more ROH based and Maria is a good talker for when they start doing their weekly shows(if Tony ever remembers he promised us weekly ROH shows).
ROH Women's Champion - Marina's had a few chances but I don't think she's quite ready. But if they wanted to further the tension between her and Nyla, I would say Nyla should be next.
ROH Pure Title - No one. It's Yuta's forever. But if I have to pick, someone like Lee Moriarty. He and Yuta could have a great feud, maybe changing it between each other as they put the pure division on the map.
ROH World title - Joe, after he drops the TV title to Miro. Or Miro when he comes back.
AEW FTW - I'm not sure if Hook will ever drop it since it's his dad's title, but if he did, I think it will be to someone he's already shown respect to, like Danhausen or Jungle Boy.
AEW All Atlantic title - Takeshita. Especially since he's still signed with DDT too. Have him and and do a circuit with the title as he defends it everywhere.
AEW Trios - House of Black. It's gotta be them.
AEW Tag titles - I really want to see Claudio and Yuta, or any variation of the BCC win them, but I don't think Tony will do that. Now that Death triangle don't have the trios titles, I wouldn't be shocked to see The Lucha Bros win the tag titles. Especially if they're turning heel.
AEW TBS title - They made it clear it was supposed to be Kris before she got hurt, and if she's not close, then I say either Willow or Ruby. They're already feuding with Tay and Anna, throw in Penelope and The Bunny and you have a solid midcard for the women's division.
AEW TNT title - Hobbs. Darby is best when he's being thrown again by big dudes who want to kill him. He's already beaten Joe, Wardlow is a face and probably busy with Joe, and Hobbs been getting those showcase videos.
AEW women's title - Jamie will probably have it for a while so it's hard to say. There's plenty of women who can step up in that time. But with picking Jade to lose her title, she could be next in line to run the whole division.
AEW World title aka Triple B - Like Jamie, I expect MJF to hold the title for a while. Unless the ratings crash and Tony decides to do something drastic. I would say Wardlow here. Spend the time heating him back up, position him as the only person MJF is actively avoiding, not just making jump through hoops but actually avoiding because he remembers what happened last time they were in the ring together.

ROH Women's Champion Athena Lists Women She'd Like To Wrestle
Read More Wrestling Inc. By /Oct. 28, 2023 3:00 am EST Even when one is a “forever champ,” as Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Athena likes to call herself, it’s always good to have more opponents. Athena could certainly use some, as she has successfully defended her ROH Women’s title numerous times over the last year, including wins over Willow Nightingale twice, and Kiera Hogan three…

Photos.
This show was fantastic and by far the best of the weekend (the MSG show could have rivalled it had it not gone on forever, and if it had all the ROH nonsense removed). It had five matches, all of which were great. Some people are calling the main event one of the greatest matches of all time, and whilst it was phenomenal and had a white hot crowd, there were certain issues I had with it, namely the fact it didn’t really need to be 2/3 falls, all the kick-outs of stuff that probably shouldn’t be kicked out of, just to get those precious pops, not to mention all of the overbooking in the third act of the match. Regardless of this, it was tremendous stuff, with a compelling story, and a super hot crowd completely invested in every step. Cole won the first fall with The Last Shot, then Gargano evened the score via submission win with Gargano Escape. After locking Cole in the stretch again, the rest of Cole’s stable ran out and interefered, but in the end, Johnny Wrestling sent them packing, a millon things were kicked out of, and Gargano finally won the vacant title with Gargano Escape. The place went crazy for the win, which is very interesting seeing as Cole was the fan favourite going in, so through pure storytelling, Gargano rallied the fans into cheering him on by the end. And not just cheering him on, having a complete emotional investment in him winning. Which is a total masterstroke. Then to excentuate the emotion, a fresh-out-of-major-neck-surgery Tomasso Ciampa came out, and he, Gargano, and Candice LaRae all embraced to end the show. This was a great moment, even if in storyline it made no real sense.
The rest of the show was tremendous also. The War Raiders defeated Black and Ricochet in an exceptional doubles clash. This was your usual TakeOver Tag Title encounter, in that there is a bunch of hot tags, it breaks down into everyone getting their shit in, finishers be damned, and the crowd goes nuts. Hey, I’m not knocking it, its just what wrestling has become in 2019 in the western world. This one featured incredible action throughout, including Rowe and the massive Hanson matching their opponents highspots, and Ricochet showing his incredible strength too, in catching Hanson on a crossbody, and hitting a fall away slam. In the end, the champions hit Ricochet with Fall Out to retain in an excellent opener. Matt Riddle challenged North American champion Velveteen Dream in the next match. This too was excellent, though I’m not paticularly sold on Dream, if I’m being honest. He looks great, and has loads of charisma, but in the ring theres just something not quite “there” yet, I don’t know. Riddle, who dominated the whole match pretty much, hit Dream with the Kota Ibushi deadlift German off the ropes spot, Dream lands and nearly dies, then Riddle, who isn’t a flyer, goes up top and hits a twisting senton, and Dream kicked at two. The finish saw Dream retain when he turned the Bromission into a cradle. Riddle teased a heel turn here, but didn’t. I’d be all for that honestly.
Next up, Pete Dunne, who’s been champion since May of 2017, defended the UK Title against everyones favourite Austrian bruiser, WALTER. This was an exceptional, hard-hitting war, which was the second best of the night. WALTER’s offense is so believable, and Dunne too was tremendous here, even if I could have done without a random kick-out of a top rope sleeper suplex, which should have killed him. After eating numerous monsterous chops, the Bruiserweight hit his Bitter End finish for a great near fall. The Ring General rocked the champ with a big boot, hit a terrifying top rope powerbomb, then dethroned the unbeatable champion with a big splash. This was a tremndous bout. The womens match had a tough time following this, but still produced a great, all-action encounter, which saw Baszler retain via rear naked choke induced submission over BelAir. Then it was main event time, and as written above, it was fantastic from an atmosphere standpoint. All in all, one of the best WWE related shows I’ve ever seen, and I highly recommend you check it out if you haven’t.

Let’s make the dream card for AEW x NJPW ‘Forbidden Door’
Here are the best matches for wrestling’s biggest supershow.
After months of speculation, rumor became reality. AEW owner Tony Khan announced on AEW Dynamite on Wednesday that the first supershow with his company and New Japan Pro Wrestling would take place on June 26 in the United Center.
AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door is unquestionably the biggest cross-promotional supershow of all-time. Shows like this have happened in the past, most notably in 2019 when Ring of Honor and NJPW sold out Madison Square Garden — but this is very, very different. RoH had bled a lot of talent at the time, making that supershow really a more New Japan-focused event with some RoH talent. This, on the other hand, is AEW at the peak of its popularity, and New Japan on the verge of launching its own offshoot brand in the United States.
It’s impossible to even begin to imagine some of the potential matches we’ll get, but I put my fantasy booking hat on to put together my absolute dream card for these two companies.
Champion vs. Champion “Hangman” Adam Page (c) vs. Kazuchika Okada (c)
A show like this needs a champion vs. champion match, and I think Hangman and Okada could tear the house down. It wouldn’t hurt Page at all to lose to someone like Okada, who is already being considered as one of the greatest wrestlers of this generation. I think the entire back-and-forth premise of these two champions both trying to hit their finishing lariats (the Buckshot and Rainmaker, respectively) makes for a great match.
Hangman showed he has stamina in his 60-minute epic against Bryan Danielson, and we all know Okada can go forever. These two would be poetry in the ring.
Champion vs. Champion Thunder Rosa vs. Syuri
I’m including the women from Stardom on this card, because I can’t imagine the supershow won’t have any women’s matches on it. I like the symmetry of two champ vs. champ matches, and it would be amazing exposure in the U.S. for Syuri, who some might remember from her brief stint in UFC. This makes sense, especially if New Japan want their sister promotion to grow more of a following in the west.
Jay White and the Undisputed Elite vs. The Golden Elite
Okay, okay ... I know this is pie in the sky thinking. I don’t care, this is my card. Can you imagine for a second what would happen if Kenny Omega AND Kota Ibushi returned from injury in Chicago and then reunited the Golden Lovers on the same night? The roof would blow off that building.
Everything is set up for this tenuous relationship between Adam Cole and The Young Bucks to boil over, and it’s here I’d set up a giant story arc of The Elite turning face and rallying against the Bullet Club and The Undisputed Elite. Forbidden Door would be the turning point for Omega to come back into the light after going to his darkest places since his “Cleaner” persona in New Japan, and the last time that happened it was Ibushi who was the catalyst.
Give me this match and I won’t ask for anything out of wrestling again.
FTR vs. G.O.D
Two of the best tag teams in the world give us one to remember. This is a really interesting time in story for both teams. FTR seem to be making a full face turn after parting ways with MJF and The Pinnacle, while G.O.D were recently kicked out of Bullet Club.
These four guys live and breathe tag team wrestling, and to my knowledge they’ve never met in the ring. I don’t think it hurts anyone to have either team win, and it could be the inroad to potentially see FTR go on a quest to collect more tag gold and set their sights on Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb, who currently hold the belts.
Sting vs. The Great Muta
AEW loves giving us blasts from the past, and nothing would press that nostalgia button like this. Sting and Muta last met at the 1991 supershow between WCW and NJPW, making this match one that’s been 30 years in the making. We don’t need this to be long, as both guys are really old, but damn would this be great to see.
Muta is currently under contract with NOAH, but I’m sure a deal could be done that would make this dream match happen.
NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship Blackpool Combat Club vs. House of Torture (c)
Here’s the one place on the card where I’d actually have a title on the line, and even see it change hands. William Regal’s Blackpool Combat Club is one of the most exciting new stables in wrestling, and putting Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson and Wheeler Yuta against the Bullet Club offshoot of EVIL, Yujiro Takahashi and Sho would be a banger.
BCC’s strong-style tendencies would fit perfectly as champions in New Japan, and the NEVER Openweight 6-Man titles would be a way to foray them into AEW finally introducing trios titles of their own, which we’ve all been waiting for.
PAC vs. Will Ospreay
Just let these two go. The only risk I see in putting PAC and Ospreay on a card this low is that they might steal the whole damn show and wear the crowd out. Two of the best high flyers in the world putting on a clinic would be a spectacle, GIF-filled match made for social media. I also think they’d have great chemistry in the ring.
Daniel Garcia vs. Zach Sabre Jr.
I’m so high on Daniel Garcia it’s not funny. I’ve haven’t seen a technical wrestler perform at his level, at his age since ... well, ZSJ. This would be a huge pace-change for the show where instead of strikes and big moves, we’re basically going to have two guys try to break each other’s limbs in a variety of ways we’ve never considered. I think this would be an amazing match.
C.M. Punk vs. Kenta
The battle of the GTS. This has been brewing for a while, and Kenta is calling out Punk on social media wanting this. Two guys who share the same finishing move (if we’re being technical, Punk took it from Kenta), trying to win by hitting it on each other. The crowd would be hot for this, and I think the two wrestlers could really build interest in this match on Twitter, as well as promos leading up to the event.
Sammy Guevara vs. El Desperado
This is another kind of champion vs. champion match, but we won’t call it that because the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title and TNT Championship don’t really align. Either way, here we’ve got two high flyers with Guevara being a future cornerstone of AEW up against an established, legendary cruiserweight in El Desperado.
Britt Baker vs. Saya Kamitani
Another chance to give some exposure to Stardom’s roster, I love the idea of putting Britt Baker and Saya Kamitani together. Britt is one of the best, most over women’s wrestlers on the planet, and Kamitani has a huge following as a former idol who was part of the group AKB48.
The Best Friends and Rocky Romero vs. Tetsuya Naito, Sanada, and Andrade El Idolo
I need Andrade El Idolo to get a better angle, because he’s dying on the vine for me in AEW. This whole money-based boss leader thing really isn’t doing it for me, and the best turn comes by way of a Los Ingobernables reunion.
We’ve already established CHAOS in New Japan with Trent Beretta and Rocky Romero reforming Rappongi Vice on several occasions, so this just continues the faction war — and allows the melding of these NJPW stables into AEW a little more. I think it would be a hell of a way to kick off the show, and reestablishing Andrade could be the boost he needs to push him into main event status.

Randy Savage Unreleased: The Unseen Matches of the Macho Man
youtube
Freak out, freak out, oh yeahhhhh…..sorry I could not resist, but kicking off an entry with that iconic catchphrase means it is time to cover a Macho Man home video collection. In 2018 WWE gave Macho Man the ‘Unreleased’ DVD treatment, a line of several DVD match collections containing entirely never before released on home video matches. I already covered one on here several months ago dedicated to Hulk Hogan, so it would only seem appropriate to cover another one dedicated to his Mega Powers partner, Randy Savage. Like the Hogan DVD, it has a gratuitously long title in the form of Randy Savage Unreleased: The Unseen Matches of the Macho Man (trailer). If you are into these ‘Unreleased’ sets, then check back here later this year as there are two other semi-recent installments I plan on knocking out by the end of this year. Randy Savage Unreleased is jacked with content at three discs tallying up nine hours of material. There is a total of 41 (!!) matches and 9 promos spanning Macho’s career in WWF and WCW from 1985 through 1999. Also interspersed every several matches is one of 10 newly recorded panel discussion segments with Corey Graves, Bayley, Sean Mooney and Diamond Dallas Page. The panel discussions are not throwaway one-to-minute quick takes, but instead each are nearly several minutes each where all four panelists reminisce about each stage of Macho’s career with Mooney and Page both having pivotal on-hand accounts for how Savage was at that point backstage too. Page has detailed memories of his classic WCW rivalry with Randy and recounts a story I was all ears for about a voice mail he left for Macho on Thanksgiving. Hearing Bayley’s love for Randy was an interesting perspective to take in since she states she was not aware of him until his WCW years. Corey Graves’ passion for the 1993-as-hell Macho Man rap music video rubbed off on me as I never saw it before this collection and I will link to it here so you can have it forever imprinted into your mind as well.
Obviously I am not going to dissect each and every one of the 41 matches included here, but I will point out some highlights. In general, the quality of matches is fairly solid, and even though a fair amount of the first nine matches are in Macho’s early years with mostly quick, dominant encounters they were still a delight to watch his character evolve from coming out with a cape to adding in his vintage 80s bandana and ring robe and seeing his then-wife Miss Elizabeth join his side. Some early things that caught my eye were Macho’s first TV match in June of 1985 against Aldo Marino where the hype of Randy being the ‘hottest free agent’ attracted all of WWF’s managers to ringside to scout him in action. One of Jesse Ventura’s few WWF matches is here where he tags with Macho Man shortly before he succumbed to a career-ending injury not too long after signing with the WWF. I dug Savage’s first matches on here against formidable competition like former tag champ and Mark Henry manager, Tony Atlas and unearthing a high quality 1986 WWF match against the hidden gem of 80s WWF enhancement talent in one Scott McGhee. When it shifts into his Intercontinental title run, there is a good rematch included with Ricky Steamboat that had a red hot crowd and countless near falls and another good match against Steamboat where he teamed up with Honky Tonk Man against Steamboat and Hogan. His WWF Title run era features must-see WrestleMania-rematches against Ted Dibiase and Hulk Hogan.
Of all of Randy Savage’s flamboyant ring attires, the one I fondly remember the most was his over-the-top cowboy hat and full body attire complete with tassels. I had no idea until going through this collection that he started rocking that classic look midway through his two year run as the ‘Macho King’ with Queen Sherri by his side. The only notable match in this collection from that run is another WrestleMania-rematch with the mixed tag bout with Macho King and Sherri against Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire. There are nearly a dozen matches from Savage’s final few years in WWF after his reinstatement, but only three truly standout. One is a unique trios pairing that has Randy teaming with Piper and Jim Duggan against Ric Flair, Undertaker and Jake the Snake, while the other is another tag bout with Randy teaming with the Dead Man to take on Ric Flair and Berzerker. Seeing the chemistry between Savage and Undertaker was something special to say the least. Lastly, Savage has a heck of a bout with a post-Red Rooster, Terry Taylor in one of the better technical matches on the set. There are a few key WCW matches to point out in here from the eight included. One is where he is part of the teaming with the Hulkster against the Dungeon of Doom and hitting all the classic Mega Powers spots, including hitting an elbow on Hogan to wake him up after he succumbed to a sleeperhold. There is an awesome Nitro match on here against Ric Flair…which has a cruddy finish unfortunately, but everything else leading up to it is the best wrestling in this entire set. The most peculiar match on here is Savage wrestling on a C-tier weekend morning WCW show, {Pro} where he takes on Kurasawa and has Hulk Hogan by his side too in a strange twist. I am guessing Savage and Hogan must be tight with Kurasawa because these two were making huge money for limited dates in WCW and to have both of them appear in this weekend morning show match is a head scratcher…..it would be kind of like tuning in to Main Event now and seeing Brock Lesnar wrestling. The final match in the set was a surprisingly delightful schmoz of a mixed tag match with Savage and Madusa teaming up with Ric Flair and “Lil Naitch” himself, Charles Robinson! I expected the worst going in considering this was in 19990 when WCW was beginning its downward ratings spiral in its last couple years, but the four pull off a lot of entertaining spots and salvaged a heck of a performance.
Randy Savage Unreleased is a fairly strong compilation of matches and promos from Macho Man. I would say about a third of it is skippable, and there are a few teases of intriguing match-ups that wrapped up far too quick thanks to poor booking, like a WCW contest against Curt Hennig for example. I have no idea why there were two ho-hum matches against Mr. Hughes included either. That is almost to be expected of these ‘Unreleased’ collections, and seeing Savage’s character, moveset, attire and personality evolve from beginning to end is also fascinating in and of itself. I am glad we got a fair smattering of vintage Macho Man promos throughout his career, with his campaigning reinstatement speech and the aforementioned music video standing out the most of the bunch. Having a break from the 41 matches with the occasional promo and panel discussion segments are appreciated breathers from the action, and the panelists all bring a lot of classic Macho Man stories and memories to the table. This all adds up to Randy Savage Unreleased: The Unseen Matches of the Macho Man being a must-see for any Randy Savage aficionado.

This week in the WWE was a bloodbath.
On Wednesday, the company made a series of announcements that owner Vince McMahon said would save the company $4 million a month and $140 million in upcoming costs in what would have been a move into the new WWE headquarters in Stamford, CT. . On the personal side, it also cost over 30 people their jobs with the WWE.
Among the cuts were Kurt Angle, Rusev, Zack Ryder, Karl Anderson and Lio Rush along with both Maria and Mike Bennett. In addition to on-air superstars, there were many familiar names backstage who were let go with Fit Finley, Shane Helms, Mike Rotunda and Billy Kidman amongst them.
It appears as if the producers were all furloughed and fired. They’ve reportedly been given a date of July 1st that they could be back with the company. Also, it’s been reported that all talent that was let go have 90-day compete clauses in their contracts.
One of the more emotional superstars to be cut that spoke publicly was Drew Maverick. Maverick, ironically, is still scheduled to be shown this upcoming Wednesday night as part of the Cruiserweight Tournament on NXT.
My immediate thoughts.@WWE @WWENXT #WWE #NXT @TripleH @ShawnMichaels #Cruiserweight pic.twitter.com/Afw58V7eo1
— Drake Maverick (@WWEMaverick) April 15, 2020
The full list is: Kurt Angle, Rusev, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, Drake Maverick, Eric Young, EC3, Lio Rush, Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, Heath Slater, Sarah Logan, Erick Rowan, No Way Jose, Primo & Epico Colon, Mike Kanellis, Maria Kanellis, Deonna Purrazzo, Aleksander Jaksic, Aiden English (announcer), Mike Chioda (referee), Billy Kidman (producer), Mike Rotunda (producer), Dave “Fit” Finlay (producer), Pat Buck (producer), Shawn Daivari (producer), Scott Armstrong (producer), Sarah Stock (producer), Shane Helms (producer), Lance Storm (producer), Andrea Listenberger (writer), Serena Deeb (coach) Ace Steel (coach), MJ Jenkins, Norman Smiley (coach), Josiah Williams (announcer), Jerry Soto (announcer – furloughed), Tino Sabbatelli, Cezar Bononi, Mars Wang, Taynara Conti, Nick Ogarelli and Kendo Kashin (coach).
Now, it will be interesting to see who ends up where, right? Of interest to AEW should be Rusev, Rowan, Maria & Mike Kanellis for starters. Although, you have to think AEW won’t want to oversaturate the roster and be efficient with their company size and tv time. Gallows and Anderson you would think would be destined back to NJPW. ROH and Impact Wrestling are also spots to look to add. Lio Rush would be a good compliment to any roster these days.
As for the WWE, as much as the roster cuts hurt the individuals, there is one way to look at it in the positive. Most of these superstars weren’t getting the tv time or the right push they deserved. So, pairing it down and concentrating on more creative with less people might help the product in the end. Who knows. In the end, though, my hearts and prayers go out to all affected, especially in these unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Oh yeah, the coronavirus pandemic, something the WWE has still yet to utter and acknowledge head on in any of its television programming. A mistake then, now and forever. They should’ve been honest with the WWE Universe they so richly tell us they care about. Right!

We’ll just call Monday Night RAW what it was – Monday Night Zelina Vega! With her hands in both Austin Theory and Angel Garza’s victories and subsequent beatdowns after their matches along with Andrade, the new female face of Monday nights led the US Champ into a champion vs. champion match against WWE champion Drew McIntyre. It’s good to see a new faction taking the spotlight, but will it stick or is it just part of the circumstances with a decreased roster available due to the pandemic? We shall see, but I like what I see so far. They’ll have to keep Andrade strong after his main event loss.
The #MondayNightMessiah @WWERollins enjoyed EVERY second of that. #WWERaw pic.twitter.com/l3NEiqtviy
— WWE (@WWE) April 14, 2020
Now, after the win, McIntyre gets curbstomped by Seth Rollins, who seemingly is now in line for a title shot at Money in the Bank. The other question will be that is Rollins now aligned with the new Vega faction or just partners in crime for a night? We shall see. Also, since Seth lost at WrestleMania to Kevin Owens, should KO be getting a shot and not the Monday Night Messiah? Seems odd.
It was disappointing to see Kairi Sane get decimated by Nia Jax in less than 3 minutes. She deserves better. The same could be said for the now departing Sarah Logan, who got stopped by an “arm injury” at the hands of Shayna Baszler.
I don’t quite get having Ricochet & Cedric Alexander lose just one week after being put together. It was a fun match with The Viking Raiders but didn’t seem like it gave the up-and-coming team the help it needed. One week does NOT a push make.
Finally, is the WWE really out of creativity? Three times we got the (insert superstar) is here on the graphics! Be better!

We did get the debut with Timothy Thatcher being hand-picked by Pete Dunne, who can’t travel to the US with the pandemic restrictions. Not too shabby starting the NXT career with a hand-given title and a win over Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong, who was subbing for Kyle O’Reilly.
So, Charlotte Flair wants Mia Yim to get her first shot in NXT since it was her first match in NXT. That’s cute and detailed. I like it.

Tamina defeated Sasha Banks – Tamina wins a shot at Bayley’s SmackDown Women’s Title
Sheamus defeated Denzel DeJournette
Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Dana Brooke defeated Naomi
Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Daniel Bryan defeated Cesaro
Triple Threat Tag Team Title Match: Big E defeated The Miz and Jey Uso to win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles for The New Day
I’ll give it the blue crew. SmackDown definitely had more urgency, emotion and a good vibe too it than in the past few weeks. I don’t think that’s just because it went “live.” It was a very enjoyable two-hours and I’d give it the show of the week, two thumbs up!
BREAKING: WWE Superstars will climb the corporate ladder at #MITB! The match begins on the ground floor of WWE Headquarters but the briefcases will be hanging all the way up on the roof of the corporate tower! https://t.co/iGoIUggwzo pic.twitter.com/TqawawkBXs

First things first. Let me get this straight. For this year’s Money in the Bank matches, superstars have to climb to the roof of WWE corporate headquarters to grab the vaunted briefacases? Did I hear that right? OK, you’ve got my attention. I’m officially intrigued to see how this one plays out.

The Little Big Things start the night as Universal Champion Braun Strowman joins former teammate Alexa Bliss (and Nikki Cross) on A Moment of Bliss. Love that they are tying in the old storyline with Braun and The Wyatt Family, complete with Braun’s old goat mask as a gift. If they make it emotional and full of mind games, The Fiend vs. The Monster could have legs.
Looks like we’ll get more Lacey Evans vs. Sasha Banks as Evans helps Tamina to take down The Boss to earn her a shot at Banks’ BFF Bayley’s Women’s Smackdown Title. Next Friday, it’s Evans vs. Banks in a MITB Qualifying match.
We guess @WWESheamus isn't a fan of @JEFFHARDYBRAND. #SmackDown pic.twitter.com/r4RXbR1x9s

Sheamus in another <1 minute squash. Why? And yeah, BTW: what’s his beef with Michael Cole and Jeff Hardy?
Shocker of the night – Dana Brooke over Naomi in the Women’s Qualifying Match. Did not see that coming. Between that win and a future tag team title match, things are looking up for Miss Brooke.
We got more emotion and backstory out of Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville in five minutes Friday night than we’ve got out of Fire and Desire in five years. Keep it personal and keep it up ladies!
Give me more of those short introductory vignettes like we saw for The Forgotten Sons! Now’s the time to let us know these superstars really are!

We wanted more of the hacker and we’ve got him. Could this week’s spot be teasing a twist and potential heel turn between teams like The Miz & John Morrison, The New Day, The Usos and Bliss & Cross? Or maybe the hacker means Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura & Sami Zayn or Daniel Bryan and Drew Gulak. Intriguing!
Daniel Bryan and Cesaro in the same ring is truly a clinic and their short time together Friday night didn’t disappoint. Good to see Bryan back in the title picture too by qualifying for the MITB match. I wonder if we’ll see Drew Gulak join him there as next Friday, Gulak faces King Corbin in a MITB qualifying match.
Not for nothing, but shouldn’t Corbin and Elias do a match in Memphis for the rightful title of The King when it’s all said and done? Jerry “The King” Lawler would have to do commentary of course!

Congrats to The New Day – now 8 time WWE Tag Team Champions! Big E gets it done over Jey Uso and The Miz in the triple threat match. Nice touch using the “social media” reactions from Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods too!
Parting shots:
RIP Howard Finkel. A legendary voice. But so much more. Simply a legend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
If you haven’t gotten a chance to see The Big Show Show on Netflix, do it. It’s very entertaining and funny. Paul Wight’s got some acting chops folks!
Thanks for letting us share our thoughts! Shoot me an email at [email protected]. We’d love to hear your comments and suggestions! I think Starks/Athena may be my favourite match of this year. I am probably the biggest Athena mark you'll meet tho so my opinion is biased.
It felt like because of her training with Athena, Billie wrestling a much more aggressive match than she usually does. But you can't beat Athena at her own game. Seeing the face of the nineteen year old Starks stained with blood was horrific but also really cool in a dramatic way.
I also loved the finish and post-match. (If I remember correctly) neither woman successfully hit their finish despite both hitting sigs.
And although it disappointed me, Billie losing makes alot of sense. Despite Billie being a really good wrestler, in kayfabe, she really shouldn't be beating Athena at least not yet me thinks.
And Billie becoming a minion again is actually great. Really what Athena, Lexi and Billie are portraying is an abusive relationship/toxic friendship. And those are hard to leave. Billie had finally had enough so fought against Athena but failed and now she's shrinking back into the minion role because it didn't work.
The spot with Lexi and the title and Lexi comforting Billie after the match is beautiful since Lexi is, I'd say, deeper in Athena's manipulation. Lexi Nair became Athena's 'bestie' after Athena aggressively came into an interview and passively threatened violence. And unlike Billie, Lexi can't fight back. She's not a wrestler so she needs to do anything to keep Athena happy. Like when Athena was angry that Lexi was nice to Willow on Collison and she claimed production made her say it.
In conclusion, I'm very normal about this professional wrestling story. If you haven't seen the compilation on AEW's YouTube channel, you really should. And if you haven't watched the final battle Starks/Athena match, you really should. If you don't have honorclub and can't find it illegally anywhere, like I'll record my screen and send it to you. More people should watch this match.

RoH Supercard of Honor XI
Welcome all to my yearly recap of Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor (SoH) event. It is the one RoH show I make sure to catch every year, so click here to check out past installments. 2017 marked the 11th edition of the show and like most previous SoH cards, it transpired within the same vicinity as where Wrestlemania occurred that same weekend. As a result, the announcers for this show (Kevin Kelly, Colt Cabana, Ian Riccaboni) stated SoH XI had one of the largest attendances in RoH history. RoH is about in the same place as it was a year ago, owned by TV conglomerate Sinclair. One new addition to RoH since the prior SoH was bringing back their own women’s division and branding it as ‘Women of Honor.’ They aired a handful of women-only shows since the summer of 2016 and women matches spotlighted on the RoH YouTube channel are among their videos that garner their highest traffic. RoH still has their weekly syndicated TV show that can be found on your local Sinclair affiliate or on a few day delay on the official RoH website. I am impressed to see they have maintained their step up in ring and arena lighting that I noticed last year as it brings their overall production values up to a more professional level. They even added a few video-trons to their entrance area and have near-WWE quality matchup and banner graphics throughout the event. Big ups to Sinclair these past two years for doing those little things that go a long way!
The four prelim matches are included as bonus material on disc two and are all Women of Honor bouts. On one hand this is great seeing four women matches on a show, but to see them all relegated to the preshow is disheartening. Tasha Steelz bested Brandi Lauren in the opener with a Butterfly Suplex in a basic opener while the arena was still filing in. Next, Mandy Leon & Jenny Rose beat Sumie Sakai & Faye Jackson in a bout that engaged the crowd with a few more dives and high-flying maneuvers and saw Mandy get the pin with her Unprettier finisher. The best of the four women’s matches featured talent on loan from Mexican promotion CMLL. Marcela and La Amapola are two sound veterans who had a main event caliber match with many impressive holds and moments, and eventually Marcela got the victory with a Michinoku Driver. The final women’s match saw the undefeated Kelly Klein defeat Deonna Purrazzo with a Northern Lights Suplex. The announcers kept hyping Klein as a big deal for being undefeated for 525 days going into the match, so I anticipate only big things for her ahead. The opener for the main SoH XI card was for the TV title and featured Marty Scrull defending the strap against Bullet Club member Adam Cole. Yes, the same Adam Cole who left for WWE a few months later and is now the head of the NXT faction, Undisputed Era with Bobby Fish and Kyle ‘o Reilly. This bout had a lot of good exchanges and counters and vicious-looking piledrivers. The exception however was Cole botching two attempts at a Tombstone, but the duo quickly found their footing not too long after. Eventually Scrull successfully defended the title with a rear naked choke submission. My man, Silas Young (AKA AWA Scott Hall) and Beer City Bruiser teamed up next against The Kindgom, and after some chicanery involving a cigar, Young hit his version of the TKO and got the pin while puffing away on the stogie in a fun match.
A nice highlight package recapping Bully Ray’s involvement in RoH and becoming a triple tag team champion along with the Briscoes helped set up their title defense versus Bullet Club’s Hangman Page & Gorillas of Destiny. If you recall my past RoH recaps, I am not a big fan of the lack of officiating in RoH tag bouts, but considering the participants involved here I will allow a little leeway in this match that had a ton of chaos and crowd pleasing madness. I am still a little surprised to see Bully Ray competing in an RoH ring, but he seems like a good fit with the Briscoes as they successfully defended their titles with a double Doomsday Device and Super 3D for the win. Another former WWE star made his SoH debut next with Bullet Club’s Cody Rhodes taking on Jay Lethal in a Texas Bullrope match. Oh yeah, I forgot he is just called ‘Cody’ here because WWE owns the ‘Rhodes’ trademark. Another video package and the announcers helped set the stage for their rivalry and why the Bullrope match is a big deal for the Rhodes family. There were some big moments here that saw Cody dawn the crimson mask and a sweet-looking spot from Cody where he popped up and toss Lethal through a table. Eventually Cody got his first RoH loss here after Jay pinned him with the Lethal Injection. The next match was a triple threat tag team match with the Motor City Machine Guns, the Rebellion and Will Ferrara & Cheeseburger. This contest was more of a cluster-mess with all kinds of hijinx in the opening half and the tag rules being practically non-existent. Once I got past the craziness, there were a few decent spots that culminated with the Motor City Machine Guns getting the win with their finish. The last match on disc one saw Punishment Martinez take on Frankie Kazarian. Martinez can fly for a big man, and he eventually got the victory with his South of Heaven Chokeslam after Hangman Page distracted Kaz.
The aforementioned Bobby Fish came out next and called out Jay Lethal, but instead Silas Young came out and the two had an impromptu match that featured a cringe-inducing ref bump. The match got thrown out after a few minutes when Silas attacked the replacement ref for the DQ. More CMLL talent was showcased in the next bout with Dragon Lee & Jay White taking on Volador Jr. & Will Ospreay. These guys can go, and their acrobatics puts a vast majority of the cruiserweight action on 205 Live to shame. Ospreay delivering a Shooting Star Press to the outside of the ring was the standout highlight, but it was his partner Volador Jr. who got the pin with a body scissors from the top rope. The first half of the double main event followed with Christopher Daniels defending his RoH World Title against Dalton Castle. It was a nice feel good story earlier this year with Daniels winning his first World Title gold after over 20 years in the business. Dalton dialed back his act enough so it is not as obnoxious as before, but despite his efforts in this match a well executed counter-exchange had Daniels getting the surprise roll-up win. After the match Cody attacked Daniels to set up their title match several weeks later.
The final match saw the Hardy Boyz defending their tag titles against the Bullet Club’s Young Bucks in a ladder match. Since my previous SoH recap, I have since ‘got’ the Young Bucks ‘too sweet/superkick party’ personas. It was a bit too over-the-top initially when first exposed to it last year, but I kind of get it now and am not as mortified by it as I once was. I still think they forever ruined the superkick as a finish, but to be fair so did the Usos in recent years to a lesser degree. The match did not disappoint, and while the Hardyz are 25-year vets, they nearly stayed on pace with the Young Bucks throughout. A couple OMG moments were the Bucks putting Jeff Hardy through a table with a 450 Splash and the Hardyz shoving one of the Bucks off a ladder in a specific way that he wound up inadvertently putting his own brother through a table. I am not kidding when I state that at least 10, maybe even 15 tables were broken throughout the match. Ultimately, the Young Bucks emerged as the new tag champs when they simultaneously superkicked both Hardyz off a ladder and grabbed the belts for the win. If you recall how this weekend went down earlier this year it was the final day for the Hardyz in their short RoH stint after a lengthy run in Impact/GFW/TNA. They would proceed to return to WWE the next night at Wrestlemania 33, but more on that in a future blog! SoH XI was a major improvement from the two night split SoH X lineup from last year. The overall show was better paced and they did not go excess on the comedy or highspots overkill like in some previous years. The continued bump in production quality and convenient storyline highlight packages that preceded most matches added a lot for a casual RoH fan like myself who only catches just a few shows a year. I would have liked to have seen at least one of the women’s matches on the main card, and I had a few other nitpicks noted above, but for the most part this was the best SoH show in quite a few years. My picks for matches of the night are the Bullrope match, the CMLL tag match and the tag titles ladder main event that delivered! Definitely go out of your way to add Supercard of Honor XI to your RoH collection!
