The Vannishing (1988)
directed by George Sluizer, adapted from the novella The Golden Egg (1984) by Tim Krabbé.
General Plot, spoiler free:Â
a man who searches obsessively for his girlfriend following her disappearance at a rest area.Â
Dutch/French film, has english subtitlesÂ
Runtime: 107 minutes
Place of Streaming: Amazon Prime, for rental or purchase.Â
Genre: Thirller/Mystery
Review:Â I personally enjoyed the film only because like the main character, I remained curious about the fate of the female character and wanted to know what happened. It is not a overly heady thriller and is an easy watch, the end is a good one.Â

SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
Some of my favorite parts.Â
- Raymonds practice with aubducting women, it was a unique perspective to see him try to work out the best way to do it. I also find it interesting that he took a scientifc approach to the task, likely because of his background.Â
- Rex as a character I will admit felt a bit flat, I was much more interested in Raymond. I think that is to do with all the screen time he had compared to Rex.Â
- I am slowly getting into foregin lanauge films and I love the transition between Dutch and French, made it feel natural and realistic.Â
- The end, I won’t spoil here either just because I know someone might try and read this ahead of time, was kind of what I expected but not in the way I imagined. Even if you ‘saw it coming’ how it happened I think wasn’t hinted at.Â
- Just adds to me fear of strange people asking for help at rest stops. Stay safe peeps!!Â
