In the 1960s when American cars were still given significant yearly annual updates along relatively similar dimensions, it was easy to label a car “all new” even when it wasn’t. The ’62 Fords were clearly visually related to the ‘61s, but in fact the basic car dated back to the 1957 Fords. Exterior styling changed radically in those years but the inner panels, frame, and many mechanical bits largely remained the same or evolved in place until 1965. - It’s the big Nascar-related hardtops, and their equally huge engines, that are remembered today - but most of these cars were family cars - though even in sedan form they could be ordered with engines ranging from the the humble 223 I6 to the mighty 406 V8, with a 292, 352, and the long-serving 390 in between. Galaxies were big cars but these larger V8s made them fast cars. But Ford’s designers also wanted to imbue the car with luxury touches by borrowing ideas from the Thunderbird. - Stylist Joe Oros, who worked on the ’62-’64 re-skins, once related that the formal roofs of 1962 were meant to directly echo the style of roof on the hardtop T-bird since 1958. The Thunderbird may have been a #Ford but it was a luxury car. Product VP L.D. Crusoe suggested that Ford needed emulate GM in certain respects - as Cadillac ideas trickled down to Chevy, so too could the T-bird and Lincoln styles to regular Fords. The formal roofs did give the Galaxie a richer look, and for Oros there was another component - making Fords look fundamentally unlike GM cars with their differently styled greenhouses. - The only drawback to the formal roofs was that they were terrible aerodynamically, and for 1963 a Fastback Galaxie appeared. Ford also briefly created a removable hardtop called the “starlift” for 1962 convertibles that aped the ’60-61 Starliner roofline in hopes it could be used in competition - it was banned after a single race. - The Fairlane name migrated to a mid-size for ’62, leaving only the Galaxie name in various guises - this Galaxie 500 would have been one of the top-spec sedans. 1935 Ford Sedan

The 1935 Ford was a thorough refresh on the popular V8-powered Ford. The four-cylinder Model A engine was no longer offered, leaving just the 221 CID (3.6 L) V8 to power every Ford car and truck. The transverse leaf springsuspension remained, but the front spring was relocated ahead of the axle to allow more interior volume. The body was lowered and new "Center-Poise" seating improved comfort.

Visually, the 1935 Ford was much more modern with the grille pushed forward and made more prominent by de-emphasized and more-integrated fenders, reflecting modern Art Deco influences. A major advance was a true integrated trunk on "trunkback" sedans, though the traditional "flatback" was also offered. Outdated body styles like the Victoria were also deleted for the year. The wooden panels were manufactured at the Ford Iron Mountain Plant in the Michigan Upper Peninsula from Ford owned lumber.

Two trim lines were offered, standard and DeLuxe, across a number of body styles including a base roadster, five-window coupe, three-window coupe, Tudor and Fordor sedans in flatback or trunkback versions, a convertible sedan, a woody station wagon, and new Model 51 truck.  Rumble seats were optional on coupe model. An oil pressure gauge (costing $4) and two windshield wipers were optional. If one got the optional radio, it replaced the ash tray. 

The Model 48 was an update on Ford's V8-powered Model 40A, the company's main product. Introduced in 1935, the Model 48 was given a cosmetic refresh annually, begetting the 1937 Ford before being thoroughly redesigned for 1941. The 1935 Ford's combination of price, practicality, and looks vaulted the company ahead of rival Chevrolet for the sales crown that year, with 820,000 sold.
