another portal-related au i like thinking about-

ford gets stuck in the multiverse again, but this time fiddleford is able to put together a little drone to send into a rift and go find him. they can't go get him themselves, but they can keep on an eye on him with the drone. it has some sort of radio (because normal radios should not be able to reach that far) attached so they can talk to him (this gets broken after a while :[), and a toggleable light so they can help him find his way around, and a secret little weapon so they can attack and distract anything that tries to hurt him. most of the time its fiddleford and stan manning the drone, but every now and then the niblings and even soos and wendy show up to keep him company

ford has conflicting feelings about the drone. he's so happy it's there, he's so happy he doesn't have to go through this all alone again, but...he also doesn't want his loved ones to see the kind of things he had to do to survive in the multiverse. the kind of things he had to go through. he doesn't want them to see the violence and the pain and the blood and the biting, scratching, hitting, kicking, tearing, ripping, killing, killing-
