        Turning on his heel, Han drove a savage glare toward the young man.  When cornered into points of uncertainty, Luke’s tolerance ran as thin as ever.  Would’ve appreciated it a helluva lot more if Han didn’t HATE when it turned up at the worst of times.  Almost as touching as it was PROVOKING, like grappling with a wall of karkin' permacrete.

        Han narrowed his eyes, an explicit indignation held trapped between clenched teeth.  ❝ Yeah, keep standin’ on that ankle ‘n we’ll jus’ SEE if you’ll be of any godsdamn help when there’s ‘DANGER’. ❞  There was a satirical spin on the words.  He was not in the proper state of mind to assert peripheral stamps of authority, regardless of his title.  ALLIANCE GENERAL or not, uninjured or not.  Couldn’t shuffle all the aces when conditions read as grave as he’d been dreading.

 The apology was certainly impulsive, though genuine when it slips from his lips.    He really is sorry.

    The air around them still feels too sharp and brittle, like he’s been breathing in glass.  It’s frightening to see, just how fragile Luke can become when he lacks that bright grin that refracts every concern projected his way.  

    Han settles his weight onto one leg, unsure of what to do.  His chest is in the midst of doing that thing again, where it contracts and swells, and it feels like he won’t be able to drag in his next breath even if his life depended on it.  Squeezing harshly, it twists his heart, like a godsdamned death roll and Han exhales shakily in the wake of it.  Luke just does that to him, he always has.  Han figures it’ll never go away, not in his lifetime.

    ❝I—❞  and stops, because he knows that he’ll somehow round back to the subject Luke wants no part of at the moment.  At least he caught himself this time.  The last thing they need is an argument that’d likely drive to Luke into doing something completely unexpected, for yet another time.

    ❝If it helps,❞  Han says slowly, his voice but a tame murmur in Luke’s ears.  ❝I’m not goin’ anywhere.❞     Not anywhere that doesn’t have you.
