ok ok so it’s like. they wouldn’t just show the fight in the promo if it was just a fight. something HAS to happen and not to like. get my hopes up but every finale has had at least one scene where guillermo has a self discovery; s1 he finds out about his ancestry. s2 he excepts that he is a vampire slayer. this whole season has been about guillermo being more confident but he has still been denying himself something. his feelings for nandor; we saw this very early in the season and if they continue to do the self discovery thing then his feelings are most definitely going to come up but of course this is nandor we’re talking about, so my theory is the fight scene will end with guillermo confessing his feelings in some way and then nandor will dip mid-scene. in the cast list for the ep it shows the sire will be back so i think he’s probably to go run off to new jersey to live with the sire and baron. it will probably show us one last scene with him sitting on the couch or something and then the ep ends.

And the Stars Shine the Same for the whip game <3
Okay so!! This one is actually readable on AO3. (Shamless self promo is shameless). Originally I went in to it intending to write just a really fluffy, casual hurt/comfort fic with a plot limited to, well, hurt/comfort. I wanted an excuse to write Elrond adopting some traumatized kids because I have problems, lmao.
Well the thing kind of got a life of it's own and has grown without control, and now there's dark forces at play, Galadriel and Thranduil are involved, and Maglor's running around like a hecking cryptid. Doesn't matter though cause I'm having a blast. So many Silmarillion references. Like, so many. It's basically turned into a baseball bat I'm beating you all with.
Very very very Elrond centric. We're dealing with his childhood, with his very complicated family (kidnap dads??? biological parents?? Elros??? aaa everything is a MESS), abandonment issues, and so on and so forth.
I'm working on the next chapter so I'll just put in two little preview snippets from the section I'm currently working on.
“So you see, at last, what my people have been dealing with,” Frumgar said, hand curled into a fist on the table.
“Yes,” Thranduil replied. He had his wine glass balanced in one hand and leaned back on one elbow in the armrest of his chair, one leg thrown over the other. “Which begs the question: what took you so long?”
“What?”
“To ask for aid,” Thranduil enunciated very slowly. “Was it arrogance or stupidity?”
Prince Fram froze. King Frumgar began to fill with steam. Elrond let out a very long sigh and cut in.
“It matters very little with regard to the issue at hand. The question remains: what sorcery is at work, and what is our next course of action?”
“I would like to remind you, sire, that without my intervention no one in this room would have known of this threat.” Frumgar said, glowering at Thranduil.
Elrond shut his eyes and rested his head on one hand.
--
“Do you want Ada?” Elladan ventured from where he hovered at the edge of their group.
Beetle nodded frantically through her tears.
“He’s in his study,” Elladan said. Elrohir stood and offered his hand and added: “We’ll walk you there.”
They took her down the hall and to the first floor, Arwen holding her right hand, Elrohir holding her left, with Elladan trailing behind. Halfway there, Elrohir ended up lifting her up to carry her the rest of the way and she buried her face in his shoulder.
“We have you,” he murmured into her ear. “We have you. You are safe, nethig. Ada will sort it out.”
He was shaking, too. His voice was tight with barely boxed-up rage.
Soon, she heard the waterfall, the bubbling fountain, and looked up just as Arwen opened the door to Lord Elrond’s study without bothering to knock.
Elrohir set Beetle on her feet. Lord Elrond was standing at the end of the room by his desk, looking surprised to see them. Beetle sobbed in relief and flew at him to throw her arms around his middle and bury her face in his chest.
He didn’t ask what she was here for. He just wrapped his arms around her, cocooning her up in his robes, warm, like a fortress. His heartbeat was strong, calm, steady.
“I apologize,” she heard him say to someone. “Could you give me a moment with my children?”
“Of course.”
Elrond is very Tired(tm). Someone please stop making this man host diplomatic councils between people that have no intention of getting along.
That’s about all I can share without giving away the entire plot of this section lmao.
Thank you so much for the ask!

ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok. so i think the saddest part about this is magnus' assumption that like... if he isn't useful, he isn't desirable. which we know is 100% how magnus rolls (therapy-needing icon) and would particularly ring true in raphael's case because like... magnus took raphael in when raphael was at his lowest. their relationship was started off by the fact that raphael needed him. and that makes it even harder for magnus to shake that feeling off
like, don't misquote me, it's not raphael's fault and that is not how he sees magnus at all. and i don't think magnus singlehandedly saved raphael or whatever; raphael had to build his own network of ppl and resources to get over his addiction and get back on his feet and build himself back together, as anyone does. no one can carry a burden as big as singlehandedly taking care of any one person, nevermind one in the state rapha was in. but the fact remains: raphael and magnus met when raphael was at his lowest, and they built their relationship because magnus helped him
and magnus knows raphael's got this whole repentance thing going on, he knows that raphael feels like a monster and a burden and like his debt to magnus is unmeasurable. and that makes him second-guess everything about their relationship, imo, because like... raphael probably feels like he has to keep magnus company, he has to do as he says or whatever, because he has a debt
and to some extent it's nice that magnus is like... aware of that imbalance, which is inherent to that situation, but then i think it becomes pretty much... being convinced that raphael doesn't like him and only puts up with him because he has to since he owes magnus
and when magnus "adopted" rapha, magnus was at a particular fragile point. i'm pretty sure rapha was the first person magnus ever let into his life, fully, enough to really know him and his insecurities and his true self, after camille. his other friends - catarina, dot, ragnor, elias - all knew him from before. and we know how after camille magnus locked his heart; yes, he was referring to romantic relationships, but when you are constantly afraid of falling in love with someone in case they will abuse you, you can't fully build platonic relationships either, because there is that wall that is there, a certain level of intimacy that you won't allow yourself
and with that i don't mean that romantic relationships are inherently more intimate or deeper than platonic ones! i mean that to build any sort of intimate relationship, romantic or platonic, you need to be able to allow yourself to be vulnerable, and magnus was obviously not allowing himself that, because he was scared of being vulnerable after it was used so viciously against him the last time he opened up his heart
but magnus is still too caring of a person to leave someone in a state as bad as raphael's - no sire, battling addiction, alone in the streets, probably no knowledge of the shadow world (this is probably where i should add my mandatory disclaimer that i'm not following book canon and i don't care how it went there, i'm talking about the show), no clan, no family, basically no one - alone, so of course he's gonna bring him in for a night and feed him and try to find a way to help him
but then you add to that two facts: 1- magnus is hopelessly affection and touch-starved and desperately needs company; 2- there is not many places raphael can actually go to
so of course magnus lets raphael stay. and it's for his own sake as much as it is for his, because again, magnus is starved, and he is at a point of his recovery where he needs to let people in, even if it's slowly and in a relatively safe situation - like, what can raphael do to hurt him? okay, there's a few things, but still. it's just easier to let yourself be vulnerable when the person you're allowing to see it is someone you've seen equally as or even more vulnerable. especially if they have no connections to people you know, as it is in rapha's case
PLUS, he empathises. i've said it before and i'll say it again, raphael and magnus have so much in common. from background (immigrants, brown, downworlders, one is bi the other is ace which are two groups known for their ties and solidarity with each other, trans if you go by my headcanons which i will because this is my blog and i do what i want) to coping mechanisms (both clearly deal with their problems on their own and try to avoid letting other people help them as much as they can, even if in very different ways - magnus creates a persona so he can be surrounded by people and not let them in too close whereas raphael doesn't let them get close from the get-go), to some of their personal psychological issues (this unbearable responsibility they carry on their shoulders, like everything and everyone is dependant on them and it is on them personally to help everyone they find: see raphael and how involved he got with simon and the way he talked about the other vampires/the clan even before he became clan leader, and magnus and Literally Everyone That Came Into His Path; the feelings of monstrosity they both feel due to their downworlder status and their past; the guilt; the self sacrificial/giving til it hurts tendencies; etc), to a few personality traits (similar sense of humor, both natural leaders, both pretty bold in their own ways; they also have many differences in personality but they are quite compatible/similar in other ways as well).... i could go on. i'm not saying they are Literally The Same Character (that'd be bad writing anyway, and there are notable differences such as raphael being way more recluse than magnus, their different moral codes, etc.) but there is a lot in common, which results in a nice dynamic in which:
they have fun with each other (think "because you're totally unbiased"; that was clearly a tease, neither of them were really upset by it, raphael looked at magnus expectantly like he expected magnus to laugh and magnus just glared at him in a clearly playful way)
they care for each other deeply (think every interaction we got between them or that included them talking about each other to a third person lmao i think this one is undeniable)
they trust each other incredibly (think raphael being tortured and going to magnus before he went to his own clan, then staying at his house, he obviously feels comfortable and safe there more than anywhere else including his own supposed home; and i wish we had gotten to see more of raphael taking care of magnus as well but of course the writers always forgot magnus had friends and family beyond shadowhunters lmao, but still, i think it's undeniable that the trust goes both ways because of the sheer difference in the way magnus treated raphael as opposed to other people who came for his help, including downworlders like simon)
they are openly affectionate with each other in a way they aren't with most people (think them hugging or the way magnus casually touched raphael's face like it was perfectly normal. that is like, the only s3 raphael scene i claim lmao)
hmmm where was i going with this. man i should really get checked for ADHD or whatever
RIGHT they built a nice relationship. which magnus craved!!! he really really needed someone he could be affectionate with, someone he could trust, someone he had fun with! and again, it's not that he didn't have that, but it was the first time he was building a relationship like this again from scratch after camille. plus, i'm sure camille pushed him away from his friends because that's what abusers do, and i'm sure magnus also pushed them away to some extent because again, being vulnerable was hard. but with raphael there was no escaping it. like, he was living at magnus' house
and he needed that! and i think raphael and their relationship had such an important catalyst role in magnus' recovery from camille. not that raphael saved him - again, that's not even possible - but the way their relationship was constructed was essential for magnus to start opening up again. without it i really doubt it would have been possible for him to open up to alec, and i think their relationship and history is extremely overlooked and underrated by the fandom
but like... the fact that he was in such a vulnerable emotional state to begin with, plus the fact that their relationship was kickstarted by the fact that raphael needed him, will obviously lead to him thinking that raphael only puts up with him or whatever because he needs him/feels indebted (because magnus knows at this point that raphael is not the kind to use people, but he also knows that raphael already acts like his mere presence in the world is something he has to make up for it's the catholicism so of course he's gonna feel like he needs to make up for magnus for such a huge gesture. anyone who's not an asshole would, but like, particularly raphael). cue magnus like, probably feeling guilty for getting so attached to raphael because he's an idiot
and like of course raphael feels indebted and grateful but he also does genuinely in fact like magnus (for all the reasons listed above) and also like, he did in fact also need more connections, he had just lost all of his previous ones. but most importantly he does care for magnus and loves him immensely even beyond all that magnus did for him. and he does see magnus as a person and knows about his struggles and vulnerabilities because it's impossible not to when you live/have lived together, and he just... cares and empathises
but also raphael obviously thinks he's a burden to magnus because duh, and i don't think magnus ever really told raphael how much taking raphael in helped him, how much it meant to him and his recovery, how he was doing it for himself as much as he was doing it for rapha, because 1- he's scared of being so open and vulnerable; 2- he's scared of making raphael feel even more guilty; 3- he's stupid and i think part of him assumed it went without saying
like he was always so openly affectionate with raphael (maybe even too much in his eyes, maybe he was scared of being too attached, putting too much on his shoulders, it's not this traumatized kid's job to deal with his issues for fuck's sake) and magnus has always worn his heart in his sleeve and he feels everything so deeply i think he sometimes forgets that it's not actually plain for everyone to see and feel. particularly not non-warlocks, since it's kinda implied that warlocks have some level of sensitivity to each other going on. plus raphael is autistic af so he can't tell what magnus is feeling if magnus doesn't fucking say it, and he has a terminally low self esteem that i assume would be even lower by that point (due to, you know... the general shitshow state his life was in), so of course he doesn't assume he's as important to magnus as magnus is to him, particularly not when he is literally burdening him (in raphael's eyes). so he thinks it's obvious but it's Really Not
so we have like a lot of misunderstanding angst with both of them wanting to get closer but thinking they are imposing on the other and pulling away, and both of them taking the other pulling away as a sign that they aren't comfortable and aaaa
so like i think that rapha would mention moving out so he can get out of magnus' hair, and magnus is all crestfallen because he's so not ready to be alone at home again, but he can't be selfish and hold the kid back just because he has shit he needs to deal with, right? it's not fair
and then like lowkey spiralling afraid that after that he's going to be alone again and raphael won't want to see him anymore, or worse, that he'll force himself to out of pity or guilt, and magnus will just be a chore to him
and raphael feeling like magnus wants to get rid of him and will want him out of his hair and aaaaaaaaaaa
and magnus of course is all put together and excited about it, "yes, my boy, don't worry, i'll help you move" and playfully tilting his head and being all excited and getting into chop-chop mode because as long as he can make himself useful he can avoid thinking about how he's gonna be alone again. and rapha of course taking this as magnus being eager for him to leave
and just doijasiodjasoij they're IDIOTS. i think this would be more or less resolved by raphael because at the very least he has to thank magnus for everything he's done and tell magnus that he means so much to him, that he'll always be thankful. and magnus again is all put together, all "it was nothing, my boy" but rapha pulls him into a hug and suddenly they are Not Letting Each Other Go. like it's tight and maybe they're both shaking a little because Badly Repressed Emotions and they're just. so unwilling to let each other go for what they feel like will be forever because they are sad and dramatic. and raphael even wonders for a second if he's like, super strengthing magnus into the hug by accident, but even when he tries to let go magnus doesn't even notice and is still hugging him tight, so he's like. okay. guess i can stay for a little longer then. and keeps hugging him
and lol i have half a mind to be like "and then raphael ends up staying because neither of them actually wants raphael to leave so what's the point" and actually i think i might be going this route for this particular hc. but of course eventually raphael does leave because you know... kids grow up and all daihdsaioj and i think that they still have some things to resolve, particularly from magnus' side? i think raphael is more in touch with him than the other way around, even if mostly we've seen him coming to magnus for help, but like... that trust is there, you know, and we didn't see a lot of the opposite
i know s3 raphael was fake anyway but like i imagine him finding out that magnus lost his magic and he had no idea or that he lost his home and being like "why didn't you ask for my help?? our help??" because you know all his other friends would have wanted to help him out too, and magnus is just. he doesn't want to be a burden. he feels like if he is, he's going to lose anyone. he needs to be there for them
and it's so much bullshit of course and raphael is pissed - not at magnus, he couldn't be mad at him, but just pissed in general. and he draws magnus in for a hug and tells him that he can always come to raphael, whenever he needs, and raphael will drop everything to help him. the clan is doing okay (especially post-valentine and impending doom and all, you know, they can take care of themselves lmao. like look of course raphael is a very involved leader but you get what i mean, they won't die if he goes help magnus with something) and he has second-in-commands he trusts anyway. and he doesn't want magnus to hide his problems for him and not come for his help and aaa
just.... rapha being like "you think i wouldn't do anything i could for you? anything to make sure you're alright?" and magnus being like "you don't have to" and raphael going, "you didn't have to do it for me either. but you did" "you don't owe me anything" "i do, but this is not about that. magnus, you're my family" and magnus tearing up because it is so immense to him to be someone's family, something he almost can't grasp
and magnus slowly learning that no, raphael doesn't need him, but that's not important because he wants magnus in his life anyway. and they can always rely on each other, no matter what, even if they aren't dependant on each other - and that is a good thing :)

Self-Promo Sunday: “A Cottage by the Sea”
Good news, shipmates!! There’s a reason I am promo-ing this fic this Sunday. I finally have a new (and rather lengthy) update for this long neglected fic ready to go tomorrow. It’s been such a while though that I felt like I should tease it a bit and put the story back in peoples’ memories - as well as post easy links to the previous chapters. To those who have been waiting, I am truly sorry. After this, there should only be one more part, more of an epilogue really, so you shouldn’t have too much more waiting in store...
(Also always, a HUGE thank you to @searchingwardrobes for the stunning fic cover art! And to @kmomof4 and the @cssns20 for patience as this story stretched out so long, and for the reblogs and recognition.)
Summary: Princess Emma has always been drawn to the shores of Misthaven, where the sea meets the sand near her parents’ castle. When an unknown boy washes up on the beach, with eyes as fathomless and blue as the waters that brought him to her, he soon becomes Emma’s best friend, her partner in crime, and her other half. But the tides give and the tides take away, and as her blue-eyed boy sails in her father’s navy and risks all in defense of those who made him family, unexpected danger and challenge will try to tear them apart, and might well show him just where he came from that day he first appeared to her from the sea…
Previous chapters here on Tumblr: Prologue Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four
Previous chapters on AO3: Prologue Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four
And, as promised, a bit of a teaser for the tomorrow’s update... ;)
“...No sooner had Emma been able to swallow hard in a throat suddenly parched with apprehension, her fingers clenched in the material of Killian’s sleeve, above all else determined she wouldn’t let him be taken from her again, when everything around them went horribly, unnaturally still. The waves, the wind, all their surroundings silently seeming to hold their breath before chaos broke loose. For one last moment, she and her lieutenant fixed their eyes on each other; wordlessly swearing to see each other on the other side, whether or not it was within their power to follow through on such a promise. Then he turned to face his sire - if one could truly be made to believe that the monstrous captain towering over them at the prow of the other ship could have had any connection to the true and honorable man Killian had become. Intending to remain at his back, to do whatever she could to help him fight and keep them afloat, Emma straightened her shoulders and stiffened her spine as they waited and watched.
Sound and fury returned to the world around them as the accursed captain reached the very helm of his ship, bringing him fully into view as his low, malevolent chuckle at their show of resolve seemed to set the waves crashing and churning once more. “Oh ho, Killian, you’ve brought your intended to our long-awaited reunion, have you? Not particularly well-advised, but she is a pretty wench. I supposed I can see why you’d be loath to leave her behind.”
Killian’s frown deepend, the muscle in his jaw working as he bit down on his anger. Those eyes that she usually likened to the brilliance of a summer sky or the blue of his beloved ocean were instead lit with the pale fire of the hottest of flames at Davy’s callous words. “Hardly,” he clipped in a low growl. “I had no intention of meeting you at all. And I’ll not have you getting anywhere near Emma.”
“Is that so?” Davy snarled, his own temper seeming to erupt at his offspring’s defiance. “We’ll just see about that!”
The waves their little boat floated upon suddenly seemed propelled forward, rising on a towering crest of water as if drawn to Davy’s hand. Skilled a sailor as Killian was, there was no steering them anywhere else when the very elements were turned against them. The air seemed to quiver just as Emma found herself doing, as they came face-to-face with the accursed being. The boards of the vessel beneath their feet groaned and creaked as the frothing sea bearing it seemed ready to dash it to kindling. The air whistled and howled, whipping her hair against her face until she was nearly blinded. And yet, she saw the horrifying shade who faced them, the dark cloud of obsession clouding eyes which might once have been clear and striking as the sons he claimed as his own. He stood taller than the average man, seeming even larger with the wild hair and wide-brimmed, ostentatiously old-fashioned hat atop his head. All his dress was from a more ornate and bygone age, and yet looked gone to ruin rather than impressive; almost mildewed, or perhaps it was a growth of some sort of moss or coral upon his apparel after so long within the sea. Beyond the visible appearance however, the aura of evil power practically radiated from his being, and Emma felt herself draw back before even realizing she had done so.
Pleased with the nightmare impression he never failed to make, Davy Jones chortled in maniacal glee. “Oh yes, I see you there, Princess. Try not to fret overmuch. No matter how brave, they always cower before me in the end.”
She wanted to contradict his words, to call back that Killian wasn’t afraid and that she believed in him, but Emma found her tongue was stuck to the roof of her mouth, speechless and unable to react other than to stare, frozen, until with one last murderous crow, Davy cackled, “You’re both in my clutches, and no hope to escape. Look your last on the world above...”

𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞: escape room 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩: minagi tsuzuru/reader 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: sfw 𝐰𝐜: 3.4k words, 3 images
𝐚𝐧: the combi of my love for this tsuzuru sr card + a certain enabler + my first time wearing handcuffs being in an escape room = the birth of this fic. it’s chaotic, but so is every escape room experience i’ve had. wtf is this fic.
One of the perks of having Tsuzuru as a boyfriend was that the two of you always found ways to have fun and go out on dates without spending a lot of money. Neither of you were big on splurging out a bunch of money anyway— not with you rather spending your allowance on necessities and Tsuzuru being the King of Part-timers™.
Watching community and college plays, having picnics, movie marathons, making dinner together, going grocery shopping, taking advantage of coupon sites, couples promos and happy hours to get great deals on things you wouldn’t normally be able to just for the ultimate discount...
It was domestic, it was homey, and it was Tsuzuru through and through; you loved every single second of it.
Which was why you were surprised when he suggested going to an escape room together.
“Those can be kind of pricey, right?” you replied, raising your voice slightly to make sure he could hear you despite the noise you were making in the kitchen. You turned the burner to high heat, scooching the veggies over to one side of the pan, melting the remaining butter in the other half.
“Oh, well, a friend gave me a 20% discount coupon. Apparently he didn’t need it anymore,” Tsuzuru’s voice was a little quiet coming from your phone’s speaker, and you quickly put down the soy sauce to adjust the volume before going back to the stove.
“I figured there was some kind of catch,” you replied with a soft chuckle as you continued stirring the veggies and sautéing the rice. “When do you wanna go? I know we’re both busy over the weekend, and that’s when we usually—“
Your hand halted its motions as soon as Tsuzuru uttered the word, “tomorrow.”
It wasn’t like you weren’t free, thankfully you only had one, albeit three hour, lecture during Tuesdays, but wasn’t he saying it a bit suddenly? It was a Monday evening, after all.
“Why tomorrow?”
Your boyfriend’s awkward laughter rang, but he remained undeterred as he explained to you his reasoning— going to an escape room would be a good way to get more writing experience, especially in terms of creating and feeling the ambience.
“Plus, not only is it cheaper if we go together, but the rates are also lower Monday to Thursday,” after a few seconds of silence on your part, he quickly added in, “and! And, we usually don’t have dates like this… so it’ll be fun, right?”
That thought process was so like Tsuzuru that you couldn’t help but smile.
Oh, the rice and veggies were already turning brown?
“You know what? I’m not even surprised,” you commented, adding and stirring in the rest of the ingredients. Ahhh, it was starting to smell heavenly, “by the way, have you had dinner yet?”
“About to. Excited to figure out what kind of curry we’re having,” a giggle escaped you upon hearing Tsuzuru’s deadpan voice, “are you almost done cooking?”
“Just about done!” after giving the rice a taste, you decided to season it with a pinch of salt and pepper, “thanks for giving me your fried rice recipe, by the way. Even though I’m the one cooking it, it feels like I’m about to eat something you made with love~”
As you were pretty much done with the kitchen, Tsuzuru’s exhale was a lot more audible to you. You could already envision the slight quiver in his tight-lipped grin and the way he would avert his eyes for a few seconds as he addressed you.
“Seriously, don’t be so cute,” he said, sounding a little exasperated, “sometimes I don’t know how to respond anymore.”
“A writer at a loss for words?” it was steadily getting difficult to keep the bubbling up amusement in check— you should probably be serving yourself dinner and accomplish your work for the night, but in the same manner it was always fun to flirt with the brunet. “When you put it that way, it makes me want to act even cuter for y—“
“Anyway!” you couldn’t hold back your laughter at his sudden interruption. Alright, that was enough for the both of you tonight.
“So are you free tomorrow?” he asked.
Well, who were you to be able to say no to that?
You completed signing the waiver the staff asked you to fill out, before turning to Tsuzuru.
“I forgot to ask, but which room are we playing? They have, like, 3 different ones here.”
Your eyes followed where Tsuzuru’s pointer finger landed— a simple but eerie poster in black and white, the three masks you could commonly see in craft stores plain and copies of one another, save for one thing. The first mask had gloved hands atop its eyeholes, the second had them covering where the ears would be, and the third had them placed over the lips.
Domain of Discernment.
“I don’t know much about it, but it’s one of the more popular ones. Apparently we’ll be held captive by some serial killer named Sire Maniac, and we’ll have one of our senses taken away,” he explained. Before he could potentially say anymore, one of the personnel went over to bring you right by the room entrance.
After giving a brief rundown of rules and some info about the room itself, she brought out an unused pair of foam earplugs and a blindfold. “Since there’s only two of you, we’ll be taking out the not being able to speak part. Both of you, choose who gets their sight or hearing removed for 50 minutes.”
You and Tsuzuru turned to look at each other, quietly discussing amongst yourselves which option would be more beneficial, coming to the conclusion that you would be the one to don the blindfold and he’d be the one with the earplugs.
“You might accidentally fall asleep if you had the blindfold,” you joked, “besides, I trust you to be able to guide me.”
Not one to be a killjoy or cheat, he plugged in the foam properly as you get your blindfold tied securely by the woman, making sure it definitely wouldn’t loosen up midway through the game.
When the both of you are within the room already, the both of you hear (well, Tsuzuru lip-reads) the woman say one more thing.
“After hand-cuffing you two and I leave the room, the timer will start. Good luck.”
… hand-cuffing?
With a sound of a click and seeing the door shutting from the distance, the both of you knew the timer would be counting down from 50 right about now.
You’re the first to speak up. You’re unsure where he’s facing right now, so you pulled your left hand knowing the pull of the metal chain would catch his attention, and you were right.
At the slight pressure on his right hand, he turned to face you with a hum leaving his mouth, and unexpectedly finding himself stupefied at the sight of you. You opened your mouth to say something, and he can excuse himself all he wanted that it was him not used to lip-reading yet, but he knew it wasn’t the truth.
He felt a little guilty, really. You both knew how flustered or embarrassed he could get around you, but how blissfully unaware you must be right now that his brain was literally mush because of your blindfolded self and how you were handcuffed to him. He, well, he never thought… no, he could never—
Time to kill that train of thought. Right now.
He should really be responding to you right now. What… what were you saying?
“You want me to describe our… surroundings?” he sighed in relief as you nodded. Okay, at least a part of him was still functioning properly. All he had to do was focus on that and not hyper focus on you.
The two of you were in a cell of sorts— barred, jail doors preventing your exit into a much larger room, which inevitably would lead to a door the both of you would escape to.
Though the jail room was significantly smaller, there were an assortment of items to sift and look through— boxes with and without locks, some papers scattered on a small desk, a lampshade that was left turned off, and a CD player were what stood out the most to him.
After relaying it to you, you pulled him again by your shared shackles as you asked him to read out what was in the papers—the first, a hint on how to figure out the number combination to unlock one of the boxes and a code decryption guide.
The second, a torn page from a “book” of either plants or poisons, based on the content and stylisation. Atropa belladonna, also known as deadly nightshade.
“Why are shade and floor highlighted though?”
Another pull on the cuffs. Another look at you— and trying not to be awkward about it as he combined his lip-reading with whatever the earplugs couldn’t block out of your voice.
“Shade? You said there was a lamp shade, right? Maybe a key or something is hidden under there?” you suggested, a pout set on your lips, “don’t know what the relevance of floor is, though.”
He didn’t have to look very far, the papers being situated on the desk beside the lampshade. It’s in his second time staring though that he realised something’s off with it. “You’re right, there’s something in the lampshade.”
When he lifted the bell-shaped cover, he’d come to find that there was no lightbulb in the first place, but a thin flashlight cleverly inserted within a vase. “If there’s a flashlight in the vase, then—“
“Shine a light on the floor!” you exclaimed, excited at the prospect of being able to move forward with the game, despite not being able to see.
Doing just that, he swished the flashlight left and right, verbally listing all the letters he could see.
“X, O, I, C, T…” you repeated, before trying to clap your hands (keyword: trying to, handcuffs say no), “the order is toxic! So the encrypt—“
“I’ll decode it ASAP,” Tsuzuru replied, immediately referring to the guide the “killer” oh so graciously left there.
“The passcode is… 420652,” he fumbled with the digits on the only 6 numbered padlocked box, before grinning, “alright, we got it!”
Another tug, and at this point he’s already aware that tug or pull on the cuff equals you having something to say.
“If they were gonna do a 420 joke, they should’ve inserted a 666 joke for the full eerie, creepy effect.”
Okay, just how was he able to lip read that perfectly? Was he just that used to the dumb jokes you made?
“I can just imagine your dream escape room— all the hints and puzzles are meme related,” the earplugs were unable to block your laugh, ringing through the room as he opened the box. A key, and a CD.
Knowing that between the two remaining boxes left, one of them needed a key so that was pretty much solved. The disc, on the other hand…
He called your name, you turning to face him based on the direction of his voice. “Since there’s a CD player and a CD, and unless I go really close I wouldn’t be able to hear anything—“
“I’ll listen carefully, no sweat!”
“I swear, if I hear the word wall another time, I will scream... and this isn’t even a horror room!”
The two of you came across your first real obstacle. Your audio just talked about poisonous vines growing on walls and other surfaces, while his box just contained another note that neither of you could decipher whatsoever. For five minutes, the two of you stood there, pondering.
Every once in a while, Tsuzuru would check the giant timer— currently displaying that 35 minutes were left.
“… honestly, just give it to me,” you suddenly spoke, Tsuzuru’s shoulders going up in shock.
“Give what?”
“The box! While we try to figure it out, I’ll use my nonexistent luck to just guess the passcode somehow,” you explained, feeling up the type of padlock it was “it’s just rolling everything around anyway until it magically opens.”
Within less than a minute, you had figured out the passcode.
“I’m—“ Tsuzuru trailed off, clearly just as shocked as you were. Your eyes probably would’ve been wide open right now.
“Eye… so this is where all my luck went,” you said, before shaking your head to refocus yourself, “okay! So inside the box is a… another key? It has buttons… car key?”
You hand the object to the brunet, who, upon taking it from you spared no second in his next actions.
“Wall,” he said out loud, pointing the car keys at the wall. With one press of a button, the wall, slowly but surely, opened to reveal another room. Though you couldn’t see it, the sound was loud enough to amaze you as well.
“Worm,” you breathed out, “pretty lit, not gonna lie.”
You wouldn’t know but the room was actually extremely dark, so not lit at all. Thank god he had a flashlight or else the handcuff + your blindfold + him not being able to lip read combo would be… particularly deadly.
The misunderstandings, he could already imagine it. Ah, well, for the writing experience.
“I don’t know what worm means, but yeah, lit.”
“Sorry,” Tsuzuru apologised as he bumped into you for the nth time.
Obstacle number two was unlike any other. It wasn’t another audio recording, neither a puzzle nor riddle.
“Ah, shit, sorry!” you shouted for the nth time, raising your voice as much as you could so Tsuzuru would be able to hear you properly.
This was getting ridiculous. You were able to figure out the meaning of an audio file after a few loops, while Tsuzuru got to work reading more clues and unlocking locks. The real problem, however, was since the room was dark and had limited space, the two of you tended to crash against one another even with what limited movement you could make.
You had to wonder— did the staff get some sort of amusement or feel any pity watching people stumble around in this room through the CCTV? It wasn’t so bad in the jail room, but this closet? storage? room gave you two a run for your money. How did other people get through this room, genuinely? Especially the bigger parties?
“… I have an idea,” Tsuzuru mentioned. You wait for him to tell you what it is, his hesitance confusing you. However, before you could have said anything, you felt his strong arms wrapped around you.
Was… was there an equivalent to a verbal keyboard smash? Even if you weren’t saying it out loud to save you the embarrassment, the fact still stood that your brain was legit going ztesxrdctijmoljhnge right now. Help—
“How does this… help?” you asked, still a little confused by his motive. He wasn’t really one for PDA, and despite the two of you being the only ones in the room the fact still stood that the escape room staff are probably required to glance at the CCTV monitors every once in a while to check up on you two.
“Since we’re… handcuffed, and there’s barely any space it’d be better to just stay together,” he explained as nonchalantly as possible, “sorry, it’s just for this room. We’ll go back to normal when we get to the last room.”
See, if your brain was working right now, you’d be able to think of a counter or a better solution— actually, if you could see right now maybe you could point out something about Tsuzuru’s face that screamed he was lying, but something about escape rooms just made your logic go brrr.
That, or you were just a simp for your own boyfriend.
… not gonna lie, the chances of it being both were pretty high.
“Makes sense. Can’t bump into each other when you’re already stuck together,” you said, already convincing yourself.
Sorry to whoever’s manning the CCTV monitor, it was their fault for handcuffing the two of you anyway.
Well, this set up wasn’t that bad. Other than, you know, getting to hug Tsuzuru, you were able to still keep doing your task while he did—
You heard the padlock unlock after your fingers pressed a certain combination of numbers. Pushing the device upwards, the cabinet doors opened as you removed the lock.
“It’s a digit push combination padlock! How are you doing this? Blindfolded?”
“I… I have guessing powers. For locks.”
“I’m considering robbing a bank or business with you now.”
“Awww, cute couple’s date idea!”
After two or three minutes of Tsuzuru doing some last minute riddle solving, the sound of jingling keys and him letting go of you let you know of one thing— you two were almost out.
With a writer compromising one half of the team, and an exceptional guesser and context clue figure-outer as the other half, you weren’t gonna lie— the last room was kind of anti-climatic to go through.
…
SIKE!
Every time the two of you ever accomplished anything, be it decrypting a message, unlocking something, or finding a hidden item the two of you still reacted to it— Tsuzuru being more on the shookt side and you being on the hype side.
With fifteen minutes to spare, only one thing was left to do— finding who Sire Maniac’s real name, and then decoding that name into number form so you could use it on the exit’s number pad lock. It was pretty obvious to you that you had to use the number equivalents of the name, but first… you needed to know the name.
“You sure you don’t want to try your luck?” Tsuzuru teased, procuring a huff out of you.
There were only two clues. The first was a letter to an A. R. Nicolas, detailing something about being thankful for a book.
Initially, the two of you thought that that A. R. Nicolas would be his real name, but clearly it was some sort of pen name based on the second clue— several torn pages from a book penned by the very same A. R. Nicolas the letter was addressed to.
It was clear— Sire Maniac and A. R. Nicolas were the same person, but what was his third identity? His real identity?
“What are the poisons on the torn pages again? Those usually have something to do with the answer,” you asked Tsuzuru. The sound of shuffling of paper entered your ears as he began listing them off.
“Ricin, amatoxin, tetradotoxin, chloropicrin, batrachotoxin… and arsenic.”
“Huh… arsenic is the only one that ends differently, lol,” you pointed out with a laugh, before it quickly died as the realisation dawned on you, “no fucking way.”
“Okay what the hell, I think you’re on to something,” Tsuzuru replied hastily, “because A. R. Nicolas, as in A. R. Nic. Arsenic.”
“Tsuzuru. Tsuzuru. Tsuzuru—“ you chanted, before laying out one last game-changer, “Sire Maniac. Is a fucking anagram. For I am Arsenic.”
With a speedy enter of the number 2773642, the two of you had achieved freedom.
“Not gonna lie, some parts of it were a little cliche, but… I had fun,” you told him, the two of you walking home together, “I felt simultaneously dumb and a genius at the same time.”
“Same to both, honestly,” Tsuzuru replied, before looking down at your hand linked with his. “Huh, haven’t you had enough of being stuck with me?”
You rolled your eyes. “I could say the same to you— didn’t you totally take advantage of us being handcuffed together? Or me being blindfolded?”
It was just a joke, but Tsuzuru’s sudden sputtering caught you off guard. Did… aha, no way, did he actually enjoy that gimmick?
“Tsu~ zu~ ru~”
“Whatever you’re thinking, that’s not it—“
“Are you sure? Because—“
“You’re misunderstanding something.”
“I’m just saying, it’s better to be honest~”
As the stoplight turned red, the two of you finally found the time to take a good look at each other. The laughter that erupted was instantaneous.
“Thanks for going out with me today,” Tsuzuru said softly, the blooming smile on his face impossible for you to not mirror.
“Thank you for inviting me,” you replied, “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
After a few seconds, the stoplight turned green, and the two of you continue making your way back home.

CONGRATULATIONS, MAL! YOU’VE BEEN ACCEPTED FOR THE ROLE OF DAMIEN WARD.
Admin Cas: At long last, our Antichrist is among us! Mal, your application left me totally enamoured by the vicious, wicked, and beautiful creature you placed before us. As you pointed out, Damien is a being of halves — half human, half divine, half animal — and yet, nothing in his life has even been done in halves. You breathed such life into him, made him so much more than his epithet or his Vice. The way you used the Prophecy that still lingers, even as it’s been fulfilled, and injected that into your future plots was just so exciting! And, I have to admit, when you mentioned the way that he tugs at his gloves as a threat, as a flex of his power — well, that just felt so DAMIEN. I can’t wait to see what you’ll do with him, and I’m beyond excited to see what ruin he wreaks on the dash! Please create and send in your account, review the information on our CHECKLIST, and follow everyone on the FOLLOW LIST. Welcome to the Holy Land!

IN CHARACTER
Character | Damien Ward
What drew you to this character? | I had Damien’s bio lingering in the back of my head since I first read it, and then Admin Rosey kindly suggested he and I might be a good fit for one another, and I sunk my teeth in. The image of eight year-old Damien standing over a body with wolves licking blood from his hands stuck in me like a fishhook. He’s half-mortal, half-divine, half-wild creature. I am reminded of classical Greek heroes, defined by transgression, made great and made beautiful by the same things that make him monstrous.
He’s in a position with so much glimmering potential on the horizon. He’s fulfilled his purpose, in a sense, and yet the world remains rebuilt beneath him. Is it enough for it to lift him up as it has? He was not built for times of peace, and here he is living in one. This can only go on so long, and how could I not adore a character surrounded in so much tantalizing possibility?
Also, I am such a sucker for the fascinating family dynamics that surround him. His own mother, who willingly took Lucifer himself into her arms, could not bear the sight of what they’d made together. Damien was made for wild, inky shadows, to be at home among bloody-mouthed beasts. And yet, when hell opened it’s maw to swallow him whole, he found family. An Antichrist who is loved, who might wrestle with his sister like a wolf-pip and turn his face upwards to face the judgement of a mother, and care what she sees. The thought must have been so utterly foreign to Damien as a child, whose mother could not stir a single response from him, for whom he could never find reason to twist his mouth into a smile. And yet he offers Azazel everything she asks for, he listens attentively to his father and learns to craft words of bright silver. It is a remarkable thing, that one could look into Damien’s wild, inky darkness and learn to love him. Perhaps the only thing stranger is that he has learned to love back.
Also, he’s evil and sexy and I love him.
What future plots do you have in mind for the character? |
THE FORTUNATE SON | The family dynamics surrounding Damien are stunning, fire-forged and battle-tested, yet razor thin cracks grow along their obsidian surface. They are bound so tightly together, love each other with terrifying ferocity, yet even the closest of bonds can snap when struck from the right angle. They are all caught up in tantalizing possibility, but the crack most likely to become a fissure runs in a sharp, direct line straight from Damien’s ambition to Judas’.
Damine knows what his pseudo father is: The Great Betrayer. Damien is not blind to the fact that he is a dangerous man to share power with, even an invisible crown. But he took Damien in when he was a hollow and wild thing. The first creature whose eyes Damien found recognition in was a wolf. Judas was the second. Damien has killed with them both. Sons rising up against their fathers is one of the oldest stories in the world. Damien has already lived it, once. In dark, seething moments, he wonders if he may have to live it again. Is Judas, like the wolf, not a creature of his nature? Is placing his trust in his hands not akin to placing his head in the mouth of the beast? And yet... neither has failed him thus far.
(And yet, he thinks with a secret tenderness he knows may curse him, he loves them both.)
I can see either Damien or Judas turning against the other should the right leverage be applied to their deep yet delicate bond. A war between them would be a terror wrought upon the world and upon themselves. Conflict between them would be devastating and delectable, both to the characters and the world around them. It might seem nearly inevitable, two ambitions like theirs poised so keenly for conflict, and yet I just as easily see them united should they find another common enemy. Damien’s sights may turn towards Judas should he find himself unable to resist the ache in his jaw to destroy, yet should he be given something else tantalizing to gnash his teeth against, Damien may always find himself choosing the latter.
SEVEN DEVILS | Outside of his found family, the Vices, each carefully hand-picked for their own strains of terror, are Damien’s closest allies upon this earth. Though even then, loyalty, let alone trust, among demons is a dangerously fickle thing. Even the best of the creatures of hell are a ravenous, power-hungry lot, and Damien is not nearly foolish enough to think none of them might hunger for the power he wields as their self-appointed leader. Raum is the only among them he can truly trust, she who he plucked from obscurity and gave grand purpose, she who is the closest being to him not called family. Yet he chose each of his Vices for a reason, and each of them has unique value to him. I see him trying to craft an individual loyalty with each of them, tethering them all one-by-one to his ambitions.
This is not to say I can’t see him failing in this lofty task, no matter what he might think of his silver-tongue and the bone-chilling power of his mere presence. Damien is perfectly capable of overestimating the power of his own thrall, or of being too caught up in the affairs of his family to hear the whispers passed between them, or countless other faults that may make him vulnerable to those in his inner circle. I would love to explore what may happen should one or more of the vices turn against him, their united front fracturing. Damien believes that he is the one who raised them high, who granted them their lofty titles, and that he has every right to cast them away should they fail him, and I can all too easily see such a move back-firing spectacularly.
The seven of them create a complex web of loyalties, and as much as Damien prefers to think himself the clever spider at its centre, he is just as capable of being caught up in it as any of the others.
LIVING IN THE AFTERMATH | Perhaps more of an internal development than an interpersonal one, but I’m deeply interested in exploring how the events since Lucifer was vanquished continue to affect Damien. He never found a father in the Morningstar. The word family will forever evoke Judas, Abbadon, and Azazel before the woman who birthed him and the man who sired him, but the Devil’s blood still runs in his veins. So much of what he is, as acerbic a thought as it may be, is owed to the circumstances of his birth.
Seizing hell and sending Lucifer careening upward, outcast from the realm he once ruled, was the first step to ridding the Antichrist of his father’s shadow, but it would prove to be far from the last. Three hundred years longer, Damien had to wait with a pernicious, buzzing anxiety, for the last of the Morningstar’s light to finally fade from his eyes, and that too would not bring the end of his influence. Though he did not stand in the way of the search for the bodies of God and his Morningstar, speaking of the affair left his tongue dry and bitter in his mouth. Their time had come and gone. All that was left of them was dust. And besides, if mortal and demonkind so desperately sought what was left of the Morningstar, all they had to do was turn their eyes to his progeny. Lucifer’s blood thrums through his veins, yet they seek his crumbled remains instead? It defies Damien’s understanding.
The Heretics and their precious Sanctus Terra (a name that to this day he can’t help but feel a petty disdain for) only exacerbated his frustration. Going to war with them was delightful, yes, crushing their ranks between his teeth brought a dark kind of satisfaction he hadn’t felt since he’d seized the Morningstar and ripped him from his throne. Damien could have waged war for centuries, never tiring of the taste of mortal blood, of flexing his power against their generals. But too many others were not so inclined - and it was with disdain (and a fair bit of pressure from those around him) that he agreed to set the war aside to establish the Holy Land. His beloved Azazel being made Moon - though were it up to him, he’d have given her the whole piece of land to her to do with what she pleased - at least served as something of a consolation prize. Even on this so-called neutral ground, the power of his family has made itself known and respected.
Still, his resentment for the place has not entirely faded, and while he’s willing to at least tolerate most of what it has to offer, some of its residents make that ire come bubbling up to the surface. Namely, Estienne, who in all their lofty arrogance and sly demeanour has come to be emblematic of everything Damien hates about the place. Estienne is but a pale imitation, thinking a touch of plague-given divinity makes them his equal, who seems to seek a dynasty with his own sister not unlike the one Damien has with his. It’s petty, Damien’s disdain, yet powerful. I see Estienne managing to push all of Damien’s buttons, and as much as Damien would like to forget about them entirely, they remain a thorn in his side, with more influence over him than he would ever care to admit.
CUT FROM THE CLOTH OF FATE | Damien was born swathed in prophecy. Destiny’s shadow has hung over him and lingered behind him for the entirety of his existence. The Antichrist, born to eat the world. And he’s done it, hasn’t he? He has torn the Morningstar from his throne and bit out his throat, he has brought Hell itself to the surface of the earth. Civilizations have fallen to his wrath, cities crumbled under his touch, the world as it was once known torn to pieces and turned to dust. Yet what is destruction wrought when revival follows it like a shadow?
I see Damien at something of a crossroads. In one sense, his prophecy is fulfilled; he took the world between his teeth and crushed an age to it’s bitter end. Half the world is his in all but name (though Judas’ shadow lurks around every corner, he too crafting himself an invisible throne), but contentedness can not and will not come easily to Damien. Something stirs within him, something yet to be named, perhaps even recognized, but its roots have already taken root in the core of him. Restlessness stirs in his hounds, power festering from underuse, and a quiet, dull ache grows in the set of his jaw. He was made to destroy, not to rule, but he cannot deny that there is something delectable about the word ‘king’.
I see him in quiet, solitary moments turning the prophecy over in his mind. What is one meant to do, once he’s swallowed the world? There are moments he regrets letting it regrow so quickly, giving him so little time to bask in the ruination of his making, and there are moments when he wonders if his prophecy remains unfulfilled, still dark and beckoning. Every moment spent with Nerissa pulls it from him, makes his hands itch to rip off his gloves and feel ruin blossom under his touch once more, this time with no rebirth to follow. There are times still, when he thinks he ought to tear apart the prophecy itself with his teeth, render it as meaningless and obsolete as the ashes of the Old Testament. His father was a king. Perhaps it is time to claim a different kind of birthright.
I can see Damien turning his sights on The Holy Land and Caelum (and maybe - if those lands have somehow fallen to his wrath - Infernum itself) hungry for destruction at whatever cost it may come. Just as easily, I can see him looking to his invisible throne and the crown of shadows growing on his brow, and decide that it is time to make them something more tangible. I’m not sure Damien himself knows exactly what he wants, but I know it would be utterly delightful to see which direction the story and the other characters may push him in, and find out.
Are you comfortable with killing off your character? | Yes. But if Damien is going down, he is going down in one hell of a blaze of glory.
IN DEPTH
Driving Character Motivation | The dark, beautiful thing about Damien is that if he were asked this question, I’m not sure he could give you a solid answer. Oh of course he wouldn’t say as much, his lips would twist up in something not quite a smile, and from his tongue he’d create something lovely and argent, perhaps ask what the earthquake’s driving motivation is to turn a city to dust, or what drives a pack of wolves to tear the stag limb from limb. It would be long after his shadow had ceased to fall upon you, after your bones had warmed from his chill, that you would realize he answered only with questions. That is, if he answered at all, and did not instead slit your throat for the presumption.
Damien is, above all else, inevitable. The trajectory of his life has forever been defined by what he is more than who. The line between them blurs beyond recognition. Damien is a force of nature, a wild animal, and a fatherless son all in the same breath. He is a creature of ferocious instinct, who knew that he thirsted for the sweet, metallic taste of blood long before he knew why.
All this is to say, Damien’s motivation is a fractured thing. One might call the thing driving his heart to beat and his hands to rend destiny or instinct or hunger, but in a word, I would call it ambition. Damien was born with grand purpose, with a dark, insatiable thirst. He was going to kill the world. Now he’s done just that, in a sense, chewed up the old world and spit it back out, only to watch his pseudo-father carefully tend to the remains. Something new has blossomed from Damien’s destruction and perhaps, were he anyone else, that would be enough.
Which path to carve forward remains unknown, even to Damien himself, but one thing remains certain: this is not where his story ends. He did not overthrow the Morningstar to live an idle eternity, to bask in even the chaotic peace of Infernum. He balances on the line between ‘prince’ and ‘king’ and yet is permitted to openly call himself neither. He looks to the north and sees wide swathes of earth that do not yet know his destructive trust. All the while, something inside him grows, inky shadows spreading where he stands. So many highs he has yet to reach, so many ways to wield his power against the world.
What does Damien want? The answer swirls like a storm building inside him, shapeless and impatient. If he really must name it, I believe he would choose a singular, all-encompassing word: MORE.
Character Traits |
Vicious: Full of vice. Is there a word that more completely sums up all that the Antichrist is? The word may conjure the traditional vices, but it is also a word for the wild, fierce cruelty Damien is capable of embodying so completely. He is vicious in that he is wicked, but also in that if he proclaimed he was raised by wolves one might believe him. Damien is a sharp, dangerous thing, and he bears each vice with pride, but none more than his self-appointed title: wrath.
Volatile: In certain environments, such as his childhood, one could be easily be mistaken in thinking the Antichrist scarce feels anything at all, cold and distant as he might be. The truth is something else entirely. It might not show on his face until the ice inside him has whirled into a blizzard, but without his gloves Damien’s power would act on its own accord. Damien feels deeply, quickly, and to those who know him well enough can seem almost childish in the changes of his mood. Especially now, when the path before him is so unclear, and Damien finds himself all but itching for his next direction.
Aloof: Cold is the first word that many think of when they encounter Damien. He walks into a room like the winter chill blowing in. And how fitting it is, that the distant, aloof child of the Morningstar could make even the fires of hell seem cold. Damien is a singular creature; he prefers to stand apart from most (with few exceptions made, for family and to an extent, the Vices). And how could he not, the only half-demon known to walk the Earth?
Eloquent: Damien came of age under the wing of Judas, the silver-tongued betrayer. He has learned to weave words from the best teacher one could desire. Yet, the Antichrist himself is not a creature of lies by his nature. He may employ them should they be needed, but Damien prefers those who look upon him to know exactly who he is. He barely spoke a word the first eight years of his life, silent as a shadow. Now, every word is chosen carefully, the beauty of his words a sharp contrast between the dread he invokes.
Passionate: How irritating he finds it, that language so often describes passion as a fire. Damien is a creature of ice and shadow. Passion, for Damien, is a blizzard, whiting-out everything in its path, a glacier, slow-moving and unstoppable, or the nocturnal beasts coming out of hiding at the fall of night, inevitable as it is fearsome. When Damien cares, he cares deeply, and with terrifying ferocity.
Dauntless: What does the Antichrist know of fear? Damien has never met an obstacle he did not hesitate to rise to meet, not even the Devil himself. As a child he looked down into the fiery mouth of hell and he found himself a home in its fires. Damien is bold, welcoming a challenge, particularly in battle, and does not do well with idleness.
In-Character Para Sample |
There’s something wonderfully fascinating about watching the effects of his presence before the affected even knows Damien lingers close by. Even creatures of hell can react like prey animals under the unseen gaze of a wolf, a mysterious chill creeping up their spines, hairs standing on end as they twist their necks in search of the source of their unease. The corner of Damien’s mouth ticks upward at the sight. It’s a rare thing in these languid days of peace, that he gets a chance to flex this particular muscle, lingering in the shadows of Infernum’s ever-ostentatious decor in a dark corner of a busy room. It will not last, the effect of Damien’s presence can only go unnoticed for so long. Sooner or later, the cold will seep deeply enough into someone’s skin to dismiss as a figment of imagination, and he will be given away. He’s only managed to escape notice so far because slipped in from a side-door, treading quickly and silently, and took a vantage point half-covered by a heavy velvet curtain, and, far more significantly, because the room’s attention is fixed on none other than Judas himself.
It’s a rare gift that Damien’s pseudo-father possesses, that silver-tongued charm that makes one believe that no matter what you may have heard about ‘The Great Betrayer,’ this time, you can trust him. Damien understands the mechanics of it, taught from Judas himself, exactly how to weave your phrases, the rise and fall that leaves a room full of creatures as wild as demons hanging on every word. Still, he has so few moments where he gets to watch Judas in his element while unobserved himself, watching with a hint of fondness as he sways opinions word by word. Typically, he would delegate one of the Vices, or perhaps someone below them, depending on the importance of matters, to keep an eye on his parental figure in his stead. Like Judas before him, Damien calls attention to himself by simply walking into a room. The dynasty that Judas, Abbadon, Azazel, and himself have carved out for themselves may not call themselves royalty, but the subjects of Infernum address them as if they wore crowns and carried sceptres all the same. Their power - much like what Judas displays now - is nameless, but it is palpable.
As much as he enjoys the light thrill of watching from the shadows as Judas works his political machinations, he did not come here just to watch. No, Damien has matters to discuss with his father of sorts, but the opportunity to glimpse him working his schemes unnoticed is not something he was about to turn down, even if the moment might be brief. Unfortunately, there’s nothing especially interesting about the conversation, mere political minutiae Damien rarely has the patience for. Judas reaches a pause and Damien watches a nearby demon shift uncomfortably on her feet, and Damien’s time to linger has come to an end.
“Judas,” he says, stepping out of his shadow-y corner. He cannot pretend it doesn’t bring him some satisfaction, the way the energy of the room so instantly changes. Eyes flit between Judas and himself, unsure where this goes next. There are precious few, who could get away with such an interruption, Damien one of them. He could wait, but why would he? He, too, wears an invisible crown. He, too, demands the attention of all that look upon. Sometimes, he thinks Judas ought to remember that fact. “My apologies for the interruption,” he says coolly. His expression betrays nothing, Judas likely the only person in the room who realizes that Damien has nothing especially urgent to say. Still, the room has come to a standstill, everyone else willing to wait on their two kings. Damien stands still as a sculpture, and watches with silent satisfaction the entire room stills with him, letting the long moment pass.
“A moment of your time?”

Headcanons |
Though he adores the infernal terror of Azazel’s hellhounds, Damien has his own hunting dogs - a pack of wild wolves that came to him almost unbidden. He dotes on them, a reminder of the first wild creatures whose eyes he ever saw himself reflected in, but they are from domesticated. Though they may seem docile under Damien’s touch - lounging at the foot of his imaginary throne - but they are wild, vicious things, far quicker to show their anger than their master. The first sign of Damien’s displeasure is often not a hint in his body language, or even a look in his eye, but the low growl of the wolves at his side.
Serpents and birds of prey flock to Damien as hell, seeming to crawl out of the woodwork when he’s around. He’s open to their presence, but doesn’t dote on him the way he does his wolves. Still, it isn’t unheard of to see Damien with a hawk perched on his shoulder, or with some venomous snake casually curling itself around his ankle.
Usually, Damien doesn’t mind his lack of wings. It sets him apart from his demonic kin, a reminder to everyone around him that even in the realm of Infernum, he is something else, otherworldly no matter where he might make his abode. That only changes when - for whatever reason - he is in need of fast transport, and must rely on some other demon’s wings. He will not, under any circumstance, admit this out loud, and does what he must with all the animalistic grace that eternally characterizes his movement, but it is - to be frank - rather embarrassing.
Sometimes, as a threat, Damien will tug on the fingers of his gloves.

strategist-scientia replied to your post “I know Carina is bringing Malex into the light and I am infinitely...”
Kinda scared now tbh because Carina said "Yes" when someone suggested that Michael is probably reminded of Jesse Manes's hand in causing the deaths of his people whenever he looks at Alex.
I hope it’s ok that I use your response as the jumping-off point for some meta, because I’ve been wanting to write this since i saw Carina’s tweets, and the inevitable Malex panicking that ensued. There’s a couple tweets about Michael’s headspace that she made that I want to get into, as I consider where Michael’s character will go next season and what that might mean for Malex.
Now, my immediate response to this is: Yes?? Good?? Carina is saying Michael is going to have a character arc next season, and this is a good thing. Characters need arcs, and frankly, I’ve been frustrated that most of his “arc” this season has just been taking care of other people. Equally frankly, I’m glad that this will be the arc, because Michael is completely traumatized right now. He not only lost his family right after finding them, but he’s witnessed the genocide of his race. I’m glad the show is going to deal with that instead of sweep it under the rug. That’s what Michael s a character deserves. And I know it sucks to put queer characters through trauma and misery and suffering, because it seems like that’s the only thing they ever get to experience in narratives. But in a well-written story, you can’t shield your characters from the world and have nothing bad ever happen to them. There need to be low points in order for there to be development, as long as there are high points.
The other tweet that people have been worrying about is this one, about how Michael will react to Alex and how their relationship will changed, based on the fact that Alex’s family is responsible for literally all of the suffering of Michael’s:
This is where people start worrying that Malex will crash and burn, or that Michael will blame Alex for what happened even though it’s not actually Alex’s fault.
So, first of all, I’m going to point out the obvious: it doesn’t sound like English is this person’s first language (which isn’t a dig at them, but just the observation that there may be a language/communication barrier here). Carina’s “yes” is vague af, and twitter is a really shitty medium to sort-of-but-not-really hint at character motivations and what’s coming.
Moving on from that, my thoughts are that Michael isn’t going to outright blame Alex - after all, Alex didn’t do anything. In fact, Alex has literally shut down project Shepard and blackmailed his father to protect Michael, and if Michael knows about project shepard he knows this. Logically, he understands this. But I do think that Michael will pull away from Alex - just as he’ll pull away from Max, Isobel, Maria, and even Liz. He’s going to need space, and he might get self-destructive in all his relationships, not just the one with Alex, because he’s going to blame himself for what happened. It’ll be difficult to watch, but I think that Alex, who himself has extensive experience sabotaging his own relationship as a result of fear and trauma, will understand where he’s coming from and try to help.
I do also think Michael will have a hard time with Alex specifically. Again, it’s not that he’ll blame Alex, because he clearly didn’t blame Alex for his hand, if his desire to rekindle a relationship ten years later is any indication. But Alex will be a living, breathing reminder of the Manes legacy, which has taken literally everything from Michael, starting with his hand and ending with his family. It’s going to get complicated, because just last episode, Michael was telling Max that he believes that there’s no place for him here (on Earth) - something that Jesse made him believe, and something of which his hand serves as a reminder. And now he has even more proof, painful, heartrending, visceral proof, that there is no place for him on this planet, in the sense that humanity as a whole does not accept him for what he is. And the Manes legacy is largely responsible for this.
But. The irony is that while the Manes family has destroyed his family, his life, his home, and his hope, Alex has been all of those things for him. Alex offered him a home when he had none. Alex told him “you’re my family.” Alex, as Michael said in 1x11, made him believe there’s is a place for him here on earth. Home can be a person, and Alex has been his.
And I think Michael will realize that. If Liz can get over the fact that Max covered up her sister’s murder and was responsible for her family suffering hate crimes for ten years, then Michael can get over Alex having a legacy that he has completely and utterly rejected. But it will take time, because trauma isn’t rational, and because Alex did enlist in the military and become a “Manes man” before he ultimately chose Michael. So Michael will have to reconcile those two things - what Alex’s family took from him, and the fact that Alex himself gave back all those things to him. Honestly, I think it’s going to be the culmination of the arc that they’ve been planting the seeds of this season - that home can be a person. Michael Vlamis also hinted that Micheal probably won’t be deciding whether to leave the planet this season, so perhaps this will be a decision he’ll have to make next season. Alex will give him the spaceship piece and set him free, understanding that Michael has never felt like he belongs on Earth and that now he feels like he belongs even less, and that his family is responsible for it. And Michael will have to realize that despite Alex’s legacy, which he has outright rejected, Alex is his home.
It’ll be a long journey, but I honestly think it’ll be fine in the end. Think of it this way: ships, just like characters, need arcs. I know we all say we’d happily watch an entire season of them just cuddling in bed, but come on. None of us actually would. We’d like an actual story. That’s why we tuned in. We want to see characters facing challenges and overcoming them. And yes, just like with queer characters, we don’t want queer pairings to just keep suffering endlessly. But we do want them to have actual, meaningful storylines. And what Carina is hinting at above sounds like an actual storyline. It’s Michael working through legitimate trauma instead of sweeping it under the rug, and Alex learning to live with the legacy of his family. If done well, this is a good storyline. The alternative is either no storyline, or contrived relationship drama, and no one wants that. Remember when, on The Vampire Diaries, Damon and Elena finally got together and the writers had to come up with a dozen reasons to break them up (the sire bond, Katherine possessing Elena, Damon temporarily dying and Elena erasing her memories of him and about a dozen other “plots’)? We really, really don’t want that. We want an actual arc.
Of course, how much you believe Carina and the writers will do justice to this arc depends on how much you trust them to actually meaningfully write it, and that’s up to each viewer to decide on their own. Based on my own personal experience, I think it’ll be fine, because whatever the various flaws of season 1 of Roswell (and they definitely exist), the emotional beats have rung true to me. I understand why characters behave the way they do, their fears, their traumas, and their progress (with some exceptions). So, I think we’ll be fine.
Part of the reason I’m so confident is because every other time we panicked because of a tweet, a promo, or a promo photo, we turned out to be pretty wrong to panic. Let’s recap:
1x09 This is the OG throwback episode, and when Shiri leaked that photo of Michael and Maria naked in the desert, we panicked. We thought Michael and Maria would have a full-blown romance and Michael would leave behind Alex and forget about him, or that Maria would sleep with Michael while knowing about Alex, or any number of worst-case scenarios.
What actually happened: Alex ended things, with finality. Previously, he’d walked away - and we’re led to believe he’s done this multiple times, which means that he’s also come back multiple times, because to walk away again, he had to come back first. But now, for the first time ever in ten years, probably, he said “we’re definitely over.” The love of Michael’s life broke his fucking heart by making him believe they could never have a future together, and Michael’s response was literal suicidal ideation. That line about “I’m just wishing a meteor would strike me down and end my suffering”? That’s suicidal ideation, y’all.
So yeah, he hooked up with Maria because he needed comfort and a connection with someone - but one that he was 100% certain wouldn’t get romantically complicated and messy. He picked Maria because he had a connection with her but thought there wasn’t a chance in the world that she’d catch feelings.
And then Alex came back to him and he took him back and bared his fucking soul and revealed every single one of his deepest secrets.
1x11 This was the UFO emporium re-opening episode, and everybody panicked that Michael and Maria would talk and kiss and/or hook up in the place of Malex’s first kiss. Come on, guys. Like, I get panic, but this was a bit much.
What happened instead: Michael misses Maria, who was pretty much his only friend, and tries to get back onto the same page they were (flirty banter that meant nothing), but which is pretty hard to do once you’ve slept together. Michael believes he and Alex are completely over, and....he skips the Emporium reopening (probably because it’s too painful). Then, Maria, the person he pretty much considers his only friend, gets roofied and possessed by an alien serial killer. So yeah, he’s concerned, and he watches over her, because Michael Guerin is, at heart, a protector who takes care of people, and frankly, if he wasn’t worried about Maria, I’d like him slightly less as a person. Maria drunkenly indicates potential feelings for him, which he shows absolutely no indication of actually reciprocating (he looks concerned and frustrated at best).
1x12 We all thought Malex was going to break up in this episode, despite the fact that they were already broken up and Michael thought they were “over.” We knew there was a tear-inducing Malex moment and we listened to Tyler’s song and I saw no end of posts going around saying Malex was going to break up.
What happened instead: Alex confessed his love for Michael, called Michael family, stayed by him in the face of literal certain death, and physically and emotionally supported him during a moment of devastating heartbreak.
So yes, I get the worry. I especially get the worry because apparently The Magicians fucked over their queer viewers just last night. Believe me, I understand, and I’m not a person to have faith easily. I’ve been through Supernatural fandom and the great Destiel queerbait that was season 8. I’ve been through Sherlock fandom and The Johnlock Conspiracy of seasons 3/4. I am intimately familiar with the nonsense shows pull on queer viewers, and I understand the context in which queer viewers are wary of trusting and investing emotionally. I’m a queer viewer as well, and I get it. I really do. But my personal experience of Roswell has been one of the fandom panicking (because we’ve been burned so many times), followed by us getting literal fanfiction on our screens, with actual love confessions and words like “cosmic” and all the tropes. So in this particular case, I choose to trust, because thus far, I think the show has done well by Malex for the most part, and because so far, almost all of our worries have turned out to be for nothing. And I’m also excited for Malex to have meaningful storylines and things to work through.
That’s my two cents. Thanks for letting me ramble. Feel free to reblog if you think we could stand to spread some positivity.

Self Promo Fic Meme!
Rules: Post the first line of your last 10 published fics, then tag 10 people.
Tagged by @oodlyenough! I...didn’t even realize I’ve written more than 10 Overwatch fics since I normally spend many months on a single story. Cool!
(Also my opening lines aren’t very dramatic, I’m not one for flowery word vomit that goes on for pages and pages before a plot starts)
I’m gonna go in reverse order because 6 of these are part of the same series lmao, and it’ll be kind of weird describing them backwards.
~
1. Etched in Skin and Bone - Prequel to my vampire AU fic “Pretty People Never Lie, Vampires Never Die”. A young Amélie tries to cope with killing Gerard in a fit of bloodlust and runs away to be raised by her sire, a cruel old vampiress living in 11th century Ireland. (past Amélie/Gerard, 5k words)
In the dark bedroom, something was stirring.
~
2. Summoner - The start of my Dragon AU, where Fareeha is a knight sent to “slay” a dragoness in the badlands. (Pharah/Symmetra, 12k. Explicit content)
It’s the highest honor.
~
3. Destroyer - One of my most popular stories, a fluff fic with a pinch of angst starring D.Va the Destroyer as she grapples with her feelings for a human knight. (D.Va/Brigitte, background Pharah/Symmetra. 13k)
In another life she had ruled the earth.
~
4. Crusader - A followup to Destroyer, Hana joins Brigitte and Reinhardt on a crusade/noble quest to learn selflessness and discipline and tamp down some of her draconic instincts. She meets a few other familiar faces in this fic, some friendly, some less so. (D.Va/Brigitte, McCree/Sombra, 31k)
"'Cause it's the end of the line of the final journey, enemies leaving the past! And it's American troops and the German army, joining together at last!'"
(yes, I open the fic with Brig and Reinhardt singing along to The Final Battle by Sabaton LOL)
~
5. Perfect Organism - A short sci-fi story about two newly-sentient lab experiments. Also serves as an origin story for their appearance in Crusader. (Amélie & Moira, no ships, 4k).
Its birth was heralded by screams.
~
6. Tonight We’re Ghosts - A continuation of my vampire AU. While out drinking late one night, McCree encounters a mysterious woman at the bar. (McCree/Sombra, 5k)
Sometimes life happened in funny ways.
~
7. Remember Who We Are - A short character study where I elaborate a bit on my personal ideas of Widowmaker considering herself a separate person from Amélie, and having conflicted feelings toward the “other” woman. (No ships, unless you count a touch of obviously impossible Widow/Amélie lol, 1.5k)
She spent most evenings simply staring into nothingness.
~
8. The Shadow of His Wings - Set more than a decade after the events of Crusader. Amélie and Moira have unleashed chaos upon the world, and there’s only one creature who can hope to reverse the destruction. Plays heavily on the Heroes of the Storm canon. Lots of universe-hopping in this one, since this particular character, like Deathwing, lives in a different franchise. (D.Va/Brigitte, McCree/Sombra, background Pharah/Symmetra and Tracer/Emily. 34k)
Deathwing was a loathsome creature in life.
~
9. Reptilian Wiles - A dragoness raids a town to add to her electronics hoard. A rogue vigilante cowboy tries to stop her. They end up finding common ground. (McCree/Sombra, 5k)
Dragons had always been a nuisance to humanity.
~
10. Stone Butch - Another one of my most popular fics, and one of my personal favorites. True to her competitive nature, Hana gets into an impromptu bid war at an art auction for a statue of a lady knight. That evening, she awakens to find a hulking, beautiful knightess come alive in her room. (D.Va/Brigitte, 39k)
“An art auction? Seriously?”
~~
Tagging the writers I know, @tiredangelaziegler, @thebustystclair, @annalyticgames, @angelic-petty ...uh....I don’t know who else is actively posting fic these days...if you wanna be tagged just reply and I’ll add you to the list so you can say you were tagged !

A Simple Theory
As the greatly anticipated release of the first issue of Heroes in Crises approaches, I would like to throw my hat in the ring with a few ideas and theories.
Now, before I go any further, a disclaimer: I do not follow any of Harley Quinn’s storylines, nor did I read Cyborg’s solo run. Therefore, despite my best attempts to research the characters involved, there’s a good possibility I missed an important clue.
Also, a warning for potential spoilers might be in order.
That being said, let’s dive right in, shall we?
First off, the “Marked Six” as I call them.
Due to solicits for the coming months, it’s safe to say that Kyle Rayner, Cyborg, and Harley Quinn are safe. So that narrows it down to Tim Drake, Booster Gold, or Roy Harper. However, I think the statistics given in DC Nation #4 are bit of a red herring.
On the surface, the odds do not appear to be in Roy’s favor. He was given a 5-1 chance of dying in HiC. His send off in Green Arrow and RHATO were quite ominous. It would be the obvious play. Bnd he’s been put through the wringer quite a bit already throughout his character’s history.
Roy’s battled addiction, been abandoned by his father figure and mentor, unknowingly sired a child then said child was cruelly kept from him, watched his first love Donna Troy die, had his child was kidnapped by a human trafficking ring, been shot five times in the chest (a wound that earned him a get out of jail free card from Deathstroke), and had his throat slit. Then, as if that weren’t enough, writer’s cut off his arm, callously killed his daughter, and plunged him back into addiction.
If Tom King kills off Roy Harper, I just… I don’t think there are words for it.
Booster Gold. He’s had an interesting run lately. Popping up in multiple titles. His odds are listed as 10-1, and I do think it’s likely he’s one of the two that will die. Some have said he’s safe because he’s been accused of committing the murders, but the two aren’t mutually exclusive. I think Booster is innocent, and his desire to be a hero will be what leads to him being the second major fatality in the story.
Timothy Jackson Drake. Tim. Tim. Tim. I’m going to miss you. But then again, I haven’t seen the real you since Flashpoint.
Yes. Despite being the long shot of these three with 25-1 odds, I think Timmy will definitely perish in HiC and his will be the first shocking death. How can I say such a thing? We haven’t seen hide or hair of him since Detective Comics #981. Nor is there any hint of his coming back in any future issues. His Rebirth appearances have been limited to one title. Meaning to remove him from the board again would not impact any ongoing storylines. Not to mention Tom King is all about torturing Batman right now.
What’s that you say? “They already killed Tim once. They won’t do it again.” The promo material continues to espouse the idea that the DC universe will be thoroughly shaken as a result of this series. How better to do that than to kill the someone everyone thinks is safe? The person they want you to believe is safe?
So who did it? If not Harley Quinn or Booster Gold, who is responsible?
Wally West.
“How DARE you?!” you gasp, clutching your chest in horror.
According to DC Nation #2: King did confirm that… heroes will change radically, and the DC Universe will never be the same.
The results of the Flash War left Wally thoroughly shaken. He’s experiencing flashes of a life that no longer exists. He was willing to do anything to reunite with his family. Wally is in pain. People in pain do illogical, irrational things. Sometimes those things lead to people getting hurt. Or killed.
I have two solid reasons for this outlandish accusation. First, the cover art of the first issue.
Wally is covering his mouth. Hand to mouth gestures are often the result of revealing too much information, or letting a lie slip, or come from the need for reassurance. Because Wally is the only one demonstrating this body language I suspect it falls more in the category of deceit than a self-comforting reflex.
Second, the cryptic line from Mr. King: You can’t have a Crisis without a dead Flash. There’s more than one way to kill a character. It would be the twist no one saw coming; if this Flash dies in the sense of becoming a fallen hero.
From the coming months’ solicits, we’ve learned that something’s gone awry with the AI and computer systems at the Sanctuary. Which is where I believe Cyborg plays a part in the story. His mother box has the ability to access and override non-sentient machines. Infiltrating, the AI would be a walk in the park for him. I think he play the role of an accomplice of sorts to Wally.
Before I go, I would like to put one last offering on the table. One that’s a bit… out there. I think Dr. Manhattan might be involved somehow.
Hear me out. Several of the key players in HiC have already drawn his attention or have the potential to pose a threat to him. What better way to remove those who could stand in your way than to take them out when they are vulnerable? And if they all happen to be at same place at the same time, even better.
Tim Drake was sequestered outside of space and time by Dr. Manhattan. Why?
Because he was “reconnecting threads that should not be reconnected.” He was “so loved, so deeply intertwined. It became crucial that (Dr. Manhattan aided by Mr. Oz) take (Tim) off the field.” At his last sighting, Tim was heading off to investigate the existence of diverging timelines. Doesn’t sound like his experience in that extradimensional prison really posed as much of a deterrent. Perhaps Dr. Manhattan has decided Tim needs removed permanently to keep him making those connections.
Kyle Rayner has tangled with a mysterious entity that was most likely Dr. Manhattan.
While attempting to resurrect the Blue Lantern corps, a “presence” interfered and fractured the White Lantern ring. An “intruder” of power beyond anything they’ve ever encountered. His previous ability to master the seven rings and wield the White Lantern ring has probably put him on Dr. Manhattan’s watch list.
Cyborg’s Element X laden mother box grants him a deep connection to the multiverse. As a result of the Flash War, Hypertime has been shut off to the Flashes. However, Cyborg was able to access it through his mother box during the Metal event.
He may now be the only one who can. This definitely makes him a potential threat to the Doc.
As for Booster Gold, the writers have stated plain as day that he’s at risk because of Dr. Manhattan: Time travel has become more deadly, what with Dr. Manhattan and the ongoing events of Doomsday Clock. Buddy, there’s only room in the DC Universe for one person playing god with time. This also shows that the doctor is on their minds when it comes to the events of the this story.
“This is nonsense! Dr. Manhattan has nothing to do Heroes in Crisis. You’ve gone off the deep end.”
Probably. I’m most likely completely way off in left field. But it never hurts to throw things against the wall and see what sticks. Who knows? Maybe I’m right: Wally makes a deal with the devil (Dr Manhattan) to get his family back. He beseeches his old pal Cyborg to hack the AI system of Sanctuary as part of the master plan. But it all goes terribly wrong when Tim Drake discovers what he’s up to. Booster and Harley are the natural suspects because Wally would never do such a thing. Harley is the first one to connect the dots because she thinks outside the box. Booster tries to make things right by going back in time, but Dr Manhattan stops him and puts an end to his time travel for good.
What do you think? Who do you think is guilty and who won’t survive?

hope this helps
Hello! I’m relatively new to Merlin BBC and only watched the first season thus. In your opinion, should I watch the whole show or rely on the fandom for content?
(PS you’re one of my fav blogs and I love scrolling through when I get the chance)
AWE THANK YOUUUU
i think it's worth it to watch the whole show for proper context, but honestly, i physically can't rewatch it cause it makes me sad - fanfic captures their characters so much better and handles their storylines so much better - it will 10000% make you happier than the show
if you don't wanna watch the show, i LOVE watching compilations on youtube, especially merthur

reaction post typed while watching SPN 12x15 “Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell”
I HAVE A LOT TO SAY ABOUT THIS. including (but not limited to) smart!Dean, headcanons about demon reproduction, Destiel, children wishing death on an enemy, Sam’s pink eyeshadow, fandom theory, politics, bears, and the pronunciation of Cas’ name
05:15
i’m sort of pre-offended by this because cas wasn’t in the promo
why would you put dean in glasses if cas isn’t there to appreciate it huh???
(that said, davy perez wrote “stuck in the middle (with you)” so he clearly gets it)
-
05:20
this bear video reminds me of that girl screaming at the bear who’s eating her kayak
“BEEEAAAARRRRR”
wow ignore the youtube comments. much salt very negative
i thought the whole thing was hilarious
-
05:24
“will you marry me”

-
05:29
can someone tell me why the winchesters are referring to the bmol as hobbits
sam’s got mike down as “frodo”
i guess it’s to do with the accents. idk i always thought of middle earth as a new zealand thing rather than “an actor from britain” thing
-
05:32
sam: “the computer told me”
dean understands the fucking computers okay, don’t give me this “simplify it for lil deanie weenie” shit, you motherfuckers
who built an EMF meter out of an old walkman in season 1, huh
who fixes his car and, i assume, fixes the wiring too, huh
who uses the internet to find porn and probably download a lot illegally and therefore needs to know how computers work, huh
who has evaded law enforcement while using their software to find cases, huh
whO HAD A BEST FRIEND NAMED CHARLIE BRADBURY WHO KNEW HOW COMPUTERS WORKED, HUH
TELL ME SHE DIDN’T TALK ABOUT COMPUTERS AND GEEKY SHIT NON-STOP AND DEAN WAS ABLE TO KEEP UP
HUH
HUH
CASH ME OUSSIDE HOWBOW DAH
seriously i’mma fucking fight you if you say dean doesn’t understand how a computer program could send cases to his phone
-
05:34
sam’s still wearing pink eyeshadow
headcanon: it’s a fasHION CHOICE QUIT JUDGING ME DEAN MEN CAN WEAR MAKEUP IF THEY WANT
-
05:35
i love that dean went straight from “baby wipes in the car” to “i’m using the fancy shampoo”
wow when this asshole decides to delve into self-care he goes all the fucking way
sidenote: then a zoom in on john’s baseball bat, ie. symbol of BRUTAL MASCULINITY which dean left behind to use the fancy shampoo
-
05:38
OH MY GOD IS SAM TALKING TO MARY WHILE DEAN TALKS TO CAS
IDK WHY BUT THAT’S REALLY CUTE
for a second i forgot dean and cas aren’t actually married BUT THEY TOTALLY ARE
-
05:40
I’mma cry cas still puts the fbi badge upside down
oh god i fucking love him so much
i don’t understand why anyone would dislike him
i really, truly don’t
he is the purest more wholesome character and I’M LITERALLY VIBRATING RIGHT NOW I’M SO HAPPY TO SEE HIM
I’VE MISSED HIM
OH GOD IF I’M THIS DELIGHTED TO SEE HIM I CAN’T IMAGINE WHAT DEAN FEELS WHEN HE SEES HIM
honestly if i told dean right now how happy i am to see cas, would he roll his eyes, or would he duck his head and smile ?
...option one? probably. option two: that’s jensen about misha
-
05:44
“agent solange”
OKAY THERE IS ONLY ONE OPTION HERE AND THAT IS THAT CAS IS A HUGE APPRECIATOR OF BLACK CULTURE AND MUSIC AND/OR THE KNOWLES FAMILY
I’M SO PROUD OF HIM
-
05:46
see this?
he-heyyyy!! herb nelson who runs this joint
the deadly duo need to fucking pay attention, this is how you get a random side character to be interesting and not just rattle off boring by-the-book introductions
-
05:48
THE QUEEN’S HEAD ON AN ALIEN
I FEEL LIKE THIS ROOM WAS DECORATED TO MAKE MISHA BREAK CHARACTER AND LAUGH
I ALSO SEE “LIZARD PEOPLE” AND ILLUMINATI TRIANGLES
-
05:51
herb: “most sheeple can’t handle the truth”
me at age 12
-
herb: “i’m woke”
i’m ENJOYING THIS SO MUCH
herb: “palm pilot, more like a tracking device”
and this was written before all the stuff about samsung tvs recently. that kind of shit never stops and it’s been going for forever. what is it about people and wanting to spy on other people
i just googled “samsung” and apparently the south korean president was just removed in correlation, one hour ago (disclaimer: i only read the headline, i’ll read the rest later)
oh boy, what a time to be alive (/sarcasm)
(but actually tho. something big happens in south korea and we know about it by typing a single word, that’s cool)
-
05:57
cas just taking things and walking away
imagine him shoplifting in plain sight and security just being like “???”
-
05:58
dean’s undercut seems fresh
i wonder if he shaves the back of his head himself or he goes to a barber every few weeks or if sam does it
-
06:00
“much handsomer brother”
at least we can say that, for all dean’s insecurities, at least he knows he’s hot as shit
(but also that could easily be overcompensation, and he thinks sam is more attractive. oh god what a mess he is)
-
06:02
if i were gwen and two giant dudes came to the door i’d probably ask for them to stick around while i wait for someone else to COME TO MY FUCKING RESCUE
jeez who lets two men into their house just because they have badges and well-balanced faces
-
06:04
yeah you go gwen!!!
don’t need nobody telling you bullshit
-
06:06
this scene of dean saving gwen from the hellhound seems reminiscent of that time he got torn to shreds by hellhounds
the room setup seemed similar at least
i wonder if that makes her a dean parallel character, or if it’s meant to remind the audience of dean’s history with hellhounds
-
06:09
lucifer to crowley: “hm. kinky.”
this show does this amazing thing where it gets as close as fucking possible to being the gayest thing on earth with every character being canonically and violently queer without actually being gay or queer or canon or count as representation at all
i don’t think queerbaiting has ever, ever been done to this level in history
sometimes i wonder what all the heterostraight dudebros (TM) think when they see this kinda stuff
i personally know a giant black dude in his late 30s who watches this show and 100% of ALL of this stuff goes right over his head. he watches for the brothers fighting monsters, and doesn’t understand cas. his wife Gets It and she’s a feminist who Cares About Things, and even though she doesn’t analyse the show, she understands why i ship destiel and feel the need to write novels about their relationship
my only other experience meeting heterostraight dudebros in my life (holy shit how lucky am i) was at a convention a few years back, kim rhodes was up on stage and there were these two sweaty, snotty dicks in front of me, buttcracks showing, booing every time anyone dared to mention female characters or cas or destiel. like i’m p sure they were just there because kim rhodes is hot and has boobs and talked about guns one time (i mean, not that that isn’t a valid reason to watch the show or enjoy it.)
but i found it interesting to see the difference between them (the minority) and the rest of the people in the room (flamboyantly queer mostly-women with hearts full of love for cas)
(on that note, why does cas seem to be the dividing entity between pure wholesome fans and the aggressive hate-speech kind of fans? is there some kind of thing about cas that makes you love him if you have a good heart or something idk)
(although that’s not strictly true because kim rhodes said jody would use cas as a human shield because he’s sorta useless, and kim was still one of the coolest and kindest people i’ve ever met)
-
06:29
i love the thought of fetus gwen wanting a) a hello kitty backpack, or b) the death of an enemy
...........i was joking but typing this immediately makes me think of that time i was like 7 or 8 or 9 years old and took extracurricular maths at a lady’s house after school, and she was nice, and she gave us juice and biscuits. except i hated the fact i had to do EXTRA MATHS so, so SO MUCH that i used to wish she’d drop dead and i wouldn’t have to do it any more.
and then she died of cancer. and her kids (my age) were left motherless and i’ve never really gotten over that
i try and remind myself that death doesn’t work like that but how the fuck /?? why
i really hope i don’t have death note psychic powers
but after that experience i’ve never once wished anything bad on anyone. if i do by accident i immediately un-wish it just in case. come to think of it, i think that experience alone turned me into a more tolerant, empathetic person
rather than wish bad things on bad people, i wish that they learn how to understand the people they’re hurting and work to reconcile their wrongdoings
but dear god i still feel bad
(edit: not that i’m saying my maths tutor was a bad person, i’m talking about like... nazis. punching nazis is still a means to an end though)
-
06:39
quietly wondering if dean ever wanted a hello kitty backpack
OH NO
TINY FETUS DEAN LOOKING AT NICE PRETTY THINGS AND JUST KNOWING HE CAN’T HAVE THEM SO NOT EVEN TRYING TO HOPE
wow it’s way too easy for me to hurt my own feelings
(see also: Raising Hell in a Hotel)

06:42
regarding the theft of demon babies
given we’ve never heard about demons breeding (as far as i know), i’ve long held this headcanon/theory that demons (who were originally angels, corrupted by torture) bred by sealing deals. that’s their motivation for making demon deals: they make a deal, they collect a soul at the end of 10 years, take it to hell, make it torture other souls, and eventually a new demon is sired/born. and the new demon is the sire demon’s baby, in a way. they make deals as a form of reproduction.
which doesn’t fit with the idea that demons have actual small crying babies
so... i guess those would be made if two possessed people copulated? but if angel babies are a huge deal in this universe, wouldn’t demon babies be some other bizarre plot twist? or is this demon baby stealing thing meant to be a throwaway line????
someone explain me a thing
-
06:48
OKAY SCRATCH THAT THE BABIES ARE FOR EATING
all right we’re all good
i still think demons breed by making deals
..........but actually though, what happens if two possessed people made a baby (not that i want to know in canon, because consent issues)
also where the fuck are demons getting babies to eat
is there a black market baby eating demon ring
is this a common occurrence
did a dingo eat her baby or was it demon interference
are there legends or competitions about the most daring baby thefts
I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS
-
06:54
dean either likes posies or koalas
or both
someone please make cute fanart of dean happily cuddling a koala, lying down in a field of pink/bisexual-flag-coloured posies
please
i need it
because of reasons
-
07:00
i like how it’s the white demon who’s grovelling and the black demon’s just chill and talking to lucifer like an equal
that’s cool
-
07:02
dean’s gentle “take care of her”
IT’S OKAY SAM I THOUGHT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT GWEN TOO
sometimes i forget dean’s an asshole who cares more about his car than anything else
-
07:03
i still want that episode, where the impala is either a beautiful badass 45-year-old black woman with tattoos and scars, or a foxy grey-haired dude, either of whom could seduce dean in 0.3 seconds
-
07:06
mmmmmmmmmmmm i loooove how this angel says cas’ name
“kas’tyl”
mmmmmmmmm say it again
i love how everyone always says it differently but it’s always beautiful
(my own name has been pronounced 300 different ways and it always sounds like me somehow, and i’ll still respond. everything from “al-may-oze” to “ee-lumz” to “el muss”. my nickname Elmie is a derivative of Almaas because of mispronunciation followed by an autocorrect error and i love it anyway)
-
07:11
kelvin: “all the paaw’r of heav’n behand you”
dear god i love how this angel talks ;A; i’m swooning
-
07:13
kelvin: “don’t get me wrong, i love earth, it’s quirky. it smells like hay. but it’s not home, is it?”
OOOH BOY MORE CAS CHOOSING HIS HOME ARC
YEAH GIVE ME SOME OF THIS
but please let him choose dean
(or don’t, and watch dean die inside some more. that’d be fun) (/sarcasm)
-
07:19
JOSHUA
FOR YEARS I’VE BEEN WONDERING ABOUT HIM
ALL HAIL DAVY PEREZ FOR INCLUDING SO MANY ACTORS/CHARACTERS OF COLOUR
I’M SO RELIEVED SOMEONE ON THE WRITING TEAM HAS THEIR HEAD SCREWED ON RIGHT
-
07:22
cas is so beautiful ;~;
-
07:23
white demon: “only thing i care about is Making Hell Great Again”
i think it’s fair to say that anything akin to those words in that order inspire a fireball of R A G E inside me
-
07:25
fuck
i saw it coming
is anyone making a death toll for characters of colour this season
of all the things i’m enjoying from this episode, the aspect of “as soon as a black dude sees a white dude as an equal and wants something in return for his services to their shared society, he deserves punishment” is not one of them
not cool
i mean the white dude dies too, which turns it into a political “trump fucks with minorities first and the white people are next and somehow they think they’re being blessed” but STILL
i guess the fact there’s other surviving characters of colour this episode makes it less shitty
-
07:28
DEAN IN GLASSES
i’m still salty but AAHHH
-
07:33
eyyyyyyy dean said thanks to crowley for saving cas
good
-
07:33
crowley: “maybe i’ve rubbed off all over you”
aaaaaaaaaaand we’re back to the gay
mm
i hope people never forget that they canonically banged, as problematic that relationship is/was
-
07:35
they. look. so. damn. good. in. glasses.
-
07:36
dean looks like he either belongs in the x files or scooby doo
-
07:38
oooo the carrrrrrrrrrrr
dean’s gonna be pissed
-
07:43
oh shit the music changed very very subtly as lucifer hits crowley’s face
i suddenly get the feeling crowley’s gonna die
he just got his redemption and NOW HE’S GONNA DIE ISN’T HE
I HATED HIM BUT
LIKE
NOW I DON’T WANT HIM TO DIE
-
07:45
oh good
okay
man that was a weird emotion
now i’m back to hating crowley again
i guess it’s fun to hate the baddies
-
07:47
it’s really nice to have a phone call between dean and cas but see both of them
weird how rare that is
-
07:48
DEAN BEING ABLE TO JUDGE CAS’ EMOTIONS THROUGH HIS VOICE AND THEN GETTING WORRIED
-
07:49
sam: “no... it’s.. uh.... mick davies”
oh so THAT’S why gwen told sam her story about lying to her boyfriend. i was thinking it was odd sam was the one hearing that, since dean usually gets an earful of people’s sob stories that Mean Things In His Own Life
so her story made sam tell dean the truth
gwen did so much this episode!!! affecting the season-long plot and saving herself and shit!!! yee
-
07:51
THIS PINK EYESHADOW THOUGH
-
07:56
wow that was a lot of stuff for one episode
good!!!! very good
9.5/10, could be improved by a bechdel test pass
i don’t really have much to add, since i said it all while watching, which is why this took me nearly 3 hours to watch (over 3 hours to finish this post)
but yep. good solid episode, i wish more were like this
so damn good to see cas!!! but the fact he still doesn’t feel like he has a home makes me sad
DEAN AND SAM REALLY NEED TO INCLUDE HIM IN MORE THINGS AND SMOTHER HIM IN HUGS AND GIVE HIM GIFTS AND STUFF
i think it’s because he’s still riding the border between brother and not-brother and doesn’t really know where he stands
poor baby
dean, you gotta cowboy up and tell your angel you love him back already
aaaah
also shoutout to director nina lopez-corrado for that super neat shot of the hellhound, seen through the glasses on the ground
#12x15#somewhere between heaven and hell#season 12#Davy Perez#spn spoilers#Elmie watches things#post of postines#this one is LOOOOONG#but i really enjoyed typing it

SH 306: A Window Into An Empty Room
This was another fantastic episode; as I have said before Season 3 is proving to be the best season so far, I have really liked (if not loved) every single episode and have only had very few small issues. We finally got drunk Alec but not in the way we expected, we won but at what cost? Maryse and Luke have some fantastic chemistry and I hope we see more scenes with them in the future. I love seeing Magnus and Biscuit team up, they have such a wonderful friendship. And I said last week, it’s all downhill from here!
I love that Simon and Kyle are testing out the mark; Simon need to be confident in having some ability to control or anticipate it activating, which we now know won’t activate if he evades the attack. It helps Simon, Kyle and the Praetor have confidence that they can control it and therefore reduce the risk of it hurting anyone else.
Simon brings up having lunch with Maia which Kyle quickly evades; as I have said multiple times, I have not read the books but have read a lot of fanfic and seen a lot on twitter so I know that Jordan is Maia’s ex and the one who turned her. I feel bad for Simon because he seems to really like Kyle and they could be great friends, but knowing about Kyle and Maia’s history you know there is going to be a lot of upset and friction when that all comes out (which happens in 3x07 by the look of the promo). I also feel sympathy for Maia because she has heard about ‘Kyle’ from Simon and how he has helped him, so that built up image of him is going to shatter when she learns who he really is. Plus we know just how much she has been affected by what he did; soured their relationship with possessive behaviour, presumable stalked her because he attacked her after she had been on a date, turned her against her will, and then abandoned her to deal with it on her own. I predict that I am going to want to give Maia a million hugs next episode.
Heidi is waiting for Simon in his apartment (stalker alert!) and drops the bomb about him being her sire due to his blood being on her lips when she died; I have to give massive props to Tessa for her portrayal, not only making Heidi seem creepy, but also desperate, delusional and vulnerable. She has been around vampires for several years and has probably built up this fantasy in her head that she would have this amazing bond and relationship with her sire, especially because of her family issues, so it is understandable that she has become fixated on that; that there is someone who will love her and be bonded to forever.
Simon is understandable freaked; he thought she was dead and he is not prepared to be a sire, he has only been a vampire himself for a little over two months plus he didn’t turn her willingly or knowingly. He has a lot of his own issues to deal with right now and doesn’t feel capable of helping someone else, practically a stranger, through theirs. Plus she is an un-dead physical reminder of one of his biggest mistakes he is spooked by her and what she represents, his loss of control.
When Simon tries to suggest she go to Raphael she becomes upset and agitated, I loved her delivery of the line ‘Your blood runs through my veins, you don’t get to just turn your back on me like I’m some stranger’, you can tell how much rejection from him would affect her. She has already experienced abandonment from her biological family and cannot face rejection from her sire, especially when she has pegged so much (her happiness) on him and their perceived relationship.
I absolutely loved the lighting for the Malec scene, it was so beautiful and gold (hinting at a future wedding? Those gold sheets weren’t an accident remember). Magnus is pleasantly surprised with the delicious French toast Alec has made, he visibly hesitated one the first mouthful and no wonder after the stew disaster of 3x03; at least Alec can cook breakfast right? It is the most important meal of the day after all.
I’m glad I wasn’t drinking anything when Alec said ‘Maybe you should save the spatula I used for your little box’ because I would have spat it all over the floor; I giggled madly at the return of salty Alec. As much as his insecurities hurt I cannot help but laugh when he is being salty and petty, it reminds me of Season 1 Alec; it’s like his default setting whenever he’s hurt or annoyed and needing just spark a conversation.
Magnus welcomes conversation about his mementos because he doesn’t want Alec to bottle it up and suffer in silence; he would rather they talked it through than it become a rift that drives them apart. Alec says it’s his issue because it’s him who need to come to terms with the contents of the box and what it means for their future; he feels that it is something he has to deal with on his own because it is his insecurities that are making it hard for him to deal with it. He believes that as he ages he will become a burden to Magnus, that as he grows old their feelings for each other (more so Magnus’ feelings for him) may change and that he will become an obligation and a burden.
‘There is no universe where you would ever be a burden’ and I am crying; Magnus knows that his love for Alec will not change not matter how much Alec’s appearance may change, he loves Alec for who he is as a person, not for his looks or physical capability. Plus, Magnus has probably been with someone and watched them age before so he can be certain that his feelings won’t change as Alec does. Alec is not so sure, his lack of self worth is making him fear that as he ages Magnus will no longer love him; all he can see is himself, aged and feeble, next to Magnus who is still young and beautiful. He cannot visage Magnus staying with him at that point, he fears that Magnus will no longer desire him and leave him; or will stay with him out of obligation.
Magnus then suggests that Alec might be having a hard time processing because it is his first relationship; he makes the point that every relationship is complicated and he may be less daunted if he had, had at least one other relationship. He thinks that Alec may be less daunted by their relationship issues if he had been in a relationship before them. If he had experienced the difficulties and complexities that come with every relationship he may have been able to deal with their issues better. Magnus himself has a lot of relationship experience, so whenever they have an issue he can come at it from a place of knowledge and deal with it relatively calmly; whereas Alec’s just trusts his gut and ‘wings’ it. So you can understand where Magnus is coming from but I don’t necessarily agree with him because the immortality is such a big issue that even if you had been in a previous relationship it is still going to be a huge thing to process and deal with.
Alec, understandably, reacts badly; with sarcasm and anger. To him it sounds condescending and that Magnus is suggesting he should go have other relationships so that he can deal with their issues better. Alec is not overly daunted by their standard relationship issues because he knows that relationships take effort and people have issues; it is their future, the immortality that he is struggling with. He has so many fears about what their future will look like that it is hard for him to process that, realise that worrying about it will not stop it and they should enjoy every moment they have. He also believes that no amount of previous relationship experience would have made him better equip to deal with it. I just hope that it doesn’t take another life or death situation for him to realise that nothing is certain and to live in the moment instead of brooding on possible futures.
Alec finally bursts with ‘I’m not a child Magnus’, to him Magnus’ remarks sounded condensing, implying that his lack of experience was why he was reacting they way he is; implying that he is overreacting. Magnus snaps back ‘Then stop acting like one’ and that physically hurts because his immediate regret is enough to tell you that he didn’t mean it at all; he was just frustrated with the direction the argument was taking and that he couldn’t get his point across properly. They both failed to get their points across and only succeeded in upsetting each other. It is important that they talk about this issue but they both need to approach it a little more calmly and openly, Alec needs to lay out exactly why he is having an issue with it and Magnus needs to listen and reassure him.
Alec walked away because he was hurt by Magnus’ remark; it is the first time that Magnus has really said something that played into Alec’s insecurities about his lack of experience even if it was unintentional. Alec needed space and in the moment it was probably the best thing to do to stop it from escalating any further; they both need time to cool down and then come back to the issue later. Plus, even thought Magnus seems to want to apologise there was really no good way to talk themselves back out of that situation and the hole they had dug in the moment.
I really like that Alec confided in Izzy and is asking for advice; it shows how much he has progressed since Season 1 when he was very reluctant to open up about his feelings. He knows that talking about it will help him sort out his own thoughts but also getting an outside opinion may help him re-evaluate the situation.
However, Izzy is unable to offer any advice because she admits that part of her attraction to Downworlders was that those issues stopped it getting too serious. I really like that she has really thought about her previous relationships and putting a lot of thought into what she really wants. She does tell him that his relationship with Magnus is real and that if anyone can make it work they can; she has watched their relationship grow from the very beginning and knows the connection they have. She can see the love they share and knows that they will fight for each other, in the end their feelings will conquer their issues.
Their conversation is interrupted by a Shadowhunter trying to deny Maryse entrance to the Institute with Underhill fight her corner. It is confirmation that Maryse has been deruned and is no longer part of the Shadowhunter community; she tries to reassure Alec and Izzy that she is adjusting to her new life but it is obvious that she is struggling.
Clary tells Luke that she cannot find any information on the demon that attacked her in the archives and that she wants to tell people about it in an effort to get answers; she knows that this demon is a huge danger to them, it killed Ithuriel and anything that powerful needs to be dealt with quickly. Luke stops her; he doesn’t want her to get in trouble for using the wish knowing that the Clave will react badly once they find out the truth. We find out that Clary is under the impression that Jace is in the Silent City getting treatment.
We find out that he definitely is not in the next scene; Lilith tells him to bring her the last disciple (she already has 32). She then address him in a way that implies that Jace’s true consciousness is aware of what is happening but doesn’t have autonomy and is being forced to watch what’s happening, not being able to do anything to stop it. If that is the case you cannot help but feel a lot of sympathy for Jace, he is a prisoner in his own body; watching himself posses mundanes and do the bidding of a demon. He is going to be in a bad way once he is free of her control.
We also get confirmation that Lilith is going all out; she tells him that he will return to his friends dead and his world on fire at Jonathan’s hands. She is not pulling any punches and is going to destroy Jace’s world in revenge, making him live through her pain multiple times over. Anna is amazing, her delivery is so awesome, it gives you chills.
Lilith then kisses Jace and the red magic that transfers when Jace possesses mundanes passes between them. So it is safe to assume to that she imbues him with her magic, her power, which he then passes to the mundanes which is why she can feel it when they die (as seen with Tim). It was cool to realise who all that was happening but in my opinion the kiss was more full on and drawn out more than it needed to be; I was literally asking it to stop. Just those first few seconds, the magic transference and lips connecting a bit would have been enough; we didn’t need it to go on like it did, even if it was a wide shot.
Poor Simon only seeing the best in people think that Raphael turned Heidi to give her a life back because one of his clan killed her; poor innocent, wonderful Simon. Maia makes him realise that when he turned he had people there to help him through and Heidi doesn’t, she is alone and is obviously not coping very well. She tells him that it’s hard when the person who made you abandons you; she knows from personal experience just how hard it is to cope with your new life when you are left to figure it out and fend for yourself.
Simon, realising Heidi’s side of the situation, tells her she’s right; he knows that he was lucky to have people who loved him to help him and acknowledging that not everyone has that. He realises that he cannot turn his back on Heidi, he doesn’t want her to suffer because of him and wants to help her adjust to her new life.
Maryse tells Izzy that Max is doing better in LA, it’s good to know that he is recovering from Jonathan’s attack but I assume that we are not going to see him for a while; I just hope that when we do see him he has followed in his mother’s footsteps and apologises to Magnus for his behaviour at the party in 2x08; yes I know he’s a child but he needs to acknowledge that his behaviour towards his brother’s partner was not acceptable (I’m still bitter ok).
Izzy prompt Maryse to talk truthfully about how she is dealing with her new life, ‘Mama, we said no more secrets, you don’t have to hide how you feel’. I absolutely melt when Izzy calls her Mama, and I’m not even sure why, it’s just so soft. Izzy wants to maintain this new honesty between them, to continue this new, healthier and more loving relationship between them. She can tell that Maryse is hurting and doesn’t want her to suffer in silence.
Maryse reveals that she feels lost, her whole life she has been a Shadowhunter, dedicated her life to the Clave; now it has all been ripped away from her. Her purpose, her career is all gone; it’s like she has lost her anchor, she doesn’t know who she is anymore. She isn’t a Shadowhunter, all her runes are gone, and she has no idea how to lead a mundane life; she is drifting between two worlds and not knowing where she fits into it.
Izzy is visibly upset, that could have been her fate in Season 1 if not for Magnus being her lawyer, and Clary bringing the Mortal Cup back; she hates to see her mother this way. Maryse has always been strong and sure, but now she is vulnerable and trying to redefine who she is. Izzy reassures her that she is still strong, brave and beautiful; and that she isn’t alone, she has four kids who love her.
Maryse asks to meet Charlie, she saw how brightly Izzy smiled when he text her; she told Izzy to fight for love and wants to see her happy. She knows that anyone who can make Izzy smile like that is special and she wants to be supportive from the beginning.
Ollie and Luke discuss trying to locate one of the Owl targets in order to lead them to the Owl and its master. Ollie seems to be having issues with Sam; Luke tells her to make sure Sam knows that she is the most important thing in her life. This pulls at my heartstrings because he is looking at a picture of himself, Clary and Jocelyn; he knows that he didn’t make Jocelyn feel as important in his life as she was and regrets the time they lost because of his dedication to his job. Which may also be why in the past few episodes we have seen him really make the point to Clary how important she is; he doesn’t want to lose her too and needs to make sure she knows how important she is to him.
Jace is interrupted from his search for a virtuous mundane by Alec who is ‘out taking a walk’; it is clear that the argument with Magnus is really weighing on his mind and he is really trying to process everything. Jace tells him that he has already completed his treatment and is clear for duty; when he tries to ask Alec about his walk he says ‘forget about me, I’m glad you’re feeling better’. I know that we cannot blame Jace for not pushing because he is not in his right mind; but it is really distressing and annoying that Alec always puts himself and his feelings on the back-burner with Jace. He always brushes off his problems, Jace is his parabatai and he should feel able to confide in him it upsets me that he doesn’t feel he is able to do that.
Back at the Institute we get solid confirmation that the elixir has worked because Jace brushes Clary off completely; I have to give Dom props for his acting with Kat, there really was no affection in his gaze or body language, a complete change from previous episodes, a very good performance.
Simon arrives at an old abandoned factory believing that he is meeting Raphael, instead he gets Heidi who is playing his music again and has a romantic table set up. She tells him what Raphael did to her, and again it becomes clear that she has pinned everything on him; during her torture it was the thought of him that kept her going. She tells him that his hesitancy to hurt her at the bleeder den was the first time anyone had shown any type of care towards her; it makes you sympathise with her. For someone who has never had anyone to care for her it is understandable that she would latch onto the first person who showed her any.
He tells her that he is there for her, he hates the part he played in her situation and doesn’t want to make it worse by abandoning her, especially after what Raphael did to her; she really does only have him at this point. He pulls away when she tries to kiss him telling her he has a girlfriend; he wants to be there for her but needs her to understand that it’s not in a romantic way. Everyone gets nervous when she asks what his girlfriend’s name is, you can tell she does not have good intentions in mind; Simon quickly leaves.
Magnus, not recognising the demon that attacked Clary, taps into the energy signature it left behind and realises that it is the same one that corrupted the ley line; they are chasing the same demon. His quickly sends a fire message to a contact that may be able to help them. Clary hesitates when she mentions Jace and I melt when Magnus calls her Biscuit, I adore their friendship. She tells him about Jace’s strange behaviour, she is scared that his treatment may have affected him in other ways; after everything they have been through together she doesn’t want to lose him and this afternoon has shown her what that would look like.
Magnus tells her that sometimes people just need space and time, he knows from his own troubles with Alec that sometimes people need time to themselves before they can open up to others. He receives a message; Brother Zachariah is willing to meet them that night.
Simon is panicking as a result of his visit with Heidi and has informed Kyle of the situation who wants them to go into hiding. Maia refuses, she has work and is not going to run and hide; she is not going to let Heidi interrupt their lives. Simon is clear scared by Heidi’s demeanour (who can blame him) and he could smell fresh blood while he was there (which would have been the person she had swinging from the ceiling); he knows that Heidi likes being a vampire, is not afraid to kill and doesn’t want to underestimate her, especially if it puts Maia in danger.
Maia tells him that if Heidi comes for her she’ll be sorry; Maia is capable of defending herself and wants to reassure Simon that he doesn’t need to be scared. She is touched by his concern but is not willing to hide or disrupt her life because of a vampire who can’t take no for an answer.
At the Hunter’s Moon Maryse is worried about embarrassing her children because other Shadowhunters are gossiping about her and she doesn’t want it to affect them; she doesn’t want their reputations to be compromised due to her excommunication. She knows how hard they have worked to gain respect and their positions at the Institute and doesn’t want her situation to jeopardise any of that. She hopes that her new life and what other people think about her doesn’t affect how they see her; she has tried really hard to change herself to become a better person, especially for her children, and doesn’t want that to be compromised by other people.
Alec and Izzy reassure her that no matter she is their mother and they stand by her; they need her to know that they will always be there and love her. They know that she regrets the actions that lead to her excommunication and that she is making changes to herself to better herself and unlearn years of prejudice. They love her and are not going to turn their back on her now; they will be there to support her as she navigates her new life and will continue to provide love and support.
Maryse says that the silver lining is that she will get to spend more time with them; she has always loved her children but it has been overshadowed by her duties and devotion to the Clave. Now that she is free of that she can spend her time as she wishes, she can dedicate more time to her children and be a bigger part of their lives. I love that she asks after Magnus, it shows just how far she has come since Season 1 when she could barely stand the sight of him; now she has accepted him into her family and her life, it’s beautiful to see and I hope we get some more interactions between the two of them.
Alec and Jace are surprised that Izzy’s new boyfriend is a mundane as her past lovers have all been Downworlders and I love Maryse’s proud ‘he’s a doctor’; it is so well delivered, I also love her line ‘Oh, Isabelle, he is handsome’ it makes me giggle and yes Maryse, yes he is. Then I proceed to shout ‘No’ at the screen when Charlie has a glowing golden aura which signifies that he is virtuous and is a viable candidate for Lilith.
Alec receives a text from Magnus saying that he is busy with a client, so he cannot make it; Alec excuses himself to go to the bar and we know exactly where this is heading, he is gonna get drunk. We have been longing for drunk Alec since Todd first hinted it but unfortunately it is not the happy, flirty Alec we were hoping for; it’s a bitter, sad Alec (we won but at what cost?!). I also wonder if he may feel a little guilty for getting drunk because he assumed Magnus was blowing him off when he learns that Magnus was actually chasing an important lead with Clary. Yes, you could make the point that why didn’t Magnus just tell him he was with Clary; but Clary probably told Magnus that she hadn’t told anyone else about his demon and is putting her trust in him which he would not want to betray. Plus there would have been nothing that Alec could have done to help them, Magnus did not want to pull him away from time with his family or make him fret about a situation he could do nothing to help with.
I love that Underhill refers to Magnus as Alec’s better half; we found out that Underhill and Magnus will meet at some point, and I am curious how it is going to play out. Will he be respectful and kind as he has been with Alec, or will he be a bit of a Magnus fan (think Lydia)? It will be interesting to see them interact. Alec’s face when he says Magnus is ‘Busy’ absolutely kills me; I paused it for one of my screenshots and spent five minutes laughing at his expression.
I love the little wave shared between Izzy and Simon, it is adorable and I really like their friendship; Maia tells him to go see his friends. Simon, however, is unwilling to leave Maia’s side in fear of Heidi showing up; he doesn’t want to let his guard down until he knows for sure that Maia is going to be safe. I love Maia so much, she doesn’t need his protection but she acknowledges how much Heidi has spooked him and isn’t going to upset him by pressuring him to leave her side. I love her line ‘You should try blinking, you’re starting to freak people out’; it helps lighten their mood and help Simon relax a little. I love their relationship so much.
Luke appears at the Lightwood table to talk to Maryse, reassuring her that he isn’t here to rub her excommunication in her face; he would never make anyone feel belittled or humiliated, especially when he knows just how difficult their situation is, he isn’t spiteful. He tells her that he understands what she is going through and how difficult it is to adjust, he had to go through the same adjustment after he turned; he knows how lost she is feeling and how daunting it is to have to find a new life and reinvent yourself. He promises her that her is there for her if she needs help adjusting to her new life; he had to figure out his new life with a very limited support system (pretty much just Jocelyn I think) and doesn’t want her to go through that too.
Maryse knows that she acted shamefully towards Luke in the past and clearly regrets it, she is trying to make amends for her past behaviour but it pleasantly surprised with his open gesture of support. She says that this is an opportunity for a new beginning, a chance to be a better person; she wants to change and acknowledges her past faults, now that she is away from the Clave and the toxic affect it had on her life she can start fresh.
They reminisce about the Accords Ball in Idris 20 years ago, Luke says that she looks just as lovely now as she did back then; Maryse is clearly surprised by the compliment and Luke seems a little bashful too. I adore this scene and their flirty behaviour towards the end; I love their chemistry, cannot wait for more scenes between them and I definitely ship them, they both deserve more love in their lives (even if it does start out more platonic then develops into romantic). Some people may say that it is too soon after Jocelyn who only died about 6 weeks ago, which may be true but storyline wise so much has happened since then that it seems so much longer. Plus, they are probably not going to jump straight into a romantic relationship, Luke is still mourning and Maryse is recently divorced, but it will be lovely to see them get to know each other all over again and watch their connection develop over time. Think slow burn, like Sizzy.
Clary asks Magnus is he’s ok, she can tell that he is not his usual self and something is bothering him; she knows that she has been focused on her own problems but makes sure he knows that she is there for him too. I know that Jace is under Lilith’s influence right now but for future reference, Jace take notes from your girlfriend on how to be there for your friends, not just focussing on your own problems all the time (yes, I’m still bitter that Alec never confides in him and Jace doesn’t open a conversation for Alec).
Magnus tells her that he and Alec had a bad fight, said things they didn’t mean; he knows that their argument got out of hand and they both became agitated too quickly. Clary says ‘I’m sorry, but there is nothing you two can’t work through’; I love this parallel to the scene between Alec and Izzy. Clary, like Izzy, has seen their relationship develop and seen how strong they have become; she knows that they love each other so much and they will work through their issues together as they always do.
SPOILERS FOR NON-BOOK READERS
We meet Brother Zachariah; he is an important character to the book fans before he was a brother he was known as Jem Carstairs, Will Herondale’s Parabatai, it will be interesting to see how they incorporate him and his story into the plot in future now they have introduced him. Also, I wonder if he may come up in a conversation between Alec and Magnus because Magnus’ friend Tessa is a warlock who fell in love with both Jem and Will, then later married Will; they stayed together for 60 years until he died. So it could come up between them because Magnus knows someone who loved, married and outlived a Shadowhunter.
END OF SPOILERS
It will be interesting to learn why Zachariah does not look like the other Brothers and I hope that we do find out at some point. He gives them some texts that may contain information on the demon they are looking for, but he says that the Botherhood cannot know he helped them; which proves that he must consider Magnus a good friend for him to go against the Brothers in order to help him, I would love some more back story at some point besides just that they both were close with Will Herondale. Also, once Jace is himself again this may be an opportunity for back story; for Magnus to tell Jace about his ancestor. Zachariah also tells them that Jace did not arrive at the Silent City for treatment.
I love the scene between Izzy and Simon; she knows that she con confide in him and also offers to listen to his problems, they have a wonderful friendship. She tells him that she wants to do more to help her mom, she knows that Maryse is struggling with adjusting to her new reality and doesn’t feel like she is doing enough to help. Simon opens up about his mom, that when she was having issues just being there was enough; letting her know that he was there to support, help and love her. That Maryse knowing Izzy is there for her is enough; she kisses his cheek, she appreciates his honest advice and knows that she can depend on him.
Alec, now completely drunk, declines the offer of playing pool with Underhill; playing pool has become his and Magnus’ thing. We get confirmation that Magnus is at least 800 years old, not the estimated 300 that Hodge told them in Season 1. Drunk Alec, even sad drunk Alec, is adorable and I have to give Matt props for his acting; it was very authentic and he didn’t over play it.
Heidi, believing her to be Simon’s girlfriend, attacks Izzy which is definitely a bad move because Izzy is a very capable badass. Simon interrupts before the fight can get too nasty telling Izzy that Heidi isn’t in her right mind because of what Raphael did to her; you can completely understand Simon defending her. He knows that she has been through a lot and has become unhealthy fixated on him as a result; he doesn’t want to see her unduly punished when there is a chance for him to help her.
He persuades Izzy to let him deal with her; the Clave would kill Heidi for attacking the mundane which would not be fair to her, all fledglings have trouble controlling their urges and it must be worse for Heidi who had no moral guidance.
Underhill has taken Alec outside to find a cab to take him back to the Institute, Alec opens up a little; telling Underhill that he and Magnus had their first date at the Hunter’s Moon. That they never got around to answering the question if they were too different to be together; Alec has all these doubts in his head and I am glad that he is talking to someone about it. With Underhill he isn’t under the pressure to be perfect that he feels with his family (no matter how false it is), he feels that he can unload a little especially in his inebriated state.
Underhill tells Alec that Magnus may not understand their ways ‘Nephilim love once. Fiercely’; he may have a point, Magnus knows Shadowhunters but never romantically before so he may not understand that for many Shadowhunters they only have one great love. If he did he may not have worded his comments about experience in quite the way he did; he has loved many times so may not understand the belief of only having one love in your life. He tells Alec that whatever he feels is ok and not to be too hard on himself; I like this because it is reassuring Alec that his feelings are valid and he shouldn’t pressure himself to feel a certain way.
Another thing that makes me believe that nothing will happen between Alec and Underhill (besides the fact that Alec would never betray anyone, let alone Magnus, that way) is that Underhill seems to be very respectful of their relationship. In their first conversation he complimented their relationship which sounds like he admired what they had and probably hopes to reach that with someone one day, he referred to Magnus as Alec’s better half and from what he just said he believes that Magnus is the one person that Alec will love in his life. He seems very respectful of Alec and his relationship with Magnus so I don’t believe he would ever disrespect them, or their relationship, by making a move on Alec.
I really hope we continue to see them develop a good friendship, and in some of Todd and the writer’s tweets about them include #friendsforever. So not only does that suggest, if not confirm, that nothing of a romantic nature is going to happen between them but also that they are going to develop a friendship; which would be great for both of them.
Ollie shows up Hunter’s Moon to talk Luke about a lead she found on the Owl’s targets; Luke tells her they will investigate in the morning and to go home to her lady. Ollie smiles and tells him to go back to his, meaning Maryse; I adore Ollie so much. Again we are yelling at Jace because Ollie also has golden aura.
Heidi is under the impression that Simon has chosen her and wants to start a clan of their own; you feel sympathy for her because all she seems to wants is someone to love her, a real family. Simon has organised Praetor’s to come collect her to be rehabilitated; although she may resent him at first and he may feel bad he has done the right thing. He was never going to be able to help her efficiently because of her obsession; she needs to be somewhere safe and where she can be taught how to be a responsible vampire.
Magnus and Clary portal behind the Hunter’s Moon; Clary is angry at Jace for lying to her, after everything they have been though and the secrets she has kept for him she believed that they were at least honest with each other. She feels betrayed that he has deceived her. When she says you don’t lie to someone you love I can understand where she is coming from, in a romantic relationship honesty is very important; but also it is a bit hypocritical, she loves Alec and Izzy as family and yet she has been lying to them. But at least the truth seems to come out next week, finally.
Magnus puts all the pieces together; telling Clary about the woman who requested the elixir, how he couldn’t put his finger on what was off about her. He figures out that she must be the same demon who attacked her but masking her power and disguised in human form. I knew that Magnus was smart enough to figure out that there was something wrong with her and I am glad he has put the pieces together quickly. I am also dreading the guilt he is bound to feel; despite the fact that she manipulated him and he had no way of knowing who she was, or what her real intentions were, he is going to blame himself for giving her the means to pull Jace further into her influence.
The Owl already has Ollie and is transferring power when Clary finds him; Magnus prevents him from attacking Clary but gets blown back himself, caught off guard by the magic he is wielding. Luckily Luke comes to the rescue by shooting him and it is revealed to them that it is Jace behind the mask; he flees and a possessed Ollie escapes. The last few minutes were a great whirlwind and I am so excited for next week.
Again, I really liked this episode; Season 3 has not disappointed at all, every episode is fantastic. I love the Magnus and Biscuit team up; I hope we see some more interaction between Luke and Maryse and I need Ollie to be ok.
I am not ready for seeing Magnus punish himself in guilt next week but on the upside we get the Malec hug inside the Institute.
Also, we are getting a double finale! Episodes 9 and 10 are airing on Tuesday May 15th (Wednesday May 16th on Netflix). I am not prepared!

Synopsis
When Dominick Cavallo first saw Allegra Anderson, he knew instantly that she was the one for him. Unfortunately Allegra Anderson, best-selling author of erotica and self-confessed clutz, didn’t even know he existed. That is about to change.
The night Allegra’s house mate Cassie insists she come out clubbing with her is the night that fate intervenes.
From the moment Allegra sees Dominick at the club when he rescues her from the unwanted attentions of another man, she’s spellbound by his stunning good looks. His black hair, startlingly blue eyes and the way he speaks to her, has her totally captivated by him. He is the sexiest thing she’s ever seen and the attraction is instant and intense.
Dominick disappears not long after Allegra meets him and she’s devastated that she may never see him again. A week later, he reappears, when she least expects it and she learns something about him that could change the way she feels about him. He is not human, he is vampire.
Dominick is different to the other vampires. He has no desire to live their lifestyle but they are a part of his life whether he wants them or not. Allegra doesn’t want to be part of that lifestyle either. When she meets Dominick’s sire, the brooding but sexy Fabian, she feels both unwanted attraction and fear for him. Fabian makes it clear he wants Allegra for himself and he will do anything to get her, even if it means destroying Dominick and Allegra’s relationship.
Will he end up driving them apart? Will Allegra be able to come to terms with what Dominick is?
When something unexpected happens, that will change who she is forever, can their love survive?
With Allegra’s discovery of her newly acquired ‘abilities,’ suddenly everything changes. Will it all be too much? Will Fabian succeed and ruin everything? Can Dominick and Allegra survive all that is determined to tear them apart or will love truly conquer all?

Synopsis
Sirene Devereaux came to town, looking for a man; but not just any man, she was looking for a vampire.
This wasn’t about finding love. She was in town to do a job. It was business, not pleasure. She had to hunt down one particular vampire and make his very existence a living hell. To hide her true identity, she got a job as a waitress and eventually some gigs singing, since that was her real passion. Of course there was more to her than met the eye. Sirene was a witch.
It didn’t take her long to find a place to stay, make friends and find her vampire. In fact, he found her.
Fabian Sorensen wants Sirene the moment he lays eyes on her, but unfortunately his natural charm doesn’t seem to work on her. He’s used to getting any woman he wants, yet she seems immune.
When he finally gets the chance to spend a night with her, he discovers she’s no ordinary woman, she’s a witch and he hates witches. It has never ended well for him when he encounters them.
Sirene is no different. She hurts him, humiliates him and attacks the one thing precious to him, his manhood and for that, he wants revenge. He learns she’s been sent to torture him and she’s a serious threat to his normally controlled world. He has survived over 600 years and suddenly everything is threatened by one tiny raven haired witch.
She thwarts his attempts to make her pay for what she did to him. Any time he’s around her, she completely unmans him. He hates that he is attracted to her. He uses women for blood and sex, he doesn’t do relationships, so why is this one messing with his head so much?
Sirene too, is drawn to him which goes against everything she is in town to do. She’s supposed to loathe him, not like him. The attraction between them is powerful but will it ultimately destroy them?
When a series of challenges arises and their very lives are threatened, can they survive? With so much against them, is it possible for a witch and a vampire to truly find love?

Synopsis
For most of her life, the only thing Arissa Petros has known is abuse. She is just 19 years old when, with the help of a friend, she runs away from her abuser. Wanting as much distance between the man who has hurt her and herself, she travels to another state working as a housekeeper for an elderly lady with a broken leg. Arissa’s never been away from home or another state so everything is frightening to her. She is torn between fear of the unknown and relief at being away from the man who abused her for so long.
Mrs Appleby is kind and caring and it doesn’t take Arissa long to settle in to her new life. For the first time ever, she feels happy and safe, that is, until she meets one of the neighbours from over the road.
Lucian Andreas is the classic tall, dark and handsome man. He wants her and pursues her despite the fact she is terrified and wants nothing to do with him. As far as Arissa is concerned, men represent pain and aren’t to be trusted. She has no desire to have anything to do with them ever!
Lucian won’t give up on her though and slowly but surely he breaks down her defences. He is the first man she has ever wanted to spend time with. He makes her feel things she’s never felt before and she finds herself longing for the touch of his lips, the strong safe haven of his arms.
When Lucian finds out about Arissa’s past, it only makes him want her more, determined to prove to her that not all men are bad and that sex doesn’t have to represent pain and humiliation. But first he has to come clean; reveal his true identity to her. He has to tell her he’s a vampire. Despite his initial fears, his revelation doesn’t frighten her off and in fact brings them closer together. Lucian opens up a whole new world to her filled with passion and excitement. That is, until tragedy strikes and suddenly everything changes when Arissa’s past catches up with her and her life is in danger.
Will Lucian be able to save her in time? Can they survive? Will their relationship handle the stresses placed on it? Everything seems lost, that all hope is gone until that chance discovery one night. That one thing that changes everything…
***NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR***
As a survivor of abuse myself, please be aware that this book touches on the subject of abuse and may be a trigger for some. It is not a story about abuse, but rather the damage that abuse causes on a person, both emotionally and physically.

About the Author
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved to write, poetry, short stories just about anything. My English teachers in school kept telling me I should write and it took me a lot of years to finally get around to it.
I spent too long worrying about failing as a writer before I realized that living with the regret of never trying was worse.
I live in a sleepy country town in Tasmania, Australia with my partner and our three children, who aren’t so little anymore, plus a whole assortment of animals.
Natasha’s Awakening is my first book but I have no intention of stopping now and will continue to live my dream of being a published author. I have just published Taming Eric which is his POV to Natasha’s Awakening.
My interests are writing of course, reading, watching movies and hanging out at home with my family, our six cats and one dog.

Self-Promo Sunday: “A Private Revolution”
On the eve of Revolution, when it seems his whole world is falling down around him, nobleman Killian Jones is given a wonderful reason to keep fighting for his life...
{ I first began writing this fic more than two years ago, during a summer hiatus event. The prompt was simply “French Revolution”. At the time, I just put together what struck me for a quick one shot, and though it’s short and dubious in its historical accuracy, I have a friend who loved it and kept asking for a sequel. Once I finally posted Part Two, I thought ‘Okay, now I’m really done with this.’ But then @kmomof4 actually made the above fic banner art for it for my birthday in August, and I just couldn’t really ignore the request for after such a lovely gesture! ;) In honor of her birthday this week, there will be a new addition coming on Tuesday, since a suitable plot idea has at long last taken shape. So, for my Self-Promo Sunday contribution this week, here is the story as it stands so far. Enjoy! }
** Also on AO3: Part One and Part Two and on ff.net **
“A Private Revolution”
Part One
The knock at the door was so soft he almost did not hear it, and Lord Killian Jones tilted his head to listen curiously, unsure if the faint noise had been there at all or if he had imagined someone coming to him in his solitary moment of loneliness and ruin. Yet though the knocking sound was not repeated, he could hear a quiet scuffle as he listened closely, as if someone shy or hesitant to disturb were shuffling their feet just outside his chambers – and with that, the young nobleman felt quiet sure he knew who was waiting for admittance.
“Enter,” he called out, pushing confident assurance into his voice, despite the sensation of everything being unmoored, crumbling, trembling at the brink of downfall. He could not let his fear or his uncertainty show – his family name, his noble line must be upheld, regardless of his own personal doubt. It would not do to have some disloyal servant see him quaking in his shoes and to spread that news to the crass, militant rabble in the streets. Though if this was the person he expected, she would never dream of doing any such thing.
The door swung inward by slight degrees, until a flawless, pale and heart-shaped face was revealed, muted only by the glowing halo of flaxen curls piled out of the way atop this angel’s head, with tendrils escaping here and there to trail along her neck and shoulders enticingly. The huge door, ornate with whorls and loops of hand wrought carving and adding to the opulent white and gold leaf décor of his personal apartments could not hold a candle to this chambermaid with simple and quiet dignity. It had always been so, ever since their childhood on the estate together when they had laughed and played happily, much less aware of the difference in their stations. Her mother had been his mother’s favored ladies’ maid, and Emma Swan had been on this estate in his family’s employ since birth. It mattered little however that she was a mere housekeeper and assistant to the cook; he had always been in awe of her beauty, the way sunlight caught her hair and lit it aflame, or how the sparkling humor in her verdant green eyes could bring a smile and laughter to his lips no matter what had befallen him. He was tempted even now – as he had been countless times before – to touch an escaped curl of her luxurious mane and twirl it around his finger, to know what those soft strands would feel like against his skin.
“Emma,” was all he said aloud, giving a slight nod and beckoning her forward with crooked fingers. “Come in, please.”
She curtsied as she had been taught, and moved forward, graceful tread sinking into the plush carpet. Though he had tried as often as he could for years to convince her that such formality was unnecessary, she persisted for some unfathomable reason that remained beyond his grasp. His mother had been dead nearly a decade now – to the fever – even if her loss still ached in his breast, his father had already fled the country as Killian himself had been cautioned and advised to do, and his older brother Liam fought for the crown somewhere, surely trying to protect and keep the peace in the midst of a frightening Revolution. Killian has received no word of his elder sibling, his hero, in nearly two months’ time, and the horror and panic at the thought of what might have befallen Liam threatened to climb up his throat and choke him whenever he dwelt upon it too long…
“Milord,” Emma’s quiet voice – so unique, demure and respectful, but also husky, low, undeniably sensual – interrupted the thoughts that had begun to overwhelm him, and he clenched his fists against his thighs, hoping that his childhood friend, now servant to a decrepit manor falling around both their ears, would not see that he had begun to shake when she continued speaking. “Beg pardon, Monsieur, but do you not mean to depart for the country? It is no longer safe for you here, Sire.”
His eyes darted up sharply in order to search hers, their icy blue piercing her; he could tell by the way her perfectly shaped pink lips parted on a startled gasp. “You are the one who should leave, Mademoiselle,” he remarked, irked once again that she still refused to drop her guard and address him as someone she actually knew. He cast his eyes back down to study his fine trousers and the elaborate buckles on his shoes – all silly affectations of his class that seemed so pointless now – unable to meet her guileless eyes any longer. “Flee from here, tell no one from whence you came, blend with the oncoming mob and seek their protection from your oppressors. Why do you stay?”
Trembling herself, as if she could barely stand to be so bold, Emma drew closer to him than she had allowed herself since they were fourteen, since before his mother’s death and the weight of his position had fully fallen upon his shoulders, when they had been spinning under the open sky in a sunlit field of wildflowers until they had tumbled dizzily to the ground and in a moment of reckless abandon he had pulled her to his side, brushed her hair from her flushed face, leaned over her and kissed her. It had never been repeated, but in unguarded moments Killian could sense that neither of them had forgotten that one perfect kiss. This was one such time; it was clear in Emma’s open, pleading gaze as she tentatively reached forward and put her delicate fingers beneath his chin, tilting his face up to meet hers.
“Don’t you know, K- Killian?” she whispered, stumbling momentarily over his given name, a familiarity she also had not allowed herself in years. “It is you who keeps me here. You cannot remain to make yourself a sacrifice to these fiends. Mon Dieu! I could not bear it if -”
She broke off suddenly, wrenching her gaze away with a heaving breath, and withdrawing her gentle touch. But Killian pushed forward, emboldened for the first time in what felt like ages. Resolved in an instant, he took her hand in his, his face still burning pleasantly from her touch. The thought that she lingered for him, that she would not abandon him even for her own safety and a life of freedom, shook Killian to his core. ‘Even after all this time,’ he realized, so stunned it nearly stole his breath, ‘she still feels as I do.’ He might not have been willing to flee for the sake of his own hide, but for her he would go to the end of the world itself.
Bringing the back of her hand up to his mouth, Killian placed a fervent kiss to her soft, creamy skin. “Then upon my word, we leave at once. Emma,” he savored her name on his tongue like fine wine, “it will be as you wish.”
And so, that night, when the violent mob with their torches breached the gates of his chateau, Lord Killian Jones and Emma Swan had already vanished, disappearing as one into the night.
