VERSE 005 ( doors to the deathless )

The doors of the deathless are open, Brahmā, for those who have ears. They enter with veneration, devoid of hatred, the beings in Magadha listen

Suguru's teacher verse is based on a small alteration of the canonical timeline. The main difference is that the curse at Nanako and Mimiko's village was assessed to be a grade two instead of one. So Kento Nanami was dispatched in Suguru's stead. This then leads to a chain of events that eventually land Suguru in Kyoto as a teacher. But before I venture into what I will portray Suguru's disposition to be like in this verse, I wanted to clarify something else about my portrayal.

Suguru's built up frustration was never directed towards jujutsu society. Unlike Gojo, who believes the higher-ups' schemes are to blame, Geto saw a greater problem that referred to the practice of jujutsu in general ( as long as non-sorcerers keep producing curses, jujutsu sorcerers will keep dying thankless deaths to protect them) Suguru himself has always expressed contempt towards those weaker than him in canon. However, being the other side of the coin to Gojo's vanity, this contempt translated to a responsibility to protect them, justifying the power imbalance and the suffering he had to endure. I as a writer subscribe to this interpretation of the character and as a result Suguru's contemptuous attitude towards nonshamans continues to be evident in this verse. However, since there was one less violent experience throughout his downward spiral ( poor Nanami takes the blow instead ;~; ) we can say the proverbial glass of his hatred towards them was filled to the brim but did not overspill.

VERSE SUMMARY:

Suguru is a special training teacher in Kyoto High. Albeit his specialty being martial arts, he is very knowledgeable when it comes to curses and utilizes his technique to create simulations for his students to practice. Suguru is known for his whimsical teaching style and prompting his students to think on their ideals and goals through practicing jujutsu. Much like his Tokyo counterpart, Satoru, his practices are frowned upon by the higher-ups and he is considered a bit of a wild card, especially because of how liberally he expresses his dislike for non-shamans.

This verse will primarily be used to build dynamics with muses that can't interact much in the canon timeline as well as explore 'what-if' scenarios. Kenjaku will not be present in this verse.

Suguru's default age for this verse is 27 years old. As this is just a skeleton for the verse, the status of Mimiko and Nanako's adoption is left vague ( either took custody of them from Nanami, they are being raised in Tokyo High, they are being raised by Gojo, etc etc ) Suguru's parents are also alive in this verse ( so if anyone wants to ask for his hand in marriage you'll need permission )

VERSE TIMELINE:

March-May 2006: Riko Amanai is assassinated by Toji Fushiguro. Suguru takes in his cursed inventory spirit.

Summer of 2006: Suguru begins to develop severe PTSD symptoms as a result of the encounter.

Autumn of 2006-Winter of 2007: Suguru's mental health is at a steady decline, worsened by the consumption of curses and isolation from his friend group.

August 2007: Satoru Gojo officially becomes The Strongest. Suguru's mental health has tanked severely in the previous months. A conversation with Yuki Tsukumo leads him to the inevitable conclusion that the root of the problem are non-sorcerers. Whilst bidding goodbye, Yuki tells him that a new vessel has been found for Tengen.

September 2007: Suguru is sent on a mission that is soon discovered to be staged by TVA members in order to attain Tengen's new appointed vessel. That tips the glass for Suguru, leading him to annihilate the cult's members instead of taking over — automatically being branded as dangerous and ordered for execution. A petition is signed by Jujutsu High staff members to settle a court date before the execution takes place.

October 2007: His friends and juniors vouch for Suguru's integrity and buy out his freedom, in exchange for limitations on his cursed technique. Suguru is given the choice to either retire from the frontlines and instead be given a teaching job after he graduates with a binding vow/cap on his own cursed technique, or be executed. He goes with the second option, but Gojo interferes and essentially backs him up into a teaching job. That inevitably drives a wedge between the two best friends. aka they break up in front of the KFC still

2010: Suguru officially graduates highschool and is appointed as a special training teacher in Kyoto.

CURSED TECHNIQUE BINDING VOW:

After trial, the higher-ups forced Suguru to take a binding vow that limits him from using his cursed technique, unless he or another sorcerer is under imminent threat. That implies there would always need to be another sorcerer present in order for Suguru to summon spirits, thus he'd only be able to use jujutsu under supervision. Windows and affiliates are included in this vow.

In addition, he cannot use Maximum: Uzumaki without sacrificing his own life in the process. If utilized, Uzumaki will be performed at a 300% of its standard power, but Suguru will be consumed by it first, similarly to how Mahoraga works, yet not exactly. Suguru has figured out a way to merge cursed spirits on his own accord, however there are limitations in regards to the power level of the outcome.

RELATIONSHIP WITH THE STUDENTS:

Suguru is not exactly a favorite among the students, although he is the one they flock to for most of their troubles. He has a great relationship with Noritoshi and a rocky one with Mai Zenin, especially after publicly declaring that he refuses to train her. Momo also dislikes him for that reason.

TIDBITS & CHARACTER QUIRKS:

Suguru is known for his impossibly hard training regimens. He's quite brutal when it comes to discipline routines.

Suguru maintains a relationship with Yuki in this verse, often texting back and forth or meeting up to talk outside of work. Yuki has scouted students for him at times. It's a colleague based thing. He still hasn't answered her question as to his type.

Once per year Suguru travels back to Tokyo with a heavy heart to participate in the exchange event with his students. He hates the teacher nomikai parties.

Suguru has a pet cat-like curse based on the bakeneko yokai. He has named her Wasabi. This curse is non-hostile unless the user is threatened, wears a napkin on its head and does little dances.

In addition, Suguru has kept Fushiguro's inventory spirit and does sometimes utilize it, although usually he keeps it in its shrunk form in his uniform pocket.

Suguru will still accompany his students on missions at times, in order to watch over them. His consumption of curses is very gradual and rare, technically forbidden by the higher-ups, however Suguru still makes pacts with his students to acquire higher grade cursed spirits with the pretext of ensuring they won't be respawning if consumed.

He has his own room in the Kyoto High dormitory.

The following alternate universes apply to Urahara Kisuke only.

Cyberpunk — Urahara Kisuke is a specialist ripperdoc living in Night City. Those who require services over and above the standard upgrades and maintenance can call upon his unassuming little shop — if they can find it. More often it is the case that he has an uncanny way of finding his clients, and just when they need him, too. Naturally dextrous and equipped with a cybereye capable of microscopic vision and AI-enhanced anatomical analytics, he’s well-suited to perform boutique surgery.

On this blog, we have a powerful need to keep track of when in time things are happening, because circumstances change and people grow... especially kids.

That said, these are the ERA tags:

Forward — 2024-present: Kisuke now wears his hair in a ponytail. Tessai will take a more active role in local politics. Jinta, 32, decides he will not be taking over the family business and moves out of the Shōten to an apartment furnished by employer Akina. Onward — 2016-2023: The most modern verse there is. Kisuke and Tessai are empty-nesters. Ururu, 27+, is now living and working in Yoruichi’s industrial park/apartment building and visiting the Shōten. Jinta, 24+, is still living at the Shōten and a bit at loose ends, unsure of career direction. Main affiliates: @midnightactual, @hirak0s

Hellish— 2015. The Shoten is handling events surrounding No Breathes From Hell with Churchill’s philosophy: When you’re going through Hell, keep going.

Progress — 2011-2014. Default time period on this blog. Just prior to No Breaths from Hell, Kisuke has been introducing modern communications technologies to Soul Society. As Ururu and Jinta grow into young adults, she will take on a greater role in the Shōten's business and structural development, and he, having developed a late-blooming interest in electronic music, will attend Nihon Kogakuin technical college and join a band, in addition to continuing to work part time at the Shōten. Reinvention — May 2004-2010. As he continues to work through the impact of the recent wars on himself and his relationships, Kisuke replaces the eye permanently lost in battle with an artificial implant and begins to focus his research direction on whether, and how, hybrid humans impact the Soul Balance. Ururu graduates high school in 2007 and goes on to study Civil Engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology. Jinta graduates high school in 2010. Main affiliates: @midnightactual, @sphaeraa, @deivorous, @the-lightning-underdog, @viciousvizard, @hirako5hinji

CFYOW — January-April 2004. The events of Can't Fear Your Own World lead into another as-yet-to-be-defined adventure for the Shōten crew.

Recovery —July 2003-December 2003. In the wake of the so-called 'Great Soul King Protection War,' Kisuke and Tessai continue to opt out of Soul Society. Kisuke moves his hot spring from the training chamber under Sokyoku Hill to the Shōten underground training area. During this time, Kisuke wears some sort of eye patch or prosthesis.

TYBW — June 2003. The events of the Thousand Year Blood War. Kisuke supports the war effort in Soul Society while Tessai, Ururu and Jinta do so on the home front.

Interbellum — December 2001-May 2003. For eighteen months, a small family business returns to the business of being a small family. But there's a storm brewing on the horizon, and it's not just Ururu and Jinta's teenage years...

Go-Time — May-November 2001. This period encompasses all events between Kisuke's opening gambit to give Rukia a special gigai through training Kurosaki Ichigo to be his champion to the final move to seal Aizen. Yoruichi has returned to lend her aid, and the Shōten crew is like, sooo here to help you.

Family — 1989-2000. Ururu and Jinta complete the Shouten family, making their entrance in 1989 and 1992 respectively. These are relatively quiet years of child-rearing and preparation for Kisuke and Tessai.

Godfather — 1980-1988. The events and aftermath of Everything But the Rain. Kisuke's intervention to save the Quincy Kurosaki Masaki, Aizen's unintended target, from Hollow corruption results ultimately in the births of three new Shiba family heirs.

Exile — 1900-1980. Having been framed by Aizen Sōsuke, then rescued by Yoruichi from their sham trial and sentencing, Kisuke and Tessai flee to the Living World with the Visored, where they set up housekeeping for themselves running a shop in a quaint little machiya in quiet Karakura. However, the domestic milieu is overshadowed by Urahara Kisuke's persistent grappling with Hollowfication and the Hōgyoku, and a constant vigilance while Aizen remains at large.

TBTP — 1890-1900. The decade during which Urahara Kisuke was captain of Twelfth Division and founded the SRDI, and Tessai held the position of Kidō Corps Commander as Grand Kidō Chief.

Formation — ?-1890. Current placeholder for all events prior in the timeline. Watch this space for further development.

MAIN VERSE

Set after The End Of Time and canon-divergent from there on.

After the Master opposed Rassilon and his Timelord Council, thwarting their plans of ascension, he turns himself human with a chameleon arch to prevent any retaliation from Gallifrey. He aims to escape to an England under Saxon’s rule, but falls through time and eventually crash-lands in Manchester, 1973, with a damaged fob watch and conflicting memories of different lifetimes - both his own and the persona he made up in order to hide.

As Detective Inspector Sam Tyler the Master proceeds to work for the Manchester & Salford Police to uncover the mystery that is his own existence.

Detective Inspector Sam Tyler (1969 - 2007) was a high-ranking, and well-respected, detective of the Greater Manchester Police in 2006 who fell into a coma after a fatal car accident and woke up in 1973 where he works for the Manchester and Salford Police under Gene Hunt.

In this verse Sam Tyler suffers from PTSD following a car crash and the gruesome murder of his girlfriend Maya. I’ll be updating my Rules and About pages later, but- My blog is to be single-ship, multi-verse. Each verse will have one status across all plots within that verse. Ie, if Reed does something in Thread A, set in Verse 1, Thread B in Verse 2 is unaffected but Thread C in Verse 1 IS. When I figure out a clearer wording for this is when the update will happen. In the meantime, I have the following verses:

121698-616: Films Divergent

Diverging from the 05/07 film’s canon as Galactus is preparing to devour the Earth, Reed Richards is torn from his universe and finds himself on Earth-616 with no known way of contacting or even knowing that his Fantastic Family is still alive. Stunned and feeling lost, he requests Victor von Doom’s assistance. This is my Primary verse in which interactions are set by default.

616: Comics

The Reed Richards as known in the comic books. Please do keep in mind that I am still very new to the comic books and am slowly working my way through its library!

121698: Films Non-Divergent

In Iron Man 2, there is a deleted scene in which Stark requests information from a “Project Exodus.” I theorise that this Project Exodus, led by Stark Industries employee Reed Richards and consisting of Benjamin Grimm, Susan Storm, and Johnny Storm, was set out several years ago as a foray into studying the effects of sub light-speed travel on the human psyche and physiology. Due to the dilation of time when one is travelling at such speeds, what seemed to be merely a few weeks of exploration to those on board was in reality over a decade passing on Earth. During that time, their craft was subjected to intense cosmic radiation. Their eventual return to Earth came with unique changes to their bodies. Their return occurs post-Endgame.

verse summary.

Art has always been Clary's passion, threading itself through her entire life. at first, it even took her to college until a pivotal class prompted her to declare a dual major, & she started on the path of Elementary Education & Art. graduating with honors & earning both her B.A. & M.A., she took a risk & did a nine month artist in residency program with The Whitney Museum.

After the conclusion of the program, she would go on to accept a job teaching kindergarten at one of the prestigious private schools in New York City. Her curriculum centers largely around art, & language development following the expectations established by the school.

During the school year, she works with other volunteers for a nonprofit specializing in guided art therapy for both men & women - youth & adults - looking for support after trauma associated with assault, as well as military veteran groups confronting issues surrounding re-entry to civilian life, post-traumatic stress, & other related things. Typically she oversees one session a week after the conclusion of her school day for each group, with her youth group being on Saturdays, & her adult group on Wednesday nights.

During the summer, she's often called to act as an artist in residence for various programs through New York Foundation for the Arts. Through these residencies, she's traveled to places such as Cape Town, South Africa, Skowhegan, Maine, & Itaparica, Brazil - the latter of which was funded by grant through her employer in the hopes to bring back ideas for further diversifying their curriculum.

Clary's canon backstory in this verse is largely similar to her seemingly mundane life prior to her sixteenth birthday. She was born the younger child of Jocelyn Fairchild & Valentine Morgenstern, but raised solely by Jocelyn in Park Slope, Brooklyn. They had separated following steep personal tragedy that had claimed the life of Jocelyn’s parents when their home burned under mysterious circumstances, & Valentine had bolted with their son.

She attended St. Francis Xavier School, a private school near her home in Park Slope, Brooklyn, which is where she met Simon Lewis when she was six years old. Additionally, prior to her high school graduation, she was taking classes at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

When she was 16 ( circa 2007 ), she received a letter from her father’s estate revealing he had passed away far more recently than she & her mother had been lead to believe - Jocelyn had been under the impression her husband had died in that tragic fire that had claimed the life of her parents & young son before the birth of their daughter. Several weeks later, Jonathan turned up on Jocelyn’s doorstep with the revelation that not only had Valentine lied about his own death, but also that of his son.

Jonathan has been living & working in Manhattan since, compliant with @idumean‘s professional chef verse unless plotted otherwise. Jocelyn & Luke are now married & living at Luke’s.

Clary teaches kindergarten at a private school in Manhattan’s Upper East. Her class size ranges from 8-10 small children, & follows a Scandinavian elementary model that emphasizes playtime & education through discovery. Her school year runs from roughly the second week of September through the first week of June, with her artist in residence programs typically picking up the third week of June through the second week of August. ( yearly salary: 76,000, pretax ( link ), $60,291 after taxes. works out to roughly $5,024/mo. )

Clary does not drive. She does however frequently use the metro, as well as very, very rarely takes cabs to get between home & work as well as the various places she goes during the week for her volunteer work or art ramblings. She runs an instagram account based on the rambling sketcher ( link ), & sells prints for additional income. she carries an etchr field case with her for those excursions. you can find the rest of the details of her kit here ( link ).

Clary lives in East Harlem ( link ). She has a small studio apartment that’s perpetually covered in plants & paintings. It’s very small, but it’s one of the most walkable areas & close to public transportation - & it’s home. Her rent takes up a disproportionate amount of her income, but she supplements her teacher’s salary with her art work, & various grants cover the cost of her artist in residence excursions that aren’t covered by the programs themselves. She doesn’t have any pets.

Her artist in residence programs are relatively short, & only occur during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer months ( late June - early August ), but offer flexibility in that they aren’t restricted to Manhattan as the rest of the school year would be.

Rise au / Nightwatcher

Based off this art by AzulyToons, the 2007 movie and comics, and some headcanons. This is my default Rise verse unless otherwise specified.

Being a mutant ninja turtle was never easy. Especially when your father refused to actually raise you.

Being the eldest, Raph took it upon himself to protect his brothers. Even during their times with mystic adventures and other mutants, that desire to protect never left him.

One night, he’d just finished a mission with his brothers when he heard someone in distress. He went to go help (without his brothers’ knowledge,) and found an old man getting mugged. He, without thinking, jumped in to defend him and scared off the muggers. The old man thanked him and they started chatting. Raph learned this man was a vigilante in his youth, and his name was David Merryweather. He invited Raph back to his apartment so they could continue chatting, but after half an hour, the boy got a text from Donnie asking where he was. The two said their goodbyes and he was about to leave the apartment building from the back when he heard a gunshot from the living room. He rushed in, and there was David, bleeding out on the ground -- the muggers came back, looking for some revenge.

David made Raph promise him to put his old stuff to good use before bleeding out in the boy’s arms. He went into the man’s bedroom and found a wardrobe. Once opened, it revealed a black chainmail suit, keys to a garage (of which, he later found, had a motorcycle,) and a duffel bag with all sorts of weapons in it. Panicking, he drove the bike and went to the farm, where his girlfriend, Cleo, lived. Once he arrived, he continued to freak out, explaining the situation to her.

She proposed the idea for them to find the muggers and take them down, for David. The two of them teamed up and were able to track the group down, and, with the suit and the supplies he’d...inherited, Raph was able to get the group behind bars. After that, he proposed an idea to Cleo: they could become a vigilante duo. He’d keep the stuff at the farm, in an old abandoned barn, and the two of them would plot their plans there.

Since then, he’d become a vigilante, and the city named him Nightwatcher. None of his brothers nor friends were aware, but that was more than fine with Raph. He didn’t want anyone else to know.

It was then the Clave and the few leaders the witches had came to an agreement. Teams of witches and Shadowhunters in equal measure were formed, fighting the hordes of relentless evil even as they were cut down. Witches took Shadowhunter runes, Shadowhunters made witches potions and helped to make one that activated , both learning to utilize and share their respective skills. Teams became family, witch and Shadowhunter bloodlines mixing and forming a new type of warrior.

Chris Halliwell has been partnered with Jace Wayland, a Shadowhunter and the team leader. Unbeknownst to the Clave, they've come up with a way to prevent this war from ever happening: Chris travels back in time to save his older brother.

Everything goes downhill after that.

When interacting with this blog if a verse or AU is not specified then the character answering asks and memes is Bayverse Raph as he is the main character on this blog. Please note that each RP is consider its own AU from the main blog. The activities that happen in RP do not affect the main blog in any way. Also the different verses cannot affect each other. The actions of Bayverse Raphael will not affect 2003 or 2007 Raphael.

Main - Bayverse/Movie Verse Raphael

This version of Raphael, the main blog version, is from the bayverse movies. The movies are considered his canon history, but since he is represented older here he has history past where the movies end.

SAINW Bayverse/Movie Verse Raphael

This version of Raphael, is from the bayverse movies only with a twist. The arch is generally the SAINW idea from the 2003 story only there are some changes. Donnie hasn’t shown up, the brothers are alive, and it isn’t just shredder that is the problem. This verse also has other mutants mixed in with the humans.

2007 Verse

I actually enjoyed the 2007 movie and that version of the turtles. That particular version of Raph would be my second favorite next to 2003. I especially loved him as Nightwatcher and would have this as a slight AU of the movie in that at the end he never gave up being the Nightwatcher, it is just something he doesn’t have to do every night anymore. He still does it when he feels the need or can’t deal with his emotions.

If anyone is interested in it, eventually I will also have 2003 Raphael on this blog as well. However that is a TBD sort of thing and not ready for release yet. For now movie verse is the only one active.

AU’s:

Mutants in New York - Original AU

Mutants in New York Blog This AU is considered an “alternate ending” AU to the movies. Instead of staying hidden they choose to integrate into society and live in New York as its legal citizens. In this AU Raphael shares a building with his brothers. Each brother has their own floor built to accommodate their individual personal needs and their size. The bottom 3 floors are various shared space. (NYC OWED THEM. They be set now Yo!)

The HUB - Original XO-AU

PORTALS, PORTALS, AND MORE PORTALS! This AU is the crossover AU where Raph will interact with other versions of himself and his brothers. This is the default AU applied when other turtle blogs interact with this one. Everything is pretty much the same as the main blog only, there are more of him and he can talk to himself (and not be crazy.. Well crazier, he is already nuts.)

The Crackaverse - Crack AU Are you interested in zany off the wall RP? Then this AU is for you! Basically this is an anything goes, physics has no business here, fantasy is reality, the crazier the better, HOE DON’T DO IT…. OH MY GOD!, AU. Basically if your idea bends reality and it is just the most ridiculous thing ever, it might fit in here. I will tag my crack AU posts, but this basically gives me an excuse to put Raphael into situations he would logically or otherwise not be able to get into.

SAINW - Dark AU That episode pretty much killed every feeling I have in my body. For some special occasions and events I will use the SAINW AU to accommodate darker RP if it is requested. This AU is going to be used the least and I may only interact with other SAINW themed turtle blogs depending on the level of interest.

Who the heck is my muse anyway:

Shinjiro Aragaki of Persona 3, a founding member of the anti-Shadow group by the name of SEES. A tragic accident involving the then 16-year-old losing control of his Persona and resulting in the death of a single mother caused Shinjiro to leave his team behind one and a half years before the main plot’s timeline and to live in a constant state of self-loathing and guilt over said event, isolating himself from others completely. He initially tries to forget about his trauma, coping in extremely unhealthy ways (both physically and mentally) - though as he is unable to do so, his past catches up with him in the form of a revenge plot and is what eventually leads Shinjiro to an unfortunate fate of either death or a several months long coma, depending on the version of the game.

Points of interest:

1) Despite his scary looks and seemingly tough and intimidating attitude and presence, Shinjiro carries deep down an extremely caring and warm personality, constantly worrying and looking after others. He keeps this trait hidden to his best ability as his desire is to appear strong and reliable, though no matter the effort put into the tough guy act his true nature tends to constantly shine through in various ways regardless. If your muse happens to be in trouble or danger, you may just be able to count on Shinjiro to save the day - or at least take care of the aftermath, as his concern and selfless willingness to help often reaches out to anyone in need (and deserving) of help, not limited to his friends and loved ones.

2) In canon timeline Shinjiro is plagued with feelings of burdening guilt and self-loathing at almost all times due to an accident he cannot stop blaming himself for. This results in distant, standoffish and defensive behavior, pushing or attempting to push others (especially those worried for him) away. Keep this in mind in regards to interacting with my muse in this timeline especially; he won’t share - and if he shares it is hugely dependent on the person and he still won’t share a whole lot. In addition to this, Shinjiro is an introvertby nature and will rarely approach another person unless they are a close friend or in need of help, or otherwise forced to co-operate and interact. He also generally doesn’t talk much.

3) Shinjiro loves two things above others: animals and cooking. Especially dogs will cause the boy to smile and act a lot less on guard than usual (as long as no other people are around to witness it), revealing once again his true, gentle nature. Cooking on the other hand is more than just a hobby for the young man, but instead a passion. Leave it to Shinjiro to cook a meal resembling in its quality something taken straight out of a cookbook, to teach others about the secrets of the craft or to shame you for your eating or cooking habits. Getting him to cook you something may still be somewhat of a difficult task, extremely dependent on the situation as well as the inquirer.

What they’ve been up to recently:

Dependent on the timeline and/or the verse.

In a canon (or P3P’s FeMc route) verse before Shinjiro rejoins the ranks of SEES, Shinjiro will be living most of his days and nights on the streets, wandering around and helping those in trouble or alternatively, taking part in shady deals with a group of criminals by the name of Strega. Shinjiro’s health is in a constantly deteriorating state due to the use of Persona-suppressants (a drug used to seal away or control one’s Persona) that he gets from the group in exchange of these deals, resulting in more or less noticeable symptoms in addition to the strained state of his mental health. In the same verse a little later on Shinjiro will be part of his old team once more, fighting alongside his friends and eradicating Shadows for one full month before his eventual departure - making his time limited and scarce and thus affecting the threads based on this verse in many ways.

This blog will also include verses of anything before the game’s main plot’s timeline, including timelines such as: childhood, pre-SEES (2007), SEES’ first fighting days before Shinjiro’s accident (2007) – as well as anything after the fact before April 2009.

In a post-Nyx verse Shinjiro is a coma survivor, resurfacing from his coma after the events of October 4th sometime in early February, though he is dispatched from the hospital later in April. Shinjiro will no longer be depending on the use of suppressants, his health slowly but surely returning and improving. A chain of events also leads to the boy’s closure regarding his trauma and reconciliation with Ken, resulting in Shinjiro’s resolution, evolved Persona and a gradually improving state of mental health as well - able to finally stop obsessing over his past trauma. He is a returning student of Gekkoukan High, now one grade behind his own age group, working diligently in order to finally graduate high school and through that get his life back in order. This verse is my blog’s MAIN AU, and a lot of interactions deemed impossible or unlikely in the canon verse may or may not be set to happen in this verse. It is also the only verse in which romantic shipping occurs (not counting crushes or something lowkey that isn’t dating, etc). The default version of this verse is somewhat of a “everyone survives” type of an ideal, alternate world in which Nyx is sealed with some additional help, though depending on some details I am willing to RP a version including the protagonist’s death as well. This AU welcomes the male MC as the protagonist as well despite coma route originally being FeMc exclusive, though some details will obviously change.

Current plans:

1) Redemption. To pay for causing the death of Ken Amada’s mother - in any way the boy in question sees fitting, going as far as to be willing to forfeit his life for the cause.

2) Protect and look after loved ones. Shinjiro keeps a close eye on his friends, worrying and looking after their health, safety and needs to the best of his ability.

3) Getting his “shit together”. AU verse. Finally (even if a year late) graduating high school. Finding a job (preferably cooking related) and a place to stay in. Settling down.Maintaining his health - both mental and physical. Maintaining and improving his relationships. Fulfilling his new resolution by living looking after and watching over the boy whose life he’d once ruined. Honoring his new, second chance at a better life.

4) To fight alongside his friends once more. AU verse. In order to redeem himself for the loss of progress and the trouble he once caused SEES (Akihiko and Mitsuru) with his departure, Shinjiro decides to participate in the activities of the Shadow Operatives later on and for some time. This is also to take full advantage of his new, stronger and now stable Persona, as well as to ensure Amada’s chance at a normal childhood as much as possible by filling in for him whenever needed.

5) To lead a normal life. AU verse. Sometime after his mid twenties, Shinjiro will forfeit all Persona-related fighting once more in order to lead a life free of all things related to Shadows and Persona, to live life as a normal citizen. He may never be able to fully leave Shadow-related things out of his life due to his close ties with other Persona-users, but it is no longer what his life revolves around.

Desired interactions:

1) DEVELOPING ALREADY ESTABLISHED BONDS. Exploring and developing the familial bond between Shinjiro and Akihiko - all timelines included. Exploring and developing the boy’s friendship with Mitsuru, an old friend and teammate. Exploring and developing (and fixing) Shinjiro’s bond with Minako, including a possible romantic relationship first unsuccessfully established in the Portable-timeline prior to October 4 and finally given a second chance in the main AU verse. Developing Shinjiro’s extremely complex relationship with Ken, especially after Ken’s change of heart toward the older male. I also need a Koromaru to RP with, seriously.

2) GETTING TO KNOW THE REST OF SEES. I want more interactions with the rest of SEES too. All of them. From Shinjiro being a “super senpai” (direct quote) to Junpei to the Hierophant being a cooking instructor to Fuuka. I also need to establish relationships with characters like Minato, Yukari and Aigis as the games particularly lack interactions between Shinjiro and these three. At least that’s how I feel like.

3) STREGA. Shinjiro shares a rather interesting, complex and conflicting relationship between Strega. They aren’t friends, but they aren’t necessarily enemies either (that is until Shinjiro decides to rejoin SEES). A lot goes on between them, Shinjiro somewhat trapped in this troubling situation. Where did it all begin, how did they find out about each other? How do they interact outside of their shady business deals and blackmail? How does each Strega member feel about Shinjiro? These are all things I need to know.

4) Interactions with characters from other Persona games can always turn out to be rather interesting, Persona-users or not (and “normal people” in P3′s universe too!). I am also very open to crossovers of any kind. Don’t be afraid to approach me even if our characters have never canonically met each other. OCs are welcome too, as long as I am able to learn enough about them from you to know how to interact at all.

5) Childhood threads, adulthood threads etc. Anything outside of the canon timeline deeply intrigues me and is something I desire to develop and explore.

Offered interactions:

1) FRIENDSHIP, COMPANIONSHIP AND SUPPORT. As is mentioned in my rules, I am not someone very open to romantic shipping as a personal preference of mine: my muse for it is extremely picky. Friendships of any kind are hugely encouraged, however! Even if my muse may not be the easiest to get to know up, close and personal, deep down he is quite kind, friendly and caring and it may not take a whole lot for him to care enough to worry about your muse as well, even if they don’t yet know each other super well. Perhaps our characters could be fighting alongside each other toward a mutual goal? Characters that are already friends or acquaintances with Shinjiro may also be able to explore various types of interactions and situations and further development. Whichever the case, I will rarely (possibly never) turn down a friendship of some sort with my muse. Shinjiro needs friends. He is also the ideal character for a big brother -type of a relationship, which is why I’ll be super hyped to RP friendships with child muses as well.

2) COMPLEX, UNPLEASANT INTERACTIONS. As much as I love tender feelings and friendship and as easy as it is to make Shinjiro care for your muse, it isn’t hard to make him dislike someone either if they end up crossing the Hierophant’s strong, personal values deeply enough. Or perhaps your muse has something against Shinjiro for whatever reason? I want complex and unpleasant situations and relationships that cause deep and conflicting feelings and opinions. Good example of this is Strega, which I mentioned previously, though other characters may be able to develop similar (mutual or not) distaste with Shinjiro as well. Misunderstandings, blackmail or other threats, fighting, enemies, grudges, danger and more - all are situations I’m interested to explore.

3) ANGST. Let’s be real, Shinjiro may just be your go-to muse for some angsty interactions, angsty as is his whole backstory as well as his whole character during the canon timeline. Due to this fact angst from my muse may or may not be guaranteed to happen at least to some degree at some point in time, but it may be easy to explore your own character’s angsty feelings or situation with the help of my muse as well.

4) Any type of plotting and just casual interactions too are extremely welcome! I am super open for pre-established relationships, new verses and AUs. If you have an idea or wish to interact with me, don’t be afraid to send me stuff, to contact me or like my starter calls etc. I am here to write and explore both different kinds of relationships as well as my own muse; his feelings, thoughts, motives and development and I tend to think all interactions contribute to it at least to some degree.

Puzzleshipping Married Headcanon

Eighty percent of the time I don’t see fix-it!verse Atem & Yuugi marrying, given local laws and the fact that they’d consider themselves hitched by default the moment they get serious.

But the other twenty percent of the time? I focus all of my attention on the fact that they would totally have nerdy wedding rings.

I started out focusing on those Portal wedding rings I’ve seen- The blue and gold bands? But that game didn’t come out until 2007, so they would have to hold off until they were like THIRTY to exchange those. (-maybe they would be an anniversary gift instead??)

But since I wrote recently for These Days We Celebrate? I switched it to Yuugi would have a silver band with red inlaid stones around the center, and Atem would have a carbon copy of it in gold with green stones.

Why?

Pokemon.

By my story Yuugi played Pokemon Red first, his other back seating with prompted advice, but Yuugi later picked up Pokemon Green (Japan’s Blue) for Atem to play as ‘his’ file, where he made the first calls.

And after Atem got a body, they finally got to battle each other properly!

And a year after that, they got Gold & Silver upon its release, and got to play those together. :)

It might not be their absolutely favorite game series, but I think they’d be fond enough of it to commemorate those memories in their rings.

Turkey: A Glimpse of America's Future

POITOU, FRANCE - Coming into focus is a fuller picture of the worldwide financial crisis.

This week, we began looking at Turkey, but only because Donald Trump sent an extraordinary tweet last Friday.

In it, the president broke with tradition and common sense in a remarkable way. He used a crash in the Turkish lira to justify a new attack in the trade war.

Instead of soothing words that might have calmed the crisis situation, his tweet made it worse. And instead of coming to the aid of an ally in difficulty, he piled on.

We had never previously spent even two minutes thinking about Turkey or its finances. But then, after the president roused our curiosity, we saw what we think was a glimpse of the future.

In it, we see huge defaults... stock crashes... chest-pounding... threats and counterthreats... populism... betrayal... trade wars... and currency wars... as the world reckons with $115 trillion in excess debt.

Back to that in a minute...

Earthy Language

Yesterday was the Feast of the Assumption. France is overwhelmingly Catholic, so the occasion was marked by remembrances all over the country.

We were invited to join a procession at a nearby château. The place was magnificent, high on a cliff, overlooking the valley of the Benaize river.

When we arrived, a small group was already offering prayers to a small statue of the Virgin. Singing followed, then more prayers, and then the faithful began a procession, carrying the statue in front of them.

We were a little shocked by one of the verses, in which Mary gave Christ to the world "from her 'entrailles' [bowels]."

The French tend to be earthy and direct in their language. We had a maiden aunt for whom "freshen up" was the polite way to say "go to the bathroom."

But in France, if you're in a restaurant and ask for the "bathroom," the waiters will be surprised. Why would you want to take a bath in the restaurant? It is the toilet you want.

Likewise, the children of a second marriage are referred to as coming from "the second bed," which is a little too vivid for Anglo-Saxon imaginations.

But back to the procession... We made our way down a narrow path to a grotto in the valley below. There, the Virgin was placed among candles with a small fire in front, while the prayers, incantations, and hymns continued.

The path was steep, and it was easier going downhill than up again. Some of the old people found it hard to get back up out of the valley to the château on the high ground.

There, a priest, dressed in a beige, hooded outfit, said a benediction. The ceremony over, we quickly forgot all about the grieving Mary, and sat down to enjoy a gay picnic with our neighbors.

Number 79

But let's depart from the Benaize valley and refocus our attention on the subject of today: Turkey... and the collapse to come.

Turkey has only 1% of the world's GDP, and less than 5% of America's. Small potatoes, in other words. But a great wall always develops a small crack before it falls down.

The great wall we are looking at is one built by $250 trillion of debt, laid up, a billion here, a billion there, over the last 30 years.

The foundation stones were put in place in 1971, when the final tether between gold and the U.S. dollar was severed... and the greenback was cut off from the real world of time and resources.

Previously, borrowings were more or less limited by savings; savings were more or less limited by earnings; and earnings were more or less limited by the number of hours in the day.

There was plenty of room for excesses and extraordinary popular delusions in the pre-1971 world. But there was also a feedback loop that tended - however imperfectly - to prevent things from getting too far out of whack.

At the end of the day, so to speak, mistakes were corrected.

That feedback loop was made of gold. Number 79 on the periodic table, the quantity of gold couldn't be readily increased.

Credit may be created by the financial industry. But it is Main Street output that services debt. And as long as money was linked to gold, neither cash nor credit could get too far ahead of the real goods and services the economy could produce.

Infinite Money

But then, in 1971, Nixon cut the final thread between gold and the dollar. And the cornerstone of today's great wall of debt was laid.

After the foundation was in place, it took a few years for people to realize what they had to work with - an almost unlimited supply of credit.

"Money" could be created by the central banks, and magnified by the financial industry at will, earning fees for the bankers and boosting the assets of the wealthy.

Once people realized that "money" could be gotten readily, their inhibitions about spending it gradually fell away.

"Deficits don't matter," said Dick Cheney. "It would be a good thing if we didn't have [a federal debt ceiling]," chimed Ben "Courage to Act" Bernanke.

"And don't worry about the stock market," added Alan Greenspan (or words to that effect). In 1987, he made it clear that the world's most important equity market would not be allowed to correct excess debt or speculation.

That was the meaning of the "Greenspan Put." If stocks went down, the central bank would push them back up again.

How? By making more ersatz credit available on even friendlier terms.

And so it was... off to the races!

Communists... crackpots... people who lived in caves and had yet to stand fully upright... were suddenly able to cadge millions from lenders who never earned the money, never saved it, and never really worried much about losing it; after all, there was plenty more where that came from!

Why else would any sane person lend money to a Turk... an Argentine... or Elon Musk?

Why else would anyone lend at negative rates? If you lend at 20%, it takes only five years to break even. If you lend at 10%, it takes 10 years. And at 2%, it takes 50 years. The lower the rate, the more future you need.

But at negative rates, the future becomes meaningless. You'll never break even.

Ever.

Missing Future

This is not the real world; this is the phony world concocted by the U.S. dollar and its quack managers.

That is also why lenders - apparently compos mentis, wearing no ankle bracelets, and with no court orders putting their affairs in others' hands - bought Argentine bonds with 100-year maturities.

One year? One hundred years? It didn't matter... The future had gone missing.

That's what happens when a money system gets perverted by fake money. Normally, you do things in anticipation of the consequences.

You save for a rainy day. You turn down a second dessert because you know you will have to get on the scale tomorrow. You leave the pretty woman next door alone because you know her husband has a license for concealed carry.

Actions have consequences! Tomorrow comes. And the neighbor comes looking for you.

The fake dollar distorted the connection between actions and consequences. People could reap what they had not sown. They could invest savings no one had ever earned. They could borrow - big time! - knowing the future (when they would have to pay it back) would never come.

But in the real world, the future does show up... eventually.

And it rolled into the ancient capital of the Eastern Empire last week.

The Turkish lira fell as foreign investors fled and the sun rose over the Bosporus. And Donald Trump added insult to injury with further trade barriers.

Turkey has a GDP of only $900 billion. It has external debt of only $500 billion. These numbers are so small - compared to a $90 trillion world economy... and $250 trillion of debt - that investors shirk it off.

The problem is "contained," they say, echoing those famous words of Ben Bernanke in September 2007.

Then, it was Lehman Brothers that was in trouble. That crack was tiny, too; Lehman had only $619 billion in debt.

Then, too, there seemed little reason to worry. Ben Bernanke had taken over from Alan Greenspan. The Greenspan Put had become the Bernanke Put. The future could jolly well wait.

And Bernanke did come through. With nearly $4 trillion in extra central bank credit, he succeeded in reviving the wildest fantasies of the bubble era... But not before the wall had come down and the stock market had been crushed under the rubble.

A Film Discussion: Favorite Movie for Every Year of Our Lives

Full disclosure, I flat-out stole this idea from the A.V. Club. I called upon my old pal John Iatesta to compare and discuss our lists. Enjoy.

ND: I think what stands out most is the specific gaps in our resumes, mostly in the early years. So it's easy to latch onto sentimental favorites (The Brave Little Toaster, Wayne's World, Dogma) and "prestigious" films I haven't seen in years and probably haven’t age well (Rain Man, Good Will Hunting). My movie-watching intake has gone up considerably as I’ve gotten older, allowing me to explore some classics well after the fact to up my credibility ever so slightly.

I'm as surprised as anyone to see the Coen Brothers as the most represented on my list with three films (as well as yours with four), edging out Richard Linklater, Alfonso Cuaron and Paul Thomas Anderson with two apiece. I routinely try to knock Coens down a peg, but when they hit, they are masters. Inside Llewyn Davis is their crowning achievement if you ask me, melding the best of their darkest and lightest, with a powerhouse performance from Oscar Isaac to boot -- and the songs! I could watch that movie every day.

ND: Inside Llewyn Davis is so good that it managed to come out on top in my most contested year, 2013. Before Midnight and Mud are two of my all-time favorites. The former was easier to leave off with Before Sunrise's inclusion -- it's my least favorite of the trilogy, but 1995 had a clearer path than 2013 or 2004 (Before Sunset). Mud's exclusion was even more painful, leaving my list McConaughey-less

JI: I thank you for my Inside Llewyn Davis inclusion. You raved about that movie during our time at The Sports Network and it pushed me to watch it much sooner than I probably would have before. I agree with you to an extent about the Coens. I don't think they're overrated but when they miss its like Ryan Howard in the 2010 NLCS*, see: The Ladykillers and Hail, Caesar!.

*(Editor’s Note: I believe you mean the 2011 NLDS loss to the Cardinals, where Howard went 2-for-19 (.105) and ended the series with a blown-out Achilles tendon aka the downfall of the Philadelphia Phillies dynasty.)

ND: Our lists aren't so different. You have even more black comedies than me, with the four Coens, a handful of Tarantino, even Casino, Adaptation, Birdman and The Nice Guys would qualify with their mix of light and dark. I think it's important to bring levity to most dramas (though my selections of Children of Men, 21 Grams, and the works of PT Anderson run contrary), and you seem to agree. Enlighten me on your process, good man.

JI: I definitely agree with your first point in there being gaps in knowledge, but for me it’s more spotty than just one era. I found myself sometimes in the mid-2000s not having a real standout, but you aren't wrong about some movies having very strong sentimental value. Wayne's World still holds up though!

JI: Like you, my "good" movie intake has gone up as I've gotten older. I’ve developed my own taste for movies and can now afford to go see what I want. I recently saw Rain Man for the first time and while it wasn't bad, I'd agree it doesn't really hold up.

Brief aside, can we talk about Jim Carrey's 1994? Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber and The Mask. Dude was an absolute fireball that year.

ND: Jim Carrey was as integral part of my childhood as well. My brother and I used to recite Dumb and Dumber dialogue on car rides to the shore (I was Harry more often than not). But 1994 was never not going to be Pulp Fiction. It's become a cliche at this point -- film people clinging to Pulp Fiction like gospel -- but it's no exaggeration so say that discovering it changed my cinema-going outlook forever.

JI: My process was to not just choose the best in terms of critical acclaim to trumpet myself up and say "look how well versed in film I am,” but to choose movies I could actually defend as being one of my favorites. I also excluded children's or Disney movies because they lean too heavily on sentimentality and felt like they'd be a crutch. This is why a movie like Billy Madison is on my Honorable Mention list. I can recite that movie nearly line-for-line.

ND: So no to Billy Madison, but yes to Big Daddy?

JI: 1999 was just one of those years that had a bigger gap than 1995. I got halfway through Fight Club and was bored to tears, and I love Ed Norton (your long-lost brother) and Brad Pitt but I just didn't see what everyone else does. I've only seen The Matrix once and same with The Insider. And probably the two biggest omissions from that year are The Sixth Sense and The Hurricane. All those factors considered, I couldn't in good faith put a movie I've only seen once above one I've seen two dozen times. Also, I'm semi acquaintances with Peter Dante now that I'm an LA hot shot (I gagged just typing that) and his "They're not scrawny, they're nice," line gets me every time.

Maybe the hardest part for me was not finding space for a PT Anderson movie, with There Will be Blood losing a close 2007 race to Hot Fuzz, or a true Philip Seymour Hoffman movie, (The Big Lebowski doesn't count). He’s likely my favorite actor of all time. I don't think I've seen a bad performance out of him and not being able to squeeze him in any year stings.

Only one Scorsese movie from you (Goodfellas) -- probably his second best behind Raging Bull -- and only two from me (Casino, Shutter Island). He’s long been considered my favorite director but most of his best came out prior to my birth. Is this a similar issue for you, or do you not hold him in such high regard?

ND: Maybe the biggest catch with this project is the year arguably plays an even bigger role than the films themselves. So yes, I would never hesitate to put Scorsese in my top 3 favorite directors of all time, but I definitely prefer his pre-Goodfellas work (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Mean Streets) to his more recent films. Although The Departed gave Children of Men a run for its money in 2006, and The Wolf of Wall Street and Hugo made my top 10 lists in their respective years. I consider Casino to be B/B- material for Marty, though De Niro's suits suit game is elite.

I'm glad you made special mention of Philip Seymour Hoffman. We've really bonded over our love for him and I was surprised to see him shut out of your list. He's the primary reason why The Master outlasted a great 2012 field. It's a tough pill to swallow, but it gets even better as the years go on and will live on in the zeitgeist for decades. If you figure a way to live without serving a master, any master, then let the rest of us know, will you? For you'd be the first person in the history of the world.

JI: Along Came Polly was a consideration for me solely for PSH as the unforgettable Sandy Lyle.

ND: Long live PSH.

I think we both did a good job managing our sentimentality. I only have a few notable asterisks. It's been 25 years since I've watched The Brave Little Toaster, but all this time later, when I saw it listed among the 1987 films, I smiled. And in an otherwise terrible year for film (I know it's beyond your jurisdiction, youngin, but take a gander), that shit mattered the most to me. I will never apologize for 2011's The Muppets. There is preciously little in this world as important to me as the Muppets. I am forever indebted to Jason Segel for keeping their legacy alive in the spirit of Jim Henson's vision.

Can we talk about 2005, please? The consensus best pic is Brokeback Mountain, though I've regretfully never seen it. We both went with curveball selections: You with The Weatherman and me with The 40-Year-Old-Virgin. It's not my favorite Apatow production from that era (Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story stand tall above the rest), but its only real competition from 2005 was from Batman Begin and (yes, really) The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

JI: 2005 was really rough. I'm a big Nic Cage fan and The Weatherman was kind of my default favorite. Coming off of a John Wick 2 high, I recently watched Constantine for the first time and considered selecting it just because of recency bias and it wasn't even very good. Batman Begins is really good but as time goes on, I feel like the Nolan Batman trilogy has become less rewatchable for some reason, and Batman is basically the only superhero movie I like. Keaton is a personal favorite for me so I can always watch his two Batman movies.

ND: I tend to agree with you about Nolan's Batman, though I think their lack of rewatchability is in no small part due to the superhero saturation of the past decade. The tropes and cliches that are getting beat into the ground now were created in Batman Begins, so it deserves a lot of credit for that. Anyway, neither of us picked a Batman film, so back to 2005 -- I remember liking The Weatherman! No one's had a more interesting career than Nic Cage. And he's still got the goods (see David Gordon Green's Joe).

JI: Cage definitely can still bring it, the problem is he's become such a joke to most people it feels like he can't break that persona even when he does get a really good role/performance like Joe.

ND: I'm ready for a Cage Renaissance. We can call it the CageWakening. Not as catchy as the McConaissance, I admit.

JI: I’m dying for it.

JI: Along with you, I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain, nor sadly have I seen Capote -- huge PSH gap for me -- so I was just kind of stuck on my choice. The 40-Year-Old Virgin, while good, just drags on too long, which I guess has become a common complaint against Apatow projects.

Fun note about the Muppets, when I was a little kid my mom took me to Muppet Treasure Island and we had to leave halfway through because it scared me too much. I was probably three at the time, so I feel this shouldn't be a ding against me here.

ND: Muppet Treasure Island is a trash movie anyway. Barely canon.

JI: What method did you use to find all the movies from each year? I went through Wikipedia Year in Film for each year and it led to some fun surprises along the way. It made me look at someone like Chris Evans and wonder where his career would be now without Captain America? I mean he had to the two Fantastic Four flops, The Perfect Score (Scar Jo and Darius Miles!) and Cellular, a movie I didn’t even know existed.

ND: Don't forget the other Chris Evans' classic, 2009's Push, whose biggest claim to fame is getting Liongate to actually title a film Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire to avoid confusion.

JI: I didn't know Push existed either. Man, he better be thanking Marvel every single day.

ND: I too used good ole Wikipedia as my aid, though for my all-time favorites (Eternal Sunshine, In Bruges, Goodfellas), I plugged them in an left them there -- no use looking for anyone to dethrone them. I also looked at the lists of film critics I trust to maybe jog my memory on things I might have glossed over, which was the case for Wong Kar-wai's In the Mood For Love, one of my favorite recent discoveries that just happened to be released in a very weak year. And that got me thinking of other foreign films I love that might have been omitted on Wikipedia, like Eric Rohmer's A Summer's Tale. I’m the first to admit that these are my token pretentious picks, but they are both lovely little talky films that find relatable drama in human emotional, which is my cinematic wheelhouse (see: Linklater).

ND: I need to hear the Paul story. A Pegg/Frost movie without Edgar Wright? I saw it and remember liking it fine but forgot all about it the minute I left the theater.

JI: Paul is a mix of a connection I have due to seeing a free early screening of it at Temple with our mutual friend Jason "Ball is Life" Quint and winning a poster at said screening and that 2011 is kind of a weak year. The year of The Artist! Also, I just really liked Paul's cast, Frost and Pegg are always great together along with Jason Bateman and Bill Hader and it just hit a lot of the right notes for me in an exceptionally weak year for truly outstanding movies.

ND: I mean, I picked The Muppets for 2011, so I can't knock an unconventional selection.

JI: Since its early into 2017, did you have any other real contenders for this year's movies or was it hands down Get Out? It was a very close race for me between Get Out and John Wick 2 but ultimately went John Wick 2 because its so rewatchable. I saw it opening weekend twice, back-to-back nights. Only other movie I've seen from this year is Kong: Skull Island, which was good but not close to the level of those two for me.

ND: I originally wasn't going to pick a 2017 movie for the same reason you mentioned: the sample size just isn't big enough yet. It's unlikely Get Out will be my favorite of the year when it's all said and done, but it definitely stands out in a typically weak January-March. Logan got some consideration; it plays more like a western than a superhero movie, and any departure from the comic book formula is welcomed. I enjoyed Kong just fine but it's still a ways off from "best." I have yet to hop aboard the John Wick bandwagon. I'm sure I'll enjoy the ride once I'm there.

You're successive screening of John Wick 2 reminded me of a similar experience from my childhood, coincidentally with another Keanu movie. I saw a matinee of Hardball with my grandfather one Saturday afternoon, only to find out afterwards that my friends were going to see it that night. I didn't even like it that much, but I didn't want to be left out either. I can't recall if I've ever gone for a rewatch on back-to-back nights, though the odds are strong it happened during one of my four theater viewings of the first Spider-Man. I was a strange teen.

JI: John Wick is a thrill ride you won't want to end. My situation with that was similar to yours with Hardball. Made plans for the Saturday showing with a friend but Friday afternoon another friend texted me wanting to go so I didn't want to flake on either and went twice. Did not regret my decision.

I got you beat! I saw the Spider-Man five times in theaters, which thinking about it now I don't know why I saw it that many times. I also saw Men in Black II five times in theaters thanks to my dad wanting to go that many times. Two very odd movies to see that many times.

ND: Who knew we had so many uber-specific things in common. I can feel our friendship growing by the minute.

JI: As we're winding down on our actual lists, what movies are you most looking forward to for the rest of the year? For me right now Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and The Last Jedi are at the top for me. Dunkirk could be interesting but its tough to get hyped over a movie with a tone like that, especially during July rather than the expected December release. The Dark Tower should be good especially with Elba and McConaughey, but I didn't read the books so I don't have a built in excitement for it like others likely will. A few other interesting ones should be the next Kingsman movie, I thought the first one was really fun and the new IT. I loved the TV miniseries as a kid and am interested to see how they can possibly top Tim Curry as Pennywise. And of course there's the usual slate of sequels coming this year. Did you know that Bad Moms is not only getting a sequel but a spin-off as well with Bad Dads, both coming out in 2017?

ND: As far as blockbusters go, Guardians and The Last Jedi shouldn't disappoint. I didn't love Rogue One but very much enjoyed The Force Awakens, and I trust Rian Johnson even more than J.J. Abrams to carry the torch. Blade Runner 2049 looks incredible -- Villeneuve can do no wrong. Dunkirk looks good, though I've been lukewarm on Nolan's recent efforts. I'm tempering my expectations for The Dark Tower, considering how rocky preproduction has been. It would be a shame to waste such a great cast. Despite Bad Moms earning me some valuable points in last summer's Fantasy Box Office League, I will not be indulging in their further money grabs.

Digging a little deeper, the trailer for Martin McDonagh's latest, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, just dropped and looks like a blast.It's been five years since our last McDonagh, and I'm hopeful this is more In Bruges than Seven Psychopaths (which I still liked).

ND: We're getting another Alex Garland/Oscar Isaac collaboration in Annihilation, and if it's anywhere near as good as Ex Machina, I'm all-in. Destin Daneil Cretton is releasing his long-awaited follow-up to 2012's outstanding Short Term 12 with The Glass Castle, also starring Brie Larson. And don't look now, but it looks like we're getting a Paul Thomas Anderson/Daniel Day-Lewis reunion next Oscar season. Huzzah.

JI: Ahh yes PTA and DDL reuniting for a movie about 50's era London fashion. I know it won't disappoint but so oddly specific.

ND: Is there anything else we need to discuss before wrapping up? Has this inspired you to catch up on any older flicks? I've got Brokeback Mountain and You Can Count on Me (Kenneth Lonergan's debut) queued up.

JI: It’s definitely made me want to go back and fill in a bunch of holes. Possibly starting with rounding out my PSH gaps with Magnolia and Capote.

One final note from me, Jackie Brown is criminally underrated and my favorite QT movie. He says anyone of this mindset doesn't really like his movies because he didn't write and to that I say, you don't determine my taste, Quentin.

ND: Jackie Brown was on my 1997 shortlist for sure. Under-the-radar-great.

CONSUMERS COURT ORDERS: DEVELOPERS CANNOT HOLD ON CONVEYANCE DEEDS In a series of great court orders that may came as a relief to thousands of housing societies languishing while not a conveyance deed the patron court recently command that a developer will now not hold on to conveyance on the grounds that he must perform any construction on the plot. Quite eightieth of the housing societies in Mumbai don't have the conveyance deed for his or her building, the document transferring the plot to the housing society or the flat purchasers. Most developers don't execute the conveyance deed as they need to use the improvement potential of the plot or any extra construction rights on the plot in future.
