This piece of terrain has been a source of disappointment and anguish in myself as a painter. It was first painted the end of last year. Put many hours into it and called it done. Shoved it in my glass cabinet with the rest of my finished work. Usually when I finish a model I feel good. My reaction is to take pictures and share them online, but not with this piece. I felt no accomplishment or interest to share it anywhere.
Every time I walked past my ikea cabinets and glanced at it, I just felt it was almost taunting me. I don’t know why. I subconsciously stooped into an unhelpful mindset... Why put so much time to painting something if it’ll end up giving me no satisfaction? At this point I had not finished a painting project in almost half a year. This piece of terrain was the last one I painted.
I needed to return to this piece for my motivation’s sake. I needed to make it work in my eyes or I couldn’t bother to paint any other projects. I reworked the whole yellow, added more weathering, changed some colors on some of the details. After hours spent this past week or so... I finally don’t hate it anymore. It’s like a weight would’ve lifted for some reason. Perhaps somebody shares similar experiences with their work or it could just be me. In any case, I’m feeling the spark to paint coming back to me.
The terrain was built with the 40k platform kits, plasticard and Fogou Models wasteland shacks, greenstuff, string and pieces from my bits box.
