This will probably destroy the rest of the wanky community so this is a hot take
Out of all of the arcs of that I've read
Out of all the characters I've seen and met in wangan fucking midnight
Koichi hiramoto is probably the most uninteresting character out of all of wm.
Like I don't hate him I just can't get myself to think about this guy that I kinda forgot he just existed at all. Heck I think megumi (his WIFE) and harada are more likely to spin around on my head and get on the thinkcoster simply because of their character.
His arc is also pretty forgettable for me as well and I don't get bonker shit crazy about it. Yea sure he messed up but he didn't double think if buying a car simply just to meet the Z is a good idea since koichi KNEW it would upset megumi and break their plan to move and open a shop in miyazaki, and that was all when she was pregnant as well. That all wouldn't have turned bad if just he thought about it again and realised that maybe just heading back to street racing just to see and race the Devil Z and Blackbird isn't worth it and it's better to focus on the future with megumi and their child.
*imagine a puppet jumping around* "but fannnnng, aren't the testa, RGO and supra arc kinda like that too?"
Yes but it's pretty different compared to hiramoto
Ishida was ignorant as well but it was towards his own health that the most "idgaf" character (tatsuya/BB) started to actually give a shit and worry about him since he was slowly and slowly deteriorating over cancer and telling him at points to just go to the hospital to get himself better else it would be too late, also history repeated itself because DAD (if I went over yoshis daddy issues this would be much longer)
Masaki returned only because he wanted to see if his legacy still holds on (as the previous king of wangan) as a 35 year old with a once close friend of his as well as to see the machine that almost killed him once in it's true form.
Kei worked hard as a host to tune his car and kept going on even tho his friends have moved on before he could because, again, DEAD DAD (affectionate). But because of said dad the tuners he was friends with before his death and made his legacy continue even more thru keichirou by also making his supra into a machine that can "defeat the Z". Kei also had Tatsuya (the other one), who slowly gain keis trust in driving to his final race and would accept his fate if anything happens.
*imagine the puppet again* "but they also seem to chase the Z!"
As if thats the whole thing of wangan midnight.
Yes, but for hiramoto it was mostly that. He saw the Devil Z burnt to a crisp and already went to get an R just for a run with it and that's it. Would the arc be more interesting to see if he DID win? probably, but yet the R was for what cost? Ishida, masaki and kei get to keep their cars even after they gave up with running, but Koichi doesn't since he repays the money he lost buying the skyline by selling it to his boss so at this point the car was just nothing, after DAYS of having be tuned. I mean, good on him for selling it and getting the money back but the Skyline was just for nothing at this point.
That's the whole thing about the arc, he only got a car to then tune only to race the Devil Z and Blackbird then give up on it right after and selling off the car. All for a fight with Street devils with a "Dragon" GTR.
Again, this would have been better if Koichi just double thought about going back to the road and I think the spotlight shouldve been given to harada. Yes, baby harada even if he's a bit of an akio clone, hes still full of questions. Why is he racing at Bayshore? Who the fuck are EXCITING? Does he still race? Does he still have his 300Z? We don't fuckin know so I think the whole arc shouvdve been about him (I also liked his race alot more then koichis)
I will say this again, I dont hate hiromoto I just think he's a really uninteresting and boring character to the point that I just forget about him. His arc isn't that tragic in a way that people would like to think, the most tragic to me still (for now) is testa arc because 2 people almost die (ishida and akio in their crashes/deterioration), and the one thing Koichi almost lost is his wife and most of his money but he gained it back by selling it and getting to Miyazaki, he all did that over a dinky blue car that goes really fast.
Thanks to my long ted talk over a character.
