PSA Dissipator Upper (or as I like to call it, the 'Dissapointer')

Picked this up mostly on a whim to fool around with. Going to do unholy things to it later. Thought I'd give my two cents on my initial impressions.

I overall really like the angle they were going for - here they re-created the Bushmaster style of 'Dissipator' (aka actual Dissipators) where the rifle-length FSB is a dummy and a shorter gas system is concealed beneath the handguard.

In this case, a mid-length gas system is used instead of carbine length and a low-profile gas block is used instead of a chopped FSB like the Bushys used. In theory, this gives the performance associated with a midlength system with the greater accuracy of rifle-length sights. I'm sure it's mostly negligible, but it's fun to think about.

Now here's where the criticisms come in - the low-profile gas block itself has only one dimple for the set screw, with the other merely tightened up against the outer diameter of the barrel. The barrel itself is a 'Freedom' barrel, PSA's in-house brand.

It was definitely made after the fact using a stock barrel, rather than purpose-made for the build. Supposedly there was a run of these using FN barrels, but I didn't notice it. This would be a good excuse to send the barrel off for getting the gas block pinned, but I think I'd much rather buy a higher quality mid-length barrel and get it custom made into a similar setup from scratch.

Not much to say about the rest of it, just basic low-tier flat top upper, standard A2 birdcage, the works. I'm mostly going to be using it as a testbed, so expect cursed things to come of this build in the future.

Joey HC: Weapons & Aim

**Placed under a read more due to sensitive topics of g*ns and weaponry**

Weapons in his arsonal:

Joey has a Concealed Carry license and does carry weaponry on him at all times. He has three guns total which include a Winchester XPR 30-06 bolt-action rifle, a Heckler & Koch P7 squeeze-cocking pistol and an FN Five-Seven 5.7 MM pistol. The 30-06 remains in a locked gun safe within his home and is there in case someone were to ever break in.

He always carries his FN Five-Seven on his belt at all times, though it's in a gun holder and always covered by his shirt or jacket. His Heckler & Koch he mainly has as a backup in case his Five-Seven were ever to stop working and us currently kept in the gun safe with his 30-06.

These weapons are a last-resort only precaution that he's had since he was a teenager and he has never had to use them (much to his joy), only having to flash his main pistol one time though no shots were fired. He likes having it as more of a bluff than to use it as an actual deadly weapon, but if it comes down to it he will use it if he absolutely has to.

Aiming capabilities:

Joey has lots of practice aiming at the shooting range, including having gotten practice with realistic Ballistics dummies as well. He has also had practice with moving fake targets as well.

Because of this, Joey has extremely good aim and rarely ever misses his mark. It's not necessarily something he's proud of, but at the same time he knows it is necessary if the situation arises where he needs to pull out his last resort to defend himself or his loved ones.

He prefers to warn and negotiate first and, preferably, only have to use his weapon as a warning by simply letting a threat understand that he does have it and, if necessary, knows how to use it.

Do his friends know that he carries?

To put it simply, none of his friends or family know that he has a conceal carry license or that he carries a weapon. They do know he has his 30-06 rifle as that is in a rather noticeable gun safe, however they don't know he carries a pistol on him.

Joey doesn't enjoy the fact that he feels he has to carry a weapon at his side in order to feel safe, though when the time comes he knows it may come as a shock to them, he also refuses to take any chances when it comes to his safety or that of his loved ones and friends.

Rust Compiler Performance Triage

A week dominated by one particular perf improvement that lead to huge performance gains - an avg of 5% improvement across 121 test cases! The perf improvement comes from adding an #[inline] hint to the output from #[derive(Debug)] which presumably allows the compiler to more easily do deadcode elimination reducing the binary size and the amount of code that actually needs to be code-gened.

"Good morning, fn" you whip your head around to that all too familiar voice.

"Hey, Harry. What's up?"

"Just the usual, haha....." he pauses to look up for a moment at someone walking past behind you. You turn just in time to catch a glimpse of gorgeous blond hair that can only belong to one person......Draco Malfoy.

"You ready for class?" He continues one his archenemy is out of earshot.

"Yeah, charms today right?" You respond.

"Yup."

"Can't wait" you say unenthusiastically.

Harry let's out about half a laugh when he spots Hermione.

"Well, I'll see you in class."

"See ya." You nod as he takes off to sit with his other friends. You sit quietly at the breakfast table for a few minutes, sipping your hot chocolate. It's your third year at hogwarts. You've made a good number of friends the last few years, but there's only two people you'd really care to talk two....and ironically enough they hate each other. You wonder why Harry and Draco clash so much. 'If only they could overcome their differences, they could honestly be such good friends.' you think to yourself. 'Hmm....what if-' your thoughts are interrupted as Draco sits down next to you.

"So what business does the scarhead have to say to you?" He asks mockingly. You give him a look that fully shows your annoyance with term he used for your friend, but you've somewhat gotten used to it by now.

"Nothing much, just class." You respond coldly.

"What about it?" He presses.

"Just that we're doing charms today"

"Yeah, so?" His controlling demeanor is starting to get to you

"So maybe you should mind your own business." You snap. "What, you jealous or something?"

"Of what? You? Course not. There's nothing to be jealous over."

"Whatever." Is all you can manage. He let's out a laugh. He got you and he knows it. But you'll make him pay for it later. After all, he's to be your partner in class today. That'll allow for plenty opportunities for revenge in your little game. Then something hits you.

"You know, I would have expected a little louder bark coming from such a shaggy dog." You pass a mischievous glance toward him.

"A what?" He responds, acting almost offended.

"You heard me. A. Shaggy. Dog.... If your hair gets any longer, I won't be the only one who couldn't tell the difference." He just glares at you. "You really should get it cut before it contaminates what's left of your 'good looks'."

"No." He replies sternly. If there's one thing Draco loves, it's his hair. Now you've got HIM.

"Come on, I've been practicing. You should let me do it."

"Oh hell no." He protests. You just laugh. Eventually he gives into a smirk. Now that you are even, you both continue breakfast with some casual conversation until the two of you head to class.

"Good morning everyone." Starts Filius, "since you have all been doing very well the last few weeks, I've decided to give you one day to master whatever spell you would like. Once you've decided what you wish to do, you will come get my approval, and begin." The students all begin whispering to each other at this incredible opportunity.

"What should I do?" You hear from one after another.

"How bout a spell for a haircut?" You mention to Draco.

"You still on that!?" He could almost be annoyed now. You smirk at him.

"Yup" he just roles his eyes.

"Well, go ahead....but I'm not going to be your dummy if that's what you were hoping for."

"Fine, I dare you." You challenge. He turns and starts to walk away.

"What, you scared?" He freezes. "Chicken." You know you've finally gotten a little under his skin and smile to yourself. He turns his head and glares at you.

"Never. Fine! After class, we'll meet at the room of requirement and it better be good or you'll owe me!"

"Owe you what?" You clarify. He crosses his arms.

"That depends. I'll determine that when the time comes."

"Deal."

You laugh to yourself on the inside at your victory. Class had never before seemed to take so long! Finally, it's over an you rush to the room of requirement. The only room that seems somewhat private(aside from your dorms which neither of you could both enter). You step inside to find Draco already sitting inside, arms and legs crossed with a frustrated glare on his face. You laugh to yourself at the sight. 'He's always so stubborn' you think.

"Ready for your torture session?" You joke.

"Hmph."

"Awe, poor baby. So serious." You tease.

"Let's just get this over with" he sighs.

"Alright" you say enthusiastically. Your shears appear in front of you. You're not too familiar with the room of requirement, but you've heard it magically creates whatever it is you need in the moment. You take the shears and perform a couple teasing snips before you start. You begin to sift his soft, white hair through your fingers. 'Dang, this feels good!' you think to yourself. Over about 20-30mins or so, you recreate his perfect shape, now no longer in the way of his eyes and falls perfectly around his face. He refuses to make eye contact as you check for the evenness of his bangs, your face inches away from his. You make a couple final snips before your satisfied. 'Alright. I've won you think.

"K, your done." He shakes his head. "Now that wasn't so bad was it?" You continue as you pass him a mirror. He blankly stares at it for a few seconds.

"Well?" You ask impatiently.

"It's horrible." He responds. 'WHAAAAT!!??' you scream internally. You can feel heat building up inside you, but you resist the urge and keep your cool.

"What did you say?" You ask as calmly as you can.

"It sucks! I hate it!" He affirms. That's it. You begin to lose it. "You owe me now!" He continues. Now you're boiling over and you finally blow.

"You know what. Fuck you! I love you, but you can be such a jerk sometimes! It looks good! And-" you're interrupted as a pair of lips crash into yours. You pause for a moment confused as he pulls away.

"What was that?" You question.

"Like I said." He responds "YOU OWE ME." he smirks. You're slightly taken aback as you realize what he meant. He takes a step closer, puts his hand under your chin, and steals another, softer kiss. It all makes sense now. The "private" room where there will be no one to disturb you, riling you up to challenge him, not to mention him ultimately agreeing to "your" terms.

"You were planning this from the beginning weren't you?" He smiles. "You sly dog." You comment as you put your arms around him for the first time.

"But not a shaggy one, thanks to you" he quietly replies. You let out a little laugh. He places his hands on your waste and starts kissing the side of your neck as he pulls you closer. He pauses for a moment and you feel him smile as he looks up slightly. You glance out of the corner of your eye to the edge of the room where there's now a bed.

"Was that there before?" You ask. Draco looks you dead in the eyes and smirks.

"I guess the room really does know exactly what we need." You give him half a smile as you start to consider what may be coming next. He reburies his face in your neck and starts slowly walking you towards the bed. When you bump it, he releases for a moment to let you crawl in, and then resumes showering you with kisses as he follows on top of you. He now seems to feel a little more enthusiastic and almost....needy. He moves in on you. You never knew he felt like this way about you. Now it's obvious just how much he wants you. How much he NEEDS you. All you want to do now is show him how much you feel the same way. You pull him even closer to you(if that's even possible at this point). He pauses for a moment, staring at your neck. You wonder what he was looking at, but you don't really care. You have him. That's all that matters.

"Malfoy.......Draco. I love you. I have for a long time. I hope you know that" you say with a tear in your eye. He just smiles and gives you a long, deep kiss. Afterwards you both laugh a little.

"Now I do." He responds. You smile up at him content. You both remain in that bed for the next few hours...resting, talking, occasional kisses, etc. You realize it must be getting late and you both decide it's best to return to your dorms. As you walk past the mirror, you spot a bruise on your neck. 'oh' you think 'this must be what he was staring at earlier' you blush at the thought. Suddenly you feel him wrap his arms around you from behind. He pulls your hair out of the way and gently kisses the bruise one last time.

"Until tomorrow then?" He whispers in your ear.

"Yeah" you respond with a smile. "Until tomorrow."

Finn pressed his forehead to Poe's and gripped the back of his neck. He closed his eyes, wanting to take in his essence, his presence, before he departed. When Finn made to move away, Poe pulled him back in for a bone crushing hug. Finn didn't cry. He was scared but he knew Poe was scared too.

When he was situated in a ship, coordinates already put in, he heard Poe's voice through his headset.

"The moment I think this is going south, I'm pulling you out. Don't be a hero."

Finn grinned. "Didn't you know the Resistance is full of heroes? I'm in love with one of them."

"Finn, you're connected to the bridge", Rose said. "Everyone can hear you."

"I'M IN LOVE WITH POE DAMERON!", Finn shouted to the top of his lungs before taking off.

Being back here had Finn on edge. He had expected as much, given the mission. But what was worse about it was that this was one of his most haunting nightmares. That he'd wake up one day and everything had been a dream. Sometimes it was simply patrolling the halls with a fellow trooper in an all too familiar march. Other times it was him looking in the mirror, seeing he had his helmet on, and being able to remove it.

Finn's heart picked up and once he felt it pounding he remembered why he was here. He was the only one who could do this. And he couldn't be scared away. Not when so much was at stake. His heart slowed. He was being taken to Kylo Ren after requesting an audience with him. A stormtrooper normally couldn't make such demands, much less a treasonous one. But Finn wasn't just anyone. And that was something Kylo knew.

"Have you come to surrender?"

Finn looked him in the mask, now covered in angry red lines between cracks. Finn wasn't scared of him, just what he could do.

"Better", Finn said. "I've come to join you."

The mask revealed nothing but Finn imagined he looked pretty lost right now.

"You left. And now you think you can just come back?"

"I think I have information you'd like. I think that what you call betrayal, I call the long con", Finn said, gesturing to himself with cuffed hands.

"You're a double agent. No one gave you that order."

"No one had to. I gave it to myself. I live for the First Order. And I did what I had to do so that we could destroy the Resistance." The words felt like sludge in his mouth, but he forced himself to believe it. It was the only way to get these people to trust him. And he could recite the rhetoric in his sleep.

He had already been searched for weapons on his way in, and of course they found a blaster on him, he wasn't an idiot. And it was their way to always come prepared. Coming unarmed would have been suspicious. It was only when he and Kylo were left alone that he discussed the terms of the info he carried.

He wasn't going to go back to being FN-2187. He had risen above that. He demanded real power, which is exactly what a member of the First Order would do. He could feel Kylo Ren trying to look into him, trying to discern any hidden motives. Finn pushed the real anger and real conviction to the forefront of his mind. When his terms were met with agreement, he secretly thanked Rey.

She had said that Kylo was facing his own identity crisis the last time they met and probably still was. That much was confirmed now. Finn felt a little bad for him, but he'd run out of sympathy for this man.

Finn had to admit, he got a thrill sitting among the generals and lieutenants and feeding them false information. In the making of this plan, the Resistance had set up dummy bases, codes, and battle plans. No one should get hurt, but it would keep the First Order running around for a bit while Finn passed on good intel to Poe. Those were his favorite parts of the day.

He had trained hard and long with Rey in order to do this. When the work day ended, Finn went to his private quarters, slowed his breathing, closed his eyes, and thought about Poe.

He felt a warm flicker amidst the cold and knew he had found him. Poe was surely asleep, as that was the only way they could do this. Finn's sensitivity to the Force allowed him to reach out and connect with unguarded minds, them being unconscious made it much easier. Rey acting as a middle man allowed the three of them to have conversations like this across space.

'Miss me?', Finn asked.

'Everyday', Poe replied. 'But it's almost over. So don't do anything reckless.'

'...About that-'

'I just said-!'

'What if I said I've been talking with the other stormtroopers and we might be able to stage a rebellion across the Order?'

There was a very long pause as Poe said nothing for a while. But it didn't matter. Across their bond, Finn felt everything. He felt the incredible wash of love, admiration, disbelief, awe, and fear. Finn's role was only supposed to be espionage, not actual fighting. But Poe of all people couldn't tell him not to fight. Finn gave him and Rey more details when a shiver ran down his spine.

He cut the connection and looked to his door. He went over and opened it and as he had expected, Kylo was there.

"Can I help you?", Finn asked.

"I thought I felt something...strange coming from here."

Finn rolled his eyes. "A soldier who doesn't take orders anymore. I'm a different breed alright. Good night."

Finn was shouting orders as he watched his brethren fight. Some had removed just their helmet, some their entire armor, others had chosen to wear it into battle, but adorn and individualize themselves with different markings, attachments, and other modifications to the stormtrooper ensemble. If Finn reached out, he knew he could feel Poe fighting in the skies above. It was that exact reason that he didn't, not wanting to distract himself right now.

But while he didn't reach out, it didn't mean others connected to the Force couldn't reach in. He knew when he felt something hot rush through him.

Rey.

'NO! You have NO ONE! You push everyone away! And when they try to help you, you KILL THEM!'

Hundreds of thousands of miles away, she faced off against Kylo Ren. Despite the distance, Finn heard her voice like she was right next to him. And he didn't just hear her, he felt her. He knew who she was thinking about and suddenly it was as if he was connected through the entire universe through her. He felt Poe, Rose, every freedom fighter and the enemy they shot down. Every scared child and every apathetic person, worn from years of oppression. Every life was one with him, and he with them.

'I have the entire galaxy on my side', Rey said, striking the final blow.

After hours of celebration, Finn leaned into Poe's side, his eyes barely able to remain open. He fought sleep, still scared that it would all be a dream. Rey sat next to them, eating what must be her twelfth plate of food but Finn wasn't going to tell her to slow down. She'd earned this.

"I say, I do hope this is the end of all this reckless behavior", Threepio said. "You trio are quite a handful."

"I could do with a break from reckless", Poe said, surprising everyone. "What?", he said when he saw their expressions of shock. "I've matured~"

"Yes and we're very proud", Finn said, kissing his cheek.

"Speak for yourself", Rey spoke with one side of her mouth and chewed with the other. "About the recklessness!", she clarified. "I haven't even gotten started."

"Alright, I'm going to sleep before you do something that gives me a heart attack. Poe, you coming?" Finn rose to his feet and stretched.

"Absolutely." Poe was ready to sleep like the dead, and then tomorrow start living like someone with a future.

On their way back to their room, he grabbed Finn's hand and kissed it. What a future it shall be.

hey Eva, first of all your blog is cool and interesting and nice. So i got me a new phone 2 weeks ago, insralled GF, flashforward to this evening - i dont have any resources, i run out of cores, all my eshelons are 50ish level and i cant beat 4-6. I guess i mught have stupid :( Gimme any advices please or i dunno. Sorry for bothering you, dont know who else to ask/

So! First of all, sorry for my late reply!

Now, on the topic of resources. Try to have logistics running as often as possible. I assume you've only got the starting 4 echelons, so try to have at least one squad constantly out for missions, though two is better. Before you head to bed or any time you're not gonna be playing for a while, send all four echelons on missions. Try to prioritize ammo and rations the most, cause that's what you'll use the most.

For other resources, try to complete as many daily, weekly, and career missions as you can. Additionally, look at the achievements in the Index tab. You can get plenty of things like gems and tokens for free. With tokens you can roll gacha for dorm furniture, which increases dorm comfort, and in turn gives you more batteries daily. Use the batteries to upgrade facilities.

With facilities, some of the most important ones to max as soon as possible are the Data Room and the Forward Basecamp. The better your Data Room, the more exp you earn, which you can then turn into combat reports and fast-track your dolls to high levels. The FOB is great because you basically get free stuff. A small(ish) amount of resources gets currencies that can be used on the black market shop. Sometimes you also get things like cores, tokens, and even 4 or 5 star gear!

But the black market is good because you can get resources like combat reports, cores, and batteries in huge supply quickly. To make the best of the expeditions, use the advantaged dolls as often as possible. They give far better bonuses than just high level dolls. (Though high level helps a bit.) Also, pets determine where your expedition is most likely to explore and therefore what resource they are most likely to collect. Dogs like the snow, cats like the city, birds like the forest, and "others" bring you to the wasteland.

On that note, upgrading the pet rescue centre is helpful to the FOB. More pets means you're more likely to have the advantaged pets of the week. Also, pets in a dorm give a bonus 1000 comfort points up to three pets per dorm, meaning more batteries. Which means you can buy more pets and upgrades. Lots of growth in GFL is exponential.

Now, back to some of the other resources I was talking about. Gems. The gacha currency that lets you buy the other gacha currency. Some of the most important investments for your early game gems are echelons and dorms. More echelons means you can have more teams on logistics runs. More dorms means more batteries. Extra repair slots are also nice, so that can be a secondary goal for your gems. The monthly gem card is a good deal if you're willing to spend some money. 5 bucks (Canadian) gets you 30 gems a day for 30 days, 900 total. Sometimes there's also a rate up on the cards, getting 60 daily for a week.

Next, let's talk about things that burn resources. One of the things I did at the start was not at all understand crafting. More resources aren't immediately better. There's plenty of guides on maximizing your resource value per roll, providing you know what you want to roll for. For your four daily crafts of dolls (this gets you a free token, same for equipment!) either go bare minimum, or 130, 130, 130, 30. This can get you a decent chance at 3, 4, and 5 star dolls for low prices, and if you get duplicates of dolls you've trained, you can retire them for 1, 3, and 5 cores respectively. (However, many 5 star pistols are among the few dolls that are truly worth raising duplicates of.)

At the same time however, higher rarity dolls are expensive to raise, especially early on. If you don't have a duplicate of a doll when dummy linking, you will use cores. 2 stars will need: 1, 1, 2, and 3. 3 stars will need: 3, 3, 6, and 9. 4 stars will need: 9, 9, 18, and 27. 5 stars will need: 15, 15, 30, and 45 cores for maxed dummy links. See how this can burn cores? Especially when you're more likely to have duplicates of less rare dolls?

Try to focus on some of the better 2 and 3 star dolls! You'll find that plenty of dolls are better (or worse) than their stars suggest.

Of 2 stars, M1911, M1895, PPK, M3, MP 40, FN-49, BM-49 (VM-49), G3, Galil, SIG-510, LWMMG, MP-446, and cutecat IDW have all done me well.

From the 3 star pool: M9, G17, Ingram, Skorpion, STEN, M14, (quite possibly one of the best girls in the game, even pre-MOD3 she can beat many 5 star rifles and ARs!) SV-98, FNC, M2 HB, and GSh-18 are choices I've found quite helpful.

Raising many of these dolls is also good because later you can unlock their "MOD" upgrades, 1 through 3. This gives them extra abilities, better stats, unique equipment, new art, and some side stories! Though this is more endgame content.

Another thing. Even though I listed a few MGs in there, for now, try to avoid MGs, and also shotguns. They use lots of ammo and rations respectively. They're more for endgame or weird stuff.

As for getting through lots of the early story. Use the AR Team members. Do not sleep on them. Eventually they will become purposely overpowered for story reasons because of MOD3. They are some of your best dolls for just melting enemies, and M4 is special in that her buff tiles effect ARs instead of SMGs.

For most earlier content, teams made of ARs and SMGs are best. Steady damage and SMGs have good evasion to stay in the fight longer. You can maybe mix a pistol or rifle in there for buffs, or if you need to kill other snipers. Rifle dolls, unlike other units, target the enemies furthest away (within range) first, and work forward. This makes them good for preventing your tanks from getting shredded by snipers with accuracy that out classes your evasion.

Also, having "dummy" echelons can help with clearing maps cheaply. If you are cleaning enemies off a map, you can probably get away with having an echelon for combat, and others that only need to capture nodes. So since they are not going into combat, you can use a single pistol doll for very minimal resource loss if they have to retreat.

As for 4-6 you can likely beat it by having a strong echelon rush to Intruder as soon as possible, with another echelon defending your command post. An ARSMG team should work quite well against her, with the SMGs dodging her attacks and the ARs chipping at her health. As a general tip, flash grenade skills do not affect bosses, but other grenades do, and this can make smoke grenades a good choice as they lower enemy ROF and movement speed. The ROF debuff can keep pressure off your dolls for a little bit. If you need to, have a third echelon behind the one you spawn in the north if they get too beat up getting to Intruder. Then have the fresh squad attack her instead.

Uh. I think that's all. A lot of rambling from me. Probably didn't make it as clear as it should be. But hey, I'm trying, and honestly I'm still sorta noob-ish myself. Make Ralsei Say Heck No (Part 2)

As specified in Part 1, it’s quite odd Ralsei is so cooperative, submissive, and eager to help Lightners even when not explicitly asked to do so. He practically can’t say no, even to absurd or outrageous demands.1 Even to Susie, it takes a while for him to become the slightest bit assertive, visibly frustrated with her, or otherwise non-apologetic and submissive.

Why is this so?

Option 1: Lack of a Choice

Ralsei may believe he has no choice but to be a Delta Warrior, so he must act as hero-like as he can. He apparently thinks hero-like behavior is cooperative, polite, and peaceful, at least relative to Susie’s aggression.

To Kris, he says:

“As heroes we have the power to make a peaceful future. So from now on let's try to avoid FIGHTing OK?”

Later, after listing three instances of Susie’s aggression and how bad it was, he tells Susie:

“Susie...Whether you like it or not...You're a hero. One with the power to bring peace to the future. Could you please start... acting like one?”

Furthermore, he strongly believes getting by without fighting will ensure a happy ending to their tale, and if not, the result will not be “favorable”. Ralsei therefore might think he must be the best hero possible to ensure the best ending, or perhaps to ensure a happy ending to the tale at all.

Counterpoints

As much as he talks about non-violence, he does goes along with Kris’s orders, even if it’s to beat up people not even affiliated with the Spade King’s armies. Regardless of whether he beats people up, he remains polite and cooperative.

Option 2: Delta Warrior at All Costs

It’s also possible Ralsei believes he does have a choice to be one of the Delta Warriors, as a “prince from the dark”. He believes serving Lightners is the only way for Darkners to feel truly fulfilled, and Seam and the Spade King corroborated part of Ralsei’s claim. Ergo, being one of the Delta Warriors would not only let him assist Lightners, but be able to interact with two of them a lot, and so feel very fulfilled.

However, Ralsei isn’t the only “prince from the dark”: there’s also Lancer. (If he didn’t know that at the beginning, he surely learns it early on in the journey.) More specifically, as Lancer has actual subjects, he has a greater claim to the position. If Ralsei makes himself a valuable, pleasing party member, Kris and Susie won’t go searching for other princes from the dark.

The interpretation is suggested in the following dialogue:

Lancer: Just walking along with you guys...Feels nice. Like I'm doing something... important. Ralsei: That's because you're alongside the Lightners, Lancer. Our purpose—Darkners' purpose—is to assist them. It's the only way we can feel truly fulfilled.”

Strangely, Ralsei doesn’t exactly look happy when he says “It’s the only way we can feel truly fulfilled”, suggesting his desire is deeper than just wanting a fun adventure.

Option 3: Friend Desperation

Overlapping with Option 2, Ralsei may be so desperate to be friends with Kris and Susie that he doesn’t have any boundaries or social standards. In fact, he says: “I've been waiting alone here...um...my whole life for you two to arrive. So...I'm really happy to meet you.”

Though Ralsei would logically be friends with the other Delta Warriors, his sheer conflict avoidance suggests he thinks he has no other options. It might be something like “country niceness”: when a countryside kid has only ten playmate options, alienating any of them is a big loss, necessitating extra-polite behavior. Most of the time, he acts as helpful as he can, deferring to Kris’s judgement. If “...” is selected when he talks to Kris before exiting through the great door, Ralsei says: “Kris in the end what you choose is up to you. As long as you're happy with it I'm happy too.”

Furthermore, he obeys even strange commands, such as Kris telling him to “offer his services” to Lancer and Susie during a fight with them. (he offers to braid hair) Most worryingly, in the first Lancer encounter, Ralsei even says he’ll “protect the heroes with my life!”. 2

Oddly, Ralsei is helpful even when his teammates are mean to him or go against his beliefs. Although Susie is consistently aggressive, uncooperative, insulting and otherwise rude, Kris, too, can be mean to Ralsei. (dropping the manual, attacking the dummy repeatedly, making Ralsei eat the stump salsa) Though Ralsei points out multiple times that “FIGHTing is unnecessary in this world” and he believes it will give an unfavorable ending, he nonetheless obeys Kris when told to FIGHT, and even equips the Ragged Scarf, which improves his fighting ability.

He might act strange to Kris and Susie not only because they’re his only (even first) friends, but also “cool kids” he puts on a pedestal. After all, Kris and Susie aren’t simply two people his age who arrived in the kingdom, but two Lightners, worshipped like gods, who he believes are the prophecized “heroes of light”. This contrasts with his blunter behavior to Lancer. After he attacks with two Hathies, Lancer asks how much money he gets after the battle, and Ralsei says he doesn’t get any because he lost. He also acts unusually blunt when pointing out Lancer hasn’t made the thrash machine yet: although he’s talking about something both Lancer and Susie were working on, he was addressing Lancer.3 One of the few times Ralsei is gets angry is when Lancer taunts Ralsei on the swear-word name of their team, as he tells Lancer: "OK, fine! We can keep the name! I just won't say it." However, there’s also a time he was clearly, loudly angry at Susie: on the third post-designed machine encounter, (see video) Ralsei says: "Fine!!! We don't want to be bad guys!!!" (with three exclamation marks, even)

Counterpoints

Although Lancer is not one the “cool kids” (if that’s synonymous with Lightners), Ralsei’s different behavior towards him might not have anything to do with him being a Darkner, less cool, or less suitable for friendship. Ralsei might act differently to Lancer because he’s an obstacle to their goals, annoys them, or mocks them. Rouxls Kaard himself describes Lancer as “more annoying than a fistful of fleas!” and a “strange and irritating darling”.

Option 4: Crush on Kris

Ralsei might be so obedient and eager to please because he has a crush on Kris. According to Kidshealth, people might feel shy, giddy, or both around a crush. Concerning giddiness, he believes Darkners can only feel true fulfilment by serving Lightners, and he is quite eager to serve Kris. Concerning shyness, Ralsei acts submissive, polite, eager to please, and shy or socially-anxious around Kris. As mentioned in Option 3, he says: “Kris in the end what you choose is up to you. As long as you're happy with it I'm happy too.” His submissive-polite speech pattern could indicate nervousness around his crush, and a lack of experience with his feelings and how to act around crushes. Social inexperience is quite plausible: he has barely, if ever, socialized with anyone, since he says he’s been “waiting his whole life for” Kris and Susie, alone in his castle.

At multiple points, Ralsei blushes or acts lovestruck while Kris is physically affectionate or complimentary to him. He blushes when Kris hugs him in the battle tutorial against the dummy. He also blushes when Kris gives the White Ribbon to him, and he asks Kris if he looks pretty. (If Susie’s in the party at that point, he still blushes, but asks Susie instead) More convincingly, when Kris stands really close to Ralsei, Ralsei blushes (but doesn’t ask Kris to move) and when Kris repeatedly attacks the dummy, Ralsei says it’s okay if Kris attacks him, too. (while also blushing) He also amusedly says Kris doesn’t need to donate to the tutorial masters to get him to call Kris “honey”, and that's something married couples, not friends, call each other.

He is also polite, submissive, and waffling to Susie, cares a lot about her, wants her on the team, and goes along with her plans when it’s not outright counterproductive (e.g., being launched at K. Round). However, he still treats Susie differently: he doesn’t blush when talking to Susie, nor does he anticipate Susie’s needs as he does for Kris. (The closest he gets to that is mentioning he “WAS going to bake a cake later” when Susie alludes to her hunger over three sentences.) This suggests he doesn’t have a crush on Susie, too.

It’s likely that this crush is combined with putting Kris on a pedestal or being intimidated by then. Seam says “[Lightners] were like gods to us.” and the Spade King continues with the godlike characterization, telling Ralsei to “perish with the pathetic Lightners you worship!” An NPC also points out the Delta Warriors took the Ragged Scarf in the chest without even asking, and claims it's a "gift to help you defeat the KING!" but also points out they're "potentially criminals". When Kris does the wrong thing, such as repeatedly hugging Ralsei in a combat tutorial, he might be too intimidated to say no, especially for harmless actions. Furthermore, Ralsei might lack integrity or feel insecure at the start, making him especially socially malleable.

Counterpoints

Though blushing in certain circumstances (e.g., saying Kris can hit them) could indicate Ralsei is lovestruck and possibly a masochist (see below), blushing can also show shame or anxiety. Therefore, Ralsei might blush when saying Kris can hit him due to his anticipation of Kris’s needs and inability to say no combining with discomfort on the matter.

It’s unclear whether he enjoys being hugged in general, hugged by people he likes, or specifically being hugged by Kris. After all, he said he’s never hugged anyone before, so he, logically, would never have been hugged back.

Option 5: Social and Physical Masochist

It’s possible he actually likes some combination of getting hurt, insulted, or bossed around, as well as serving Lightners. This is unusual: other Darkners also respond unhappily to getting hurt or insulted, such as Jigswaries getting attacked by Susie or Susie being mean to Bloxer. Even Lancer, as much as he likes Susie, doesn’t act submissive or servile towards her. There’s no evidence Lancer likes getting bossed around or insulted, and he doesn’t like getting hurt. Lancer even imprisons Susie to prevent her and the other Lightners from fighting (and potentially killing) his dad: Ralsei never poses such an obstacle.

Although the Rudinns are unhappy fanning Susie and Lancer, Ralsei offers to fan Kris just in case they’re envious of an evildoing lifestyle. If Kris throws away the manual, Ralsei offers to make a better one next time. The biggest piece of evidence is that, when Ralsei says it’s okay if Kris hits him, Ralsei blushes.

This is one of the less likely interpretations. Although he has a strangely high tolerance for others being mean to him, he does eventually ask Susie to stop being mean to him. However, he’s still a pushover: he entices her into simply being nice to him on a journey to save the world by offering cake, rather than for the sake of decency.

Option 6: Slightly Insane

Mental disturbance is another less likely possibility. After all, Seam says “Around here, you learn to find ways to pass the time...or go mad like everyone else.” If Seam is right, descending into madness is a risk for Darkners, so Ralsei could be mildly insane.

Still, even without supernatural explanations, his behavior and beliefs could easily become erratic if he was alone in the quietude of his castle for long enough, especially without a variety of fun activities. Seam may describe the Dark World as a “prison”, but Ralsei’s kingdom is a prison within a prison: except for two hedges in the tiny Castle Town, there apparently aren’t any living things there but him. Even hermits have richer nature surroundings, and animals for company. Yet, unless Ralsei climbs a cliff to the starting zone to meet with the spoon-like hazards and the sleeping dust lumps, he doesn’t even have animals: just the dummy based off himself.

Conclusion

Although there’s definitely something psychologically weird about Ralsei, it’s hard to figure out what, since there are many ways to interpret his behavior. Some explanations can even be combined: he could, for example, be happy about inevitably becoming a Delta Warrior, solitude eroded his social boundaries (if he ever had any), and he’s simultaneously in love with and intimidated by Kris.

There’s not enough data to say which interpretations are true, or how many, or to what extent. But one thing’s for sure: Ralsei ought to put up some boundaries and say “heck no!” a lot more.

Cracking “Journal of Slavmaeda” Enigma-encrypted text

EDIT: Do not reblog this post. If my interpretation of the rules is correct, it’s forbidden by the fanfic’s author.

Greetings. On September 7th, 2020, at 7:20 PM, CEST, @fieldofsunflowers8 found a piece of fanfiction titled “Journal of Slavmaeda” on Archive Of Our Own. As of September 8, 2020, 8:00 PM, CEST, the work has three chapters. The link:

At the end of Chapter 1, it contains something coded in Enigma:

As of August 8th, 2020, 8:02 PM CEST, the meaning of the message is unknown.

Some words were italicized in the text:

enigma, machine,  Kirigiri Jin, Momota Kaito, like Komaeda Nagito, blood, Kuzuryu,  too, Owari, like, 3,  Komaeda Nagito, chest

Based on “enigma” and “machine” we deduced that the text is coded in Enigma, while with “Kirigiri Jin” and “Momota Kaito” we deduced that the model is most likely Railway Enigma “Rocket I”.

Other than that, our ideas were not enough to decrypt the text.

We got some hints in the second chapter:

Too is a homophone.

Rocket is correct.

You are misinterpreting the word like.

I wish you luck. [Note: in the fanfic, the word was underlined, however, I cannot see this option on Tumblr.]

I should note that we were interpreting the word “like” as indicating similarity, rather than fondness.

Our attempts still are not enough to solve this.

Later, the third chapter was posted, and provided us with a word scramble:

[Translation: Satou, Tsumiki, a blonde whose last name begins with S.]

The three names refer to characters related to “Twilight Syndrome Murder Case”. “A blonde whose name begins with S” refers to Saionji Hiyoko. 

I should note that other characters involved in it include Koizumi Mahiru, Kuzuryu siblings - Fuyuhiko and Natsumi, and Mioda Ibuki.

It was also noted:

“If decoded and interpreted correctly, a passing remark of mine may become the only evidence that is needed. Let it be only a last resort.“

I personally suspect the “passing remark” may be one of those three sentences:

I wish you luck.

V igorous it may be, but  I ’m sure it is not hard to discover. [Note: V and I are separated.]

A small breakdown or nothing at all.

And six sentences, out of which two are stated to be true:

All numbers are irrelevant to the rotors.

Like does not refer to Hinata’s chest size (91) or Hinata.

The blood type of Komaeda is the ring letter of rotor 1.

Kuzuryu and Owari are in italics to confuse you and are completely unrelated to the solution.

Kirigiri Jin and Momota Kaito are not both intended to figure out the enigma model. Only Kirigiri is.

Most of the positions and rings are by letter, but the third rotor is based on numbers.

I should note that there are fifteen possible combinations of true and false sentences.

It was also said that:

I will grant you a hint but at a price. You are figuring out what is true and what is a lie.

Glitter stated that she apparently is good at figuring out “truths and lies”, and pointed at those two sentences as true:

Kuzuryu and Owari are in italics to confuse you and are completely unrelated to the solution. 

Kirigiri Jin and Momota Kaito are not both intended to figure out the enigma model. Only Kirigiri is.

As of September 8th, 2020, 9:12 PM CEST, it is unknown if she was right. We also do not have any other clue than this.

Less than a minute after posting the latest update on our progression, I found that the fanfic updated:

The separated V and I were nothing more than mistakes from an undone clue. In that way, you could think of it like a cheat sheet. An answer to the lie puzzle.

In case you cannot understand, think of boots and connect the dots.

The word scramble results have no connection to Twilight Syndrome Murder Case. Koizumi Mahiru and Mioda Ibuki will not come into play. Neither will Tsumiki Mikan or Saionji Hiyoko.

I suspect the first statement means hints I and V are true, or, is the position and ring number of some rotor.

Statements I and V are:

All numbers are irrelevant to the rotors.

Kirigiri Jin and Momota Kaito are not both intended to figure out the enigma model. Only Kirigiri is.

As of September 8th, 2020, 9:20 PM CEST, I have no other ideas.

On September 9th, 2020, around 6-7:30 AM CEST, I have discovered that the fifth chapter was posted. It contained another message in Enigma:

This time, it was stated that the code was simpler. Also, more data was already provided:

The message is encoded in Enigma I. The rotors are all I.

Rotor I position and ring: Hot pink, purple, blue.

Rotor II position and ring: Yellow, white, purple, black.

Rotor III position and ring: Pink, white, purple, black, blue.

I quickly recognized that those are pride flags: bisexual, nonbinary and genderfluid.

Putting in their shortened forms did not work. The fic was later updated to say that:

I apologize. It seems I have given false information. The 3rd rotor is actually III.

I have quickly updated the rotor number and got:

the solution to the word scramble you currently have is incorrect

Interestingly, the author of the fanfic also included six rules:

There are 6 forbidden actions. I use the term rather than rules because they are irrational.

1) You cannot ask for hints at all for this code.

2) You cannot speak of this chapter in the Slavmaeda channel.

3) A former Slavmaeda tumblr head cannot share their solution with anyone but a fellow former Slavmaeda tumblr head. You can say you have the answer or hint at what is true, but giving the solution or showing it is unacceptable.

4) You cannot tell others of this chapter in the Slavmaeda channel in any situation. If it is mentioned in a post, you cannot share that post in the channel until you have properly decoded the text.

5) If I suspect that you have broken a rule above or witnessed a rule being broken, I am allowed to take action.

6) All rules except 5 are invalid if Firanka is participating in a discussion.

I currently do not know why all discussion of this chapter is prohibited unless I am present.

We have cracked the original enigma.

It says:

My name is Slavmaeda. I have stolen the title of Russian president from Ouma Kokichi-san. As the man who danced alongside myself in the "Fingers in His Ass” video would say, get dunked on.

We were enraged, as we expected the solution to tell us the identity of the author.

Chapter 6 forbid me from speaking about this fanfic on my own on days other than Wednesdays.

It also provided additional tips for solving the enigma.

Between the release of Chapters 7 and 8 we finally cracked it. I included the solution above.

Chapter 8 provided another enigma and a promise of a game. The enigma was never solved.

With Chapter 9, we found out about the nature of the game - the title was “Secret Hitler”. Its rules were also described within the chapter.

Chapter 10 provided the link to the game. The victors were Marshpy and Glitter, who received additional tips.

After that, Author-san joined Tropical Despair Discord server, and the new Slavmaeda Discord. They later invited us to another game, “Buffet”. It was a game invented by Author-san themselves. We were provided around 60 words, most of which were dummies, and six phrases, which we were supposed to define with the phrases. While Author-san said it should take us around 10 minutes, it actually took us several hours. We still needed a high amount of assistance, and we only had the solution once Author-san revealed it to us.

Author-san also stated they are Glitter, and Glitter confirmed it.

The meaning of the word scramble was confirmed to be:

Satou, Tsukimi, a blonde whose last name starts with S.

Which, rather than tying into “Danganronpa” series, referenced characters from “Your Turn to Die”.

A later chapter stated that this was not true. As of September 16th, 2020, 22:15 we do not know the true identity of Author-san.

Today we also received a new chapter, and another game offer.

Interestingly, the chapter, despite its number being divisible by two, did not wish us luck in any way.
