FMP UPDATE

FMP=final major project

Sorry that I've been inactive, I'm not good at actually posting.

For my FMP I was going to do a short horror film but that fell through badly because me and my actors all fell ill one after the other, so we changed the idea. Instead of a short horror film we are now aiming for the stars with a mockumentary about us failing to make the horror film! I thought this would be easier on me especially with the time restraint, I also had some material for it already from our first horror filming session because we can't do anything without bloopers.

I'll be posting some more posters that I've made for the mockumentary too so stay tuned for that!

Pitch Plan

I have my pitch presentation of the 1st of May, so I have tried to refine my presentation as best as I could to get across my idea effectively.

I have added in pages that focus on the group aspect of the project, as well as my own personal work for the project and the background story for my character, which I'm hoping will show how unique our narrative is.

An additional thing I decided to focus on in my pitch is effective rigging and animation for this model. Since I don't have much animation experience as a games artists, I wanted to effectively show that I've looked into the proper techniques and believe that I can do it. I have animation and rigging experience from my Bachelor's degree, so I'm confident that I have the basic background knowledge to then be able to build upon in my piece. I have added extra time for my animation stage on my Gantt chart, so hopefully it will all run smoothly!

I'll be starting the experimentation process from next week.

SPACE GLADIATOR - Animated Short/Graduation Film (2023) - Middlesex Edition

WIP film I quickly edited a hand-in version for my FMP. The order of scenes are mostly random for this, and there are many sequences missing that’ll hopefully make it overall a bit entertaining once I add them in. As is, it’s just a showreel of scenes I’ve animated/started to animate.  Despite what it may seem, I still have motivation to make this look complete, even as a trailer.

I have started to think about a life size install for the exhibition in May and June.

I love working on film sets and I find it really artistically challenging to always be thinking about how to work the art into a space.

I was lucky to have worked on some 3rd year student films this past year doing production design and I have learnt so much that I would like to plan a space in the exhibition as if it was a film set.

Photos from the ‘Mother Moon’ film where I was production design assistant for all of the shoot days except for one, where I was HOD (head of department) and also in charge of Hair, Makeup, and Costume.

Went to get lunch with an old friend and Forte was so good.

It's a two hour drive there so I let him stretch his legs for a few minutes before going in. Even though this is only his second time at a hot pot place he clearly remembered it. I gestured for him to go into the booth first and he got himself comfortable in less than a minute. Last time it took him a few to figure out how to get situated in the limited space.

He snoozed almost the entire time we were there. The only exception being when he alerted by booping my leg with his nose when I got flustered over a sensitive topic. But he did it without lifting his head out from under the table. I rewarded him with some head scritches and a treat and he settled back down while I took a minute to do breathing exercises. My friend noticed and paused while I collected myself then switched topics to a book about a space war between hamsters and lizards. I'll have to look the book up because it sounds hilarious and I'm told it has very Murderbot Diaries vibes.

When it was time to leave we got the usual round of "I didn't know there was a dog here" from both guests and staff. Which I always take as such a compliment.

We then checked out some stores in the mall the restaurant is part of. Forte did an excellent job keeping his nose to himself while in a candle store and did some nice auto blocking as we stopped to sniff various products. He was also very good in the elevator while a kid called to him during the ride and did nothing more than wag his tail. Forte loves people but he especially adores kids so that was hard for him.

Our stop in a bookstore unfortunately got cut short. We were standing in line at the information desk when a man with three dogs came towards us, two of them growling and barking. My friend told me to go and she'd ask after the book for me. Forte getting attacked is a huge fear of mine so I really appreciated that. Guy, led by his dogs, continued to follow me around however so we ended up just leaving.

I don't know if the mall was actually pet friendly or people were just being people but we passed at least a dozen other dogs in the mall who gave us no trouble. However multiple reacting dogs in the hands of someone who doesn't give us any space is more than my nerves can handle. So we checked out a different store then said our goodbyes.

My friend did compliment my composure though after bearing witness to the weird things strangers feel compelled to tell a SD handler. This included dead dog stories (3x), people letting kids abuse dogs stories (2x), and German Shepherds being their favorite breed (5x at least).

Overall it was a really good day and I know that it was very much made possible by having my service dog with me. He did FMP several times when the environment got overwhelming and found my car at the end which is such a game changer for me. But also a big thanks to my friend who jumped in to help keep us safe. I've found that people who respect and understand how important a service dog is within their social circle are rare. This goes double for people who knew you pre service dog.

Final Character Design

I was finally able to get a character design that I'm happy with and think will be an impactful addition to our project. I had to go in and alter the head a few times to get a better shape, but I'm overall happy with this design.

I also went ahead and took a colour palette from this design, which I will work with in my experimentation to decide if i want to change any colours or tones around.

Mildred’s Exotic Meat Emporium - Most Updated Hand In for FMP

This is my most updated edit of my FMP stop motion film for Mildred’s Exotic Meat Emporium. It has my up-to-date edit and some new sounds I had time to include! I’m still working on the remainder and a few bits are on their way from my grad assist helpers, but definitely in time for the degree show we should have something epic up here :D
