And honestly???? I’m not totally sure how to give tips— but I love, love, love unhinged characters in media, so I’ll use them as examples

(long rant below lol)

I’ve always been a big fan of silly, ‘crazy’ characters in animated movies and cartoons. I grew up on Batman the Animated Series and the original Teen Titans, which were full of silly, fun tragic characters.

Don’t get me wrong, i love a good edge-lord— but as a tot i thought the colorful, theatrical, insane bad guys were more fun to watch than the big scary serious ones (ESPECIALLY if they had a good villain song. A+ good shit)

And not just bad guys!! There are a ton of unhinged good/neutral characters that i absolutely adore.

My personal brand of “Unhinged” or “Crazy” characters definitely leans on comedy. That’s what i enjoy seeing and reading! I personally like it because it can help keep a story fresh and interesting. There’s an element of surprise and unpredictability with what a character might do, and i love that!!

I also really enjoy a touch of feral behavior in my unhinged characters. The lack of clarity and the danger that imposes can be a very fun tool to use, no matter the character’s moral compass. (I’m feral for feral behavior lol)

And impulses. Whether a character has a few screws loose or is generally a goober, they like to act on impulses. This often goes hand-in-hand with comedy, and that’s something I enjoy!! We get a lot of moments like that in Rise, and that was one of my favorite parts of that TMNT iteration.

But as far as writing goes, it’s been tricky for me. All of the characters I grew up or love have been visual— trying to find a good balance for reading has been a puzzle I’ve been figuring out as I go.

I read a lot manga (lol nerd) and comics, and I love how thoughts/dialog are depicted. Especially the really dramatic or impactful moments. (I’d add examples but I’m already at the Tumblr image limit LAME)

As strange as it sounds, I try to capture that “impactful visual” style in my writing. If I had ANY advice on writing unhinged characters, pay attention to pacing—

Short. Fast. A calculating thought. Perhaps a run on sentence that lacks punctuation to represent the rushing and disorganized thought process. A question? An answer with little thought. Is this moment amusing; describe how. Is it upsetting; describe how. Are the thoughts starting to scatter? M aybe s o…

Big moment statement.

Action or plan of next big move. Flow should never seem too uniform. Even in normal writing. Don’t be afraid of accentuating— but don’t overdo it. Remember, unhinged characters are impulsive. Have fun with that.

Just as a quick and dirty summary— when it comes to unhinged characters, I like to use comedy, feral behavior, and acting on impulses. I also like to keep it as visually appealing as possible for characters to give the eyes a little treat after reading walls of text. I like to use fun text formatting to help with the fun too (But don’t overdo it! Don’t make it feel like a chore to read) (<- says the girl who goes into way too much details sometimes lmao whoops)

But ultimately— have FUN!!! Unhinged characters are fun, so make sure you have fun writing/drawing/creating them!!

IDOLiSH7 Anime vs Game Comparisons

First Beat - Episode 5

Getting a New Song! (+ Apologizing to Yaotome Productions)

Small detail, but Tsumugi actually called and was yelled at over the phone first before going to the office for round 2. In the anime, we just see leaving to go to Yaotome Productions.

Tsumugi discusses with Banri about how the overall team morale of IDOLiSH7 has increased significantly after TRIGGER's concert. Takanashi papa overhears this and tells Tsumugi to call the boys for an announcement.

They are getting a new song!!

It's funny because game Takanashi papa was much more serious and toned down. He also speaks in a lower voice. They say the exact same lines: "I've been waiting for you to be ready to sing this song." But in sooo different ways.

Anime Takanashi papa seems genuinely excited, like a fan. It's very interesting to see the differences in direction. I think they had a better picture of how they want each character to come off as when they were producing the anime. The small changes to Takanashi papa really sets the atmosphere of Takanashi Productions: warm, supportive, and free-spirited aka the best home for our IDOLiSH7 boys.

The game has an added scene where Iori asks about the writer of IDOLiSH7 songs. Takanashi papa chuckles and says, "That's a trade secret."

The other boys start discussing the writer of the songs in the practice room because Takanashi papa's response caught their attention.

Mitsuki observes that Takanashi papa seems to be quite proud about this writer. Riku wonders, "What if it's the president? It seems like a lot of feelings were put into writing them."

Tsumugi doubts that because she's never seen her dad write songs. Then, she says that she has to go out for something.

Nagi offers to accompany her, but Yamato volunteers instead. Yamato insists saying, "I spent the whole night thinking about the schedule for this date. Let me go this time, okay?" Then, he tells Tsumugi that he will meet her on the way.

Tsumugi waits as she tries to figure out Yamato's intentions. Yamato arrives in a suit, saying he knows that she's going to Yaotome Productions to apologize and wants to accompany her. The anime just skips the whole date thing and starts with Tsumugi and Yamato outside.

We suddenly cut to the practice room with the others. In the anime, Riku immediately brings Iori outside to talk, but in the game, he just shuts Iori’s mouth. Then, they continue practicing. (The anime version is so much funnier. I love it so much.)

Then, we jump back to Tsumugi and Yamato who meet Tenn on the way back. In the game, Tsumugi actually FANGIRLS right in front of Tenn (lmao but I get her): “…Wow…. It’s the real Kujou Tenn… You have such a small face! And you’re so cute! So cool!! You’re really like an angel.”

There’s an added Tenn line when discussing about Gaku: “He[Gaku] is scary, like a werewolf who transforms under a full moon. Roar!”

It was so surprising, I had to add it.

Tenn surprises Yamato who asks Tenn to go easy on Yamato and the rest because they’re all non-aggressive people. Tenn continues to tease Yamato, and Yamato plays along.

We go back to the practicing boys with Banri bringing them lunch. Tamaki reacts negatively to Sogo’s comment like in the anime, so Mitsuki asks for the real reason. Tamaki was actually about to share his reason, but Iori started talking at the same time. He didn’t cut Tamaki on purpose. He was walking from another side to talk about Riku’s sickness to the rest of the members and Banri (as shown in the anime). Riku muffles Iori’s mouth before he could speak and brings him out.

After trying to bribe Iori with ice cream or taiyaki, game Riku actually increased budget in the game to 1000 Yen (around 6.5 USD). But Iori will NOT be bribed! In his response, he actually calls Riku "Riku-san", which does not happen in the anime.

The flow of the scene is very different. In the anime, it starts as a funny squabble with Riku's cheap bribes. Then, they abruptly shift the atmosphere into one that is much more intense with Riku's: "I'll keep dancing even if it kills me."

In the game, it starts out as an outright fight. Even Iori's "Hey. Let go of me." sounds much more angry than the anime's. Right after this, he is hit by Riku's cheap bribes. Iori tends to speak less formally when he is emotional, so I think his "Riku-san" in the game scene was because he was bewildered. He just found out that his center probably has a serious chronic illness. As he was trying to tell the others, he gets forcibly dragged out and suddenly bribed with cheap food, which kind of makes light of the situation (even though Riku does not mean that at all). After this, Riku muffles Iori's mouth a second time, which annoys Iori. The tension is resolved when Riku proves to Iori that he is taking the situation as seriously as Iori is by saying, "I'll keep dancing even if it kills me."

Side note: When Iori gets emotional, he often addresses people less formally. We'll see that in a future scene in the game.

Iori calms down and returns to calling Riku “Nanase-san”.

During the performance in a typhoon, there were some details that changed. Tenn was worried because he heard there was a typhoon, not because he noticed Riku going out of breath. Also, Riku was about to go for another song, but Iori announces the end of the performance.

Riku's Dream Scene

Game Tenn asks Riku what kind of performance he wants to see. He offers The Wizzard of Oz and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Based on this, it seems like Riku and Tenn's parents had some kind of troupe or theater that does musicals and other plays. I like this because it explains Tenn's connection to musicals. In part 1, Banri said Tenn caught the attention of Broadway people + if you know you know ;-)

Also, Riku wakes up in his room instead of a hospital bed in the game.

Teasing Riku

After Iori calls Tsumugi to talk, which happens in the anime, we get an extra scene with the rest of i7 left in the other room.

Riku observes that Iori and Tsumugi would often go somewhere together and wonders what they are talking about.

Sogo asks if Riku is curious. Yamato teases Riku for wanting to know. Mitsuki jumps in saying, "Should I teach you how to say, 'Stop right there!'" (stopping Iori and Tsumugi lmao)

Riku says, "It's not like that!"

They also shuffled some scenes. For example, the scene where Tamaki talks about being followed by HS girls and the Iori & Riku fansite comes after Iori talks with Tsumugi in the game but before in the anime.

Side Story I: Nanase "Tenn's little brother" Riku

We start with Riku worrying that i7 will treat him differently, knowing that he is Tenn's younger twin brother. He didn't plan to tell them, but because he was overwhelmed at that time (having to face the reality of his brother leaving him and not being able to sing to process those feelings), he impulsively told everyone.

He's stressing quite a lot over this that it's starting to affect his health.

He wonders if he should tell the others about his sickness too, but he's scared that they'll make him leave IDOLiSH7. In the end, he decided not to think too much about it because it won't get him anywhere. He leaves to see the other boys.

He swings the door open and greets everyone with the sunniest, "Good morning!" (There is no sound for side stories, but I can hear his voice🥹)

Yamato and Iori greet him back. Mitsuki asks him if he wants to eat breakfast. Their response makes Riku happy because they're treating him as usual. (Happy Riku, happy life ^o^)

Well... that's what they say out loud, but in their minds, they are thinking wayy differently, haha.

Yamato: "That's Kujou Tenn's younger brother..."

Iori: "That's the younger brother of TRIGGER's Kujou-san..."

Mitsuki: "That's the twin younger brother of a super idol...."

Sogo: "I'm living with the younger brother of the person whose concert I went to yesterday...."

Tamaki: "Rikkun, I heard your older brother is in TRIGGER. You know, I gave him a piggyback ride yesterday."

Riku responds saying that he heard about that and asked if the bomb thing was a joke... 😭 Tamaki frustratedly shouts that everything he said is true!

Riku asks Tamaki about what was Tenn like. Tamaki says that Tenn gives him good vibes. Riku probes for more information, asking if Tenn talked about family or more about his health condition.

Iori asks why Riku is suddenly so fidgety about the topic. Iori observes that Riku spoke with more resentment that day before the live (yesterday). Iori asks, "Didn't you want to prove yourself to the heartless person who abandoned you?"

Riku is surprised that he came off like that. Tamaki says that he won't talk about Tenn again if Tenn makes Riku uncomfortable. Iori continues, assuring Riku that he will definitely be able to prove himself. Someone with a voice like Riku will not only prove himself but also surpass that "heartless person".

Riku gets mad at Iori for calling Tenn a heartless person. He says that he's going too far! Iori defends himself, saying that Riku said that himself. Riku replies, "Well... but Tenn-nii might have had his own reasons..."

Iori asks if Riku wants to reconcile with Tenn, but Riku quickly denies it. He adds that even if Tenn apologizes, Riku will never forgive him. Iori is confused.

Sogo understands Riku's feelings and says, "I am grateful for my family and love them dearly, but that’s also why I feel such deep resentment." Listening to Sogo, Riku thinks that just might be it.

Riku thinks, "I wonder if Sogo-san understands that feeling because he also abandoned his family..." Sogo reads Riku like a book and seems a bit sad.

Iori breaks the heavy atmosphere, saying, "That sounds complicated." Mitsuki comments, "Iori is sensitive, but his motives and goals are aligned. So these kinds of conflicting feelings might be hard to understand?"

Iori responds saying, "...No, I can understand them." Tamaki jumps in saying, "Don't force yourself to understand." Iori angrily replies, "I don't want to hear that from you!"

Iori explains that he wants Riku to be clear about his goals because indecisiveness may lead to less than desirable results. Riku retorts with "It's not that easy."

Iori says that it might not be easy, but if Riku doesn't sort his feelings out properly, he will end up regretting it later. Yamato takes Riku's side.

Nagi wonders why Tenn didn't try to enter the entertainment world with Riku when Riku is so good at singing. Mitsuki adds that Riku does not have good stamina, but he can work on that. Riku smiles and promises to work hard.

Iori:

Yamato speculates that it's out of rivalry because he can't think of any other reason.

Yamato leaves to go to Yaotome Productions with Tsumugi.

After meeting Anesagi, Yamato and Tsumugi introduce themselves and immediately apologizes.

Anesagi is furious and says, "Do you think that an apology is enough?" Anesagi can't believe that IDOLiSH7 started dancing just because they were "feeling pumped". If IDOLiSH7 could dance anywhere if they felt excited, then Yamato should dance right here, right now.

Yamato says that right now he's not exactly "feeling pumped" right now. Anesagi replies, "Then, I'll make you 'feel pumped up'. GO! GO! GO! GO! Well!? How about now!?"

Yamato shocked, says, "I.... I'm at about 70%"

Anesagi furiously retorts, "70%!? Then make up the rest on your own!! Do you rely on others to get things done?"

Yamato apologizes.

Anesagi criticizes Tsumugi for just blankly observing the situation even though she's the manager.

Tsumugi also apologizes. She also starts cheering, "GO! GO! GO! GO!"

Yamato is shoookk.

Both managers are cheering now....

Yamato decides that he'll just dance. He says, "I'm sorry! I'm pumped up now! 100% pumped! I'll dance. Manager, can you hold my suit jacket?"

Just as he was about to dance, Anesagi shouts in disbelief, "What!? You're dancing!? I thought you came here to apologize, but you're dancing!?"

Yamato angrily replies, "Then, what do you want me to do!!" Yamato quickly catches himself.

Anesagi continues to express disbelief.

We cut to TRIGGER who could hear Anesagi screaming from another room. This part is in the anime!

TRIGGER catches Tenn up on their beef with i7 because game Tenn was delirious. They show Tenn some pictures, and this is when Tenn learnt that Riku is in i7 in the game.

We get a funny scene about Gaku's impression of the i7 members. At first, he thought they were talented, but because of the audience stealing incident, he started seeing them as shameless people, especially the center. Tenn chokes at Gaku's assessment of the center. Gaku adds, "Wasn't he [the center] smirking with a sinister smile?"

Ryuu doesn't think that the center was smirking. He thinks they seem like good boys. Tenn says that Gaku is not a good judge of character and shares his experience with i7.

He talks about Tamaki's cheap taxi fares, Nagi's love for role-playing, and Yamato's passiveness. He adds that if anyone has a dark side, it would be Yamato. He also says that he doesn't mind i7 dancing because it means TRIGGER's stage was that infectious.

He says but does not explain that i7 will not be able to continue if they do not change their center.

Side Story II: Confronting Yamato

Mitsuki asks about Yamato's "date" with the manager. Yamato said that it was great. Mitsuki whacks him.

Yamato teasingly asks if Mitsuki is jealous. Mitsuki says, "Why didn't you tell us? I didn't appoint you leader to wipe my ass." (to make him do all the hard stuff).

Sogo joins in and also asks Yamato to be more open with the members because they want to share the burden with him.

Yamato tries to play it off as no big deal, so Mitsuki whacks him again. 😂 He tells Yamato not to take on these kinds of things by himself more forcefully.

Then, Mitsuki cues Sogo who says, "Thank you for doing that for us. You've worked hard, Yamato-san." Mitsuki chimes in with another "You've worked hard!"

Yamato calls them idiots and then thanks them. Mitsuki says, "That's our line." Then, he invites all three of them to go drinking. (It would be their first time drinking together)

Mitsuki says that he knows Yamato often drinks in his room and asks Sogo how much Sogo could drink. Sogo said this would technically be his first time. Yamato tells Sogo that he can count on Yamato to teach him. Mitsuki is happy that they get to introduce Sogo to alcohol.

Nagi and Tamaki are watching anime together in Nagi's room. They were crying over a touching scene when Tamaki brings up how Riku and Iori has been kind of weird lately. Nagi agrees. He feels like they're hiding something.

Tamaki thinks that they're fighting, but Nagi said that he saw Riku treating Iori to some nice food recently. Tamaki suggests that they should try out what Iori did to Riku. Nagi agrees.

Tamaki puts his ear on Nagi's back. Nagi says that it feels like someone is wiping their runny nose with his shirt and that it is very unpleasant. 😂

Tamaki: Oh, you found out. (L.M.A.O)

Nagi: SHIT.

Tamaki immediately apologizes, and Nagi tells Tamaki that he should be glad that Nagi is not wearing his Kokona t-shirt.

Next, Nagi muffles Tamaki's mouth and asks him how he feels. Tamaki, obviously, can't speak properly. Finally, Nagi releases Tamaki and Tamaki says, "That was on purpose, wasn't it." Nagi admits yes. Tamaki says that this is making his nose runny, and he wipes it on Nagi's shirt... again 😭

We see Iori in Riku's room. He is still trying to convince Riku to tell the others about his sickness. Riku refuses and insists that it's not that bad of a problem. He asks Iori to leave because he wants to sleep early.

Iori refuses because he can tell that Riku is about to have an attack. Riku lies, saying that it's just a cold. And tells Iori to leave because he doesn't want Iori to catch it.

Iori gets angry and says that he is worried about Riku. He threatens to tell the others, and Riku finally admits that he is about to have an attack. But it's not a bad one. Iori asks Riku to be honest and tell him everything because he wants to help.

Iori starts asking some questions, but it seems like Riku was answering more about his resolve rather than his true physical condition. Iori restarts and asks another question.

Iori: Am I... Are my expectations for your singing putting pressure on you?

Riku says, "No." He is happy that people are happy to see him dance and sing. He dreams of being for others what Tenn was for him. He wants to stay with i7 and says, "Instead of giving up on my dream and living to a hundred, I'd rather die singing a hundred year's worth of songs."

Iori is surprised that Riku used the word "death". Riku assures him that it's just a figure of speech. He assures Iori that he won't die because Riku has become stronger and the disease is not life-threatening.

Riku says that he's really happy to be chosen as the center because he feels needed. He says, "....For the first time in my life, I feel like I'm truly living for myself."

Iori calls Riku an idiot and says, "Even if there is someone with your level of singing but with a healthier body and more stamina than you, I chose you to be the center. Because you are truly valuable, IDOLiSH7's center, Nanase Riku-san."

Riku says that he's touched but adds a question, "Did you even have a choice? Shouldn't it be either our manager or the president?"

Iori also says that it's just a figure of speech. Riku teases him a bit. Then, repeats a "Thank you."

Riku asks for details on what his value is because he likes being praised. Iori says that it's a secret for now. Through Iori's thoughts we learn that Riku's value is in Riku's ability to make people love him. Iori says that while not everyone might wish for Riku's happiness, no one is rooting for Riku's misfortune.

Then, Iori talks about his own dream, which is to be of use to another person. He is glad that he finally found someone who he can support without hurting. He says, "Even if Nanase-san has to walk down a thorny path, if that is what he wishes, I can play the role of a demon king."

Bllk Season 2 Episode 14 Review

I’m back~

Rin stealing the ball was funny asf for some reason idk. I’m thinking one of these guys bout to get in the way— Sae, Aiku, Shidou, Sendou, or Isagi. I was wrong cause it was Neru who first got to him[technically not cause he got past him like it was nothing]

Sae finally started realizing his brother is a problem. So Rin’s now entering his ‘flow’ state. If the main character doesn’t become the best striker in the world, I think Rin will. Now, maybe it’s just bc I’m not into sports like that but I really don’t think ‘I’ll kill kill kill you’ is an okay mindset to be having, like this mf my be a psychopath…

Yukimiya said Rin’s flow was the exact opposite of Sae’s ‘Beautiful Destruction’ but I also see it as the exact opposite of Isagi’s type of play— because we always see him making plays while using others to make them score goals— while Rin is all on his own in the field[even though he did pass, he ofc knew it had to come right back to him] and he continued on his rampage.

Why is his tongue out? Cause he’s super focused or something but… he just looks kinda like a dog. Literally this 🐶 emoji.

He got past the 4 walls like it was nothing. Got Aiku’s whole system malfunctioning. But, here comes Shidou. ‘Licky Rin’ lmao. And they just barely stopped him. You don’t know how mad I was when it hit the side of the goal!!

And with only 1 minute of additional time the ball goes to Itoshi mf Sae. So now I guess it’s a final stand off between brothers, still dk how they’re gonna make this work. But, miracles do happen.

“If you’d stayed at home and been a good boy, you could’ve died an easy death”

Again, maybe it’s just bc I don’t care about sports. But is it that serious? Like, he’s not gonna die. Life goes on. He’ll be okay even if he does lose[which I think he won’t cause I’m delusional. Plus it’s like 15 minutes left in the episode at this point]

But, back to the review. He’s awakening even more, and now his tongue is bigger. Whatever that means.

“You still make that face”

That is NOT the same face you remembered. And they but their entire budget into that last face off scene. I can tell bc it wasn’t shaded or highlights in their colors. And their hair was moving. But literally everyone else when they popped up on the screen had that.

That last goal, made by Isagi got everyone hype. Even the ones who was hating from the beginning. And I was right all along. 1 minute left and Isagi made the final score. But shout out to Rin cause he’s the only reason why. Even Sae who never cared about anything made a face of surprise.

The thunder struck from nowhere, startling you from your nearly-finished chapter. Hands flying to help your body stand, calling out to Jungkook to hurry up on inside. His body twists, scrunching his nose at the thought. 

"Oh come on, Y/n!" It's just water." He chuckles, throwing the orange flying disk towards the little shed placed in the back of land, huffing as Bam had no run towards the tattered porch in search of dryness. Jungkook bends at the knees, snapping and clapping to call the large dog over. He doesn't budge.

"Ah, you two are weenies." His hands throw into the air, acting as if he'd been being filmed for a dramatic scene from a Korean romance TV show. Heavy drops of rain flow down the side of his cheeks, as you watch the cyan blue material of his hoodie darken, being soaked by mother nature's tears. Your lips roll out a heavy sigh, glancing over to the dog who'd been sat near the door, waiting for entrance. Bam and you share a similar look towards the adult child, shaking your head. 

"He's an idiot."

And an idiot he was. 

The next morning you two had been planning a hike up the nearby mountain, in hopes of getting to seep in a workout for the day. His plan, nor yours. He basically had to beg you to come with him on that 3-hour hike. You're thankful the rain had downed so much, making the hiking trails nearly impossible to grip with your shoes. Now, plan B had been just to wait in the living room, as Jungkook hooked up the system so he could play Overwatch. 

Your legs fold inwards, hugging tightly to your body as you scroll on Instagram for the next hour. Only the quiet sounds of morning drips of rain tap the window as well as Jungkook's slight groans of frustration from loosing a match. 

"Oh come on! I totally had that headshot!" Hid hands throw into the air, frustrated from not receiving the point he's so earned. Leaning back against the couch, he finds a more comfortable position between your thighs. It hadn't been unheard of for friends to cuddle a bit, especially for you two. 

You'd known each other for almost a decade, meeting back in middle school when you'd become a transfer student for Mrs. Choi's class. Jungkook had been quite a shy, quiet boy. Very much the classic 'anime scene where the main love interest sits by the window, tapping his fingers onto the desk, while looking out somberly'. Even though girls had practically been falling to his feet as if he'd been a king, Jungkook still never paid them any mind, and instead quickly flew past them to avoid any confrontation. 

That is, until you came along. 

Being the transfer student, you'd been just as nervous. Not knowing where to sit, the class schedules, and being in a whole new atmosphere than your old school back in the States had your hands practically glued to the insides of your hoodie. The dress code had become more strict, due to the uniforms every student was mandated to wear. 

Crashing into the most notorious boy in class, making the two of you knock into the lockers, hadn't been the most ideal first day of school. You're quick to extend your hand out to offer a helping hand, but he just takes off in the other direction. 

After a few months, the halls had been buzzing with rumors of a guy in your class being picked to start training at a small idol company. Not really knowing what all that meant, you shrugged it off. Taking a few steps into class, your feet halt when Jungkook's eyes meet yours. A shy tint of red brushes his cheeks, as he makes his way towards the side, taking a seat.

"Do I scare you?" Your arms swing by yours sides, anticipating the answer. Jungkook's hand comes to rest on his locker handle, eyeing your changed expressions quickly. His voice is soft and small. 

"N-No.." he sounded unsure of himself. Your hands press against the locker, sighing in frustration. His body leans away from yours. 

"Why don't you like girls?" You question, leaning your head to lower your voice. 

"Are you gay?" His eyes widened, choking on an invisible foreign object lodged into his throat. Hand coming to pat his chest, as another wave of blood red hues splotches his cheeks. 

"I-I..uh- class." Just like that, he's gone.

It had only been when you two met at the same club one night right after graduation. A few drinks later, and he'd become the life of the party. You, on the other hand, couldn't handle your liquor very well, being bent over the outside of the club, as one of your girlfriend's had been rubbing at your back, holding your hair.

Jungkook stumbles through, eyebrow quivering at the strange scene. His eyes trailing down the lengths of the woman's beautiful figure, admiring the way her little sparkly black dress hugged her curves gently. However, the scene spayed before him had been anything but a turn-on. He'd decided to come help the poor woman, bending over alongside her to give some comfort. It hadn't been until he recognized the little penguin earrings she'd been wearing that he finally realized it had been the girl from his class. 

"Y/n?"

The rest had been history.

"Jungkook." Your voice, stern and commanding. Bam's ears perk at the sudden outburst of his daddy, hopping down from your side of the couch, nuzzling into his side to make sure everything had been okay.

"Sorry Bam-ie. Daddy's okay." He scratches behind Bam's ear, making the large dog's tail flick with happiness. Suddenly, Jungkook's loudness makes both Bam and your's were perk. Setting down your phone to the side, you sit up, reaching around to feel his forehead. 

"Koo, you're burning up, dummy." You scold, pulling his permed, curly natural locks back out of his face. A smile curls his lips, tilting his head back in content, landing in your lap. 

"Mmm, that feels good." He sighs, loosening his tight grip on his control to instead focus on your small strokes ontip of his head. You lower your head, Spiderman-ing this situation. 

"I told you earlier that playing in the rain wasn't good for you." He whines, tilting his head to the side to look out the window. 

"It's fine. I'm not-" he jerks up, chest sending him into a fit of coughs. After a few seconds, he calms down, making your eyes roll to the side. 

"Aright, that's it." You stand, walking to unplug the control to his console, as well as his Xbox. He lets out a string of groans in retaliation, but you'd pay no mind. Arm lifting to make the heavy man stand, you point towards his room. "Bed, now." 

A smirk tugs his lips, eyes swollen and groggy but still could muster out a little tease. "Mmm, sounds great, baby~" you bend down, throwing the controller from his lap onto the couch, pinching his ear to make him stand. 

"Ow ow ow ow ow! Alright alright! I'm going!" He lets out a few whines, as you lead him to the bedroom. His lips poke out in a pout.

"So mean." He teases.

You push on his center chest, lowering his body to rest under the covers. Hand coming to rest on top of his forehead, making a low white echo in the small room. 

"You're warm." 

"I think you mean, hot." 

"If you were hot I'd be having to drive your dumbass to the hospital right now." He huffs, wiggling down into his little cocoon comforter you'd created. His head tilts to the side, flashing a cute bunny smile.

"Y/nnnn" jungkook drags out, making your groan as you take a few steps into his bedroom. Tissues spread all over the comforter, as his laptop propped up onto the side, as he'd been laying on his stomach while watching the newest Netflix original, Bridgeton. (Not sponsored). 

"Yeah?" You reply. A quick smile flashes across his face, holding out his little thermos you'd fixed for him. 

"Be a dear and fetch me some more, liquid." His voice is posh, much like the one of the characters from the TV show. 

"Talk to me like that against and I'll put rat poison in your liquid." You bite back, snatching the bottle from his hand. He faints a hurt expression. 

"Y/n, that's not how you treat the sick." His voice is scratchy, but audible. Mainly because you'd learned to read through his mumbled voice all throughout middle and high school. His eyes doe and cutesy, making your fists clench at the sides. Letting go of a sigh, you compose yourself once more. 

His smile shines through. "Much better." His arm stretches to the side, groaning as he pops a few of the disks in his back, shaking his body. "I'll take the water now."

His eyebrow quirks, smirking at your flushed cheeks in anger. 

"You're a real milker when you're sick, you know that?" He chuckles, twisting over to the side to spread out on his back, finding a different position. 

"I don't think this is how you treat your king, Y/n." 

"I should've left you outside in that hellstorm." 

His smile widens. "But you didn't."

"I should've."

His body props up, lips leaning closer to yours in proclamation. 

"But you didn't. Now, pheasant," 

Eye roll. 

"Don't roll your eyes at me, Missy." His tone leaves a small burning sensation in the pit of your stomach. A victorious smirk plasters his face. "Now then. I'll be needing a few things from you, pheasant." 

"Keep calling me that and-"

"I won't have lips to blab with, yeah yeah. We've known each other for almost ten years, you really need to come up with better threats." You scoff at his arrogance.

Swallowing your pride (which had been very high and mighty), you Play along to his little games, cursing yourself for ever getting into this situation in the first place.

"Good. Now," he peels back to the blanket, pointing to the bottom of his bed. "Rub my feet."

His fingers toy with the little thin sheet of his comforter, while his other hand had been patting Bam's stomach in patterns. 

"And Another thing! This whole 'sir' act ain't working anymore, buddy boy. So, if you want something, you've got legs." 

All you could hear was the growing of his chuckle falling past his lips. His head throws back, laughing at your composure. 

"Your face is red'' he comments, throwing the comforter off of his body to place his feet on the floor. He rises, towering your figure easily. 

"I just wanted you to keep me company. Honestly I didn't think I would get away with half the stuff you did." He chuckles, twisting your figure around. Before you know it, you've landed on the bed, flat on your back. His body comes to tower over yours, before plopping right down beside you. 

"Well i-I'm just a nice person." You mumble. Arms folding across your chest in retaliation to this. You hated how happy he was right now, laughing at your exhaustion. 

"Mmmhm. Why don't we watch a movie here? Jimin texted me saying that they'll be back soon." He replies, typing a few characters onto his keyboard before another movie pops up. 

You chuckle at his decision. "Really?"

His eyebrow raises in confusion. "What?" 

Your hand is lowered, pointing at the screen."sharknado?" 

A smile paints his face. "Well of course. The best cinematic movie ever to be produced!"

Your hand reaches down, tugging on the hem of his shirt to lift it, fingertips dragging along the hidden dips of his abs, a moan groans against your lips mid-exchange. He's quick to pull you in his lap, as your straddle him, hands carding through his messy locks, as you both share a passionate, but sloppy kiss. 

When coming back up for air, you pull away, as you both are left breathless. Chests heaving, trying to calm yourself. Eyes locked onto each other, as the sounds of your chests rising and falling in weight, fills the spaces in. His chocolaty irises bard into yours, eyelashes blowing lightly from your gentle breaths rolling down his features. 

Soon, you cut the tension. "That's gross, Kook." His heart drops at your words. Was he a bad kisser? Did his breath stink? Do you think his hard-on right now is gross??

A smile presses your cheeks, brushing his bangs out of his face. "Now I'm gonna get sick." A relieved chuckle exhales his chest. Hands pulling your hips further up his body, wanting to hold you closer. 

"We'll be sick together, Jagiya."

You glance down, seeing the sheet of his sick sweat rub onto your skin. "Ah, damn it. I'm all gross now."

Dan would be a streamer and he would be a hardcore gamer kinda guy like... streaming for hours on end, optimizing his game play to the max, always planning ahead. He wouldn't really talk much and mostly be focused on the game with the occassional sassy comment that gets a laugh. His videos would be the kind you would watch if you want a perfect walkthrough for a game. He assumes he gets so many views and donations cause he's just really good at gaming and while that is true he doesn't understand that... tired pretty gamer boy is great for the wallet 🫡 (Dan continues to be oblivious about his appeal at the worst times please you are usually so observant Chief...)

For HSR his main would be Acheron cause... okay so I'm in no way a HSR expert i'm purely basing this of watched let's plays and my idk five days of playing the game. But from what I gathered... Acheron is super op and also her insta kill ability is so fucking broken and Dan would love the efficiency of it. Note that Dan would probably not really... fanboy about characters a lot, he would mostly chose based on stats, abilities etc. Though he would probably have a soft spot for Bailu cause she looks like a cute kid and has dragon characteristics (Dan like me can't resist a good dragon) which is also why he probably likes using Dan Hengs IL built as well.

Otherwise... the reason why Dan is so tired in this AU is because he keeps pulling all nighters while streaming, he's the type of person who gets in the flow and just... forgets that the outside world and passage of time are a thing. Marina often scolds him for that.

Davey-boy would also be a streamer and a youtuber! Unlike Dan his playthroughs are way more casual and mostly an excuse for him to endlessly yap about whatever comes to mind. His gameplay is more focused on humour and entertainment like doing blind let's plays because it feels like going on an adventure! He met Dan by chance through some kind of co-op event where they got paired up with (is that... even a thing in gamer circles lol? idk but it will be in this au cause i like Dan and Dave getting thrown together on fates whim that's always funny as hell). Dan was not amused at first but Dave got attached because "Chief's gameplay is godtier! Please teach me senpai!!!" Yes, Dan is still called Chief it's his twitch username. Also Dave is totally a weeb lmao. Anyways, after the event Dave just kept on bugging Dan so much until he eventually just gave in because it's less of a hassle (and because he secretly finds Dave funny but nobody tell the gremlin that!).

Dave's fav in hsr would be Aventurine, simply because he reminds Dave of himself. The cunning, the showmanship, his past... it hits close to home and speaks to him making the Gambler his favourite. Otherwise... he would totally fanboy over Boothill because Space Cowboys are hot 🫡 And once again in contrast to Dan, Dave would totally pull based on hotness of a character, he will collect all of the ikemen trust! Especially the purple ones which there are plenty of!

Marina

Marina would be a causal gamer, doing it in her rare down time when she wants to relax. Honestly, she gives me animal crossing, stardew valley, harvestella vibes? She's just here for the chill, but Dan got her hooked on HSR so she plays it too. She sometimes joins her brother in his streams when he covers games with a multiplayer option and naturally views and donations sky rocket on these occasions. For Dan that's a given because Marina is gorgeous and decent at gaming why wouldn't people fall over themselves to throw money at her? That's just the natural order of things.

Now favourite hsr character is... tricky. Hmmmmm, honestly her favourites might just be the Landau siblings, because their relationship would tug on her heartstrings and she likes Serval's rockstar asthetic. Also, the way Serval teases Gepard is a vibe and it reminds her of her and Dan's relationship which is always a bonus.

Yves

Now my first thought when I combined Yves and gaming was: V-tuber and honestly it fits, so let's go with that. They would make a lot of bank with their videos and streams because they know how to play an audience. Also, ngl I feel like Yves would have an OnlyFans... to make even more money...

Their favourite characters would be Black Swan for the mystery vibes and asthetic and Sparkle for the chaos and mayhem lmao.

I really needed this lmao so tysm for the prompt! I've been really struggling with writing inspiration recently so this was really great!

It's been so long since I posted something new - it feels so good lmao. I left it fairly open ended so I could write more if anyone wanted it <3 just send an ask!! I'm always down for prompts :)

Janus was, first and foremost, a God

To be precise, he was the God of deception, trickery. In some communities he was the Guardian of all Evil, in others he was a representation of temptation, sin, all that was wrong with the world. 

At his very core, Janus was human.

One might say he was more than human, being a God, but being more than something doesn’t take away from that something, it just adds onto it.

Janus was still human, deep down, he always would be, no matter how many layers were added - immortality, reality bending powers, worshippers, temples - he couldn’t bury the human parts. Though he tried, he wasn’t indifferent. No matter what he did the harsh words still stung when they tore at him, the hatred many felt towards him sat heavy in his chest, loneliness clawed at him like a starving animal - and he was their prey. As it had been for years. 

He had been naive, a thousand years ago, to become a God. But they’d needed someone to shoulder the burden of the world's evils. They needed someone to shield them from the terrors, they needed someone who could face the lies and treachery and not be torn down by them. He had been foolish then, just a boy who was different, a boy who wanted to help. 

There was no way out, either. Janus had tried his best, he’d begged the universe, he’d searched. He’d tried to cut himself off from the world but that had only made the lonely, empty feeling in his chest worse, he’d tried to end it all, when he had no options left, but that hadn’t worked either. 

You couldn’t kill a God, after all. He wasn’t the only one who tried.

“You’re not going to defend yourself?” Said the knight, dressed in shining silver armour, a red cloak fastened at the shoulder flowing behind him, a confident expression turning to confusion. The challenger stood before him in his temple, shining sword drawn and pointed at Janus’ chest where he sat on his uncomfortable, stone throne. 

“No,” He answered simply.

“You’ll just… let me kill you?” He said, faltering, the only movement was his fiery red hair in the wind. 

Janus leaned on his elbow and didn’t say anything. The knight lowered his sword just a little. 

“Armies will try - if I fail,” The knight said, widening his arms in a gesture, “More people will come, try to kill you, why just allow it?”

“Maybe I want them to kill me,” Janus said softly, not quite looking at the knight, “What if I want you, them, everyone to try? What if I want to see them realise that as much as I and others have tried. They…We can’t?’”

The knight stared at the God before him, eyes widening as he realised, “You… whyever would you want to die?” 

Once again, Janus said nothing. The knight sheathed his sword and Janus sighed softly. He supposed today wouldn’t be the day. 

With the soft clanking of the knight’s heavy armour, he stepped forward, slowly approaching Janus’ throne as though he was prepared to be attacked. Even if he never went to draw his sword again, Janus could see the fear growing in his eyes with every step as he got closer. Janus didn’t move. 

“Why do you want to die, Janus: God of Deceit, guardian of Evil,” the Knight asked, now standing over him. How interesting, Janus thought, that a mortal would have the courage to do such a thing. Many Gods would have felt that something of the sort was an act of disrespect, possibly even choosing to smite down the mortal who dared to do such a thing, Janus found he didn’t have the energy to care. Instead he just smiled softly - at least this made his life just a little more interesting, even if it did nothing to lessen the emptiness in his chest. 

He sighed, he’s certain the knight would listen if he turned him away, but Janus had yearned for someone to talk to for hundreds of years. This knight would leave soon anyway and Janus would never see him again, what did it matter.

“Tell me your name,” Janus said, the Knight tilted his head and frowned, “Tell me your name, first, and I’ll answer your question.”

After a long, thoughtful pause, the knight sighed, “My name is Roman - Sir Roman Greenheart.”

“A lovely name,” Janus said softly, Roman smiled tentatively, “Now- your question… Why do I want to die? The answer is that living is painful.”

“Oh…” Roman said softly, “I would have thought a God would have an easy life.”

“Easy and painless are not the same,” Janus says softly, “People try to kill me on a monthly basis, Roman, and that’s barely scratching the surface.”

The pair were silent for a moment, before Roman gestured to the floor by Janus’ feet, “May I sit down?” He asked.

“You may,” Janus said. With permission, Roman folded to sit cross legged by Janus’ feet. He wondered silently why Roman’s attitude had changed so abruptly - minutes ago he’d been prepared to attempt to kill him. He wouldn’t ask though, instead simply ignoring him, resting his elbow on the uncomfortable arm of the throne and resting his chin atop his fist. 

Minutes spent in silence later, Roman must have shifted, because Janus felt his shoulder brush against his leg, sending a jolt of warmth through him, strong enough to make his gasp. He hoped Roman wouldn’t notice, but as the knight turned to look at him, he knew he wasn’t so lucky. 

“What was that?” Roman asked, frowning up at him - though the look seemed to be one of concern, Janus couldn’t be certain. 

“I’m not sure I know what you’re talking about,” Janus said, making a point to look forward instead of down at Roman. Unfortunately that left him unprepared for Roman laying his hand atop Janus’ knee. His whole leg jolted as he flinched away in surprise at the way the touch burned. 

“What are you doing to me,” Janus hissed, trying to sound menacing though he was fairly certain his fear and confusion were showing through his facade. 

Roman simply frowned, “How… How long has it been since someone touched you?”

For a moment, Janus couldn’t think of an answer because when he thought about it, Janus couldn’t remember the last time he’d been touched by another person outside of combat. His silence seemed to be enough of an answer for Roman. 

“I didn’t know Gods could be touch starved,” Roman said softly. Janus’ frown deepened. 

“Will you stop being vague and let me in on whatever odd breakthrough you’re having?” He asked, voice tired but still a little snappish, Roman jumped.

“Oh- um…” he sighed, “I believe you might be touch starved.”

“...Meaning?” Janus asked, frowning down at the knight with a raised eyebrow.

“You’ve gone too long without touch,” Roman said, sighing, “So you aren’t used to it - people need touch to be happy.”

“I am not a person.” Janus pointed out, frowning, he wasn’t even sure why Roman was even still here - now he was telling him he had this strange sickness of some kind? Who did he think he was?

“You don’t have to be a human to be a person,” Roman pointed out, voice irritatingly soft.

Janus narrowed his eyes, “Why are you still here?”

“Why haven’t you told me to leave?” Roman challenged, Janus blinked. People didn’t usually stand up to him - well, not after trying and failing to kill him, anyway. They usually ran in fear after that - that’s how it always went.

Roman held his gaze for a long, quiet moment, before Janus sighed.

“I don’t know,” he said. Eventually, Roman’s expression became one of pity, maybe concern. 

“You…” Roman trailed off, fidgeting with the hem of his sleeve, “Do you have anyone to talk to? Other Gods?”

“I don’t see how that’s any of your business,” Janus said, tone growing icy. Roman frowned, but seemed to understand as he stood up.

“Well - I must get back to my village duties,” He said with a small smile, confusing Janus greatly - though he tried not to show it. Why on earth was he smiling?

“Good,” Janus said sharply, “Leave me be with your prying questions and annoying presence.”

Chuckling, the knight turned away, though the glint in his eyes certainly worried Janus - if only a little, though he tried immediately to get the sight out of his mind, “I will return here in a week's time - for no reason - perhaps I’ll bring some cookies.”

Janus frowned as he watched him leave. Was this mortal trying to tempt him, a God, to return to his own temple, with the promise of cookies? He said nothing as Roman walked away and continued to sit there once the knight was out of sight over the crest of the hill. Janus thought he shouldn’t come back next week - as the mortal was clearly inviting him to - but he wanted to. He really wanted to and Janus wasn’t one to deny himself what he wants despite having not wanted much other than death for the last few hundred years.

Despite that, and despite his harshness towards Sir Roman, he still wanted to see the strange mortal again.

So for the first time he actually kept track of the passing days and a week later he returned to that temple. For the first time he appeared before a knight without hoping that it would be the last time he did so.

For 'THE BEAST IN THE GLASS HOUSE':

1. What is the first part of your WIP that you created?

The outline. I was at a client's house, dog siting for a week, and I just finished reading ROSEMARY'S BABY by Ira Levin. I put down the book, and thought about the gaslighting aspect of the novel, and how scary that is. Then TBITGH appeared in my brain, whole and grown like Athena herself.

2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

Idk about the song, but the direction would be very much like the intro from the first season of the sopranos. Probably it'd be the drive from Damon's office, to Freya's apartment, then to her work. It'd end on Damon putting sunglasses and a mask on.

3. What are your favorite characters that you made? Why?

I hate Damon. He's such a loser so I don't count him as a character LMAO. My favs will have to be Freya or JJ. My love for Freya is hard to explain without spoiling the book lol. To be vague, it's her character arc. For JJ, I love how he ends up and how he develops as a character. Again, can't say much without spoiling.

4. What other pieces of media do you think your fan base would share?

This q kinda confuses me? Like what other shows/books would ppl like if they like my work? Well, my book is for fans of stalker horror (such as YOU by Caroline Kepnes and MISERY by Stephen King). If you're looking for the inspiration of the male love interest, check out THE VAMPIRE DIARIES tv show (seasons 1-3~, the rest are garbageeee), TWLIGHT (both the books and movies, specifically MIDNIGHT SUN), 50 SHADES OF GREY (I've only read the first book so I can't vouch for the movies, but the book is meh-to-bad imo)

5. What has been your biggest struggle with your WIP?

Honestly, writing this thing has been a breeze. I wrote the first draft in under four months. It just flowed out of me. It's this whole 'getting ppl to read it' thing that's the hardest.

6. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!

Werewolves! Mentions of squirrels. The mc is a werewolf and he's a werewolf supremacist. Werewolves on the brain 24/7 baybeeee.

7. How do your characters get around? (Ex. Trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.)

They run on all fours in wolf form, go around on two legs in human form and a special wolf form, drive cars, and drive snow mobiles.

8. What part of your WIP are you working on right now?

The manuscript is done. I'm just waiting on the last edits from a paid editor. Once I do those rewrites, I'll put this up for publishing. Aiming to launch mid June 2025!

9. What aspects (tropes, maybe) of your WIP do you think will draw people in?

Incomplete list: soulmates/instant-love, every werewolf/shape shifter trope under the moon (couldn't help it), billionaire boyfriend, stalker 'romance'. Every 'bad boy boyfriend' trope. I loooove taking tropes and turning them on their heads.

To publish! I'd love it to go gangbusters but my primary hope is just to have ppl read it 'XD

♥ You met Harley at one of her roller derby games - being a figure skater, you enjoyed seeing people roller skate - you immediately caught her eyes as she raced around the track; your Marilyn Monroe styled hair was amazing to say the least

♥ She had to tell you how much she loved your hair, and she did after winner her match, meeting you out in the parking lot before you and your friends left; she made sure to compliment you (a lot), and even gave you her card, which you took with a smile

♥ Her card didn't have any number or address, so you believed that it was going to be difficult to find her, but you were surprisingly wrong - small world, even if it was Gotham - you met her at this small convenience store, where you found her waiting for a breakfast sandwich

♥ You and her decided to walk around Gotham together, but the outing was short lived as she was getting chased by like ten people - you didn't see Harley for a long while, but when you did, she had a Hyena and a kid (and a nice car)

♥ You joined Harley and Cassandra (and Bruce) on their adventures, stealing marshmallows from stores, going around town causing slight chaos, and just having a grand ol' time together

Rabbid DLC spoilers

Phantom mentioned that Rayman’s friendship with Globox is getting weaker, but the last game we seen Globox was in Legends, where his and Rayman’s relationship seemed fine, I would argue it seemed like the same as it was shown in older games (aka best friends)

Call me a conspiracist but , is that possible hints to what Rayman , and by extension Globox , is gonna be like in Captain Laserhawk?

Like the only new Rayman stuff we know for sure is gonna happen is that he is gonna appear in the Netflix show, and we got a lot of hints that this version of Rayman is going be drastically different to his game version (owning a night club and being involved in criminal activities)

Idk how close the Netflix show team and the DLC team were when making their respective projects , so again call me a conspiracist for this, but it could be that when researching roast materiel the DLC crew got a sneak peak or so and decided to implement it into Phantom’s roasting of Rayman.

The Rabbids are confirmed to be in, so it isn’t out the realm of possibility that other Rayman characters will appear. We can see in the trailer we got knock off power rangers and a pig guy (who I’m guessing is from beyond good and evil?) so it’s obvious this show isn’t going for “realism”. (As if there’s anything realistic about anime boys with hair that flows perfectly in the wind as he laser canons robo cops with his cyborg hand lmao)

I bring this up in that, there’s this frog girl (I’m assuming she’s a girl she gives me that vibe, correct me though when the show comes out) whose part of the Assassin Creed and is shown to be part of Laserhawk’s team…. But Assassins Creed never had frog people involved in the series.

While it did dabble in mythology , for the most part the assassin creed series always had human main characters, so why pick a frog girl no one knows about instead of the more well known and canon human characters fans would recognise?

We also know Globox’s children can come in a variety of colours , so he could have a green baby or few

Going back to the main point of Rayman’s friendship with Globox being weak, here are a few possibilities I’m thinking:

Globox is dead because of Rayman and frog girl is out to revenge her dad

Frog girl is hired by Rayman to be his hit woman, which Globox is strongly against

Globox and Rayman’s friendship is ruined because of Rayman’s criminal activity (possibly a heist gone wrong and Globox was thrown in prison?) so Frog girl is out for justice

Frog girl has to do assassins creed job to feed her siblings and Globox isn’t able too for some reason (dead , sick or in jail?) and Rayman is too busy with drugs and hookers to care about them

And if I’ve completely missed the mark here , at least this would be one hell of an au

ANDDD 😭😭 the fact that you picked up on kaeya’s staging!! anon!! i’m so glad that it came across!!! even in writing scenes for stories and not plays, i think about the like “staging” of them quite a lot, often like i’m an audience member myself and i’m always trying to find unique “stage pictures” or like…..these “pictures” that convey something, like in theater. and i loved the idea of having kaeya’s face and staging always away from the audience until he reads the letter at the end of act ii!! and i could CRYYY to compare the scenes to the mondstadt storybook 🥺🥺💗💗 waahhhh thank you so much this fr means the world to me oh my god 💗💗

L'Aventur de Canmom à Annecy - Mercredi 3: The First Slam Dunk

so this is a movie I've wanted to see ever since I saw the trailer.

before that I had never once heard of Slam Dunk, which is a wildly popular and long-running manga series about a delinquent who becomes devoted to basketball, which - in contrast to say Kuroko no Basket - seems to have very little profile in the west. but the visuals of this trailer just blew me away. I didn't even realise it was mostly CG and not just unbelievably tight drawings at first. this film is one of the best uses of nonphotorealistic CG I've ever seen; it absolutely captures the feeling of a manga panel coloured in watercolour. but even more so in motion, the choreography manages to perfectly blend the clarity of manga paneling with naturalistic sports movement. I know basically nothing about basketball, but the animation was so clear that it felt like I could read every move.

so what's this movie about, besides basketball? the structure of the movie is to interleave a movie length basketball game with the backstory of the players, primarily our main boy Ryota, whose family is dealing with the death of Ryota's star basketballer older brother. But all five members of the main team and even the main antagonist player get their own arcs.

And this basketball game - despite knowing how sports movies work, that was so fucking tense. The ebb and flow of points and movement, the tension of each shot, the emotions of the team - I feel like by the end of the movie we've probably seen nearly every possible permutation of basketball events, and yet it never drags. In the final moments I could swear everyone in the theatre was holding their breath. I finally feel it, why people watch sports, instead of it just being something I understand in the abstract.

And to return to the animation, it's honestly incredible - I can only assume they used a method similar to Studio Orange combining 2D choreography and 3D, because the timing, the play of speedup and slowdown and direction of attention, is so on point; somehow it feels like the most realist animation of basketball I've seen and also incredibly manga, with many shots that are clearly splash panels, and even eventually devices like speed lines. The CG - which blends so well that when I saw shots that were probably drawings, I still wasn't sure! - never feels awkward or uncanny, indeed often it's easy to forget it even is CG at all, and I'm dying to know how their shading model works. The lines never look like they're drawn onto a model or display the awkwardness of an inverted hull. I keep coming back to this but it truly feels like seeing a really detailed manga in motion.

It turned out this screening had French subs, and my Japanese vocab is too poor to pick up a lot of the dialogue. So it's a credit to the animation, the acting, that I could still get so invested lmao

So The First Slam Dunk this delivered and then some. I cannot wait for the BDs to come out so I can run this on Animation Night.

No hate but are you ever gonna write a y/n whose whole personality isn’t just being Latina and then making a story out of really common latina stereotypes and surface level fanon interpretations of dc characters ? Don’t get me wrong the SMau’s are entertaining and I appreciate the work you put into the stories but it’s like they’re all the same (again no hate and this is coming from a Latina as well)

a. the majority of the time i write her in ways that reflect how I and the people that surround me act. Seeing as I was born, raised and currently live in Puerto Rico, many interactions, responses, and ways of her acting are based on things that me, my friends, and family have seen, said, done, expressed, and experienced. I truly try to write a character, in all of them, that is proud of her heritage and un afraid to express it. Part of it being inclusive towards latinas, is celebrating that things that make us, us. That is the reason that she demonstrates it as a character. Again, most of the things that I have written are things I have experienced, not stereotypes I have followed. Things such as speaking Spanglish, loving Salsa, missing home, big family dinners, el bochinche, and the genuine love and quick kindness many of us latinos share. Why would I make a Latina reader if I don’t emphasize the latino part.

b. With all respect to your opinion, I can see some similarities between the stories but they are not the same. ‘Lovely as you are’ (Damian x reader) takes on two college students, who don’t get along and are faced with the fact that they are soulmates whilst having a lot of miscommunication. ‘You are my sunshine” (Jason x reader) may follow the same line as LAYA because of the soulmate au, but aside from that it’s a whole different playing field seeing as they are two adults who face attraction from the beginning and develop their relationship from there on. I may have used the miscommunication trope for a second but the story carried on after that. Finally, ‘But oh..cara mia” (Dick x Reader) follows a whole different concept and Yn is not only a latina, she is also an Amazon. For my future stories, to which I already have the drafts for, they as well are not following the same line. Yes, there ARE similarities, such as speaking Spanish and visiting family, but they are not the same. Again, with all respect, do not mix the similarities with saying they are the same. Each story follows a different concept.

c. Finally, for the DC canon vs fannon. Seeing as we ALL read fanfic (reason why we are here lmao), the fanom interpretations are what we are mostly exposed to. Given that, naturally it will flow into the story, yet those are not the only things taken in consideration. Many of the things I have used for inspiration to get the characters right are things such as the animated movies, (ex. Batman: Hush, Son of Batman),the BatFam webtoon (which i sneak a few references to that), Young Justice, Teen Titans, etc. I mainly use the ANIMATED universe as my guide because it is the one I have been mostly exposed to. DC is a very dark universe, which is why most of us love it, but I do like to incorporate some fluff, fun, and light into that world. As a matter of fact, in “But oh..cara mia”, I rewatched the episodes of Teen Titans where Slade appeared so that I could properly showcase that arc. At the same time, given that Dick is most of the time shown as a sunshiny, preppy, go lucky golden boy, I incorporated a lot of his angst and anger from the earlier years in his story (well obviously, unlike the rest he IS the main character in this one, therefore developing him more). Before I write, I go back to the animated movies in order stay refreshed on each of them as a character. The only one I kind of had problems with was Jason because we only have Under the Red Hood, so i took more liberties with him, still trying to stay true to the character. Plus, the fact that we have WAY too many timelines, storylines, universes, and changes in the comics, I guess these takes of them wouldn’t hurt. Finally, if we all wanted full cannon, we would read the comics, this is all done for good hearted fun and entertainment.

Oh boy oh boy I finished Yves’s route…! Spoilers under the cut as usual!

Okay one thing at a time! First off - Hugo is SO Yvesexual oh my god?? Bro just confess already please I’m sorry Ceres is getting in the way! “Partner” pffft yeah okay mister “I literally died from feeling too much love” sure, I hope we all find our own Hugo one day 😂

Also while all the CGs were beautiful in this route (oh his mask coming off, oh him crying in the corner, aaah the one with him sobbing into Ceres 😭 probably the best kiss CG even though it’s just like.. on the cheek LOL), can we talk about Yves’s hair-down sprite? Like… what is that. What happened? Yves honey who did your hair? Did you shred it with your sword yourself?? I would normally brush it off if it just looked a little odd, but Mathis, Lucas, and Ankou all have perfectly normal looking long hair (even Scien’s looks more normal) so clearly this was a choice. But it was a bad choice sorry my boy 💀

Now back to the route itself, I really liked it overall! Yves and Ceres I think have had the best romantic relationship build up (even if they both desperately need therapy). I just gotta yell out some feelings as if this is a liveblog lmao

The way I gasped when Dahut and Nadia showed up? Seriously I did not expect these two to steal my heart so much?? They’re truly a balm for my soul… Any time Dahut shows up now I’m like OH THANK GOD someone who doesn’t need therapy 😩

So… the science in his game has always been *hand wavey* and I think I’m generally good at just going with the flow in fictional stories, but like……… HUH??? Bruh I had to put down my controller and just stare at the screen for a hot second. We’re part flower - aight cool cool anime shit sure whatever. Their genes are different colors - uhhhh… okay, sure I guess? A pair of chromosomes are killed each year and that’s why everyone dies when they turn 23 - HOLD UP WHAT NOW??? Yoooo that’s actually hilarious it made me bust out laughing 😂 (I also still don’t understand why Yves’s family didn’t just tell Scien or someone about the fact that it was the toxins in the soil killing people?? Like bruh)

The whole “relivers can’t learn or change so people can’t even switch careers because their bodies don’t change” thing is also so dumb. Like… what does that even mean? If you worked out would you not gain muscle?? Practicing something wouldn’t help?? What about Hugo going from someone who didn’t have to work a day in his life to one of the best fighters just behind Yves and Adolphe in the Corps after he had become a reliver??? Ah nono don’t think about the science, don’t think about the science… 😩

I did very much love our boys banding together at the end though! If only it was against the mcfucking Royal family and Capucine (and whoever this mysterious “sponsor” is) instead of against Scien… dude I support your experiments, they really should’ve just let us die this time LOL (very glad Capucine got his ass handed to him though, god I hate Capucine… even though he’s kinda pretty, he’s not Jean levels of pretty enough to make me not hate him, especially after Nadia 😂 thank you Scien)

Also I’m sorry I went very feral with Lucas breaking free and showing up to help, especially in the Bourreau outfit in front of Yves and Adolphe!! And final thoughts, where was Ankou at the end?? I loved that he showed up to help Yves and he was the one to give him his mask, but buddy where did you go at the end??? Is there some multiverse or time travel shit going on???? Ceres really decided to follow in the footsteps of Lucas’s despair end with Yves though huh… 👁️👄👁️ sweetie I’m so sorry we really turned you in BBQ, a burnt chicken nugget, fire emblem Sigurd 💀 LMAO
