#flowey and chara

Do you think it makes Flowey kind of upset how much Chara affected him? From his personality, views of the world, the way he talks, ect. I think he wants to move on, but also is desperately trying to hold on. In other words, he's such a complicated character and I love him

it’s definitely incredibly complicated. he wants to let go, but he doesn’t want to forget them. he doesn’t want to sully their memory by throwing the good parts of them away. the problem is, the things he perceived so long to be the good parts were in fact the worst of them. how does he preserve their memory when what he’s been preserving for years has been the side of them twisted by anger and desperation?

he’s also not chara, though. he’s flowey. he based himself on a false perception of them. that means he’s not them. some part of him acknowledges that. everyone’s shaped by the people around them. at the end of the day, becoming flowey was his choice. not chara’s. flowey is his own person, and he always has been.

there’s time needed for adjustment, for sure. to learn to be himself, rather than another chara. he wants to be a mirror, but then again he doesn’t. he doesn’t want to be himself but then again he does. it’s complicated. before he can process that, he needs to figure out who “he” even is. separate “himself” from “chara.” and that’ll take… quite a bit of time.

once he does, though. i think he’ll realize that he and the “chara” he tried to be aren’t two separate entities. same with “asriel.” in some ways, “chara” was honestly just a way of making sense of everything. chara said it’s kill or be killed. he’s just following them.

he didn’t really base himself off of chara. he based himself off an idea of chara. and that idea is, at its root, his. even if he removed chara from the equation, he’d end up mostly the same, i think. they were just an ideal. not a person in the way the real chara is a person.

what if hugs don’t mean anything to flowey because they’ve never meant anything to him.

okay, maybe they did at some point. his parents’ hugs were nice. he liked them.

maybe chara wasn’t much of a hugger. maybe they felt obligated to hug him, though. he was their brother. but it didn’t mean anything.

maybe they used hugs to reassure him that everything would turn out fine. that didn’t mean anything either.

hugs just… lost their meaning. chara didn’t show real love through hugs, or cuddles, or whatever. they weren’t big on the physical side of affection. flowey might not have been much for it either.

toriel and asgore were nose nuzzle champs ‘98. even if their hugs were genuine, flowey had felt enough empty ones that it didn’t matter.
