Making a substantial donation to your university in your honor could probably solve most of your problems. However, he knows that abusing his influence like that would undermine your hard work and independence. This is a challenge you need to overcome on your own, so he opts to help you manage your stress symptoms instead.

When you’re stressed out, it might be easy to forget about the basic necessities so Bruce brings you meals and snacks throughout the day. Sometimes it’s food Alfred prepared and sometimes it’s from your favourite restaurant. Since you’re too busy for date night, Bruce tries to bring date night to you. If you’re living separately and he physically cannot visit you to make sure you are taken care of, he has food delivered to your doorstep. He also likes to surprise you with care packages filled with your favourite snacks and items for a well-deserved self-care moment. He often sends flowers to your home or workplace to lift your spirits and remind you that he’s thinking of you. He might even suggest a bath or shower and he happily joins you if you want. By the end of the day, you feel refreshed and ready to face tomorrow.

Dick

Dick supports your education and he wants you to do well, but he doesn’t want you to take it so seriously that it causes you debilitating stress. He tries to make you laugh whenever you’re having a rough time. Whether you’re feeling irritable, depressed, or anxious before an exam, he swings by your place to give you a motivational pep talk. One time, he came dressed in the iconic High School Musical Wildcats basketball uniform and performed Now or Never, the overly dramatic musical number that Troy et al. sang during the State Championship basketball game. If you’re a HSM fan, you probably joined in on the singing and dancing with him.

Another time, you were doing some last-minute exam review to calm your nerves, but the more you reviewed, the more you forgot and the more you panicked. Taking on a boxer’s cornerman’s/trainer’s voice, he fake-aggressively reminded you that you’d studied for hours, you knew the material and you just needed to trust yourself now. You could be in the middle of a mob of students fleeing the exam centre while everyone discusses their answers and all you want to do is hurry home and forget about the brutal exam. But then you spot Dick. He’s standing in front of his car with a delicious treat in hand, a smile to light up the world, and a kiss waiting for you – the most heavenly sight in the world. This, of course, does not require a voucher.

Jason

During finals week, you practically live in the 24hr Gotham University library. On occasion, you might stay overnight so you don’t have to spend time commuting and so you can study all night without disturbing your roommate. The library even has private study rooms that you can reserve, so it’s perfect for camping out all night. The first time you did this, Jason nearly had an aneurism when he didn’t find you safely tucked into your bed. Since then, he insists on accompanying you on your overnight library escapades because this is Gotham and he is overprotective as heck. Plus, Jason just really loves libraries. He walks up and down the stacks grabbing books left, right, and centre. He’s like a kid in a candy shop and it’s absolutely precious. Jason always snags a plush armchair and drags it into the study room so he can fully immerse himself in book.

When you’re tired and in need of a nap, Jason lets you crawl onto his lap and sleep in his arms. Just snuggling against his chest with your head tucked into the junction between his neck and shoulder provides enough warmth and comfort to lull you into a relaxing sleep. Sometimes he reads aloud to you if you’re interested in his book. You can feel the vibrations in his chest and hear the deeper tones in his voice, which is quite possibly the most soothing experience in the world – it just melts away the stress. Most of the time Jason stays awake with one arm wrapped securely around your frame and a book in the other hand, though he just might drift into some much-needed rest if you drape an arm over his torso as if you were hugging a giant teddy bear.

Before Jason goes on a mission, it has become a ritual for you to give him a passionate kiss, tell him how much you love him, and incentivize him to come back to you in one piece. Jason basically does the same for you before you write an exam. This close to an exam, you’re probably anxious and trying to do some last-minute review which means you’re probably distracted and forget to collect your good luck kiss. Jason tugs your wrist and brings you to a stop before him. With both hands, he cradles your face and kisses you senseless until you have all but forgotten about the exam. When he finally pulls away, he promises you a celebration when you come home, shoots you a playful wink, and gives you one last kiss because he can’t help it.

And when you get home, Jason certainly delivers. He has all your favorite comfort foods laid out on the coffee table with the tv running an episode/movie on your watchlist and a fluffy throw blanket on the couch. There will probably be lots of cuddling, massages, and other relaxing activities to follow. All in all, Jason makes this week of hell much more bearable.

Tim

Between running Wayne Enterprises and running around Gotham at night, Tim is always having a stressful week so he can sympathize with you. Relaxing is a foreign concept to him, so he doesn’t actually know how to help you. But that’s okay because at least you can be stressed out together and commiserate with each other. There have been many long nights spent in the study room at Wayne manor with your textbooks and Tim’s case files strewn about on the desks and even spilling over to cover the floor. You might find solace in having company while you spend the night studying, especially if you’re pulling an all-nighter since it can feel isolating when you’re awake at 4am and the rest of the city is sound asleep.

Tim hypocritically worries about you when you when you start adopting bad sleeping habits. If you have a lot of work and studying to do, you might end up substituting quality sleep for a couple of cat naps throughout the day and drinking ungodly amounts of caffeine. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. You make a deal with him that you’ll start practicing better sleep hygiene if he does as well. You’re both hard-working and dedicated so this agreement ends up being more challenging than you expected and you probably catch each other cheating. Maybe you need a midnight snack to get you through the night so you make a quick dash to the convenience store and Red Robin happens to spot you while on patrol. He scolds you for putting yourself in danger when you should be safely sleeping at home. You remind him that he’s supposed to be sleeping, too, and that shuts him up. After that incident, you decide to hold each other accountable by spending the night together. That’s probably how you end up sharing a bed for the first time. You probably hold each other in some way, whether it be holding hands, linking pinkies, or wrapping an arm around the other, as a way to ensure that the other behaves and stays in bed throughout the night.

Dealing with stress in a healthy way is a learning experience for the both of you. You motivate Tim to want to be healthier for your sake and his. It probably strengthens your relationship, too. Tim probably enrolls you both in a variety of relaxation activities such as yoga and couples’ massages.

Tim helps you study if you need a buddy. If he doesn’t know the material, he reads up on it so that he can be useful. He doesn’t mind because he values knowledge and wants to learn as much as he can. By the end of your program, you’ll probably joke that Tim has also earned the degree/certificate/diploma and should convocated with you. If you have a practical exam that requires a human subject, Tim gladly allows you to practice on him. Whether you’re in a healthcare program and need to practice drawing blood or you’re in an art program and need to practice drawing human anatomy, Tim is very cooperative. He just wants to help in any way that he can.

Damian

Damian is a practical person. He’ll do a lot of little things to make your life easier. Maybe you’re more forgetful and disorganized when you’re under a lot of stress. Maybe on the morning of your exam you have to forgo all the inessentials, meaning no breakfast, no personal hygiene or grooming, and you’re rocking your pajamas or an outfit that was due for a wash two weeks ago. When you find a seat in the exam room and started to unpack your test materials, you’re pleasantly surprised to find some granola bars/other travel friendly foods of your liking, a canteen of water, and an encouraging note. He also restocked your pencil case. You know those stubby pencils that were too short to sharpen? Yeah, he recycled those out and left you with some new sharpened No. 2 pencils, spare mechanical pencils, and blue and black inked pens. It makes you wonder what he has in his utility belt. He probably carries around a small army surplus store.

Damian is an expert at walking you through a hot moment of stress/anxiety/panic. For example, you might have 20 hours worth of reading and only 10 hours to get through it. Just thinking about the overwhelming mountain of work ahead of you might paralyze you, preventing you from accomplishing even the simplest tasks such as opening your textbook. Procrastinating probably stresses you out even more because now you have less time to do the same amount of work. When you get into that vicious cycle, Damian is be there to help you find your way out.

First, he takes you away from your work and lead you to somewhere comfortable and safe, most likely the couch or bed. He asks you what you’re thinking and lets you talk as much or as little as you want. Damian calmly challenges some of the thoughts you’re experiencing. “My professor already thinks I’m stupid because my presentation was the worst in the class. I need to do well on this exam otherwise they won’t write me a good letter of recommendation.” In response, Damian asks, “Did your professor say you’re not smart or that your presentation was the worst?” You pause before responding, “No, but I know what a good presentation is, and mine wasn’t good.” To this, Damian tells you, “Well, Beloved, that’s only your opinion. You don’t know what your professor thinks until they tell you.” Hopefully that eases some of your anxious thoughts so you can focus on doing your work.

Most of the time, Damian tries to be proactive and prevent you from spiraling down. If you enjoy animals, he’ll train Titus and Alfred to be your furry emotional support companions. He encourages you to take breaks and go for walks with him and Titus throughout the day. If taking a break makes you feel guilty, Damian reminds you that you’ll be more productive after a break. Logically, you know he’s right, but that probably doesn’t stop the guilt. If you protest, Damian will resort to scooping you up in his arms and carrying you around the block for some fresh air. You probably receive a lot of stares from strangers on the street, but there isn’t anything Damian wouldn’t do for you.

Dang it. Ant hadn’t wanted to be late to the shop today. Summer had set in fully and, with it, plenty of citizens wanting to buy all manner of flowers, herbs, bush starters, and gardening tools for the new planting season. It wasn’t as busy as March, not remotely, but it was hard for any one person to do on their own. And with Má out of town for a spa trip she’d won from some radio contest, Carla was holding down the shop. Carla, who was the only Flores to have ever killed a plant. Carla, who would rather hide behind their ferns than speak to a customer. He should have been there. But no, the college had him filling out course paperwork in-person, an ‘ever-helpful’ (read: busybody) upperclassman to ‘guide’ him along the way. As a ‘non-traditional student,’ Ant was assigned a separate Dean, one who was, in a word, involved with their students. It drove Ant up the wall. It was barely July, couldn’t he just decide courses later? He pedaled harder, trying to will his bike to cut through midday traffic and break through Downtown and back to the Bend, back to Flores Flores, back to things that mattered.

Even with all of the pollen and insects drifting into her apartment, Regan had never been more happy to have one of her windows accidentally left open. Thank you, Blanche. After being cooped up inside for days on end with nothing to do other than feel sorry for herself, it felt good to just have the sun shining on her face. She sat up on the windowsill and did her best not to look down. She’d been doing a lot of that lately — trying not to think about the deadly distance between herself and even the floor of her apartment below. But even just a two story drop felt like the view from the top of the Empire State Building. Don’t think about it. She kept her eyes closed and let sleep take hold. She was big in her dreams — normal-sized again; sleep was practically the only respite, and she welcomed it. 

Claws around her arm jolted her awake. Her head shot up at the bird, then down down at her dangling feet, and the cars whizzing past and the subadult on a bicycle and the nothing absolutely nothing directly underneath her. Regan couldn’t keep the scream in her chest; it exploded out of her, and the bird immediately cawed in pain, talons twitching as she slipped out and plummeted down, down, down. The force of the air around her was practically blinding and deafening, and the ground was getting closer and closer and — the wings. Wings! Rumpleskuffs! They flung open and even though she couldn’t move the damn things quickly enough and didn’t know what to do or how to do it and death seemed to be rapidly approaching, they slowed her descent enough that the thunk as she landed in the basket of a bicycle didn’t outright kill her. Her patellas smacked against the bottom and she screamed again — or maybe never stopped — and she felt the ground underneath her move and swerve and nausea stabbed at her stomach. 

The early summer sun beat down on Ant’s back, coming up in waves off of the pavement. Midday, when folks would be the most likely to dip into the shop, if only for a brief rest from the heat. God, Antonio hoped the air conditioner hadn’t broken down again. A sharp sound, a… a scream, almost, drew him out of his mission and, for a moment he slowed down. The sustained note came to him, after a fraction of a second, as black, deep and dark and unexpected. Not many things registered, in his long experience, as such a pure black. Ant didn’t know enough of the science, but he did know something about art. He’d always privately thought of black as a combination of different frequencies, maybe, notable for how much it drew him out of his daily experience, made him want everything to stop. Most times, the colors were background noise. But not black.

It was coming closer. The whizzing, high-pitched noise was getting louder and louder, and Antonio brought his bike to a sharp stop, if only to cover his ears from the sound and try and drown it out. His eyes, though, were open, and that’s how he saw it. Something big landed with a felt-thunk into his old, reliable basket. Huh? He pulled his bike to the side of the road, kicked the stand out, and stood, approaching the basket with caution. He didn’t know what it could have been… but he wasn’t about to lose an eye to a freaky bug. After all, he only had two eyes. When he peered into the basket, he wasn’t really sure what he was looking at. A brilliant shade of green, the bug — it had to be some sort of bug, right? — appeared to be moving. Was it hurt? Could bugs feel hurt? Ant wished he hadn’t slept so much in biology. Still wouldn’t understand anything, but he’d feel that maybe he could know something, instead of, whatever, knowing that he didn’t know something. There was a lid to the basket, and he brought his hands up to it, bringing his face closer to get a better look… 

Everything was blurry. Regan winked her eyes open and tried to gain her bearings. She was somewhere dark, surrounded by walls on all sides, but when she looked up, there was a clear, blue sky. Everything seemed to move around her. She remembered — the bird. The scream. The fall. Was she concussed? Regan managed to pull herself to her knees, gritting her teeth against the ache of her bones. The wings flittered in pain. “Vestibular oculomotor assessment. Cervical spine. Balance. Right. I remember how —” She blinked again, groaning as she pulled herself to her feet, palming the side of… something for support. She didn’t have everything required for a proper assessment, but she’d have to make due. Regan extended an arm, frowning at the talon marks in her skin, and held a finger up straight ahead of her. Slowly moved it toward her forehead to check for double vision. As she was taking assessment, she nearly screamed again as a shadow loomed over her. Regan froze, head slowly tilting up. Two huge, curious, dark eyes peered down at her, fingers curled around the edge of… whatever she was inside of. Regan stumbled backwards, falling on her coccyx again. “Who are you? I don’t — where am I?”

Antonio squinted at the insect in his basket, watching as the bug chittered and checked its wings. Cicada-like? The screaming… Oh, of course. His má had warned him about the oncoming screamers, the cicadas that made Maine their home; they weren’t quite locusts, more of a plague to Ant’s poor ears than anything else. Picking the carcases off of the plants and putting them in with the compost was a menial task, but one that Antonio was happy to do. The creature was… looking at him? A dark head, green — again, what a good shade, he should try to mix that… Ah. An idea occurred to him. If the cicada stayed out here, in the hot sun, injured as it must be, it would get picked up by a bird and hurt. Ant didn’t want that to happen to it. It was small, sure, but the cicadas lived their life underground, and Antonio, once this day was over, would have time to ask Isabel for her help in finding the best way to return it to the wild. This was her domain; unlike Carla or Veronica, Isabel had always loved digging in the ground, finding new things to study. It was only expected that she would become an ent— ant— insect-person; Antonio could never remember the name, too close, in his mind, to other, more accurate, words. The bug chittered at him again, still in the basket, and Ant made his decision. “I’ll keep you safe,” he said, giving a gentle wave to the cicada, and closed the lid of the basket. He would just have to make the trip back a little slower. Carla would be fine. Probably.

The head that was casting a dark shadow over whatever thing Regan was inside was looming closer and closer and eyeing her with what looked like curiosity. The lack of malice on his face didn’t really matter; it was terrifying. She could smell his breath and see every tooth in his mouth. “Hey, answer me!” She screeched, balling up her fists. She couldn’t feel movement anymore, but she didn’t like feeling trapped. There seemed to be no stairs, no doors, no obvious way to climb out of whatever was holding her right now. “I’m a medical doctor! You can’t keep me here! And I don’t need to be kept safe, I need to make sure I’m not concussed.” She looked up, past his head, and wondered just how far she’d fallen. It was surprising she wasn’t dead. She’d had decedents that had died of much shorter falls. Regan twisted her neck back to check the wings. Had they actually functioned? “Am I in a car? Somehow? Pull over and let me out, immediately, and I won’t call the police.” Was he ignoring her? But something covered the container she was in, and Regan was pitched into darkness. She was trapped. Really trapped. She did the only thing she could think to do — she inhaled a deep breath and screamed.

Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow. The little bug was unhappy, Antonio could understand that much.
