Actually, it started earlier than 1939, and it was smart marketing as much as anything else! Rural North American women used the cloth from feed and flour sacks to make towels, curtains, and other items as early as the 19th century. The companies making the feed and flour realized there was a market here, and they began adding patterns to the bags to encourage buying the same product every time. (For context, a 100-pound sack of chicken feed yields about 1 yard of fabric. 3 yards is the standard amount for a lot of adult dresses, and most people prefer that the parts of their garments match. So farm wives had an incentive to stick with, say, Gingham Girl products at least long enough to get enough gingham for a new dress.)

The making and wearing of feedsack clothing hit its peak in the 1930s and then began dropping off during WW2, when feedsacks switched to paper due to war rationing of cotton. But you can still find examples of feedsack patterns (special patterns made for use with feedsacks, sometimes printed right on the bags) floating around.

TL;DR, feedsack dresses and other clothes started WAY before 1939, mill owners knew about it long before that, and the pretty patterns were more about marketing than kindness. But turning feedsacks into clothing is still very cool of those long-ago rural folks to do.

you dropped onto the couch next to him, giving him a small smile. "not quite the result we were hoping for, huh?"

15. hello! i have yet another hyper-specific itmf request, so no worries if nobody has any recs lol. i'm looking for any fics that involve a character having to relearn how to communicate with others. like, (re)learning how to speak mandarin or how to act "normal." recovery fics also might count? i've recently realized this is a type of fic i really like for some reason so i'm looking for more! any setting is fine :)

this is weird enough that i want to explain it just to be clearer, so,,,, some examples in fics i've read are: zombie wei wuxian, whose mental faculties are only just coming online after being braindead (in A Corpse Called By Name); and wei wuxian being displaced in time, forced to learn modern mandarin instead of the ancient language he speaks (in The Shade of Old Trees). i know this next one isn't a mdzs fic, but another example would be xie lian in A Long And Slow Recovery, in which he just got out of the coffin and is struggling to act human and recover fully.

This is going to be my only post I ever do THIS. It needs to be said (if even only for me). Be warned. (& I'm totally being a little funny & unserious with my words, but I also mean it). but really I just need to be so silly for a moment..

I've been in some fandoms and every fandom goes through this, but...There's no fandom on earth that quite literally walked in with no changes to the picture of the Community meme like the Bridgerton fandom. yayyy! we made history again We are the exact same picture, because it wasn't that bad! I can nearly guarantee you, people noticed the quality change, but it literally wasn't bad like you say! Some of us truly stumbled in here like wtf, and still haven't gotten the answer. Stumbling into Part 1..was stressful, but Part 2 was actual insanity!

like, I honestly don't think some people watched it all the way (i saw something about ppl finishing in 2 hours)! If they even went back, who knows?! But the takes are just literal fables!

I actually think the blind trolls coming back from the dead & thin air for part 1 have deluded some of you into thinking that part 1 was bad (it wasn't; it was good), and as a result made you think that part 2 was worse than it is. I totally respect your differing opinion, but you're wrong!

There are 2 real "issues" with this season and the other stuff is artificial grass.

#1 The lack of happy couple moments that get replaced by boring side plots (part 1 was actually enjoyable to me, but this one I actually almost fell asleep watching Benedict before I was awoken by his bi awakening). But to be frank, it's always been an ensemble, and I find it funny that people forget: People bitched about polin season 2; they bitched about Penelope since season 1.

The fact that they don't get a full episode 8 of being happy in love was criminal (but i will admit my wrong expectation, because this is Bridgerton (what else is there to expect, lol). However they are cute! Naysayers, deny it all you want, but they are literally perfect! They are literally a cute engaged couple, the moms including Lady Danbury cannot help but squeal over them, and the only thing holding them back is that this conflict is seemingly dragged on, BUT it doesn't even go on long! (perhaps it felt that way because there were only 4 in this batch of eps). And I get you can be upset, but stop the bullshit because "WE WERE ROBBED." You are lyyyyinnnnnggggg.

He finds out in 6! Anthony was with her sister for 6 eps ... Simon....avoided her til she had to make the move at the end. If we're including Queen Charlotte, George got the most cohesive story, but we'll chalk that priviledge up to the fact that he got only 6 eps; and also don't lie, the recycle-rinse-repeat episode was boring(!!!!) minus the last scene & the visitation of his trauma (u can disagree w/this, but I was bored the first time watching and didn't ask for the copy & paste same episode).

#2 is the pacing (really the last 1⅓-ish episodes is the problem)- because I wish they made up by the end of 7, which is really more of the same of what I said about them being happier in the final one. However, (which brings me to my point) if they'd shifted him finding out earlier... (again they only had 1 episode prior to do this in (because there was no way it was happening in part 1 even if the 2 part split never existed), ...it could have fixed most likely all of this: if everything was moved up an episode (+ they switched Cressida's reveal + Colin finding out), they'd be fighting in 7 but united for Cressida's lie, then they'd make up by the end, and they wouldn't still be struggling with differences between them in the first part of episode 8 at all, thus there would be the happy couple moments from my point #1.

And I newly realized how this aspect of polin's season arc compares to the others. The conflicts of the other 2 seasons have been more heavily external obstacles preventing them from really getting together, while visiting some internal demons later after the drama; but this season is pretty much just them with internal conflict between them (if not for all of part 1 then for the entirety of part 2! (i personally think that the Debling stuff is less love-trianglry than what they've done in the past & fr he is in 2 eps really and not even fully courting her for majority of it)! Enemies to lovers does have internal conflict between them in the beginning, but it's not something actually between them that's "preventing" them from riding into the sunset (other than fake fighting like they hate each lol i say w/love 4 the characters & E2L). But since Colin and Pen's conflict is actually her (Whistledown) it maybe feels like they are more at odds than what is truly going on under the surface. Because they are established to love each other already unlike the other couples, who you are seeing the journey and getting to the end. While Part 2, you are seeing the unraveling of an established couple even though the love is there and the only important reason you need to get how they can work it out. We won on complexity and realness harder than the people w/bad takes can fathom, they have to make stuff up!

The other (kind of related for some) stuff:

The sex scenes: I get it! They lied (lol)! I hope we get them! But we know why it's lacking; they're deleted scenes; they exist! But the carriage scene - HOT. The mirror - HOT. The 30 second scene (lol) - HOT. But again: K*nthony got 2 spicy scenes their season! S*phne got a montage but it kind of sucked looking back (i'm not seriously hating but you know that it was too much, literally even then i think ppl knew) but plz don't start the ship discourse again & PLZ DO BE LOUD ABOUT THESE SCENES THO, I NEED THEM (lol)

But the love confession.....sssssssss. There were so many!!! *that book one is not good, i'm sorry (i'm being lighthearted here; you can disagree w/it but I do kind of hatttte it!)

"They didn't include..." don't know if you know but the writers make the story. Their story is not the book. You knew what you jumped into. (you can be sad but..) [i am not touching the conversation on Fran. But if we're really being real that side shouldn't wanna be grouped w/the side of The Departeds who are forever the head of online harrassers....by - now causing official pages to disable their comments (you don't have to tell me it wasn't all of you. I know 😔). it's actually kind of funny how I did not know like 95% of the actual discourse those first couple days (and there's a lot of discourse to see). but, anyway my main concern this whole post are my top 2 mcs. [ps the Departeds I meant traveling; i'm not that mean]

This show has never been comparable to your favorite Oscar-worthy film (literally obviously!), but the show is not terrible like some very widely popular of what's out there (and i'm not even talking about bad shows that everyone knows are bad). There is some depth to the characters and some ingrained-trauma to living in a male-dominated society with no autonomy, and traumas to the men as well. Re: the choices and drama every season. It's... a drama show! People need to go re-read the fantasy books if they want happy, lack of conflict all the time (and men yanking their wives by the wrists)... Go read fanfic if you don't like the show and a certain couple. Bridgerton is escapism and in some crazy overtaking of loud voices in the fandom, this fandom has been one of the least escap-ist fandoms ever. Because people will be like "*suspending my disbelief*" every 2 secs, but ...babe that's not doing what you just said. There's embellished "Based on a True Story" documentary fans that do this better than you tbh (i'm being a lil funny here, but honestly)

Favorite thing about them:

It is really hard to point out something concrete! She is a very complex and well-written character, who has done a lot of bad and a lot of good, not to mention grandiose presence in the lore and worldbuilding! She appeared very cold and cruel through her words passed along and actions that we've learned about, but then there has also always been fixation on life, light, bounty and prosperity! I struggle to find a compromise between her war criminal oppressor side and her striving to create a warm heaven for self and others side! But maybe that's the point; big, strong, legendary, impactful figures in history always did BOTH bad and good, but become immortalised in history as just one of these dualities! When shaping history is always both creating and destroying! This is how 'shaping' works!

^^^ I like that she gives people a choice! Just like an actual idea of 'God' without being distorted; you have safety, love and purpose if you cooperate and you can choose struggle without any guidance if you want to! That some people can interpret as that "serve in heaven rule in hell" shit

^^^ I also like that she encouraged people that put faith in her to actually think! This is basically encouraging Fundamentalism which is "scholarship in all but name", but she doesn't want people to just blindly follow; she wants them to understand WHY they'd follow!

But I think above all, I like her tragedy of failing to build this perfect world and how it ends. I talked just recently about it in the post ( x ) about what was it that Gideon saw in "her will" that made him turn against everything prior, but in short: she wanted to keep the world in the state of permanent disarray, just as long as it doesn't recover and perpetuate the Golden Order.

The thing about a new Lord coming to her to be her consort and thus fixing everything? That's what Two Fingers had everyone believe and wanted, not her. :p She probably knew that she can't die by Shattering nor by a hand of a human, though maybe left a hope someone will find a way by urging Hewg to keep striving for a god-slaying weapon. But if she, and thus, Elden Ring, can't be killed, people can just stay away from it forever. That Gideon understood and we didn't and he deserves more credit for it fdshfdh

I compare her with Gwyn often, as they are the same trope of Fromsoft character: a divinity that tried to build a better world yet did a lot of evil to accomplish it and it was, tragically, corrupt by good intentions! But she did one thing he didn't: she was smart enough to know where it was going and oppose perpetuating cycle! Gwyn sacrificed himself to reignite what he gave to the world, Marika sacrificed herself to undo it! I know many people dislike this trope, as "the bad guy gets redeemed by sacrifice instead of doing a harder thing of staying alive and FIXING things they've done!", which is valid! But here it is not necessarily given as a noble act that "redeems" her, nor exposed as "cowardly" act! The narration allows us to interpret it however we want, but the real thing here: it is a human act. It was not rational or wise, but it sure was full of remorse

Basically I think I want to say, for a human, she made a pretty great God all things considered, because she was thinking about world and future and people, not just self.

Least favorite thing about them:

Her playing karma ping-pong with Hornsent and alike, for the lack of better term. 🙄 I believe that Omen curse was a direct result of the Crusade! Not even just because Grandam mentions it, it can always be a localisation error! But because it is logical: wraits, who are spirits of the dead mind you, haunting Omens, are horned! Like, yes, sure, her cruelty to the last Fire Giant and all blahblahblah, but girl what is this Omen Twins situation? They are your own children! They, and other Omens, already suffer with horrifying nightmares paying for YOUR sins, don't make it worse by either isolating them or encouraging "healing" them with heavy lethal rate procedure!

Betrayal means she was a trusted figure for them! As in, she held the power and influence enough to potentially help to gradually rid Hornsent culture of dangerous beliefs and practices! Like integrate them a bit more in the population under Erdtree that is largerly hornless, help them to see nobody is more or less divine, all that.. The cycle could have ended with HER! But she chose the grief and pain over healing (and Messmer probably amplified it, Crow I know you're dying to post that serpent theme is not incidental, you are not slick!!!)

She could have ended all this, she had the power! Why Ancient Dragons could have it but not them? We all know why: personal trauma. And yes, this is so sad, and so realistic, and I love this WRITING, but I can ALSO judge a character! Though, her actions ricocheting into whole Vengeance-Seeking Hornsent NPC's character was ALSO a good writing... argh

I am still not sure what is the context! Was it something she said upon already deciding on the Shattering, as foreshadowing for what infights will unravel? Or her mother skills were Just Like That, as she viewed her children first of all as tools of building a better world and being helpful powers to it, not as those living just for the heck of it? Silly, but the latter interpretation is basically a problem that existed in Disney's movie Encanto, where Alma would find a use for community in all family members with special powers but neglected the one born without any xD Anyways, badass quote no matter what was the context for it!

Does..... does Marika have friends? Many are either her family in one way or another or her lovers. xD I think Hewg qualifies the best, as wild as it sounds; Misbegotten are viewed as impure within her order and he speaks of her from obvious imbalanced position of reverence, but despite everything, she confided in him! It feels like a tragedy of people who were meant to be close friends but too much time was gone because of circumstances, decisions of the past which aftermaths lasted for centuries to taint everything, mistakes and absence of one of the sides (oh I wonder who... 🙄) or simply meeting too late in life. You can't tell me they didn't wish they'd met sooner / they could go back in time / whatever your interpretation is!

OTP:

I think she and Godfrey definitely deserved each other! They are a fun pair of war criminals! Marika trusts him a lot for sure! I think it was not just by being impressed by his power and fierceness as it is, but maybe something sadder, though? After learning the Shaman Village lore, I can't help but feel that she'd seek a very big and strong person capable of crashing her enemies FOR her on instinctive level. Because that terrified, defenceless girl is still somewhere deep inside.. Even past the point she herself can wield a hammer JUST fine! SHE was the one who killed Fell God, not him! :p I think he understood that and saw it not as being a tool, but on the contrary, felt honored that he could be of support.

^^^ At the same time, this line made me wonder whether Marika divested him and his warriors of grace for his sake, sort of? Even with Serosh on his back, he still values a good battle and power! I think their relationship were held on battles! When there is no enemy for them to defeat, or in most cases, for him to defeat for her sake, he would just start to wither. Passion between them likely was low when he hadn't defeated anyone recently! :p She was bitter about it, maybe thought a bit lower of him seeing that he is physically incapable of enjoying life without a good battle and her love is not enough, but knew it would be better for him and group he created to at least fight elsewhere rather than just be Standing There while things are alright!

It feels to me like relationship that can only blossom under certain circumstances, even if for an unhappy reason! They might even have conflicts; her being appalled at a person that doesn't wish peace, as someone who went through hell and wished nothing more than that, and him being weirded out at how someone wishes to stagnate when to live is to ever assert yourself. And this is valid! Conflict is healthy! Their issues meet one another the right way!

Random headcanon:

I know that Radagon studied incantations, but I do not think these are actually his! Marika is a NERD! Her bedchamber is FULL of scrolls and scripted stone plates! She likes to study... and to preserve!

These plates and scrolls are the same that are found in Specimen Storehouse. I do not think that they are strictly connected with the research on how to recover Shamans from the jars; if anything, you'd think she gave up on it long ago, especially since Shadow Realm was severed from the Lands Between. But they are valuable knowledge and history!

I am just trying to say, she is the type to keep remnants of culture and history, including which she was responsible for destruction of. There are tanks and shields modelled after Fire Giants so people still remember the fear that evaded them, but I also think that Stormveil had Godskins' Prayerbook in it because Godrick stole it from Leyendell! Marika still preserves history, Messmer' Fire Knights still preserve history.... yeahhh, Messmer is an odd one out wishing to just burn everything down. -_-

Unpopular opinion:

I do love to compare her with Gwyn, however? The takes like "Marika is so complex and morally grey and well-written whereas Gwyn just likes genocide" AND the takes like "it is funny how Marika is just Gwyn but so much more evil and worse in every way" irritate me a bit! When they're not in a joke way! They are both very well-written, both wished for a better world yet built it on blood, both feared fire/darkness respectively, both ended up doing more harm than good despite noble intentions, and although with different purpose, both sacrificed themselves!

....and both fall for either idealisation or demonisation. As well as one being hyped above another. "Oh Gwyn was such a great character, Marika is just a bleak copy, Fromslop can never repeat the former success" vs "Oh Marika is such a huge improvement in writing, Gwyn was really bland in comparison, really just a draft for actually good character in the future".... 🤦‍♂️ Let's NOT pit the bad bitches against each other any more!!

- You, on the other hand, are the skeptical one. While Yuuji marvels at the doll, you’re already grilling the pink guards with questions they obviously won’t answer.

- The seriousness of the situation doesn’t hit either of you until the game started and someone moves and gets shot. The blood spray and subsequent screams quickly silence Yuuji’s enthusiasm.

- Yuuta is immediately shouting orders, his tone so sharp it sends chills down your spine. His urgency makes you and Yuuji nervous—why is this guy acting like he’s seen this before?

- Post-game, Satoru decides to recruit you and Yuuji into his “group.” Begrudgingly, you agree. Better to be his ally than his target. Your group now consists of you, Yuuji, Nobara, Megumi, and the unhinged menace himself.

- Satoru somehow befriends other groups too, including Nanami’s crew (which features Maki, Inumaki, Panda—yes, an actual panda—and Yuuta). Even Player 001 seems oddly fascinated by Satoru. Is this the old man yaoi

- Who’s player 001 again? Sagugu? Doesn't matter.

Game 2: Six Legged

- After the voting system is initiated, you and your brother are one of the loudest advocates for leaving. Sure, the games are darkly amusing to you, but with Yuuji present, there’s no way you’re risking his life for entertainment.

- Unfortunately, the majority votes to stay, and you’re stuck.

- Sukuna, of course, is the loudest supporter of continuing the games, which only irritates you further.

- The game is straightforward, but the tension is palpable. Thankfully, your group works well together, completing the task quickly. Satoru even manages to annoy the guards by flipping off the guards just for fun.

- During the break, Yuuji starts feeling guilty. He climbs into your bunk, his expression downcast. “Y/N… I’m sorry. If it weren’t for me…” His voice cracks, and you realize he’s blaming himself for everything.

- “It doesn’t matter,” you say firmly, taking his hand. “What matters is that we both stay alive. Together.”

my thoughts on CHAPTER 1 + a Bonus Drabble Fanfic

So, the Tart Incident. Was Ace aware that he was stealing it? I think yes, because otherwise he wouldn't have made a comment on nobody noticing. If he does nothing wrong, it wouldn't matter if someone notices him. Not cool. I agree with Yuu, that Ace was in the wrong and should apologize.

Oh, the statue that got damaged yesterday is already repaired. That was quick. Was that done with magic? Could Ramshackle Dorm get repaired like that, too?

Ace gets teased/insulted by Deuce, then Grim and now Cater. Ace can't catch a break.

Ace looks so miserable, when he is painting the roses. Mood.

The way they are playing "croquet" is not appropriate animal care... But it's still not as bad as what some animals who get used for making food have to endure.

They have the same subjects as Hogwarts. The school building looks a lot like Hogwarts. They have ghosts and talking portraits just like Hogwarts. The C in NRC could also stand for Copy.

The chandelier is already fixed, too. Wow.

Cater mentions the previous housewardens of Heartslabyul for the second time that day. I can see why there was a theory that he is a previous housewarden.

Yuu's first interaction with Leona... a total meet-ugly.

I like Trey's sense of humour.

Ace peels the chestnuts with his eyes closed for most of the time. Looks like he's tired. He probably couldn't sleep well with that collar.

Deuce makes the delinquents run away with their (metaphorical) tails between their legs, for the second time. I wonder if they will respect him now or if they will never learn and continue to ruin their own days by picking fights they can't win.

So that is a tart. I didn't expect it to be so mountain-shaped.

Trey's ultimate magic is interesting.

Cater's ultimate magic is the shadow clone jutsu from Naruto.

Wait, they change the clothes with magic? They have only one outfit and transform it into different versions? Okay...

Discussion! Nice that they are trying it by talking before choosing violence. Ace is right, the rules are stupid.

Grim, who has a history of throwing tantrums, accuses Riddle of throwing a tantrum. A bit hypocritical (made me laugh), but also, if Grim considers something a tantrum, it shows, it's very unhinged and stupid, lol.

Doesn't fit into the story to have a magic batte when the gang gets kicked out, because Ace, Deuce and Grim all don't have their magic.

Trey narrates Riddle's backstory. I think the Disney character Riddle is actually based on is Amity Blight.

If it was allowed to use physical violence during the Duel, I think Deuce would have won.

What counts as winning/losing the duel? It seemed over, after Ace and Deuce couldn't use their magic anymore, but it was actually still on, even though they couldn't possibly win anymore, until Ace got disqualified for using his fists. Deuce likely got disqualified, when Trey helped him out of the collar. But how is this settled without disqualification? First blood? Going down? Someone has to admit defeat? I am curious, I hope I can see another Duel in the future. -> This point led to a micro fanfic at the end of the post.

The voice acting for Riddle was done so well in the Overblot Scene. That was some unhinged shrieking!

Epic Battle! Nice!

The friendship part of the flashback was so cute! Riddle's mother is twisted from Gothel. She indoctrinated "Mother knows best". Terrible. Worst character so far.

Riddle understands he was wrong, because the others were stronger than him, and because they all united against him. It's good he understands after all.

Happy End! Lovely. And funny.

Riddle and Trey both had valuable character development for the better in this arc, which I enjoyed a lot.

Overall, I liked this part a lot and I like all the main characters.

Bonus Drabble/Plot Bunny (with a meme!): Ace ragequit the dorm after getting defeated and Deuce worked hard on harsh remedial tasks. On the day he finally finished them and got his magic back, he was very fed up, and Riddle made a comment, that sent Deuce over the edge. As Riddle turned his back on Deuce, suddenly a giant cauldron slammed into him from above and knocked him out. Deuce thought, he would get expelled for losing his temper and doing this, but he merely had won the Duel, which Riddle had wrongfully assumed he himself had won long ago, after all - and became Housewarden!

If you think that people are inherently unfit to govern themselves why then do you believe that a few people can be fit to govern everyone?

The only possible answer to this is “we have to put the most special/correct people in charge” and, ignoring for a moment how silly that is, how do you ensure that only those “good” people are at the helm of that massive and devastating machine you want to keep around?

Idk, seems to me to be more logical to destroy the ability for a select few to rule over others by force than to leave that capability lying around and naïvely hoping that only your most ideal perfect heroes are the ones to pick it up.

And overall if you’re really stuck on the belief that most people are just inherently corrupt/greedy/inept/etc. (I disagree) it makes even MORE sense to not build tools of domination that anyone good at selling a narrative and gaining power can take ahold of.

Laughable to me that anarchists are the ones routinely painted as hopelessly idealistic when any honest look at history and centralized power makes the “if we can just get the right people in power they’ll fix everything!” look like the most out of touch fantasy.

The two met through tutoring. Blaire was failing history. Fred wanted to make some extra money.

Eventually some of the side talk turned into actual conversation, befriending each other.

Fred caught feelings first. Blaire was completely oblivious to this.

The two actually got together through a drunken confession. Fred picked up Blaire after she went to a bad party and was too intoxicated to drive.

He even carried her to the front door. Until she confessed. Then Fred dropped her in the grass out of shock.

Fred will make fun of his girlfriend for being “short” even though it’s only by a couple inches.

In reverse, Blaire will make fun of Fred for being less athletic than her.

Fred is teaching Blaire how to draw.

Blaire spoils Fred. A lot. Many of their dates are just shopping sprees.

Fred sucks at dancing. During homecoming, he was completely embarrassing. Blaire would roll her eyes and keep going anyway.

Would 100% fit that “He asked for no pickles!” meme.

Blaire has an entire crying fit whenever the dog dies in movies. No matter how many times Fred has to explain it’s just fiction, she’ll cry even harder.

Blaire’s favorite thing ever is My Little Pony. Any and all generations (Except the 5th one, ew). She keeps this a complete secret. No one knows except for Fred (who probably found out by opening one of her closets and seeing 300 toys)

She feels welcome to talk about My Little Pony, and even wake up early to watch reruns or play with some of the toys.

Fred doesn’t judge her for it. Finds it a bit weird, but loves her enough to go along with it.

Angst

Tanner McCroy is an abusive ex boyfriend of Blaire’s.

She was sextorted by him for a year or so. Blaire essentially did anything he wanted.

After Tanner got “bored” of her, they broke up and she was finally able to find someone else.

When Fred realized what happened, it made him angry. A type of angry that he’d never felt up until that day.

So angry that he got into his first school fight for it, punching Tanner square in the jaw.

The effects of Tanner never fully went away. Blaire developed PTSD from the events.

Fred wanted to do something, but beating up Tanner over and over again wasn’t going to fix the bottom line.

The only thing he could really do was be there to support her. No matter what.

Flamebomb (Flamethrower x Valeri)

Val is a night owl and Flame is an early bird (Due to his practices being so early in the morning). This causes the following to happen:

On Friday nights, Flame will tend to fall asleep doing anything extraneous/ comfy past 1am. This tends to happen during cuddling. Val finds that adorable.

Speaking of cuddling, sometimes Flame plain sleeps on top of his girlfriend. On accident. Not in a cute cuddly way, but taking up half the bed type of way. Val refuses to move, making productive things more difficult. For example her trying to type on her phone would produce gibberish.

They go on mini crime sprees as dates sometimes. The occasional fire starts.

Like Blairecrash, they sometimes also wake up early to watch Saturday Morning Cartoons and rather cereal in bed, albeit different ones.

Angst

Tanner was also an ex of Val. The situation didn’t get as far as Blaire’s, but Val was SA’d.

Flame feels similar about Tanner as Fred does.

When Flamethrower witnessed Valeri’s bulimia first hand, his heart dropped into his stomach.

He tried to stay calm when confronting her about it, staying completely passive and not blaming her for anything. After a couple minutes of her being out of view he completely shut down.

Flame wished she didn’t have to suffer like that. That he could just snap his fingers and make her healthy again. That she’d just be okay. But things didn’t work like that. Things were much more complicated.

Bonus - Double Date HCs

These mostly get planned by Fred and Flame since they’re closer.

Despite being somewhat the opposite of each other, Blaire and Val get along very well.

Their first double date was to a laser tag game.

Everyone got really competitive.

For extra competition, Fred and Flame were on one team, and Blaire and Val were on another.

Fred is actually really good at laser tag, causing Blaire to get targeted and shot multiple times. Because of that, Blaire “swore revenge” on him.

That essentially just means stealing the food off his plate later on.

^ Val actual ended up doing this to Flame. He got flustered and this was all he could think about for the rest of the day.

After, they went to go pick up something to eat.

It took a million years for them to figure something out since no one was craving anything but was also picky of where they wanted to eat.

They ended up choosing a fast food joint. (Taiga Country’s In & Out equivalent)

Blaire ate half of Fred’s fries.

Unrelated to this, I’d like to think they went on another date where Val blew something up. She would go:

“Whoopsies! Well, anyways….”

And then Blaire would stare at the fire like this

fear: What is your OC's greatest fear? What do they do when confronted with it? Are they open with their fear, or do they hide it away?

So first I thought of was failure, right? But it's more specific than that.

Her greatest fear is going back home. It's almost like something's changed within her but honestly something was just uncovered. She is never coming home because there is no place that is home for her any longer. Leaving showed that. Incremental success, small venues, worrying over bills, and the every present disdain of her parents has made her home town nothing more than a place she has a lease at.

She has no family waiting for her. Everyone there for her relies on her. Her friends are everything to her, but BOTB is giving an example as to why you don't go into business with family and friends. And she knows how quickly things go from everything to nothing.

She's not at all open with her fear, she barely recognizes it lurking below her confidence and determination. But it's not as if she would show it, she's been the unofficial leader since Seven left, and she can't show anyone any cracks or else they'll think she'll break. If they would even bring it up.

Hard to be scared of something she's not aware of is there. The moment she stops to think, the second she has enough room to breathe? Well maybe ambition turns into desperation.

guilt: What is your OC guilty about? How do they handle their guilt? Do they try to avoid guilt, or do they accept it?

She feels guilty that she didn't try harder.

Not about the Vote. There's nothing she could have done there. In the year, the years, following the Vote she thought: how could she have made them understand? She could have done something more, she needed them to understand that it didn't work unless Seven was in the band, in some way in any way he needed to be there. She doesn't work, she can't do this, without him in the band-

She couldn't do anything about the Vote, she realized that eventually.

Despite how awfully Seven treated her when they broke up, no matter the posts on social media, no matter the texts from ex-friends rubbing it in her face that they get to see what made her and Seven's relationship so special, no matter how empty her shitty small apartment was after he left, she still feels bad that she still didn't try harder to make amends, to reconnect.

She let him go and she didn't try to save what they could of their friendship, she didn't even try. There was such a history of friendship, that lasted for so much longer than the relationship did, and she feels guilty about not trying to save it. She mourned it and instead of trying to fix it, she wrote a goodbye to their relationship on their anniversary, she decided to write off love and relationships unconsciously, and she was so focused on how little she felt that when she came to the realization it was years later.

She's a fan of Soft Violence, she's glad he seemed to land on his feet, she's relieved he has people there for him professionally ... and personally, and that was enough to convince her that they're in a better place than where they were. If she felt this, maybe he would too. Maybe if they met again they could meet as friends.

But she didn't try at all and now they're this. She's guilty that she didn't try harder.

skin: How comfortable is your OC in their skin? Do they grapple with anything that lives inside them—a beast, a curse, a failure, a monster? How do they face the smallest, weakest, most horrible version of themself? Are they able to acknowledge it at all?

She's pretty comfortable in her skin! But she's happier now that she's changed. She looks very different than she did in high school and she started changing her look at least over a year since the breakup. A little less soft, a little more sharp, a little bit harder to swallow.

She's doing the show's work for them when she says she looks more thorn than rose now.

At least that's what she wants to portray. It's her first line of defense.

She is maybe a little scared of people still seeing her as broken, as weak, as wilting. And though she isn't grappling with anything, she's shored up her cracks with will and confidence, but as time wears on doubt is starting to drip through as to how far that confidence can actually take her. But that's for later, if she acknowledges it which she most likely won't. She won't invite something in that will risk their chance her chance at this. She can't.

Anyways, favorite pieces of Star Wars media?

I mean, obviously there's the Original Trilogy. They're a classic. As for the Prequels... I really love playing in the pre-empire sandbox, but in terms of actually enjoying this trilogy, it is more for how it laid the groundwork for greater stories than the actual plot (and well, of course the memes). And the Sequel Trilogy? I didn't love it, but I also didn't hate it? Like, they definitely tried to flesh out the situation to be more complex and nuanced, but kinda dropped the ball on it. I think it had the potential for greatness, but they just kept falling short on the delivery.

One of my early favorites was the "Jedi Quest" book series by Jude Watson, which takes place between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. It was the first piece of media I was exposed to that got into what life as a Jedi (at least pre-empire) was like. And also, it introduced the character Darra Thel-Tanis, who was one of the first female Jedi characters I had come across (I don't count anyone who showed up in the prequel movies because literally none of them had speaking roles). Granted, back when I first read the books a lot of it went over my head as I was about 7-8 years old, but I hold a nostalgic fondness for the series even though it's no longer considered canon.

Another one I really enjoyed was the "Young Jedi Knights" series, which follows Han and Leia's children Jaina and Jacen as they train in the Force and deal with the threats of the remnants of the Sith and the Empire. It's been a while since I've gone over them, but I remember the series just being filled with so much world-building stuff, as well as a good depiction of what a post-empire galaxy would look like.

The "Crimson Empire" and "Dark Empire" comics were also pretty memorable. They dabbled in the palpatine clones (and honestly did a much better job of it than Disney) and kind of serve as a prequel to the "Young Jedi Knights". But "Crimson Empire" specifically stands out to me because it was the first Star Wars content I came across where the main character was "one of the bad guys". Just... having that alternate point of view was eye-opening.

I'm not really a video game person (my gaming consists of Lego Star Wars wii and building castles in creative Minecraft), but I do love the storylines in Fallen Order, Battlefront: Inferno Squad/Resurrection, and KOTOR and it's expansions.

Are we counting music? Because in that case pretty much everything both from the OSTs and the epic orchestrations (I have multiple playlists dedicated solely to Star Wars music).

Moving on to the TV shows

I haven't actually watched Andor yet (i know, I'm a disgrace), but I have high hopes based on what I've heard.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Mandalorian. I mean, it's cool, Baby Yoda's cute and the little bits of world-building are nice; plus actually showing how even though the Rebellion won at Endor and toppled the Empire, it still exists (that just killing Palpatine isn't enough to "fix" the galaxy, and not everyone is going to just accept another regime change). And I just love Mandalorians. They're freakin awesome, so having an entire show dedicated to them was cool.

But my main problem with the show was how it practically ignored so much of what Star Wars had already done with Mandalorians. Earlier canon stuff (such as The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels) already gave us some pretty solid background and lore to Mandalorian culture and history, and it feels like they kinda just brushed it off in the show (I mean, come on. They literally went all three seasons without even name-dropping Satine) (also, Mandalorians have their own language, multiple dialects of it even, yet we pretty much only heard them speak Galactic Standard. I am saltier than the Dead Sea about this). I also just, expected it to be a little more dark and angsty than what we got (lol went on a bit of a tangent there).

Anyways, next up is Star Wars Rebels. While it is a little more juvenile in execution (i mean, it is a kids show), I think it did a good job in setting up the foundations of the Rebellion, and how small acts can lead to great change. Also just, contextualizing the state of the galaxy under the Empire's thumb and incorporating a lot of the rejected concepts from the Original Trilogy.

And finally, my all-time favorite, The Clone Wars. I practically grew up watching this show. There is just so much to it. While yes, most of it follows Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka, we also get entire episodes dedicated to other characters on all sides of the conflict, and the show does a lot to set up later events in Revenge of the Sith and beyond. My favorite thing about the show was the character development. We get to see Anakin in the context of his relationships with others as well as the progression of his downfall. We get to see the clones actually get personalities and become more than the faceless armored bodies of the movies. We get to see the progression of the characters being fired up to fight to steadily getting worn down by all the loss and destruction of war. And we get to witness some of the best character development ever in Ahsoka. There is so much this show gave the fandom that I can't really verbalize it all.

So yeah, these are all my favorite/most memorable pieces of Star War media as well as my thoughts on them.

I have complex trauma from my abuser using stalkerware to access my accounts and it's so bad that I can't remember any of my passwords 90% of the time. Once I realized he had access, I repeatedly started changing my passwords, as if that would fix anything, but I didn't know any better. I didn't know that software could monitor everything, including keystrokes and email notifications of changed passwords and what I think was full screen mirroring on my phone—or at least access to my search history, messages and calls, my camera.

When I say my hacked TikTok after I left him was full of posts with instructions on how to invade your partner's privacy. joe Goldberg memes about stalking and this dude can't separate fiction from reality and we all know Joe Goldberg is a sick fuck. Even worse in the books. And I was asking my friends, like is your fyp like this? Because I hadn't been active on the account for 6 months. And they're like hell no, what the fuck?

And I've had panic attacks when it comes to password related stuff since. Dumb because it doesn't matter, but sometimes I feel like I can't breathe.

The Morshu Curse.

Making horny posts online is always something you should be careful about, because legend has it there is a certain demon who likes to take those as an invitation to bring that person’s sickest desires to life and twist them. And once he has you, he will take you to a place unlike any other, a place where reality changes on a regular basis, where even the slightest joke about an old meme can cause you to be stuck in said meme or even become a living version of that meme. A place where there is only one way and that way is forwards, forwards to the point of no return, a place known as the Meme Zone and in the meme zone, you can expect to become a meme yourself, trapped in your own hell.

Meet Jacob Thompson aka JacobToonster, a Youtube user whose career peaked in the late 2010s with his profane song parodies, YTPs and bad karaoke videos but after 2019 his videos got less and less views after he started selling out and getting a Patreon account. Now, he was a fat fetish tuber who posted videos that were along the lines of ‘Every Single WG Episode Of A Cartoon’ ‘Top 15 Hottest Fat Male Characters’ ‘Why Fat Is Beautiful’, and ‘If I Wrote Digital Fortress’.

His viewing history had content like ‘YTP: How The Grinch and I.M Mean Ruined Christmas’ ‘Chester A Bum Meets Otakuwoman’ ‘YTP: No One Explicitly Bangs People Like Gaston’ ‘YTP: Robotnik’s Sex Cult’ all of which were from 2011, and he had a few saved ones too. He was watching a Morshu YTP and he decided to supposedly joke about wanting to be him. ‘Oh how I wish I was him.’

‘So you wish to become a meme, do you? Well I shall grant your wish.’ ‘I did not make a wish.’ ‘Oh but I know you did, you wish to be a meme and I will make you into one regardless.’ The voice mocked and laughed maniacally as he began to feel really strange.

His skin slowly began to age and mature, giving him the skin of an older man as his body gradually bulked up and gained weight, his clothing slowly contorting and morphing into an identical copy of Morshu’s outfit. ‘I am turning into Morshu?’ ‘Why yes, my dear boy. You wished for this to happen and now you are going to be a meme legend.’ ‘I take back my wish then.’ ‘Too late, you asked for it, now enjoy it.’

He groaned as his whole body fattened up and a hat like Morshu’s materialized on his hand, he watched as his hair fell out except for some at the back as the remaining bits turned a darker shade of brown, his nose enlarged as a thick curved mustache blossomed outward over his lips and his eyebrows thickened, his voice had changed significantly to sound like the character.

‘Hey, this does not seem exactly fair!’ ‘I cannot take back a wish once it has been granted, you will be stuck as him forever now.’ ‘Forever? But what about my friends and family?’ ‘You can still see them but they will not recognize you any more.’ He cried as he begged the ‘demon’ that had granted his wish to take it back, but the demon laughed. ‘This is not exactly fair and this is cruel.’ ‘Cruel? This is what you asked for, and I ain’t fixing or turning you back, not even an AI like ChatGPT can do that.’

Jacob came to realize it was his own mistake and he apologized but his apology was too late, as he was pulled through the computer into the screen, where an invisible cursor pulled him into position and clicked play, making him make a series of YTP soundclips and fall off and also make funny fart and burping noises and distort his own voice. ‘Nooo, what are you doing?’ ‘Making a YTP video of you of course. I do this for all my victims. For every bad horny post they make, I trap them in their own personal online hell.’

He let out a loud scream as the invisible cursor clicked on the play button over and over, making him do the same lines over and over. ‘I want to get out of here.’ ‘Sorry pal, but I cannot do that. Your Youtube viewing habits are to blame for this, still stuck in the glory days of the late 2000s and 2010s, are you? Refusing to move on from the past, rehashing old memes to get views? Your fat fetish vids not getting enough attention? Too bad for you.’

The invisible cursor moved its over to him and made him hit himself a large number of times before an assortment of pop culture clips popped up in front of him, he tried to break out but he found himself trapped inside a computer screen, and the cursor clicked on him and made him shrink in width, and then edited his dialogue to include the bleeps used to cover up swears.

Just then two characters who were from Vyond barged into where he was…’Jacob Toonster, how dare you transform yourself into a character from a Zelda CDI game and make a reference to an overused meme from a Youtube Poop and then try to argue with a demon!’ ‘But he transformed me.’ ‘But it was your foolish horny post that got you into this mess to begin with. Did you not know making horny posts means the demon can prey on you more easily?’

‘It is not my fault’ ‘Oh but it is, and for forcing outdated memes and your fat fetish content to be on the algorithm, you are grounded until Elon Musk bans porn from Twitter permanently. And while you are grounded, you will eat nothing but lumpy potatoes for every meal and can only look at characters who are not overweight.’ ‘Waaaaaaaaaa!’

He cried once more as the demon laughed, the demon laughed as he clicked on the video and smirked…’These suffering victim videos always make me laugh because of what a big deal they make out of being cursed. Yet their foolish horny comments are what got them there in the first place.’

And thus another victim has been permanently uploaded into the dimension where content of the online kind takes on a weird flavor, where people can become other people for no reason, where memes come to life and have a twisted life of their own, a dimension where the internet is taken to extreme supernatural levels.

Jacob really should have learned that making horny comments and viewing YTP videos about old outdated memes have consequences and those consequences are ones that he now has to deal with for himself because he has now gotten himself a permanent residence in…The Meme Zone.

Jason Slaughter owns the channel 'Not Just Bikes', which gained popularity because it raised awareness about bad infrastructure and urban planning in North America, which was often compared to the better infrastructure in the Netherlands.

He's also an immature douchecanoe in so many of the comments he's made on youtube/reddit. In the above tweet, he's also seriously oversimplifying how easy it is to move. He's privileged af- he makes good money, he's a cishet white dude, he's employable, he has a wife who is literally a dutch citizen so he already has an easier time getting in, etc etc etc. In a lot of his videos, he also deeply mocks people who are super ignorant about car dependence, comparing em to cavemen and making funny voices to impersonate them. It's a lot and it's super mean spirited. His early videos were fun to watch, but he's totally lost his mcfcking mind, one of his newer videos actually has the spongebob meme as a thumbnail (seriously) and I've just seen him do way too much shitty stuff at this point.

Contrary to his tweet claims, his channel also never broadcasted itself as being 'only/mainly for people who can move'. From the start, his channel was seen as a 'things in the Netherlands are like this, and this is why I like it in the Netherlands better'. He always compared infrastructure between North America and the Netherlands, never urged people to move, and never said that the content is primarily for people who move. I definitely never saw him 'send people to strong towns etc' in his videos. He just referenced em.

In fact, I remember someone actually posting on a strong towns video asking if they could work with other people besides NJB, and Jason literally replied 'lol'. I literally just went digging for it because I had to add it lmfao, it's here, see for yourself!

So what is this whole thing about 'sending people to ST'? He laughs when people ask about hearing from other creators.

So the obvious privilege and lack of transparency is why Jason's first tweet was seen as a slap in the face. He basically appealed to a lot of people who are most affected by car dependence in North America- the people who can't (or can barely) afford their cars, and who dislike the infrastructure in NA because it's inaccessible to them and people with disabilities, etc, then he turned around and pulled the rug out saying, 'actually, this is not about/for you'. Then he tells this same demographic to 'give up on North America' ie move. His second tweet doesn't check out given the history of his videos. His third tweet is just a bad case of doomerism like, 'well, it won't be fixed within YOUR lifetime, why even start enacting any change at all'.

But five generations from now, they'll be asking 'why the f didn't they start way back THEN?'
