Hello shippers,

I thought I'd make a list of the AUs I could find on AO3 for those looking for this genre... well, making a list has been easy. 'Tis a niche in a niche 🤣

Alternate Universe (often abbreviated as "AU") is a descriptor used to characterize fanworks which change one or more elements of the source work's canon. Broadly, an AU may transplant a given source work's characters to a radically different setting, shift the genre in which their adventures occur, and/or alter one or more of their professions, goals, or backstories. I'm reccing stories set in different worlds, with different background or jobs. No alternative academies, pre-canon, Commission period, or Canon Divergence, or there would be the majority of the category 🤭

Imagine if instead of whatever s4 was we got Five being the reason for the apocalypse. Everything he worked for years to protect was his fault in the end. Or maybe it's nine pm on a school night and I have a sinus infection.

Of course!

Nancy and Jerome deserve their own AU story where they meet as two agents who are so similar they often can't stand each other, but at the same time have to work together as partners in the CIA and always protect each other.

-- One night in December, they were returning from their boss's birthday party. Nancy was in a very good mood, perhaps had more to drink that night than she had planned. Jerome walked beside her and listened to her silly jokes and smiled whenever she started laughing at them.

She was a little careless and slipped on the ice, luckily he caught her at the last moment, yet he fell himself and Nancy ended up in his arms. Again she was amused until their gazes met in a long stare.

"Hey!"

"Hey..."

He expected another of their silly jokes, but she surprised him with a kiss. She'd wanted to do that for a long time...

Fivela Secret Santa

Now all of the submissions have been posted and we've all had some time to digest them, I did a little bit of analysis on our lovely @fivela-secret-santa24 submissions

We had 13 fics as part of the submissions, with the rest being either video edits or art work. So many talented people who took part! We also had a bilingual fic with Fancy Nancy being available in both English and Spanish - incredible work from both the writer and the person who helped them translate.

So what was the breakdown?

Word counts

Overall (and there are still some WIPs so this is going to climb) there was a colossal total of 93385 words across all the fics.

There is one very heavy lifter in there, with Loyalty making up over 30k of those words... and still going!

For one shots, the longest work was Ties That Bind at 8460

The average word count for multichapter works was 11k, with one shots coming in at around 4k.

Ratings

There was a spread across all the ratings, but with a definite trend towards the spicier end of the spectrum. Explicit - 5/13 Mature - 4/13 Teen and general rated fics tied at 2 a piece.

Settings

The most popular setting was in a normal universe/timeline (6/13), but we did have some people getting creative including:

Characters

A lovely little surprise was how many fics included Nancy and Jerome as part of their plot. Mostof these were set in the 'normal' world playing around the edges of canon except for Strawbella which is a collection of subway timeline oneshots. The Nancy/Jerome fics are all M/E rated...

Golden Cage (G) is a short fic and then a beautiful video edit to go with it!

It was such a joy being involved in this as a writer, but also as a giftee and trying to figure out which geniuses were behind each of the works. There are polls still running to make your best guesses, but some of them still have me scratching my head!

He didn’t want to think about it, didn’t want to go back to that moment, but his mind was stuck on what had happened. He kept seeing her face, and he kept hearing her words echo in his head.

It was the first time he had told her he’d fallen in love with her. And he would’ve sworn she felt the same way—he saw it in her eyes, saw it in her smile, and felt it every time she was only his. But she had just smiled slightly, and something in her expression changed. “Do you remember when I told you that you’d suffer for what you did?” That surprised him. “What?” “Back then, in that barn. I told you it wouldn’t be quick…” She smiled again, but there was something dark in her expression, and she looked almost amused. “It took me a while, but I finally won…” Five looked taken aback—he knew exactly what she was talking about, but why now? A deeply uncomfortable feeling settled over him. He couldn’t even respond. “What’s wrong? Did I catch you off guard?” she asked sweetly. “Lila… this really isn’t funny…” he swallowed hard. “No, it’s not… because it’s not a joke! I couldn’t defeat you with strength, so I beat you through your feelings.” She stepped even closer. “I want you to know that nothing that happened between us meant anything to me. You mean nothing to me!” she said coldly.

He could still hear her words in his head. And they echoed even louder when he saw her just a few meters away, laughing at the bar with a drink in her hand. He should hate her. He wanted to hate her. But even with a broken heart, he couldn’t stop loving her.

It's a new day in Canada, and a new day in the life of Five Hargreeves.

Five woke up to a loud blast of sound that was definitely not his alarm clock—or any default ringtone he’d ever set.

Groaning, he patted around for his phone, finding it in the pocket of his jeans folded on the chair beside the bed. He didn’t need to check the caller ID. He would bet anything Lila had meddled with his ringtone when he wasn’t looking. Likely during a nap or one of the stops they’d made on the drive yesterday. 

“Wakey, wakey, sunshine~~!” came her unmistakable sing-song voice. 

He ended the call, clapping the phone shut, and collapsed back into his pillow with a groan. His reprieve was short-lived. Just as he pulled his blanket up, the phone started again, the same anthem blaring through the room.

Are you still taking requests?

At the moment, I am unfortunately not taking any requests. I'm currently trying to catch up on a couple of stories I've had on the back burner, including finishing up the latest chapter of my Fivela AU, The Hoffa Job, which is almost ready to be posted, and then the next chapter of Much Longer... I will probably update that one before it takes another little break as I switch gears slightly and try to work on Ain't It A Kick In The Head, my Ghoulcy fic. That one's been my most neglected fic as of late because I've been so devoted to my Fivela fics after S4. I'm gonna take some time to get back into Ghoulcy mode by re-watching Fallout and playing some New Vegas, then I'll be ready to get back on that horse! Once things are all updated, I'll put out the Batsignal for requests!
