She stared blankly at the young man that stood distressed on her porch. “Five…I….Hurry up, get inside.” Her hand darted out to grab the sleeve of his tailored blazer, and she quickly dragged him through the threshold. He awkwardly stood in the foyer of their house, with his hands shoved in the pockets of his shorts. “(Y/n) this is a nightmare. I’m an old man trapped in this body. Ever had growing pains and indigestion at the same time?” He glowered up at her. A quiet snicker escaped from her lips. “You think this is funny? Huh?”
The snicker sparked a roar of laughter that erupted deep from her belly, and Five could do nothing but stare blankly at her. He considered the last time he saw her looking genuinely this amused by something was the day of their wedding after they had tossed his Commission tracking device.
“I mean, no. It’s not funny. It’s just…ridiculous. I waited all this time. Counted all these days. And you show up here….like….” she gestures vaguely. “It’s absolutely absurd, and honestly, kind of unfair. Here is was, expecting my 100% normal, thirty year old husband to poof into my house today. And I get the awkward teenager slash old man version of you. This is too much.” She dramatically wiped tears from her eyes.
“Okay, are you done now?” Five stated frankly, with no hint of irritation. He opened his arms to her and she met his embrace, throwing her arms over his shoulders.
“It’s really hard to hug you like this. You lost a few inches in the fray, buddy.” She pressed a kiss onto the top of his head. He pulled away from her to protest, but she just pulled him back in tightly.
“Come on my grumpy little man. Let’s get you over to the Academy and see if your family can possibly help with this. They’re used to things outside of the ordinary.
The couple walked down the street, awkwardly meeting the glances of everyone around them. The uniform jacket was telling, and it was apparent that everyone was shocked to see the prodigal son of the Umbrella Academy, alive and in the flesh, looking exactly how he did nearly fifteen years ago. A man pushing a two seat baby stroller gave them a wide berth on the sidewalk, and gave (Y/n) a double take.
“(Y/n) (Y/L/M/N)?” He proclaimed, causing Y/n to screech to a halt. She turned to face the man, quickly glancing down at the stoller.
“Um, yes? It’s actually (Y/n) Hargreeves now, but yes, that’s me.” Realization dawned on her, and hit her in the face like a runaway freight train. “Uh, how are you, (ex F/n)?”
“I’m great! So great, it’s really fantastic to see you! I’m just on the way to surprise the wife at work, it’s her first week back after her maternity leave, and I know she’s missing the kiddos.” (Y/n) glanced down at the pair of cooing babies in the stoller. “And who’s this strapping young gentleman? I didn’t know you had a little brother.”
Five took an immediate offensive stance. “I’m Five Hargreeves, and I’m her HUSBAND.”
“Oh, God I’m sorry. I guess you just looked a little different the last time I saw you….At our, uh, or rather, your, uh. Wedding.” The young man stammered, and (Y/n) watched Five grow increasingly more irritated.
“Yep, Five is a time traveler extraordinaire. Just had a little mishap with his calculations. He’s not normally a teenager, or anything. Like, it’s not like that at all, I mean…God that sounds so weird. Sorry.” She was beginning to grow flustered, and no longer felt the need to explain herself. “It was nice seeing you, we’ve got to be going now.” Her arm linked around Five’s, as she began dragging him away.
“Well you couldn’t have possibly made that any more awkward,” Five fretted at her. “Bad enough you dumped him at the alter and now you had to explain how your husband, who I don’t know if I mentioned it already, but you DUMPED HIM FOR, is stuck in a teenage body.”
She whipped around him in front of him, staring him down. “Look, you don’t get to be angry at me for your mistake. It’s not my fault that you aren’t even old enough to DRIVE now.” “Well you could have driven if you had ever taken the time to learn how to drive a stick shift.” Five puffed up his chest to look tougher, but it was futile in his current form.
“You’re the one who was never around long enough to teach me how to do it.” He flinched, and she instantly felt a wave of guilt wash over her. “Five, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it. We’re both just…tense right now. The world is ending, you’re hormonal and also crabby because you probably won’t get to take advantage of the senior citizen discount at Griddy’s today.”
He couldn’t help but laugh at her. The moment he fell through the portal, and realizing his body was now in shambles due to his miscalculations, all he could think was how she would react. Would she faint? Would she promptly turn him away? Instead, she surpassed all of his expectations and was making jokes at his expense. He paused for a moment and grabbed her hand, rubbing his thumb across her knuckles. “You know, now more than ever, I’m so glad I married you. I can’t imagine anyone else being able to handle this curveball.”
“What can I say, Mr. Hargreeves. You had me on the hook for a long time. A little hiccup like this isn’t going to scare me off.” He smiled, lacing his fingers with hers as they continued down the street, the Umbrella Academy looming just a few blocks ahead.
The pair quietly entered the front door, only to be bombarded by all of the siblings at once. Five sulked behind his wife, as each of his family members warmly embraced her. Klaus picked her up and spun her around, quickly locking eyes with his brother. “Oh Jesus Christ, what do we have here?” Klaus murmured, gently placing (Y/n) down on the ground. “If it isn’t our dear little brother, alive and in the flesh…And perhaps a few inches shorter than last time we saw you, hm?”
Allison spoke next without giving Five a chance to respond, a look of shock on her face. “So I’m guessing something wasn’t quite right with your math, was it?”
Five pulled on the sleeves of his blazer. “You can say that again. I fucked up royally. That’s the least of our concerns now though. We only have a few days to stop the Apocalypse from happening, and I still have no idea how we’re going to do it.”
Days had passed, and the family was no closer to determining the catalyst of the Apocalypse than they were when Five and (Y/n) had returned to the Academy. They sat around the kitchen table on the day that Five had so loudly proclaimed would be the end of the world, all eyes sunken in from lack of sleep. Luther dragged his hands down his face, as he looked over at Five sulking over his late night cup of coffee. “Maybe it’s just inevitable. We should have had at least some clue by now.”
Allison scanned over the newspapers scattered along the table. “I mean, there’s nothing in the news that indicates anything out of the ordinary. Nothing political, no threats of nuclear warfare, literally nothing.”
“Or maybe it’s just not going to happen at all? I mean, today is the day isn’t it? Everything has been completely normal.” (Y/n) yawned, her forehead meeting the wooden table
“Maybe it’s you, little brother,” Klaus said, pausing to light the joint pressed between his lips. “I mean, think about it. You’re the only one who experienced the end of the world. Did you ever think, maybe it has something to do with you?” Vanya nodded her head in agreement.
“Klaus might actually have a point. Have you done anything you know of to alter the timeline at all?”
“Yeah, you know like, in time travel movies where someone accidentally kills a bug and it causes the entire future to change? Killed any bugs lately, Five? Or like, Presidents, or whatever it was you had to do with the Commission?” Klaus coughed.
Five thought for a moment, taking a sip of his coffee. “Not really, before I left the Commission, I only did one thing….” (Y/n) jerked her head up from the table, eyes widening. The family looked at him expectantly, then over to her. “You know, the whole crashing her wedding day thing. The head of the Commission, the Handler warned me she would kill us, but I didn’t really think much about it.” The group collectively groaned. Diego stabbed a blade into the table. “Well, these are the kinds of things you might want to tell us, Five. Your former boss literally threatening to murder you seems like a pretty good reason to be on high alert.”
A loud rap at the front door of the Academy put everyone on high alert. They all rose from their spots, quietly making their way towards the door. “Hey, maybe it’s the Apocalypse knocking. We can just ignore it, maybe they’ll think we aren’t home.” Klaus whispered, throwing the remains of his spent joint into a potted plant. Diego peeked out a window near the door. “It’s some blonde woman in a dress. Sound familiar?” He whispered, and Five immediately straightened his tie. “Yep, I’ll take this.” He moved towards the door to unlock it, coming face to face with the Handler.
“Good evening, Five…Assorted Hargreeves.” She flourished her hand, shoving past Five into the living room, depositing a large briefcase by the door. “And Mrs. Hargreeves, a pleasure to see you once again.” (Y/n) felt her heart tighten in her chest, recalling the last ill fated encounter with the woman, and the impossible choice she posed for the pair.
“Wish I could say the same,” (Y/n) scoffed. “Care to tell us why you’re here? You’re getting a bit too familiar with these unexpected housecalls.” The family gathered around her in a protective stance, and she felt the tightness in her chest dissipate.
“Well, I did advise you that I’d be back at a date of MY choosing to dispose of the pair of you, didn’t I?” The Handler towered over (Y/n) in her heels, frowning down at her.
Five shook his head. “That wasn’t part of the deal. I came back to the Commission, I did what you asked, and you sent me to that God-forsaken wasteland.”
She advanced towards Five. “Ah, yes, that much is true. But what I didn’t anticipate was you defying the odds. Do you know what the odds were that you’d be able to time travel back to any point in time to your wife?” She emphasized, venom dripping in her voice. “One in thirty million. Now, wouldn’t you say, the odds of that are simply astronomical?” Five looked over at (Y/n) and his family.
She paused, looking back at the family, then pointed her icy gaze to (Y/n). “You two couldn’t just leave well enough alone, could you?” The Handler smirked at the distressed boy, as she positioned herself in between him and his wife. “Did you really think I could allow you to take everything from me?”
“I didn’t do anything to you. I did my job, I did my time. I just want to live the rest of my life with my wife.” He glowered at her, as she chuckled.
“Five, tell me, why do you think I had such a vested interest in you and your boring little wife here, in your holy union, hm?” She gestured behind her. He shrugged. “I haven’t the inkiest, enough with the damn riddles, why don’t you fill us all in on why you’re so hell bent on killing us?”
The Handler nonchalantly looked at the gun in her hand, then turned towards (Y/n), cocking it in her direction. “It’s really nothing personal, dear. It’s about your baby. Specifically, the baby that you’re set to have in…oh…” She thought a beat, “four years, give or take. If I eliminate you now, the Apocalypse can resume right on schedule.” The family exhaled a collective gasp.
Klaus laughed, “Well, congratulations to my dear brother and his wife on their non-existent baby. But I have to ask, when did you get in the business of murdering babies?”
“Let me break it down for you. If Five had followed orders, he never would have married (Y/n). (Y/n) would have settled down with….that boring guy, what’s his name? Five would have continued working for the Commission, and everything would have been hunky dory. But the moment he defied his orders, the entire timeline changed. He and (Y/n) had their happily ever after, and eventually, (Y/n) will give birth to a beautiful, bouncing baby girl. Not just a girl though, the most powerful time traveler in history, in any timeline. With the inherited skills of her father, and with the complex ability of their mother to become a big flashing beacon in the space-time continuum, which might I add, didn’t seem like much until we determined Five could find her in ANY timeline under any circumstance, you have a recipe for someone powerful enough to overthrow the entire Commission, namely me. Because this child was born, the entire scenario for the Apocalypse was avoided completely, no matter what variables we changed, infinitely into the future. It just never happens. The only variable that changed was me. My entire life’s work, bypassed, like a bump in the road. The Apocalypse that I deemed absolutely necessary, gone, thanks to a single choice.”
Allison stared at the Handler incredulously. “So what you’re really saying, is you’re too selfish and drunk off power to give it up. Someone more suited to the job, who doesn’t even exist yet, is so much of a threat to you, that you’ll eliminate anyone involved?”
“Well, I was only going to eliminate (Y/n), I don’t particularly enjoy getting my hands messy. There would have been no greater delight than seeing Five suffer for his indiscretions; however, since the whole family is here, I might as well make a day of it.”
Chaos erupted in the expanse of the Umbrella Academy’s living room. (Y/n) wasn’t sure who cast the first stone, but a flurry of bullets began raining down on the Hargreeves family. Diego curved as many of the bullets as he could, as he ushered her towards the hallway. She craned her neck to peer over his shoulder, desperately trying to find Five in the fray, as she was shoved into a bedroom in the hallway, a gun being thrust into her hands by her brother-in-law. In defeat, she pressed herself against the wooden door, trying to hear anything at all, only to be met with the sounds of glass and furniture breaking, guns being fired, indiscernible shouts of her family fighting for their lives.
Gathering her resolve, she crept from the room, unable to stand not knowing what was occurring just beyond the walls. Gun outstretched in front of her, she quietly made her way down the hall, just as all of the fighting abruptly stopped.
“Where the hell did she go?” Vanya hissed, as the family peered around, puzzled. “We had her pinned down?”
Luther cautiously evaluated the rest of the family. “I don’t like this one bit. She wouldn’t just zap out of her, would she?” Allison looked towards the front door, noting the telltale briefcase that sat by the door. “She’s still here somewhere, she couldn’t get out without the briefcase.”
(Y/n) peeked around the corner glancing around at the scene before her. All of the lightbulbs in the room had been mostly shattered and the room was awash with the little light that shone in through the innumerable windows. In the dim light, chairs and tables could be seen upturned and scattered around the room.
“Five?” She called out weakly, in a desperate bid to get his attention. His gaze quickly turned towards her, and a look of terror overtook his features. A loud pop resounded through the space, and a searing pain shot through the center of her chest. Slowly, (Y/n) peered down, noting the slow stream of dark red that stained the front her shirt. Everything started to go black, as Five rushed towards her.
“What did you do? WHAT DID YOU DO?” He screamed at the Handler who stood smugly behind where (Y/n) had collapsed on the floor. Five removed his blazer and pressed the fabric to her steadily bleeding chest.
“Restoring order, that’s what, Five. Her being alive was a conflict of interest I suppose you could say. I think there’s going to be a little change of plans though, seeing the anguish on your face, I think that’s the best punishment I could ask for.” She glided past the family towards the briefcase, and no one moved.
“(Y/n) please stay with me, stay awake, you’re going to be fine.” Tears welled up in the corners of his eyes, as he desperately fumbled with the compress on her chest. Her breath began to slow, as she reached up and pressed a hand to Five’s cheek. Klaus crouched down beside the pair, and placed his hand over Five’s.
“Five, I can feel her leaving. She isn’t going to make it.” Klaus whispered, remorseful. Five stood beside her, the space all around him glowing blue.
“I didn’t come all this way through time just to lose her.” He tightly shut his eyes, and the room began moving slowly in reverse, the Handler moving slowly backwards towards the clandestine hallway. (Y/n)’s crumpled form rose from the spot on the ground, the dark blood receding back into her body, as Five’s nose began bleeding profusely from his efforts. He felt himself weaken, as the scene resumed before him.
“Where the hell did she go?” Vanya hissed, looking towards Five who stood in his new spot near the hallway. “We had her pinned down?”
“She’s in the hallway,” he replied weakly. “She’s going to kill (Y/n). I just….reversed time by just a few minutes. We have to make sure she doesn’t kill her this time.” A moment later, (Y/n) peered around the corner. Five rushed forward with the last bit of strength he had left, pulling her into the living room and shoving her aside as he collapsed on top of her. The Handler revealed herself, looking thoroughly confused. The gun fell to her side. “Well, this is certainly odd. Did our boy just manipulate time here? So much power, so much wasted on a perfectly normal girl.”
Klaus strode forward, fists illuminated. “She’s not perfectly normal, she loves Five and that’s a feat all on its own. The kid’s hard to love, no doubt about that, but she does, and that’s worth saving.” In a flash, a barrage of tentacles burst forth from his chest, and the ghostly figure of Ben could be seen just beyond Klaus’s form. The Horror reached forth, grabbing onto the Handler’s limbs, gruesomely tearing her apart bit by bit. The family looked on in shock at the grisly scene, until there was nothing left of the Handler but a puddle of blood and gore, spewed on the floor and walls.
And just like that, the Handler was gone, ripped apart by otherworldly forces that seeped from Klaus’s body. The family stood, stark-still, covered in entrails, before erupting in fits of laughter. Luther swept Allison up in his arms, her shrieking delightedly. “I can’t believe that’s it. That it was just that easy. Klaus, I think dad might have been wrong about your powers being totally useless.”
Klaus’s hands were still shaking, as he peered down at them in disbelief. “That….bitch. I can’t believe she would have just killed (Y/n) to intentionally cause the Apocalypse. And (Y/n)…” he shot a glance over at her. “I can’t believe you were the key it all along.”
She hadn’t moved. The ringing in her ears had barely subsided, when she pressed her hands into Five’s chest to meet him face to face. His expression was barely readable, save for the telltale upturn of the corners of his mouth. The words came out so soft, the family could barely make it out. “Our baby? The Handler couldn’t handle the idea of being replaced…That’s why. That’s why they warned me we couldn’t be together. Why they tortured me, making me see you be with that asshole over and over again. If we were together, the Apocalypse would never even happen. I really ruined her timeline, didn’t I?” He chuckled, rolling over onto the bloody floor, wiping his nose of his own blood.
Diego walked across the room towards the phone, wiping his knives on his already bloodied pants. Vanya looked at him incredulously. “Diego what on earth are you doing? Is now really time to make a phone call?”
He picked up the phone and dialed quickly. “It is. I’m calling (Y/f/n). Knowing how close we were to the whole world ending, I’m not taking anymore chances.” (Y/n) turned to him, shocked. “You know, she’s been hung up on you for years, Diego. I think everyone deserves a chance at a happy ending, now.” Five stood and stretched his hand down to hers and pulled her up. He carefully snaked his arm around her waist, pressing a chaste kiss on her bare and bloodied shoulder. “Even us, Five.”
He smiled, peering up at her through his dark hair. “Especially us, Mrs. Hargreeves. Especially us.”
Luther lurched over to the liquor cabinet, and sighed. “You know, I know it’s usually Klaus that suggests we start drinking, but I propose we go ahead and pop one of these nice bottles and celebrate tonight.” And they did. Vanya pulled out her violin, creating lively, happy music for the group as they danced and laughed around the living room. Allison stole a not so secret kiss from Luther, and the family loudly teased them, secretly grateful that they were no longer hiding their affections after so many years. Klaus was able to manifest Ben once more, who although he couldn’t drink, still engaged in the party just as much as any living person could. Diego had snuck out quietly sometime after his phone call, and (Y/n) hoped with all hope that he was finally going to apologize for being a such a jerk to her closest friend.
Five had pulled her into what she could only describe as an “awkward middle school style slow dance”, with her arms clasped loosely around his shoulders as they swayed side to side. “You know”, Five started, “my father taught all of us how to ballroom dance as kids.”
(Y/n) laughed, pulling him in a bit closer. “Is there anything you can’t do, Five? You’re remarkable.”
“Well obviously I’m not great at time travel, but I think those days might be behind me. At least, after I figure out how to get my normal body back.” He frowned. “(Y/n), have you considered what we’re going to do if I’m stuck like this? Permanently?”
She considered him for a moment. “Truthfully, no. I hadn’t really considered that to be a possibility. I mean, it would be kind of nice, you’d be able to take care of me when I get old and senile.” He pushed his foot forward and tripped her, easily causing her to lose her balance in her tipsy state . “HEY! Come on, Five, you know I’m kidding. I think…..I think we’ll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it, okay? I love you. I love you no matter what. Even if we can’t really….do the thing normal married people do. It’ll be okay.” She yawned, slowing her movements.
“I admire your persistent optimism. But my wife appears to be growing weary. Want to go relax in the library while I go over some of my old notes?” She nodded, craning down to place her head on his shoulder. “Alright, let’s go.” He gently pulled her arm across the back of his shoulders, and they made their way towards the stairs, calling out their goodnights to the family as they went.
The math was right there all along, in one of his oldest, most worn down notebooks. In disbelief, he reread his notes over and over, and was sure he couldn’t have possibly gotten it wrong. (Y/n) was dozing off in the plush arm chair, and he took a moment to admire her: all of the stress from the impending doom was gone. No tell-tale gunshot wound, no signs of excessive blood-loss. Her shoulders were no longer tense, the space between her eyes no longer creased. A peaceful expression had fallen over her, as though she would be perfectly content to live out her days in that chair with Five’s company, illuminated only by the small lamp in the middle of the table.
He drew a large red circle around the offending equation, and rose from his spot. He peered down at her snoozing form, and ran his hand through her hair. Careful not to wake her, he placed the notebook on the arm of the chair and strode quietly towards the door, knowing what he had to do.
He whispered something softly to himself, towards the empty hallways of the Academy.
The ocean waves were breaking softly along the shore, now littered with seashells after an afternoon rainstorm. The only chaos that remained was the wind that whipped through her hair, now unruly and wild from the rain. She turned around and saw him standing there, frozen in time with a grin on his face. Everything moved in slow motion as she ran towards him, crashing into his embrace. His palms rested on her cheeks, capturing her in a passionate kiss, until a small voice interrupted them.
“Mommy? Daddy?” She turned to peer down at the source of the small voice, to be met by a tiny girl with dark hair and verdant green eyes. Five bent down, finding purchase under the child’s arms, hoisting her to his chest. (Y/n) gingerly kissed the child’s forehead, then pressed another dizzying kiss to Five’s lips. He whispered words against her flesh that she had read so long before, words that were so real, she’s certain she couldn’t have dreamed them. “If something happens, just know I’ll find you eventually. I promise.”
(Y/n) woke with a start, knocking something off the arm of the chair. She slowly reached down, peering down at the foreign numbers and figures, outlined in bold red, then glanced across the room. Five was no longer situated at the table, and she began to panic. The woman leapt from her chair, sprinting down the hallway, shouting at the top of her lungs.
“Five? Five where are you?!” The pounding of her feet and the thundering of her pulse led her straight to his childhood room’s door. Before she could connect with the doorknob, a flash of blue illuminated the space beneath the door, accompanied by the telltale “pop” of her husband attempting some sort of jump. She flung the door open wide, only to be met once again with darkness. The room was empty: Five was gone. Again.
Weeks had passed, maybe even months at this point. (Y/n) wasn’t sure. No longer having the list of dates to guide her now that the Apocalypse had been avoided, she had, for the most part, lost herself in time. She could only assume it was midday, judging by the light that cascaded through the windows. Padding down the halls of their still empty home, she stopped to stare at herself in the bathroom mirror: her eyes had grown weary, and her hair was a matted mess, sticking up in all directions. Gently, she prodded at her ribs, which protruded slightly more than usual, a testament to her terrible diet since Five had…..Disappeared? That didn’t feel like the right word for it. Someone can’t disappear when this is their entire modus operandi. The absences were something she had grown accustomed to, but this time felt entirely different. There was no carefully curated list of dates, handwritten by Five. Nothing to look forward to. Nothing to expect. Not even a “goodbye” or “I’ll see you soon” to soothe her addled brain, only the words echoed in her dream from the note he wrote her as a child.
Starting the shower, she went through the motions. “This is what he would want me to do, right?” She thought to herself. “He would want me to try to be normal. Whatever that means.” Tears pricked at the corner of her eyes. “Come on, don’t cry. You cried it all out the first week. You’re too dehydrated to cry anymore.” Throwing her clothes haphazardly across the bathroom, she climbed into the shower.
And there she sat. She sat on the floor of the walk-in shower until the water ran cold. When she finally collected herself from the floor and wrapped herself in an oversized towel, she could have sworn she caught the wafting scent of coffee, but she waved it off as wishful thinking. (Y/n) glided towards the kitchen, a towel-clad phantom of a person haunting her home. Just beyond the threshold, she stopped dead in her tracks. A full pot of coffee sat brewed on the countertop, steam floating towards to ceiling. For a moment her breath left her lungs. Clutching her towel to her tightly, she raced towards the living room where Five Hargreeves, looking about fifteen years older than their last encounter, sat on the couch. The moment he laid eyes on her, he moved towards her as fast as his legs would carry him, stopping short as he saw her chest heaving in what he could only assume to be rage.
“I can explain. I can explain everything.” Five spoke calmly, as though he were trying to persuade an animal to not attack him. “I had the equations right years ago, I just didn’t realize it before. I was such a cocky asshole kid back then. I knew I could make this jump, it had to be just the right moment in time to get it perfect, to get me back to my normal body. Back to you.”
“Are you….Are you really home? For good? Just like this?” Her breathing was still erratic, knuckles turning with how tightly she squeezed the towel.
“For good.” He nodded, taking a step closer.
“And no more big jumps? No more accidentally getting stuck in the wrong body?”
“Nope. No more Commission. No more assassinations. I think it’s time to grow old…again. The right way.” He reached towards her, his palms resting on her shoulders.
“And what’s the right way, Five?” She closed her eyes, relishing in the warmth of his hands.
“Together. With you.”
She moved so quickly Five was afraid he may not be able to grab her in time. She darted forward, throwing her arms and legs around him, nearly knocking him to the ground. He supported her weight and held her flush against him. A sob erupted from her against the side of his neck. “Promise me, Five. Promise you won’t ever leave me like that again. I was so scared you were gone. For good. That you would be lost and I would have no idea.” She grabbed his face, kissing him in earnest over and over, her lips salty from the broken dam of tears that ran down her face. “God, I never want to stop kissing you. It feels like I haven’t been able to in ages.”
Five felt his emotions getting the better of him, and thought for a moment that he may cry. “You know I was always going to make it back to you. My lighthouse.” He smiled against her kiss, returning it with equal fervor.
“Take me to bed, Five. I think we need to make up for lost time, no pun intended.”

I looked all around my room. There was a certain hoodie I was looking for and it was no where to be found. I let out a groan, I really wanted to wear that hoodie. Opening my contacts I clicked on the one person that I knew would know where it is. The phone rang a couple times before I heard the person on the other side call out a ‘hello’.
“Five have you seen my hoodie?” I asked crossing an arm over my chest, waiting for his reply.
“No,” He replied...a bit too quickly.
“...you’re wearing it aren’t you,” I sighed out pinching the bridge of my nose. Ever since I met Five he’s had the habit of stealing my clothes. From hoodies, to shirts, to even socks! You name it, he’s stolen it.
Five stayed silent, basically answering my question. I felt a small smile make its way onto my face, I can’t stay mad at the guy.
Chuckling slightly I said, “It’s fine if you are, I don’t mind.”
He let out a sigh, “So what if I am?”
Rolling my eyes I responded, “Calm down, I already said it’s okay, plus I find it adorable that you steal my clothes. Well sorry to cut this convo short but I gotta go. Talk to you soon!” With that I hung up making my way downstairs.

Meanwhile Five sat at his desk, his cheeks slightly warm. He tucked is nose in the neck of the hoodie to hide his flushed cheeks. The way they make him feel is something he’s never felt before.

I hummed to myself as I made my way up the stairs and to Five’s room. In my hands I held a plate of breakfast. It was the first day after the apocalypse that we ended. Five had been overworking himself the entire time and now it’s time for him to relax. That is my set goal at the moment. I swayed gently to the tune of “Time in A Bottle” By Jim Croce that was playing in my head.
I opened the door to reveal a sleeping Five. Yet he looked distressed and I knew I had to wake him up. I sat down on the bed next to Five and placed the tray of food on the table next to the bed.
“Five,” I whispered out gently placing a hand on his shoulder. “Five you’re having a nightmare.” His brows furrowed and he started to toss and turn and I felt myself frown. “Five wake up,” I said a bit more sternly, shaking him a bit. Finally he sat up panting, his eyes frantically taking in his surroundings. “Hey, hey,” I called out gaining his attention. “You’re okay, everything’s fine. The apocalypse is no longer happening,” I said softly.
Five looked away, seemingly embarrassed about the situation. I rubbed his back gently and he relaxed a bit.
“I made you some breakfast,” I said changing the subject and Five gave me a thankful look. I smiled and grabbed the tray placing it on his lap.
“You didn’t have to do that,” He whispered looking at the array of food. Five was being unusually soft, that nightmare must’ve really shaken him up. Or maybe he just trusts me enough to show me his more vulnerable side. I mean after everything we’ve been through, I’d be surprised if he didn’t trust me.
“I know,” I started. “But I wanted to. You need to rest after everything we’ve been through. You’ve had so much pressure pushed on you, but now you can finally relax. I know you’d need help doing that, so that’s what I’m here for!”
Five looked me in the eyes and we held eye contact for a good bit. I noticed a small smile make it’s way onto his face but he looked down at his food to try and hide it. A smile made it’s way onto my face at that as he started to eat.
“Thank you,” He muttered, still staring at the food. That’s something you won’t hear everyday from Five.
“Of course,” I replied. “I care about you.” It was silent, the only noise being the fork against the plate. Once Five finished I went to take the plate but he didn’t let me. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion as he placed the pate on the table.
Five scooted over to the other side of his bed and patted the space next to him. I also scooted over more and we sat next to each other. Hesitantly he placed his head on my shoulder and I unconsciously started to play with his hair. It was a peaceful moment that I wish I could live in forever. Over time we ended up laying down, Five resting his head in the crook of my neck as I had an arm draped over him, the other still messing with his hair. It was such a tender moment and I could feel my heart swell.
Finally Five gets what he deserves. A nice life with his family and the people he cares about.

I watched what I normally do when my family is out of the house. I was also reading fanfiction, so I was currently multitasking. It felt like any other day. Then the doorbell rang. I felt the anxiety crawl through my skin. I was always taught to not answer the door (unless it’s a known order like pizza or something). So I ignored the ring and continued to watch the show/video/movie.
Then something unusual happened. I heard a woosh like noise as well as footsteps. I felt my heart start hammering in my chest at the thought of a stranger currently being in the house with me. I quickly pulled up 911, but before I could call something unreal happened.
My bedroom door opened revealing Five Hargreeves. Wait...or would it be Aiden Gallagher? But Aiden would not just show up in a random person’s house like this. Five doesn’t exist though! Oh jeeze what the hell is going on. This has to be a dream right? But I’ve never had a dream this concise before. I couldn’t seem to speak or even breath as we just stared at each other.
“Good,” He spoke up. “You’re here. Get dressed we have to go.” My mind reeled as I couldn’t seem to process what the fuck was going on.
“Who the hell are you and why are you in my house?” I questioned, trying to hide my slightly shaky hands.
He rolled his eyes while muttering, “We don’t have time for this.” He sighed and gave me a strained smile, “I’ll explain on the way, okay?”
“B-but my parents-”
“You’re parents won’t be here much longer if you don’t just come with me,” He glared. I gulped but stood up.
“Okay,” I nodded. “I’ll change really quickly.”
After I changed, we got into the car.
“So who are you?” I asked.
“Five,” He replied.
“Five Hargreeves?” I asked meekly glancing at his stoic face.
He shot me a look of surprise and distrust before saying, “How do you know that?”
“Uhm!” I said feeling a small blush form on my cheeks. I have literally been obsessing over the old, caffeine addicted male for I can’t even remember how long. I couldn’t just tell him that though! Let alone that his and his siblings lives are a Netflix show that I’ve watched more than once. “Wait is there an apocalypse happening?” I asked with great concern looking over to him quickly. He glanced at me again, his eyes narrowed in suspicion.
“Shit,” Five muttered, eyes widening. “You work for the commission don’t you, this whole thing was a trap.”
“Wha?” I sounded out with wide eyes. “No way! I’m too unfit for the Commission anyways. I can barely walk up stairs without losing breath.”
“Then how do you know so much,” He continued.
“You wouldn’t believe me,” I sighed.
“Try me,” Five replied pulling into a parking lot for a...abandoned Blockbuster? I thought they were all wiped out. Whatever. Five parked the car and turned to me with a calculating gaze.
“What if I said you are a character from a show I watched along with all your siblings,” I spewed out quickly, not making eye contact. I noticed his eyebrow furrow as he processed what I said.
“What do you mean?” He asked.
“Well I mean it was also a comic, though I still have to read that,” I rambled on but stopped myself. “There’s a show called The Umbrella Academy where you try to stop the apocalypse twice, season three still has to come out though.”
I fidgeted with my hands as he raised an eyebrow. He seemed to be amused with himself as he said, “The Commission would never make such a ridiculous story, okay let’s continue then.”
“Hey!” I shouted as he got out of the car. “It may be ridiculous but it’s true!” I scrambled out of the car as I followed behind him. “And you never answered my question!”
“Well if what you say is right, then you probably already know,” Five shrugged. We entered the Blockbuster and my heart dropped at his smooth words. I forgot this was basically a daily thing for him, but I, on the other hand, was used to my mundane and normal life. Yeah I’ve read fan fic that had this scenario, but I never thought it would actually happen! I took a few deep breaths as Five took out a oh so familiar briefcase, yet it looked a little modified.
“Wait,” I stopped to which I could tell I was definitely starting to irritate him. “What do I have to do with this?”
“Let’s just say you don’t belong here,” Five said mysteriously and I became even more confused. What does he mean? All I can remember is growing up and living my life here, no time stuff, no weird fantasy stuff, just...a normal life. Before I could ask another question he glared at me, “Like I said, I’ll explain everything later, just come with me.”
For all I know he could be leading me to my slaughter. Yet knowing Five, he only would’ve killed me if he needed to and he would’ve done it right away. Plus this was my literal dream, so might as well enjoy the ride. Five grabbed the suitcase, knowing that I had to touch him so we both can go, I held onto his shoulder which tensed under my touch. Within a blink we were engulfed in a blue light. Then we were standing in the Hargreeves mansion. Holy fuck, if this was a dream please don’t wake me up.
Five seemed much more relaxed now and walked over to the bar in the parlor room. I followed him like a lost puppy, I mean where else would I go? He set the briefcase down and started to make a drink. I felt a little awkward but I still had a ton of unanswered questions.
“Five,” I called out and he didn’t even bother to turn around. “C-could you now explain what’s going on?”
“Yeah yeah,” He sighed out. “Have a seat.” I sat down on the barstool next to him and he offered me a drink. You know what, might as well. I accepted the drink with a small smile and we clinked our glasses.
“The Commission took you when you were a baby,” Five began explaining. “They took you from this dimension and took you to a different one. The Handler seemed to enjoy chaos and you being in that dimension affects ours gravely.”
I took in this information and whispered out, “No one is insignificant.” Five raised an eyebrow in question and I responded, “A quote said by you.” He nodded and a smirk formed on his lips.
“So you quoted me before?” He asked, his ego seemed to expand a bit.
Then I remembered all the times me and my friend would shout ‘I’M THE DADDY HERE’, which technically we were quoting him. I felt a smirk overcome my face as I gave him a sly grin.
“Wanna know your most popular quote?” I asked resting my elbow on the bar table, also resting my head.
“Sure,” He replied taking a sip of his drink, eyes never leaving my figure, which internally flustered me.
“I’m the daddy here!” I shouted out giggling after like a madman. Suddenly the familiar brother of Five that I loved possibly even more than Five entered.
“Five what type of party are you having-” Klaus stopped in his tracks and stared at me. “You have a girl over!” Five let out a sigh and took an even bigger sip of his drink. I felt my inner fangirl try to consume me as I bit my lip.
“Hi,” I squeaked out and Five glared at Klaus.
“Hello,” Klaus replied with a smile. “So how did you meet my dear little brother?”
“Long story,” I smiled awkwardly.
“I got time,” Klaus smiled sitting down on a stool next to me, grabbing a drink that Five previously made. So I explained everything, from being from another dimension, to the fact they were a tv show where I was from.
“Who’s your favorite?” Klaus asked eagerly with a childlike excitement.
“That’s a tough question,” I groaned out. “Either you, Ben, Vanya, Allison, Diego, or Five.”
“That’s all of us,” Five pointed out. “Besides Luther.”
“Yeah I know,” I shrugged sipping my drink. “I can’t choose.”
“Why not Luther?” Klaus asked genuinely curious.
“The whole ‘dad sent me to the moon’ stuff irritated me, I liked him a little more in season 2,” I explained. “Yet Diego was really getting on my nerves in season 2 with the whole JFK thing. Also when everybody ignored how much Five went through seeing you all die so many times like ugh-”
Five cut me off with a warning tone, “(Y/n).” Klaus seemed surprised by what I just said and I let out a cough nervously.
“Sorry about that,” I let out a nervous laugh as Five gave me a murderous glare. “Didn’t mean to...say all that.” Klaus looked between Five and I, a tiny smirk forming on his face. Oh no, this wasn’t going to be good.
“So you know a lot about Five huh,” Klaus asked with a raised eyebrow.
“I know a lot about all of you,” I shrugged. “Some stuff you guys might not even know about yourselves, or maybe that’s just me assuming stuff, who knows?”
“Tell me something about Five,” Klaus persisted.
“Don’t,” Five spoke out.
“I won’t,” I agreed. “The stuff I ‘know’ is kinda personal and I don’t wanna say stuff that may not be real either.”
“Awe,” Klaus pouted. “No fun.” Klaus stood up and walked away, “See ya!” Then it became awkward between Five and I. He stared at his drink as I kept giving him glances. Then realization hit me, where will I go? I don’t have friends or family, and I don’t have a job or money. Am I even a resident of the United States here? Oh god now I’m panicking.
“Hey Five?” I whispered out.
“Hm?” He questioned out, alerting me I gained his attention.
“Where will I go?” I asked. He looked at me in confusion. “I don’t have any money, or a job, or no where to stay.”
“I didn’t expect you to go anywhere for a bit,” Five shrugged like it was obvious. “We have to find your birth information along with your social security card, then you can get a job and whatever you want from there.” I felt my heart thump as the thought of Five actually caring enough to not kick me to the street filled my head.
“Y-you don’t have to,” I stuttered out staring into his eyes.
He rolled his eyes, “I’m not cruel enough to kick you out with nothing.” I felt a tiny smile make it’s way onto my face, never in a million years did I think any of this would happen, yet it was.
“That’s very sweet of you,” I said sending him a smile. He looked away and continued to consume his beverage.
“Don’t tempt me,” He growled and I giggled.
“Okay old man,” I grinned.

43 people were born October 1st, 1989. That was normal. What wasn’t normal was the fact that all mothers had no signs of pregnancy beforehand. I was one of those 43, my name being (y/n) (l/n). I was young when my parents died. They were killed, and that’s where the commission comes in.
I was seen as a tool, not human. They killed my parents and took me and trained me to become a killer. My power was dangerous and can be uncontrollable if my emotions get the best of me. I have a power that people nicknames ‘The Touch of Death’. It only works when I feel hate consume me.
The Commission has taught me how to control my power, which is the only good thing I can say about them. They only taught me how to control this power I hold, but they also trained me to become a top time assassin. I was killing at the age of 10 and they showed no remorse.
I hated killing. I despised it. I felt more and more dirty the longer I worked. I felt my humanity wash away along with the metaphoric blood of my victims. I’m lucky that when I kill it causes a heart attack. The world always seemed dull when all I did was kill. I barely remember the smiles of my parents. Let alone the last time I ever smiled.
A pneumatic tube was sent to me, alerting me that my short break was over. I opened the door to my side table and opened the tube. Taking out the paper it read;
Visit the Handler immediately.
I got up and made my way to the main commission office without question.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☂
I knocked on the door and I heard the dreaded voice I oh so hate chirp a ‘come in’. I enter the room and try not to let my hatred for the Handler bubble over, good thing I have my safety gloves on.
“(Y/n) dear!” She smiled sickingly sweet. “Just in time, I’d like you to meet your new partner, Five.” I looked at the man who sat across from her. He had black hair, deep blue eyes, and was wearing a new crisp suit. “Please, have a seat,” The Handler basically demanded. I sat down after I was done analyzing the new recruit. He had a cold gaze, and looked very tense.
“I don’t need a partner,” Five hissed out with a glare thrown at me. I felt my short temper tick, yet the Commission trained me well.
“I know you don’t,” The Handler cooed out. “But this mission is tough and the Commission wants to make sure all contracts stay intact.” She looked over the both of us and leaned back in her chair, “You see (y/n) here is a loyal worker who has been with us for a little over 10 years, she will show you the ropes and then you both can go on your marry ways.”
I glanced at Five, so the Commission doesn’t trust him yet. Makes sense why’d they send me then, if he tries something I can easily stop him. I nodded my head as The Handler handed us both a file.
“This will be your first target,” She spoke out. I read over it quickly, keeping notes of the important parts before handing it to Five who rudely snatched it out of my hand. “You are now both excused.” I stood up and started to walk to the briefcase room, not even waiting for my new partner to catch up. I heard fast paced footsteps as he caught up giving me another glare. That seems to be all he can do.
“Do you even talk?” He asked raising an eyebrow. So out of spite I stayed quiet and shrugged my shoulders. He let out an irritated sigh, and for once in a very long time did I feel some sort of enjoyment. Childish of me, I agree, yet I still found it amusing at how I can annoy Five.
“Hey Mark,” I spoke out quietly to the man who keeps track of the cases. “Need a case.”
“Alright,” He nodded writing my name down, then slowly glanced to Five. “New partner? What happened to the last one?”
I let out a sigh and crossed my arms, “Not fit enough for the Commission.” Five looked at me wearily, not trusting me, which I don’t blame.
Mark nodded in understanding, “What’s your name new guy?”
“The name’s Five, not new guy,” Five glared. That’s really all he does huh.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☂
“This will be your kill,” I mutter out as Five and I scope out our target. “This is sort of a pledge to make sure you won’t just run away. Not that you’d get far.”
“I’m sure I could manage,” He replied giving me a sarcastic smile. Five took out his weapon of choice, that being a sniper, and took aim. I watched as he furrowed his brow in concentration, shutting one eye. After a few seconds, he took the shot. Yet the target moved away the second the bullet shot out. They of course became frantic and I quickly stood up.
I tried to rush towards the house but Five stopped me. I looked back with a slight glare until he used his power and teleported us. Wait he has powers? I shook my head and took my gloves off. I thought about how much I hate killing and hate the Handler as Five restrained the target. He gave me a confused look as I walked over without a gun or knife.
“Where’s your weapon?” He asked looking me over. I went and touched the targets face, which turned from fear/shock, to pain immediately after I touched them. I put my gloves back on as I watched their heart give out on them.
My hatred vanished as that normal empty feeling afterwards came. I let out a sigh as the person finally collapsed and Five stared in shock.
“What the hell did you do?” He whisper shouted.
“You’re not the only one with powers,” I responded bitterly, already making my way out of the house.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☂
Turns out that Five being my partner wasn’t just a one time thing. In fact we were ‘better as partners’ as the Handler put it. So we had to tolerate each other for much longer than we originally thought.
“You seem young to be working here for 10 years,” Five brought up. We were currently in a motel to rest. I felt my face harden. Yet knowing Five for as long as I have now...well it wouldn’t be fair to not tell him.
“The Commission killed my parents and trained me to be a weapon,” I explained briefly with the shrug of my shoulders.
“Oh,” He responded awkwardly.
“It’s not like you killed them,” I tried to ease the awkwardness. “Why are you working for the Commission?”
“I was stuck in the apocalypse,” Five replies looking at me in the eye. “I had no other way out.” I felt my old empathetic and sympathetic side come back. That must’ve been terrible.
“Oh,” I replied, just as Five had done to me. Five continued to look me over making me feel slightly uncomfortable. “Is there something wrong?”
“Do you enjoy it?” He asked. “The killing.”
“No,” I responded immediately. “To be honest I hate it. In fact, I’ve always wanted to live a quiet life with a pet or two. Read a nice book while drinking tea during a sunset in a nice cottage house.” I trusted Five enough to tell him my dreams. He was brutally honest and I’m always a good judge of character. Plus the bond that grew between us for the past few months made me trust him 10x more.
He stared at me for a few seconds before saying, “I have a plan.” I sent him a confused look as he continued. “I’m going to stop the apocalypse, but in order to do that I need to perfect this equation I can use to travel to 2019.” I felt my eyes widen, possibilities running wild through my head.
“Why are you telling me this?” I question sitting down next to him.
“I know I can trust you,” He whispered back. At that moment, I felt something that I haven’t in a long time. “And I want you to come with me when the time comes.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☂
“(Y/n),” Five looked at me after setting up his sniper, just like he did the first time. “It’s time.”
I gave him a knowing look, and unconsciously I felt myself smile. This was it, I was finally going to leave the nightmare that I lived. I felt the hope that consumed me when he originally told me his plan fully blossom.
“Let’s go then,” I said with a small smile, which he reciprocated.

It has been around a week since I first came here. The only one who has been in and out of the house besides Five and I was Klaus. He really seemed to like me and sometimes he would get me some treats, which I loved every sugary treat he would give me. It’s weird because everything is a off brand version of what I know. Little Debbie Cakes? Nah, now it’s Tiny Tammy Confection.
Anyways as I was saying, normally it’s just us three in the house. So when Five went off to do something, and Klaus was out with a friend, I was home alone. Just like how this crazy stuff started. So you can tell how freaked I was when Luther walked into the kitchen as I was eating a peanut butter and marsh mellow sandwich (shut up Five got me into them). I guess he must’ve been just as surprised.
“Who are you?” Luther asked defensively.
I swallowed my food before saying, “A friend of Five’s.”
“Oh,” He said awkwardly and it was just so awkward.
“Uhm, I’m (y/n),” I smiled politely. “It’s nice to finally meet you.”
Luther gave me a confused, “Finally?”
“She’s from a dimension where we are characters in a popular show,” Five explained walking into into room.
“What?” Luther asked looking at me with wide eyes.
“Yeah,” I smiled sheepishly. Five handed me a cup of coffee and I gave him a soft ‘thank you’. Luther just nodded.
“Well uh, it’s nice to meet you too,” Luther smiled back before walking out. I wondered if he needed anything. I went to take another bite of my sandwich only to find it gone. I looked around and found it in the hands of Five.
“How dare you?!” I asked with fake hurt and put my hand over my chest.
“You’ve been hanging out with Klaus a lot haven’t you?” Five asked with a smirk and I pouted.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☂
Klaus and I were hanging out at the moment. He was painting my nails (f/c) as we talked about whatever came to our heads.
“Did you know window’s aren’t a solid or a liquid?” I asked as Klaus gave me a confused look.
“Why would it be liquid?” He asked.
“Because the molecules flow down,” I replied back.
“You sound like Five,” Klaus laughed slightly. Then the door opened showing Diego. He looked surprised at the scene.
“What’s...uh,” He asked giving me a suspicious look.
“Meet Five’s girlfriend,” Klaus introduced falsely.
“I’m not Five’s girlfriend,” I defended with a blush and looked to Diego. “I’m (y/n).” “Diego,” He introduced even though he didn’t have to.
“She knows,” Klaus hums going back to finish my nails. “She’s from another dimension.”
“Yeah,” I smiled awkwardly. “I guess I was originally from this dimension but was brought to another, and Five brought me back.”
Diego nodded, “Hey Klaus, I just wanted to let you know that you have someone waiting for you downstairs.”
“I totally forgot they were coming,” Klaus said with wide eyes. A smile took over his features, “Aaaaaand done, cya around (n/n)!” Klaus rushed out of the room and left Diego and I to be awkward in the room. He ended up just waving goodbye and left the room.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☂
Today was a whole Hargreeves family visit. Allison is bringing Claire to meet everyone and boy was I nervous. I told Five that maybe I should stay in a hotel for a week but he said that I would have to meet them sometime. I mean he’s right but I just felt like this was going to be an intimate family thing but Five was adamant on me staying.
I made sure I dressed nicely (Klaus took me out shopping because I needed my own clothes) so I made good first impressions. I smoothed out my shirt looking at myself in the mirror to make sure everything was perfect. I know I already met most of the family but I really liked Vanya and Allison. I then noticed Five standing in the doorway with an almost smile which made my heart flutter.
“You look nice,” Five said crossing his arms. “C’mon thery’re gonna be here soon.” I nodded and let out a breath to try and calm myself. I got this. I walked with Five to the parlor, Klaus also being there along with Diego.
Diego looked at me for a second before saying, “Should she be here?”
Five gave him a nasty glare, “Of course she should be.”
“She’s a family friend Diego,” Klaus smiled throwing an arm around my shoulders. Five made Klaus let go of me which made the man child whine. Then the sound of the front door opening alerted us. In came in Vanya followed by Luther.
“Hey guys,” Vanya smiled at her siblings, then her eyes fell onto me. “Oh hello!”
“Hey,” I waved. “I’m (y/n), nice to meet you.”
“You as well,” Vanya agreed. “I’m Vanya.”
“I like your name,” I complimented and she thanked me shyly. I sat between Five and Klaus as everyone else took there seats. We waited for Allison and Klaus help kept the conversation going.
“So then (n/n) over here had to restrain Five!” Klaus exclaimed with a laugh. “You should’ve seen it!” I couldn’t help but laugh as Five rolled his eyes.
“How long have you been here (y/n)?” Vanya asked.
“A month and six days,” Five responded for me. Vanya’s eyes widened and her mouth parted slightly.
“Wow,” She said. “You’ve been here for a long time.”
“Yeah,” I smiled sheepishly rubbing my arm slightly.
Then once again the front door opened and in came Allison and Claire. I once again felt my nerves sky rocket and I gripped my pants tightly. Five noticed how tense I looked but didn’t know what to do to help. So instead Klaus ended up holding my hand to try and calm me down and I gave him a thankful smile.
Claire came rushing in and smiled at us all, pulling Allison behind her.
“Mommy!” Allison exclaims. “They’re all here!” Allison smiled lovingly and chuckled slightly, “They were all very excited to meet you.” Everyone got up and went to hug Claire, well Five shook her hand but still, it was so cute and wholesome.
Then Claire saw me, “Mommy, who is that?” Allison looked at me and tilted her head.
“This is (y/n),” Klaus said with a smile. “She’s a friend.” I felt out of place once again and I waved awkwardly.
“Cool!” She exclaimed with a toothy smile. “What can you do?”
“I-I don’t have a power,” I smiled nervously.
“Claire,” Allison warned lightly. “Apologize.”
“Oh no it’s okay,” I dismissed with a wave. “I don’t mind. I don’t even think I should be here.” I whispered the last part.
“Then why are you here?” Luther asked and I felt myself glare at him.
“Five wouldn’t leave me alone otherwise,” I blamed giving him a sly grin.
“Don’t go blaming me,” Five glared with embarrassment.
“So you wouldn’t mind me leaving right now?” I asked making my way towards the door. Five blinked in front of the door blocking me from leaving and gave me a strong glare. I couldn’t help but smile and grabbed Five’s hand and dragging him back to where we were.
With that I got to know the Hargreeves better. Claire was a sweetheart and Allison was very nice. Diego seemed to get used to me and Vanya seemed to like me. Luther seemed to tolerate me while Klaus and Five well...they were they same. After the day came to an end and all the rooms were taken up I was moved to Five’s room temporarily. I was already changed into pajama’s and I was sitting on Five’s bed.
“It wasn’t awful now was it,” Five spoke up walking into his room.
“I guess not,” I shrugged. “But I don’t think Allison wanted me here.” I gave him a pointed glare with a pout.
He rolled his eyes and walked over to the bed sitting next to me, “She’ll warm up, she probably was just not prepared to meet someone.”
“Why didn’t you tell her I’d be here?” I asked with big puppy eyes.
“Too much of a hassle,” Five shrugged with a smirk.
I let out a gasp, “How dare you!” He let out a tiny laugh but tried to hide it behind his hand. I let out a gasp and couldn’t help but to squeal and jump slightly on the bed.
“I made you laugh!” I exclaimed with pure joy.
“Shut up,” Five responded not being able to look at me and...omg were his cheeks red?
Then the sound of footsteps quickly coming filled the room. The entire Hargreeves family (-Claire) rushed to the doorway. The sounds of concern filled the room as they all overlapped each other asking what happened.
I let out a giggle and Five glared at me, “I made Five laugh!” I could tell they were all surprised as Klaus busted out laughing.
“You two are so cute,” Klaus sighed out with a hand over his heart. I gave Five a quick hug and his reaction was to push me away but he seemed like he couldn’t move. Almost like I rendered him motionless. When I pulled away I could hear his family murmuring and walking off, some of them making sure to slightly tease Five before fully leaving.
“W-what was that for?” Five exclaimed.

I looked at the bump of my belly with a gentle smile. Any day now, any day now and I would give birth. The father? Well the father is the one and only Five Hargreeves. We finally became an item and then even married. It may seem rushed for two 25 year olds to be married and a child already on the way, but after Five and I living a life on the go constantly, I think we were doing well.
The reaction Five had when he found out he was going to be a dad was priceless. I felt a bigger smile tug at my lips at the thought.
I stared at the test in my hand. Positive, I was gonna be a mother. Five was going to be a father. Was this too quick? Does he even want a child? To be a father? What if, what if, what if. I was scared to tell Five the news, yet I knew he needed to know.
As I walked out of the bathroom I leaned on the doorway, test still in hand. Five sat at the desk in our shared room, writing down something. I felt myself want to calm down at the sight, yet my heart wouldn’t stop beating erratically. He glanced up at me and raised an eyebrow.
“Is there something wrong?” Five asked, his attention fully on me now, eyes laced with slight worry.
“I’m pregnant,” I said quickly. Better to rip the band aid off then to slowly take it off. His eyebrows nearly shot up to his hairline as he looked at me with great surprise.
He stared at me for a few seconds, taking in the information before saying, “I’m gonna be a dad?” I nodded, looking towards the ground. I heard the sound of his chair scraping as he got up and walked towards me. He lifted my head up using his hand, “Do you want me to be the father?” His voice held such insecurity I couldn’t help but gasp.
“Of course I do Five!” I exclaimed. “I love you, I always have and always will!”
“But what if I turn out like my father?” Five couldn’t help but ask looking away and dropping his hand away from me. I grabbed his cheeks and forced him to look at me.
“You thinking that let’s me know right off the bat you’d be better than him,” I said softly. “Plus we’ve known each other for so long and got a second chance, not many people get that and I know you won’t let it slip through your fingers.” I pulled his head down a bit so I could give him a quick peck on the lips.
“I love you,” He mumbled into my neck as he pulled me into a hug.
“We love you twice as much.”
That moment seemed so long ago yet it also seemed like it was yesterday. Five always made sure he took care of me. He gave me whatever I asked for (as long as it didn’t hurt my pregnancy) and made sure I was comfortable (as comfortable as I could get). I was currently in the kitchen, Five sleeping in bed. I was making some eggs because, as little as the gesture was, I wanted to make sure Five felt appreciated.
I hummed gently. Then I felt water leak down my legs. I looked down and I felt my heart hammer against my rib cage.
“Five!” I shouted in as a reflex and in less in a second he was by my side, eyes looking over my entire figure making sure I was okay and not injured or in danger.
“What,” He rushed out breathlessly.
“My water broke!” I exclaimed placing my hand over my belly bump. His eyes widened even more as he brought me to the car in slight hurry and sped off towards the nearest hospital. I held onto his hand as I felt the contractions start and my eyes watered from the pain. I let out grunts and tried to not scream (which I might have failed at) the whole way. Five blinked into the hospital, alerting the staff of our little situation and they brought out a wheel chair and wheeled me in.
Once I was in the hospital and on the bed, the doctors and nurses were all around me. I looked around and couldn’t find my beloved.
“Where’s Five?” I groaned out as I pushed. “I want him here!” Then the next moment he came in, his hair disheveled since he wasn’t able to get ready, his eyes frantic and worried.
I held onto his hand tightly as he brushed some of my hair away from my sweaty face with his free one. He kept whispering reassuring words as I continued this hell of a ride.
It ended after 4 hours, which wasn’t that long one of the nurses told me. When the baby finally came I was able to hold it. She was beautiful. A part of me and Five. I felt completely exhausted as I looked up at Five who was still standing, staring at the two of us with one of the most loving expressions he’s ever wore.
“You can hold her Five,” I whispered out, breaking him from his slight trance.
“I-I...” He stumbled out. “Can I?”
“Of course you can silly,” I laughed slightly. I held her out to him and he gently held her in his arms. “You’re gonna be a great father.” I scooted over slightly and let him lay down next to me.
“Thank you,” Five whispered out to me as I laid my head on his shoulder. “Thank you for letting me live this life, for letting me settle down with you and have a kid.”
“Only for you Five,” I replied closing my eyes gently. Then I felt sleep consume me.
Only for him.

Seven Stages (Pt. 1) — Five Hargreeves x fem! reader
Summery: Reader is a Commission runaway living in Texas, and how their world spins crazy again when they meet an old friend.

Main Master List | TUA Master List
Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four | Part Five
The sound of a car made me on edge. Not a lot of cars pass by since I live a bit away from the city. My paranoia didn’t cease when I heard the person turn the engine off. Clearly someone was here for me, and I’m not gonna just sit around and let them kill me. Why was I so paranoid? Well I’m ex commission. I left on some not so nice terms and I was currently hiding out in the year 1963 outside of Dallas Texas.
Footsteps approached the front door and I went to hide in a closet. I held onto my trusty pistol as I listened intently. Footsteps walked around my small house and I became confused. There was no sound of the door opening or breaking, so how did they get in...unless. No way. That old man definitely wasn’t here. Could he be?
I haven’t seen Five since I left! I don’t think he’d want to visit me anyways, he was going to save the world in 2019 and live the rest of his life. Plus how did he find me? I thought I did a good job at hiding.
The closet door swung open and as a reflex I threw a punch. Yet the person grabbed my arm and twisted it behind my back effectively pinning me. I looked over my shoulder and low and behold it’s...a 16 year old boy? I went to elbow him in the stomach with my free arm but he seemed to know my fighting style and dodged it. He let out a chuckle and before we could continue he started talking.
“(Y/n), I’m surprised to see you here,” He spoke out. This guy seemed oddly familiar. It also didn’t make sense that if he was working for the commission that he would be surprised to see me.
“Who do you work for,” I finally managed to speak out still confused about the entire situation.
“Can’t even remember your old partner?” He asked raising an eyebrow and smirking.
My eyes widened and I immediately felt myself relax, “Five?” He rolled his eyes and looked around.
“Shitty place,” Five commented making me roll my eyes. Same old Five.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☂
I decided to help Five save the world. Which he and his siblings brought back with them. I mean why should I sit around and wait for the world to end if I can do something about it?
It was also surreal being around Five. It was weird that we were around the same age. Seeing someone as an old man then suddenly them as a teen was hard to process. Yet I got over it due to the fact that working at the commission threw some weird things at you.
So far, Five and I have just been trying to get all his siblings back together which was incredibly hard, but we managed. The plan now was to get a case and have the Hargreeves go back to their original time. In order to do that...we’d have to meet up with his past self.
“Well, there I am,” Five mumbled to Luther and I as we entered the pub. We peaked around a support beam as we gazed upon the younger/older Five that was seated, his case tucked in front of his feet.
“Why don’t we grab the briefcase and run?” Luther asked like it was the easiest task in the world.
I rolled my eyes and replied, “That’s near impossible. We’re trained to guard these briefcases with our lives.”
“Right,” Luther nodded.
“Plus, it’s the inherit paradox where this gets tricky,” Five added on. “I’m endangering my existence being in the room as myself.” I let out a sigh. I offered that I could talk to his younger self alone but Five was having none of it.
“Huh?” Luther questioned. “What do you mean?”
“Luther,” I glared. “Try to keep up.”
“If old me doesn’t try to go back to 2019 like he’s supposed to,” Five started to explain. “The whole thing unravels itself. I cease to exist. You got me?”
“I get you,” Luther agreed.
“Our best chance is to talk to him,” I concluded. “Reason with him.”
“He’ll understand,” Five agreed with me. “Trust me.”
“I know him better than he knows himself,” I snorted out, covering my face slightly. Five rolled his eyes and Luther looked between us slightly confused.
Five itched his neck and Luther’s eyes widened. “You itched your neck,” He pointed out. “That’s stage two of paradox psychosis.”
“I did not,” Five denied and at that point, I know we are in for a long ride. “I didn’t itch my neck.”
“Denial is stage one,” I pointed out with a sing song voice and a smirk making him glare at me.
“I am fine, okay?” Five scowled at us. “Let’s stay on task shall we?”
Five started to walk forward but Luther stopped him, “Wait.”
“What?”
“Maybe I should go first,” Luther said.
“Why?” Five asked, actually confused.
“We’ll you’ll freak him out,” Luther pointed out. “And she’ll scare him.” He had a point.
“Bumping into his little doppelganger will make him lose his shit,” I pointed out. “And he might think I’m coming to kill him, due to the fact that he is also experiencing paradox psychosis.”
“Let me break the ice,” Luther ended. Once in his life, he actually came up with a smart idea.
Five nodded and glanced around him, “Okay.” He took in a deep breath and so did Luther.
As Luther walked away I whispered to Five, ”You should order some water. Don’t want you to get dehydrated.”
“I’m fine,” He whispered back.
Luther and younger Five spoke a bit before Five and I revealed ourselves.
“Hey there stranger,” I joked with a smile and a wave. I almost laughed as he looked like he was about to shit his pants. We got a table and we all sat down awkwardly.
“Well...” Luther broke the silence. “This is nice, isn’t it? The four of us together like this.”
“No,” Both Fives said at the same time and I laughed a bit. Might as well enjoy the show.
“Somebody explain to me, how it is that I’m having a pint of Guinness with my younger self,” Old man Five said.
“Older, actually,” I pipped in as he eyed me wearily. “14 days older.”
“And why are you here (y/n)?” He asked. “Last I checked you ran away.” “Yeah, but you see Five here found me again and I’m helping him out,” I explained patting the Five that looked 16 on the shoulder.
“How’s that possible?” Older looking Five continued to ask.
“I can explain,” The other one said. He then went on the explain how everything happened and what the older looking Five is about to do. Then he presents an offer that would be beneficial to both sides...but damn that paradox psychosis. Older looking Five leaves to use the bathroom, Luther following shortly after.
“There going to plan against me,” Five grumbled leaning back in his seat. I grabbed a napkin and wiped away as much sweat as I could. “Yeah, you’re probably right,” I hummed patting his cheek making him swat my hand away.
“You going to help him?” Five asked looking at me with shifty eyes.
“No,” I replied leaning back in my chair as well. “I just find this whole situation entertaining.”
“I’m glad my possible death is entertaining you,” Five said sarcastically making me laugh a bit. Man was I enjoying this.
“I won’t let anything happen to you Five,” I replied with a smile. “Two highly trained assassins against one, pretty good odds if you ask me.”
“Two assassins against an assassin and an ape, not good odds,” Five retorted with a pointed look. Okay good point. We stayed silent until the two came back.
“We good?” Five asked.
“We’re good,” The older looking Five agreed. “You’ve got a deal.”

apocalypse a·poc·a·lypse /əˈpäkəˌlips/
noun
the complete final destruction of the world.
That was the hell I was currently going through. I bet you’re wondering how I survived. To answer your question simply I have powers. Yes like a super hero except I wasn’t all heroey. In fact I tried to avoid any bad situation just like the next guy. My power? Regeneration. The cells in my body regenerate faster than any other living beings. It was both a blessing and a curse.
When I got hurt it would heal in a snap. Yet I still felt the pain and let me tell you it hurts. So surviving the apocalypse was bad in many ways, but one way was that I felt my skin get burned. It felt like an intense burn ravaging my entire body, not a single inch of skin safe.
Then came the problem of being the only person left on Earth. I had to scavenge for the bare necessity and I had no motivation of survival since I would survive for however long.
Currently I was sitting down in the ruins of a library mulling over what I have been through. Seeing the moon crash down onto the Earth’s surface was terrible. I was filled with fear for not myself but my loved ones. I knew life’s cruel ways would have me survive a world alone.
I’ve been wandering the Earth’s barren surface for years now. Dealing with the storms and my mental health. I let out a shaky sigh remembering my friends and family and their unfortunate deaths.
“Tell me whooooooo,” I whined drawing out the o.
“It’s Jarrid,” My friend sighed with a small smile.
I let out a squeal, “I so want to help you two get together.”
“No!” They groaned not wanting to get embarrassed by me. I glanced out the window with a bright smile until I noticed that the moon was on fire and chunks of it were coming closer to Earth. I felt my heart drop and my throat close up. Noticing my expression my friend followed my gaze and our faces held the same look. One of utter devastation and fear. I looked to my friend with tears quickly sliding down my face in rivers. Before either of us could mutter a single word we were licked up by the flames. The last sensation I felt was burning before passing out.
I let out a choked sob as the memories resurfaced vividly. Why am I cursed to live on when there was nothing to live for? I noticed that night was coming and that I should go to bed. I knew that I wouldn’t get much sleep since nightmares plague my dreams every night. I perked up at the sound of footsteps, not having heard anything but a voice in my head for the past few years.
Is this it? Have I finally gone crazy? Am I hearing things? I looked around the horizon seeing a figure in the distance. I felt my heart speed up and my mouth felt more dry than normal. My mind was racing yet I couldn’t focus on one thought.
“H-hello!?” I shouted out waving trying to gain their attention. “Are you real?!” The ‘person’ saw me and started to make their way towards me. So many emotions were rushing through me at the moment. When they finally got to my little shelter the sun was fully down and the stars were out twinkling.
It was a guy who was taller then me. He had black hair and lifted up his goggles revealing the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen. Then again I haven’t seen another person in such a long time. I felt tears leak from my eyes once again and I placed a hand on his cheek to make sure that he was indeed real.
“Y-you are real,” I whispered out, my voice cracking slightly. He let out a shaky laugh like he was trying to stop himself from crying as well.
“As real as I can get,” He responded and God was it nice to hear someone else. I hugged him not caring if it was rude to not ask first. I held the stranger as close as possible, still not believing this was real.
“W-we should rest,” I stuttered pulling him into my shelter. “What’s your name?”
“Five,” He replied, his voice slightly raspy.
“(Y/n),” I replied with a small smile. He nodded.
That was how I met the only other survivor of the apocalypse. We bonded quickly even if we both had our fair share of arguments. He explained how he had a way of getting back to the past to try and stop the whole deal and I told him as much as I knew of what caused the apocalypse. We were as close as close could be. We had a mutual understanding that in order to survive we should stick together and try and get along. Yet some arguments really hurt me...
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☂
“Five you should take a break, let’s eat some lunch,” I spoke up when I noticed how stressed my companion looked.
“I’m close to a breakthrough (y/n) but I can’t focus with your yapping,” Five snapped glaring at me.
“Your health is more important,” I argued back. “If you lose it then there’s no way back!”
“You already are making me lose it!” Five snarled. “At least Delores let’s me think!”
“Delores is a mannequin!” I cried out feeling my frustration fill my veins. “She can’t tell when you need a break and when you need to take care of yourself!”
“I wish you would just go away and leave me alone,” Five spat.
“Is it so bad that I care about you?!” I shouted feeling tears threaten to spill.
“Maybe you shouldn’t,” Five said. “Maybe you should just leave and never come back.” I felt my heart shatter at what he said. He looked so sincere and I felt my tears bubble over. I looked away and walked off. If he wants me to leave fine. I left our base and didn’t care where I would end up. I let out a scream of frustration and kicked a rock.
“Shit!” I cursed feeling a bone or two break. Stupid Five. Stupid Delores. Why does the last person on Earth hate me? I was just being kind. I care for him, I love him, he’s the only one keeping me sane. Yet he drives me insane at the same time. I sat down staring at the sun make its way across the sky. I have to go back sometime. I know he didn’t mean what he said, but it hurt none the less. I calmed down and breathed in deeply. Standing up I made my way back to the camp. The sun setting behind me. It was a beautiful sight no matter what.
When I entered the camp Five sat before a small fire with two things of food. I stopped in the ‘doorway’ and he looked up at me. They say the eyes are the gateway to the soul and honestly I believed that. Five looked so scared, guilty, and sad at that moment. He looked like a boy who was scared to lose the last thing he had and I felt guilty too. I left him and he actually thought I wasn’t coming back.
Five gaped at me before keeping his mouth shut and looking down. I sat down next to him and we ate in silence.
“I’m sorry,” I mumbled out, not being able to take the deafening silence.
“No,” Five responded seriously. “You have nothing to apologize for. I’m sorry for saying that to you. I don’t want you to leave, ever. Please stay.” I stared into his deep blue eyes and I felt myself soften at his pleas.
“I could never leave you Five,” I said softly. “I love you and I could never leave you.” Five’s eyes widened and his cheeks turned a sharp shade of red. He swallowed nervously as he felt his heart beat erratically. I smiled at him, understanding how it would be hard for him to return the words, but I knew he felt the same way. I pulled him into a gentle hug and we stayed that way for a long time.
We may be stuck in an apocalypse, but I’m glad that we have each other.

Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four | Part Five
Older looking Five and Luther were walking ahead of us while younger looking Five and I strayed behind. Luther and older looking Five were whispering to each other, obviously planning against us and I couldn’t help but sigh out.
Younger looking Five walked backwards and glared at some people, “What’re you looking at? See something funny?” I let out another sigh trying to hide my laughter. I know I should try to stop him from shouting at random people but holy fuck was it funny. “Mind your business!” Five shouted at someone walked towards us. “Or I’ll give you something to look at!”
“Five,” I said calmly gaining his attention. “Calm down.”
He glared at me, “Or what, your going to shoot me?” I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. Okay now this is just annoying.
“Five,” I growled out as a warning, not wanting to fight with him.
“You wish you could pull off these shorts!” Five shouted at another person walking by. He kept itching himself and he was acting super paranoid. I felt bad for him honestly. The commission made sure to drill into our heads how dangerous paradox psychosis yet I’ve never seen it in action.
Luther looked back at us and we switched places. Standing next to older looking Five it was tense. I could tell he didn’t trust me.
“It’s been awhile,” I spoke up softly. We were close when we both worked at the commission and then I left him. I felt guilty, but I had to leave, I couldn’t deal with the killing anymore. He nodded curtly. “I’m sorry I left,” I whispered.
He looked at me, “I’m glad you’re okay.” I felt myself soften at that and the struggle between teasing him or keeping this a tender moment overcame me.
“You’re planning to kill him aren’t you,” I sighed out, something I seem to have done a lot of today.
“How-”
“I know you pretty well Five,” I rolled my eyes. “We were partners for quiet awhile.”
“They seem to be in a big argument huh?” I asked as I glanced behind me to see Luther and younger looking Five shouting at each other.
“Worst case of paradox psychosis I’ve ever seen,” The Five next to me replied.
“Hmm,” I hummed in acknowledgement. “I know you’re suffering from it too.”
“I’M THE DADDY HERE!” Younger looking Five shouted at Luther and I bursted out laughing.
“Oh my god,” I giggled out. “He actually just did that.” Older looking Five looked at me with a look I’ve never seen him give before. “You’re such an old grump,” I said trying to start another conversation. “No matter the age you are physically.”
He rolled his eyes and spoke out loud to us all, “Would you two stop grab-assing? We’re here!”
Older looking Five started to set up his stuff while I walked over to Luther and younger looking Five.
“Flatulence, stage four,” Luther whispered to himself.
“See?” Five pointed out. “What’s your plan now buko?” Five then farted making him look away in embarrassment, “That was just lunch okay? Shut up.” He walked away slightly and Luther looked like he was trying to decide who to side with.
“This is my favorite part,” Older looking Five said putting his sniper together and effectively breaking the silence. “The calm before the storm.” Younger looking Five was breathing heavily, staring at the briefcase. I placed a hand on his shoulder, trying to calm him down even though I had no clue how to. Soon stage seven is going to kick in and I don’t wanna deal with that. No mater how old the Five’s may be, they are still absolute children.
“Look, the briefcase,” Five said, squaring up his shoulders and knocking my hand off.
“No Five,” I replied.
“You won’t be able to make it there in time,” Luther agreed.
“Of course I will,” Five replied back and I was ready to smack some sense into this guy. “This is our only chance.”
“Hey, uh, just remind me,” Luther said. “What was the final stage of paradox psychosis again?”
“Homicidal rage,” Five and I said at the same time.
“Right,” Luther chuckled. “That’s great.” I silently agreed with the big man.
I noticed Five inching closer and I spoke up, “Five listen to me- No. No!” Five blinked forward and older looking Five blinked behind aiming his rifle at his younger looking counterpart.
“Bad idea shit-heel!” He shouted cocking his gun. I went and skillfully grabbed the rifle.
“Stop it!” I shouted, glaring at the two. “Pull it together!” “Kennedy is going to be coming around the corner any minute,” Luther pointed out. “So everyone take a deep breath.” Luther took in a deep breath and released it. Older looking Five took a shaky breath in and out while younger looking Five took in a tense breath and released. “Now we’re all family here...besides (y/n) but still,” Luther said trying to defuse the situation. “Can we try to get along for a few more minutes?”
“You want it?” Younger looking Five asked and I knew this wasn’t going to end well.
“Go ahead,” Older looking Five replied and that’s when I knew this really wasn’t going to be good.
“What’s that?” Luther asked. Then *BAM*! Kicked right in the nuts by younger looking Five. Luther fell down and both Fives started to fight. Both Fives were fighting and blinking around making it near impossible for me to try and stop it. I felt myself become frustrated as all I could do was watch next to Luther and wait for him to recover.
Both Fives ended up hitting Luther once again which cause Luther to shout out, “I’m really getting sick of this!”
Older looking Five being now incapacitated, younger looking Five started making the portal to 2019. I held the sniper defensively knowing I can’t kill older looking Five or everything will be messed up. Older looking Five woke up slowly and watched as younger looking Five was creating the portal.
He went to grab the case but I was quicker, and aimed the rifle at him, “Don’t even think about it. Into the vortex old man!”
“Fine!” He shouted back. “But give me the math so I don’t end up looking like Tiger Beat over there!”
“You stand next to the vortex then I’ll tell ya,” Younger looking Five replied. “Go!”
Older Five stumbled near it and stopped a good distance away.
“Closer,” I motioned, losing my patience with the old bastered.
“This is close enough!” He shouted back and I rolled my eyes. “Now give it to me!”
Younger looking Five looked back towards me and Luther and we nodded at him.
“It was a typo,” Five finally said.
“Typo?” Older looking Five asked.
“We put the decimal in the wrong spot,” Younger looking Five explained. I zoned out a bit because he then started to spill out some sciency stuff I didn’t care about.
“I guess this is it,” Older looking Five concluded. Finally.
“This is it,” Younger looking Five smiled in frustration. “Go.”
“See you again in the future,” I smiled nicely, hoping to ease his nerves. Then I got hit in the head with a fire extinguisher knocking me to the ground. The two Five’s then started to struggle with the briefcase and Luther had no clue what to do. What a dumbass. I tried to sit up but dots scattered across my vision.
“Five,” Luther spoke up pointing at the vortex. “It’s shrinking!” He ended up kicking older looking Five through the vortex and the briefcase was split in half. This entire shit show for nothing. “We did it!” Luther said amazed.
“The briefcase you idiot,” I managed to moan out. Five walked over to me and lifted me up gently. I stood up and held my head, feeling dizzy. He let me lean on him and we walked towards the fence to watch Kennedy.
“Uh oh,” Luther said as we saw Diego running towards were their father stood.
“Ah shit,” Five muttered.
“Diego,” I chuckled to the best of my ability.
Diego tackled what appeared to be a frail old man to the ground. Then Kennedy got shot anyways.
What a day.

Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four | Part Five
Five gasped out, waking up riddled with bullets. He felt something in his hand and notice that (y/n) was holding it. Dead...the one person who has always kept him sane...gone. All around him laid the lifeless bodies of his family. Once again he had to witness them die. The handler said some meaningless words to him before she herself was shot.
Five watched as the Handler fell to the ground dead. There stood the last Swedish brother who walked over to Five. Lifting his gun, Five got some flashback.
“Maybe your apatite is disproportionate to the size of your ability,” His father spoke out. “Start small. Seconds, not decades.”
Five’s hand glowed a vibrant blue as everything started to reverse. Standing up, he rushed to the barn door as everything continued. His family stood back up, the Handler out of the barn. He glanced back to see (y/n) stand up once more taking a defensive position where he was standing before. Their eyes locked, almost like she could see what he was doing...but she couldn’t. Right?
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☂
I gasped out as Diego once again asked Lila that she could be apart of our family. How did...Five-
I looked to my side to see that he wasn’t there. Looking around I found him behind the barn door, like he was...wait this all seemed like a deja vu moment. Like this happened before. Before I could think any harder Five disarmed the Handler who walked in with an automatic gun. I felt my breath hitch as flashes of us all getting shot filled my head.
What the hell is going on?
Before the Handler could answer Lila’s question she got shot by one of the Swedish brothers. We all took a moment to watch as she fell to the ground. After a few seconds Lila took a mad dash towards the case and Luther tried to stop her, but Diego stopped him. I took my pistol and went to shoot but she vanished with the case before it could hit.
Five aimed the gun he held at the Swedish man, who did the same. I also aimed my pistol at the platinum blonde man as the other siblings seemed to be shocked that I actually used my weapon.
The air was tense as Five lowered the weapon and dropped it to the ground, holding up his arms, “Enough.” The Swedish man looked at us all, first staring at Allison, then me, who still held a weapon. Slowly, I placed the pistol on the ground, trusting Five.
“Tillräckligt“ The Swedish man replied, also dropping his weapon. He walked out of the barn and we all somewhat relaxed. I walked over to Five and place my hand on his shoulder. I gave him a look letting him know I had something to tell him when we had the chance and he slightly nodded.
“Who the hell was that guy?” Klaus asked.
“Vanya!” Sissy shouted. “Help!” I forgot this was her place. We all trickled after Vanya into the cellar. I kept a grip on Five’s hand as he still seemed distressed and he didn’t let go, in fact, he gripped my hand tightly.
Vanya successfully took her power back from Harlan and Sissy held her child in a tight hug. I smiled at Vanya proudly as she smiled at us all. Five, Diego and I exited the barn as we noticed Herb and Dot from the Commission appear.
“Herb, Dot,” Five acknowledged, not once letting my hand go.
“Hey,” “Hi,” The two greeted back.
“Sup Herbie,” Diego greeted.
“My man!” Herb replied as they did some sort of handshake. Five and I looked on in amusement and I had to hide a chuckle. “I can’t believe it,” Herb said with a smile. “Is she...” Herb trailed off motioning a line to his neck.
“Really dead this time?” Five continued for him.
“Definitely,” I said.
“Now that the Handler is gone, what happens at Commission?” Five asked.
“Just tell them,” Dot whispers excitedly to Herb as he stumbles over his words.
“We need to elect a new board of directors,” Herb explains. “But, until then, I um...I’ve been voted in as acting chair person.” Dot claps excitedly and I felt myself smile at her enthusiasm.
“No shit,” Diego breathed out, happy for his friend. “Congrats Herbie, that’s huge.”
“I’m so goddamn nervous,” Herb replied and Five smirks. I can tell Five is glad that the Commission is in good hands, in hands that are our allies. I’m glad too.
“You’ll do fine,” I said smiling at the nervous man.
“Oh, thank you,” He thanks.
“Herb we need a favor,” Five says looking at him and Dot.
“Oh sure anything!” Herb exclaims.
“A briefcase,” Five continues. “Go back home where we belong.”
Herb and Dot looked at the dead bodies that littered the field and he gestured around, “Take your pick.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☂
Five and I sat in the entrance of the barn silently.
“Five,” I whispered out breaking the silence. He looked at me and I looked at him. “What...what happened?” I asked and he gave me a confused look.
“What do you mean?” He asked back.
“I...have two sets of memories,” I explained to him to the best of my abilities. “I remember us all dying so vividly. The Handler-” I choked out as the image of Five’s dead body crossed my mind. I put a hand to my mouth as I felt tears gently slide down my face.
Five took my face in his hands gently and wiped the tears away. I grabbed his wrist gently with the hand that was over my mouth as I stare into his hazel eyes. We leaned closer together.
“That never happened and it never will,” Five murmured, his breath fanning over my face.
“But-” Five cut me off by kissing me gently. I kissed back immediately, warmth filling my entire being. His lips felt so soft and tasted slightly bitter like coffee. After a few seconds we pulled away slowly, my eyes fluttered open and I watched as his did the same. “I love you Five,” I whispered, fearing that if I talked any louder it would shatter this moment.
“I-I...I love you too (y/n),” Five stuttered out, not used to saying such words. A smile made it’s way onto my face as I nuzzled Five’s hand that still held my face. I noticed a smile ghosted over his lips as I kissed his palm.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☂
We all stood in a circle, done saying our goodbyes and whatnot.
“Everybody ready?” Five asked looking at us all.
“Let’s do it,” Luther said. “Yeah.”
“Okay,” Five said, done setting the right time into the briefcase.
“All right,” Diego nodded.
“Wait!” Klaus shouted out. We all gave him confused looks as he went and grabbed a cowboy hat, put it on, then came back.
“Fifty bucks and we leave him here,” Diego muttered to Five and I gave Diego a playful glare. We all gathered into a circle, I stood in between Five and Allison. I held onto Five’s shoulder and also held onto Allison’s hand. Opening the case, we were all transported to the Hargreeves mansion along with us being in the time of April 2nd, 2019.
We did it. The Hargreeves are back to the right time.
“Day after the apocalypse,” Five stated looking at the newspaper. We all looked at each other in astonishment and congratulated each other. We made our way to the liquor cabinet and had a fun night, worry free.
What else would you do after stopping two apocalypses?

“Authorities are asking for help identifying several persons of interest at Dealey Plaza at the time of assassination. The FBI believes they may have been acting in concert with the alleged shooter, Lee Harvey Oswald. Vanya Hargreeves, wanted in connection with the deaths of several FBI agents inside federal building at Dealey Plaza. A Cubin exile known only as Diego, who recently escaped from the Holbrook Sanitorium. A bare-knuckle boxer with suspected mafia ties who fights under the alias “King Kong”. Allison Chestnut, a negro radical responsible for instigating and organizing the recent riots at Stadler’s lunch counter. And finally, Klaus, a controversial cult leader and known tax evader. The FBI is asking the public to be on look out for this unidentified boy and girl who they believe is being held hostage by the suspected terrorist network...”
“Well, it’s true,” Five spoke up, stealing my attention which was previously on the tv. “I do feel like I’m being held hostage most days.” I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help but slightly agree.
“God I hate that photo,” Diego muttered.
“They’re saying I instigated the riot?” Allison asked incredulously. “That’s unbelievable.”
“Look, the good news is that we restored the timeline,” Luther pointed out.
“We did stop doomsday,” I chimed in.
“Yeah, a bunch of real goddamn heroes,” Diego scoffed. “We let Kennedy die.” Again with this bullshit.
“Yeah, and now we’re the most wanted people in the world,” Allison added. Can’t we at least celebrate one victory? Five worked so hard to stop everyone from dying and they don’t even give him the time of day. She went on about how we need to hide but I knew we needed to do something else.
“Hiding isn’t gonna change anything,” I said crossing my arms. “The Commission will follow us wherever and whenever we go.”
“She’s right,” Diego agreed. “They’ll never stop.”
“I’m sorry, since when are you an expert on the Commission?” Five asked sarcastically.
“Since I got back from there,” Diego replied.
“What?” I asked not believing it.
“Yeah, they headhunted me,” Diego replied. “Offered me a job. Full time with benefits which I had to turn down.”
Five gave him the most sarcastic look before saying, “They headhunted you...the village idiot?”
“What?” Diego asked standing up straighter. “Am I not allowed to be headhunted? Only the almighty Five and his girlfriend are allowed to be in demand?” My eyes widened and I felt my cheeks flush red. I opened my mouth to argue but Five beat me to it.
“Diego, you’re not commission material, all right?” Five stated. “Got an obstinate nature to ya.”
“Who do you think it was that figured out that Vanya was the one that causes doomsday and stopped it?” Diego asks rhetorically. “Me.”
“Hey!” Klaus calls out in defiance.
“I figured it all out on the infinite switchboard,” Diego continues.
“You were on the infinite switchboard?” I asked surprised.
“Hell yeah,” Diego confirmed. “I made that machine my bitch.” Okay, not being able to listen on I sat down on the stairs in front of Allison. Everyone started to get in on the arguing so I zoned out. Why didn’t Five deny me being his girlfriend? Did he just ignore the comment? Or did he possibly feel the same? Wait did I just think feel the same? No way do I like that asshole...
“I’m leaving,” Vanya speaks up catching my attention.
“What?” Allison asks, her protective sister side showing. “To go where?”
“Sissy’s farm,” Vanya answered. “Something’s wrong with Harlan, and I need to help him.”
“Vanya, we need to stick together, okay?” Luther replies. “Now more than ever.”
“That’s why I’m telling you this,” Vanya continues. “What ever is going on with Harlan, I think I might’ve caused it.”
“How?” I couldn’t help but ask.
“He drowned, and, uh, somehow I was able to bring him back to life,” She explained. “And now it’s like we’re connected.”
“W-what does that m-mean?” Luther stuttered confused.
“I don’t know, I can’t explain,” Vanya sighed. “But I know that he need my help. I need your help too. I’m scared. And for the first time in my life I don’t want to do it alone. I want my family by my side.”
Everyone seemed to look away and I felt my stomach drop. I may have been a time assassin my entire life but damn I wasn’t this heartless.
“Look, I’m sorry,” Diego spoke up walking closer to Vanya. “We have other priorities right now.”
“Diego’s right,” Five agreed. “For once. We need to make our stand here and now.” You know what, if no one else is gonna go I might as well. I may not be her family but I can tell she’s going to go with or without them and I don’t want her to go alone.
I stood up but before I could say anything Five stopped me. He shook his head and right then I was about to do something I might regret.
“Okay,” Vanya said dejectedly. “I guess I’ll see you when I see you.” Five walked away and dragged me with him.
“What the fuck was that about!” I shouted feeling my anger rise. “If none of you assholes are gonna go with her I am!”
“We need to focus on getting back to 2019,” Five countered calmly.
“She’s your sister!” I exclaimed. “Doomsday is over! We have a little time.” He looked me in the eye and his eyebrows furrowed. It looked like he was mulling over his options. He nodded in agreement and reluctantly agreed. A small smile formed over my face knowing that he’s a major softie for his family. “Let’s go then!” I exclaimed grabbing his hand and dragging him behind me.
Allison and Diego seemed to have the same idea as us because they were already out the door. Luther looked at us, surprised that we were following. Five wiggled out of my grip and walked slightly ahead of me, opening the passenger door showing Klaus sitting there.
“Five, you...” Vanya trailed off. “You don’t have to...”
“I know,” He smirked. “You owe me one sis.” I smacked his arm and he rolled his eyes playfully. Turning to Klaus he spoke, “Children ride in the back.”
“Okay,” Klaus agreed willfully and crawled into the back making me smile. Five sat in the passenger seat and I realized there wasn’t going to be any room for me. I stood there awkwardly and Five seemed to notice and raised an eyebrow at me with a smirk.
“I can find another ride,” I smiled awkwardly. I mean can you blame me? This is like a family bonding moment and I’m just...here.
“No you don’t,” Five countered grabbing my wrist.
“You’re apart of this family now whether you like it or not,” Klaus chimed in with a giggle.
“But there’s no more room-” I got cut off by Five placing me next to him. We barely had any room and half my leg was on his. I felt embarrassed and felt my cheeks slightly heat up.
“Guy’s,” Vanya said with a happy smile. “I don’t know what to say.” I was so happy that the Hargreeves realized how important family is. The trunk opened and Luther climbed into the trunk and I had to stare forward to not laugh at how the car barely supported his weight.
“Anyone makes a fat joke and I’m outta here,” Luther said which made it even harder not to laugh. I mean I had to cover my mouth with my hand to stop myself from snorting. Vanya pulled out, the exhaust pipe dragging on the ground the entire ride.

Once we got to Sissy’s house I couldn’t help but stare in awe at the unnatural weather. Snow littered the yard and a tunnel of energy formed into the sky coming from the barn. The trees bared no leaves showing how this must’ve been happening for a while now.
“You think what ever is inside is causing the cold front?” Diego asked as we all exited the car. I mean it was obvious whatever was happening in the barn was causing the strange weather.
“Well the correlation is high,” Five stated. I feel like sometimes he says bigger words just to make himself seem smart. I mean don’t get me wrong, he is the smartest person I’ve ever met, but still. He could’ve said something simpler than that.
“Sissy!” Vanya shouted out. “Sissy!”
Sissy cocked her gun and pointed it at us, “Get back!” I mean a shotgun won’t do much to us but I understand where she’s coming from. “All of you, just get the hell back!”
“Sissy!” Vanya shouted once again holding a hand out. Klaus raised his hands up making me laugh to myself silently. Five was ready to do something if need be and so was Allison. I had my hand over my pistol which was strapped to my thigh. “Hey! Hey! What’s wrong?” Vanya asked with genuine concern.
Carl,” Sissy replied, looking over all of us nervously.
“What did he do?” Vanya asked.
“He’s...” Sissy said shakily. “He’s dead. Harlan tossed him aside like a rag doll, same way you sent those policemen flyin’. What did you do?”
“No,” Vanya said breathlessly.
“What the hell did you do to my son?” Sissy asked, I could tell she was really scared, and someone who is scared with a gun never mixes well.
Lightning hit the barn and Diego started to walk forward, “We don’t have time for this.”
“Where do you think you’re going?” Sissy asked aiming her gun at him.
“To help your son,” He responded holding out a hand like Vanya did earlier.
“Look Sissy,” Vanya said trying to calm her. “I found my family. These are my brothers and my sister, and our family friend.” Sissy looked at us all, slowly lowering her gun.
“Ma’am,” Luther said with an awkward wave and smile.
“Where you lyin’ to me the whole time?” Sissy asked.
“Of course not,” Vanya said honestly. “Look, I didn’t know who I was. But now I do. And we’re not the monsters that they say we are. We did not kill the president. We are not terrorists. We’re not here to hurt anyone.”
“Then...” Sissy panted lightly. “Who are you?”
“The only one who can help Harlan.”
Sissy finally trusted us and let us into the barn. Inside was a kid who was stuck in a ball of energy that he seemed to be creating. He wasn’t seem to be responding to anything Vanya said. So she stepped into the spinning energy ball. I stood next to Five who was standing in a defensive stance, ready to help his sister if need be. Poor man never relaxes. On the other side stood Klaus who...where did he...?
“Uh...guys?” Klaus asked, standing on the other side of the barn looking out at the field.
“What?” I asked out already making my way over to him.
“Oh fuck me,” I whispered noticing the handler and another person standing next to her.
“What, who are they?” Klaus asked.
“One’s the handler,” I started.
“And the other’s Diego’s girlfriend,” Five finished for me. Diego has a girlfriend?
“Lila,” Diego said. “That’s my ex-girlfriend.”
“What?” Klaus asked genuinely surprised.
“You know what? Doesn’t matter now,” He said still staring at the two.
“They both look angry,” I spoke out rocking on my feet slightly.
“Yeah.”
“Our brother has that effect on people.”
“We’re going to go out there and find out what they want,” Five said motioning me and him. “You guys stay with Vanya and the kid.”
“I’m going with you too,” Diego said. “Come on.” With that the three of us walked out to the Handler and Lila.
“I love that smell of fresh country air,” The Handler spoke up with a chuckle. “Don’t you darling?”
“It makes me want to vomit,” Lila replied grouchily.
“What do you want?” Five asked, wanting to get this over with.
“To watch you suffer,” Lila spouted making me stand in a more defensive position. Over my dead body will Five suffer any more than he already has.
“What about me?” Diego asked like a puppy and it was clear he still liked her.
“You’re not even worth my wrath,” She responded like that was the stupidest question asked. I would’ve high fived her for being strong but right now she was my enemy and I’m sure she also did something to Diego.
“Easy,” The Handler smiled with a warning tone. “We’re here on official business.”
“What business is that?” I asked keeping my hand over my pistol once more.
“As head of the commission, I’ve decided to eradicate the criminals responsible for the assassination of the former head of directors,” The handler said calmly. I looked at Five who looked even more on edge now which answered my question on what the fuck happened there.
“Yeah right,” Diego said. “We didn’t kill the board.” Diego obviously hasn’t realized that Five did yet.
“That’s not entirely accurate,” Five said nervously.
“You didn’t tell them?” The handler asked, she seemed to be having too much fun with this. Five shrugged and she continued, “Oh Five.”
“Five what the hell did you do?” Diego asked. Is...is he really this dumb?
“What I had to do to get my family home,” Five replied and I felt my heart break a little. “Until someone regened on our deal.” He had to kill again, and the deal obviously didn’t work out or they would be in 2019 at the moment. The handler probably had something to do with it and at that moment I wanted to tear her to shreds even more than I did before.
“Somebody wouldn’t have regened if somebody could’ve met a simple deadline,” The Handler countered, making it seem like Five was at fault.
“You set him up to fail,” I spoke up with a glare.
“He set himself up to fail, friend,” She smiled condescendingly and I almost launched myself at her if I didn’t know any better. “You and your brothers and sisters,” The Handler faced Five once more. “Kinda a running theme of your little life, isn’t it?” She had the gull to laugh.
“He didn’t fail in finding me,” I said crossing my arms.
“It won’t matter in the end,” She shrugged.
“Dude, I can’t believe you killed the board of directors,” Diego whispered to Five. “You have no idea how messed up the commission is right now.”
“Messed up?” The Handler asked. “Who’s saying that?”
“Everybody,” Diego glared. “Christ even the janitors think it’s going to shit!”
“That’s not all he killed,” Lila chimed in. “Her too.” She looked at Five and I with a glare.
“What are you talking about?” I asked confused. I haven’t killed anyone since I left the Commission.
“Don’t play dumb you prepubescent piece of shit,” She growled and Five stood slightly in front of me.
“Enough,” The Handler said. “The point is that you all are going to die today.”
“Oh, well I don’t like your chances,” Diego stated. “Eight of us, two of you.”
“You know? You’re right,” The handler agreed, clearly something up her sleeve. “Let’s change that.”
With a snap of her fingers people from the commission started showing up. Hundreds of people all surrounding her and pointing their weapons at us. Five staggered back slightly, clearly fearful of what will happen to us all. My heart started beating rapidly and the hold on my pistol tightened.
“What should we do now?” Diego asked.
“Fight and die now, or run and die later,” I breathed out shakily.
“Either way we’re food for the worms,” Five agreed.
“Preference?” Diego asked looking at the both of us.
“Wouldn’t mind breathing air for a few more minutes through the old wind bags,” Five shrugged and I let out a strangled chuckle of agreement.
“Let’s get this over with shall we?” The Handler asked looking at her wrist, did she even have a watch? She lifted a red flag and I shouted out ‘run’ while we slightly tripped backwards.
We all ran towards the barn and the sounds of people shouting followed us. They started to shoot while we were running for our lives. Five grabbed me and Diego and blinked us towards a red tractor. We took cover behind the big wheel.
“What now?” Five shouted over the sound of bullets ricocheting off the metal.
“We blink into the house man!” Diego shouted back.
“Okay,” Five mumbled softly and tried to blink us into the house, but it wasn’t working.
“What?” Diego asked.
“He’s out of fuel!” I replied, joining the conversation. “He’s too tired.”
“Go, I’ll...” Diego trailed off. “I’ll cover for you.”
“Diego what are you...?” Five asked as Diego stood up.
“Just go!” Diego shouted stopping the bullets from moving. Five grabbed my hand and dashed towards the house, taking one last look at Diego. Opening the house door he let me enter before following. I went under the table, Five joining me. He held me to his chest in a protective manner as something outside blew up. Bullets were nonstop firing into the house, the only safe spot being where we resided. All I could hear was bullets and Five’s heavy breathing. I felt tears prick my eyes, ‘This is it’.
The sound of energy bursting emitted and suddenly the firing stopped. Five lifted his head from my neck and looked around, as did I. We hesitantly looked out the widow to see everyone dead...besides the Handler, Lila, and his family. Vanya was floating in the air, a bright beam of energy showing from her chest. Suddenly Lila floated up in the same manner, same glowing energy, and I brought Five with me back under the table.
Luther crash landed in the living room. Five and I stared wide eyed at him for a second before rushing over.
“Luther, you alright?” Five asked worriedly.
“Oh, I think I swallowed my tongue,” Luther muttered out.
Five rolled his eyes, “Luther, if you swallowed your tongue you wouldn’t be talking, you big moron.” I rolled my eyes at how Five’s demeanor changed so quickly.
“Come on, to your feet,” I said gently grabbing his hand and helping him up. He stumbled back slightly dragging me with him, Five right behind me just in case.
“Hey what the hell was that?” Luther asked. “What was that?” Luther held onto Five’s shoulders to stabilize himself.
“She must’ve redirected,” I responded as Five looked back out the window. “Vanya’s energy wave.” I clarified.
“Yeah I know,” Luther said. “But how?”
Some bricks started to fall and Five looked up with wide eyes, “Watch out!” Five pushed me and Luther out of the way as bricks fell on top of him. I felt my stomach drop and the world around me seemingly blurred. I fell to my knees in front of the pile and started brushing away the bricks. Luther helping me.
Lila blinked into the house and I glared up at her, tears threatening to fall from my eyes.
“What are you?” Luther asked.
“A bitch,” I choked out. My throat felt like it was closing, but I had to keep my emotions under control.
“Someone who want’s to kill your brother and his little girlfriend,” She replied nonchalantly. I grabbed my pistol and aimed it at her.
“Well that’s understandable,” Luther said with a shrug. “Diego can be a lot to handle.”
“She’s talking about Five,” I grumbled, keeping my weapon trained on her as she made her way to Luther.
“Him too,” Luther agreed. “But unfortunately, they’re family, so you’re shit out of luck.”
Luther went to punch her and she held his fist. I analyzed what she was doing like a Hawk. I couldn’t shoot because that would endanger Luther and I only have six bullets to spare.
“How is this possible?” Luther grunted out.
“Gotta believe in yourself big boy,” Lila mocked as she threw him out of the house. Lila glanced at me but decided she needed to deal with the super family before taking on normal me. I let out a breath as I realized what is going on with her. She’s super, she can use people’s powers against them. I went back to the brick pile and started digging for Five once again.
He can’t be dead, I mean he’s Five. Five the smart mouthed bastard who just couldn’t die. He couldn’t. He won’t. Not under my watch. I found blue in the pile and kept moving bricks. Suddenly Five sat up looking around. He looked at me and looked over my entire, for the most part, unhurt being. I helped move more bricks so it would be easier for him to get up.
“Don’t do that again shit-heel,” I muttered out, once again almost crying.
He brushed a stray tear away, “I’ll try not to.” We walked over to the opening that Luther left.
“Looking for us?” Five asked shrugging his shoulders slightly. I quickly wiped some blood from his lip as she called him a turd. “Let’s dance.”
Five blinked and Lila did too. Shit I didn’t tell him that she has powers too. I ran into the house where they started to fight.
“Five don’t blink!” I shouted but he ignored me as he continued. I fought where I could. Landing a few square punches, her doing the same. She grabbed a pan as Five was still trying to figure out how Lila could do what she could do. Five blinked out of the house, as did Lila and I ran out try and find them. I saw the rest of the Hargreeves out by the red tractor and ran over to them.
“Where’s Five?” Diego asked as I panted.
“I don’t know,” I breathed out. We all decided to go to the barn then, since that could be the only place left. When we got there they were talking about some kill order. Yet all I could focus on was the knife she aimed towards Five. I was about to go in there, or better yet shoot the bitch, but Diego stopped me.
“She never cared about your parents,” I chimed in entering the barn after getting Diego off of me. “She was looking for you. I was also confused on why she came on that mission with us.”
Lila looked back at me, confusion and hurt showed on her face, “Why?”
“Cause you’re one of us,” Diego spoke up behind me, patting my shoulder, glad I didn’t immediately kill her. “The Handler stole you Lila, just like our asshole father took all of us.”
“No,” Lila denied. “It’s not the same thing.”
“You’re right,” Diego agreed. “Because he didn’t have our parents murdered. Listen to me Lila. You were born October 1st, 1989, the same day as all of us.”
“Stay back!” Lila threated as we all were circling her. We backed up defensively as Diego continued to try and calm her down. Luther even joined in to try and gain her trust but she just faked gag.
“All right I tried,” Luther said rolling his eyes.
“You’re right, we have to kill her,” Five said wildly. I can tell all this stress was going to snap him. Yet I kind of agreed with Five, having someone this unstable with those type of powers was dangerous on the loose. Five and I got closer to her but Diego stopped us.
“Five! Hey Five, (y/n)! Stop,” Diego shouted making us look at him. “I got it.” Five stopped and so did I, and once again Diego tried to get her to trust us. She looked at us all and I smiled gently, hoping it would ease her into the right decision. Right as it seem like she was going to agree the world seemed to stop.
Bullets shot into us all and I felt myself gasp as I felt my body become riddled with them. I fell backwards as I continued to gasp for air. My only thought at the moment was Five. I turned my head slowly to look at him and if I could at that moment I would’ve let out a sob. Seeing him riddled with bullets made the pain 10x worse.
I grabbed his hand weakly as my last thought ran through my head, ‘I love you’.

It was my first day of work. Time to put my training to work. I am currently working my evening shift at Griddy's Doughnuts. It wasn't too busy and I liked it like that. The bell rung alerting me of a new customer and a smile made it's way onto my face automatically. In came a kid around my age (16) and he took a seat at the counter.
"Hello, may I take your order?" I asked politely at the handsome young man sitting in front of me.
"Coffee, black," He stated and I felt my smile falter for a second. What a rude guy. I turned around and started to prepare the coffee, humming softly to the tune that sounded throughout the small dinner. I poured the brown liquid into the white ceramic cup and placed it in front of the black haired boy.
"Would that be all?" I asked.
"No thank you..." He trailed off his eyes lowering onto my chest. I felt uncomfortable until he finished his sentence. "(Y/n)." Oh he was just looking at my name tag. Of course why would I think anything different. I felt my face heat up at my thoughts and turned back around to clean some dishes. "I haven't seen you work here before."
"This is my first day," I replied glancing back at him and saw that he was staring at the back of my head. He hummed in response telling me that he was listening.
"My, this is the best coffee I had in ages," He complimented with a small smile.
"Thank you," I smiled. At least he was being more polite. I set his bill on the counter top and went to take care of another customer. When I came back he was gone. I felt a little sad since I was just starting to enjoy his company.
Yet my next shift he was there again. This time it was later at night so he was the only one here besides me. He once again got a black coffee. It was quiet for the most part, I went back to reading my book (which Miss Agnus let me when the day went by slow or if no one was in). I felt the stare of someone on me and I glanced up to see the kid's blue eyes focused on me. I tilted my head to the side and felt my cheeks once again heat up.
"Five," He said with a smirk.
"Five what?" I asked out confused.
He sighed the smirk leaving his face, "My name, it's Five." My eyes widened and I felt stupid even though the misunderstanding wasn't entirely my fault.
I nodded, "Unique." He rolled his eyes and I felt bad, but can you blame me I have no clue how to talk to people!
"Miss Peregrine's School for Peculiar Children?" He asked reading the title of my book.
"Oh yeah!" I exclaimed with a smile. "I'm rereading it, it's one of my favorite series."
"I'll have to check it out sometime," Five concluded. "What is it about?"
"It's...a lot and I'm not really good at explaining things," I explained sheepishly. "I do recommend it because it's a fun read." He nodded in understanding. I handed him his bill and a pen and he started to write something on it. I didn't pay attention and went back to reading. I glanced up from my book once again only to see the bill he wrote on next to me. I looked at it and it read;
Call me xxx-xxx-xxxx
I was surprised and held onto the piece of paper. I decided I would call him the next day and I was completely nervous. What if he gave me a fake number? Wait why would he even do that? I let out a sigh and quickly pressed the call button like I was ripping off a band aid. I held my phone to my ear listening to the rings which were quickly silenced by Five.
"Hello?" He asked.
"O-oh hey its uh, (y/n)," I rambled nervously. I fiddled with my shirt sleeves staring at my ceiling.
"Oh hey," Five said almost dismissively. "Are you free today?"
"Yeah," I replied, glad it was a Saturday.
"Text me your address and I'll pick you up around noon," He stated.
"Okay, see you then," With that we hung up.
I got off my bed and ransacked through my closet looking for some nice clothes to wear. I then went to take a shower and dried my hair off with a blow dryer. As I was finishing up my mom told me someone was here for me. I made my way down to the living room and there sat Five. He looked at me and gently smiled which was odd but it made my heart flutter anyways.
"Ready to go?" He asked standing up. I nodded and my mom gave me some money before we left.
"So where are we going?" I asked tilting my head.
"Oh you'll see," He smirked. We walked down different streets and our hands would brush or our shoulders would bump which made me slightly flustered. We ended up at the zoo which was a nice surprise. Five payed which I was against, and we looked at all the different animals. Sometimes he would give me some random facts. It was fun and over time we held hands. It was nice and I loved all of it. It was obvious that this was no friendly outing but I surprisingly not scared, nervous or anxious. He ended up walking me home and we were standing outside on the steps to my home.
"I had a good time," I said with a bright smile feeling better than I ever have.
"I did too," He agreed. "I hope to do this again soon."
"That would be fun!" I grinned feeling like I was soaring over the moon.
"How about next week," Five offered.
"That sounds good."
"Have a good night (y/n)," Five said giving me a kiss on the cheek before leaving. My mouth hung open and I felt like my breath was taken away and it didn't help that I knew that cheeky bastard was smirking.
But I didn't mind since we just went on a perfect date.

The Happily Ever After (Through the Years CH3/Epilogue)
Summary: This takes place around 5 years after the final events in CH2 Five Hargreeves x F!reader Word count: 11k total across 3 chapters
Warnings: fluffy, some mild language, brief mentions of pregnancy
Banners and streamers littered the courtyard of the Umbrella Academy. The bright laughter of children echoed through the air, as the adults sat around the table sipping cocktails. (Y/n) was perched in Five’s lap, his head rested on her shoulder.
“I really don’t know how you guys do it.” Allison laughed. “I am SO glad that Claire wasn’t born with any powers. Must be a recessive gene or something.” Luther’s huge hand rested on her knee.
“Yeah, Claire is a handful without her being able to rumor us into getting literally everything she wants. I can’t even imagine.” Klaus deposited another tray of drinks on the table, taking a seat amongst his siblings.
“You guys haven’t even had to babysit yet, consider yourself lucky. Last weekend, she reversed time FOUR times just so she could eat the pizza we ordered again. And again, and again.” Klaus laughed, glancing over at the young girl, playing with a group of her schoolmates. “She’s probably going to rewind this whole party so she can do it again, you can tell she’s loving all of the attention.”
“Oh come on guys, we don’t give her free reign over time travel. We can’t help she’s a prodigy.” (Y/n) rolled her eyes, sipping her drink. “She hasn’t even started doing time jumps yet, thank God. I’ll probably have a head full of grey hair when she does.”
Five squeezed his wife gently. “You know I’ve got it under control when she does. She’s learning from the best.” She elbowed him playfully, pressing a quick kiss to his temple.
“With my luck, you’re going to get her stuck as a five year old and we’ll be dealing with THIS for the rest of our lives.” She gestures over at the child, who was now in a tug of war match with another child, screaming all the while. Vanya rose from her seat, making her way towards the children.
“Aunt Vanya’s got this, you guys stay put and enjoy the party.” The couple watched as Vanya crouched down, consoling the crying child. Scooping her up in her arms, she made her way back to the table. “I think it might be time for little D to take a nap, what do you think sweetheart?”
“But it’s my party,” the dark haired girl hiccupped through her tears, outstretching her arms towards Five and (Y/n). “Mommy I want more cake, can I have more cake?” (Y/n) stretched out her arms, cradling the child, and Five reached down to ruffle her hair.
“In just a little while, I think you’re getting cranky because you’re tired.” Five murmured over (Y/n)’s shoulder. The little girl peered up at them.
“Okay, so if I take a nap, I can have more cake?” She yawned, snuggling further into her parents’ embrace.
“Of course, you can even take your nap in the special hammock if you want. You’re the birthday girl, after all!” (Y/n) carefully stood, carrying the weight of the child, placing her gently in the brightly colored hammock.
While (Y/n) tucked the child in, Five peered over at Diego. “So, dear brother. How many more months til we meet your little one?” Diego grinned over at (Y/f/n) as she rubbed her swollen belly.
“We’re in the last trimester. Probably three or four more weeks before our little asskicker is born.” He beamed. “I can only hope our kiddo gets the badass gene. I’ll have her throwing knives before she can even say her first words.” (Y/f/n) rolled her eyes, and peered down at her belly.
“You better not. Our little Grace can choose if she wants to use her powers or not…That is, if she’s born with them. Seems like kind of a crapshoot, since we’re one for two with the Hargreeves spawns right now.” Klaus and Vanya look at one another.
“We’re both going to adopt. No freaking way are we trying to pass this down to anyone.” They share a laugh, as (Y/n) makes her way back to the table.
“What’d I miss?” She says, glancing at the family, sipping on her drink.
“Oh, just discussing the…What did she call it? The Hargreeves spawns?” Five patted his lap and (Y/n) plopped back down comfortably. “I wonder if our next one will have any abilities.”
“Oh slow your roll, Five. There’s no way we’re having any more for a WHILE, maybe ever. Dolores is a handful enough. Can you even imagine?”
“I mean, I never imagined having kids at all. Now I have a beautiful wife, my daughter is the next head of the Commission, and the family is back together sharing cocktails in the courtyard of the home we hated. Of all the impossible things that could have happened, I think anything is possible now.” He placed his hand on her cheek, turning her head towards him. Placing a firm, loving kiss to her lips, she smiled warmly at her husband.
“When I was a 12 year old girl, this was just a big, impossible dream. Now that I have it, I wouldn’t trade it for anything, in any timeline.” She kissed him again, more passionately, as a bright blue light and a pop resonated from the hammock. Five pressed his forehead against his wife’s, exhaling exhaustedly. “Damnit, Dolores.”

Through the Years (CH 1)
I have this posted on https://archiveofourown.org/works/23913232/chapters/57499045, but thought I’d share here too! Finally finished this work yesterday.
Five Hargreeves x F!reader
Summary: Number Five and the reader experience friendship and love that spans across the years and timelines. Word Count: 11k+ across three chapters.
Warnings: Violence in chapter 2, brief mention of smut in chapter 1, some angst, some language, canon divergent content
Setting her steaming mug gently on the table, she thumbed over a copy of her favorite book. “The Time Traveler’s Wife” emblazoned in large white letters across the front, the book was obviously well loved and well read. Her eyes flicked over to the calendar that hung on the wall: February 2nd 2019, circled in bright red marker. Today was one of the days, one of the final ones marked on her calendar. It was raining all day, but it would clear up by this afternoon, at least that’s what he had told her. She trusted this strange omniscience, the knowledge of things that would happen, the absolute certainty and resolve. She retrieved a second mug from the cabinet and poured a cup of rich, black coffee from the French press. He had told her she made the best coffee of anyone in any timeline, and she was inclined to believe that. Where he came from, coffee was a sparse and sought after resource. The ticking of the clock counted down the seconds, and she found herself syncing up her breathing. “Why am I so nervous?” she whispered out loud to no one in particular. A blue light flashed brightly on the opposite side of the room, and her breath hitched in her throat. The illuminated man composed himself, this time much older than she was used to. “Five?” She stepped forward, voice wavering. “February 2nd, 2019?” His face stern and weathered. Her head nodded in confirmation. Face softening, he strode towards her, wrapping her in a warm embrace. “Five, you’re filthy, is everything okay?” “Let me take a shower and I’ll fill you in.” He glided past her towards the bathroom, knowing precisely where he was going. She no longer felt hurt at the lack of affection when he first arrives, but had rather come to expect it. They had done this countless times in different locations: her parents’ home, her first apartment, once while she was on vacation. Five could seemingly always find his way to her, regardless of the time stamp. She sat quietly on the couch as the low hum of the shower started down the hall.
The first night he came in 2002 had been tumultuous. Her parents fought loudly in the living room, like they had done countless times since her sister had committed suicide. Those nights she found solace in lying on the roof of the house, staring at stars. The serenity was broken by a loud ‘pop’ from her bedroom. Wiping away her tears, she snuck back in through her window, to be greeted by the form of a boy around her age who appeared very shaken up. The girl began to scream, and the boy rushed over and placed a hand gently on her mouth. “Shhhhh. Please wait, listen. I need you to tell me the date.” He removed his hand, placing it on her shoulder. “It’s January 3rd 2002.” His mouth curved into a sly smile. “I’ll be damned, I DID IT.” Her eyes traced the emblem on the front of his neat sport jacket. “I came from two days in the past!” “You’re from the Umbrella Academy, aren’t you?” “Five Hargreeves, spatial jumper and now, officially, TIME TRAVELLER. Oh, father dearest is going to love this…”He paused, holding out his hand. “I’m sorry, I really don’t know why I showed up here of all places.” She reached out and shook his hand. “I’m (y/n),” she replied quietly, still attempting to mask the fact that she had been crying. Their friendship soon became a constant in her otherwise bleak life. He began visiting in the normal timeline, for the better part of a year. He would occasionally pop up in her room, asking what the date was: she could tell he was practicing for a bigger jump. One night, when they sat on the roof, she broke down. “I’m sorry I’m so boring. We sit up here nearly every night, I know this has to drive you crazy. You could be honing your time jumps, or literally doing anything else, than sitting up here with me. You’re extraordinary and I’m just…ordinary.” His hand brushed hers, so gently she thought she had imagined it. “Hey, you’re wrong. You’re definitely not ordinary. You’re like a beacon, or a lighthouse. If I ever get lost in the timeline, I think I’ll always be able to find you. That must be why I showed up here after the first jump!” He paused, staring at the sky. “You’re my best friend, (Y/n).” That night, he had left in another loud ‘pop’. At first light, she rolled over in her bed, noticing some items missing from her room. A picture frame that held a class photo, a necklace from her nightstand, small things that would seem mundane to an unknowing eye. Beside her head on the pillow, a letter was conspicuously placed. “(Y/n), Today I am going to attempt the furthest time jump that I’ve done yet. I know my father will protest, but I think I’m ready. If something happens, just know I’ll find you eventually. I promise. Yours, Five”
She was fourteen the first time he came back, popping up in the kitchen of her house. She marveled at how he was all at once the same, but was somehow different, perhaps a bit older. Once the shock subsided, she threw her silverware at him, unleashing her pent up anger. “You left me, Five. You left me,” she sobbed. He was unphased, standing with arms crossed. “Are you done?” he stared at her from the place she had collapsed in the floor. “You know the drill. Confirm date and time.” Five turned from her, rummaging around the cabinets. “August 15, 2004.” She hiccupped quietly, collecting herself off of the linoleum. “Do you know how to make coffee?” His facial expression didn’t change, but she could detect a hint of a smile in his eyes. Over a cup of French press coffee, he began telling her what he had been doing for the last two years. He had been recruited as a part of an organization that maintained appropriate timelines called the Commission. He dodged most of her questions, noting that his career was secretive. The question sat on the tip of her tongue, waiting for a lull in conversation. “In the future, do you see me?” He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, hands clasped around the mug. “I do.” He answered curtly. “I can’t speak to you though, it would alter the timeline. There are certain variables that have to be met…” he trailed off, a barely detectable sadness settled into his expression. “Otherwise, certain things won’t happen. The Commission says things have to happen exactly in the right order or it ruins the whole thing.” His jaw clenched. His mind goes to a particular fall day in 2014 that the Commission insisted on him traveling to, over and over again. A day in which he would love nothing more than to forsake the timeline and the Commission. “Like what?” cocking an eyebrow, her interest clearly piqued. “You’ll have to wait. Just give me a few years and I’ll have this all figured out. I’m not strong enough to jump too many times by myself. I’m only able to jump now because the Commission has given me the tools to do it with ease.” The coffee cup in front of his was empty. His arm outstretched across the kitchen table, and he grasped her hand. “Whenever I’m not on a job, I’ll come back as much as I can. I promise.”
She waited for four more unbearable years for her best friend to come back. She was on vacation in Mexico celebrating graduation, and a bright blue light illuminated her hotel room. As was the tradition, he requested the date first and foremost. She noted his height, he was several inches taller than her now, and he had the beginnings of unruly facial hair, and appeared to be in at least late 20s. His eyes remained the same. “Handsome” she thought outrageously to herself. He closed distance, placing his hands firmly on her shoulders. “(Y/n), the world ended. I have to fix this.” His eyes were blown out, panicked. “I came from year 2032.” “Well that explains the age gap. Five, you’ve got to slow down. Do you know where you are right now?” He looked around the room, then rushed to the open doors leading to a balcony, overlooking a calm, deserted beach. Whipping around rapidly, his eyes ran over her from the bottom up. His pupils dilated: she had grown into a beautiful young adult. He couldn’t have prepared himself for how she had gotten taller, her features slightly more pointed. “Oh my God, I missed your graduation, didn’t I?” He did his best to avert his gaze, she wore a baggy shirt and underwear, hair thrown in a messy bun. A flush crept over his cheeks. Nervously, she strode over to the balcony. “Five, you’ve been gone for a while…You missed everything.” There was no anger in her voice, just a hint of loneliness. She had rehearsed the moment he would return to her for years now, knowing exactly what she would say. “I can’t believe you’re here…”she paused, noting his somber expression. “It’s all going to be gone. The world ends and I have no idea how to stop it. Do you know how long I’ve been alone out there? There’s no one left…” he thought for a moment. “I didn’t think I would ever find you again after getting kicked out of the Commission. I practiced, and worked, and slaved just to be able to jump again, but I couldn’t. Then I thought of you. Just sat there, and thought about you, and I was here.” “Wait, you left the Commission? What are you talking about??” “Shit, I’m screwing up. I can’t talk about that anymore, otherwise I’m going to muck things up even worse.” Unexpectedly, he wrapped his arms around her, burying his scruff in her neck. Whispering, he murmured, “I don’t have much time. Any minute now I’m going to revert back to where I was. I just had to see. Just had to see….” He stopped himself, knowing if he poured his heart out, it would only make things harder. She didn’t know what he knew. In a quick sleight of hand, he slipped a piece of paper into her palm. He gently pushed back from her, the cool touch of metal brushing her chest. Around his neck, he wore the necklace that he had stolen off of her nightstand, accompanied by a thin gold band. Her eyes widened. “Five, is that my necklace? What’s that ring?” He placed his hands, clad in fingerless gloves, over her flushing cheeks. “I had to take it. I needed something to keep me grounded to guide me back. My lighthouse…” He began pulling her close once more, but just before the inevitable crashing of lips, a flash of blue light took him away from her again. It felt wrong. Five laid on a filthy mattress in the middle of a wasteland now circa 2032, knowing she was back in 2008, feeling miserable and devastated. He wanted to tell her what he did in 2014, just a few years before the apocalypse, but he knew it could alter everything.
(Y/n) moved into her first apartment while attending college in 2009. She had not seen him since he came to her on the balmy night in Mexico. Unfolding a small piece of paper he had slipped in her palm that night, she noted that one of the days, scrawled in what appeared to be blue crayon, was today. Attending her classes like normal, she had a creeping sense of anxiety at the unknown nature of the significance of the date. (Y/n) chose to skip her afternoon classes, and made her way back to her apartment. Immediately upon opening the door, the scent of black coffee hit her. A sense of panic washed over her: she definitely had not brewed any coffee that day. She felt for the light switch on the wall beside her, to be greeted to the sight of Five sitting comfortably on her couch, a briefcase positioned on the floor near his feet. “Christ, Five, what the hell? You couldn’t turn a light on? Why are you just sitting in the dark?” He stood from his seated position: clean cut, with a button up shirt rolled above his elbows and dark dress pants, easily younger than he had been in Mexico. “Sorry,” he smoothed his hair back with his hands. “I didn’t mean to scare you.” She stared at him quizzically, noting the dark circles under his eyes. There were unmistakable indicators that he had been crying. “Hey, are you alright?” Her feet were frozen just inside the threshold of the door. Seeing him in this state was completely new. Five had always been fairly level headed and logical: emotions weren’t necessarily his strong suit, nor were words. His eyes darted around the room, unable to meet her gaze. “What’s wrong?” He shook his head and rushed towards her, wrapping his arms firmly around her. His chin rested atop her head, and his breathing steadied. “I just….need you.” He pushed back slightly to look her in the eyes, his own wild with a flurry of emotions. Her mouth slightly ajar, he reached up and ran his thumb across her bottom lip, an inquiry. There were no words he could use to describe what was happening, he needed to show her. Tentatively, she leaned into him, placing a slow kiss onto his lips, the answer he had been searching for. As if the flood gates had opened, he swept her up against the wall, a flurry of hands and unsure lips. It was nearing midnight, and the two laid tangled together on the couch. No words had been spoken in hours, only the praises of two human beings occupying a rare moment in time. Her fingers pressed idly on his chest, she felt his heart rate increase. She knew that time was up, and instinctively pushed herself away from him, granting him access to leave. “I don’t want to go.” He whispered as he sat up, placing his head in his hands. “But if I don’t make it back before midnight the Commission…” “Will turn you into a pumpkin? Or worse?” He peered up at her and cringed. “They’ll send someone after me. Then it will probably be worse.” He dragged himself from the couch, collecting his clothes from the floor. “Sorry I didn’t have a whole lot to say tonight.” He looked at (Y/n) sympathetically, as she wrapped herself in a blanket. “Well, I think you said plenty,” she blushed as she marveled at him, noting that he was a bit leaner and built, apparent in the ease with which he lifted her from the floor just hours before. He leaned down and kissed her, fighting back tears, and began unlatching the case beside the couch. “You’re not angry that I have to leave?” she looked down at him, his somber expression breaking her heart. She knew that somehow this was hurting him more than it hurt her. “Of course not. You have a job to do. I know you’ll always come back to me” “Okay….I’ll see you soon, check the dates.” In a flash he was back at the Commission, back pressed to the wall. He wished he could have told her that his devastation was from watching her wedding, again, and how he wished that it was him instead: it would be selfish to ruin this for her. The knowledge that she could never be his made it even more painful. He wiped the tears from his eyes, and peeled himself from the floor.
The shower had stopped running, bringing a thick silence to their sometimes shared home. Five walked out of her bathroom wrapped in a towel, and found his way to the couch, collapsing in an exhausted heap. (Y/n) brought him his coffee and sat down beside him. “So….” She started, unsure of what to say. There usually wasn’t a lull in conversation, but things had been mostly quiet for her, and she surmised, for him as well. “I’ve pinpointed the day when the world ends. All of my calculations appear to point at the same date. I just don’t know the why or the what.” He frowned, rubbing his freshly shaved cheek. “What year did you come from?” She stared down at the vortex she had created in her coffee. “Still 2032. I think I’ve managed to sync everything back up. We’re in the same timeline now, I’m just coming from…a little further ahead.” He frowned. Her hand reached out to clasp his slightly weathered hand, touch starved after months of waiting. “You changed your hair?” Taken aback by his change of subject, she recoiled, running her fingers through her hair. “Oh, yeah. I dyed it a couple of weeks ago.” “Fascinating…it suits you. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it like this before.” He replaced her fingers with his own and she exhaled, reveling in his touch. “All these numbers and figures, and I never even think about how you might be different when I see you.” Eyes pressed firmly shut, “It’s all I ever think about. How someday, you’ll come back, and decide I’m not beautiful anymore. Or you think I’ve gained weight, or my hair isn’t quite right or…” Five cut her off, placing his finger over her lips. “You have nothing to worry about. I feel sorry for YOU,” he emphasized. “I’m getting old and haggard, and you’re even more beautiful than the day I married you.” His strong hand guided her towards him, placing a firm but loving kiss on her lips.
(Y/n) sat in front of a mirror as her best friend adjusted her veil. A frown plastered her face. “I don’t think I should do this, I mean, we’ve only been together for six months. It’s kind of a whirlwind, don’t you think?” Fingers busied themselves nervously with the delicate beading of her dress, arguably one that wasn’t even remotely her style. (Y/f/n) swiveled her chair to meet her eyes. “This is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, you have to stop trying to talk yourself out of it. You finally have a man that won’t go disappearing on you, it’s literally the best thing that’s ever happened to you.” (Y/n)’s eyes welled up with tears. “But what if he comes back? What if he comes back and I’m married to someone else? I don’t know if I could live with myself.” “Five isn’t coming back. The Umbrella Academy assholes are all maladjusted, miserable people. You know this just as well as I do.” She shot back bitterly. “Just because you and Diego didn’t get a happy ending, that doesn’t mean I can’t.” Her friend passed her a tissue, expression softening. “I’m sorry, (Y/n). I’m not trying to be hard on you, I know this is a stressful day. But this is what it is. This is your happily ever after! Let’s celebrate!” She handed her a champagne flute, and toasted the bride and her bridesmaids. As she sipped her champagne, she began to wonder if Five had ever loved her at all, considering he had never said those words in any exact capacity. Maybe he simply felt comfort in her presence. Her fiancé never missed an opportunity for those words to pour from his lips, like a slow, miserable drip from a leaky pipe. He was even accepting of the fact that she did not want to sleep with him before the wedding, completely oblivious that the only reason was that the thought of another man touching her made her feel sick. Pachelbel’s Cannon in D began playing throughout the garden, and she felt her chest tighten. This wasn’t the song she wanted, but her fiancé was incredibly traditional. She chose to have no one give her away, so she would take this long walk to the altar completely alone and exposed. Her fiancé wasn’t particularly pleased with that either. Plastering on some semblance of a smile, she strode slowly, taking in all of the faces in the crowd, doing her best to not look up at the groom. She knew it wouldn’t be the absentee man of her dreams, the one she had loved since she was 12. No, that man was lost in the aether of time, with an important job of maintaining order in a world made of entirely chaos. This would be as good as it could possibly get. There was nothing wrong with her fiancé per say: he was handsome, had an excellent job and most importantly, was there all the time. Unlike Five, who could only offer middle of the night trysts where fevered hands did the talking, those fleeting moments he could break away from the Commission without being caught. Nights where he couldn’t utter a single word to her, since any moment speaking would be a moment his lips weren’t on hers. The moments that she knew he was a ship without an anchor, the only thing holding him to those hours in time were his desperate hands clinging to her. None of those stolen moments mattered anymore. Her feet planted firmly in front of the man with whom she had every intention of spending her life, she took a deep breath. The string quartet stopped. Cicadas began singing as the sun set. “Does anyone with us today have a reason why these two should not be joined in marriage? Speak now or forever hold your peace.” A bright blue light illuminated the middle of the aisle. “I do.” Five stood there in a slick black suit, looking as though he had just come from a day of work at the Commission. His jaw tense, he stood for a moment as the realization dawned on everyone in the audience. “Oh hell no,” her maid of honor stepped in front of her, “who the FUCK do you think you are? Showing up today of all days, after MONTHS of radio silence. You have DESTROYED her, give her this chance to make it right.” He closed distance, and couldn’t help but laugh to himself at the dumbfounded look on the groom’s face. He probably didn’t even know about them. “Don’t speak for her. (Y/n), please hear me out…I love you. I’ve loved you since we were kids. I should have said it sooner. I couldn’t stand by and watch the love of my life marry someone else, not without telling you my piece first.” Her expression was blank underneath her veil: there was no reading the myriad of emotions she was feeling. She stepped in front of (Y/f/n), placing her hand gently on her shoulder, giving her a knowing nod. Gently, she swept the veil away from her face, and crossed her arms, as if wordlessly telling him to continue. Five swallowed hard. “The Commission was testing me…They’ve sent me to this moment in time over and over again. I’ve watched you be with someone else no less than a dozen times now, and I can’t do this anymore. The first night we-“ he paused, deciding better than to bring up the events of that particular evening”…this is where I came from. I had just watched you marry him, and it broke me.” “But the timeline….the variables, the rules?” She gestured vaguely. “Fuck the timeline, and fuck the Commission. I quit. Nothing in this world is worth it to watch you end up with someone else. Maybe that’s selfish, maybe I’m an ass.” He shrugged, and she did not respond. Peering around the room at the attendants, they all seemed to be weighing what was going to happen next. Five stood in front of her, placing his hands on the sides of her face. “I’m a terrible romantic, always have been, but here it goes. I can’t promise you that things will be stable. Hell, I can’t promise that they’ll even be good. But I promise you, there is no one in any timeline, in any reality, anywhere, that will love you more than I do.” In a swift motion, he dropped to his knee. “Let’s get married instead, (Y/n). You and I.” Gasps and murmurs erupted from the crowd, as she turned her back on him and walked up to her groom, still dumbfounded at the altar. “Sorry…” she said in almost a whisper, removing the ring that she never particularly liked from her finger and placing it gently in his palm. From this vantage point, Five could not make out what was happening, but watched the groom’s expression change from shock to defeat. He found that he couldn’t move, frozen in time, with baited breath. (Y/n) turned on her heels, looking at the man kneeling on the floor. “Five…stand up.” She put her hands out, helping him up. “Are you ready?” His confusion was apparent. “Ready for what?” “To marry me, dumbass. This is all already paid for, if we’re going to do it, let’s do it right now.” She threw her arms around his neck. “This is all I’ve ever wanted. Marry me, Five?” Nodding, he nervously fumbled around in the pocket of his dress pants. “You’re going to think I’m crazy, but I bought this ring in 1921 in Paris on one of my first jobs with the Commission…I’ve had this for years…”He placed in on her finger, their hands steadying one another. “I’ve always known that it had to be you.” The ceremony was filled with laughter and tears, despite the grand exit of nearly half the attendants when the bride dumped the groom at the altar. The event was postponed for an hour, so Five could contact his family to attend. The reception roared into early evening marked by jovial alcohol consumption. “I know I’ve been asking a lot of big questions today, but I have one more thing I need of you, Mrs. Hargreeves.” Five murmured in her ear, surrounded by people on the dance floor. “Anything, for you. What do you need?” She replied back as seductive as she could. “I need you…” he nipped at her neck …”to….” He peppered kisses along her jaw. “cut the Commission tracking device out of my arm.” “The ACTUAL fuck, Five???” She screeched, slightly tipsy. “Yep, then we throw it in the river. After that I’m completely yours. I’ll finally be able to wake up next to you.” Weighing her options, she nodded. “Let’s do it.” The pair snuck into the bathroom of the reception hall, stumbling and giggling. He removed his dress shirt and flung it over the top of the bathroom stall door, removing a small thin blade from a holster around his ankle. Kneeling near the sink, he draped his arm over the drain, placing the blade in her hand. “You know how much I love you, right, Five?” She eyed him nervously. “I’ve always known. I love you, too. Now let’s get on with this, I’m going to need another drink after this.” He pointed at the spot on his arm, indicating the location of the tracking device. (Y/n) gently pressed the tip of the blade into his arm, creating a small incision. A sudden, sharp breath escaped his lips as he took the blade from her, digging out a small pill shaped device from his forearm. He applied a butterfly bandage, and pulled his button up back on. “Let’s start our happily ever after.”
“So I’ve been making all of these calculations, right?” (Y/n) pulled his clothing out of the dryer and tossed it on the couch. He began getting dressed, since he knew he reasonably only had a few more minutes until he had to go back. “And since I know the exact date, my plan is to travel to just a week before, and see if I can nail down the cataclysm that causes the apocalypse. I’ll have to connect with my brothers and sisters…” She stared at him with exhausted eyes. “So if you can prevent it, maybe we can actually go back to having a normal life?” “I think so. We can finally settle down, I can assemble the bookshelves for all the books I’ve been stealing from the Academy and stashing over here, breakfast, lunch, and dinner together every night…and maybe…” “Maybe what, Five?” He turned towards her, smirking. “We can finally start a family?” a guffaw escaped her mouth, as her hands flew up to cover it. “Five Hargreeves, wanting to be a family man? I thought you ‘never wanted to bring kids into this world’ and ‘didn’t want to risk them having powers and ruin their lives’.” He shrugged. “I don’t know. I guess living through the apocalypse has given me some perspective.” His hands rubbed together rapidly, as he prepared to travel back, knowing this version of himself couldn’t remain here permanently. “I’ll see you the week before the Apocalypse, okay?” He disappeared in a haze of blue once again, and (Y/n) collapsed on the couch.
Just a few blissful years: that was all they were able to squeeze out of their marriage, before the Commission inevitably caught wind of their location. The tall blonde woman, the Handler, had appeared in their front yard, ready to strike up a deal with Five. He had two options: stay in the present, and himself and (Y/n) would be killed at a date of the Commission’s choosing. Be sent to the future and continue work for the Commission, and they would allow them both to live. Little did he know that his punishment would be far worse: they provided him a faulty briefcase, their particular method for time travel, which led to him being stuck in time. The years he spent in the Apocalyptic wasteland allowed him to regain some of his strength, and he began the time leaps that brought him back to (Y/n) in various parts of the timeline.
The final date marked on her calendar in bright red marker had arrived. “This is the last one,” she murmured to herself. “Now if the world could just not end in a week, that would be great…” Nervously, she adjusted the delicate ring that Five had gotten from Paris technically nearly a century ago. A tingling in her scalp alerted her to an intense feeling of dread that had suddenly taken root: something bad was about to happen. Maybe just the impending doom of the apocalypse, maybe something else. She was started by a knock at the door. “Well at least I know it’s not Five, since he’d just poof into the room.” She swung the door open, “Can I help….you….?” “This is bad, (Y/n). This is really bad.” Five stood before her in his school uniform: the very same he had worn when they had first met. She peered down at the young teenager before her. By all appearances, it was just some gangly fifteen year old kid, certainly not her husband; unfortunately, she knew better. Some things about him stayed exactly the same: his eyes, the timbre of his voice, the way he stared at her when he was panicking. “Something was wrong in my calculations…I’m stuck like this and I can’t jump.” “Oh…..Oh, God….”
