Sometimes when I'm birdwatching
#sometimes when i’m birdwatching#birds#bush#because i love them#this one is a little dude#which you can tell from the dark iris#a local birder#who has since passed away#used to like to tell people#that the smallest bird in our area#isn't a hummingbird#a costa's or allen's hummingbird#fits into a smaller space than a bushtit#bob would say#but what really matters#is mass#a hummingbird is compact and dense#relatively speaking#while a bushtit is mostly fluff and attitude#also#courage#there is no braver bird in the world#everything wants to eat bushtits#but they don't skulk in the thickets#or stick to the relative safety of the canopy#they live in the danger zone#taunting terrestrial predators#flitting past birders#living their lives fully and joyously in the moment#really they're the best birbs
