imagine how insane the shenanigans would have been if corrine had died and christopher, sr. had raised the kids by himself. cuz you know that man would try to replace corrine with cathy. and of course chris, jr. would be doing the same but having to compete with their father for cathy’s love and attention. meanwhile, carrie and cory are growing closer and closer and closer as the rest of their family becomes ever more insanely obsessed with one another… and cathy, never having grown disillusioned with her mother, compares herself unfavorably to corrine’s perceived perfection and comes to hate herself for not living up to it, for not literally being corrine… damn, none of these kids ever had a chance, did they?

flowers in the attic is soooo good what the fuck. i just watched the 2014 movie and i need to read the book now, because i have so many thoughts about it and i KNOW the movie doesn't do justice to the book.

i just can't stop thinking about how it's slowly revealed that everything that happens to the kids is rly the result of generations of trauma and abuse...wow. they were really doomed from the moment they born. it's tragic, but so beautifully written.

also i love the commentary about purity culture that's clearly happening. like the grandmother literally from day one treating cathy and christopher even looking at each other as inherently sexual even though they're LITERALLY SIBLINGS...she acts like she's protecting them from sex but really she's the one even putting the thought into their heads. all the stuff about sexual desire being sinful and seeing boy + girl + same room together = sex is textbook purity bullshit that we see in the real world all the time. it reminds me of how i could never have male friends growing up without my parents or other adults screaming about how it was inappropriate and sexual.

i just know i'm going to be thinking about this movie for a long time, and even longer if i end up reading the book. there's just something really tragic and powerful happening in this story. i love it. also as proud wincestie i can see where a lot of wincest tropes got their start from, because flowers in the attic is kind of the Ultimate Claustrophobic Incest Story and the whole romance being based around the kids being forced into isolation together is soooo wincest of them. or maybe, i should say, sam and dean being forced into isolation together is soooo cathy/christopher of them?? idk. all i know is i love it

finally got around to actually finishing this, this series will be with me the rest of my life. You either read or watched flowers in the attic and were repulsed by it or embraced it lol. thank you to the Borgias for bringing me back to this series.

ô meu amor ☹️ eu não vou nem te falar que não dá pra entender um negócio desse pq eu me sinto bem assim sobre várias coisas na minha vida tbm mas ☝🏽 há coisas pra gente pensar

acho que as principais são que 1) não existe uma linha do tempo fixa pra tudo e todos na vida, cada um vive do seu jeito e tem suas primeiras experiências no seu tempo; uma pessoa pode fazer a primeira graduação aos 50 anos, se casar aos 75, aprender a ler com 30, ter o primeiro beijo depois dos 25 e assim vai, 2) a gente sempre vai sentir que tem mais coisa pra fazer e principalmente que a gente tá em falta/atraso se a gente se compara com os outros, você por exemplo se sente assim por nunca ter beijado, eu tbm me sinto por nunca ter transado aos 25, tem gente que já fez os dois e se sente assim por nunca ter namorado, outros que já fizeram tudo mas se sentem assim por nunca terem tido a experiência de, sei lá, ter um ménage... tá entendendo? se comparar com o desenvolvimento dos outros sempre nos leva a esse ciclo infinito de se sentir menos, 3) tudo bem você não ter tido essa experiência! e tudo bem também se demorar mais alguns anos ou nunca tiver! a vida não se resume às nossas experiências amorosas/sexuais (e também meio que nada é real ou importa mas não sei se esse papo é mto niilista pro blog mas enfim) porém ☝🏽 4) eu sei que é utópico a gente imaginar que NUNCA vai se importar com essas coisas até por causa da sociedade que a gente vive que faz isso ser parte importante do nosso desenvolvimento social né, então se vc quer ter essa experiência, se joga! se for mais difícil pra vc, treine ir avançando aos pouquinhos até chegar nessa etapa, tem vários métodos e formas diferentes que isso pode acontecer. o importante é se lembrar que não tem NADA de errado com vc (mto menos é um monstro!) por isso e nossas chances e esperanças só acabam quando a gente morre; 25 ainda tá longe de morrer ainda então viva a sua vida do seu jeito e no seu tempo minha diva 💖

listening to flowers in the attic audiobook for the first time and oh MY GOD chris feeling left out when cathy was holding the twins in the rocker wanting to be father. and now they’re both the twins’ mother and father. i am emotionally compromised! this is the most sweetest moment thus far. corey’s near death experience making them grow up also making me cryyyy. 💔💔💔
