I don’t need to write meta on all the things that have already been discussed like: Travis being an obvious Dean mirror: the jacket, the duffel bag, the whisky, the chain (samulet), the worried sibling (the self destructive side)... Or the old singular vs. plural thing (”you don’t get to have a choice. We -”)...

Or the fact that this episode was all about half measures and the definition of telling the truth: Dean doing what he has been all season: trying. He comes clean with some but he still withholds. It is not lying but it is also not the whole truth.

He tells Sam what he knows about Jack. He tells him SOME of his conversation with Cas. (Yet neither we nor Sam know what's really been said.) He tells Sam about his conversation with Billie but he does not mention that Billie said she told Jack “the truth” - that for true forgiveness (from Dean/”all he wants is your forgiveness”/”was I wrong?”), he has to die. She asks if that is the truth. Dean neither agrees nor disagrees. Dean does not tell Sam that Billie’s plan includes Jack’s death because of that. He leaves it out - which is not lying. He has also never told Sam that he saw little Sammy in that pile of children’s bodies. Neither then nor now. It is also Caitlin first not telling Sam and Dean why she called...

There are two other things, though that peaked my interest. First, the whole IT 2 parallels. To me, it is so blatantly obvious. This is not a call-out. I think it was very well done. I also don’t wanna go into IT 2 meta… it is just… too much. Missing children, revisiting childhood trauma, a supernatural evil force that plays mind games and keeps a nest… BUT the scene that made me go “oh!” was when Dean enters room 214 and the Baba Yaga makes him “fall back” into that warehouse. It reminded me of the scene in IT 2 when Eddie goes to the pharmacy and he ends up - in his mind - in the basement, finding his (abusive yet worshipped) mother (parental figure). The only way he manages to escape (this dream world) is by leaving his mother behind. The characters were also made go back to Derry (place) 27y later (“this was like, what, 25 years ago?”) after one of them committed suicide (Stan) - after “they thought they killed it”. This is a very rough cut of IT 2 meta…  -  go see for yourself. I don’t think the resemblance was an accident. And this truly deserves its own meta post but I want to focus on something else.

I am sure I am not the only one who was thrown off by that “jokey” weed smoking bong scene (right before Dean “falls” into his past with the Baba Yaga). It felt too cheap and because Davy Perez praised Meghan Fitzmartin, it made me think there was more to it - knowing he has a thing for blatant throwbacks (see 15x15), it made me go down a weird road. 

Don’t ask me why but I do remember the last time we’ve had Sam+weed which was 11x19. Well, that dialogue stuck:

 Dean: Green eyes, buzzing. Weed alone doesn't conjure up that kind of scenario. Isn't that right, Sam? Sam: Dude, I was 18. Dean: [smiling] Sinner. Sam: It was college. It was probably oregano anyways. Dean: Rebel. Sam: You're an idiot.

But what did not stick was what episode it was. When I looked it up, I was like “oh…!”. It is just too much of a coincidence for me to overlook. I feel a bit like a crazy person but knowing spn and their writers… nothing is coincidental.

So, what WAS 11x19. That’s right: It was the episode with the gay hunters. I don’t want to repeat everything that’s been said about this episode. I bet there is a year’s worth of meta reading about it. A summary: motw, two brothers - one of them gay - going fishinig (!), mysteriously disappearing people/children, a nest, a recap including Amara (and Cas), a supernatural force taking kids/people, one brother losing the other and not getting over it; a gay hunter couple (retiring).

This whole ep is so much - and all the parallels... Again, not doing 11x19 meta here… just…Dean paired with gay hunter, trauma, missed funerals and revenge....

S11 Dean asking “What’s it like, settling down with a hunter?”/ “Two hunters that make it to the finish line? Yeah, you leave that alone.” vs S15 Dean encouraging Sam&Eileen... Both eps end with them driving... I don’t really have a conclusion for this, sorry. This is rather rambly... It basically speaks for itself (I hope). I just wanted to shed some more light on the meta and throwback aspect of it all ... full circle...

Aquí es lo que dijo sobre la pesca con el al final de la jornada: "En 4 horas de pesca con la Barriguita tuve más ataques que en toda mi vida! Los lucios no renuncian hasta que se lo traguen.
