Pairing - Baekhyun x fem reader -> exes to lovers | Genre - Angst, fluff | warnings - none | taglist - @twancingyunhoe @trashlord-007 @tiddy-boys | synopsis - when Baekhyun and you broke things off a year ago, it felt alright, but you came to the painful realization that nobody could ever replace him or love you like he did | word count - 2.1k | thanks to @tiddy-boys for beta-reading ♡
》><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><《
It's days like these, rain hitting the window in harsh taps and angry wind blowing, when the nostalgia hits the hardest. After all, you were always one to dwell on the past. It's just what you do.
Every day felt the same after the two of you broke things off. You don't even remember why exactly you even ended it in the first place. The pain still sits deep, coming to haunt you when you least expect it.
Rainy days like those just trigger the nostalgia, the memories and bygone feelings.
It's 12pm when you check your phone, yet you're still laying in bed. The lack of motivation due to this sudden wave of sadness is something you're not experiencing for the first time.
And it's killing you slowly. These feelings are eating you up from the inside out.
Without even realizing, tears are running down your cheeks in even, salty streams.
"Why am I even crying…" You mumble and lift your arm to cover your face, trying to make it stop. "God, I'm so pathetic"
You try to manage to stop your tears, wrist harshly rubbing your eyes. After a minute or so, you succeed in stopping them.
instead pick up your phone, unlocking it and opening Instagram.
One peek won't hurt, right…?
His name at the top of your searches seems to be mocking you as you hover your finger above it. Should you really do it? What if he found someone new and his profile is filled with couple pictures? Or what if he feels nothing and is glad to be alone? What if, what if, what if…
"Fuck it" you hiss and tap on his username, his profile popping up after a brief second of loading the page.
He… hasn't posted anything for a few months, his last post being from October last year.
Oh for fucks sake… is this a good sign or not? It could mean he's been seeing someone new, but it could also mean he's just been living his life like usual.
So many possibilities, yet no resolution seems to be in sight.
"This is so annoying, oh my gooood" You groan and smack your head into your pillow, laying sprawled out like a star with an annoyed pout on your face.
"It's been a god damn year," You grumble, "why do I still feel like this?"
The sound of your fist hitting the mattress of your bed is dull, not the way you wanted it to sound. "I hate this, UGHH" The frustration in your voice is for sure loud and clear, accentuated well by the 'ugh'.
This whole situation is stressing you out. "I need a shower.." You mumble, absent-minded, as you fling the covers back and swing your legs over the edge of your bed.
—
Despite the gloomy weather, you decided to take a walk outside. The rain still hasn't let up, droplets of it occasionally hitting your face.
"Why is it so cold today? It's already spring…" You mumble quietly to yourself, eyes strictly trained on the path in front of your feet and head held low.
You're so lost in your thoughts, you don't see the person headed your way.
And apparently, the person doesn't seem to notice you as well. So your shoulders collide and you stumble, umbrella falling out of your hand and fast quick steps to regain your balance.
"I'm so sorry! Are you al-" The man rushes to apologize, but his words get stuck in his throat as he takes in who he just, quite literally, stumbled into.
Rain has hit you mercilessly, soaking you from head to toe within seconds as you stand there, paralyzed. "Baek…Baekhyun?"
His eyes are wide and mouth slightly open in shock as he doesn't know what to say or do.
He hasn't seen or talked to you in at least nine or ten months for sure. What is he even supposed to say? "Yeah… it's- it's surely been a while" he dumbly answers. "Ah! Your umbrella!" Baekhyun rushes to pick it up and hold it over your figure.
But the damage is already done.
You're shivering, dripping with water but still you've a tiny smile on your lips at the sight of him.
You delicately take hold of the handle, fingers gently enclosing around the man's hand.
He doesn't move to let go, just standing there and staring into your eyes. "I-"
You cut him off by mistake with a sneeze, the cold creeping in deep. It feels like your bones might freeze, grasp around both Baekhyun's hand and the handle of your umbrella tightening, muscles contracting to desperately stay warm. "S-Sorry for interrupting you" You say, teeth clattering and eyes averting.
"No no don't worry about it!" He insists, "but we should get you home, your hand is cold as ice, Y/N"
"Ah… you're right" You nod and he flashes you a warm smile.
"Do you still live in the same apartment or did you move?" Baekhyun asks, back to being concerned about your wellbeing now.
"I- I still live in the same place" You reply, your free hand holding onto your jacket for warmth, but in vain.
"That's too far away, my place is way closer" He objects and gently pulls you along, "come on, let's get you freshened up before you really get sick"
You only manage an awkward nod and let him lead you along, a surprisingly pleasant silence engulfing you two.
—
Baekhyun unlocks the door to his apartment and firstly puts both of your umbrellas away, taking off his wet shoes in the process and you follow along.
"Come on, I'll show you the bathroom" He says and you tag after him.
He opens the door, turns on the light and quickly pulls out two towels for you. "You can just use my shampoo, I don't have anything suitable here for you, sor-"
"Thank you" you break his rambling. "You wouldn't need to do this, so thank you"
Baekhyun smiles softly, although his eyes tell a different story. "I'll bring you some clothes in a bit, okay?"
"Mhm" you nod and give him a curt bow before he leaves the room, shutting the door behind him.
You waste no time in stepping out of your soaked clothes and into the shower.
You set the water to a nice warm temperature and rinse off the cold first, feeling relieved.
Then there's a knock. "Hey Y/N, I'm putting some clothes on top of the washing machine for you now" he announces before opening the door, doing as he said and then leaving just as quickly as he came.
"Still the considerate guy he always was…" You mumble with a sad smile, old memories coming back to haunt your mind with sweet images of the two of you. Him always knocking before he'd enter a room you would be in to announce himself.
You loved that about him, he was always mindful of others and you're happy to see it hasn't changed at all.
—
You finished quickly and put on the clothes he gave you. Some boxers and a way too big on you, black shirt. You dried your hair as best as you could with the towel he gave you and made sure you don't look like a lion by patting down your hair a bit.
"Baekhyun?" You timidly call out after opening the door a bit.
"Yeah?" He replies and you hear his footsteps approach. "What is it?"
"Uhm- Where to put my wet clothes?" You ask.
"Oh- Hold on, I'll put them in the washing machine" He says with big eyes and opens the machine for you to put them in. "I'll dry them after they're washed so you can change back, alright?"
You nod quickly and thank him quietly. He opens the machine and you put your clothes inside, him doing the rest.
"So, uh-"
"Do you want some water?" He quickly asks, ears flaring red as he avoids your eyes.
"Sure" you squeak back and follow him into the kitchen. He gets a glass out of a cupboard and fills it with water before handing it to you.
You nip at the liquid as Baekhyun leans against the countertop adjacent to you, eyes taking in your figure.
He missed seeing you in his clothes, you always looked so good in them. He just missed you in general.
The reason why the two of you broke up a year ago?
Baekhyun remembers it all too well.
It was a work related thing actually. The two of you worked in different shifts and barely saw each other, yet alone had time for any couple stuff.
Free days? Spent alone or arguing about never seeing each other.
And at one point you had said to just break up. In that moment Baekhyun felt like he was hit by lightning, body stiff and eyes wide. He couldn't believe what he heard. Baekhyun felt anxiety cursing through his veins as his brain processed your words.
You had told him that you wouldn't hate him, but that your situation at that time just didn't allow any dating. The two of you never had hard feelings about the outcome, but it was hard to suddenly go back to being alone.
And now you're here, in his apartment, wearing his clothes and smelling just like him. He can't believe this is happening.
"Uhm, so" You speak up after setting the glass down on the other counter behind you. Your hands come up to grab the surface besides your waist and you avoid the man's eyes.
"Yes?" Baekhyun can't help the hopeful hint in his voice as he urges you to continue your thoughts.
"How has life been for you?"
A chuckle escaped his lips at your question, shoulders jumping up and down in the process before he answered. "It's been rather boring but nice, if you get what I mean? I found a different job and work from home now"
You nod quietly, "I've also found a new job and my shifts are less hectic"
"Have you… found someone new?"
You halt at his inquiry, gears in your mind temporarily stopping and he seems to take the lacking answer the wrong way. A frown pulls at his normally friendly and soft expression, making him look grumpy and bothered. "I see"
"No, no! I- I haven't found anyone!" You quickly say, "I just… I couldn't move on"
His expression changes to a sad smile, although he's kind of glad you're still somehow his. "Me neither"
You scoff lightly, a cheeky smirk suddenly on your face. "No wonder, nobody could put up with your annoying ass anyway"
"Hey!" He exclaims in shock.
"I'm joking, I'm joking!" You insist, holding your stomach and laughing. "You're bearable most of the time"
"That doesn't make it any better!" Baekhyun whines and you laugh out loud, hand flying up to cover your mouth.
"Still the cocky little girl you've always been" He fires back and you snort.
"Like you're one to talk" You roll your eyes at him and he exhales through his nose.
His hands grab you by the collar of his shirt you're wearing and unexpectedly pull you into him. You squeal, hands shooting up to brace against his broad chest and you look up to be met by his cocky smile. "You never knew when to stop, no change at all there" he playfully nags.
"Shut up" You weakly fight back.
Baekhyun chuckles and you feel the rumble drumming against the palms of your hands. "How come you haven't moved on?"
You lower your head, hands fumbling with his shirt. "Well… I came to the conclusion that just nobody could replace you. Nobody could love me like you did…" You mumble against his chest and Baekhyun feels a smile creeping up on his face.
"I felt the same" He whispers back and his arms move to pull you into him more by your waist.
After hearing that, you look back up at him with big eyes. "Really?"
He nods and flashes you a bright smile. "Even though we fought a lot and barely had time for each other, I never stopped loving you"
"Shut up" You almost whimper and move your hands to pull him closer by the back of his neck, lips meeting in the middle.
Baekhyun's eyes almost fell out of their sockets before he came to his senses.
One of his hands found its place on the back of your head as he moved his lips against yours with fervor. He greedily breathes you in, not wanting this to end as moves his mouth against yours.
You shiver when his tongue meets yours and that's when you draw the line… for now.
He chases after you for a second and you chuckle, dazed eyes meeting yours. "Slow down tiger" you say and peck the corner of his mouth.
"Okay, okay" He smiles and pulls you in for a hug, "will you let me love you again?"
"You bet"

got my number // jooheon
↪ PAIRING: Reader / Jooheon ↪ GENRE: slight angst > slight smut ↪ WORD COUNT: 2.1k ↪ SUMMARY: Jooheon wants to remind you that he’s the one you need, and you can call him any time…[inspired by this song]
When you realize, it ain’t him that's on your mind Baby, you got my number
ALL ABOUT LUV SERIES
It feels like divine intervention when Jooheon first spots you across the crowded bar. Firstly - he never goes out. Well, not really. He works hard but he usually forgets to play hard too. Secondly, you'd agreed to have zero contact since your...fling ended. The fling that ended because you decided to get a boyfriend out of nowhere. Thirdly, and most importantly; you were alone.
Although he's two drinks in he suddenly feels entirely too sober, the buzz of the alcohol gone like a cold splash of water to the face. His throat feels dry as he watches you talking to your girl friend whom he recognises but for the life of him can't remember her name. It appears as if it's just the two of you tonight. He wonders where boyfriend is tonight.
As far as Jooheon is aware your new relationship is alive and thriving. According to instagram, anyway.
His attention drifts away from you briefly as he orders another much needed drink. Beside him Changkyun is talking about something but Jooheon is barely listening, only nodding his head when he has to. The two boys move to a table that's all together too close to where you're sat. Jooheon has the sense to avoid staring.
Changkyun unintentionally sits with his back facing your table, meaning Jooheon and you are facing each other - albeit with several crowded tables separating the distance. "...and then I was like, you're going to fall! And lo and behold, Hyungwon fell into the pool."
His friend's laugh grounds Jooheon back to reality. He forces out a chuckle of his own. "Why am I not surprised?"
"He's too tall. Those long arms and legs get the better of him." Changkyun muses with a smirk as he sips his drink. "Anyway, how are you doing man? It's been a while."
It's the truth, Jooheon thinks feeling slightly guilty. After everything ended with you, unwilling to admit his heart may have been a tiny bit broken ( ego hugely bruised, however) he had thrown himself into work. If he thinks hard it must have been two months since the two men had met in person, which was unusual. Long hours at the studio had merged into one long blur.
"Yeah it has, I've been okay. Busy with work." Jooheon sighs. "It's nice to get out and have a drink though."
"Tell me about it." Changkyun grins. "Cheers to that."
They clink glasses and as if his vision is magnetised to you, Jooheon glances over again. You still haven't clocked he's in the same room as you. He isn't sure if he's annoyed or relieved. "How is the wife?" Jooheon asks teasingly, bringing his focus back.
"Oh god don't let her ever hear you use the ‘w’ word, she'd already desperate for me to propose." Changkyun groans, playfully rolling his eyes and Jooheon laughs. "I mean, I will, I'm just waiting for work to settle down."
"Fair, fair." He agrees with a sigh. A voice in his head says at least you have someone but he doesn't dare speak it aloud. "It won't be long now, surely?"
"Nah," Changkyun. "In a month or two, maybe."
"I'm happy for you."
"How's things on your end? Still no girlfriend since - "
"No." Jooheon cuts him off. It's too much to be in the same room as you and rehash painful memories with a friend who borderline pitied him. "A few good nights with people, but that's it."
Initially when you had broke things off with Jooheon it was so abrupt he almost believed you were joking, as did his friends when he shared the news. Things had been going so well between you, he could barely believe it. It was rare he could find someone who he was friends as well as lovers with. It was special.
His friends teased him, after all it was a casual thing (although Jooheon often looks back and wonders how many casual relationships last an entire year) so he wasn't expected to feel down.
No strings meant no hurt feelings. Everyone knew that. So in the six months you'd been with Mr New Guy, Jooheon hated that he hadn't bounced back yet. Hated how much he thought about you. Hated how you could discard him like a toy. Yet, he didn't hate you.
"It'll happen man, you'll meet someone don't worry." Changkyun assures but there's little weight to his words.
Jooheon hums something that's meant to be agreement but it sounds flat, even to him. As he sips his drink, his eyes catch yours. You're staring at him, a mixture of shock and surprise on your face. When you realise he's watching you give him a small wave, mouthing hi.
He nods his head and tips his drink to you. The action makes Changkyun crane his neck to see what his drinking partner was doing and why. "Oh," Falls from his lips. "y/n's here."
"She is most definitely here." Jooheon downs his drink in one.
***
This isn't how he imagined it would go. As the night draws closer and closer to an end you still have done nothing more than briefly acknowledge his existence. It's another kick to his bruised ego. He always thought if you saw each other again you'd end up tangled in his bedsheets like a day hadn't passed.
Changkyun excuses himself to the restroom and a desperate Jooheon uses this as an opportunity when he witnesses you make your way to the bar. He leaps up from his seat and crosses the room quickly. Your back is to him as he approaches you.
"Hi," He says lowly in your ear. "Fancy seeing you here."
"Jooheon." You give him what he knows is an uneasy smile. You're probably wondering if this is going to be a pleasant conversation or something much more bitter. "Hey."
"You look like you're missing something tonight." His eyes search yours as your face twists in confusion.
"Huh?"
"That new accessory of yours!" He says like it's obvious. "You know, that 180cm brown haired, boring puppy you drag around with you sometimes?"
Realization dawns across your face when it clicks he's insulting your boyfriend. "Ah, right. Yeah. Whatever Jooheon, make your digs at me. Get it out of your system."
"It's not a dig at you, darling." He throws you a sickeningly sweet smile. You roll your eyes. "Where is Mr Bland tonight anyway?"
"Working." You answer curtly.
"As usual."
He knows he's hitting a sore spot, it's no secret how much your man works. Jooheon had heard from one of your mutual friends it was something you had often complained about. "Don't act like you know what you're talking about."
"We both know I do." He leans in closer, the alcohol that's been consumed in the last few hours giving him far too much confidence. "How do you spend all those lonely nights in your bed hmm? Think of me?"
You blush and look away. "I'm not lonely." You reply unconvincingly. He raises a disbelieving eyebrow towards you.
"No?" He asks. "That's not what I've heard."
"Stop." You say and he knows in that moment just how correct he is in his assumptions.
"You don't have to be lonely." His hands grip your waist and swivel your hips around so your facing him, chest to chest against the wood of the bar. "You know where I am. Baby, you've got my number."
You stare up at him with large, unblinking doe eyes and in that moment he wants nothing more than to kiss the sadness he sees in them away. Fortunately he refrains. "I don't need your number anymore." Your words are weak and not entirely believable.
"He's gone a lot, isn't he?" Jooheon presses, gripping your familiar body tighter. Six months without you has been forgotten in an instant the second he touched you.
"Sometimes..." You look away. He gently tilts your chin with his finger forcing you to look back at him.
"Say the word. That's all you have to do." He tells you softly. "And I'll be there."
You look like you want to give in, he can see it written all over your beautiful face. "I..I can't."
He sighs. "Can't or won't?" You open your mouth to speak but Jooheon suddenly doesn't want to hear it. Neither answer will make him feel better at this point. "Actually don't answer that. I meant what I said, you've got my number. You know where I am."
Leaning down he gives you the briefest of pecks on the cheek before walking away, leaving you somewhat speechless and alone.
***
Every part of his brain is telling him that it's not a good idea and he knows when he wakes he'll feel foolish but still, that doesn't stop Jooheon from texting you when he arrives home that night. His bed feels lacking when he's in it alone, he misses you and he can't stop himself.
[from: jooheon 1.43am]: you know where I am.
He stares at it for a few seconds. It's the only exchange between both of your numbers, in a heated moment of anger months ago Jooheon had deleted everything else. Sometimes he regretted destroying the evidence of how much you had wanted him at one point.
As he's looking those three little tell tale dotes spring up at the bottom of the chat log. You're typing. You're typing. You're typing. His adrenaline spikes.
He watches and waits.
And waits.
The dots disappear and he feels a wave of disappointment. What did you want to say to him? He was dying to know. He waits a few seconds more hoping they will reappear but they don't. Jooheon tosses his phone carelessly somewhere on the mattress beside him. He tried, at least.
He's unsure how much time has passed, having drifted in and out of drunken slumber, when his phone pings. Groggily he reaches blindly for it in the sheets, squinting in the darkness to read the text. It's from you.
[from: y/n 2.37am] I fucked up, I know. You were right about everything tonight.
He rubs at his eyes as if to clear them, afraid he's seeing things or worse - dreaming.
[from: jooheon 2.40am] He's gone isn't he? And you're missing me
[from: y/n 2.40am] Yes.
[from: jooheon 2.41am] Yes to what part?
[from: y/n 2.41am] All of it. I wish you were here.
[from: jooheon 2.42am] why? Desperate for your first good fuck in 6 months?
[from: y/n 2.42am] You know I am
[from: jooheon 2.43am] And only I can fulfil that?
[from: y/n 2.43am] only you. I mean that exactly how you think I do.
He frowns, puzzled momentarily. If he didn't know better it sounded like you were regretting your decision to end things but he didn’t want to assume anything too quickly. As he's overthinking you do something that takes him aback. You call.
"You should be asleep." Is the first thing he says as he answers.
"So should you." You reply with a breathy chuckle. "I wanted to hear your voice. I'm sorry."
"It's nice to hear you." He yawns. "Even if I am being used as a substitute." His joke is a little too on the nose.
"I'm not allowed to miss you?"
"No, you are. Do you miss him?" He queries.
"Jooheon..." You whine.
"Tell me."
"Not as much as I probably should." You admit. "I miss you more and we were never even together."
"I call bullshit on that darling. We might not have put a label on it but we were together." Jooheon says firmly. How either of you could have deluded yourselves otherwise was insane. "Then you freaked because your parents pressured you and got with the first suit you could find. Let's be real here."
"In the spirit of being real, I guess I'd have to agree. Probably why I'm having so many second thoughts now." You sigh sadly.
"This doesn't have to be your fate forever. You can break up with him you know."
"I don't know if the only man that's on my mind would have me back." You say cryptically but you both know exactly what that means.
"He would if he was the only man in your life."
"Really?"
"Really. You'd have to make it up to me though." He teases, as a small smile tugs at his lips. Jooheon can't quite believe what he's hearing.
"You'd want me after everything I did?" You ask tentatively.
"I never stopped wanting you." He breathed. "Even after everything you did."
"Jooheon I don't deserve you." You say shakily. "Listen, give me some time to sort things out and maybe we can meet up? I'll call you?"
"I can wait. You've got my number don't you? Use it this time."

1. The third time she meets him, he surprises her at her farmhouse. Living such a remote lifestyle has been both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, she is free of the terrible judgement and fear that the townsfolk convey every time they lay eyes on her. On the other hand, it allows her far too much time to miss her life and family from the other realm – the life that Regina got to keep by default. She supposes eventually she’ll have to start thinking of this as the real world, not the other.
2. Now is not that time, and she permits thebitterness to linger. She will never be able to let go of the fact that she isworlds apart from her son. In the meantime, however, she has been keepingherself busy in setting up what appears to be the start of her ‘new life’. Herfarm has grown nicely, and now supports a few animals as well as the crops. Thetime she dedicated as Queen to learning about farming in order to be a betterruler is now paying off. Daniel would be proud.
3. She is mid-tending some of the vegetables, her knees covered in dirt and her hair piled high on top of her head, when avoice breaks the silence. ‘You don’t just use magic for that then, witch?’ Shestands quickly, fireball already in hand as she spins around. King Henry isperched atop his steed, looking more comfortable than her Henry had ever doneon the back of a horse. Her heart aches for lost riding lessons. ‘How did youfind me?’ she demands, lifting her chin proudly.
4. If this is a trap, she refuses to go downwithout a good fight, if not for herself than for Henry – she will not let herdeath be on his shoulders. No soldiers burst out of hiding for the momenthowever, and she turns her attention back to her visitor. He has gotten off hishorse, standing on the other side of the fence with one hand clenched aroundthe hilt of his sword uncomfortably. He has gotten so tall – she forgets. ‘Ithought you’d be using magic,’ he repeats.
5. She shrugs, unsure why he is focused on thispoint. ‘Living things like plants and animals respond better to a practicedtouch than magic,’ she offers, and if she closes her eyes, she can almostbelieve it is a Sunday afternoon with her own Henry, and they are talking inthe park. He always has a hundred and one questions to ask. This Henry justnods abruptly, his fingers loosening and then re-clenching around the swordhilt again.
6. ‘There have been many rumours about the EvilQueen and where she spirited herself off to,’ he explains, glancing off to theside. ‘I thought this one was a little farfetched, yet here you are. I’msurprised you didn’t leave, knowing that I want you dead. Or at least builtyourself a castle.’ She snorts at this, waving a hand at herself. ‘I’m notexactly a Queen any more,’ she shoots back. ‘Haven’t been, for a long time. Andeven if you want me dead, I won’t allow it.’
7. They are almost having a civil conversation, and she feels a terrible flicker of hope inside her. Then Henry – King Henry, she reminds herself – turns and pulls something out of a saddlebag, throwing itover the fence and at her feet. She bends down to pick it up before her braineven registers what it is. There, lying in the mud, is The Book. The Book with‘Once Upon a Time’ emblazoned across the front in gold lettering, the one withall their stories inside.
8. She lifts it up, opening it at a random pageand frantically riffling through. All the stories are still here, and when shereaches the back of the book, she lets out a sound halfway between a laugh anda sob. There it is, the creation of the wish and this world, her final showdownwith Regina, her arrival in this land, and then the story goes on, followingthe town’s run-in with some villain called the Black Fairy. Two things springinto her mind immediately.
9. Firstly, she hopes Henry is safe in this newbattle. And secondly, her story ends with her arrival here – clearly the Bookno longer takes an interest in her life. She really is gone from that world.‘It appeared suddenly in my chambers,’ Henry snaps, demanding her attentionagain. ‘I tried burning the wretched thing, and throwing it in a lake. Nothingworks. What sort of magic is this? It just keeps returning.’
10. She slams the book shut, stepping forwardto hand it back to him. He hesitates for a moment. ‘It is not from me,’ shetries to explain. ‘It must have found you because you are the author in thisworld. Perhaps it thought you needed to know these stories.’ He grabs the bookback, sneering at her. ‘It isn’t a sentient being,’ he rebukes. ‘It is a bookthat you have put a spell on. Do you really expect me to believe I am nothingmore than a creation from a wish?’
11. ‘I have memories of my grandmother andgrandfather – the people you killed! And my mother, Emma, and growing up herein the castle. Do you really think I would believe I came into existence a fewmonths ago, just because you decided to visit?’ She grimaces in the face of hisanger and incredulity. ‘I’m not asking you to believe anything,’ she throwsback. ‘I didn’t send you that book, and even if you kill me, it will keepreturning to you. It’s part of your destiny.’
12. He growls in annoyance, stomping his feetas he marches back to the horse and stuffs the book roughly into the saddlebag. She almost smiles at that – it is so similar to when her Henry had decided tohave a tantrum. ‘Regardless of which version killed them, you’re all to blamefor my grandparents’ deaths,’ he swings himself into the saddle and points downat her. She nods her head slowly in response. ‘I suppose I am,’ she agrees.
