treasure film days

For those who have not seen the treasure film, the boys had to do individual challenges and group challenges to "find" the treasure

The air crackled with nervous energy as the Ateez members gathered around a table in their Sydney hotel room. They had just received their 'Treasure Film' challenge sheets, a colorful array of tasks designed to test their courage, resourcefulness, and, of course, their comedic timing. It was their first time filming in Australia, and the vibrant energy of the city was infectious.

Ana, scanned the sheet, her brows furrowing. The tasks were a mix of daring and ridiculous, each matched to their individual personalities. San had to swim with sharks , Wooyoung had to ask a friend of her mom to give him food , and Mingi had to order some things in a pharmacy all by himself Ana’s eyes settled on hers: 'Skydive and take a selfie.'

Ana glanced at Hongjoong, their leader, who was carefully studying his own challenge, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He knew about her fear of heights, “Ana,” Hongjoong whispered, his voice laced with amusement, “You okay?” Ana swallowed, forcing a smile. “Just… thinking about it.” “I bet you’re going to be great,” he said, his voice laced with a reassuring confidence that calmed her a little.

A couple of hours later, the group gathered at the airfield, their nervous laughter echoing in the vast, open space. Hongjoong stood nearby, a watchful observer, a small smile playing on his lips as the cameramen began their preparations.

Ana sat at the edge of the runway, her heart pounding like a drum solo. The skydivers, clad in bright orange jumpsuits, seemed calm and collected, though their faces seemed to radiate a strange kind of madness.

“Ready, Ana?” the cameraman asked, his voice a little too chipper for the situation.

Ana’s knees trembled.

One by one, the skydivers climbed into the plane, their faces a mix of excitement and apprehension. When it was Ana’s turn, Hongjoong approached, his hand on her shoulder, his eyes twinkling.

“You got this,” he whispered, a reassuring squeeze before he stepped back.

Ana took a shaky breath as she climbed the ladder of the small plane, the cold wind whipping through her hair. The world shrunk beneath her as the plane ascended, the vast expanse of the land becoming a patchwork of greens and browns. Her stomach tightened, fear tightening its grip on her. This was crazy.

The wind hummed through the plane windows, and Ana, with her pale face and wet eyes, clung with all her might to the edges of the seat. Her heart was pounding like a maddened buffalo in her chest.

'Ana, are you ready?' The instructor's voice, a burly man with a smile too cheerful for the situation, echoed through the noise of the plane.

'No, no, no,' Ana let out a sob. 'Why are you doing me this? I pay you, I give you everything you want, but please don't make me jump. I'm not cut out for this kind of thing.'

'Don't worry, Ana. It's an incredible experience. Look at the view!' The instructor pushed her toward the open door of the plane.

Ana clung to the door for dear life, looking down in horror. The ground stretched like an endless chess board. Her stomach clenched as she saw the distance, and her legs began to tremble.

'I can't, I can't, I can't,' Ana whispered, tears threatening to overflow.

'What's wrong, Ana?' the instructor asked, a hint of concern in his voice.

'I'm afraid of heights,' Ana said, her voice shaking. 'I'm afraid of dying. I'm afraid of everything.'

'Don't worry, Ana. I'll be with you all the time. Come on, just a little jump!' The instructor pushed her lightly into the void.

'No! No! No!' Ana screamed, clinging to the instructor with a force that would have probably broken her bones.

'Ana, relax! It's just a jump!' The instructor, feeling a little uncomfortable with Ana's iron grip, tactfully tried to free himself from her. 'Besides, if you get off now, you can tell all your fans later,' he said with a wry smile.

Ana froze. His fans! The thought of the shame she would feel if her fans found out about her fear of heights filled her with a new terror, a terror even more intense than the fear of falling.

'It's okay,' Ana said, taking a deep breath. 'I'm going to do it, but… can you hold me tight and not let me fall?'

The instructor looked at her with a wry smile. 'Of course, Ana. I'm going to hold you very tight. Get ready for the adventure of your life!'

And with that, Ana, holding on to the instructor like a koala to a tree, launched herself into the void, screaming like a little girl. The wind whipped her face and the sound of her own scream echoed in her ears. Fear paralyzed her, but despite the terror, a small thought floated into her mind: at least her fear of heights would be a great story to tell her fans.

Ana took out her phone, her hands still trembling. She focused her lens on the breathtaking panorama and pressed the button, capturing the moment, the feeling of being alive, free, and conquering her fear. She had done it.

Back on the ground, she was greeted by laughter and cheers. The crew, the cameraman, the other Ateez members - even the skydiver who jumped with her – all seemed to be in on the joke, their faces lit by amusement.

“Ana!” Mingi cried, doubling over as he choked back a laugh. “Your face was priceless! Do you even realize how funny you were while falling?”

Even San, managed a chuckle, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “I knew you could do it, Uno,” he said, using his nickname for her.

Hongjoong just smiled, his eyes warmly admiring.

The air crackled with anticipation as Ana, Hongjoong, Yeosang, and Wooyoung stood in line at the concession stand, the smell of buttery popcorn and sugary soda filling their senses. This wasn't just any movie night; it was a challenge orchestrated by Hongjoong himself. He was dared to watch an entire English-language film without subtitles, a feat that seemed impossible considering his infamous sleepiness.

'I'm going to have to rely on the power of sheer will,' Hongjoong declared, his voice laced with a hint of nervousness as he surveyed the massive popcorn buckets. 'And this glorious sugary fuel.'

Wooyoung, ever the playful instigator, nudged him playfully. 'Don't worry, hyung. We'll all be your personal translators, even if they're just mumbled whispers in your ear.'

Yeosang, on the other hand, was surprisingly invested. He leaned towards the counter, his eyes scanning the menu with an almost academic curiosity. 'What kind of film did you choose, Hongjoong?'

'A classic,' Hongjoong said with a dramatic flourish. 'One that will truly test my limits.' He winked, 'Just wait till you see the trailer.'

The popcorn, a mountain of fluffy goodness, arrived, and they settled into their plush seats in the darkened theater. The crew had rented the entire space for their little experiment, a decision that felt both luxurious and strangely isolating. The lights dimmed, the opening credits rolled, and the story began to unfold.

The first few minutes were a blur of unfamiliar dialogues and foreign accents. Yet, Hongjoong, driven by his own challenge and an intrinsic need to prove himself, clung onto every spoken word, every dramatic inflection.

As the movie progressed, however, fatigue began to set in. His eyelids grew heavy, his head bobbing forward in an act of defiance against sleep. Around him, his friends succumbed one by one. Yeosang, with his usual quiet dignity, leaned against Wooyoung’s shoulder, his head resting against the soft fabric of his hoodie. Wooyoung, barely able to keep his eyes open, surrendered completely, his head drooping against the seatback, a slight snore escaping through his parted lips.

Ana, who had always been a light sleeper, managed to stay awake for a surprisingly long time, occasionally turning to Hongjoong with a concerned frown. But eventually, she too succumbed to sleep, softly snuggling up to Wooyoung, finding comfort in his warmth.

The rest of the film moved at a snail’s pace. Hongjoong, alone in a sea of slumbering faces, felt a mix of annoyance and pride. He’d lost count of how many times he’d had to fight the urge to close his eyes, to succumb to the comforting embrace of sleep. It was a mental battle, a testament to his determination. As the last image faded and the credits rolled, he finally let his head droop, defeated by the unrelenting fatigue.

He looked around at his friends, their faces peaceful in sleep. A gentle smile played on his lips as he observed Ana, curled up against Wooyoung like a sleepy kitten, Yeosang, comfortably slumped against Wooyoung’s side, and Wooyoung, fast asleep with a soft, rhythmic snore.

“Always the champions of sleep,” Hongjoong muttered to himself, his voice barely a whisper. He knew that his friends would feel a pang of embarrassment once they woke up

Ana stared at the camera, perched precariously on a stack of books on San's desk. It was supposed to be a simple 'good morning' message for Atinys, but the simple act of greeting their fans seemed to be turning into a comedy show starring only Ana.

'Good morning, Atinys!' she started, her voice bright and bubbly. 'It’s a beautiful day outside...' She glanced at the window, a thin sheet of rain lashing against the glass. 'Okay, maybe not a *beautiful* day, but it's a day nonetheless!'

The camera caught the faintest twitch of San’s eyebrow as he sat on his bed, his headphones on, completely engrossed in his phone. San was good about respecting her space, mostly. But this lack of interaction was a little... unnerving. Especially when she could feel his eyes on her every few seconds.

'Anyways,' she carried on, 'I hope you all have a wonderful day, full of sunshine and... and... well, I don’t know, anything you enjoy? I’m still trying to find my own sunshine.'

She sighed dramatically, leaning on her hand. This felt less like a greeting and more like a therapy session.

“Oh, and remember to eat breakfast, and drink lots of water,' she continued, suddenly serious. 'And if you’re feeling down, just remember… you’re not alone.”

She paused for a beat, then added with a mischievous grin, “Not literally, but you know what I mean.”

San finally looked up from his phone, a barely-there smirk playing on his lips.

Ana, emboldened by his amusement, decided to up the ante.

“Speaking of feeling down,” she said, gazing directly into the camera, “I’m feeling a little… under the weather.” She let out a dramatic cough, followed by a cough so fake even a five-year-old would know it was staged.

San, unfortunately, was not a five-year-old. He snorted, a sound that was half-suppressed laughter, half-choked disbelief.

“Why are you so… theatrical?” he grumbled, still staring at his phone but a hint of a smile creeping onto his face.

Ana pretended not to hear him, continuing with her performance. She coughed again, with theatrical flair, then leaned forward like she was about to reveal a shocking secret.

“Actually,” she whispered, her voice dropping to a dramatic whisper, “I think I’ve caught… the San-flu.”

San finally broke, throwing his head back and laughing. He was truly laughing, his shoulders shaking, a joyous sound that echoed through the room.

'I think you need to teach me some of your acting skills,' he said, his voice still tinged with amusement.

“I already did,” Ana replied, tilting her head with mock solemnity. 'That’s why you're always so dramatic.”

'San, do you think this is cute?' She showed him the recording, a grimace plastered on her face.

San burst out laughing. 'No offense, Ana, but that was, well, how do I say this politely… not quite 'cute'?' he chuckled. 'More like 'caffeine-deprived-zombie-trying-to-awaken-a-sleeping-giant'.'

Ana groaned. 'This is hopeless.'

'Don't say that!' San encouraged, his eyes sparkling. 'Look, just be yourself, alright? We love you, cringy moments and all. Just imagine you're talking to your friends.'

Ana contemplated his advice. 'Okay, maybe I can do this.'

Taking a deep breath, she began recording again. 'Good morning, Atiny! It’s Ana,' she started, her voice sounding more natural this time. 'I hope you’re having a great day.' She decided to channel her inner San and added with a chuckle, 'If you’re not, then don’t worry, you’re not alone. We all have those days. And remember, you’re all amazing!'

As she finished the message, her eyes darted to the clock. Only ten minutes left until the group message deadline! She quickly moved on to the next part, trying to think of something cute and memorable.

'Okay, how about this…' she muttered to herself, placing a hand on her cheek, pretending to be shy. 'Good morning, Atiny! Today is going to be amazing, just like you!'

A loud, snorting cough from the living room made her jump. She peeked through the door to see San clutching his stomach, tears streaming down his face.

'What?' Ana asked, bewildered.

“You're… you're channeling your inner-Mingi, dude!' San said between fits of laughter. 'Your facial expressions are priceless!'

Ana’s cheeks flushed red. 'Oh, no, I can't be caught dead trying to do a Mingi.'

San managed to compose himself, wiping his tears with a sleeve. “Okay, okay, how about this? Go for a simple, classic good morning. And maybe, just maybe… try a dance move? A little something for the fans.”

Desperate for a solution, Ana grabbed her phone and started scrolling through videos on TikTok.

'Oh! I got it!' she exclaimed, her eyes alight with an idea.

The camera started recording and she threw her hands in the air, mimicking a classic K-Pop move. But as she tried to execute the motion, her feet got tangled, and she stumbled, landing flat on the carpet.

A wave of laughter erupted from the living room. 'Ana!' San's voice rang out. 'Don't worry, I'm fine!' Ana called back, scrambling to her feet. “Just a little, uh, choreography malfunction.”

She decided to play it cool and finish the message, flashing a strained smile at the camera. “Okay, Atiny, I hope you have a wonderful day. See you soon, and always remember… you're all amazing!'

She uploaded the message and hurried to the living room, where the rest of ATEEZ were gathered, their faces a mix of amusement and concern.'You alright, Ana?' Yunho asked, his eyes filled with concern.'Yeah, just a few bumps in the road,' Ana replied, flashing a smile. 'But hey, at least it made San laugh.”San, wiping away a tear, nodded. 'Indeed. You know, Ana, for a girl who’s absolutely terrified of being cute… you’re a natural comedic genius.'

"Bae-Bae!" The two said together while making a heart with each other.

"Oh, Sunghoon," Yn pouted at the camera before looking at him.

He looked back, "What is it, Yn?" He questioned.

"We're not bae-bae today! I'm Barbie and you're Ken!" She expressed.

Sunghoon gasped before moving his arm like a robot, feeling embarrassed. "Oh my gosh, I forgot," he said, moving his arms, trying his best not to burst out laughing.

"Ah, Sunghoon, you're not an actual doll!" Yn said, shoving his shoulder.

He gave her a questioning look, "What do you mean? Who's Sunghoon? Barbie, I'm Ken!" He smiled.

She rolled her eyes playfully before looking at the card in her hand, then back at the camera. "Today we have some special comebacks and stages!" Yn said excitedly.

"That's right, we have Choi Yena, VCHA, 8Turn, (G)I-DLE, RIIZE, and more performances coming your way!" Sunghoon smiled at the camera.

Yn smiled and nodded at Sunghoon before turning to the camera, smiling herself. "But right now, let's enjoy Hui on the stage with his solo debut!" Yn ended as the camera stopped airing, and they waved goodbye.

"You can't even act like Ken without laughing. How do you think I feel pouting all the time?" She said, making him laugh.

"You gotta admit, I ate that arm thing up," he said.

She side-eyed him before shaking her head, "I fear you didn't. You left a lot of crumbs. The plate is still full! Did you even nibble at it?" She teased him, causing him to pout.

"You didn't have to go that far, YN! Come on, be nice to me. I bought you coffee yesterday!" He said.

"Yeah, you buying coffee is causing more rumors to stir up! Oh, I just remembered, tomorrow we're filming a video for the variety show," she said, remembering their task for tomorrow.

He hummed, "I wonder what they're going to do tomorrow," he said. "Do you want to go to your waiting room or mine?" He questioned.

"Mine!" She said, making him smile before opening her waiting room door.

The next day, Yn arrived in one car while Sunghoon arrived in another. They talked to the camera in their separate cars as the staff drove them both to the location.

"I honestly don't know what they have planned, but I'm sure it's going to be fun. But I'm kinda nervous," Yn said to the camera.

"Why are you nervous?" her manager asked.

"Manager Kim just seriously asked why I was nervous... because I'm scared. You guys are spooky with ideas. What if you guys take me skydiving or something? I'll actually cry on camera," she pouted.

They drove into an empty parking lot. "See what I mean? This place is empty. Are we doing a haunted house or something?" Yn whined as her manager laughed before another black car pulled up beside them.

"Okay, Yn, I'm gonna need you to cover your eyes, and I'll lead you outside the car and into the place," her manager said.

Yn squinted her eyes suspiciously at the woman before closing them. Her manager walked her out of the car and into the place. As Yn felt a sudden cold breeze, she started shaking a bit.

"It's cold in here, what the..." she cut herself off from finishing, not wanting to curse on camera.

She heard Sunghoon laugh right next to her, startling her as she still had her eyes shut tightly. "It's not that cold, it feels nice in here," he hummed.

She shook her head. "Can we open our eyes? Wait, Sunghoon, are your eyes closed?" she questioned him.

"Yeah, don't worry."

"3, 2, 1, open your eyes now!" someone shouted as Yn and Sunghoon both opened their eyes slowly before gasping.

They were at an ice rink. "No way!" Sunghoon smiled genuinely.

"No wonder it's freezing in here," Yn said before her manager put a coat on her as she thanked her.

Sunghoon kept smiling at the rink, making Yn a little creeped out. "Icey boy, get on the rink and stop smiling so weird!" Yn said, making Sunghoon laugh.

"Let me get my skates on first!" he said, sitting on the bench as her manager gave him skates. Yn joined next to him, putting skates on.

She sighed, "I've only skated a few times!" she whined to the camera, making Sunghoon smile.

"I've skated for almost a decade of my life. I love ice skating," he said, getting up.

Yn tried to follow him but kept wobbling over. "This is so embarrassing," she said as the camera caught her struggling on the ice rink.

Sunghoon was already skating around, smiling and laughing. Looking at him made her feel bubbly inside.

"Show-off!" Yn shouted as he skated by her.

He smiled, "Come on, take my hand so you won't hurt yourself," he said as she grabbed his hand.

She stayed as close as possible next to him, leaning on him like he was a part of her. "How do you do this shit?" she whispered to him.

"Come on, just do this," he said, showing her. She tried to follow, but she fell on her butt, making him laugh.

They played a few games on the ice and just skated around for fun before wrapping up the video.

"And have a Bae-Baetastic day!" They ended the video, waving at the camera as it panned up to the ceiling before cutting off.

"At least I know how to ice skate a little!" she smiled, trying to skate but ended up falling on top of Sunghoon.

"You spoke too soon," he groaned.

She sat up and apologized to him as he got up and helped her. "Maybe I did speak too soon," she laughed.

He shook his head and patted her shoulder. "You'll never be as good as me, sweetie," he winked, making her roll her eyes.

"Never said I'll be as good as you," she said before holding his hand as he led her off the rink.

Okay, new ask game! Top three dates you'd love to see Buck and Tommy go on 🥰

Sorry this has been in my inbox forever <3 1. Skydiving! Buck would love it, and would persuade Tommy into doing it. I think Tommy would be reticent - he flies the aircraft; he doesn't jump from them. He's even less enthusiastic when he learns that they have to take a 6-hour class beforehand, because Buck wants to do it solo and not with an instructor strapped to his back. Buck's able to persuade him, though, through the power of puppy dog eyes and blowjobs combined. While they're going up, Tommy is a little fidgety, and Buck teases him ("The man who flew through a cat five hurricane is afraid of a little jump?"). When it comes to the jump - which they do separately because the one thing Buck didn't do during his travels was become a licensed skydiver - Buck goes first and he gives Tommy a peck and a cheeky wave. And, well, Tommy's already promised himself that he'll follow where Evan goes, so he doesn't hesitate. When they've both landed, adrenaline narrowing their focus, Tommy pulls Buck towards him and they make out until the instructor clear her throat. 2. Baseball game - this time, it's Tommy that pulls from his mental fact database. I know that man lives on Baseball Reference and FanGraphs. He struggled with enjoying it one of the few good memories he had with his dad was watching games on the TV together, but he had an ex who got him back into it, and now he's a Dodgers fan. He's telling Buck all about Shohei Ohtani and how he is potentially the greatest baseball player to ever live. Buck is charmed. He's never been to a baseball game before but loves the idea of them, and immediately grabs crackerjack and peanuts because they're classic. Between innings, they end up on the kiss cam, and Buck leans in to kiss Tommy, happy and grinning and proud. 3. Clubbing - Buck never got his dance at the wedding, and he is going to dance with Tommy. It's not the same kind of dancing, but this is even better; he can hold Tommy as close as he wants and not worry about who might be watching them. Buck's been to a gay club before, but always an ally - "Thought you were still my ally, Evan?" - and not since he's started dating Tommy. Tommy isn't huge on clubbing, but he's got a couple favorite spots he goes to occasionally. The club's busy, and they're already touching, squished side-to-side, when they're getting drinks. Then it's out to the dance floor, and they spend hours out there (with a few trips to the bar in between), hands roaming, yelling into each other's ears to be heard over the music. By the time they leave they're both drunk and giggling, their ears ringing, and they tumble together from the Uber into Tommy's bed.

Missing your attack can be fun

Something that always bugged me during combat: waiting for my turn just to roll a miss.

I usually try to mitigate (misses) or eliminate (turn order) these sources of frustration in my games.

In Nexalis, however, I went the opposite direction: I combined them.

How? And why?

See, it starts with an alternating turn order.

A player attacks, then they choose an enemy to go next. The enemy attacks, and chooses a player to go next.

This is the basic ping-pong "I go, you go" sort of order (popcorn initiative, as I was reminded).

But when one of the sides misses, you're offered a choice:

If you miss, you can just accept it and pick an enemy to go next.

OR

You can receive a counterblow, BUT you get to pick another player to go next.

Your misfortune allows your side to keep the initiative!

This choice is interesting because of how damage works:

Your attack roll - their defense roll is the damage you'd normally deal.

If your attack is lower, however, you either miss OR receive the difference as damage yourself (the counterblow) for the right not to hand over initiative.

See the tactical choice here?

"I rolled a 5, they rolled an 8." "Should I take 3 damage and pick the caster who has 18 Energy Points to spend, potentially taking down the enemy before they perform a stronger attack?"

The frustration of missing becomes the power to influence the very flow of battle!

And it works both ways:

When an enemy misses, you can deliver the difference in damage as a counterblow, but you forfeit the right to choose a player to go next.

You've got to pick another enemy to attack you.

(Quick reminder: it is a GMless game)

Depending on the circumstances, you can even pick another character to deal or receive the counterblow (if their player agrees, of course)

Imagine the following scenario: you shoot an arrow on an enemy engaged in melee with your ally, and you miss by 2!

You can propose this:

"Hey, man, you got a lot of HP left. Can you take these 2 as a counterblow, and I choose the druid to go next and skydive on them?"

To which they could respond:

"Heck yeah, let's do this".

Or

"I'll take the hit, but pick me to go next".

Or... something else!

It is an informed decision.

You have to consider the circumstances of the battle.

Who is in a good position to go next? How badly would this hurt us? Should we keep the initiative at all costs?

Oh, and about 'initiative', here's how it works: 

You roll a d6 for each side before combat. The winning side picks their first attacker, and then the ping-pong begins.

When anyone rolls a tie (ATK=DEF), the circumstance changes somehow.

So initiative is rolled again (it's a single roll, so it doesn't break the pacing).

So I think that by combining two aspects that annoyed me, I turned a frustration into one of my favorite mechanics of the game!

Quick-bite reviews: V/H/S/Beyond (2024) dir. Jay Cheel, Jordan Downey, Virat Patel, Justin Martinez, Christian & Justin Long, Kate Seigel

I finally decided to stop covering this franchise (last year's '/85' remains unwatched) when '/Beyond' had to go ahead and be pitched as an alien-centric V/H/S with a segment written by my horror enemy Mike Flanagan. I've seen a fair chunk of alien horror movies and never have much to say about them because... they're bad... but I'm always rooting for a good one to come into existence. They're like my now-horrible home baseball team; I KNOW the storytelling optics aren't there, it wouldn't be a problem if we could assemble the perfect cast and crew and have infinite time and infinite money. The original V/H/S actually had a memorable piece of alien horror so that's encouraging? It wasn't good but it was memorable! It was there! My feelings on Flanagan only made for extra incentive; if I couldn't have a good alien horror movie at least I could have another alien horror movie to be performatively mad at.

Mike Flanagan has been forgiven; alien horror has made it to first base.

Beyond is still very much a V/H/S movie so was never going to be my thing, but I think it's successful(!) because every segment understands that the job of a V/H/S movie is to feel like a theme park haunted house. The usual buckets of gore and barf and what have you are coordinated this time around, showman-like. The frame story, notoriously the worst part of even the best anthology horror, re-grounds the aliens when segments stray and is a great example of how to lovingly and effectively mock cable-cum-YouTube documentaries. The creature design and bad acting of the first segment are fun enough, while the second segment is a commentary on Mumbai's Film City that feels like homage to and improvement upon the original V/H/S. The third segment goes crazy; UFO attack on a skydiving plane?? and then aliens with interesting designs chase everyone in broad daylight and rip them apart into Halloween decorations??? That's what we've been waiting for! The momentum is building! Then there's Justin Long's abysmal segment. Most unfunny comedy torture-horror I've ever seen, made me think I was going to have to rate this even lower than past panned V/H/Ses, Saw 18 directed by Doug Walker, etc., etc., until, finally, we lose the haunted house angle and Flanagan takes center stage.

His alien story is so good I didn't want to believe it was him writing it, and so painfully UNBEARABLY Stephen King I knew it couldn't be anyone else. Clever sci-fi concept that does my favorite thing in the world by focusing on the UFO itself, eye-rollingly maudlin over American family values, intentionally funny in places, and scary!!! I said 'no way' out loud when I realized how it was going to end; timed just right, not too early but still well before the protagonist. I'm giving Flanagan so much credit because it's the kind of short story I would've been completely enraptured by as a kid, but on film its function is really thanks to director Kate Seigel and near-solo actress Alanah Pearce. They use their medium (infrared camera!) and place in the framework to full advantage, which is why I'm glad it's a little treat within a schlocky horror anthology instead of a short film in its own right.

Buy a ticket? With these V/H/S reviews I always say 'no it's bad don't watch it unless you already like the franchise,' and THIS time... still no lmao. It isn't quite good enough to merit a recommendation, but that's on high highs and low lows rather than the kind of mediocre stickiness of past entries. If you're interested in going through a haunted house (these things continue to hit right at my limit for gore and body horror) to include one gnarly alien story and one interesting one? You could do worse. Not a home run, but first base. They hit the ball <3

Some couples happened AFTER the War or DURING the late war. Some of them including Decepticon and Autobot love matches and forbidden romances. That however is a different story it self… quite a long one as well.

The Cassettes wanted more independence and that’s why they aren’t with Blaster or Soundwave. Blaster was supportive with it while Soundwave… he just worries about his babies.

Drake Walker Appreciation and HC's 2023

This is my offering for Day 1 of Drake Walker Appreciation Week by @drake-walker-appreciation

What do I love about this fictional man? The better question is what don’t I love about him? Because I love everything about him, even his faults and flaws!

There is no one more loyal than Drake Walker. Now I know some may dispute this because canonically he does fall for his best friend’s girl but… in a route where you romance Drake, he fights it tooth and nail. Think about it. Here is the love of his life in front of him and he struggles mightily to deny it, fight it and hide it. Why? Because he doesn’t ever want to hurt Liam or MC for that matter.

As gruff as he is, he forgives Maxwell for hiding the truth about Savannah, he always does the right thing, even if he bitches about it (he’s an antihero, think Han Solo), he really is a marshmallow!

Anyone who’s read even a little of my stuff knows that I almost always make him a captain in the King’s Guard or the Royal Guard (these might be used interchangeably by some people, but in my HC and my writing, they are separate units, or rather, the King’s Guard and the Queen’s Guard are smaller, elite units within the Cordonian Royal Guard).

Drake, as I write him, almost always fights his attraction for Riley initially, despite being strongly drawn to her from the beginning. Once she gives him any type of encouragement, and sometimes even if she doesn’t, he becomes very protective and almost obsessive in his devotion. I have written him both as completely unjealous (perfectly willing to share her with Liam as long as he has a place in her life) and over the top homicidally possessive and probably everything in between. The overarching HC is that she is the love of his life and despite being a man whore before he met her, once he falls, that’s it for him. He will do anything and everything for her.

Drake loves Riley with a single minded intensity that just overpowers everything else, including his own better sense.

For some reason, I always HC that he never wanted kids, mostly because of his position in the King’s Guard, and having lost his own father. He doesn’t want to put a child through that. He wants neither children nor does he ever want marriage or even a serious relationship until he meets Riley, who changes his mind about wanting a relationship. Once he has a child, he relishes the role and is an involved and doting father. In any universe where they are in a poly relationship, I usually make the first baby or two Liam’s (for obvious, succession related reasons) and Drake is just as devoted to that child as he will later be to his own.

I HC that Drake is a very physical person and an adrenaline junkie. He rides a motorcycle, drives a fast car, plays drums, skydives for fun, rides horses, works out regularly, goes for a five mile run every morning, and plays baseball etc. Thanks to @karahalloway I now also HC that he plays polo!

Though he denies it, and grumbles about it, he actually loves the stupid pet names that Riley comes up with for him. (Cuddle bear, snuggle bug, squishy) and despite the gruff exterior he still shows to the outside world, he is extremely affectionate and shows his love in physical ways, not just sex, but cuddling and frequent touch including hand holding, playing with her hair, having his hand at her back, or even just quickly brushing hands as they pass each other during the workday. He needs to know where she is at every moment, but that’s part of his protective nature and job as head of her security.

For some reason, I’ve given him an obsession with bacon in everything I’ve written! And of course, I think we all agree that he loves the outdoors. Camping, hiking, fishing, etc. And whiskey, obviously whiskey (I’ve only made him straight up have to go to AA once lol).

I enjoy writing him with a darker edge sometimes, which somehow makes his gentleness with Riley even hotter.

au in which Maverick, Goose, Iceman and Slider have weekend in Las Vegas before going to Top Gun and they don't know each other but Mav and Ice, Pete and Tom, immediately start flirting and, by the end of the night, they're drunk enough they get married without remembering a lick of it the morning after but with all the legal paperwork in order and the rings on their fingers. But it takes then almost two days to connects the dots and, at that point, they're already in different places.

The first day of Top Gun, when Mav sees Ice sitting a couple of rows behind him, and hi husband and Slider would like to die because seriously him?! Oh god Thomas. But all Ice can do is smile and wave back.

If people give shit to Mav because nobody believes he's married to someone with a boring name like Tom, when they ask Iceman who he's married to and he answers Pete, everybody smiles along, and yeah, yeah, it does make sense. Pete could be a lawyer, a kindergarten teacher, a doctor or a botanist, it wouldn't be very relevant because Pete is the man Admiral Kazansky goes on trips with, to hike in Yellowstone Park and to skydive that time he was bored and without anything to do. Pete is the man who sometimes makes him lunch and always, always, leaves little silly notes in the admiral's jacket when he has long meetings and conferences outside the national border. Pete, who asked Tom to marry him back in '91 and said yes when Tom asked in '11. Pete is a calm, normal, borderline boring, and composed person who loves the Admiral and likes a peaceful and relaxed life.

Yeah, exactly that Pete.

(But then Tom introduces his husband to them, and they can be admirals or secretaries or janitors alike, and everyone thinks that they really really don't know Admiral Kazansky at all.)

((Mav's favourite story is about that time Ice introduced him to Admirals Simpson and Cain. Years later, he's still crying for how much he laughs when he tells the tale.))
