Bought by a Shelby part 1
Finn goes with his family up to the mountain to recruit new gypsy family's to help the Shelby's brothers. Fate has plans for Finn.
__________________________________________________________
âWhy are we here freezing our arses off ?â Finn asked, clearly annoyed at being drug up the snow-covered mountains. It was fall in Birmingham, no snow had fallen yet and with all the smog and hot industry, winter usually came a bit late in the section Finn lived in.
He should have been happy to breathe some fresh air and get out of that frigid little apartment Tommy and Arthur had given him after the whole vendetta fiasco.
Tommy had rudely woken everyone up and told them a plan that heâd known about for weeks. Apparently, he needed a new expansion and with Esme Lee, Boswells and Gold families refusing to be drugged into any more of his schemes, they needed to extend to gypsy camps outside of their family for help.
âWe already told you Finn, we're here to do business and you are a part of that business.â Tommy said flatly as he tugged his gloves over his hands hoping to keep some heat from escaping his body. Even he would admit it was a bone chilling day with the wind whipping and biting into any exposed flesh it could touch.
Arthur and Tommy had built a fire which was raging at this point yet no one was warm. Ada had brought thermos filled with hot Cocoa. The cold was freezing the outside of the metal just leaving chocolate flavored water. Finn was ready to go. Expanding the gypsy hand of influence was silly as far as he was concerned. There were plenty of ambitious young lads in Birmingham whoâd be happy to be paid to do whatever Blinders business they needed to do.
âArenât you the one complaining that you wanted to be a legitimate business partner? You need to go outside the office once and get some fresh air.â Ada chastised him, gently poking him in the ribs. He glared at her and she rolled her eyes while the elder brothers chuckled. He hated feeling that he was taking in all their teasing, he was, but he didn't want to be.
âI think I've breathed enough cold air to last me a lifetime Arthur.â He cocked off his mouth earning a finger waving from Tom warning him to be respectful.
âMaybe Tommy will find you a little gypsy wife to form an alliance with her family Finn, follow in John's footsteps. Form an alliance through a family and then we can all go home after the wedding.â Ada chirped and earned grins from her brother, all except Finn.
âYeah, that worked out great didnât it.â He sneered. He hadnât meant for it to come out as scalding and scathing as it had. All three turned to look at him, clearly surprised by his attitude. He knew he should be grateful for the opportunity and he was. John was still a sore spot for him. Out of all the siblings, Finn, Ada and John were the ones most full of life. They constantly teased and ribbed playfully at one another. Arthur and Tommy were too serious after the war.
âI can still hear you Finn.â Tommy glared at him. His cold steely gaze did not leave the younger man's face. Finn refused to look away. Heâd been dealt with or dismissed too much in the past to be intimidated by any of it anymore.
âBoys, here we go. We're a united unit, rememberâ Ada said smiling at the approaching clan that were emerging from the tree line.
Finn scoffed and rolled his eyes, they were never a united unit. Wouldnât be until this generation retired.
âGentlemen welcome, we build a fire, please, gather around and hear our proposition.
â Hatman, Temple, Nithercott, Loughty, are we all accounted for?â Tommy asked, clasping his hands as the Shelby's stood across from the fire waiting for all the members to nod or speak.
Finn was exhausted, this was going to be a very long and very cold day. ______________________________________________________________
Three hours, three tedious and semi productive hours of sitting on frost covered logs, the cold seeping in through his arse while they went in circles reaffirming the offer or rejecting offers only to end up agreeing on the first propositions mentioned twenty minutes in. Finn hated the delegations. He didnât have the patience for it much, preferring to be in on the action.
He saw Ada rubbing her temples, she was even over it. He smiled at her sympathetically.
â I gotta go piss.â He stood as she shook her head at his gruffness. He turned heading to the stream away from all the eyes at camp.
Heâd just finished on a tree and turned to rinse his hands not looking forward to the icy cold water in front of him. A wide open slow moving river stretched out in front of him winding through the mountains. He bet it looked beautiful in the summer when it was warm and teaming with life and color.
Finn didnât hate nature like his brothers assumed. He just enjoyed the comforts heâd grown accustomed to like insulated walls, coal burning fires and houses.
He froze watching several ladies approaching to dip wooden buckets into the stream. Old and young gathered scattered throughout.
One caught his attention though, she wasnât as beautiful as the others in a common sense. She was striking to him however. Long bone white bleached hair hung mostly loose around her face. Two black cords tied tightly to show her red chapped lips and her dark brown eyes, warm like the tree bark promising spring. She blushed and turned away from him gathering water and whispering to the other two champagne blondes near her. They all bore a resemblance and seemed close in age, sister perhaps. Finn smiled at her hoping to catch her eye again. He hoped she didn't have brothers. He wouldn't mind ferret her out and striking up a conversation.
He had a fiancĂ© back home, the back of his mind was trying to compare the two. There wasnât a comparison to be found.
Myra wasn't a particularly tall, fashionable thing with short red hair and piercing green eyes. She was spunky, mischievous and eager to live with Finn because of his gangster lifestyle. They always had a good time together whether causing trouble or messing around in his apartment
This mountain girl was of average height and built as far as he could tell with all the blankets she had draped over her. Nothing but her eyes and hair were of a particular draw. She stood away from him by the other women, a good gypsy girl, probably a virgin. Whatever she knew of sex came from animal husbandry, he didnât see any animals though. Probably too cold he thought bitterly. He lifted a cigarette to his mouth and lit it, placing his freezing cold lighter back in his pocket. At least this was a comfort.
âSee something you like?â Finn looked around trying to find the reedy thin old voice that had just intruded his thoughts.
He tried not to back away as a hunched over old woman placed her hand on his. She squeezed his arms and his bicep. He smiled warmly at her. Even for a handsy old woman she had some irresistible charm. He shook his head and smiled down at her, mindful to not blow smoke in her face.
âJust looking around.â He replied, turning his head back to the young woman. The one heâd been watching was gone. He didnât realize it but he was scanning around to see if he could spot her.
âYou should look again. Iâm sure sheâs closer than you think.â She patted his arm after cryptically speaking and hobbled off rather quickly to Finn's surprise. ************************************************************************

Snowed In
âOh, look who decided to join us again?â Tommy quipped clearly agitated with Finn's presence. When wasnât he annoyed by the forgotten little brother though?
âEnough Tommy, Finn, sit down and prepare yourself.â Adaâs clipped tone alerted Finn that something had happened in just the little amount of time heâd wandered off. What now?
âWhat? Why? Whoâd you engage me too?â Panic filled his voice. To his chagrin his siblings all laughed with joy and the mood was lighter, at least for them.
âIt's worse than that?â He asked with baited breath. He could feel his anxiety growing and gnawing at his stomach.
âWeâre snowed in until tomorrow morning.â Tommy flatly spoke smoking as he glanced at Finn. He knew something, Finn could tell. It started to sink in..âWeâre snowed in until tomorrow morning.â That's what Thomas had said. Shit.
Finn groaned and turned walking toward the camp.
âWhere does he keep walking off to?â Arthur asked, his voice growing distant as the crushing snow filled Finnâs ear. He didnât know, just away from his siblings was all he cared about.
************************************************************************************
Finn walked around accidentally stumbling into a clearing that was where the familyâs camped. Vardoâs littered the base of the mountain. He looked around hoping to lay eyes on that girl again. He sighed after several minutes ready to give up. He walked into the forest with a bit of movement catching his eyes.
She stood over a fire, her gloves tucked under her arms while she warmed herself.
He smiled as he approached her. There was just something about her. He couldn't stop reminding himself that Myra was waiting for him in Birmingham. Why did he have to remind himself?
He could hear Polly's voice in his head, telling him it was because Myra wasnât the one if he could look at another girl and FORCE himself to think of his fiancĂ©.
âDo you always stop and stare at women?â She teased him playfully and motioned for him to come over. Her voice was soft, warm and sweet like hot cocoa, unlike Adaâs lumpy chocolate flavored chilled water.
He approached her and stood near her at the fire. She looked around as if checking to see if they were alone.
âWhy are you parked all the way out here under the pine trees?â He asked genuinely curious. She was a woman away from camp? Why?
âDo you hear that?â she brought her hands up to her ears as she grinned at him.
âAll I hear are noisy little twittering birds.â He said with confusion. He looked around. All there was around was birds.
âExactly. I like birds and animals. People are okay but I prefer to be a way out. I like the quiet.â She looked down, putting her gloves back on and sitting near the fire on a log. She stuck out her hand and gestured for him to sit near her. He obliged and really looked at her. She was lovely. Nothing modern or over done. He wouldnât mind seeing her in a splash of color, a little lipstick, warm colored clothing or even no clothing. He shook his head and blushed, geez. What was she doing to him?
He smirked. She wouldnât complain if she were cooped up with him. She probably wouldn't harp on him to go to the movies, or go out to eat, drink or buy her fancy clothes and jewels. Sheâd be at home excited to see him, cooking and cleaning and waitingâŠ
God, he was just like John. He liked feral little gypsy women. The realization struck him like a train. He hadnât expected to like a gypsy. Heâd never really lived that way, always remembered living in warm houses by the cut. Why was he attracted to her?
He didn't know she was watching his face change and morph into confusion. Was it something sheâd said?â
âSo, how's it going? Are you bringing families to your cities successfully?â He was surprised at her boldness and ease in switching conversation. He was used to girls giggling and flirting until he said something. This one was bold and observant yet quiet.
âIs yours coming?â he asked genuinely curious. He felt disappointed when she shook her head no, her long blonde locks cascading around her like a mane. She looked like a snow fairy. Ethereal and untamed but dainty and hearty at the same time. Complete contradiction and he found that fascinating.
âAh, my father would see us freeze to death first. We'll be the last line to leave the mountain.â She smiled warmly at him but he saw her eyeâs darken. Sadness filled her warm large orbs.
If she knew who he was or what his family did, she didnât seem fearful or let on. He hoped because she was from the mountains that her people maybe had hard enough lives to overlook how bloody the Shelbyâs were.
âWhat about you?â He asked curiously, would she join him if he asked? What would his siblings say?
âWhat about me?â She asked, suddenly stopping her gaze at the fire. Her dark intense eyes settled on him intensely. Watching him carefully like she suddenly realized he was a predator.
âWell would you ever live in the city, do you like the radio? The pictures?â Finn asked almost in a rush. He felt embarrassed. She looked into his soul. Esme could do that too; it was like being naked in front of them, your soul and body bare.
ââI have no idea what you just said.â She laughed and her voice flitted off the trees and danced in the lightly blowing snowy air. She was a fairy princess.
âWhat are pictures? Or a radio? âShe says clumsily. She was leaning on her hands and arms which were propped on her knees. She was actively listening to him, engaged.
âYou've never listened to a radio!?â He balked. He looked around and stared back at her. She laughed and covered her face with her gloves hiding her blush from him. Heâd made her feel silly.
âHave you ever been to a proper dance or anything?â He asked. He was lost now, how could she live just out here in no man's land, were they ever mingled with other gypsy clans? Or anyone?
âDo we dance improperly?â She raised a brow challenging him but her tone was calm. He braced himself. He knew from living with Tommy that someone being calm while upset was never a good thing. They could strike like snakes.
He hadnât meant to offend her, he just couldnât understand how in 1930âs something sheâd never known of these things.
âNo, no I just meantâŠ.â Finn looked at her hoping sheâd stop him. She didn't unfortunately just stared waiting for him to make sense. He gave up.
âIâm not explaining myself right am I?â He said pathetically begging her through his own blue eyes to end his suffering.
âNo, but you're lovely to listen to. You have a nice voice MrâŠ.â His heart stopped. She wanted to know his name. That was a good sign right?
âFinn Shelby..and you are?â He was aware he leaned into her. There wasnât much space between them to begin with. She was interested in him too.
â Letitia Loughty.â The old reedy voice crept up behind them both. He noticed she stiffed a bit beside him but she didnât run. He was fearing this little old lady was a gypsy witch. Heâd better be on his guard around her.
She sat down next to him and took his bare hand.
âItâs cold you know, you should have mittens or common sense.â She looked up at him while she scolded gently. Letitia laughed but tried smothering it in her gloves. He glared at her, willing her to shut up. She lowered her head but he swore he saw a Cheshire cat grin on her chapped lips.
âItâs okay lad, let's look at your fate, yes.â She took his hands into her and traced his lines along his palm. It tickled. He was trying hard to not squirm or laugh. His Aunt Pol would have slapped him upside the head if he had.
âYou have a long life here, you have a hard road trying to distinguish yourself within your family. You found it here, today.â She smiled at him. He was grateful she hadnât mentioned children. Old women liked kids and always tried to settle you with a whole bunch of babies in your palm line for some reason.
âYou have a soulmate. The red string of fate binds you to her.â The old woman nodded and smiled at him. She had no teeth, her face was so etched in lines she almost looked like a tree. Fairies..all of them he thought bitterly.
âHow would you know that?â He was trying to be respectful but even he could hear the nervousness and condescension in his voice.
âYour palms will match. A connection of lines if you will that flows together like the river.â The old crone scoffed like it was common knowledge everyone knew about. He chuckled.
âDo our palms match?â The cheeky asked Lettie. Her eyes widened and she exchanged glances with the old women who motioned for her hand. She placed it side by side with him. They connected beautifully.
âYeah but, it's just you knowâŠ.â He stuttered. Both women were looking at him confused and angry.
âGypsy stuff?â She says looking up and down at his suit. Heâd pissed her off. If she was a fairy, he was doomed to be cursed. Shit.
âI have to go find my brother Tommy, excuse me.â He left both women confused by the fire as he ran in the deepening snow calling out to his siblings. Theyâd know what to do right?
****************************************************************************************
He was panting by the time he found them. They had a raging bonfire and heâd almost wished heâd tumbled into it.
âTommy..â He said, gasping for air. His lungs hurt from the cold. Tommy stood up and held him up firmly.
âEase up soldier, Finn, what happened?â His elder brother looked concerned. He looked into the woods. Nothing was chasing him, animal or man. That was good for them.
âWhat do you know about gypsy witches, and red string and palms?â Finn panted out not sure anyone could hear him. He barely understood what was coming out of his mouth.
âWhat did you do, Finn?â Tommy shook him. The lines hardened on his face in anger. Finn stiffened. He was always the fuck up to these people wasnât he?
âNothing, I swear. I talked to this girl, and this gypsy witch appeared out of thin air, said something about strings of fate and read my palms. It connected to a girl over there.â His breath was coming out in large white wisps. The air clearly stealing his breath in these cursed mountains.
âAlright Finn, slow down. You don't let anyone you don't know, read your palm ever, eh? Didnât Polly ever tell you that?â Tommy pressed the younger mans head to his trying to calm him down. It was a kind gesture Thomas usually reserved for Arthur when he was upset, never Finn.
He wondered if something had shifted between them.
âIf she did tell me, I was too young to listen and ignored her.â Finn's honesty took him by surprise. He honestly was so far removed from the upbringing they had traveling with mum and living the traveler life. Hunting and fishing were taught to him by the elder three Shelby siblings. Thatâs really all he knew from that way of life.
âYeah, how is that working out? What girl?â Tommy was smiling from ear to ear. He was enjoying this. Finn Shelby, the comfortable little city cat falling for a feral gypsy girl.
âI don't remember much of her name. It was weird Tom, I nicknamed her Lettie in my head. Her last name started with a L.â Finn was still in Tommy's grasp. He was thrilled when his brother let go and looked off into the woods. He knew that look. He was plotting.
âThe Loughtyâs.â Tommy pointed a finger at Finn. âYes.â He wasnât asking so much as confirming. Finn nodded.
âThat family is tough finn, that man is built like a butcher he is.â Arthur's voice floated over the fire that was sputtering in spite of size. The wind was really starting to pick up. The type of cold that seeps into your bones and freezes them over.
âWhat the fuck Arthur, why would you say that?â Finn challenged him. He could fight but how was that information helpful? He doubted heâd win having seen these people. The men were large and rugged like the backdrop itself.
âArthur! Youâll scare poor Finn.â Ada scolds him. He shrugged to himself poking at the fire.
Finn glared daggers at his sister. He wasnât ten anymore.
âWeâll, do you like her?â Tommy's voice drew him back to his thoughts about the girl.
âIf Tommy is asking you that question, you run Finn, he has a plan now.â Adaâs warning earned her a sharp glare from Tom. Finn scoffed, he already figured that. It was kinda refreshing to be a step ahead of his older siblings.
âI do strangely. Iâm really drawn to Tommy. I can't explain it.â That earned him a pat on the shoulder from Thomas who was very pleased with that answer.
âWhat's so strange about her?â Arthur asked pointedly. He was sitting back watching the two men celebrate.
âIâm engaged back home Arthur, to Myra remember. IâŠI honestly have to keep reminding myself Iâm engaged back home. Itâs like I see Lettie and I forget everything else.â
âSounds like Love to me.â Tommy proclaimed.
âSounds like a fairytale.â Ada bit out. âYou're thinking with your cock Finn, not your brain.â She looked at her brothers who were more interested in Finn than her commentary.
âOh Myra, yeah, is that the brunette or the red haired one that is a bit of a bitch?â Arthur asked Finn.
âBoys, geez Finn, if you were happily engaged why were you talking to this other girl? And donât give me that crock about gypsy magic and palms.â Ada refused to let this go. It irritated him. Shed runoff and got married, eloped behind everyoneâs back to Freddie Thorne. She had no right to tell him who to marry and how.
âI donât know Ada. Maybe I'm not as happy as I thought.â He countered.
âI do, cause the other girl aint for you. This one is.â Arthur was standing by Finn playfully punching at him. Finn enjoyed getting positive attention for once from his brothers. This hadnât happened in years.
âSpare me your romantic views Arthur?â Finn bantered back bouncing boxing back and forth.
âEnoughâ Tommy and Ada yelled. They were starting to get a headache. Things needed to be done.
âI'll trudge through the snow, see what I can find out about her if you're a serious Finn.â It was his last chance to back out. Even he knew that.
âI am.â He was surprised by how absolute he felt. He only knew her name and that she liked quiet places. Birmingham wasnât but he was hoping sheâd adjust. _________________________________________
Finn woke up to being shaken by the cold hands of death. Cold and unyielding. He shot away and looked at his older brother's face. Tommy was glaring at him. Finn looked at his watch.3 a.m. ugh. âDo you ever sleep or do you just feed off of chaos and death like a vampire?â Finn asked, annoyed that heâd been woken up so early. The chill was settling in. Heâd never sleep now.
âDo you want to hear the news or not Finn?â Tommy asked, clearly uninterested in his little brother's pouty nature.
âYeah, I do.â He did. Heâd been dreaming about her and what they would do together at his apartment; none of it was pure. The cold was helping to tame his erection though. He was grateful for that since Ada rolled over and sat up wiping her eyes to listen in on them.
âThey sell their brides. You put forth a price, you and her father haggle, she marries you.â Tommy said it so plainly Finn almost missed it. That was it. No say for her or anything?
âShe doesn't get a say? I don't have anything to give him?â He blurted it out, gaining a scoff from both elder men.
He didnât want her to be forced with him. That's how husbands got poisoned or murdered in their sleep or so heâd heard.
âWe have cash, you can pay me back when we get home. That is if you meant what you said and did not waste my hours off in the cold talking to her father.â He challenged Finn.
âWhy would he want cash?â Finn asked. They didnât pay rent or buy groceriesâŠwhat use would he have for it out here?
âHe doesn't want his family to starve and they are as of right now. She's another mouth to feed. Nothing more, nothing less.â Tommy said it so flippantly the whole tent went quiet as the snow around them.
âGood man to ask Finn. Women shouldnât be for sale Thomas.â Ada scoffed and smacked her elder brother's arm. He seemed unfazed. If Finn had done that to Tommy, heâd be outside in the snow before he knew whoâd hit him.
âYour choice, she's set to be auctioned off by the spring I hear. If they make it through the winter without starving.. She'd be eighteen soon to be nineteen in February.â
âDon't push him into it Tom!â Ada chastised him harshly. She looked at Finn searching his face. He couldnât be serious about this could he?
âHer family might go to the city soon Finn at some point in the very near future, she lays eyes on a handsome city boy, then what?â Tommy was like a dog with a bone in his teeth. He refused to relent. Ada sensed something was up.
âTommy! Finns plenty handsome and he looks a lot like you two. Iâm sure she wouldnât turn her head that quickly.â Finn nodded at Ada thanking her for having faith in him. Well, faith in his looks at any rate.
âPoor boy. Looks like us eh Tom?â Arthur said snickering. âSo what are you gonna do about her, Finn? Marry her, or hope she doesnât starve to death?â Arthurs questions were surprisingly his own as well. He couldnât just leave her behind could he? He could come back in the spring but if he missed the auctionâŠthen what?
âJokes aside, you can't all be seriously thinking of purchasing her for him are you? She's a human being Finn, not a puppy for you to train up. â Ada was furious. Her reasoning was sound. Finn couldnât really hear her. He knew she was a person, and would be a good wife. He just did.
Finn looked at Tommy shielding his face and body from Ada.
âYes. I want that girl. I need her, I don't know why, I just do.â He said resolutely. Tommy and Arthur exchanged happy glances. There would be a wedding after all.

Finn hated the delegations. He didnât have the patience for it much, preferring to be in on the action.Â
He saw Ada rubbing her temples, she was even over it. He smiled at her sympathetically.
â I gotta go piss.â He stood as she shook her head at his gruffness. He turned heading to the stream away from all the eyes at camp.Â
Heâd just finished on a tree and turned to rinse his hands not looking forward to the icy cold water in front of him. A wide open slow moving river stretched out in front of him winding through the mountains. He bet it looked beautiful in the summer when it was warm and teaming with life and color.Â
Finn didnât hate nature like his brothers assumed. He just enjoyed the comforts heâd grown accustomed to like insulated walls, coal burning fires and houses.Â
He had a fiance back home, the back of his mind was trying to compare the two.
At least this was a comfort.
âSee something you like?â Finn looked around trying to find the reedy thin old voice that had just intruded his thoughts.Â
Iâm sure sheâs closer than you think.â She patted his arm after cryptically speaking and hobbled off rather quickly to Finn's surprise.Â

Lettie has a nightmare causing her to question her relationship with Finn.
Dont interact if under 18. Heavy chapter*
______________________________________________________________
It all comes crumbling down *not a fluffy chapter** Were building some character into Letitia.
____________________________________________________________________
Lettie groaned and rolled over in absolute agony. She was laying on the bathroom floor crying out for Finn. He was long gone by then to London. Her nails raked against cold tiles as she lay her head down in defeat.
She had swallowed a ton of little white pebbles that weighed her down and pinned her to the cold unfeeling floor.
â As long as your womb is full, youâll never conceive.â Her grandmother's voice echoed off the sterile white walls in the micro room that was literally closing in around herâŠ.. _______________________________________________________ Letitia sat up panting feeling her heart slamming into her chest like an erratic bird trapped on a ceiling.
She quickly looked around. She was shaking violently.
She saw the white canopy flutter slightly from her violent movements. The sweat that drenched her tiny frame was cold and slick, chilling her to the bone. She looked around. Her husband's side of the bed was cold and unmade. Heâd left already.
She tossed her legs on the side of the bed and walked to the bedroom window gently peeling the curtains back. Birmingham was wrapped in a blanket of soft fluffy white snow. She wished the weather was warm. She hated feeling the sting of coldâŠ.even if fear was a more accurate word for her lack of body heat at the moment.
She took a deep breath letting the morning chill sting her awake. She couldnât remember when the last time was she had a nightmareâŠnoâŠa warning of something.
She turned and walked briskly to the bathroom. She was grateful Finn was gone already. He hadnât woken her for breakfast this morning, gratefully. She was beginning to think she was more of a maid than a companion.
She flung aside the mirror that disguised a row of shelves in the wall. A medicine cabinet heâd called it.
She pushed his shaving products aside searching for a little white box.
She grabbed it and examined it. It looked similar to the pebbles in her dreams, only smaller. Heâd told her they would help her feel well, not that she was sick. She tapped her fingers on the sink lost deep in thought. She wasnât a stupid girl. These little white tablets were connected to ehr dreams. She trusted her intuition. If she hadnât she would have died a long time ago from that God forsaken mountain.
She had a nagging feeling her dream was a warning from her grandmother, who she hoped had made it out away from the mountain. She was far too old to care for herself. Maybe one or both of her sisters knew where grandma was? She was a powerful seer of the clan. Too powerful to be left to die and far too stubborn, like you granddaughters.
âHello, Lettie?â She closed her eyes and sighed with relief. Now she could ask. Lyria and Laviniaâs raven haired heads peaked around the door frame of her bedroom searching for their little sister. She was grateful the apartment was âsmall.â It made it so much easier to keep up with and to be sought out.
âDo you know what these are?â Lettie tossed them as she moved to stand in the frame of the bathroom door placing her long fingers on her hips demanding an answer.
She was amazed at how well Lyria had caught the box. Her sister frowned, turning it over and reached behind her to hand over the box to Lavina whose jaw was set, her eyes flashing with rage.
âDid Finn ask you to take these?â She snapped. Lyria moved closer to the bed watching the eldest Loughty woman. Even she knew to be weary and remove yourself from the eldest daughter's path when the rage struck her.
âYes, what are they? I had a horrible dream about swallowing rocks on my stomach and grandma visited my dreams saying they were poisoning my womb.â The sisters all exchanged wide eyes.
Lettie was touched with a gift, theyâd known that since they were all children. She hadnât been this upset since her last dream where a large blanket from the mountain had covered them all in a blanket of white, theyâd smothered trying to get out. Everyone but one family had moved, that week theyâd been buried alive, smothered from lack of oxygen and the cold.
"That's terrifying Lettuce.â Lyriaâs nickname for Lettie caused the blonde to bite her lip and glare. She hadnât heard it in so long. Finn had tried once, sheâd ignored him. He never did it again, apparently getting the hint. She rolls her eyes but her smile betrays her.Lyria hated confrontation and always tried to lighten the mood. Lettie had a feeling though that this was too serious for even her sister to laugh at.
âFirst of all, you stupid little gypsy girl,â Lavina stalked toward her blonde-haired sister tossing the box back at her with force. Lettie widened her stance ready to defend herself if she needed to. Mountain girls werenât known to be overly docile, not for long at any rate.
â I don't care if Finn is your husband. You ask him questions before you swallow anything he gives you from now on, do you understand?â Her venom dripped from her sister's harsh red lips that were only inches from Lettieâs own. She could hear her sisterâs harsh angry breaths. She was pissed.
â Lavina!â Lyria shouted and pulled at her older sister trying to break the two women apart. âWhat the hell?â She asked harshly, the laughter gone.
âThey are birth control pills.â The elder pointed to the box now on the cold wooden floor. All three heads bent down as if to examine the foreign contraception.
â Heâs preventing Letitia from being able to conceive and from her dreamsâŠ.Iâm guessing you had no idea of that?â Her voice was high and erratic echoing harshly off the walls. Her fists balled up tightly next to her hips.
If Letitia didnât skin Finn, her sister certainly would from the looks of her murder filled eyes.
âNo, but how do you knowâŠâ She was cut off abruptly as usual from her more worldly sister.
âBecause I don't want a baby. I'm also not married to a horrible Shelby man! Thank the gods!â She quickly turned, shoving Lyria out of the way as she stormed through the living room and into the kitchen, from what Lettie could tell. Sounded like she was banging a pot.
âWhat are you doing?!â Lettie demanded to know as her sister was clearing herself and dumping out various teas onto her counter and recklessly on her kitchen floor.
âThey are all teas that prevent pregnancy, Lettie. Contraception teas, where did you get these?â Her sister shook a half full glass jar at her. She stilled. No, she didnât want to believe that Finn had done that to her. They talked about having a family and while had had expressed the hope that a baby would come a bit laterâŠLettie had no reason to believe he had been preventing one from being conceived at all. Heâd certainly never told herâŠ.
She stood gripped the chair at her dining room table. Heâd taken a choice from her, no he was sneaky about itâŠ.she hated that more.
âLettie, are you alright?â Lyriaâs small and cool hand landed on her baby sister's shoulder. She flinched, not meaning too. She was suddenly very warm. Like hellâs flames were licking at her skin.
She was going to murder FinnâŠ.or at least severely punish him.
âLyria, grab me the room yeah, we should clean up before we go for a ride to grandma.â Lettie had heard and was grateful to see the elder Naughty MatriarchâŠ..
But God himself wasnât going to help her husband when he called tonightâŠ.he might not want to come back home. ____________________________________________________________________________________________
I know it got dark but I always knew I'd have to address Finn's fear of having a baby from the first 3 chapters....Lettie will develop more personality from her on out. It will get better I promise.

London calling
________________________________________________________
London calling
_________________________________________________________________
  10:48 p.m.
Finn had checked his watch before gently opening the door. It had been a shit show of a day.Â
There had been two emergency Shelby meeting, a boring meeting about a factory in London Tommy was telling Finn to get his arse packed for. He wasnât looking forward to tomorrow at all. A 5 a.m. drive awaited him, for three hours of sitting in a vehicle.Â
He had to stay until Tommy told him to come home. Heâd be rooming next to Arthur at the hotel to boot. No doubt his elder brother would employ a few whores for the evening, encouraging Finn to do the same.Â
He hoped Lyria wasnât here tonight. He found her to be a judgy uneducated little twit. Heâd never tell his wife that though. He secretly hoped sheâd stay while he was gone. Keeping an eye on Letitia for him, keep her company more like it.Â
He found her in the living room chair yawning. She always tried to stay awake for him. He could smell something meaty and breaded still warm from the kitchen.
âLettie, I'm starving, please tell me you kept the cooker on?â He dropped his satchel and kicked off his shoes. He was exhausted. He sat on the couch and looked at her pathetically. She stretched out and nodded, skipping to the kitchen.Â
He was practically salivating when she offered him the plate. He sat straight up and thanked her gobbling it down gratefully. She sat beside him waiting for him to finish.
The plate was clean of any crumbs by the time he was done.Â
âThank you fairy. Hey, listen.â Finn turned his legs towards her and placed her hands in his. She looked like a deer caught on the wrong side of a rifle. She was concerned. â No, luvie, listen in ain't nothing bad just news is all.â He sighed. He was too tired to talk much more.
âLettie, Is Lyria coming by tomorrow? If she does, have her stay with you a bit please. Tommy is sending Arthur and I to Londonto sort stuff out. I donât want you exposed to that cesspool yet so you stay here with your sister and only go out with her if you have to, yeah?â He breathed a sigh of relief when she smiled and nodded. â Iâll ring you on the phone everynight.â He pointed to the little black noise maker, as she called it.Â
âYour uncle Charlie came by today. Your family is housing my mare in his yard.â Her smile was dazzling and he could tell she was trying to contain her excitement.Â
âOh yeah, well you can visit it as long as you have someone go with you. I donât trust people her, Fairy. Stay safe, yeah.â She nodded vigorously. He loved how well she listened.
âDo you ride?â She asked him, clearly hoping heâd say yes. He slumped back and rubbed his eyes. He hated riding, not a big fan or horses. Tommy vehicles were always more of an interest to him than horses and hunting.Â
âIf I have to.â He admitted. He hated watching her deflate a bit. He was from the city. What did she expect?
âCome here.â He pulled her into his lap and over him. She was still stiff but he didnât care. She was getting more comfortable with being affectionate outside of the bedroom.Â
He stroked her back a few times, feeling sleepy trying to claim him.
âLet's go to bed, yeah. I have to get up early tomorrow. Fucking dreading it.âÂ

Lavina goes missing. Mr. Strong seems a strong comparison in Lettie and Finn's mom.
_______________________________________________________
Family Ties
______________________________________________________________
Finn sat at the table staring at Lyria whoâd just bust through his front door in a panic. Sheâd let the cold and light snow flurries in with her. Her black hair flipped around her face like a crazed veil keeping the snow off her reddened chapped cheeks.Â
Finn was sour today after the week's events. Things didnât seem to be going the way he had expected, in literally every aspect of his life. Interruptions and annoyances seemed to be heaping up by the hour.Â
They had gotten back from the pub late, Lettie had fallen asleep while he was speaking which irritated him.Â
Now her sister seemed to be in a panic which meant his kept little wife would be upset by whatever news she had. Probably be anxious all day and too tired to be entertained by him again tonight.Â
Letitia walked in from the living room. Sheâd taken a call for him while he was getting dressed for his day.Â
She looked from her sister to Finn. Concerned over the facial expressions and slumped posture on them both.Â
âWho was it?â Finn asked as he took a huge bite off his toast. He really didnât care.
âIt was your brother, Tommy. He said there is an emergency family meeting. Asked if we could leave immediately.â Her tone was soft and gentle. She could read him so well. He appreciated that she adjusted to him. He dropped the bread down on his plate and opened his arms for her.Â
He had no intention of her ever attending the family meeting. John had been right, the man could make the decisions for his household.Â
She flashed him a brilliant smile and hugged him tightly, crushing his face into her breasts. He loved the height of the dining room chair. It was perfect.Â
Then her sister shattered the peace he was feeling.
âLavina didnât go to the scrap yard last night. Daâs angry.â She sounded winded, ired and scared. Great, now sheâd share her fears with his wife.Â
âDo we have an idea on where she could be? Didnât she go off with Finnâs Nephew?â Lettie looked down at her husband. His head went back and his eyes closed while he faced the ceiling. It was going to be a long day. Â
After a few minutes he sat straight up and rubbed his face, his elbows propped him up on the table. Heâd felt her long fingers start unworking the tension in his shoulders. He relaxed a bit. The longer he sat the more angry his older brothers would get.Â
He patted her hands until she let go. He stood and kissed his little wife goodbye like he did every morning.Â
He stood and walked to the hooks by the door. He grabbed his peaky cap by the door and coat walking out. Heâd muttered something to her about finding out.
âHe seems grumpy in the morning.â Lyria observed. She had been eating at Lettieâs place. The younger woman smiled. It was nice to have some of her old daily routine mixed in with all the newness.Â
The girls often ate off each other's plates in the mountains. Nothing could go to waste. Â
Finn's plate was only partially gone. She felt bad that heâd been called away. She knew he felt useless to his family. It hurt to watch.Â
Lettie turned her attention to her sister intent to get the full story.Â
______________________________________________________
Finnâs day was only snowballing out of control from there.Â
Ada and Tommyâs new venture meant more responsibility and barbs about his lack of ability in the family business. He just wanted to go home where he was appreciated.Â
He also hoped Lettieâs family wasn't staying. They seemed to be mucking stuff up.Â
Sheâd drug herself in with Duke, her father had shown up seething. He had no doubt the drama was going to spill over into his home.Â
He could murder Duke, his anger only growing monthly for Tommyâs bastard son.Â
Heâd been grateful when Charlie had offered to bring Lavina to his home. He had to see a man about horse shoes at the market anyway.
Finn sighed at the manilla folders his brother had unceremoniously stopped in front of him. Heâd be here late tonight.Â
Lettie and her sister had just cleaned up breakfast and were fishing the morning chores when a sharp knock rapped on the door.Â
The man on the deck looked as startled as she felt. He slipped his cap off his greying hair and held it tightly over his heart.Â
âAre you Finnâs wife?â The aging man asked. Lettie smiled, he smelled like woodsmoke and horses. She instantly liked him.Â
âMr. Strong?â Before she could answer, her sister's voice rang out. They seemed to recognize one another. Lettie moved out of the way. She saw her eldest sister jet black hair and tall form ascending the stairs toward her home.
âWhy donât you come in. â Lettie sat everyone down as Lavina strode in completely immune to the worry and anger she caused.Â
âWow, you look so much likeâŠ.Finn's mother.â Charlie Strong, as she had learned his name wasâŠwas staring at Letitia. He seemed almost melancholy and thoughtful as he looked at her, up and down his gaze went. She could almost feel the pain coming off of her.
âFinnâs mother passed away when he was a tiny lad. If you had brown hair, youâd be a spitting image. Iâm surprised Tommy didnât marry you. â This confession took the ladies by surprise. Lettie couldnât imagine being married to Tommy. He was so serious..
âMr. Strong has River at the stalls.â Lavina smiled as her sister's face lit up. Lettie had no idea her horse was so close to her. She missed her daily rides.Â
âIf you want to bring Finn by, I'll have Curly saddle her up. She's a gentle ride.â Lettie beamed at the praise for her sweet horse. A white and grey Mare, her pride and joy.Â
Charlie seemed to enjoy talking about her mare too.Â
âTommyâs mom had bought him a white mare before sheâŠpassed. Weâll stay out of trouble. Probably as far away from the Shelby clan as you can.â He pointed at Lavina who just shrugged and smiled at him. She had no intention of doing that from the dreamy look on her face.Â
Lettie smiled warmly at Mr. Strong who kept stealing glances, even when he passed her window from the outside he couldnât resist one last look.Â
âWeâll heâs quite taken with you!â Her sisters commented.
Lettie turned her gaze to her eldest sister, the disapproval written across her ethereal face making her look like a pissed fairy queen.Â
âSo whoâs bed did you lie in last night?â She asked as if she were the elder sister or her mother.
âDuke Shelbys, and it was nice. I plan on visiting his bed a bit more often.â She replied haughtily. Sheâd come to the city as a gypsy girl and would probably stay a pregnant unwed mother. Her sisters looked upset.
âLavina?!â Both of her sisters descended on her.Â
âWhat if you end up with a child in your womb?â Lettie asked. She was married, it was expected for her to be caring a child soon.Â
âThen heâll have to Marry me and we'll raise our babies together.â She said offhandedly as if her plan was foolproof and perfect.Â
âIâŠâ sisters look at her. âI quit having my monthly after Finn and I married. Heâs not upset by it butâŠ.â Lettie could feel the sting of tears welling up in her eyes. She felt ashamed and embarrassed to bring it up.Â
Lyria rubbed her sister back affectionately and squeezed her into a hug.
Lavina looked at her sister and tilted her headâŠshe was deep in thoughtâŠnever a good thing.Â

Bought by a Shelby -A familiar face
A Familiar Face-
********************Lettie Shelby**********************
Lettie had bounced and squealed with excitement when she flung the door open to reveal her two elder sisters. She stepped out onto the deck and flung her arms tight around the other girls.Â
âWhat are you doing here!? How did you find me!â Lettie was so excited her cheeks hurt from smiling. She thought she was going to have another long and boring day waiting for her overzealous passionate husband to come home.Â
âThomas and Finn left dad a note with your address in case we were ever in the city. We kept asking around since none of us could read and we were led to your door.â Tears glistened in her eyes giving way to a slow burn. She hadnât realized how much she missed her own family. To be far all she really saw was Finn and the occasional blinder whoâd come to fetch Finn for a mission but even then he usually pushed them out before she could respond to their inquiry on how she was doing.
He was a very jealous but kind man.Â
âDa is talking to a Mr. Strong about working with a forge. Heâs near the barge or something. The snow was getting so deep if we didnât make it out nowâŠ.â Lavina trailed off but the younger sister could finish the sentence. They wouldnât have made it to spring.Lettieâs her eldest sister at twenty four stood straight and tall looking down at her fair haired sister. She had long straight raven black tresses always straight and hanging down making her dark brown eyes her feature. Lavina took her looks after their father as did Lyria. She always kept her jet black hair piled high above her head.
Lettie had taken after their mother. Long, white blonde hair that was more wavy than straight, brown eyes and a little heart face. All three looked like sisters, just two more so.Â
âSo where are you staying?!â She asked them to sit down at their little table and rush around to make tea. She was so excited to see them.Â
âWe donât know yet, Da is talking about renting someplace nearby or hitching his wagon at Mr. Strong's yard.â Lettie nodded aggressively excited to have familiar company.
âDo you think youâll rent here? We can run to each other's houses and talk.â Her hands were clasp together hoping against all hope they would be so close by.Â
She opened her door and pushed her sister into the warm little kitchen and dining room eager to show them Finnâs place.Â
âSo, how are things with your mysterious city man?â Lryia asked, leaning forward. Lavina stared at her unimpressed. Lettie hadnât spoken to them since they all saw him by the river. She wondered why Lavina seemed annoyed with Lyria asking about Finn.Â
âYou know, there are much more handsome men in the city. You could go out and meet a few.â There it was, Lavina was interested in ruining her baby sister's life. And why not. She was the eldest. Finn should have picked her, but heâd chosen the baby sister and asked for her hand.Â
âSounds like you should go and meet some. Iâm sure Finn works with a few. He could introduce you perhaps.â She gave her sister a sly smile before sipping her tea silently challenging her to continue.Â
âSo are you happy with him?â Lyria asked sweetly. She was a hopeless romantic. Always dreaming of how sheâd meet the one and how sheâd end up with. All her future children's names were picked out for them and she hadnât even met the man yet.Â
Lettie blushed causing her sisters to laugh at her expense. Finn was kind but stern. He knew what he liked and what he didnât. She was learning he was a particular man who thrived on routine. Opposite of her, however, the mountains never gave you the same experience day in and day out. It was daily survival against the elements, even in the Summer.Â
âWhen he isnât working heâs always chattering away at me and heâs veryâŠ.passionate. Heâs always asking me questions, showing me things and genuinely seems to like me.â She was red now, she could feel the blush consuming her fair face. Her sisters exchanged glances both at very different ends of the spectrum.
âSoâŠis it scary or does it hurt?â Lettie was taken aback by Lyriaâs question. Could she talk about this? Would Finn be upset? He had a lot of pride but she noticed he was also unsure about himself and his abilities at times. She took another deep sip of tea contemplating her answer.
âIt was lovely, he took his time and it only pinched for a minute. It hasnât hurt since.â She said looking down at her tea. Her sisters laughed at her expense.
âThis place is huge! Show us around.â Lavina ordered and stood. Lettie rolled her eyes and got to her feet. She was grateful to not have her relationship questioned.
It was extremely large for what they had grown up in. Finn didnât seem to think so.Â
The girls busied themselves exploring all the new gadgets and gizmos of Lettie's new place.
_______________________________________________________________
Finn walked in excited to show Charlie and Duke his place. Lettie had made it a cozy home instead of a dusty dingy little building. He was excited now to bring people over since having his cousin would be staying a few days. He hoped Duke would fuck off. They still aren't on good terms after the Billy fiasco. Still, he wanted to show her off. He glanced around. She hadnât made dinner. She was always right on time, what else was she doing? What the hell?Â
âLettie, where are you Luvie?â He called out for her and frowned when he heard girls giggling in the den. He stalked forward Charlie and Duke exchanging glances eagerly following their Uncle on his heels.
Finn threw open the door and looked around the room confused. Lettie was showing two dark haired women he didnât know magazines and pointing to things.
Heâd gotten her the magazines to keep her busy with the pictures. Sheâd point at the things and ask him to tell her what they were and why people were interested in them. Sometimes heâd even read her the stories or articles. That was their thing. He was surprised at his jealousy that she was sharing their things with strangers.Â
She was still sitting but smiling up sweetly at him. She was clearly happy.Â
âDid you forget I brought my nephews home for dinner tonight?â He asked red faced, clearly angry at her. She looked down and shook her head. She arose to meet him and placed a short and sweet kiss on his nose. She mouthed that she was sorry.
âMy sisters are in the city, da came out to work for a Mr. Strong.â She said feeling heated and flushed but not from excitement. She was aware of Lavinaâs keen gaze, boring holes through her back with disapproval.Â
âUncle Charlie Strong? So these women are your sisters?â He eased up while pointing to them. She inhaled deeply. Good, he wasnât mad. She wasnât good at handling her own emotions let alone her husbands.Â
He was a very emotional man, her father would have disapproved if heâd seen that side of him. No doubt Lavina would report back.Â
âItâs okay Finn, we can go to the Garrison or something and grab a bite to eat.â Charlie's answers seemed to thrill the dark haired women who nodded. They hated cooking unbeknownst to the men.Â
âCharlie is right, let's take them out yeah, show them Birmingham.â Duke winked at Lavina. She scoffed but smiled under her hair casting her dark gaze on him. He seemed pleased as a rooster in a hen house for her reaction.Â
Finn looked at Lettie. He wasnât ready to share her with the world yet but what choice did he have? Dinner would take too long here.
âOkay, grab your coats, let's go out.â He followed Lettie into the bedroom ready to have a stern talking to with her.Â
âFinn, yell at your women later, let's go, we're hungry.â Duke didnât even let him get the words out. Lettie turned looking at Finn with her large innocent eyes. It had been an accident. He nodded and grabbed a heavier coat.Â
âCome on, they ain't staying the night. Charlie is in the guest room.â Finn wanted her and turned to go meet his family.Â
âWe have a guest room?â She asked for an empty room. That was handy knowledge.Â
          _________Garrison_____________________________
The girls were extremely uncomfortable. The men didnât mind. That gave them women to claim and spend the evening cuddling up to in the booth.Â
Lettie found out Charlie was still a teen so she found it humorous that he was cuddling up to her twenty year old sister.Â
Finn was irritated but relieved that his wife seemed to be struggling while out. He wanted to take her to finer places and still would, heâd have to get her comfortable first going out into places with people. Everyone was loud in the city.
The pub was loud, gregarious and overly decedent with its gleaming column and bright shining lights everywhere. Garish, was the word Lavina had mouthed.Â
Finn tugged his wife closer, practically half leaning on his lap. He didnât mind if she hated it here and definitely didnât want her to fall prey without him by her side at the Garrison or anywhere here.Â
âSo how long are you here for?â Lettie asked his brothers as they dipped hard pieces of bread into some cheesy sauce. The men seemed to enjoy it. The women were just trying to get by.
âI live around here.â Duke smiled and winked at Lavina who laughed and tossed her head. Lettieâs eyes got huge at the realization that she actually kinda liked Duke. She was usually pretty aloof and standoffish towards men. Â
She leaned into Finn and whispered something in his ear. He smirked and winked at Duke. That was all the encouragement he needed to ask her away for a more private conversation.Â
âHow old is your cousin?â Lyria asked Finn while cramming her head trying to see where her elder sister went. The pub was too crowded to see anyone standing properly.Â
âHeâs twenty two, why?â Finn asked Lyria. He found it to be an interesting pairing himself but if Duke was busy then he wasnât bugging Finn.Â
âThey are only two years apart then,I'm just curious.â She was planning something. Lettie was grilling like a fool and snuggled into Finn.Â
âHow old are you?â Charlie asked Lyria who smirked and raised her eyebrow clearly not impressed with his inquiry.Â
âIf you have to ask, then Iâm too old for you.â The girls erupted into giggles causing poor Charlie blushes.
âMy first time was with a woman older than me Charlie, donât let them get into your head.â Finn goaded his cousin on hoping it didnât get him into trouble.
âFinn.â Lettie scolds him gently. He just winked at Charlie.

Finn forgets to tell his fiancé that he got married.
Mentions abusive relationship.*

*********************THE OTHERWOMAN**************************
Finn left a happy man. Heâd had his first home cooked breakfast since heâd left Pollyâs house years before. She had made him ham and eggs. He was pleased when sheâd gobbled down her food too. Apparently sheâd never had ham.
He promised to bring her out to a dinner club soon. He was intent on spoiling her.
He honestly couldnât wait to show her a live band, alcohol and dancing. He hoped when he did, sheâd like it. There was so much he wanted to do with her.
Seven thirty hit and heâd told her heâd be back by five for dinner. Kissing his little wife, who had to stand on her tippy toes to kiss him, he slipped on his hat and out his door practically bouncing down the stairs to his vehicle.
Domestic bliss suited him.
No sooner had he pushed open the door to Tommyâs office did his elder brother descend on him.
âFinn, did you tell your fiancĂ© that you married a gypsy girl yet?â Tommy was pissed, the vein on his forehead was pooping out and his jaw was set tight. Finn was confused. Why was this Tommy business, not that his elder brother never medaled frequently into his family's lives.
âI had to buy her clothes and stuff last night. No, also my wedding night, you didnât give me time for a honeymoon so no, I havenât found time.â Finn raged back. Why couldnât he handle his own life without someone in his family telling him he was doing everything wrong? Tommy locked a hard gaze with Finn. He was pissed already at 8 a.m. Today was going to be a rough day in the office.
He could feel the sweat forming on his back and down his neck. It wasnât hot in the office. He was now sweating bullets in fear of what Myra would say or do, especially to Lettie who was alone and didnât know that Finn had been previously engaged.
â Myra just called the shop looking for you. I told her you werenât here. Before I could say anything else she hung up on me.â Tommy glared at Finn as the realization dawned on him.
âShit, do you think she's headed to the apartment?â Finn felt pure panic settle in. Lettie was there at the house cooking and cleaning.
âGo, take the day off. Get your life in order Finn.â Tommy yelled as Finn took off running to his car. He hoped heâd gotten there first.
______________________________________________________________
He parked in front of the apartment, tires squealing to a stop. He nodded and tried greeting people who nodded and tried exchanging pleasantries.
He was huffing and puffing, practically pulling his own body weight up the stairs by the time he reached his own floor.
He placed the key in the lock and turned. It didnât click, unless Lettie disobeyed him and went out on the balcony, someone was here.
His stomach dropped and churned. God, he didnât want to go in. He took a deep breath of frigid air wishing it would steal the breath from his lungs and save him from whatever explanation or mortification that lay in that apartment right now.
He flung open the door and was met with Letitciaâs large doe eyes staring into his soul. She looked terrified and he noticed Myraâs steely gray eyes predatorily locked with his. She was holding Lettieâs hand in a vice grip, her fingers digging into his wifeâs hand. Finn took a step forward toward the table and gripped the red head's wrist tightly forcing her to let go. She recoiled her hand and rubbed it glaring at Finn. She looked hurt and confused.
What the hell had been said?!
Lettie pulled her hand into her lap and glanced at Finn. She looked like a rabbit caught in a thicket.
âIâm sorry.â He mouthed silently. He tapped her shoulder and pointed to the living room. She quickly scrambled up and headed toward the room slamming the door. He felt awful and wondered how Myra had gotten in to his home. Heâd never given her a key and he hoped when heâd told Lettie to stay inside and not answer the door, that sheâd have listened to him. He was just trying to keep her safe didnât she understand that? This was Birmingham for Godâs sake! Not the mountains.
âI was trying to talk to your maid, she appears mute. You should dismiss her, Finn. I have an older aunt whoâd love to work for you.â Myra smiled lovingly at him. He knew she could be emotionally manipulative, after all thatâs why most of his income had gone to her on her little whims. Sheâd accuse him of not loving her. If that tactic didn't work then she threatened to leave him for any handsome man whoâd treat her better. He shook his head. Heâd been a fool to think she cared about him and that was normal. To be fair though, he hadnât seen a lot of healthy relationships growing up so how would he have known?
âMyra, how did you get in here?â He sat down opposite of her and took off his cap searching her face for the truth. There was only one key and multiple locks.
âI picked it silly. Did you forget last week how resourceful I was, Finny bear? We used to go on peaky missions together and that was my job.â
âDonât call me that.â Finn snapped. He didnât know where this new found confidence was coming from but he was grateful for it. He hated that name and made him feel like a little child. He was too engrossed with Myra's flashing green eyes to notice the door cracked from the living room.
âFinn, Iâm sorry. I didn't know you were having a bad day. Why donât we go out, play in some snow and you can buy my dinner and then, after food, if your a good boy weâll come back here and fuck.â She stood up and walked around Finn who was seething with anger. She placed her hands on his shoulders and tried rubbing the tension out. He shrugged her off, roughly sending her back a good foot. He turned leaning menacingly over her, putting his finger in her face. Heâd never been this stern with her. He felt like he was disciplining her, finally putting her in her place. âI am so fucking sick of everyone telling me what to do, when I should do it and that Iâm doing it for them!â Finn towers over her and leans down.
âIâm sick of you taking, and taking thinking a quick fuck will make it worth the financial and emotional pain you put me through. I'm tired of you cheating on me, yeah I know! I know all seven times Myra!â He roared. She rose up on her tiptoes in defiance to meet him with a hardened sneer of her own. They fought plenty of times. Arthur said Myra could have held her own against Bonnie Gol in a fight. He hadnât been joking. She wasnât against throwing her weight or fist around if need be.
âBack up Finn, what the hell got into you! Did Tommy set you up? Tell you we were done.â She yelled at him. He wanted to clamp his hand around her mouth but he knew better. Sheâd bite. It had happened before that it had stopped her from doing it to him and pushing his head.
âI did something for me, Myra. I made Tommy trudge through the cold wet snow for an hour and have negotiations for a dowry and then he trudged back in a fucking blizzard for me. Iâm married. Myra. To Letitia Shelby, sheâs my wife, not my maid. My wife!â Finn waits until she backs down on the flats of her feet. An array of conflicted emotions flashed across her face like a raging tide pushing and pulling violently. She settled on anger.
âYou know what Finn, I was excited to Marry a Shelby because of your family name, reputation and money. Iâm keeping the ring, maybe I'll sell it and buy myself some nice things. Enjoy your boughten, mousy, backwaters whore.â She turned and slammed his front door. The force had been so much that it had swung back in retaliation and slapped her on the ass.
Finn laughed relieved for a break in tension. He watched the kitchen window to make sure heâd seen the top of her red head trail towards the landing. He could hear her angry footsteps as she descended down the staircase. He grabbed the door and closed it firmly.
Turning his attention to the living room door he walked a few paces and gently opened it. He looked around the small room finding her by the window perched on the sill like a white cat not looking at him.
âHey, Lettie, Luvie, IâmâŠâ He faltered as he placed his large warm hands on either side of her shoulders. She turned her head slightly, obscuring his view of her through her flowing locks. He reached up and brushed it away from her face, hooking it gently behind her ear.
It surprised him at the way he was with one woman versus the other.
He and Myra fought and fucked for dominance each one trying to prove the other was the submissive.
Lettie, his little fairy princess, watched him, waited and could be easily spoken to and led. He let out a sigh and put his head on hers breathing her in.
âI messed that up. Iâm sorry. I was engaged to someone who clearly didnât love me. I was desperate to have someone, anyone who wanted me around that,â He pushed and took a ragged breath. He hadnât even admitted this to himself let alone another living soul. He hated feeling weak, for allowing himself and Myra to almost settle just for the sake of feeling something.
âAnyway, I saw what a good woman you are. Iâm glad I chose you Lettie.â He kissed her on the head and turned to go lay down for a bit. Fighting with his now ex fiancĂ© left him exhausted. He closed his eyes, grateful for the sleep that claimed him. Not realizing his wife sat looking out the window by herself for several hours questioning her new life. ************************************************************************

Finn brings his wife home
Chapter Text
Heâd taken Letitia shopping before going home and showing her their apartment. Grateful heâd brought his own car for their shopping trip. She was more talkative with just the two of them.
He was pretty sure she now knew all of Birmingham since she pointed to everything and patiently waited for him to tell her what it was and how people were.
She had been so overwhelmed by the stores. An open market would be better and heâd found a few. Sheâd purchased some wool and knitting supplies. Heâd helped her pick out linens for their bed and bought her clothes.
He felt proud when she asked him for his opinion on literally everything. She bounced around unbothered by the fog, smog and large masses of people. She only had eyes on him. He loved the feeling. He felt powerful, seen and important being around her.
âWhat do you like to eat, what do you think of this color? Would this look okay on me standing next to you?â His head was almost spinning but heâd never had this much fun shopping with a girl, ever. She drugged him to every stall ohhing and ahhing like a child. He loved seeing the world through her eyes.
It wasnât harsh, violent or cruel. Just new, exciting and sweet.
He had however been unpleasantly surprised to find out she couldnât read or write. He loved music, to be read to and he now knew she wasnât coming to work with him.
Heâd drug her into a book store and was reading titles and covers to her. She seemed interested until he was flipping through the black and white pages.
His soul had been crushed when she told him she didnât understand how he could see these things, they were just scribbles to her.
He found it really tragic. She had a beautiful voice and heâd caught her humming in the car. Everyone, even Ada, had smiled on the way back to civilization.
He wanted to hear her sing and read to him. He was considering a tutor or figuring out a way to teach her letters and numbers, how to write, It was overwhelming.
He could hear Ada's voice in his head.â It doesn't have to be done all in one day Finn.â He knew that. It was just something to figure out sooner rather than later.
âItâs getting dark Love. Let's head back yeah. We can make a list together and figure stuff out later, yes.â She jumped towards him and hugged him tight. He found himself melting into her and squeezing her back. He hoped it stayed this easy between them At least for a while.
************************************************************************
She walks around the house several times. He felt so overwhelmed by how underwhelming everything was. He really didnât have much furniture or anything nice. He spent most of his money on Myra and stuff for her or cocaine. Letitia had come with nothing and he enjoyed spoiling her today.
She placed a green cloth on the table with some candles. In the dining room. Sheâd bought a plant but the Chinese lady assured him it had no toxic qualities. So now when you walked in there were two small little pops of color.
They had a small living room next to the bedroom and bath. Sheâd bought a little cream throw and placed it over his chair. He felt bad for a moment only having one place to sit until heâd realized she could sit on his lap while he read the paper or listened to music on the gramophone.
He had a red rug from Polly, chair, fireplace and one old mirror above the mantle from Polly's house. He couldnât take much when Tommy was clearing it out after sheâd passed. It hadnât felt right to pick apart the bones of her home just because sheâd died. He also had a lamp and a wooden magazine holder. Out of all the rooms this was the one he spent his time in other than the bed.
Sheâd put a vase with red roses on the mantle. He grinned. Heâd told her he liked blues, greens and reds. She seemed to pick those out even in garments for her to wear.
She had a small bottle of oil for her hair. That's all she wanted toiletry wise. Heâd try again to buy her perfume around Christmas. She didnât smell like much of anything but wood smoke at the moment from the campfires they lit to cook and keep warm.
Heâd been pleased by the bedroom. She bought all manner of bedding. Apparently she had a canopy at home which kept the bugs out in the summer and heat in the winter. Sheâd layer and add a few candles and roses. Layers of whites, creams, laces and pillows. It looked like Heaven.
Myra had never once suggested this. It was warm, inviting and cozy against the dark brown woods in the room.
______ (*Finnâs thought and 1920âs attitude/ not authors) __________
She stood back and waited for him to inspect it. Her hands were clasp up by her face, she was so excited. God, she was cute.
âIt's an amazing luvie, honestly. Feels like a home now. One day soon I will get some pictures and art for the walls, yes.â She preened and bounced at his praises. He couldnât stop smiling, his cheeks were starting to hurt. If this is what John felt after he married Esme, then he understood the concept of love at first sight.
âCome er.â He swept her up into his arms and kissed her lips. He wanted a deeper kiss, she smacked him when he nibbled on her lower lip. Her eyes were wide and she covered her mouth with her hands.
âWhat the fuck was that for?â They both stood stunned. He could tell her heart was thundering in her chest. Heâd kissed her at the altar but sheâd turned her head blushing furiously. It dawned on him that sheâd never been kissed.
He shook his head. Mountain gypsies were definitely their own people.
âIt was just to deepen the kiss luv, Jesus.â he touched his cheek. Sheâd gotten him good. No doubt it would be red for a few hours. Her eyes were on her feet.
He hugged her tightly again and lifted her chin up, her brown eyes glistened with tears.
âItâs okay Lettie, you just scared me was all. I was just trying to slip my tongue in. Give you a proper kiss.â He almost wanted to laugh at the absurdity of it all. Heâd seen so much before he was eleven, even walked in on his brothers a few times and their whores. John was especially bad at locking his bedroom door.
âA proper kiss?â Her large doe eyes blinked up at him.
âYeah, When I kiss you, on the lips, open your mouth a bit and let my tongue in. put your lips over mine. Follow my lead, yeah.â He grinned. Heâd never had to tell anyone how to kiss before.
She was a quick under study even if she was still a bit stiff. He placed his hands on her waist and explored her a bit with his hands. She pushed away against his chest rearing back when he grabbed her firm ass.
âGod, you're so beautiful Lettie. You look like a fairy princess that I stole from the woods.â Finn bent down and kissed her neck and face. She leaned into him but woodenly.
âDid they tell you what happened on your wedding night?â He felt like an ass asking. Sheepish and young but he knew more about sex out of them both, he had the most experience.
âYes, a bit.â She blushed her cheeks going crimson flushing out against her ivory skin.
âJust trust me and listen eh. Iâll go slow and try to be gentle, yes.â She nodded as he pulled back.
â Iâm going to get you out of this dress, then you can help me out of my clothes.â He was amazed at how confident he felt and sounded. Most of the time girls made him feel silly or would ruin the moment. She was so innocent and unsure she just stayed quiet and trusted him. There really was a person for everyone.
He untied her sash on her dress, mindful that her hands almost came out to stop him. He had to go slower than he'd even thought he wasn't sure if he had the patience. He didnât want to fuck this up. Slow was worth it in the end for someone like her.
He gasped when he slid the dress off her shoulders and it pooled on the floor. She was stunning and well proportioned for such a thin girl. Her waist was more defined than heâd realized. Being buried under blankets and layers did her no favor. He loved her small pert little breasts and her ass, God, it was perfect.
He leaned in kissing her, feeling her melt into him this time. He was now warmer than her and very aware from her little goose bumps forming on her pale creamy skin that he needed to get her under the covers soon. It was much warmer here then the mountain but it was a different, more vulnerable type of cold in their bedroom.
He pulled back giving them both time to catch their breath. He pulled the chains off his arms and started unbuttoning his shirt. He was pleasantly surprised when she helped him with the buttons undressing him faster.
She wanted him too.
After sheâd stripped him of his shirt and heâd tossed it she started kissing his neck and running her soft long fingers up and down his chest, waist and back just taking him all in.
He ran his fingers through her hair encouraging her to keep exploring. Heâd never had someone worship him like this. He could wait to touch her back.
She got to the band of his pants and her head went down. She was faltering now.
âItâs okay. Go lay down in the middle of our bed, I'll be right there.â She bit her lip, that drove him crazy, he was already hard for her. Now he was severely uncomfortable. When she turned her back he dropped his trousers and boxers. The air didnât discourage his raging erection at all. He was happy about that.
He walked around the bedpost and smiled down at her. She reached out and stroked him. He moaned and she pulled her hand back.
âPut your hand back right now Lettie!â He sounded firm even to himself but that had felt amazing. She hadn't pumped him just to get him to get off like other girls. She had a light touch and a long soft stroke.
She was pink all over from embarrassment.
âItâs okay, it felt amazing luvie. Really really good.â He sat down next to her pulling the covers down further. âIâm going to stroke you too, donât be embarrassed okay. We're married now, there's nothing dirty between us.â She nodded weakly with her head against the pillows. He was thrilled she wasnât trembling. Heâd slept with the grocers girl several months back, she acted like a little rabbit. He pulled out half way and had refused to be with her. She made him nervous and upset, Lottie was just waiting for him obediently. He stroked her gently until she sighed and relaxed. He planted kisses on her stomach, thighs and legs.
Her hands roamed around his shoulders, arms and into his thick hair. She was affectionate and attentive.
âAlright, try not to clench, Iâll move when you nod okay. Iâll go slow but Lettie, I mean it, try to relax.â She nodded and he slowly pushed, watching her face never taking his eyes off her. She was listening beautifully.
âOkay, I'm in luv. Try to match my thrust a bit, lift your hips yeah.â Finn buried his face in her neck as he stroked gently in and out.
Her pace wasnât perfect at first, he hadnât expected it to be. However as pressure and pleasure mounted for them both of them were in sync.
âGod, Iâm so glad I married you. I promise youâll never be hungry again, I'll take good care of you princess.â She came just before him, arching off the bed and then wrapping her legs tightly around him holding him in her deeply as the aftershocks elicited little sighs and moans of approval from her.
âOh, good girl. Good girl.â He panted into her hair as his releases spilled over him as well. ______________________________________________________________

Bought By a Shelby Part 3
Winter Wedding
_______________________________________________________
Finn paced the tent making Ada nervous. He was wearing a line in the ground where he paced.
âWill you sit down? Goodness, you have one idea that your brothers actually agree with and you look like you're being shipped off to war.â Ada chastised him but it had no effect. He was lost in his own anxiety and spiraling. Ada looked at Tommy and gestured to Finn.
âWhat if she hates me or poisons my coffee?â He didnât ask anyone in particular, the weight of what he wanted was bearing down on him now. âWhat if she hates Birmingham and runs away.â That last truth was the one he couldnât get out of his mind. She was pretty and ethereal, what if someone else thought that too and she left him.
âWell Finn, you treat her right and sleep with her often. And you don't drink coffee.â Tommy said dryly but his lopsided grin gave him away. Finn glared at him but at least slowed down.
âKeep her locked in the house with just you to get to know, watch out for herbal teas, these women could kill you with just plants.â Arthurs advice caused Finn to stop and gesture at him. Why had he said that?
âWhat the hell Arthur, how was that helping me?â He asked. That was literally something he feared.
âWhat is wrong with the two of you?â Ada asked. She was getting a sore throat from all of her yelling and scolding the three men since 3 a.m. Everyone knew her stance. She was dead set against this.
âItâs just another step in becoming a man, Finn.â Tommy said, lighting a cigarette. He told Finn this morning that heâd be proud of his decision. He hoped that early praise wasnât said too soon.
âI thought that whore you all paid for when I was a teen was my becoming a man?â Finn challenged. Heâd remembered that. He hated that experience. While he had frequented places with whores since it didnât really make him feel grown up.
âOne step at a time baby brother. One step at a time.â Tommy came up and helped straighten out his suit and coat. Theyâd given him a sprig of berries for color against his dark suit. Tommy pinned it on Finn and grabbed his face with his hands. He looked like a proud father. Finn looked away as did Tommy. The moment is too much for either.
âWhat other steps are there?â He dared to ask. He knew heâd be shocked. Better to get it all out now as Tommy would say.
âA baby.â Arthur piped up. Finn froze and looked at Ada who had absolutely no sympathy on her face for him whatsoever. Sheâd gotten pregnant before sheâd married. Finn had been old enough to remember.
âA baby, fuck, I don't want kids, at least not yet.â He said out loud. His pacing began again.
âIt's the 1930âs Finn, contraceptives work much better than ever before.â Tommy grabbed him once more. âNo more pacing Finn. youâll be a happily married man by the end of the day.â
â You think you're man enough to get married but scared of having a kid? Jesus.â Ada laughed. This was ludicrous.
âThat sounds good, no kids yet, I'll get them tablets tonight yeah.â Finn looked so relieved to have an out. It's not that he disliked him. He just didnât want any, at least not right now.
âFinn, It takes two weeks for them to work.â Ada chastised the men again, shaking her head. How can they possibly be in charge when she was clearly smarter.
âFind out when her last bleed was. You should be okay. If it's within a two week mark.â Tommy was getting ready to walk out with his family. He started tearing things down. Arthur and Finn got to work while Ada stormed out to the car.
âYou wanted some brotherly time Finn, now you got it.â Arthur laughed as Finn got swallowed by the tent collapsing around him.
_________________________________________________
The wedding was stunning especially for such a small group. The day was unusually warm and everyone had managed to pull together to create an arch filled with lush greenery, pine cones and deep red berries tied throughout. A several small ginger cakes and warm alcoholic drinks were on tables pulled from various Vardos to celebrate. Warm fires were also spackled around the clearing.
They said their vows to one another, Her eyeâs never leaving his face. She never shook or cried. Just looked at him starry eyed. Finn was grateful nothing was said about God, just some random goddess and love.
She looked amazing as he had predicted with a little bit of color to her cheeks. Rouge or some kind was on her lips looking red and full.
Her grandmother, the witch who frightened him a bit, had given her a tiara sheâd worn fifty years ago. She looked like a snow queen in golds, crystals and red.
Finn couldnât be happier to exchange the cash with her father, for his lovely bride's hand. He was eager to get her back to his place.
Letitcia Shelby was now his to have and to hold forever. In this life and the next. Blessed be. ***************************************************************************************
Heâd noticed it when they were loading in the car. She wasnât bringing anything with her.
âShe comes to you as is Finn, you're her provider now.â Tommy sat down next to Arthur and looked out the window. Ada sat near Lettie, eager to stay away from Finn. Sheâd never left the car. Refused to even look at his bride.
âThey donât let her keep anything?â Ada asked. âNot a ring or a nightgown?â
Finn took a deep breath in and looked at her. She shook her head. She was coming home with him in a black dress and boots. No blankets, coats or anything to her name.
It pissed him off to be honest. She had to leave everything behind. Literally everything. He's surprised they didnât send her home naked. He smirked at that thought, grateful she wasnât. Heâd already spent all night long dreaming of the things he wanted to show her when she got home.
He pulled her into him and she laid her head on his shoulder looking out the window. They looked like newlyweds in love. Neither one knew more than the other's name.
She was terrified but knew better than to speak up. She wondered if heâd be gentle and patient. His brother was observant, always staring at her like her soul was bare and he was picking through her thoughts. She shivered. He'd taken off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
It was the longest, most silent ride heâd even taken unaware of his new bride's trepidation. ____________________________________________________
