Pairing: Finnick Odair x Reader

Describtion:

A few years before Katniss and Peeta win the games, there is a twelve year old girl from District 12 who is blind that has to go into the arena. She survives because most of the other tributes pity her and protect her from the others and eventually kill themselves so the girl can survive. She has no family that would take care of her in her new house.

After her win, the doctors in the Capitol managed for her to regain her sight. If Haymitch wouldn’t have been so deep in his alcohol addiction, he would have taken the girl in and cared for her, but he knew that she’d be unhappy with him and deserved more. He talked to a friend in the Capitol, who talked to his wife and the two decided to more or less adopt the girl until she was old enough to care for herself.

The girl is in the Capitol during the events of the 74th Hunger Games and watches everything from there. She is 18 by that and can go back to District 12. At the celebration after the Hunger Games, she surprises Haymitch, who has always been like a father to her.

She goes back to District 12 with the rest and begins her life there. She becomes friends with Katniss and Peeta and of course knows everything. She accompanies them on the Victory Tour. Later, when the 75th Hunger Games are announced she also trains with the others. But her relationship with Katniss doesn’t do her well and so, she is forced to attend the Hunger Games additional to Katniss. This is where she meets Finnick.

Beside me, a warm body stirred, and my eyes snapped down. My muscles tensed up and I clenched my jaw, ready to strike or take a hit if need be. But I relaxed when I recognized the body. Finnick had turned around during his sleep, now facing me. A soft smile played on my lips. I raised my hand to push some of his hair back, it had fallen onto his face. But with this simple gesture, I woke him up and his tribute instincts took over. He grabbed my wrist and used the momentum and my surprise to turn us over, him on top of me with a trident to my neck. I actually started to laugh at his reaction and the sleep quickly cleared from his eyes. “Y/N…!” He let his trident sink and leaned his forehead against mine, taking a deep breath. I chuckled. “Sorry, didn’t want to disturb your sleep.” He shook his head and relaxed his body, letting it sink on top of mine. I quickly wrapped my arms around his firm body, enjoying every kind of affection we could show each other in here. Finnick rested his head on my chest, taking deep and even breaths, while my chest still moved with every quiet chuckle that escaped my lips. When I finally managed to calm down, I started to rake my fingers through Finnick’s hair, gently massaging his scalp. He sighed, enjoying my touch, just when Katniss and Peeta came into the picture. They were holding hands and told us that they are tired and that they’d go to sleep now. Finnick and I got up to take the next watch. We were currently sitting on the beach and just stared at the small waves, leaning against each other. I couldn’t believe that I was in an arena. Again. After everything that had happened. I sighed and closed my eyes, thinking back to the moment when president Snow told everyone in Panem that the winners everyone had learned to love, would have to fight again.

I knew where I had to go first, but I was too late. When I arrived at Katniss’s house, she was already gone. My next choice would’ve been Peeta, but I knew that he got by on his own and that there was another person who would need more of my attention then the others. I ran over to Haymitch’s house and arrived just in time to meet Peeta at the front door. Before any of us could say something, we fell into each other’s arms. “Are you okay?” His voice came out in a sigh and I just nodded. “Katniss?” I shook my head before I looked Peeta in the eyes. “She isn’t in her house. Ran away as soon as she realized what his words mean.” Peeta nodded and sighed, rubbing his forehead. “Don’t worry Peeta. We’ll give her a few hours. She’ll come back on her own. I know that.” He nodded again. He knew that I was right. Katniss would never leave her family behind. And that included Gale, Haymitch, Peeta and me aside from her real family. After both of us sighed once more, we wished each other a good night and I watched as Peeta walked to his front door and into his house. Then I turned back to Haymitch’s front door, which I just opened without knocking. I found Haymitch in his usual spot at the kitchen table, a bottle in his hand. When his eyes found my approaching form, he tried to sit up straight and hide the bottle from my sight, but it was too late. He sighed and let his head fall into his hands. “You arrren’t supposssssed to sssssee me like that.” I rolled my eyes and sat down beside him. He had always tried to keep this side of himself from me, trying to protect me from the truth, but I knew. Everyone knew. I took his left hand in mine and gave it a tight squeeze. “It’s okay. I just wanted to check in on you. See that you’re not doing anything stupid.” He chuckled dryly. “Me doing something stupid? Never.” I laughed and nodded. We dwelled in a few moments of silence, before I stood up and pressed a quick kiss against his cheek. “Try not to drink too much, okay?” He nodded and send me a drunk smile, before I left his house and went back to mine. I spent the night calling friends from other Districts, talking to them, forming a plan.

The next day, Katniss, Peeta, Haymitch and I started to train. Gale, Prim and Katniss’s mom helped us too and after some time we were fairly well in combat and survival. I also started to talk to Haymitch about the plan I formed with the winners of some of the other Districts. We all had agreed quickly that the main planning would have to wait until we were all in the Capitol, since we were scared that the government may listen in on our conversations. We also agreed to leave Peeta and Katniss in the dark about this since they already had enough problems.

And then the big day came.

DARK!BROMANCE

Hey guys. These days are really hard and exhausting to me so I’m not very active (ok, I’m not active at all, lol). Kids are sick again and I’m just… tired. But I managed to draw something today ;)

@daydreamsandcaffeine requested Peeta and Finnick bromance via my Buy Me a Coffee Cheese Bun and I took the liberty to draw my AU version of these characters. Maybe someone remembers my dark!peeta illustration? So, that’s the same universe. Peeta and Finnick are close friends. They share luxurious Capitol penthouse, long (and sometimes even enjoyable) party nights (like on this illustration), a lot of alcohol and funny stories about their clients. Ok, sometimes not so funny. Peeta lives in the Capitol, Finnick spends around 80% of his time there too. So they became good friends even though Finnick is 8 years older (Peeta is 19 year old here, he is the 76th HG Victor). I have no idea why these people live in my head but I think ff writers will understand lol. Unfortunately I’m not a writer so I can’t get rid of them! Ugh. So maybe that will help a bit ;) I love Peeta and Finnick as friends SO MUCH. SOOOOOO MUCH.

One Day

The moment Finnick stepped a foot into the penthouse, Effie was on him, fussing like a mother hen, making strangled noises and smoothing the creases of his shirt like it was the most important thing in the world.

Haymitch shared a look with Chaff, rolled his eyes and gently but firmly steered her away from the boy. If the other senior victor from Four was to be believed, Finnick was black and blue – and Stella wasn’t prone to exaggeration, except where Brutus was concerned…

“You’re okay, kid?” he asked, a little worried.

He kept a firm hold on Effie’s arm because she looked like she wanted to fly right back to the boy and check him over again. For the most part, Finnick looked fine except for a stitched up gash over his eyebrow that hopefully wouldn’t leave a scar.

Ok, question #1. How did you pick everyone's cars for the FF/THG crossover?? What was your thought process for that? 🤔

OK #2 How often do you take inspiration from your surroundings when you write a story? Do you enjoy inserting landmarks and local culture??

Just curious because I really enjoy reading your stories and want to know more about your whole writing style and your overall inspiration and process.

Hey love! First off, sorry this took so long!

Prepare for a lengthy response, due to a lengthy (reminder) discussion with Hubbs about why we chose the cars for TPONR.

#1. For Peeta, we chose the Skyline because Paul Walker's character (Brian) used them primarily in the Fast movies, and even owned one personally. Katniss, we chose the Integra because Mia (Jordana Brewster) drove one in the series. Personally, I like the Intergra. We decided on Haymitch's Barracuda because we wanted a classic American muscle car, an oldie but goodie like him. For Johanna, we saw her as a drifter like Katniss, but she's more orthodox in her technique. A car like Nissan 370-Z with a front engine, rear wheel drive works best for her, unlike Katniss' car which is a front engine, front wheel and is more of a challenge to drift with.

Gale, we picked the Dodge Viper because we thought of him as someone who would pick something that has all power but no handle. In Hubbs' words, a "big dick" car. Finnick was given the Shelby GT 500 because we thought of him as wanting something classical but a more updated version. He's a no frills, jack-of-all-trades driver and we wanted his car to reflect that. Annie, we wanted something flashy with no modifications. She used her car show modeling money and wanted something straight out of the showroom. Annie's not the best driver in the crew but she holds her own and can handle her Porsche 911 Turbo well. Thresh, we chose the Mazda RX-7 because it was something agile and we imagine as a driver, he'd be good with circuit driving, as well driving on curved roads (that a lot of SF hills have). We chose a Dodge Charger for Beetee because he is more technical and didn't want anything that he needed to modify. The car is what it is; for him, it's more about adding tech in it than fixing it up. Gloss and Brutus are essentially muscle men so they needed a car with quick maneuverability like the Toyota GR 86 to get away from any shady dealings.

#2. I take inspiration from my surroundings ALL the time. "Two Wrongs" is basically a love letter to San Francisco. I love giving readers a little slice of places I've been and experiences I've had because it makes my words real.

For example, Katniss is going to experience her very first lowrider cruise in the next part of TPONR.

I read the fic ‘Misconceptions’ by the melon lord 2.0 and it’s one of my favorites that I didn’t expect to like because of the ship but now it’s one of my favorite thg fics ever. i know you asked for finnick/annie fic recs and my absolute favorite fic from back in the day thg fandom is "have heart, my dear" from monroeslittle on ff (all of her thg fics are great), the primary ship is very much peeta/katniss but that one in particular has so many beautiful family!odesta feelings that to this day it's still one of my favorite iterations i saw of that pairing and universe

The first thing Effie saw when she opened her eyes was Johanna pacing.

Briefly, she wondered if the young woman had gone to sleep at all or if she had kept pacing the whole night. She hadn’t meant to fall asleep herself, hadn’t thought she would even be able to given that she had already slept a good chunk of the previous afternoon away, but…

When she had finally gathered her courage to come back to Johanna’s compartment the previous day, it was to find Annie had decided to go back to the room she used to share with Finnick. Johanna had let her in but hadn’t said more than a few words, not in hours. Effie had remained quiet, simply happy not to be kicked out the door again.

She didn’t know how to comfort the younger woman anyway.

She didn’t have the words. Or the experience.

Everlark Author Tag

@iliveilaughiloveiread and @awkwardeverlark both tagged me in this a bit ago and I’m just now getting to it, I’m so sorry for the delay!  

1.     What inspired you to start writing Everlark fanfiction?

Hahaha.  The first fanfiction I ever wrote (before kids) was for Star Trek, back when I was in college.  My boyfriend at the time (now husband) and I went on a watching binge of all five Star Trek shows and I got really into it for awhile.  Then my girls started arriving and I barely had time to read, let alone come up with possible story ideas.  I still managed to read the HG books a few times, and then once my hubby brought home the 4-disc blu-ray set of the movies it was like my mind just exploded with ideas.  I started devouring HG fanfiction, and following more blogs on Tumblr, and... that, as they say, was that.  🤓. I’m a big fan of the “what if” question, so I thought of a few ideas and just ran with them.

2.     How did you choose your handle name (tumblr, ao3, ff)?

Well, it fits me pretty well.  😉. I’m geeky, I love movies (and books), and I’m a mom.  geekymoviemom.

3.     Any other THG pairings you ship?

Definitely Finnick/ Annie.  I adore Finnick and I still haven’t been able to kill him off in any of my stories because of it.  I also have shipped Peeta’s middle brother with Madge and Gale/ Madge.  I also like Delly/ Thom.

4.      Favorite character to write?

Definitely Peeta.  I find Katniss really hard to like sometimes, and so it’s hard for me to think I’m getting her voice correct when I write in her POV.  I’ve done it, and hopefully I’ve done it well, but she’s definitely a challenge.

5.     Weird habits while writing?

I like to have quiet when I’m writing, which isn’t easy with a houseful of homeschooled girls!  I do most of my writing when they’re on their afternoon “quiet time.”  I can edit with noise or music going, but I need quiet to actually write.

6.     Any advice for other Everlark writers?

Don’t be afraid!  The Everlark fandom is sooo kind and accepting, especially of new writers!  I can’t think of another fandom that just welcomes people as easily.  Also, be gentle with yourself!  It’s so easy to be your own worst critic, but that often doesn’t get you anywhere except frustrated.

7. Favorite thing about our fandom?

My absolute favourite thing is the wide range of ages and experiences in our fandom.  It’s so refreshing that these books that were aimed at a younger audience can be enjoyed (and picked apart and discussed over and over and over...) by people of all ages.  I love it!
