I have no issues with the name, thanks!
Well, Fingon was going to break up with him either way, and this way they’re at least together. Maedhros doesn’t think the situation is ideal, but he thinks it’s the best that can be given the circumstances. He thinks he’s being as fair as he can. For example, he has Fingon naked for practical reasons, but he has given him blankets and furs, so he won’t freeze. The guards often take those away when Maedhros isn’t there and try to make Fingon beg to have them back. He’s very used to cold, so he doesn’t always give them the satisfaction, but sometimes when he’s too weak and the guards pour icy water over him, he does, especially when it triggers flashbacks of the Helcaraxe. Maedhros once found out about it and got very mad because he doesn’t want Fingon to freeze to death and he “cares” about Fingon. The guards are more careful after that.
Maedhros is the only source of comfort Fingon has. The guards are crueler to him (though, of course, it hurts more coming from Maedhros), so as much as he hates himself for it, sometimes he allows Maedhros to comfort him and reacts accordingly when Maedhros is gentle with him. Otherwise he would go mad.
Fingon does know about what Maedhros has been through and he’s horrified when he realizes that his “punishments” are the somewhat watered down versions of what was done to Maedhros in Angband. He’s even more horrified when he realizes that if he makes Maedhros mad enough, he will not water them down anymore.
Maedhros is too far gone to realize the gravity of his actions. If he acknowledges how terrible he’s being to Fingon, how much damage he’s doing, he will die of guilt, so he just doesn’t. And you’re so right about Fingon turning into a project for him, even if he would never admit it.
Omg, Fingon being afraid that his cousins would give him back or keep him as a sex slave is such a great and heartbreaking idea! Of course he would think that. He had absolute trust in Maedhros and it was broken so cruelly, why wouldn’t others do it too? My heart is breaking imagining Fingon’s reunion with his father. Fingolfin would feel so incredibly guilty. I think he’s pragmatic enough to have considered the option of Maedhros inheriting the crown if he dies because both his sons have vanished and he will be beating himself up for those thoughts when he finds out.
If he decides to attack Himring, it’s going to get so messy. Himring is hard to conquer, even Morgoth wasn’t able to do it during Dagor Bragollach. And when Morgoth finds out that Fingolfin has moved on Himring, he might use the chance and attack Hithlum where few soldiers are left. Or he could send his troops to Himring and trap Fingolfin between his and Maedhros’s forces. It puts Maedhros in an interesting situation. He has to either leave Fingolfin and his troops to die or he has to open his gates and let them in/join them in the fight against Morgoth. Maedhros isn’t a complete monster. Well no, he is, but he has standards too. He still hates Morgoth and he likes Fingolfin despite the attack, and obviously he wants the Noldor to beat Morgoth, so he has to make a decision.
And if Fingon is with Fingolfin, what will he think or feel about the idea of joining forces with Maedhros. And if Fingolfin has left Fingon in Hithlum, what will he think if he finds out that his father is now fighting alongside Maedhros. Maybe he will even think that once Fingolfin is inside Himring, Maedhros won’t let him go anymore just like he did with Fingon.
I think I will return to my blog or open a new one. Thanks for egging me on. I’m just too lazy to keep a consistent blog, but I’ll try.
Maedhros to Fingon: "I don't always have a lot of time when I visit you, so it's best if we make the most of the moments we have (by spending them having sex, which is all you're good for). But it won't waste any of my time (which is way more valuable than yours, since I don't let you do anything) to pull a blanket away, so you can have blankets. Besides, it's important for you to keep warm and stay healthy."
Maedhros once found out about it and got very mad because he doesn’t want Fingon to freeze to death and he “cares” about Fingon. I love this line, especially the quotes around "cares:
Did Maedhros purposely select guards with sadistic impulses (because the other ones might protest his treatment of Fingon), or do they have some sort of grudge against Fingon? Is it just because Fingon wastes a lot of Maedhros's time that he could use fighting Morgoth? Ooh, I just had an idea - you said these were mostly former thralls. Are they pissed at Fingon for "leaving them behind" in Angband when he rescued Maedhros?
Poor Fingon. People need hugs and positive contact, so I get it. But he really needs hugs from someone other than Maedhros.
Maedhros is just going to keep making things worse if Fingon doesn't escape, isn't he. Not just the "one time punishment" for Fingon attacking him. But realizing more and more things Fingon has are "unnecessary luxuries" and it would be more convenient for Maedhros if Fingon wasn't able to speak, or walk, or whatever. And also, every time Fingon breaks the rules means that Fingon didn't learn is lesson" last time, and so the next punishment has to be harsher so Fingon will behave.
Man, I'd almost forgotten about Morgoth for a minute. But yes, the idea of Fingolfin besieging Himring while Morgoth either pins him down or attacks Hithlum is great! And Fingon's reaction when he finds out that Fingolfin allied with Maedhros is wonderful to ponder. The Noldor need all the soldiers they can get, and Maedhros truly is a skilled commander. Fingon would worry that Maedhros would have to be allowed to continue unpunished, because it really is more important to fight Morgoth than to get revenge for Fingon. (Fingon tries to reassure himself that Maedhros wouldn't be allowed anything more than that, to live in Himring as long he defends it against Morgoth. Surely Maedhros won't be invited to war councils, and Fingon won't have to look at him across a battle plan without flinching. Fingon refuses to think of what Maedhros's help might cost, and if his father would send him back if it meant saving the Noldor. Fingolfin would never, right?)
Also, what if Fingon is with the army that was planning to attack Himring. Sure, he's out of practice, but he wants to get vengeance personally, and also being told "stay in this place and don't leave while I go fight the battle" is reminding him far too much if his captivity. Having a sword in his hand and a horse underneath him and fresh air around him, and honestly just doing something, is exactly what Fingon needs.
Up until he's stuck in a castle with Maedhros because there's thousands of orcs outside.
Also just to complicate the politics even more: What are Maedhros's brothers doing when Fingolfin attacks Himring? Celegorm and Curufin probably at least saw him ride by, did Fingolfin claim he was going for a different angle of attack on Angband? Does Maedhros get a message out once Fingolfin nears Himring? Probably not explaining the details of why Fingolfin is mad, but none of the Feanorians really obey Fingolfin in the first place. Curufin in particular would believe that Fingolfin attacked just because he wanted to make sure Maedhros could never take back the crown. (Despite the fact that Fingolfin had been secretly considering re adding him to the succession, Curufin doesn't know that and hates Fingolfin on principle)

This Fingon trying to strangle Maedhros AU reminded me of one of my own AUs that exists only in my obsessive thoughts. Hope you don’t mind if I ramble a little. (Wow, this got too long. I’ll send it in three asks, so it wouldn’t be too long of a wall of text).
It takes place early in Beleriand. Maedhros is rescued, Himring is established, Maedhros and Fingon are in a loving relationship. But eventually Fingon gives in to the demands for an heir and decides to marry. He is devastated, but he tells Maedhros they have to end their relationship for the greater good and because he’s not going to cheat on his future wife. Maedhros is like yeah no, you’re only mine, but he doesn’t say that out loud. He tries to convince Fingon in every way, talks with Fingolfin, does everything he can, but no use. Fingon is heartbroken and apologetic but firm.
Left with no choice, Maedhros simply kidnaps Fingon and hides him away in a prison/dungeon he has built specifically for this purpose somewhere close to Himring but secluded enough, so people don’t go there. No one knows about this except a few former thralls that have escaped Angband. They are super loyal to Maedhros because he was the only one to accept them (and also they fear him).
Fingon is in shock at first. He can’t believe Maedhros would do this to him. Maedhros keeps apologizing, but he’s still keeping Fingon in chains and locked up. Fingon pushes him away when Maedhros tries to initiate sex and Maedhros respects it. (At first. Eventually, he gets tired of waiting and getting rejected every time and just forces Fingon. Of course, he rationalizes it in his head as something that he needed to do and that Fingon will understand one day. He keeps on doing that and it becomes easier. He starts keeping Fingon naked, so he won’t lose time on undressing him, he keeps him plugged up, so he won’t lose time on opening him, often he leaves a gag in his mouth, and slowly his attitude towards Fingon goes from a loving partner to a sex slave owner. He doles out frequent punishments for transgressions and comforts Fingon when he breaks down.)
Fingon is fighting. He keeps fighting for years. He hopes that someone will find him, but decades pass and no one does. No one knows where he is. The crown prince has just vanished. It is assumed he has been captured by Morgoth, but no demands come from him. Fingolfin barely stops himself from charging to Angband to demand his son back. (1/3)
(Putting the rest under a cut for length)
Fingon tries to escape many times. He almost succeeds sometimes, but Maedhros’s people are always there and bring him back. (He gets punished for his attempts, of course, with increasing severity.) He realizes that Maedhros is very possessive of him and tries to get rid of his guards by telling Maedhros that one of them tried to rape him. Maedhros calls the guard and kills him on the spot right in front of Fingon’s eyes, who yells horrified that he has lied, but it’s too late. Maedhros later punishes Fingon for lying and for “making” him kill an “innocent person”. Fingon’s lie also comes with the disadvantage that now Maedhros won’t believe him if he says the guards are abusing him unless there is evidence. The guards use their chance to rape and torture Fingon because they are bored and because they’re mad that their friend died because of Fingon. And unlike Maedhros, who tries to make the sex good for Fingon, they aren’t gentle about it. They are allowed to discipline Fingon if he acts out, so they have a way of explaining the marks they leave on him, though they always eliminate the evidence of rape. When Fingon tells Maedhros about this, Maedhros thinks Fingon is making it up like he did with the first guard and punishes him, so Fingon just stops complaining. Fingon gets desperate enough that he decides to kill Maedhros. He has tried to convince the guards to let him free, has promised them anything they want, but they are too afraid of Maedhros. Fingon believes that with Maedhros gone, he will be able to convince the guards. So he acts pliant with Maedhros to make him lower his guard and tries to strangle him during sex. In my head it’s a very intense scene. Fingon has weakened during the decades of captivity, but he’s putting all his despair and anger in the fight, and Maedhros is taken by surprise at first, so Fingon almost kills him. But then Maedhros hits him on the side of his face with his metal hand. Fingon gets dizzy, Maedhros gets free and crawls away, then kicks Fingon in the stomach and in the face. (The guards are away because Maedhros doesn’t want an audience while he’s having sex.) They are both on the ground, coughing and groaning in pain. “You will regret this,” Maedhros promises hoarsely. “Kill me then!” Fingon cries. “Do it! Kill me now!” He truly wants to die at that moment. He’d rather die than live like this. He’s sobbing and simultaneously cursing Maedhros and begging him for death. Maedhros is also crying from shock and the realization that Fingon just tried to kill him. He feels betrayed! (The gall of him!) (2/3)
Maedhros takes a few days to recover and returns to punish Fingon. He drinks a special potion to be able to get it up because he’s not sure he can maintain an erection while he’s hurting his partner. Fingon feels a tinge of satisfaction when he sees the edges of the bruises beneath Maedhros’s high collar and hears his raspier than usual voice. But his happiness doesn’t last long. Maedhros impales Fingon, tied up and helpless, on his cock and squeezes his throat while pounding into him. He lets go just seconds before Fingon can actually die and lets him recover for a moment before repeating it. He keeps doing it until Fingon is near death, and Fingon is terrified because even though he wanted death, he didn’t want it this way and at some point, he’s convinced that he’s going to die on Maedhros’s cock, Maedhros’s hands around his throat. Maedhros doesn’t finish inside his ass but shoves his cock in Fingon’s bruised throat. There’s no gag but Fingon doesn’t even have the strength to bite. He’s just trying not to choke to death until Maedhros comes. “Now you know what it feels like,” Maedhros says when it’s over. Fingon, only half-conscious, asks (somehow because he’s barely able to make a sound) if Maedhros knows what it feels like to spend decades chained up. Maedhros says that he knows it very well, and that Fingon should count himself lucky that he’s Maedhros’s prisoner and not Morgoth’s. I don’t know yet how it’s going to end. Maybe someone finds Fingon or he escapes, or Maedhros has a change of heart and lets him go, or his mind gets broken and Maedhros takes him to Himring and keeps him in his room (no, not this one, or I’ll break my own heart). Anyway, sorry for this. This is the first time I’m writing this down. I hope I didn’t bother you much. (3/3)
Ooh, private sex dungeon that is also a literal dungeon. I bet most of Himring would even put up with Maedhros keeping Fingon prisoner if he did want him closer, but I suppose more people is more chances for someone to tell or accidentally let it slip.
Oh wow, I love how Maedhros continues to comfort Fingon even after he's stopped caring about Fingon's right to refuse sex or wear clothes or control his body. Very much "We're still boyfriends even though I'm keeping you prisoner, right?"
now Maedhros won’t believe him if he says the guards are abusing him unless there is evidence. Perfect. Gets Fingon gangraped while still being completely under Maedhros's control, and with Maedhros possessive and refusing to share Fingon in any way.
Fingon's attack! Go Fingon! And I love how Maedhros feels betrayed - he only ever hurts Fingon when necessary (such as to punish Fingon for an escape attempt), and here Fingon is trying to kill him! Totally ungrateful, doesn't Fingon know how much crueler Maedhros could be but is choosing not to?
So Maedhros shows him cruel. Wow. The detail of Maedhros taking viagra-equivalent, because this is as much about punishing Fingon as about Maedhros's sexual pleasure.
he’s convinced that he’s going to die on Maedhros’s cock, Maedhros’s hands around his throat. This whole scene is great, but this line is especially wonderful.
So Maedhros is the one to bring up the similarities in their imprisonment. I doubt he'd be as casual about it if Fingon had been the one to compare Maedhros and Morgoth.
Also, I wonder if Fingon stops cooperating at all with sex after this, biting and kicking and trying to get away. Maedhros will tie him up of course, but the sex is less pleasurable when Maedhros has to be constantly keeping an eye out for attack.
But, you know, strangling Fingon half to death got him to stop resisting a "blowjob" once...
(Anon, do you have a blog? Or an ao3? Because I'd love to read more of your ideas!)

About the guards: Maedhros chose people who he knew wouldn’t make a fuss about Fingon’s treatment, so in a way, yes, he did select guards with sadistic impulses, though he wouldn’t put it that way. He’d say he chose reliable people. They are pissed because 1) Fingon came for Maedhros but no one came for them, 2) Maedhros killed their friend because Fingon lied about him. Neither is exactly Fingon’s fault, but who cares?
Maedhros would never admit it, but sometimes he pretends not to notice the unnecessary cruelty of the guards because then he can appear kinder to Fingon and condition him to develop a dependency from Maedhros (poor Fingon does need to google how not to develop Stockholm Syndrome). Fingon is smart enough to realize this, but it doesn’t help him at all. Not when he’s lying frozen and in pain after a rough treatment from the guards, who tell Maedhros that Fingon was misbehaving and that’s why they did that, and Fingon is terrified that Maedhros will punish him too as he usually does and repeats over and over again that he didn’t do it, then Maedhros tells him ‘I know’, treats his wounds, wraps him up in warm furs and blankets and holds him in a way he knows makes Fingon feel comforted and safe. (And then fucks him gently, which Fingon doesn’t want, of course, but also doesn’t protest because he’s afraid to anger Maedhros and end the pretense of kindness.)
Things will definitely keep getting worse for Fingon. After another escape attempt, Maedhros may decide that Fingon can live with a broken leg or two. If he tries to hit Maedhros or to fight back, he will have a broken finger, then two, then his hand may be broken. If he’s strong enough to fight, maybe he’s getting more food and water than he needs? Maybe he has no need to lie down when Maedhros isn’t there to fuck him and instead should be chained to the wall the whole time? If only he was good, Maedhros would be kinder to him, but Fingon is doing this all to himself by not obeying Maedhros’s every whim and not being grateful enough that Maedhros treats him the way he does. Maedhros would have killed for someone to treat him the way he treats Fingon when he was Morgoth’s prisoner. Clearly, Fingon is just spoiled.
I imagine him finally escaping and running through wilderness, covered in nothing but a blanket, constantly terrified that he will be found and dragged back again. Then he finally reaches Dorthonion, where he’s treated like a person, where he gets to wear clothes and sleep in a warm bed for the first time in decades. But he still doesn’t feel safe, he still feels like any minute the door will open and Maedhros will come in. And then imagine the huge relief he feels when he finally sees his father.
Omg, Fingon thinking that Fingolfin might send him back! Ouch, that’s painful! I don’t think Fingolfin would ever do that, but realistically he might be forced to let Maedhros go unpunished because they still have Morgoth to fight and he can’t afford to lose a huge chunk of his forces. So they can’t even tell anyone what Maedhros has done because it would still create a divide. So what are they going to do? The most believable version is that Fingon has been captured by Morgoth and escaped, but then he is going to be distrusted and ostracized as a former thrall. People are going to demand to remove him from the line of succession, maybe even lock him up. Fingolfin won’t do it, but the threat is still there.
Maedhros would have to sit at war councils and Fingon would have to bear his presence and pretend (probably very badly) everything’s fine. And if Maedhros slips into his chamber one night, Fingon can’t make a fuss, he doesn’t want to divide the Noldor again, does he? Though Fingolfin probably wouldn’t hold back from killing Maedhros this time if he knew he raped his son under his own roof. (A slightly darker and more coldly pragmatic Fingolfin would tell Fingon to endure it for the sake of the Noldor. He isn’t going to send Fingon back to Maedhros, so Fingon can do him a favor and shut up and take it once in a while.)
You’re right, Fingon isn’t the type to stay in his place while others are fighting for him, so he might very well be at the siege of Himring. Him trapped in the fortress with Maedhros is the stuff of nightmares! He will be very well-protected, of course, Fingolfin won’t want him alone even for a second, but he would still feel exposed and Maedhros would still try to corner him alone.
Maedhros’s brothers would certainly come to his aid against Fingolfin. Even if they found out what Maedhros did, they would at best be like ‘what the fuck, man, that’s fucked up’, but still support him.
Outofangband’s dark Turgon AU sounds super interesting. He already dislikes the Feanorians in canon, make him slightly darker and he could do monstrous things to them.
Thank you so much for letting me ramble. If you want me to stop, just tell me and I will. No hard feelings.
This is just amazing, nonny. I've been trying all week to think of as good a reply as it deserves.
I'm not surprised that selecting for guards who will keep a sex slave secret also ends up selecting sadistic assholes. Them using Fingon's accusation and the other guard's death as a justification for their actions (including possibly retroactively, I doubt they were kind before that) is great.
Oh wow, the list of "privileges" Maedhros thinks Fingon can do without. Presumably he'll let Fingon's leg heal, if Fingon behaves. If Fingon doesn't behave, I wonder if he could be tied up such that his leg heals crooked and he can't run fast. (Downside: that would make him less pretty.)
The thing about not needing so much energy if he's going to use it to fight is also great. Maybe he's fed just enough to stay alive most days. But when the guards see a rider approaching from Himring, that's their cue to give Fingon a bit more food, especially simple carbs that will give him energy quickly. That way he can be more "enthusiastic" during sex rather than just lying there limply. (To be clear, the guards aren't hiding their neglect from Maedhros. He totally ordered them to do this.) Most days though, he has just enough energy to stay upright, and not choke in his collar that's chained to the wall. (Maedhros learned the lesson from his own rescue, of don't chain them by a body part whose loss is survivable.)
On the days Maedhros visits, Fingon has enough energy to move around, and to talk, and to think about something other than how hungry he is. Maedhros has him in a bed, with soft blankets, and cuddles him so they're both warm. It's the best part of Fingon's - week? month? he has no way of keeping track of days - even with the unwanted sex. Fingon knows it's rape, but Maedhros is gentle, and makes sure it's pleasurable for them both, and over time such a harsh word doesn't seem to fit.
The escape! Traveling for miles wrapped in nothing but a blanket, his feet getting torn up, only focused on that he needs to go West. And wow, yeah, not feeling safe until he sees his father, and he can relax and know that someone will take care of him and mean it this time.
Also, all the healers who have the most expertise with injuries from captivity are the ones who helped when Maedhros was rescued. If they get the "escaped from Morgoth" story, they might reassure Fingon with telling him how his friend Maedhros was able to make a full recovery, isn't that good? That Fingon will be so physically strong? (arms pinning him down, a hand around his throat-) That Fingon is no more corrupted than Maedhros is?
I bet after the former thrall story gets out, someone sympathetic to Fingon pulls him aside after a court session. "I obviously don't believe the rumors about you being controlled. But they might die down if you let town for a while, let everyone find something new to gossip about. They say Himring welcomes former thralls, you wouldn't have to deal with all this suspicion there." Fingon just barely avoids vomiting at the suggestion.
I think Maedhros would be too smart to rape Fingon under Fingolfin's roof? He might act like they just had an argument and are on a break, but he wouldn't physically force Fingon when he knows Fingon could get away. He wouldn't be above bribing one of the servants to let him in to Fingon's room for a private discussion though, and kissing Fingon while Fingon is still too shocked to react. (although that coldly pragmatic Fingolfin would be so terrible for Fingon. Maybe he heard that Fingon had been raped in his room, and said "You can move to a different room if you think that will keep him from finding you, but please come up with a good excuse for why you're doing so."
I'm picturing Fingolfin and Fingon going to attack Maedhros. Then they're attacked by Morogth and has to retreat into Himring. Things are tense, but Fingolfin makes it clear to Fingon that any judgement against Maedhros is only delayed, not avoided.
Then word comes that there's the banners of another elven host on the far side of the besieging orcs. And it's Himlad, with Clegorm and Curufin.
Fingolfin stops talking about bringing Maedhros to justice. He still reassures Fingon that he'll be safe, Fingolin won't let anyone touch him, there's guards loyal only to Fingolfin on his door at all times. They'll be able to leave Himring soon, and Fingon will never have to see Maedhros again, or come back to this corrupted place.
But they both know that killing Maedhros is not likely to happen, no matter how much he deserves it.

Nonny, you have succeeded in causing me further pain. I’m pretty deep in dark fics so it takes a lot for my heart to hurt reading them but…Fingolfin considering Maedhros like a son is a very important and special concept to me and so reading that in context was like a stab to the gut.
And FF, your concept of the chess just made it worse (in a good way of course)
-@outofangband (If you ever return to your whump blog feel free to tag me or message me! I’ll follow you if I’m not already!)
Fingon/Maedhros strangulation AU anon: you are now responsible for an evil idea of mine! I was inspired by you saying that Maedhros is like a son to Fingolfin and FF talking about the legal implications of that with regards to kingship So now I have another dark Turgon AU where Turgon takes drastic measures to make sure Maedhros won’t take his place as heir. Honestly I was thinking either in Beleriand or in Valinor because I love putting Maedhros in danger from his own family post events of Silm -@outofangband
Putting these asks together so you can see both of them nonny!

The previous anon here. Thank you so much!
Yeah, some people at Himring would definitely be horrified if they knew and they would think about telling Fingolfin or helping Fingon.
Maedhros has successfully deluded himself into thinking that this is temporary and that he and Fingon will be able to have what they had before. If only Fingon stopped fighting him every second! He feels upset when Fingon’s upset, so he tries to comfort him, even if he’s the one who has upset him. Fingon hates it, but when Maedhros withdraws his affection for a while after Fingon’s attempt at his life, Fingon hates it even more because as much as he didn’t want it, sometimes he closed his eyes and let himself pretend that they are in his or Maedhros’s bedroom and everything’s fine.
Maedhros is constantly justifying his actions in his head, so he does feel betrayed and surprised when Fingon tries to kill him. His punishments are never sexual, or rather they aren’t sexual for Maedhros because he isn’t turned on by Fingon’s pain (some punishments still have sexual character, it’s only that Maedhros isn’t directly raping him and gets no sexual pleasure from it). Maedhros does believe that the punishments are necessary and he absolutely thinks that he’s being just because it could have been so much worse. It was so much worse for Maedhros.
He probably had a moment of self-doubt after the attempt on his life because it was Fingon trying to kill him. It shook him pretty badly and for a couple of days he was like ‘am I the baddie here?’ And then he decided that no, Fingon was being unreasonable, so he had to devise an appropriate punishment. He knew from experience how demoralizing and humiliating violent rape could be, so he chose that. He doesn’t think him having sex with Fingon is rape, but this time he knew it was and he knew he was going to hurt Fingon that way deliberately. He wasn’t sure he could get it up for it, so he made sure he would be able to.
Maedhros sometimes is even inspired by his own imprisonment. He never goes as far as Morgoth, though, so he doesn’t believe it’s the same thing. Fingon has compared him and Morgoth before and it has enraged Maedhros.
Fingon will be too weak to resist Maedhros at first after his punishment, but he will keep on fighting. He will be pretty traumatized and often Maedhros just putting his hands on his throat as a warning will be enough to get him to stop. Sometimes it won’t be enough, so Maedhros will actually do it again. Maybe not with the same severity, but still enough to incapacitate Fingon.
If Fingon is rescued, Fingolfin is going to be guilt-ridden, knowing that his son was within his reach and yet he let him suffer for so long, welcomed his torturer with kindness, not even guessing that he was horribly abusing his son. Fingolfin likes Maedhros very much and treats him almost like a son, so it is going to be a huge shock for him.
Thank you and outofangband for your kind words. I usually don’t post such things on my Ao3, but I did make a whump blog a while ago and abandoned it promptly. Maybe I should return to it.
Oh wow, Maedhros, how do you not get that enslaving your boyfriend means he'll break up with you? (To be fair, he has the same problem in my rape magic slavery au.) I get why Fingon wouldn't want to tell Maedhros to his face though; Fingon initially has one occasionally positive social contact in Maedhros, and that goes down to zero when Maedhros is mad at him.
Maedhros justifying his actions is great. "If I was enjoying hurting Fingon, that would mean I was evil / a sadist. Since I don't enjoy it, the pain must be for his own good."
I bet Fingon knows a little bit of how much worse it could be. He comforted Maedhros after Angband, and presumably talked him down after nightmares. So Fingon is aware that Maedhros knows all sorts of terrible, painful ways to torture an elf, and is choosing not to use them on Fingon. Or at least only use less extreme versions - I wonder if Fingon knows enough to recognize those when they happen?
Maedhros got so close to actually experiencing guilt about his actions for a moment thinking about Fingon's attack. Then decided that everything was Fingond fault after all, and that he needed to make Fingon understand that actions have consequences. Choosing to rape Fingon specifically to demoralize him, not because Maedhros is turned on by violence, is absolutely perfect. He’s very much thinking of Fingon as a project to be managed, more than a lover or partner, isn’t he?
And Fingolfin’s reaction if this ever comes out would be so amazing. Perhaps Fingon breaks out and makes it way to Dorthonion, the closest non-Feanorian settlement of Noldor. Angrod and Aegnor a message saying that Fingon is alive, but refusing to say anything about what happened to him. (Fingon is worried they’ll decide to give him back or keep him themselves, once the idea is out there.) After the teary reunion, Fingon would finally admit it to Fingolfin. Fingolfin would be chocked and horrified, and wonder what torments Fingon was suffering while Fingolfin was playing chess with Maedhros and reminiscing with him about Valinor. (Then the Noldor get a different Second Kinslaying, as Fingolfin demands the execution of Maedhros, who has a fortress full of people who either believe Fingon is lying or believe Maedhros was justified.)
I would just like to egg you on for returning to your whump blog. This is a fascinating idea, and I’d love to see more! (And/or you can reblog a bunch of other people’s whump fic; it’s your blog)
#fucking finwions answers#fingon/maedhros strangulation au#let me know if you want a different name for you au or your asks#also is Fingolfin thought of Maedhros like a son there's also the matter of the succession#I know Turgon is officially still in line for the throne but nobody can find him - or is even sure he's alive#so Fingolfin needs an heir and he might - very delicately - suggest that Maedhros had stepped /back/ not stepped /down/

Anon who sent in the AU: I can’t add much more than what FF said already but that’s such a heartbreaking and horrifying AU (so in short my favorite emotions)
I think what really got me (besides what was already mentioned in the response of course) is Fingolfin thinking his son has been taken by Morgoth and wanting so desperately to rescue him. That just felt like a punch in the gut.
And I second FF, I’d definitely follow your blog
