Somewhat serious post
I was reading the Memory Alpha for the Kazon and got to the behind the scenes which I try to avoid because I despise it and the the three old white people writing the show talking about "urban" gangs I swear their quotes are one "you people" and "baggy pants" away from being some kind of racist bingo
I want it to be known that's the reason why I always use in show references and not behind the scenes ones because I try to think of the Kazon in a in-universe unique culture perspective when I post analysis type post rather then the "Gangs of the delta quadrant" perspective
#I know I'm mostly a meme page but its always annoyed me personally#I know I've posted similar things before but I wanted to clarify exactly how I feel#star trek#kazon#star trek voyager#star trek: voyager#star trek kazon#finer points of the kazon

Things in media that remind me of the Kazon #5
Barons and Clippers (Into The Badlands)
While the Barons and Clippers from the show were inspired by Shogun and Samurai during the first season in particular the loyalty the Clippers show to their Baron heavily reminds me of Jals and Majes and the ways the Clippers saw the world was interesting and I thought it'd be similar to Jals although the Barons were more brutal then Majes I thought some of the thought processes might be similar I remember saying to my non star trek friend when we watched the show that it felt similar I joked that it felt like if the Kazon had a tv show dedicated to them
#save for later#oh and a tw if you decide to watch the show it has darker themes them Voyager#star trek#kazon#star trek voyager#star trek: voyager#star trek kazon#finer points of the kazon#into the badlands

I'm remembering when I saw someone on Trek discourse not on tumblr feeling bad for the Trabe and I made a meme about Trabe apologists but like for real though you want me to feel bad about a group that oppressed another for decades with horrible crimes and when those people finally fight back you want me to feel bad for the oppressors?! the slavers?! the colonisers?! the colonial settlers?!
No that's not gonna happen like ever
#kazon#finer points of the kazon#I remember learning of the Haitian revolution and feeling absolutely no sympathy for the French on the island#star trek#don't want the oppressed to do violence back to you? just don't oppress them ez#also free palestine

How do you feel about Seska in relation to her role as a Kazon ally?
Well her role as a Kazon ally is a good one her plots and knowledge about Voyager and its technical systems are more then helpful to the Nistrim sect along with the ideas she presences to Culluh being good ideas
I believe her end goal was power but if getting it ment helping the Kazon along the way whether it be by technology or a greater control of the region so be it

I argee there are some things you can defer from lines and on screen appearance but I do wish there was more
My personal thoughts on what caused the divide between them was probably the lack resources Neelix in the Pilot of VOY says "the Kazon Sects control this part of the quadrant some have food some have ore some have water they all trade and kill each other for it" that and pre existing grudges between Sects because the Trabe pitted them against each other until they worked together and overthrow the Trabe
Also maybe the differences in Culture from the Ogla showing disdain for technology in the episode with the children coming of age while the Nistrim are almost obsessed with it another thing from that same episode Ogla don't wear uniforms because it reminds them of the Trabe but the Pommar sect all wear matching uniforms so it's clear they all have innate cultural differences
And I'd imagine they home world would be dry and sunny because they seem to have sun blotches and discoloration on their skin from the sun but maybe that's because they come from a different climate and their bodies don't react well to dry and sunny climates but I personally think a volcanic planet would be cool but that's a opinion
I wish we got to learn more about the Kazon as a culture. They have really interesting parallels with Federation races, but are also plenty different. I wanna know more about the sects and what caused the divide between all of them. The episode with the children coming of age felt like the most intimately we were ever gonna get to know them, but it could've gone a lot deeper! What's the Kazon homeworld like???

I found a layout of a Kazon ship thing on Ex Astris Scientia
So I decided to over analyze it :)
Let's start off easy
At least four consoles for different Kazon to work at
These architectural things appear all over the bridge and if I remember correctly they also appear on Pommar buildings on Sobras at least around the windows of the meeting
This technology or console setup appears all over the bridge and I think I remember the stolen transporter device being put into one of these
This last one is pretty self explanatory

I was playing the Star Trek Lower Decks mobile game
And I was play Episode 19 which has you in a holodeck version of the pilot of VOY
And it mentioned the Kazon from the first episode
And sadly I didn't get a screenshot of it but it mentioned that the Kazon Olga Sect was going to enslave the Ocampas which was weird because in the original episode it was never mentioned but I've also had two different people argue with me about that exact episode
So at this I'm not even upset or nothing just confused if I'm honest I re-watched the whole episode on Paramount Plus+ to make sure and it's never mentioned just that the Kazon "will steal their water" and the Caretaker last words say that the Olga will "annihilate" the Ocampa with the array but no mention of slavery
So I was wondering if this is so kinda Mandela Effect type thing
Or am I missing something?

I re-watched the episode and realized that all Culluh requested was a Crewman swap not switching ships or anything and the swap was something that Starfleet already did in the "Officer Exchange Program" featured in episodes "TNG A Matter Of Honor" "TNG Sins Of The Father" "TNG The Drumhead" it wasn't a unreasonable request either
Then they go and finding the people who basically enslaved Kazon less then one generation ago to make allies no wonder after that all the Kazon Sects were distrustful of Voyager after that
“Alliances” (S02E15, Stardate 49397.4) is not Janeway’s finest outing. What could have been an opportunity for her to explore looking beyond rigid borders became an exercise in poor judgement and blunders that earn Voyager their reputation among the Kazon. And she gets to act righteous at the end?

Things in media that remind me of the Kazon #4
Calavera and his Men (The Magnificent Seven 1960)
This is my first non sci fi edition of this but I couldn't but be reminded of the Kazon while watching Calavera and his gang are bandits who rob a village of food and water but leave them with enough to survive and when the village didn't give them food they began to starve and after capturing the "magnificent seven" he lets them live and dumps them in the woods almost every part of this reminded me of the Kazon
#I'm pretty Calavera did nothing else except what I wrote here but I didn't have captions on 🤷♂️#fun or not so fun fact the Mexican bandit Calavera was played by a polish man 😅#star trek#kazon#star trek voyager#star trek: voyager#star trek kazon#finer points of the kazon#the magnificent seven#the magnificent 7

Kazon Cultural similarities list 2
As I said in the tags of the first post I'll be focusing on clothing
The focus on furs and layers reminds me of some of the medieval Cossack clothing
Along with the focus on loose pants with boots and a sash around the waist
The focus of layers around the arm and long jackets reminds me of the Indigenous Huron/Wyandot people they too also use colorful sashes
The aforementioned Cossack also have been known to wear arm layers

honestly for what it’s worth it’s entirely possible the Kazon dude in Prodigy isn’t representative of the species current existence as a whole. Like every species is going to have their rogue black sheep, and like you’ve said, the kazon are former slaves so I bet him trading in orphans/etc is highly frowned upon. Maybe he’s a fugitive of his original kazon sect? Also unrelated but do you have a favorite Kazon sect? I really liked meeting the Kazon Ogla
I argee he might be a fugitive and he may be the only one involved with the trade and the Kazon aren't unified so at worst he represents only one sect or I like to think it might be the Trabe they already have a history with selling people and he could be a Trabe collaborator or part of a holo projection
And my favorite Sect has to be the Pommar just because of how different they are from the other sects with Uniforms, Diplomacy and completely different hair but the most iconic is the Nistrim with the most characters and memorable clothing

Things in Media that remind me of the Kazon #3
Reman (Star Trek)
The Remans and Kazon share one distinctive trait they're both ex-slaves they are also both warlike and physically built for their planets/climate for the Reman it's underground with dark features made for little light the Kazon on the other hands have sun botched copper skin made for sunny most likely hot weather

Things in Media that remind me of the Kazon #2
Tusken Raiders (Star Wars)
Both the Kazon and Tusken Raiders are well nomadic desert raiders split into many different tribes/groups/sects that have a focus on necessity specifically water both are considered primitive despite they're undeniable success and are often technologically behind the rest of thier respected galaxy and both have reasons for their actions with the Kazon being ex slaves with a lack of food and water and the Tusken Raiders being indigenous to Tatooine a planet with little water

I'm excited for seeing the Kazon in prodigy it got me thinking about what happened to the Kazon after Voyager left at first I thought I'd be best if the Kazon united and become one group but I eventually I realized that it'd rob them of what made them interesting in the first place the difference between different sects so in my opinion the best ending for the Kazon would be stay separate but at peace and I thought about the Vidiians a people described as Federation like before the phage in the episode "S5 E19 Think Tank" the aforementioned think tank claims they had cured the phage if they were really Federation like people they'd want to repay a bit of the damage they'd done considering they had taken organs from the Kazon and that they had the ability to replicate organs and I thought they could probably replicate food and water like Voyager and if they gave it to the Kazon the fighting would probably wear down over time with no real reason to fight other then pride it would eventually stop all together so I thought about without war between sects what would the Kazon do?
1. Nistrim both Culluh and his people seem pretty interested in technology with his line "A fitting end for a people who not share their technology" I think the Nistrim would focus on technology whether it be inventing or trading for it
2. Olga their culture is very war and survivalist based I think they'd become very focused on survivalist endeavors things like surviving on extremely dangerous planets
3. Pommar one word diplomacy from hoisting a meeting to gain prestige and the fact Neelix had a friend on the planet seems they're very focused on diplomacy and the fact they have a planet when the Kazon are a group of warring nomads speaks to the diplomacy of the Pommar so I'd say they'd be moderators in Kazon space
4. Relora in the one episode they're featured in Neelix identifies the Relora by they're Bands on the clothing they wear to the point that he could identify the First Maje specifically and they're outfits are very intricate so I think the Relora would focus on tailoring and other appearance based improvement maybe tattoos or something
5. Mostral we only meet the Maje Surat who has a very acerbic personality if we assume that the Mostral culture has a similarly to their Maje I'd wager they'd be somewhat reminiscent of the Tellarites in a very trade heavy culture that puts up with very little that doesn't interest them
6. Olgamar lead by Maje Valek we know very little about that but based on thier clothing choices they resemble the Olga but dress for slightly colder weather maybe a break off group with the Olga's anti technology, anti organizing, anti women and pro war ideas they're a lot of reasons to break off so I guess they'd focus on something maybe architecture, archeology or something of interest or maybe Nistrim like focused on technology
7. Hobii lead by Maje Loran consider one of the weaker sects that might be focused on diplomacy or being a jack of all trades possibly a group of renowned strippers I just don't know but it's fun to speculate
This is just what I'd like to happen I don't actually expect it to happen and I'm excited for whatever Prodigy has in store or doesn't it might be one guy one screen for 15 seconds but this was fun to do
#the last bit of the Hobii part was a joke 🤣#star trek#kazon#star trek: voyager#star trek kazon#star trek voyager#culluh#surat#valek#loran#finer points of the kazon

@ad127 No in the first episode the Kazon Ogla were interrogating Kes for information also they weren't trying to enslave anyone they were trying to get to the Ocampas water it's stated that the Ocampa have all the water on the planet that's the reason Janeway bring water tanks down to the planet to begin a conversation with the Ogla the Kazon are only hostile after Neelix takes the Maje hostage there is a mention from Maje Jabin saying that the Ocampas make "bad servants" but servants and slaves are different things and in the episode Jabin was unwilling to sell Kes as a person trying to repeatedly change the conversation I suggested you rewatch the pilot of Voyager
Also more on the servants thing we never see any proof of any servants he say the remark to discourage Janeway trying to "Buy" he believes she wants Kes as servant it seems he's unwilling to give up someone who can lead him to water in the end I'm not even sure the Ogla keep servants considering he said it as a ploy
