I would like to go into detail. How fascinated I can be by a person and all his facets. From outward appearances to inward secrets. From drawing lines to highlights and dark shadows. All that comes across during the portrayal of my model. It remains a separate profession!

With just as much dedication I worked on this major commission in 2020 and consider this classic piece of art to be one of my most beautiful assignments ever. Jules Bastien-Lepage (1848-1884) "Pas Mèche (Nothing Doing)" (1882) Oil on canvas Realism Located in the Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh, Scotland The title is an abbreviation of the French slang: "Il n'y a pas meche" meaning "There's nothing doing." The whip and horn he holds suggest that he was a barge boy who would have controlled the horses pulling the barge and alerted the lockmasters of its imminent arrival.

What a privilege to be able to portray these twins. It was a present for their 30th birthday. Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Saskia Vugts, I am a portrait artist from The Netherlands. I specialized in powerful, realistic oil portraits painted on a linen canvas, often enlarged close-ups. In general, my clients order family related portraits (children / parents / families), or business related portraits (a founder, or someone celebrating a jubilee) . The countless hours I put into my passion passed effortlessly. I chose to pursue a professional career in painting. I attended the Academy of Fine Arts, in Arendonk, Belgium where I mastered the application of oil painting techniques. My decision to specialize in realistic portrait painting was frowned upon by teachers and fellow students, as this would leave less space for creativity. I found a challenge in the resistance I met with. I learned to find the maximum space to merge my signature style within the classic boundaries of structure, style and detail. This freedom is expressed in the powerful, vivid display of the eyes in my portraits. Encouraged by a growing number of assigned orders I proceeded to evolve my distinctive skills. I started working on a portfolio of large close-ups of famous actors and actresses, to promote my work. These were shown on numerous locations in a variety of events, which lead up to my first solo exhibition in 2012. I painted this double portrait fourteen years ago. They were my first oil portraits in color, and what an enormous challenge. 80x80cm.
