here’s a big dumb list of all my Charley arc headcanons
This is gonna get long, get ready lads
Charley is asexual
I’m on this boat for a number of reasons, primarily the fact that India herself said in an interview she thought Charley was ace. She might have been joking, but honestly it makes a lot of sense: this wasn’t really a named thing in the early 1900s, so Charley wouldn’t know about it or how to communicate it.
Whenever someone makes a move on her, she always has a negative response to it afterwards. The primary three are in Scherzo, Enemy Aliens, and Embankment Station. Obviously Scherzo’s kiss prompted a negative response, but Charley seems even particularly resistant to the subject afterwards. In Enemy Aliens, Hilary suggests that they kiss to hide from the police, and Charley responds with EXTREME revulsion. (Not to mention that scene took place before Scherzo.) In Embankment Station and on, Charley’s the one who suggested the kiss with Robert in the first place, but is extremely uncomfortable about it afterwards and resists any discussion of it, direct or otherwise. Overall her level of discomfort indicates something far beyond awkwardness or inexperience. Sounds asexual to me.
Eight is aromantic
Eight is very clearly both emotionally and personally attracted to Charley, possibly even moreso than Charley is to him. But Scherzo makes it pretty clear that he doesn’t actually love her. That audio in particular goes far enough to imply that it’s more like infatuation or obsession. Aromance really represents this dichotomy I think. I’ve noticed a lot of other people who headcanon him as ace, but IMO this works better--it’s not that he doesn’t understand romantic advances/commentary, it’s that they literally just don’t hit for him.
Eight has synesthesia
So I don’t really have a lot of hard evidence for this one but like... come on. How could he not. I think his synesthesia is specifically time-based. He talks heavily in the Divergent arc about how the loss of time feels like a lost arm to him. I believe his sense of time converges with his other senses; he sees different time periods and/or times of day in different colors, certain time periods/times of day have a certain smell to him, certain time periods/times of day leave a specific taste in his mouth. That kind of thing. (To take it a step further, I imagine the Divergent universe looked very drained of color to him. Not totally grayscale, but as if the saturation had been turned way down.)
Six is a wonderful person
This isn’t a headcanon, I just wanted to remind you.
Charley is wearing her Legacy outfit in her spinoff series
...Or at least in most of it. I already talked rambled about the Legacy outfit extensively in this post. In most of the promos for the Charlotte Pollard series, she’s wearing a shoulder-cut black shirt. Since the Legacy outfit has that jacket, we don’t know the cut of the shirt underneath, so my headcanon is that she just took the jacket off at some point after she started working for the Viyrans. In the promos for series 2, she’s wearing another jacket, so I say she just put that one on top.
Charley wears a binder sometimes
Look at this post and tell me that isn’t amazing.
Charley loves hand-holding
Now, you might think Scherzo would make this impossible. But Scherzo actually supports it. Despite the Doctor being a bit of an ass in that audio, she’s completely comfortable with the idea of holding hands, and at the end she wants to continue doing so despite the trauma they just went through. In Embankment Station on, although she doesn’t seem comfortable encouraging anything romantic with Robert, she is ALWAYS consistently okay with him taking her hand/holding her hand. At times she actually goes out of her way to encourage it. She also frequently takes/holds the hands of various characters throughout her entire arc.
Eight knew what was going on with C’rizz
This is less a headcanon and more my opinion about something that was already canon. At the end of Absolution, Charley accuses the Doctor of knowing that C’rizz was going to die and why. We never get any concrete conclusion about that, but I say Charley was totally right. I also say Eight knew that C’rizz had a violent history and was “haunted” by his past murders. If I am right about this, then it does a lot to explain some of the nasty things that happen to C’rizz throughout his arc.
C’rizz looks similar to The Shape of Water creature
Seriously, when I saw this post I thought it was supposed to be C’rizz art at first. And I get that they’ve released an official design for C’rizz already, but nobody draws this boy consistently! Come on!!!!
Though the SOW creature is amphibian-based while C’rizz is chameleon-based. So C’rizz is probably less scale-y and more hide-y. But look at this image and tell me C’rizz’s head doesn’t look exactly like that come on
C’rizz has prehensile feet
Like this. Actually, for brevity’s sake, just assume that anything on Johannes’ blog is also a headcanon of mine.
The TARDIS doesn’t hate Charley
In Patient Zero, Mila goes on this whole rant about how the TARDIS wasn’t protecting Charley from her because the TARDIS disliked Charley due to her broken timeline. I think Mila got it backwards. The TARDIS wasn’t protecting Charley from her because the TARDIS knew things had to happen this way. It’s canon from The Doctor’s Wife that the TARDIS doesn’t experience time in linear order, so it makes sense that Six’s TARDIS would “see” Charley and go “Yep, I know how this is gonna go.”
Not to mention that even though the TARDIS has ulterior motives in Zagreus, it still goes out of its way to help, protect, and even talk to Charley throughout the course of that audio. The TARDIS likes Charley my dudes.
Robert made a move in the capsule
The “official” description of what happened is that they kissed because they thought they were going to die. But both the actual canon and the “making of” interviews feature a lot of people heavily implying that it was a lot more than just a kiss. I don’t think they did like... some nasty junk though. I’m imagining Robert probably touched her legs/hips/stomach, trying to get intimate basically. And like I said, Charley’s asexual, so her negative response after the fact just makes even more sense.
