where is bey | pt. i
Sweden. Wow. Who would've known that I'd be sitting here today planning for my journey around Europe.
I thought that I had left that life behind me years ago. I mean, honestly, I thought I wouldn't get the chance to go back to Sweden, let alone Europe, until I was starting to grow grey hairs.
You are probably confused...
Let me clear things up for you.
Hey there. Or should I say "Hej!" I'm Beteley. I'm a Pre-Law student, majoring in History with a double minor in Africana Studies and Legal Studies at Goucher College. Yeah, I know it's a mouth full. But I suppose it will look nice on my degree, lol.
I have some exciting news.
Well, for starters, I should probably tell you that...
I was born in Stockholm, Sweden.
sidenote: it's always my fun fact on the first day of school.
With that said...
This semester, Fall of 2018, I will be studying abroad in Stockholm, Sweden from August to December.
Yeah, I'm still in shock.
The thing is, I have not been back since I was about 9.
Lord knows, how excited I am. Not only do I have the opportunity to travel Europe, but I also get the chance to STUDY there. All I can say is that this is a dream come true.
During my four months abroad, I plan on experiencing many of the countries Europe has to offer. These places vary from the Blue Lagoon in Iceland to Santorini, Greece.
Now, I know that every location is not possible, but I will definitely be checking off a good portion of my bucket list and I’ll definitely be back.
While I know that European journeys often include beautiful instagram posts and snapchats, I will let you in on a little secret...
I hope to find myself along the way.
Hence the title of this blog, "Finding Bey."
This trip is dedicated to learning about countries and their histories, as the history junkie I am, but I hope to create a story for myself.
I am an Ethiopian, born in Sweden and raised in America. I have been exposed to so many cultures and this will be my chance to see how I relate to the world.
This will be my first time traveling alone for this long period of time, and believe me when I say, I am going to take advantage of my "me time."
When applying to college, studying abroad never crossed my mind. I always thought that traveling would be something I would do in my future, you know? Something that I would do AFTER settling into my career making big bucks. I mean, have you looked at flight tickets to Europe? They make you wish you never saw them.
But no.
Here I am telling you that I, Beteley, a first generation student, will be touring EUROPE this fall.
I'm so excited.
Now, if you have made it this far in this post, just know that I appreciate you... but here's where you come in....
For the next FOUR MONTHS, I will use this page as my travel blog...
What does that mean?
I will be documenting everything. This is will be a place for pictures of beautiful cities, vlogs of my experiences, random videos, and most of all...
My journal. I will update this page with stories and experiences that have truly impacted me during my time abroad.
This will essentially become a timeline of "Finding Bey."
By the end of the semester, I hope to be able to look back and reflect on where I began and where I am now. I want to be able to compare how this experience abroad will shape me into the person I aspire to be.
I will bring you along in this journey so you can experience it with me and hopefully, will inspire you to start planning your trip abroad.
I suppose, I should end this here.
So stay tuned.
Vi ses,
Bey
