A beard's story || Finan x OC
A/N: Mark posted a story in which he had shaved his beard, and well, this came to my mind! Enjoy lmaooo!
tags : @geekandbooknerd @solinarimoon @morosemagick @emilyhufflepufftlk @magravenwrites @poguesmaybank
Finan splashed his face with more water, his beard now wet enough to be cut. During the past months travelling all around England, he didn’t have the time to shave his beard in a while. With the small mirror in front of him, he grabbed his dagger and started to shorten it. He didn’t look away from his reflection when he heard light footsteps walking in the bedroom.
“What are you doing, Dada?” Edwen asked curiously, stopping next to Finan’s chair in front of the vanity.
Finan frowned as he tilted his head to let the blade run along his jaw, seeing the top of his daughter’s dark hair in the mirror. “I’m tryin to look less like a bear.” He muttered, concentrating on his task.
Edwen giggled at his answer and then turned away to walk around the bedroom and when she approached where he had rested his weapons and armor on the bed, out of the sight the mirror allowed him to have, he couldn’t fully focus anymore. He tried to look at her from the corner of his eyes when her footsteps stopped, knowing she had set her eyes on one of his weapons and his piece of armour.
“Edwen, don’t touch-”
“What’s that?”
Finan immediately turned his head, worried she had taken something and would hurt herself, the blade cutting his beard but also cheek in his movement, making him hiss at the small sharp pain. And indeed, she was holding a carved bone he usually stuck in his belt to easily stab a man in the neck when he was ripped off his sword or seax. Seeing his daughter, so innocent and ignorant of the horrors of battles, holding a weapon he had used to kill more men than he could count, was giving him a weird feeling. He paused a moment before blinking and standing up, resting the dagger on the vanity.
“It’s dangerous, sweetheart, ya’re not allowed to touch it.” He said in a firm tone, taking the bone from her hands kindly. Edwen pouted and Finan crouched in front of her, his fingers turning her face to his. “It’s not somethin’ to play with, ya could hurt yourself.” He explained to her, but her blue eyes left his own to stare at his cheek.
“Like you?” She asked, pointing at the left side of his face.
Her father frowned again and passed his fingers over his cheek to feel blood. He grumbled something in Irish as he walked back to the mirror.
“Jesus Christ.” He growled, not for the blood but for the hole in his beard, the area shaved so short that his skin was almost smooth under his fingertips.
The hole was literally in the middle of his beard, making it impossible to catch it up. Finan dropped in the chair with a loud exhale, closing his eyes. When he opened them again, Edwen was back at his side, an amused smile on her face.
“You have a hole here, Dada.” She giggled, her finger pressed against his cheek.
Finan rolled his eyes as he sighed. “Aye, I noticed.”
…
“I’m home!” Saegyth shouted in the house as she removed her cloak and rested it on a chair, expecting to see her daughter run out of her bedroom to greet her.
But Edwen seemed to take her time, so she decided to head toward her room to see what she was doing, her hand curving under her heavy belly. But before she reached the half opened door, she heard her hurry behind her.
“Mama!” She shouted.
Saegyth crouched just in time to catch her daughter and kiss her cheek. She had left early in the morning to spend some time with Ealhswith and Hild and hadn’t been here when Edwen had woken up. But it didn’t seem to have disturbed the little girl as she grinned broadly at her.
“Dada doesn’t look like a bear anymore.” She chuckled, pulling her hand to drag her toward her parents’ bedroom.
But Saegyth frowned confusedly and before she could ask what her daughter meant, Finan was standing in the bedroom doorway to give her an answer. Her mouth fell open as she stood up, eyes wide and brows raised as she tried to take in the face of her husband without a beard. The bottom of his face was perfectly shaved, disturbing her as she had never seen him like this before, and even if she could recognize his eyes, the shape of his nose and the scars slashing his skin, it took her a moment to not feel like staring at a stranger anymore.
Edwen was still giggling next to her and Saegyth couldn’t help but join her daughter in her amusement. Obviously, Finan didn’t share their laughter and started to grumble something inaudible, making him look more like a pouting teenager than anything else.
“God, what happened?” She asked him as she walked closer and realized how shaving his beard really took a handful of years away from his face.
Her fingers grazed on his smooth skin, stopping at the cut on his cheek. “It wasn’t on purpose. I turned my head to see what Edwen was doin’ and cut it too short.”
“I see.” She chuckled. “Well, it’s strange.” She commented as she continued to study his face, Finan glaring at her. “You look like a teenager but you don’t look that bad.” She smirked to annoy him, but to be honest, she would find him handsome no matter how he looked.
“Thank ya, I guess.” He muttered and she kissed his cheek, taking in the absence of the usual scratch of his beard.
“You know Sihtric and Osferth won’t miss an opportunity to tease you about it.” She warned him.
“I’m not goin’ to step out of this house until it has grown back!.”

Please, let him grow. - Finan x OC
A/N : I saw this few lines from ASOIAF, and god I needed to use it as a prompt. So as always Finan and Saegyth this time for a small drabble focused on their second son.
Word Count : 981
Warning : None
Saegyth had never liked to watch Finan leave for war. She never really got used to it, the taste of kisses that could be their last before he climbed on his horse. It always made this worry grow in her bones, aching constantly and invading her thoughts when she wasn’t busy. She kept wondering what he was doing, was he on the camp lighting a fire or already on the battlefield, shoulder to shoulder with Uhtred and Sihtric. She tried to avoid the most terrifying thoughts, leaving them to her worst nightmares.
For a long time, she hoped she wouldn’t have to feel the same worry for her children. She first saw Finan teach Edwen the rudiments of fights, but their oldest daughter saw in it no more than a game and never wished to particularly use her skills. It reassured Saegyth, her daughter knew how to defend herself but wouldn’t play with death more than necessary. Then, she saw Faolan and she immediately knew he wouldn’t be a warrior. Faolan was a dreamer, he was curious about the world and never found fighting entertaining. He learned though, because even the men without any fighting ambitions had to go to war for their Kings when they asked and Finan wouldn’t leave this world without making sure his sons were ready for war.
She started to worry the first day she saw Ailwin staring at his father and his brothers in arms when they were practicing. He was only seven and she could see the amazement in his eyes as he studied every move the men made. Somehow, she should have known it before, Ailwin was so much like Finan except for the blond locks covering his head. He had the same grin and eyes betraying his mischief too easily. He was always walking around Coccham with his father, curious about his job as Commander of Lord Uhtred’s household guard. Finan never minded, he was more than proud to teach his son how to be a warrior and to see that he enjoyed it.
Ailwin started his training at the same time as Aethelstan, the young prince Lord Uhtred was now in charge of. The boy was older than Ailwin, over two years, and yet Ailwin always managed to beat him. Ailwin had never been the most patient, he was reckless and was acting before thinking, but with a sword in hand, it was another boy than her son Saegyth was seeing. He was watchfull, his movements precise and thought so that he could break into his opponents’ guard. He was born to be a warrior and she would never be able to hold him back when battle would call for him.
And one day war called for him, and she had to stand by the gates and kiss him goodbye. Ailwin was fifteen, a tall boy, not yet taller than his father, but she guessed that in a few years he would. He had known blood and death already, following Lord Uhtred and his men into small fights against raiders, but Saegyth knew too well it was nothing like a shield wall.
She watched him from afar talk and laugh with his friends as they prepared their horses with a nostalgic smile, wishing he was still the small boy with curly blond hair she had seen make his first steps barefoot in the grass by the river to reach his father’s arms. She closed her eyes, he was still so young but he was already wearing his leather armor proudly, his sword hanging at his belt as he walked toward her.
Let him grow taller. She asked God, her fingers touching her cross. Let him know sixteen, and twenty, and fifty. Let him grow as tall as his father, and hold his own son in his arms. Please, please, please.
“I can see you worry from far away, Mother.” Her son said as he stopped in front of her.
She opened her eyes and had to look up slightly to cross his dark eyes. He wasn’t a boy anymore, his childish features disappearing day by day. But he wasn’t yet a man either. “I am your mother, I will always worry for you.” She reminded him before pulling him in her arms, his chuckle despite the tone of his voice now lower, still the same since he was a child.
She held him tightly, kissing his cheek as tears started to appear in her eyes. When Ailwin moved back, he wasn’t as enthusiastic as before, his brows furrowed and his shoulders tensed. Saegyth felt suddenly bad to have passed him her worries and she immediately wiped her tears.
“I am proud of you.” She told him, cupping his face and her thumbs rubbing his cheeks until a smile appeared on his face again. “And I love you very much.”
“I love you too, Mother.” He grinned and he laughed when she had to raise on her toes to kiss his forehead.
She let him go and she tried not to think of the day her own father came back from war without her oldest brother and how her mother had been devastated by the loss of her child. An arm came to wrap around her shoulders, she leaned into Finan’s side and he tugged her head under his chin, his fingers brushing her hair.
“He’ll be in the back line, mo ghrá. He’ll be fine.” He assured her and she nodded silently.
“You better bring your son in one piece.” She warned him, moving back to cross his gaze.
“So now ya don’t worry for me anymore?” Finan asked, pretending to be offended.
Saegyth rolled her eyes before softly smiling at him. “Of course I worry for you, my love.” Her hand reached for his face, her fingers brushing his greying beard as she pulled him down to kiss him. “Always.”

13 handholding for Finan and Saegyth?
A/N: Very short because I know I can't write a real smut without going further than a 1000 words ahah
linking hands together during sex
Finan's hands were calloused, scarred and almost constantly bruised. Saegyth had never seen him coming back from a fight without bloody hands needing to be cleaned.
Today was one of these days, Finan coming back from a fight near Wessex border. It had been far from a battle like he had previously known, but it didn't prevent him from opening his knuckles during the fight. They were sitting in their bed, their children already asleep in their bedroom, Saegyth carefully wrapping a bandage around his now cleaned hand.
“Since I know you, has there ever been even a day when I didn't have to take care of your wounds?” She asked him, with a smile.
Finan chuckled, wriggling his fingers now that she was done with his bandage. “I doubt it. I think ya've been God sent to take care of me for eternity.” He grinned.
Saegyth shook her head, amused. “And what do I get in return for my kindness?”
Finan's grin turned into a mischievous smirk, leaning forward until his lips were almost brushing hers. “I pleasure you.”
“Well,” She whispered, her eyes crossing his own burning with a sudden desire, her heart beating faster. “I have just tended to your wound.”
“And I shall thank you.” He replied before finally kissing her.
He was first tender, his good hand cradling her head, fingers tangling in her hair as he pushed her down on the bed. It became more passionate as they got rid of their clothes, the air thickening between them.
Saegyth couldn't get tired of it, the feeling of his touch and mouth seeming everywhere at once on her body. It was intoxicating and overwhelming, and the only thing she could hold onto was his hand. Her fingers were intertwined with his as he thrusted in her, desperately needing to hold onto something. Her hands were small and fragile compared to his, and yet her grip was rough and firm, her nails sinking into his skin. But Finan didn't complain, he loved being both the reason and the solution to her need to grab something.
When they had both reached their high, a sweet feeling of exhaustion now running through their veins, Finan kept her close to him, their hands still joined. He brought them to his lips, kissing the back of her hand gently as his half-opened eyes studied her face in the darkness.
“I hope you'll keep taking care of me for a long time.” He whispered, his thumb caressing her soft skin.
“You said it was for eternity.” She reminded him, moving closer to rest her head against his shoulder.
Finan closed his eyes, turning his head to kiss the top of her head. “Even eternity seems too short, mo ghrá.”

Murmuro & Finan x Saegyth 👀
A/N : i just love dad finan, and who's going to blame me for it uh?
The storm raging outside had finally turned into a peaceful rain, but it didn’t prevent Finan from coming back home with his cloak utterly soaked. Luckily, they had succeeded to hide from the storm while scouting around Coccham, when it still was a waterfall falling from the sky. Now, even if the dark clouds had faded, there wasn’t any light, the sun having discreetly disappeared under the horizon line.
He sighed exhaustively when he dropped his cloak on the back of a chair. He noticed that the house was particularly silent except from the babbling sound coming out of his bedroom, the febrile light of a candle visible from the small opening of the door.
He walked toward the door, stretching out his arms as he yawned loudly, but as soon as he stepped into the bedroom he came to an alt, a finger resting suddenly on his lips.
“Hush, they are sleeping.” Saegyth whispered, standing next to him with a blond toddler chewing his fingers in her arms.
His gaze drifted from her to their bed where he saw two small shapes under the covers. Edwen and Faolan were deeply asleep, taking almost all the space in the bed when they wererespectively barely six and three years old. He stared back at his wife, her finger having left his lips and raised an eyebrow.
“We’ve been robbed of our bed.” He commented, not speaking too loud.
Saegyth rolled her eyes with a smile. “They were scared of the thunder.” She explained and Finan hummed, understanding.
His gaze lowered to his youngest son who had stretched out his hands, wanting to be in his father’s arms. “And why is this one still awake, uh?” He asked quietly, picking up Ailwin and kissing his cheek, the scratch of his beard making the boy chuckle.
“As always,” Saegyth sighed tiredly, brushing back her son’s blond curls. “He won’t go to sleep without a goodnight from his father.”
Ailwin looked from his mother to father, babbling cheerfully. “And not even ashamed of troublin’ your mother?” Finan joked before he turned his head to kiss his wife’s forehead. “I’ll take care of our trouble maker.” He then looked back to their two other children and sighed. “Then we’ll figure out how to not sleep on the floor.” He grimaced.
Saegyth covered her mouth as she giggled. “I think we’ve slept on worse than our floor, love.”
“Doesn’t mean we have too!” He whisper-shouted as he left for another room.

4, 12 && 21 for Saegyth 😏😏
4) What they would do if they had one month to live.
I think she would go on a trip all around the places she likes with the people she loves and live her best (short) life. Like feasting and spending time with friends and family mostly.
12) How they sleep.
Listen, I like to think that Finan is the one sleeping awkwardly and would definitely kick her out of the best accidentally lmaoo. So let's say she tries to find a way to stay in the bed all night and cuddle sleeping seemed to work 😌
21) Their fondest childhood memory
Even if her brother Aelwulf turned out to be an arse recently, her fondest memory includes him and their mother, picking flowers in the garden back in Dorchester, Aelwulf trying to make her believe fairies are living in the flowers lmaoo
