Thoughts on The Bad Batch Episode 7 - Extraction - A Discussion Post

This episode was full of even more action and a lot more thoughts and theories than the episode before it. Let's dive into the second part!

Before Episode 6 ended, the clones' base on Teth was attacked, and the CX trooper emerges from the rubble that fell on him, clearly alive and well. He looks around, as there is no one to be found.

Everyone is doing okay, but the rubble blocks their way out. Batcher finds a different way out as they decide to take that way, sticking together to reach a ship they can use to contact Echo.

Wolffe arrives at the base, realizing that there were clones who were attacked. He meets CX-2, asking him what his orders were, who refuses to tell him that. Wolffe makes him follow his orders only, while the CX trooper keeps following his own orders. I've seen posts on the parallels between Tech's limping in Season 2 to how CX-2 was limping here, and I'm living for those parallels to keep the theories going. The CX trooper can't reach his ship after his device was damaged, so he sticks with the others.

Also, I love Clone Commander Hilo already.

The boys and Omega manage to find the ship and get it working to make their escape. Batcher starts licking Nemec, and Omega says, "Don't worry. She only bites half of the time," which was funny. Batcher loves all of the clones around her.

While trying to escape, CX-2 shoots their ship down, making their escape fail. They crash into the jungle.

Wolffe argues with CX-2 after he shot their ship down, and tracks down the crashed ship. CX-2 goes with while they try to continue their efforts to retrieve Omega.

Everyone makes it out of the crash safely, continuing to run. Crosshair checks in on Omega, who gets annoyed by his continuous questions. I love how overprotective he started becoming here. Omega said, "You're as bad as Hunter", and Crosshair said, "Oh, I'm much worse." MY HEART-

Howzer starts to talk to Crosshair calmly after seeing how he interacts with Omega and takes care of her, realizing that he's not the same clone he met on Ryloth anymore. Crosshair opens up about how he feels about loyalty, as that is something he values highly. With the Empire betraying him, there was no way he was going to stay loyal to them.

The Empire locates them, as they fight and protect each other. I loved the way that Wrecker had protected Batcher and Hunter was protecting Omega in this scene. CX-2 attacks them as well, and Crosshair decides to go after him. Omega didn't like that idea, to which he responded, "Too bad."

RIP to Nemec 😭

Crosshair faces off against CX-2 in an aggressive fight, and anyone else getting the Winter Soldier vibes here? CX-2 starts talking to Crosshair, saying, "You had your chance to become one of us. You chose the wrong side." If this is Tech, that's going to hurt so much afterwards. If it's someone else, it's still going to hurt. CX-2 manages to take down Crosshair, but is attacked by the others who saves Crosshair. He falls down the waterfall, left behind.

The Empire catches up to the squad, as Rex finally meets Wolffe face-to-face. Wolffe thought Rex was dead after reading the reports, and he believes in the Empire's cause. Rex tries to tell him that he's making the wrong choice and that clones are being hurt because of them, but Wolffe isn't able to believe anything right now.

Echo arrives with Gregor, as Rex waits for Wolffe to make a choice; either leave the Empire and come with them, or stay. Wolffe decides to stay, and allows the squad to leave safely. Rex looks back on Wolffe, and Gregor looks at the whole scene. They have no idea they're going to be roommates in the near future.

I swear, Wolffe looks so good in today's animation. He watches the clones leave, returning to his own squad. I can't wait until he joins them and realizes his mistakes.

CX-2 emerges from the water after going down the waterfall. Another parallel to Tech, though, who knows. My head kept expecting him to take off his helmet so he could get some air, though I guess it's too early for that still.

Rex looks so tired in the back, and Hunter goes to talk to him. Rex immediately straightens up, acting like everything's fine. (Sir, you need to take a break and let your feelings run through.) Hunter tells him he can't keep running forever, but Rex doesn't want to stop fighting yet. We know he will eventually leading up to Rebels, and I fear what will happen to make him stop.

They both talk about Omega, and Hunter vows that they will keep her safe. Rex tells Hunter they have to find out why the people on Tantiss want her so badly, and the two look at a peacefully sleeping Omega, exhausted from the fighting. She is so precious, we all need to protect her.

We lost good soldiers in both of these episodes, and there's still a whole lot to figure out. Every episode so far in this season is hitting a really good mark, as every single one is so exciting. I can't wait for whatever comes in store in the future, so let's keep the theories going!

Okay, people freaking out that CX-2 hasn't been revealed yet because the finale is going to be too late for anything to happen if it's Tech, but like, have y'all seen The Winter Soldier? Like yeah WS was revealed to be Bucky but he didn't just get over 60+ years of torture and brainwashing and immediately jump back into the fray of the good guys. He saved Steve at the very end of the movie and then made himself disappear. We never saw him join the heroes until the third Cap movie came out.

The way I see it, the CX-2 reveal happening at the very end indicates another story yet to come. We don't know how many clones have been subjected to Hemlock's torture and experimentation or for how long. Their identities are erased and the very first CX clone Captain Rex caught referred to himself as a Believer before chomping down on his electric suicide pill implant. And for some reason, that clone was immediately able to recognize him as Captain Rex.

If there's one thing that would cause an uprising, it's the clones finding out that their brothers have been sent to Hemlock for reprogramming since the Clone Wars and that's a really horrific revelation they'll have to contend with on top of the fact that all of it is already horrific to begin with. I'm pretty sure that's where they would have sent Fives if Azi hadn't told him that he heard Fives was going to be reprogrammed and his memory erased.

How many clones believed to be dead were actually being experimented on by Hemlock? There's a lot to explore there, but this is a series about the Bad Batch. We were introduced to our first CX assassin in season 2, and then we met two more this season. One who is probably Tech.

And a reveal in the series finale probably means the story is going to continue elsewhere with Captain Rex and the other clones fighting for their rights as autonomous beings in a galaxy where they have zero clone representation in the Galactic Senate. They're still property of the Empire at this point.

Maybe it's the optimist in me, but I'm not going to throw my hands up in the air and assume that the team just tricked us into thinking it was Tech so they could retain viewers. He "died" at the end of the second season in a three act series about Clone Force 99.

New Chapter 🚨

Making Enemies Already?

"Right, suns up so you should be too!" Tony exclaimed, stepping of the elevator.

It's just after 7am and Bucky had come back from his morning run with Steve and joined me in the living room for coffee but we were interrupted by Wanda and Sam coming up to spend time with me. Sam says he came to see me but really I think he wanted to hangout with Bucky. From what I've heard for Bucky they seem to have a secret love hate relationship. Tony made his way to the living room to greet us, stopping abruptly when he saw it wasn't just Bucky and I.

"Well can't say I'm surprised, you seem like his type. And Sam like to rile him up anyway." He said, eyes flicking between me and Bucky as if trying to suggest something.

"I don't know what that means and I'm not gonna ask." I replied.

"He's trying to suggest something about us." Bucky smirked.

"Would he be wrong?" I grin, this playful teasing was always something we did. But I seem to forget we have an audience, who are shocked at this, their mouths hanging on the ground.

"If he's talking about the past, he's right." He continued.

"Alright as confused as I am, I'm sure I'm not the only one, we have things to do." Tony interrupted. "So enough chitchat, this is for you and I have some more stuff for you in my office. Where we have things to discuss about your contribution to the team."

Tony hands me a rectangular black box, upon further inspection I find it to be a high tech phone produced by Stark Industries. I knew this was apart of the deal when I agreed to be a recruit. I look up to find Tony already waiting at the elevator for me, so I turned around and waved goodbye to everyone. Wanda and Sam both grabbed their belongings and their breakfasts and made their way down one of the other hallways. Bucky smiled softly as me and returned my wave with his own, and after looking around for prying eyes he cheekily blew me a kiss. I assume he's doing it in a playful manner but it was something we did when we were together during our entrapment at Hydra.

FLASHBACK

My body aches from all the strenuous training I've been doing to avoid the typical Hydra beatings. I'd been doing everything I could from training with the Red Room Widows once a week, guns, knives, agility, stealth and under the right conditions even my magic and abilities. I even made a friend in the Red Room she told me her name was Yelena but it seemed like she was close to the end of her training as she has her ceremony at the end of the month. At least I finally have a mattress to sleep on which means I'm more comfortable than I would've been. I'm about to get ready to head to the labs for a new experiment. Yeah I haven't quite figured out how to prove myself above that part of Hydra.

"Doll?" A deep voice asks.

"Sarg?" I reply.

"I went down to the labs to see if I could find out what they had in store for you, but no luck." Bucky admitted.

"No different from any other time. It's ok, I'm used to it by now." I said.

"You're so strong, you can get through anything." He stated, placing a sweet but fleeting kiss on my lips.

We are still cautious about showing physical affection as Hydra doesn't know about our relationship. As we don't know what they'd do about it, I think they were hoping we'd come together on our own so they didn't have to force it. From one of the files I found in the Red Room stated that Hydra had plans to breed experiments and any males would be put through the winter soldier program and the females would be given to the Red Room. It doesn't say who they planned to breed but it seems super soldiers and assassins are what they had in mind. Either way Hydra decided to put us in the same room as we were often on missions or training together, it just made sense apparently.

"So that's the phone bit sorted and I understand that Nat and Wanda both told you about the social media. Now you aren't expected to jump onto TikTok of Instagram but you can if you want to but you'll need approval from the social manager before posting and they'll set up accounts for you. Otherwise you are expected to appear at one or more events each month, if it's a charity event your expected no matter what but other than that you can pick and choose which ones to attend." Tony said. "I'll draw you up a schedule for the week to week so you know when team bonding days are as well as meal times in the communal dining hall. We can book the gym for when you'd prefer to workout but you'll probably be stuck using it at the same time as someone else."

"I'm not a fan of phones as it is but I understand the requirement for them, but I won't be using social media. I'm happy to attend any events that come up but I do have a couple questions about that before we do a schedule." I replied.

"Ask away then." He stated, resting back in his chair.

"Well I don't have any money so am I expected to get a job to pay for these expenses for dresses and shoes for an event? Do I need at date at these things? Is Hades allowed to join?" I asked, I think I know the answer about Hades attending but there's no harm in asking.

"Ahh that reminds me you'll get a team card, it's a card that's used for all team members that stay here and it's always got plenty of money on it, you can use that for whatever you need events or everyday stuff. You don't necessarily need a date to all these events, some will require one, but it never hurts to go with someone for company. Which I'm sure terminator wouldn't mind lending a hand." Tony joked. "Uh strictly no animals at any events other than stuff held here at the campus with only other Avengers in attendance. Unless Hades is a certified assistance animal, which is what Alpine is so she'll be at some events if Barnes doesn't have any company."

"Look I don't know what you thinks going on between me and Bucky but it's in the past we are just getting to know each other, again." I clarified.

"It's none of my business what happens between teammates and their sheets but I think a girlfriend would be beneficial for him. Plus I had over heard a few conversations between him and Cap, talking about the love he found in Hydra and how he wanted to get clear of his trigger words and look for her. I'm assuming that means more to you than me." Tony smirked, seemingly piecing all these pieces together like a large and intricate puzzle.

"We have a history but for now we are just friends getting to know each other again. If something happens between us we will let you know." I joked.

"Again it's none of my business and there's no rules against relationships between Avengers otherwise Natasha would be under investigation." Tony said. "But now that we've gotten the formalities and details out of the way we can discuss the good stuff. Such as your uniforms, you'll get one for training and one for missions. It's up to you what design you want unless you'd like your Hydra uniform modified with an Avengers logo. Here's the designs I've had drawn up for you. The first one is the set training uniform everyone gets but you'll get your name or hero name embroidered on the back. You can pick out of the others what you'd prefer. What do you think?"

He place a Manila envelope on the desk and slid it to me, to look through. I didn't really think about changing what I wore, I'm just used to the feel of what Hydra gave me. Even though my uniform left little to the imagination but that was Hydra's plan. To distract the target with my body especially if (in the beginning) I couldn't fight. It gave the Winter Soldier a chance to take a shot or sedate them.

"I'm not expecting a decision right now, I understand from what Fury has told me, that Hydra has hurt you more than any of us can imagine. But I want you to have this opportunity to choose how the public views you, whether that's as a whole new version or the better version of what you were." He added, remorse evident in his eyes. "I know they used the fact that your a woman against their enemies, that they sexualised you and never took you seriously because they had the Winter Soldier as their weapon but in this team you are apart of every decision and debriefing that affects you."

"Thank you so much for understanding but I think I want to make this decision now and if it's not too much to ask for I'd like the first design but still be able to wear my old uniform when I want to." I said, withholding my tears as I would not cry in front of him.

"By all means, you have full control here. I'll get the suit put together and fitted with some nano technology to absorb pressure and redirect it, as well as some other stuff like fire resistance and what not to protect it from your abilities." He shared. Handing over my schedule that he was typing up as I made my decision, it only needed a couple of things added from what everyone else had on their but still needed to be done.

"Other than that that's pretty much everything, Fury went through the rules and expectations of you as apart of this team so I won't rehash that crap. But I will let you know that I've added an event to your schedule which you'll need to do your homework for. As we are having a team baseball game where we are splitting the team in half and we will verse each other and which ever team wins gets to choose which charity all the donations go to. And as a bonus everyone will represent a different charity in hopes of winning MVP to donate $5 million to. I'll get you fitted for your uniform when we do a fitting tomorrow for the uniform as well." Tony said.

"That sounds like fun actually, are the enchanted players allowed to use their abilities?" I asked.

"Yes as we've split the team in order to level the playing field. So you'll be on a team with Natasha, Steve, Bucky, Scott and a few others, then on my team there's Wanda, Peter, Bruce or Hulk, Thor and some others." He stated.

"So you're putting all the super soldiers on one team?" I inquired, wondering if there's any theory behind this madness or if it was simply overlooked.

"Yes but that's so I could have a God and a chemically enhance giant, Thor and Hulk if Bruce agrees to play as Hulk." He confesses.

"Hmm I hope your a gracious looser Mr Stark." I share, standing and moving towards the door with my schedule and some miscellaneous paperwork in hand.

"I guess we will never know, see you around." He farewelled.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~Time Skip: Lunch~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Here she is!" Sam exclaims, speaking to a blonde woman with her back towards me.

"Yup here I am." I state, everyone standing around the table looking towards me and smiling in greeting.

But the only person I take note of is Bucky, who's standing next to Sam and Steve. He shares a cunning grin with Steve, I wonder what that's about. I make a mental note to ask him later.

"Aspyn Davis meet Sharon Carter, Sharon meet Aspyn oh and her pet wolf Hades." Sam introduces.

"Nice to meet you. Are you another Avenger?" I ask in greeting. The scowl on her face is a tell tale sign that I've offended her somehow.

"She wishes!" Bucky scoffs, rolling his eyes.

"I can't say the same, Witch. This team already has an enhanced magic user, actually a few." She snidely said.

"Wow ok not that I need you approval as you're clearly not good enough to join the team but I'm a lot more than a Witch. You say Witch like it's a bad thing." I scoff, already deciding I do not like this girl one bit and I don't think I'm the only one with Nat and Wanda glaring at her with crossed arms.

"You know what-" she starts, moving towards me with her fists clenched.

She came to an abrupt halt when Hades moved in front of me snarling and drooling in anticipation for a fight. But before she could move another inch or Hades could pounce Steve stepped between them facing Sharon.

"I think you should leave, you got what you came for. I pick you up tonight for our date, see you at 6pm." Steve said, trying to diffuse the situation.

Hades looked to me for his command to attack or retreat, to which I directed him to sit between my legs in his guard position.

"Whatever. I don't have enough air to waste anymore on her." She sneers, grabbing Steve's arm and walking them both to the elevator doors.

"Well I can't say your the first girl she didn't like on the team. But I think she got the hint that you aren't to be messed with." Sam comments.

"The feeling's mutual, next time I may just accidentally confuse which command tells Hades to retreat with the attack one." I scoff, half seriously.

"She's a bitch anyway, don't sweat it. I'm still weirded out by the fact that she's trying to get into Steve's bed when he's head over heels for her deceased Aunt." Bucky stated, hand resting on my arm in comfort.

Sometimes I forget just how deep our history goes and how he knows my triggers and short temper. He also pays Hades on the head affirming his concern for my safety in the moments just gone.

"Believe me I'm not going go." I share.

"At least she's over her I wanna be an Avenger phase otherwise that could've gotten a lot messier." Wanda says, joining our little huddle.

"Yes and thankfully she's not still trying to sleep with Bucky as well as Steve, I think she's realised just how much Steve loves his customs from the 1940's." Nat shares, also joining the conversation with a sour expression across her face.

"Wait really?!" I ask, doubling over in laughter at Sharon's expense.

I know full well that Bucky wouldn't touch her with a ten foot pole, I know even as the Winter Soldier he was hesitant in having a physical relationship with me.

"Hey you better be laughing about the Steve part!" Bucky chides, knowing what I may have been thinking about.

"If it helps you sleep at night then yes I was." I said, still giggling.

"Not that that helps anyway." He whispered, so quietly that without the super soldier hearing I would've missed it. Another thing I'll ask about when we eventually get this coffee he promised.

"Alright enough with the drama, lunch is served. Everyone sit down and help yourself, we have baseball practice tonight so you'll need all you energy." Tony announces.

On offer for lunch was build your own burger and a range of salads and sides to go with it. You'd think for an elite team of heroes they be eating something greener but the food options seems to range from this to pop tarts apparently. That's according to what Nat and Wanda said as we sat down talking about how meal time usually goes when the campus has all its residents. But currently Clint is with his family, Thor is back in Asgard and Peter is staying with his Aunt during school and here during the school breaks. I'm avidly listening and contributing to the conversation as they move on to the topic of baseball and the female uniforms for the event. Well that was until I felt and all to familiar hand placed on my thigh under the table. I look over to see none other than Bucky looking innocent as ever animatedly talking to Steve and Scott. If I wasn't so used to this I would've thought it was an accident and he hadn't realised what he was doing but I can tell from the way the corner of his mouth is curved up ever so slightly.

Instead of doing the smart thing I decide to let this place out as if I'm unaffected by his advances. Boy was that a mistake, as he takes my silence as an agreement to continue with his cheeky plans. The deliciously warm hand move up closer to the crease where my thigh meets my hip, he leaves it there not moving any further. Leaving wet and tense hoping for something, anything more than simply his touch. He knows what he's doing as we've played this game before and it always end with the both of us in a compromising position.

"Aspyn!" Wanda exclaims. "What do you think about skirts or a dress instead of pants?"

"Uh yeah that's fine, might work in our favour as it might distract the guys or being in a little more donations." I said, completely stupified by the hand that sits slightly between my thighs.

"Good think but I was thinking more along the lines of it being cooler on us." Nat said, sending a knowing wink from beside me.

She has a complete view of the hand on my thigh, it doesn't help that her Red Room training has her on high alert at all times so she notices things like this. Wanda begins talking to Tony from across the table about this idea whilst Nat and I share a look one of knowing and the other of shame. Don't get me wrong I don't want him to move his hand away, actually if he moved it to my core I wouldn't be opposed, but I feel bad that I've been caught and watched by a new friend. With no one paying any attention to us Nat writes something on a napkin before sliding it towards me.

'You should return the favour. If he can tease you, why not tease him?' It says.

I smirk at her, all shame washing away, I agree why should he have all the fun and let me be the only one affected. With that in mind Nat joins conversation with Wanda and Tony, whilst I get right to work. I place my hand on his to begin with, he stiffens thinking I'm about to push him off. Instead I begin to play with his fingers a stoke his palm, tracing pattern into his large hand. Then after a few uninterrupted seconds I push him further by removing my hand and placing it on his knee continuing the patterns. I wait a few more seconds before walking my hand up his thick muscled thigh letting in rest just beside his crouch. He instantly tenses, I watch with enhance vision as his muscles all contract and bulge against his pants. My gaze eventually lands on his slightly tented crouch, I smirk knowing I've got him exactly where I want him. So I just relax my bad and leave it there.

I look over at Nat who's watching me with keen eyes, we make eye contact and I wink, causing her to smirk with me. I start listening to Steve's conversation, wondering what was so interesting that Bucky didn't continue on from what he was alluding to under the table. I feel as his hand roughly grasps my thigh and releases it as if it bring my attention back to him. But I stay strong ignoring him, he tries again and gets no response still so he turns to look at me. He eyes pleading for me to continue or move my hand away. So as I ponder my options I decide to give him a taste of what could have been if he had of continued before. I raise my hand making him look down thinking I was pulling away, only to move my hand to grasp his thick cock. Not too hard but just enough for him to feel me and enjoy it. His response sends a wave of wetness through my underwear instantly making me seep through to the inside of my thighs. I feel him twitch and harden in my hand before I suddenly retract my hand making him whine. The team all look at me as I slide my chair out as I stand up.

"That was delicious, thank you Tony. I'm gonna head back to my room and get to unpacking the rest of my stuff. I'll see you all later for training I guess." I say, waving goodbye as I walk away.

Hearing a mumble chorus of good byes and see you laters from the group. I look back as I step into the elevator to see both Bucky and Nat looking at me, Nat smirking at me before looking to Bucky. Bucky looks at me in disbelief for a moment before a cunning grin graces his face and he mouths 'this isn't over'. He maintains eye contact with me as the doors close only looking away when the door shields our field of view.

I realise I left Hades downstairs, so I quickly flick a message to Wanda asking her to bring him up with her, she instantly responds with a yes and say 'I have some questions about what just happened, I can read minds and Bucky is screaming for you'. I smile to myself, relishing in the realisation that maybe Bucky and I still have an undeniable connection on multiple levels.

A/N- wow that was a bigger chapter that's for sure. Things are really heating up for our beloved Aspyn and her lost flame. Can't wait to write the next chapter and see what happens next for them, wonder what Bucky is going to do to get back at her. A Winter Soldier Christmas: My Marvel Special Presentation Idea

One of my favorite ideas Marvel Studios implemented in Phase 5 were the Holiday Specials or "Marvel Special Presentations". Both Werewolf by Night and The Guardians Holiday Special were unique, fun, and fresh in a way the MCU has not in a real long time.

(On a side note, I think Marvel should lean on these once or twice a year and a show once a year as opposed to 3 shows a year. They're short, fun, inconsequential, and are just fun for those in the know.)

While I know these presentations can be used for expanding the universe, or setting up new projects, I think they're at their best when they're having fun and not thinking about any wider universe.

While watching the Guardians Christmas Special, I had an idea I thought I'd share for a Marvel Special Presentation. I want to pitch to you just a fun Christmas story centered around the least Christmasy guy in the MCU: Bucky Barnes.

We start with a flashback to 1940s Bucky captured by Hydra, struggling to be held down by doctors. We see Arnim Zola step into the room, upset.

"Now this won't do. Contain him."

Two droids step in from behind Zola and hold him down.

Bucky screams as Arnim injects him to begin testing.

"It won't be long now Sergeant Barnes..."

We fast forward to Bucky Barnes begrudgingly going to a large Christmas party in New York City on behalf of The Avengers. They are to be rewarded by a big company (maybe Oscorp?) for their bravery, and with no other Avenger able to attend and Bucky in need of Christmas plans, he gathers courage to show up.

Midway through the party, right before Bucky tries to find a way to exit quietly, the buildings high tech security goes on lockdown, trapping all within the building.

Yes, this is a Die Hard homage.

Bucky will now how to protect all in attendance and stop whoever or whatever is coming into the building, with nothing but his robot arm and his skills.

Once he is able to leave the floor, he finds several robotic droids, crawling through vents, scanning technology on every floor, advanced in nature, seemingly searching for something. He struggles with a few, but is able to best them.

The bots seems extremely familiar, but he can't quite place it. Right before he destroys one, it scans him, and sends an alert to all other robots. The droids are here for him.

Bucky now has come to realize his greatest fear has come true, Zola is still alive. While his body and original AI version is dead, Steve and Bucky knew there was a possibility there were copies of Zola, and Hydra could live again.

If any of these drones can take him or even sedate him, Zola will have the fist of Hydra again, and Bucky will be a helpless slave once again.

Winter Soldier has the realization that all droids can be taken down by an EMP, which Oscorp has on its top floor. If he can deactivate all drones at once, it will draw out Zola, where he can kill him finally and finish this.

Bucky makes his way there, battling droids all with a lock on his location. I'm no fight choreographer, but I want fluid fast paced one v one action we haven't seen in awhile from Bucky. I'm talking Captain America: Winter Soldier pushed to the brim.

Bucky, with barely anything left in him, is able to send out the EMP, making all robots, and his arm, useless. With a gun in his hand and fear in his eyes, Bucky waits for Zolas return at the door of the Elevator.

"It won't be long now Sergeant Barnes..." rings in his ears. We see Arnim looming over Bucky in his mind, as we hear something coming up the elevator shaft.

As it gets closer we zoom in to see the fear in Bucky's eyes.

This is Bucky's last stand.

The doors begin to open...

and out comes:

Nebula.

Now for those paying attention, you might remember I said I got this idea from The Guardians Holiday Special. In this special, Nebula gifts Rocket a very interesting gift:

Bucky's arm. This entire story has been Nebula trying to find Rocket the perfect gift but from Bucky's perspective.

The droids were all alien technology, Ravager stolen and retooled by Nebula, which is why they seemed so familiar. They were on the Battlefield in Endgame with the Ravagers.

Nebula, seemingly unfazed by the gun or Bucky wounded and beaten up, just walks up to him.

"Hey, Jimmy was it? I don't remember. I'm just here for the arm."

Which she just takes, as it has fallen off due to the EMP.

"Merry Christmas."

Nebula than flies away, leaving Bucky flabbergasted.

"What he F--"

And that's the story. Just a really bad day for Bucky, reliving some trauma and battling droids all because Nebula wanted to give Rocket the perfect Christmas. It ties back to The Guardians Holiday Special in a way that feels fun, but also lets the special be its own thing.
