this time, my excuse for missing the race was a family brunch for easter sunday (happy easter to anyone celebrating!), but i was able to watch the first lap before i had to leave...

so i managed to see the turn 1 fiasco, and the safety car incident and then had to wait 3 hours knowing that 😭

turn 1 was the most exciting part of the race for sure, having caught up. oscar's start was absolutely *chef's kiss* 👌 which put him side-by-side with max into the turn

max cut the corner, which resulted in him getting a 5-second penalty that he served in the pits, which put him behind oscar for the remainder of the race

i personally think the penalty was warranted. after watching the onboard, it's clear oscar had the corner, but i don't blame max for trying at all. both drivers are going to do whatever it takes to win and it made for a super exciting moment!

i think max knew exactly what he was doing, and decided any potential repercussions couldn't be worse than being stuck in a mclaren's dirty air. i honestly don't think it would have made much of a difference if he had given the place back to oscar or not, but it would have made for some more exciting racing

the dirty air problem just sucks, because drivers would rather use fia punishments to their "advantage" (ex: cutting corners) than be stuck in it

this is not specific to max btw! kimi did the same thing in turn 1, and gave the position back to charles

pierre and yuki had a threesome with the barrier and were knocked out of the race, bringing out the safety car right away (and lando up to p8)

lmao i'm living for the sassy alex radios

the lando vs. lewis battle was funny asf 😭 the exact same thing happened twice with a drs bait from lewis: lando overtook to exit first on the final corner and lewis took it back in the first corner... until lando's engineer reminded him strat 8 existed on attempt #3

ironically, even though lewis was fighting in the trenches the entire race, the little game of duck duck goose might have secured charles' podium

good recovery drive from lando!

gabi and alonso nearly had an ✨inchident✨ on the track

race pace evaporated, tires 🔥 cooked in like 2 laps, george displeased, kimi on the verge of tears/passing out/nausea/heatstroke (get the kid the fuckass space jacket pronto)

williams proving that teamwork still exists in f1 in the year of our lord 2025 when carlos slowed to keep alex in drs range behind him, so isack couldn't overtake

james vowels had a dream about this one. it's true, i was there ☝️

because at this point, i'm convinced the dotd is voted purely for points in f1 fantasy, i'll be sharing my own driver of the day each race

which goes to charles leclerc! ferrari's first podium, and he was an absolute monster keeping incredibly strong pace in the lead on those mediums from the literal stone age 😭 and then keeping lando's mclaren behind in the remaining laps. absolute masterclass 👏 ferrari please give this man a good car. what more can he do?!

the screwderia may have forgotten how to build a car over winter break, but i'll be damned if they haven't nailed the pitstops. strategy also didn't flop this time hmm interesting

New art, card names, and release date

We got some new stuff on Thursday evening and I finally have the time to talk about it.

First off, new art (light spoiler warning for Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII Remake):

Art for two cards that forms a panorama. The first one depicts Sephiroth, the main villain of Final Fantasy VII, the second depicts Cloud, its protagonist. The panorama shows that they're battling.

The background shows the collapsed expressway, the location of their fight at the end of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Now, for the cardnames

This illustration of Emet-Selch will be used for the card named "Emet-Selch, Unsundered"

This illustration of Lightning will be used for the card named "Lightning, Army of One"

These names don't reveal much, other than that the cards will most likely be legendary creatures but that was already somewhat expected. I'll once again talk more about them once we see the actual cards, and maybe I'll even have played Final Fantasy XIII by then.

There is one other card name that has been revealed, but to talk about it, I'll have to get into some pretty heavy Final Fantasy X and X-2 spoilers, so be warned.

This illustration of the underwater kiss between Yuna and Tidus will be used for the card named "Together forever".

Now if you've played Final Fantasy X, that's already going to hurt, but it is also notable for being a reprint of a card from Battlebond.

I'm not entirely sure into how much detail I should go when explaining cards so if I end up explaining too much or too little, please let me know.

Together Forever is an enchantment, which is a permanent type, meaning it stays on the board (the 'battlefield') after you play it.

Together Forever allows you to support 2 after you play it, meaning you can put a +1/+1 counter on up to two creatures, a counter that permanently increases a creature's power and toughness. In the fiction of the card, this represents Yuna and Tidus becoming stronger from their love for each other.

Together Forever also has an activated ability, allowing you to pay 1 mana of any color to choose a creature with a counter on it (such as the +1/+1 counter from support 2) to make it go to its owner's hand the next time it would die, saving its life and letting you replay it.

I actually don't think this is that flavourful of an effect. Yes, both Yuna and Tidus save each other's life over the course of the games, but I don't think this effect represents that particularly well.

The art in combination with the name is great though.

Last but not least, we have an official release date: June 13th, 2025. If you're unfamiliar with Magic but interested in this set, you should also know that a week before a set's full release, so on June 6th, game stores can hold so-called prereleases, allowing people to play with the new cards early. Also, assuming they're not changing their schedules yet again, the set will release on digital clients (Magic Arena, Magic Online) on the Tuesday before the full release, so June 10th.

She’d become just like the fiends wandering this Yevon-forsaken place, her humanity reduced to a mere memory of the woman she’d once been. Perhaps, if Lulu could carry her into the Calm Lands, another summoner might be passing through, who could guide Ginnem to the Farplane. The wound was too deep. Even if Lulu got Ginnem to the outpost, it would be too late. Both of them knew that. Lulu pressed her sleeve against Ginnem’s stomach, hoping against hope that she could stop the bleeding. “Lulu.” Ginnem’s voice broke though Lulu’s scattered thoughts, weak and tired. “It’s alright.”

Final Fantasy Kiss Battle: Kain/Edge, spark.

Kain frowned at the pile of strange wood from a slain Trap Door; it refused to take a spark.

“Put this here,” Edge said as he rearranged the wood pile slightly. “Then—"

“Don’t,” Kain interrupted, pushing the wood back into position. He winced suddenly and yanked his hand back, a sharp splinter deeply buried in his palm.

Unexpectedly, Edge grabbed Kain’s hand, then, before Kain could protest, Edge brought Kain’s hand to his mouth. Kain felt the graze of teeth, then the soft press of lips in a kiss against his palm.

Beside them, the wood sparked into flames.
