Mhom Ped Sawan - episode 18

As soon as Princess Vilas learns that Mhom Kham is unwell, the girls are released from prison.

Jenaphibal is also freed and set to work tracking down the illicit opium trading.

That went much smoother than I imagined tbh 😅

He's still trying to marry Mhom Kham though, sending her another gift that she promptly gives to Mhom Sut.

Khwan is back 🙌🙌

They are hoping to go back to the palace to seek refuge from the smallpox still plaguing the city but daddy Thongkam remains reluctant to take Khwan to court.

Kaew's new husband makes plans to have Jenaphibal killed for interfering with his opium business. To my surprise, Kaew actually tries to talk him out of it but I suspect he's still going to go ahead with the attempt anyway.

A noble turns up and basically tells the dancing troupe that they should return to the palace. Thongkam has to put his best customer service face on to accept the proposal.

The noble also takes a good look at Khwan while he's there 👀

You snooze you lose Prajong!

Jenaphibal is also showing an interest, for a few seconds there he seems to have forgotten his wife goals 😆

(I see now why Thongkam wants to Rapunzel Khwan 😂)

Mhom Ped Sawan - Episode 17

Mhom Kham is still fretting over her dream about her father being stricken with the pox. To be fair to her, dreams are often considered prophetic in traditional Thai beliefs

The palace is under Lock Down and no one is allowed in or out but Mhom Sut promises to find a way to help Kham.

As predicted, they are sneaking out of the palace but at least Kham took Sut with her.

And they immediately run into Jenaphibal who is all wtf girls until Kham pleads her case and then he is clearly thinking -

But alas, they are too late and Kham's dream turned out to be real. They return to the opium bandit infested woods to find a monk already cremating daddy Kham 😭

Ouch! That's rough for poor Kham!

Meanwhile in the palace, princess Vilas is not happy to learn that Kham and Sut have broken the rules and Sawan is sick of being the bearer of bad news.

She just wants her princess to call her a good girl ok!

The party returns to find guards waiting for them

Jenaphibal is thrown into jail and Kham and Sut are flogged by a distraught Ying before being thrown into prison themselves as per the punishment for breaking the rules.

Mhom Kham is not doing well, is it a heartbreak illness situation or has she caught the pox?

Sut does her best to comfort her through the bars of their jail 🥺

Mhom Ped Sawan - episode 13

We start the story with Mhom Jiu giving birth to her baby.

Prince Sangkh is very happy, let's linger on that here because it won't last.

Princess Vilas is also swanning around looking very happy with her girlfriend/poet Suwan.

Unfortunately prince Sangkh falls ill again and Mhom Jiu even goes to a monk for blessings but it's no good.

The prince dies, possibly of malaria?

Everyone is very sad.

The physician, Jenaphibal, this guy in green.

Actually, I included him because he is Dis Bunnag and I was excited at his appearance as I also used him in my ManSuang story When The Nightingale Sings.

The Bunnag family were hugely influential at court for most of the early part of the Rattanankosin era with several members of their clan being married into the royal Chatri family.

Princess Vilas and Mhom Jiu are very sad, as are Suwan and Mhom Sut.

Even Mhom Kham has a cry when the news reaches her in her opium bandit infested woods.

Everyone is in mourning, everyone is going to have to wear white again for months!

But do you know who doesn't seem sad?

Mhom Kaew actually looks very cat that got the cream at the news despite prince Sangkh basically being her husband... although I guess they were pretty much ex's at this point but still, he's not even cold yet and she's one glowering close up away from being a fully fledged lakorn villain, monologuing at the camera.

Happy to report that Ueng gets smacked in the face at one point. Nobody is in the mood for her bullshit while they are mourning the prince.

Despite it all, the episode ends on a lighter note as Mhom Kham and Mhom Sut are finally reunited and not just in their dreams!

I assume Mhom Kham has returned to pay her respects to Prince Sangkh.

Mhom Ped Sawan - episode 6

Mhom Kham is making desserts to sell at the market

Referenced in a poem by King Rama the second.

Meanwhile poor Mhom Sut is so sad about Mhom Kham leaving that she can't even write poetry (gasp!)

And she starts hallucinating that Mhom Kham is still with her which is gold star lesbian behaviour.

Jenaphibal is also bummed out that Mhom Kham is gone and he instructs Prajong to keep an eye on her but then he also does this ⬇️

And..

He knows Prajong has a thing for him so frankly this feels mean, especially as he is still thinking about Mhom Kham

But the highlight of the episode is these two

Princess Vilas and poet Sawan being all flirty with each other

Sawan reads poetry to the princess and once again I curse the lack of subtitles because I just know that shit is beautiful...and horny! 😆

In other news Ueng is still causing trouble and pursuing an uninterested Prik.

Khwan is still missing 😭😭

Drama: Mhom Ped Sawan

Mhom Ped Sawan - Episode 1

Unfortunately, there are no English subtitles for the drama yet but that's not going to stop me watching. 😅

Mhom Kham (Tubtim Anyarin) and Mhom Sut (Film Cherlisa) are both consorts to the Prince of The Front Palace.

This is a practice Thailand used to have where they would technically have two kings. The main one and the "The Front Palace," king, usually a brother or son of the main king. Sometimes translated as a Viceroy. They were the most powerful person after the main king.

The story seems to start with both Mhom Kham and Mhom Sut entering the palace to serve the king and then there is a little montage of their growing friendship.

Mhom Kham ends up being given the job of head cook, preparing food for the Prince, his Official / First wife Princess Darawadi and their son.

This gives her a privileged position that I suspect some of the other consorts envy. (In this time it was common for men, especially royalty to have many "wives." King Rama the 3rd, the "main king," ruling in this time had 51 children from a whole harem of consorts!)

The ladies in pink and yellow instantly clock how close our two protagonists seem and so you can consider them the likely thieves of lesbian joy.

The Prince of the Front Palace has died, his wife is sad, the consorts are sad, everyone has to wear white.

With no subs, I can only make an educated guess but it seems like the two mean consorts really have it out for Mhom Kham.

As an aside, I am already in love with Mhom Sut. I mean - look at her 😍

Then we cut to a dance show being performed outdoors, which seems to be a performance of Kaeo the Horse-Faced Girl, a famous Thai tale and Prajong (Max) turns up to spoil the party, managing to bump into Khwan (Kaownah) like this ⬇️

Which has the audience and me like this 😏

I think he's telling them off because they shouldn't be performing a dance when the Front Palace Prince has died but they didn't know he had died and Khwan's dad (played by Phraya Bodisorn of ManSuang) seems really shocked and sad about it.

Khwan is ready to fight Prajong for being mean to his dad though but there are already vibes between them although Prajong and his bro laughed at Khwan for his cute outfit which was a dick move, we can all see that you like it really Prajong!

Khwan is feisty though and really cute in his dance so I hope they give us plenty more dance scenes 🙏

The rest is Princess Darawadi probably telling her son that he is the man of the house now.

I suspect the consorts might be sent away, perhaps to serve other families but without the subs I am only guessing.

Hopefully they won't make us wait too long before they add some, I did read they were planning to include subs but there is often a delay with Thai dramas so all I can do is wait and hope that they eventually appear.

Mhom Ped Sawan - episode 23

I thought this storyline might take a few episodes but apparently we are jumping straight to the exposure of Im and Suriyaphakdi's affair.

And by affair, I mean they sent each other a couple of love poems but that is enough to land you accused of treason.

And who is behind this revelation? obviously Kaew and her bitchy maid. She is keen to bring down Suriyaphakdi because he is part of the police task force raiding all the opium dens.

Guards come to drag Im and Suriyaphakdi away for an immediate trial.

Suwan is very sad about this because her sister is actually married to Suriyaphakdi (in this time, men could have multiple wives so he already had several!)

Princess Vilas sends her to stay with her sister but then has Mhom Sut come read poetry to her instead and...um...I think Kham and Suwan should be concerned! 😆

Im, the King's concubine, is asked to explain herself and surprising everyone there she does not try to refute the charge (and their love) and instead willingly offers up her life.

Suriyaphakdi also asks to be punished alongside her (not sure how historically accurate this bit is but it's certainly true that they were executed for writing those poems to each other.)

Im turns to Suriyaphakdi and basically asks -

This love (of ours) is the cause of both our deaths. Do you regret it?

To which he replies -

Never. If we can't be together in this life, let's find each other our next lives.

I am not unmoved 🥲

Suriyaphakdi makes an emotional farewell to Jenaphibal and his other police buddies before they walk to their execution.

Sad to lose them so soon.

Jenaphibal then takes Mhom Kham aside and waxes lyrical about the perils of transgressive love (unsubtle) before he then makes a nuisance of himself with those unwanted attentions.

Thankfully he is interrupted by Prik and her boyfriend.

This doesn't make up for abandoning Pan in the previous episode Prik but at least it's something!

Other events:

Looks like Dr Dan Beach Bradley is confident he has an effective smallpox vaccine.

Neam (senior of the palace girl gang) is having nightmares that Ueng has returned as a vengeful ghost.

I mean, I wouldn't put it past Ueng but surely she would still be harassing Prik if her resentful spirit was still mooching around 😅

No Khwan or dancing in this episode 👎 but the preview for tomorrow shows a long awaited reunion with Prajong 🥹

Mhom Ped Sawan - Episode 2

The thieves of lesbian joy are still at it, trying to screw Mhom Kham over every chance they get.

But Mhom Kham is not taking it lying down 🔪

Princess Darawadi is still holding it together as the mourning rituals for her husband continue

Khwan continues to be adorable 🥹

Here he is basically saying "if you're going to talk shit about me do it to my face na!"

Obviously Prajong is charmed by this, who wouldn't be?

We get quite a few dance practice scenes, which pleases me greatly 😌

And then, an amazing almost four minute scene of the dance troupe performing a scene from Sang Thong (which I've talked about just a couple of times before as we see that dance showcased in ManSuang too 😅)

Khwan is playing Rochana, the love interest of Sang Thong, shown with his iconic mask here. The drama was reworked by King Rama the 2nd so it's believed to have been very popular in this time period which is only a little later as King Rama the 3rd is now reigning.

You can see the piphat orchestra as well as the dancers and the group of people who have shown up to participate in the mourning rites for the Front Palace Prince.

These were very elaborate and go on a long time, a year or more in the case of royalty.

Mhom Ped Sawan - episode 14

Mhom Kham is happily reunited with Mhom Sut.

She's also brought Mae Pan to the royal palace so now she and Mhom Sut basically have a daughter.

Mhom Kaew shows up at the Prince's funeral to stir up shit and continue her homophobic agenda but Princess Vilas is having none of it and sends her away.

Considering this is Princess Vilas with her favourite poet almost every hour of the day, you would think Mhom Kaew would realise that she is on the wrong side of opinions.

She still tries to come for Mhom Sut and Mhom Kham but Mhom Sut is having none of it.

And a fight ensues!

Mhom Kaew slinks back to the house she is now staying in..

She has pawned all her jewellery and is feeling sorry for herself.

But her maidservant points out that she still has her looks so there's nothing to stop her becoming someone else's second wife. Probably not a prince but at least some wealthy older noble 😅

Then we see the woman she is staying with who I think is taking advantage of Mhom Kaew but honestly, she's so nasty I have no sympathy.

Ueng (yes, I know I spell her name differently every time 😆) continues to stalk Prik who is very worried when she hears Man has been injured.

She deserves another slap, seriously!

A farang has entered the plot.

This guy is a famous historical figure, Dr Dan Beach Bradley, he becomes very close to King Mongkut. I mention him briefly in When The Nightingale Sings so again, I was excited to see him appear.

Clown of the episode is undoubtedly Prajong who tells Jenaphibal (his situationship) that he does not have any feelings for my baby boy Khwan.

Excuse me?

How could you treat my boy this way you heartless cretin! 😤

Number one shipper Saeng will be devastated!

I think he also confesses his feelings to Jenaphibal or at least, it is alluded to because Jenaphibal looks a bit contrite after their chat even though he is still obsessed with trying to wife up the uninterested lesbian.

Mhom Kham is enjoying being back in the royal kitchens with her favourite helper ❤️

Mhom Ped Sawan - episode 7

Mhom Sut remains deep in the throws of lesbian despair

She cannot compose poetry, she just gazes out into space and remembers being with Mhom Kham 💔

Sawan tells her - "if we can't get rid of someone in our hearts, it's better to keep them in our hearts than continue living without them."

She UNDERSTANDS

Mhom Kham is staying with her father in a village that appears to be crawling with opium bandits...

Things are not ok!

Man gives Prik a bracelet at the market which makes Ueng lose her goddam mind and assault Prik while trying to pull it off - somebody needs to chuck a bowl of cold water over that girl like yesterday!

Ueng is cosying up to Mhom Sut, I do not trust this...

Meanwhile I suspect that Jenaphibal has sent Prajong to ask Mhom Kham"s father's permission to court her or something to that effect..

Poor Prajong can't catch a break.

Princess Vilas tells Sawan to ask Mhom Sut to read her a poem (instead of Sawan.)

Sawan is not taking it well.

It has been too long since I saw my favourite boy 😭
