the amount of wealthy asians in my notes saying "this is dumb as fuck you're insane this doesn't apply to me my family is Malaysian / Indian / whatever and we have lived all over the world travelling for work and we are always expats wherever we live and I am very well travelled and you don't know what you're talking about this is US centric" you and your family aren't travelling and working as maids and labourers though are they? they aren't living in dubai as labourers working 16 hours a day and living in shanties 12 ppl to a room with their passports stolen from them yeah? they're working cushy white collar jobs for some company and living in serviced apartments that get cleaned by people from their own countries who are definitely not called Expats yeah? the indonesian lady in a tudung cleaning your rental flat in Riyadh isn't called an expat is she? she's called a migrant worker. but she's only there temporarily to work, just like you. huh I wonder what the difference is? the Filipino lady who cleans your house in Malaysia isn't called an expat is she? the only thing separating you from her is your Class status, and it blinds you to your privilege. are you fucking stupid or are you going to actually think about what i'm saying
#its amazing you can have all the money and education and still be an idiot#who refuses to read the words in front of their face

redacted filipino hcs & thoughts! lol
mostly about shaw pack + vamps + guy&honey
inpsired by @erial-c nahiya akong itag ka pero hiiii po
the trivia and translations are probably not accurate 🧍♀️please forgive my very scattered brain thoughts
darlin probably does arnis. it's why they fight like a menace 😈 sam has never known peace since he's seen em wield an ital
arnis - a ph martial art
itak - a bolo sword(?)
asher doesn't call milo "tol" bc he's not tall /j
"tol" is like the equivalent of "dude" as in a way of calling your friend
lovely & darlin would probably call vincent & sam their asawang (gets niyo ba asawa + aswang)
asawa means spouse or wife or husband
aswang is a ph mythological creature. different sources tell different things but what is mostly agreed upon is that (1) they're nocturnal (2) they usually pretend to be humans in the day time if not (3) they hide in the woods (4) they prey on children, pregnant women (specifically for their unborn child), and maybe new borns. they often get lumped with vampires though i'm not too sure how accurate that is.
aspins have a very special place in darlin's heart. sam's cabin in the woods usually have attract lots of them and they never had the heart to turn them away. in a way too, they know what it's like to being wild, dirty, street dog.
aspin - a dog breed in the ph that is sort of a mix of other breeds. they often get a bad rep for being street dogs and not having a particular breed.
vincent n his cars get featured a lot in those carspotting around manila tiktoks. whenever lovely finds em they make sure to send those to vincent lol
(this is me also hoping that vincent gets to keep at least few of them when they leave the house of solaire)
not entirely sure how the entire mate thing would translate into ph culture but even with all that david & asher would insist on doing things properly before marriage - they would mamanhikan to their partner's parents respectively hehehe
mamanhikan or pamamanhikan is a like a traditional practice of going to the fiancee's family's house and asking for their hand in marriage lol.
whenever they drive down shaw boulevard, the pack would turn to david and go "taga dito ka di ba?" or something to that effect HAHAHAHHA
"taga-dito ka 'di ba?" = "you're from (around) here, right?"
angel know it's general cleaning morning whenever david is blasting opm songs or old timey songs around their house.
asher would take panliligaw very seriously!!!!! magpapaalam sa magulang lagi ni baabe paglalabas sila!!! aabangan niya after work si baabe tapos "sabay na raw sila umuwi" galawan mo asher talbot !!!! dyan ka magaling !!!! and ofc it never stopped kahit naging sila na ni baabe :)))
panliligaw or ligaw is a more traditional pre-dating courting stage in a relationship. lol
marie has definitely said to david & asher & milo & darlin at some point na "kakaselpon niyo yan". it doesn't matter that they're adults.
"kakaselpon niyo yan" = "it's because of that (damn) phone"
this one is a bit more in general: vampire houses have THE filipino family drama. territory/progeny disputes? grudges? backstabbing? been there done that.
speaking of vamps: pre-turning, sam was once an altar boy (darlin: hahaha samkristan)
speaking of sam (again): pre-turning, he has a picture in baguio, riding a horse & wearing a cowboy hat. when darlin found it they couldn't stop staring at it for a loong while.
sweetheart LOVES singing. marie loves having them over for karaoke.
marie would drag milo's ahh every night for simbang gabi.
simbang gabi - mass service for the nine nights leading up to christmas eve.
guy's filipino nickname would be "totoy"
"totoy" is another way of refering to a younger male. addtionally, it's also often used as a euphism for a dick HAHAJAHA
guy definitely has a tiktok acct tapos don siya nagpaparinig kay honey HAHAHAHA lagi niyang kinakanta "crush" by tweens of pop
guy always does those cheesy, poetry pick up line jokes to honey like:
"cheese, cheese, cheese. gusto kita i-keese (read: kiss)"
"mga 6 out of 10. medyo pilit yung rhyme"
"honey naman 😭😓"
translation:
"cheese, cheese, cheese. i want to give you a k-eese."
"a 6 out of 10. the rhyming was a bit forced."
"honey, c'mon 😭😓."
guy and honey are definitely oa x nonchalant pairings but may i also suggest na they are jeje x pogi typings. they both definitely have kanal humor though HAHAHA
- after returning to the pack, darlin couldnt help but cry tear up after marie called them "anak" again
anak = child
#lol that's all about i got#i am going insane#i was buzzing in my seat whenever i think about these lol#alam niyo din bang co-writer si william ng noli me HAHAHAHAHA CHAROT#redacted audio#redactedverse#redacted milo#redacted sam#redacted sweetheart#redacted darlin#redacted asher#redacted david#redacted angel#redacted vampires#redacted vincent#redacted lovely#redacted babe#if you saw me post this before no you didnt#redacted headcanons#the pinnacle of filipino humor are actually just puns

wedding planner au first family holiday 💕
AHHH this sounds so cute. I decided to go with the first family Christmas after Kerri is adopted for this one. Also I didn't mean for this to be 1.3k words lmao See this post for some references mentioned in this fic!
"Why does your room look like a tornado went through it?" Sasha asked as she hovered in the doorway of her daughter's bedroom.
Kerri usually kept her bedroom fairly clean, but it seemed that half of her closet was scattered on the floor. Even though they were about to leave to spend Christmas Day with Anetra's family soon.
"Because I have nothing to wear." Kerri came into view as she plopped on her bed, on top of the clothes and hangers. "What am I supposed to wear to these things?" she sighed as she slumped against her headboard.
“What do you usually wear for holidays?” Sasha asked as she carefully found a place to sit on the long storage ottoman.
“Before or after the foster house?” Kerri asked as she rolled her eyes. “Either way, I’m not wearing my old church suit.”
“I know, Kare-Bear,” Sasha said with a sympathetic smile. She started using the nickname before the adoption was finalized, which Kerri liked hearing. “So what were you thinking?” She asked, looking at the scattered clothing.
“No idea.” Kerri pursed her lips as she looked at her clothes. “What are you and Anetra wearing? I don’t want to stick out too much.”
Sasha looked down at her cream sweater and bootcut jeans, “Probably this, maybe some mascara and lipstick before we head out.” she shrugged.
“So you don’t dress up nice or anything?” Kerri asked.
“My dad's side of the family never dresses up for anything, besides a wedding or a funeral.” Both looked to see Anetra leaning against the door frame. “And they already love you, even though you haven’t even met most of of them yet.”
Anetra picked through the clothes on the floor, before finding a gold sweater with small white cats all over. “What about this one? Although I don’t remember seeing it before.” She held it up for Kerri to see.
“That’s because it’s Jasmine’s. She left here two weeks ago and hasn’t noticed yet.” she pointed out.
That gave Sasha an idea, “You should wear it tonight, maybe it will help you feel more comfortable.” she offered.
She watched Kerri’s face as she thought, “Maybe I could wear that, I know it’ll fit me.”
“We’ll go get the car ready and meet you downstairs soon.” Sasha gently squezzed Kerri’s knee efore leaving the bedroom with Anetra.
"We've been here for over an hour, and you still haven't left this chair," Sasha told Kerri after finding a moment in between talking with family to sneak off. "And getting up for the bathroom doesn't count."
Kerri frowned in response, "It's just really different from other family Christmases, I guess." she shrugged as she looked around.
"In what way?" Sasha asked.
"Usually it's church service, then I watch my siblings and cousins since I was the oldest, then we go home," Kerri explained, looking out the window to a group of cousins playing outside. The group was bigger than what she was used to, and a wide variety of ages.
"That sounds more like work for you than fun." Sasha pointed out, and Kerri thought for a moment, before nodding in agreement.
"Don't let us loud Filipinos scare you off." Anetra appeared on Kerri's other side. She was holding a blue bundle of blankets that Sasha had last seen in her arms.
"How long have you been holding your cousin's baby for?" Sasha playfully asked her. She had a feeling Anetra may have had baby fever when she was excited to meet the newborn a few weeks before.
"She hasn't asked for him back yet," Anetra said in mock defense, "And he's wearing the onesie we got him too!" she showed Sasha and Kerri.
Sasha playfully rolled her eyes before turning her attention back to her daughter, "I think the kids are going to have hot chocolate and watch Home Alone in a bit."
"You're probably bored of listening to your aunties gossiping about their soap operas too," Anetra added in a low voice, glancing at the group of older women sitting across the room.
Kerri tried to stifle her laughter as Sasha tried to lead her to the kitchen, "C'mon, you can be on whipped cream and sprinkles duty."
A couple hours later as the night was drawing to a close, Sasha watched more family members say their goodbyes and leave to go home. Even Anetra started looking more tired as she tried to hold a conversation with her grandmother.
She started gathering her family's belongings and new gifts as Anetra began to notice and start to help. Once everything was in the car, Sasha found the remainder of the younger cousins watching Home Alone 2 in the den of the house. She smiled to herself as she saw Kerri sitting in between two female cousins around her age., quietly chatting.
She waved Kerri over to the doorway, and before she could say anything, Kerri spoke first, "Is it okay if I spend the night?" she asked. Sasha knew that the younger cousins and grandkids that lived closer liked to spend Christmas night at their grandparent's house. She would have never guessed Kerri would want to stay as well, especially for her Christmas in the family.
"Oh, I guess you could," Sasha said, trying to hide her surprise. "Do you have everything you need? We can bring you something from home if you want." she offered.
"I don't think so, I think I have everything I need here." Kerri beamed before hugging Sasha goodbye, "Thank you."
Sasha wrapped her arms around her daughter, "If you need anything, just let me or Netra know, okay? Just call us and we'll be right here. Love you, Kare-Bear." she smiled as she let go.
"I know, I love you too."
"At least we can have a nice drink tonight," Anetra said as Sasha settled next to her on their living room couch, passing her a small glass of eggnog.
Sasha took a sip of her drink before finding a coaster on the table. "I'm still worried about Kerri, what if something happens?"
"She'll be fine, she's in great hands," Anetra said as she scrolled through the holiday movie selection on Netflix. "She knows that we'll answer the phone no matter what time at night."
"I know, I'm just hoping this is a step in the right direction and her cousins don't just make her watch the little kids," Sasha said.
"They wouldn't do that, that's more of a white people thing," Anetra joked. "She's going to love it. I wish I had that option instead of going to boring Mormon church all day on Christmas when I grew up."
"Sounds better than no celebrating anything at all," Sasha said matter-of-factly.
"Good point. Wanna watch A Christmas Prince?"
"Of course I do, we watch it every year." Sasha laughed as the movie started playing, pulling Anetra closer to her by the waist.
They quietly watched the movie, and let the autoplay start the next movie. As the beginning scenes played, Anetra spoke up as she took the last sip of her drink, "Hey Sasha?"
"Yes, sweetheart?" Sasha responded as she looked away from the screen.
"I want another one," Anetra said out loud as she turned down the volume of the TV. She continued to stare into her empty glass.
"Another what? Do you want another drink?" Sasha guessed.
Anetra sat up and looked at her wife, "No, I want another kid." she said. "I've been thinking a lot, and I really want us to be parents again," she said in sincerity, holding Sasha's hand.
Sasha nodded, understanding where Anetra's baby fever was coming from for the last few months, "I want to see our family grow too." she smiled. "I can try to call that social worker to see what kids we can adopt, or we can look into other options soon, too."
"I want to try carrying a baby." Anetra said, "I know we'll probably have to find a sperm donor and go to a lot of doctors, but I want to try to get pregnant."
"Then that's what we'll do after New Year," Sasha said as she gently kissed Anetra's cheek. "Even though holidays with a newborn sounds like hell."
"I think it'll be a Christmas to remember."

Art assistance = caregiving

I dont know why but i was thinking alot about care giving
I have. New art asisstance job and this time its more one on one than a big production like Lenny.
And i was thinking about how i am doing more than making the rat. I keep them company, we have meaningful conversationss and i am having real genuine human nnections
I approach everything with gentleness, compassion nd kindness. And I extend that to the artist i work for
I problem solve. I organize, i clean, i create, i make, i create a safe environment where they trust me. I am honest with my work, and i work hard
-
I love making the work, the craftsmanship, skillsets and the act of making art.
I love being a part of the process. I love how my hands is a part of the creation.
I love being a part of something important and creating culture and history.
—
I think alot about how most Filipinos are nurses. I think its our innate nature of being care giver. We are motherly and hospitable. We care an we give comfort. It’s natural to us and it comes out in everything we do.
Obviously i dont save lives, but i am also a healer and a natural helper.
I think about my mom as. Nanny/caregiver. I think about the women in my life who does this on a daily
We used to have our own nanny in the Philippines but in America she has to become one in order to survive.
I never really had shame thats he had to do that i understood that she had to do what she had to do. Also she never bowed shame in what’s he is doing, ive always seen her proud as to what she is doing. She runs the house. Without her they would not function.
I think about how she sacrificed and abandoned her own children and had to take care of other peoples children in order to have the aMercian dream. We never got out of that loophole. She never came home. I guess as a little girl i was waiting for the day when she would come home an tend to us instead but that never happened. I guess thats the reality of an American dream.
I think about how i m in their place now. I would always joke about how i would just nanny too to get many bc he earns alot. And she would always be like, dont because the reason why i brought u here so that you can have a better future and have a professional job.
And nw i see held doing what she is doing. I dont know why i am so convinced that art assitance is care giving, but it sure feels that way. That kiss hw much i put into othe job. I’m really serious into what i am doing and i really care about the people i work with. I go above and beyond.
I think my approach to the job is never just art making, I also build a relationship with these people and really try to change their lives- maybe through doing the work or through organization etc
I fin it so interesting how i never reallly had this epiphany before till now. But i feel so strongly about it. I feel so connected ot that word.
——
I really are about the job.
I could be doing their things but i am doing this.
It’s hard its not permanent and not stable
Sometimes i jump from me job to another just to make ends meet.
Alto of times i also end up with no jobs because one freelance job ended.
But I continue to pursue this type of work because i think i do well in it and i see how much i can touch peoples lives through it
I work well one on one. I work well alone and also in teams but i work well with thing i am passionate about I have to care about wat i am doing for me to put effort in it.
I take pride in what i do. I am proud that i made it here. I made this for myself. Got myself here by connecting with artists and being determined and offering my help and services.
I’m proud because i give my all and i found my niche. I know this is probably not gonna be forever but i know that this is a meaningful part of my life.
I also listen to th universe there must be a reason why i keep getting these types of jobs.
—-
But yea that’s all.
I’m proud of myself because I am chasing my dream. I am pursuing my passion and I am doing the bet i can it’s what i got.
Not a lot of people can go this route, but i did and i am doing well for myself. The fact that i was able to get so many opportunities on my own is insane. That is something to be proud of.
I’m proud of myself for following my heart and what I think is the best for me. For doing hat makes me happy. And ffor being so hard working and putting my heart into what i do.

People Pleaser
I never fought with my mother. Most girls do; probably starts when they are teenagers and lasts until one of them grows up. I would hope it stops after 30s where you see each other as adults. I never experienced it, I fought with my dad (always lost, and his tactic was stonewalling; very effective), fought with my siblings, even some friends, definitely ex-boyfriends. I was 12 when my mom died and even though I was a kid and even though she got mad, for numerous things. Like the house not being clean, us being annoying, being late to school, watching too much TV. If she said I was wrong I always accepted being wrong.
I never felt grown enough to have an ego to say, “hey mom, you’re wrong”. Which I would assume is why girls fight with their mothers in the first place. The result of never fighting nor growing up with her, I never had to live my entire life after her death resenting her. She never took away my freedom, or shattered my dreams, I was too young to do anything so I never had her being overly protective to the point I would regress.
Being half Polish American and half first generation Filipino, my culture was segregated and confusing. My family accepted each other, loved each other from a distance, but they never understood each other. I don’t even think my parents even got each other fully. Love and compatibility are super different. My dad came from a family who didn’t show much emotion. A typical American household where after you’re 18, you tend to see each other on Holidays and sometimes birthdays. There weren’t things in his house like hugging or kissing. He began that after my mom died and doing therapy. There was a lot of prayer though, my father had 3 siblings, not much change occurred frequently. My grandmother on his side still currently lives in the house they grew up in.
My mother came from a family where even though you fought, you’d probably be living in the same house with each other. Family is loyal no matter what, they spend a lot of time together, at one point there was 10 of us living in the house in Jersey. Her mother who I called Mommy Leonie, took care of all of us kids as her own. Lots of kisses, food, singing, dancing, hugs, and simple days of watching tv together and playing outside. Family was celebrated on weekends where we had Filipino parties. Sense of community was super strong and huge. She had so many friends from all over. She immigrated a lot of her family to NJ. It was difficult that half of the family was on the other side of the world and the other half was here.
My Filipino side overpowered my Polish side being that my mom came to America in her 30’s. Even though my sister and I look white, we feel Filipino and American. People will always think we’re Spanish or Italian, mainly something we’re not. We would visit the Philippines whenever we could. Eat rice every day. Make some Filipino friends, my mom had a group of friends who had white husbands, and our values were similar. I appreciate my culture. I wouldn’t be who I am if it weren’t for it. Specifically, you learn to be very clean, educated, you really respect your elders. You learn to put people especially family first. All my siblings brought me everywhere with them, even if they didn’t want to.
Since going to therapy, I learned a lot of the things that I would get praised for doing, kind of hindered my life as an adult. I come from a customer service background. Although I’m an artist I never did well in a lot of jobs. A lot of the demands of full-time jobs gave me anxiety. I know I could never do anything medical, I tried working in a office and it wasn’t for me I would try again but am unsure if it fits my personality. Connecting and helping people has been part of my calling instead and I think I learned it from my family’s culture.
Although our culture is diverse with music, community, dance, Food, and not to mention the most beautiful islands in the world. We are also hospitable people. I grew up traveling all over the world staying at my mom’s friends’ places. Including Japan, Canada, Germany, and I learned when I have people stay at my house to give up my bed, have food ready, and to clear my schedule to entertain them. I never learned an important thing though called boundaries until a year ago.
I finally learned how to say no at an old age, as well as not lie, gossip, or over exaggerate, as well as eat healthier. When I was younger witnessing my mother’s anger and how she would argue with people; I devoted a lot of mental energy to never argue. Was actually crazy afraid of it. I just acted like my dad and became quiet, or would say yes, or show no reaction. Try my best to not get stressed because it can eventually cause illness and kill you. If I had partners where we were consistently fighting, I knew this needed to end soon. I have to end this some way somehow. Being such a people pleaser and afraid of breaking up, I would do something crazy like move to LA. There’s a lack of consciousness with this kind of behavior and I believe it’s passed down generation to generation.
There are tools out there especially for people who grew up in Asian households. A normal Slovakian thing to do I noticed was men bottled a lot of things up and out of nowhere explode in anger. It’s so weird because the silence was there for so long and then you can see how they feel all at once in anger, then act like nothing happened. My dad would do this constantly as a child and would leave; 5-10 minutes later he would come back to my room and apologize, where I would never take the anger too seriously. If I talk about it to anyone who’s Polish or Slovakian, they know exactly what I’m talking about.
I’m very lucky to have a father who loves me no matter what. I’m an artist, not married, no kids. He is okay with it as long as I’m happy and self-sufficient. I’ve been paying my own bills since 21 without help and I have independence to the point that I call my father just because I want to, not because I need him. If I ever needed him financially, he developed boundaries and would say no. Especially when I was taking a lot of risks when I was younger, he would say, “you can figure it out”. If I ever needed him emotionally, he would be there sometimes. He has taught me to put myself first and I appreciate that. He prioritizes helping people like my sister and grandmother which is really important to our family.
My mom did too. My mom was highly independent with her own business and would travel to the Philippines without my father a couple months out of the year to not be around for the winter. Which is exactly where I get it from. It’s not that we want to punish our significant others, just we want to be in the hot, where everything’s cheaper, with family especially during the cold winters where the nature of our chosen business doesn’t make much money. What’s the point of sticking around if you get sick, don’t make much money, and don’t want to go outside. Might as well get pampered in good weather and spend time with family.
I learned how to be a minimalist living in New York and also because both of my parents were hoarders. After my mom passed away, we had two houses filled with her stuff to get rid of. I would go through every item with tears feeling like this was the end of her. She kept everything to exercise equipment, VHS’s, to her school uniform from 8th grade. Designer bags, clothes, and shoes. I always say I could live out of a suitcase if I wanted to. The only things I want to keep are my pictures and instruments. The rest don’t mean a thing. Being a minimalist helps if you travel, move a lot, or live with your partner to be honest.
There’s so much de-conditioning I have to do in order to achieve a really great life in my future. I think if I master all the work now, I can really have an incredible decade in my 40’s. The need to take care of people has to stop. I always go out of my way to do that and it makes me uncomfortable a lot of the time and sometimes I make people uncomfortable by overly extending myself to make them happy. Doesn’t help that I work in a field where I get paid to do just that.
Sometimes it’s nice and it’s good to do but pick and choose who’s worthy of it. Being a yes person needs to stop. If you give your energy all away, how will you have any for yourself. I say I want to be the person who can say no, without an excuse. Stop believing that the only way to success is through my job. Just the fact that my jobs allow me to be creative, pay all my bills, and doesn’t feel like torture. I feel like I hit the jackpot.
That buying a house, having kids, and getting married makes you successful. I mean right now I feel successful because I don’t fight with my boyfriend, we have a great relationship, and we’re both going after our dreams. I need to learn to create a bubble (imaginary bubble) so I don’t take other people’s energies and moods as my own. I also have held back a lot of feelings so I don’t “fight” with people; but I learned that I’m a “fearful avoidant person”. I learned I can say how I feel without yelling. I can just say it, I can talk, and I can use my words.
When you realize you are in fact traumatized. That you have been living this way your entire life (by default) and there’s definitely a better way to interact with the world. Life does get easier. I mean it’s not perfect. Stressors of life happen that you just can’t control but reading about stoicism can change the way we think about it. The most important thing is how you respond to everything. To be a calm cool collective person that you naturally are. Knowing everything is going to be okay is half the battle. Everything else will fall into place. Even though I have trauma, like all humans do, I actively am trying to break cycles, and live the life I deserve. Maybe people who feel the same can feel empowered to do the same.
The steps it takes to stop people pleasing I learned it to first really think about do I want to do it or do I just want to so yes because I feel like I have to. Then, if you’re like me and want to do everything but physically can’t. Start prioritizing what you would regret missing. We are always sacrificing something. No choice is wrong, only if you truly feel like it is. I don’t want to feel like I have to pay for everything anymore. I can never be in two places at once and pick the place I would regret not being at the most. I look if I can financially afford doing this right now. The most important thing is that I’m mentally and physically happy and healthy. My boyfriend and I work a lot, him even more than me. We’re tired. I want to create. At the end of the day, if I can help it, I just want to spend time recharging myself or dating him. It’s hard, it’s a forever journey, but it’s important. Especially taking other people’s energy as your own. I learned that wearing a turquoise stone has been protecting me from that.

Kind of sad to hear that out of 10 families, the pack houses for maybe 2 of them will buy then lunch. We got them Filipino food as they had never had any. They loved it from what they were saying, and then we also got them Starbucks two hours before the end of packing.
So they claim they will be back tomorrow and will bring one more person with them. So the plan is to get Vietnamese food tomorrow for lunch.
But anyways, they claim they will be finished and putting the boxes up in crates Friday. We will see! This weekend I'll have to dedicate to yard work and allow my wife to collect trash in the garage so Monday we can rent a truck to hual trash away. Tuesday we have the chimney inspection, Wednesday we have the cleaning services and carpet cleaning coming so Thursday next week we officially move out of this house and have Friday to rest before Saturday heading to the airport early in the morning to begin our trip to the Philippines!
