Lavender Magic: Uses, Tips
Lavender is one of those plants that just about every witch has in their cabinet. This is because lavender is such a versatile plant ally to work with! I think it also says something about our modern world that we all tend to lean on an ally that gives us a bit of peace and calm energy,
What is Lavender?
Lavender, or Lavendula, is the name for a genus of plant with over 47 different species. Something you may not know is that Lavender is actually part of the mint family! I know I didn’t know that until digging into a bit of research myself. What we know as lavender is a common flowering plant with light purple flowers. It is common in many different climates, though often cultivated in more temperate climates. I can tell you that I have tried to grow lavender here in Florida, and though it grew, it never flowered. I’m sure the heat and the rain had a lot to do with it. We are a tropical climate, after all!
Lavender in Folklore
It isn’t just modern witches that love using lavender. There are many sources that say lavender has been used for hundreds of years for a multitude of reasons! It is even a flower that has been attributed to Hekate and her daughters, Circe and Medea.
Hecate, the Grecian goddess of the infernal regions, presided over magic and enchantment, and may fairly be styled the goddess, queen, and patroness of Witches and sorcerers. She was acquainted with the properties of every herb, and imparted this knowledge to her daughters Medea and Circe. To this trio of classical Witches were specially consecrated the following herbs:—The Mandrake, the Deadly Nightshade, the Common Nightshade, the Wolfs-bane, the Pontic Azalea, the Cyclamen, the Cypress, Lavender, Hyssop-leaved Mint, the Poley or Mountain Germander, the Ethiopian Pepper, the Corn Feverfew, the Cardamom, the Musk Mallow, the Oriental Sesame, the rough Smilax, the Lion’s-foot Cudweed (a love philtre), and Maidenhair, a plant particularly dear to Pluto. All these plants are, therefore, persistently sought for by Witches, who have not only the power of understanding and appreciating the value of herbs, but know also how to render harmless and innocuous plants baleful and deadly.
Medicinal Uses of Lavender
Lavender has been around for a really long time, so it is no surprise that it has been used medicinally across many cultures. Some of the more common medicinal uses of lavender include treating insomnia, anxiety, depression, and menstrual cramps. I’m sure it goes without saying, but please don’t treat yourself with herbs unless under the guidance of a medical professional. Thank you!
Lavender Magical Correspondences
In my practice, lavender’s magical correspondences and medicinal uses are very similar. I have leaned on lavender for everything from depressive episodes to good sleep and calming an anxious child. Here is a list of correspondences to get you started. Don’t forget to use your intuition and connect with lavender as a plant ally. There may be more than just this list that lavender can help you with!
promoting and attracting love
aiding poor sleep
helping with insomnia
promoting peace
calming anxiety
healing both mental and physical ailments
protection against the evil eye

Having a Wiccan S/O (Turtles x GN!Reader)
Synopsis: The boys having a nice time in with their magic-using lover.
Rating: Fluff, crack, domestic (I’m in a mood lately)
Word count: 1730
Warnings: unclear world-building coz that’s not the point.
Notes: My literature teacher will scalp me if they see this, but oh well....
Mood Song: Lo-fi for Witches (Only)
Leonardo
“Babe?”
“Yeah?”
The soft distant crackling of birch-fed flames filled the warm atmosphere with the scent of wood, mixing with the herbs and weeds, and berries and minerals on your desk.
“Could you make him stop?”
A heavy sigh split from your throat as you glanced at your boyfriend, dressed warmly in a soft woolen sweater you knit for him, in one of the tall-back armchairs near the fireplace, with a leather-bound book in his hands. But even through the thick build of that sweater you could see tension in his shoulders, you could see a slight press of his lower lip, you could see that his legs on the ottoman, were tensed up, not quite fight-ready, but far from relaxed.
“He’s not doing anything.” you retaliated, only briefly looking away from organizing your materials.
“He’s staring at me like a piece of meat.”
“Well, you are a snack, so I don’t see the issue.” you giggle to yourself, knowing that this is far from an acceptable answer.
“I’m serious!”
Another sigh, this one accompanied by a harsh roll of your eyes. You’re gonna have to stop organizing your potion materials, to go pick him up because if you did not, Leo’s gonna be grumpy all night.
“What’s your problem with him anyway?” it was a rhetorical question, the ‘why’ didn’t matter, the fact is he didn’t.
“I’m a turtle, I naturally don’t like birds of prey.”
“Pfff...” you tried not to giggle, but for real, that was a good response, “Well, I do, Leo. And he’s not just a bird, he’s my familiar.”
“Just make him stop staring at me.” one more roll of your eyes, but you decided that Fine, I’ll put him back in his cage for the night.
“Nox, come here.” you put your arm out as your immortal companion flew off the back of Leo’s chair and onto your arm, pinching slightly into your sheer sleeve.
“Hmm, perhaps I should file your nails again.” you contemplated out loud, but your train of thought was broken by a humorous snort.
“As if that will help.” you cheeky shit, you thought, as you opened your crow’s large bird cage. You didn’t like to keep him in there and he sure didn’t enjoy being cooped up in there for long periods of time. But if it’d make Leonardo more comfortable, he’d sleep in his cage for the night.
“Some day, my love, I dream you two will get along.”
This time he was the one exhaling his disagreement, possibly rolling his eyes.
“For you, petal, and only for you.”
As you shut the cage door, a smile lazily coasted your lips at his response.
That was enough for you.
Raphael
“So, lemme get this straight,” okay one more fucking time, Raph, let’s go over it one more time, “ya put this voodoo on my shell and it, what, magically recovers?”
Was he doubting your magic or your cure? Either way, shame on him, you’ve proven yourself to be a powerful magi-user way before you were even dating!
“It’s not voodoo, I’m not bringing it back from the dead, I’m not that kind of witch, and, finally, no, it does not magically recover, it helps it heal quicker and better.”
He had once more come to your place, just for the night - not unusual, by any account - but this time, once you sat down to marathon horror films, he was fidgety, constantly readjusting on the couch, and even seemed to wince every once in a while if his shell was in a specific position. After a while it’d become worrisome, so you asked.
At first he refused to divulge any information, but after some probing - more like after you threatened to read his mind, which you absolutely, under any circumstances, could not do - finally gave in and said he got hurt on patrol, and apparently, refused to tell his family as well.
So, you quickly threw together a beeswax salve, approximately enough to cover at least a forth of his shell generously, because as you knew him, there would probably be some more damage that he would not tell you about.
“Come on, Raph.” pleading was the strategy here, he could hardly refuse you anything, and apparently that anything had to be him not dying from infection, because he decided to neglect his own health, “Please, for me.” you made those big watery eyes that you knew made him putty in your hands, and it partially worked, though not all the way.
“What’s in this thing anyway?” His shoulders fell slightly from their previously defensive position, now slightly more relaxed, perhaps because he realized you’d never harm him, not intentionally anyway.
Well, this was improvement. At least he was listening now.
“It’s a pretty standard thing, you know. Some beeswax, stinging nettles for the pain, some tea tree oil, and a couple of calendula buds.” you listed off, “Oh and a prayer!”
His eyes widened back up, shoulders tensing defensively, as he pulled back from you, enough to be noticeable.
“A prayer? To Satan?”
Bitch
“Are you even familiar with what I do? Satan... Would you enjoy it if I called your Sai “toothpicks”?!” he opened his mouth to respond, not realizing you weren’t really trying, “No! You wouldn’t! I don’t pray to Satan, I pray to the Horned God and Triple Goddess. Fucking Satan.”
Alright, no more begging and pleading - force it is.
A quick tiny Latin chant, slipped out of your lips as you focused all your intent unto him.
“Hey, what’s that?” he was freaking out. Good. That’s what he gets for calling you a satanist, “Shorty, what are you sayi-nghhh..”
And he was unable to talk too.
That tiny, little, harmless paralysis spell had saved you time and time again, and it was saving you once more. Sure, he could breathe, his heart continued it’s normal function, but he could not move or speak. And yes, it must have been terrifying, but if those were the lengths you’d have to go to for him to be healthy, by golly, were you ready to go it again.
After that it was smooth sailing, you brushed the salve quickly and efficiently over the cracks of his shell, and some other ones, older scratches on it, and then *snap* you released him of his paralysis.
“That was fucked up!”
“So was calling me a satanist, but you’ll find it in you to forgive me.” after which you turned and sat back on the couch, pretending he wasn’t there, as guilt slowly settled onto your shoulders. It sure was fucked up to do that to a person, sure you’ve done it in combat but none of those fuckers were your boyfriend. Maybe you should apologize.
The couch cushions dipped next to you and Raphael’s gigantic presence invaded your peripheral view.
“Hey, shorty... uhmm” he seemed uncertain, and you were too ashamed too look him in the eye, “thank you for caring.”
You didn’t know when and how but suddenly your arms were around his neck.
“Thank you for forgiving.”
Donatello
A heated beaker bubbled excitedly somewhere in the room, a strong scent of gas and herbs mixing in the air, giving the occupants a sense of alertness, of discovery. Or it would have if you weren’t both mentally and phisically exhausted, and genuinely taking care of the most minor-consumption tasks in your to-do lists.
You were updating your grandma’s old Grimoire, where the information was either outdated or missing into a new one, that hopefully you would share with your coven one day. And Donnie was on a similar track, he had been looking over his journals, and found some gel for healing of whatever he called it, to be incorrect.
“Comet?”
“Yes, my love?”
“Do you happen to have any willow bark extract?”
You finished up the sentence you were writing and stood up to the herbal cabinet.
“Hmm, let me see...”
You shuffled through the old bound jars and flasks, beakers and boxes, until you found what you were looking for. Kind of.
“I have some freshly picked, but not an extract, no.”
“That’s fine I can extract it myself.”
You two worked in silence, for a while, and the feeling was truly peaceful. You were used to working alone but not with somebody, not only understanding of your true self, but interested in it as well.
Your own lab, as worded by Donnie himself, was far more advanced than his, and on top of that another post-patrol shouting match between his brothers had steered him away from the Lair, and to your open arms. And you had no issue sharing your space with your boyfriend, not just because you loved him, but because he was always so careful when he used your equipment, it was a joy being around him as he concocted another one of his brilliant inventions.
The silence was broken, though, by some shuffling and walking, and slamming of cabinet doors could be heard from the upper floor.
Must be around noon, you thought, yawning at the thought of having worked through the whole night and most of the day.
“Comet?”
“Hmm?”
“What’s that?”
“Oh, that’s just Mrs. Estecito, she comes round to check on the cupboards around noon. “
“You mean... she’s a ghost?” Don, still had trouble grasping how the spiritual and physical mixed together, but you were in no rush, he had all the time in the world to figure it out.
“Mhm.”
“Can she.. walk through walls and stuff?” you had to giggle at that, at least he was no longer calling you a liar and refusing to believe what he saw.
“Yes, Don, ghosts can walk through walls.” you confirmed sitting back on your chair, deciding you’d done enough work for today. It was time for rest.
“Do you think she’s.. you know... seen us... uhm...”
“Ha ha, seen us what, Don, having sex?” how was he still so charming after being with him for so long.
“Yeah?”
“She’s not a creep, Don, of course she hasn’t.” he didn’t seem convinced - good, he shouldn’t be, that’s a shit excuse - “Besides, my bedroom has a warding spell - no one I don’t want in there can enter... And for every time outside my bedroom, well... she must’ve enjoyed quite the show...”
.
.
.
Happy monsterfucker month (yes, I will be using that all month, get with the program). Leo’s is, as per usual, the shortest, but what do I say, he’s a man of few words.

This set REQUIRES the following sets: • Water Bucket – Fetch Water Any ONE of the following for fertilizing: • Natural Nutrients – Large Fertilizer Sack • Livestock Sets – Animal Dung Any ONE of the following for vermin control: • Corn Fed – Vermin Control • Boldly Grow – Scarecrow Army Additionally to make specialty teas, parts or all of the following sets are required: • Herbs, Spice, And Everything Nice – Various Herbs • Ultimate Fruit Collection – Various Fruits
See below the cut for use instructions.
Download Tea - SFS Download Coffee - SFS Download Dalish Tea - SFS View/Download at the Keep
Tea Production It all starts with the Industrial Tea Crop. A plant that enjoys sub-tropical and tropical climates, this industrial field is non-seasonal. Instead it operates on a 20 day cycle representing a standard sim year. As an industrial style field, it still requires no direct maintenance but must be protected from vermin and is subject to a blight disaster occurring. Every 20 days, the field must be re-fertilized to be kept going. To start a tea field, purchase it from the catalog gardening section for $50. Upon placement, a sim has 3 days to fertilize the field with either 3 sacks of fertilizer or any 30 animal dung. If a sim misses this fertilizing window, the field is dormant until 20 days have passed. Upon fertilizing a field will become lush and begin its harvesting cycle. Every 72 hours, a field can be harvested for 5 fresh tea leaf baskets. These baskets can be used to stock the fridge for food points, sold for profit or separated for drying. If a basket is separated for drying, it will produce 1 fresh tea leaf pile into a sim’s inventory. A fresh tea leaf pile when placed in the world starts a drying timer. It takes 48 hours for tea leaves to dry. Once dried they can be gathered back into a harvest basket; thus producing 1 Dry Tea Leaf Basket. A Dry Tea Leaf Basket may be stocked for food points, sold for profit, or separated into Tea Leaf Canisters. These canisters can be stocked for food points, sold for profit, or used to make tea in a teapot. For sims who want fresh tea but don't want to work on an industrial scale, they may purchase the Dwarf Tea Bush (pot not included). This smaller version of the tea bush will produce one basket of fresh tea leaves every three days.
Autonomy Specific Sims can be assigned the harvest chore by providing them with a Harvest Basket. Once placed into their personal inventory, they will autonomously harvest fresh tea leaves. Their harvest will either be placed into their personal inventory or business owners. This means you can gift visitors and employees baskets to get them to work in your home or community businesses. The Harvest Basket can be purchased from the Buy catalog under Hobbies -> Miscellaneous. Note that while the advertising is high for Sims to perform autonomous chores, their desire to work will be based on their personality, needs and distractions.
Brewing A teapot will brew a blend of water, tea, and various other ingredients to produce teas and tisanes. These can be just for food, or produce special effects on a sim. Every cup asks for a 1:1 ratio of any ingredient, and produces 1 cup. Each cup takes 5 minutes to brew. Alternatively, for some teas a sim may brew a batch which asks for five times the original ingredients or a larger version of a harvest item, and produces 5 cups. • Any sim may brew a beverage tea but more advanced teas will require more advanced Logic skills. • If you’re using a business when brewing teas, ingredients must be in the business owner’s inventory for other sims to brew tea as well as the owner. Tea Pots All teapots can be found in Appliances > Small Appliances. Most are slaved to a decorative host version and some have been made standalone. A folder of Master Meshes has been included in the download. Recipe Notepad
*Preface: The ingredients named for use in these teas/tisanes are not meant to be accurate or instructional for real life use. They are also not completely accurate in usage, and were combined based on cross-referencing several internet sources. Tea recipes WILL NOT be changed for “accuracy”.
A handy add-on so that brewing doesn't have to be memorized or even remembered at all. Simply have your sim look up a tea recipe on this notepad and ingredients will be displayed. Sims will gain a tiny amount of cooking skill from viewing recipes.
Pot Heater
This is a deco item with a slot that is meant to be used in place of placing a pot on a stove or such and give the sense that heating via coals is being done. It can be found in Surfaces > Misc. Two recolorable subsets, the coal holder and the rack itself. *Note, sometimes it must be placed on the floor to fill the slot, or moveObjects must be used.
Teas/Tisanes Teas come in a medicinal size only. Cups are slaved to the Pottery Super Set and recolorable. All teas may be placed on various surfaces, however once they are placed they are considered 'in use' and cannot be moved with the moveObjects cheat. Drinking of tea is autonomous. Can be placed on OFB shelves sold in OFB style businesses, will restock from inventory, and won't spoil. All Beverage Teas: Give a boost to energy, comfort, hunger, and body temperature. They have no additional effects on a sim. •Black Tea •Green Tea •Honey Tea •Citrus Tea All Herbal Teas: Give a boost to hunger, and body temperature, and additionally they impart effects on a sim. •Calming Tea: Boosts Comfort, decreases Energy. •Cleansing Tea: Boosts Hygiene. •Energizing Tea: Boosts Energy, Fun, Mood, and Comfort. •Fertility: Increases the change of a female sim becoming pregnant. •Virility: Increases the chance of male sims impregnating other sims. •Invirility: Decreases the chance of male sims impregnating other sims. •Twin Tea: Causes a sim to have twins from a pregnancy. •Concentration Tea: Speeds up skilling like when sims are in the autumn season. All Medicinal Teas: •Cure All Tea: Cures sims of any sickness and boosts all motives. •Birth Control Tea: Prevents a sim from becoming pregnant. •Miscarriage Tea: Causes a sim to miscarry a pregnancy. All Creature Teas: •Plantsim Tea: Turns a sim into a Plantsim. Immediate effect. •Vampire Tea: Turns a sim into a vampire. Immediate effect. •Werewolf Tea: Turns a sim into a werewolf. Immediate effect. •Witch Tea: Turns a sim into a neutral alignment witch. Immediate effect. •Zombie: Turns a sim into a zombie. Takes roughly 24 hours to take effect. Multiple doses stack. •Anti-Jealousy: A sim who consumes it no longer is affected by jealousy for a period of time. •Resurrection Tea: If consumed by a ghost, the sim will come back to life. Not to be used by the living. •Love Tea: Makes other sims take notice of whomever drinks it for a random period of time. All Poison Teas: •Sickness Inducing Tea: Gives a sim food poisoning like symptoms. •Assassin’s Tea: Instantly kills a sim.
CRITICAL FILES All files in the ZCritical folder need to load after teas themselves and should not be deleted (unless noted underneath). These are commands from original potions special teas were based off of and are needed for them to function properly. Additional Notes: • Sun&Moon-Tea_ZCRITICAL_WitchMemoryFix - This file may be removed if you use Pescado's CreatureFixes. This file specifically let's sims get a witch memory when they become neutral witches which is not a baked in maxis behavior. • Sun&Moon-Tea_ZCRITICAL_MiscarriageMemory - This is the Inteen Miscarriage Memory with a name that just matched the set. It may be deleted if you use InTeen, but recommended to make sure the original file loads after teas. • Sun&Moon-Tea_ZCRITICAL_TestForPregnacy- Same as Smonoff's. It may be deleted if you use the original potion set, but recommended to make sure the original file loads after teas. DUPLICATE FILES: The following files are duplicates found in other sets. Bonus #1: Coffee
Coffee works the exact same way as tea does. It must be grown, the coffee cherries dried and gathered before they can be brewed (roasting before brewing is an implied step and not required before use). The coffee set includes an industrial crop, dwarf bush, and a standalone brewing pots. Coffee can only be made as a beverage but the energy gain from it has been increased from that of tea beverages.

Fiction Recommendation 17
I can’t believe it’s already half a year since the last fiction recommendation, so I guess its high-time for another round! Still Xicheng-centric and as with previous recommendations, the fictions are recommended based on my personal liking and not listed in any particular order other than when I read them. I also apologize for the crude summaries…
Canon/semi-canon
1. 再晨 by 说快板的鸣筝
Post-mdzs - in which the foreign golden core in Jiang Cheng’s body finally consumed his spiritual energy, leading to the sect leader’s untimely death. Cue a year later, Lan Xichen returns to Gusu after his travels with a kid that is the identical image of Jiang Cheng. They say he is the former sect leader’s reincarnation, but what if he is more than that? Still-updating.
2. 错 by 沐
Post-mdzs abo-universe. Rumor has it that Lan Xichen lost his omega Jin Guangyao at the Guanyin temple. One night, after drinking, Lan Xichen was helped by a mysterious Samaritan with a lotus fragrance. Jiang Cheng promised his assistance in seeking out the person. But other things come up first, involving the remaining cultivators in the Su sect and Jiang Cheng’s close brush with death.
4. 水龙吟 by 桃蛋白
Lan Xichen is summoned by Jin Ling’s distressed cries, only to see Jiang Cheng’s body and memory return to his teenage years. Now that Jiang Cheng has forgotten the past, relationship between him and Wei Wuxian seems to be mending again. Only later do they learn that this is part of Jiang Cheng’s plan, to return what he owes to Wei Wuxian. *Warning for somewhat girly/childish Jiang Cheng when he returns to his teenage years.
5. The Beginner's Guide To Moving On by messenger18
“Jiang Cheng is jaded, bitter and miserable. Lan Xichen isn't sure he can ever trust anyone again. They've always been at the periphery of each other's lives, perpetually visible but never touching, and it seems it's going to stay that way. Then Jin Ling and Lan Sizhui fall in love, and everything changes.
Thrown together as the only single men in a family full of couples, neither is exactly happy about their situation. But when two lonely people find each other, sometimes they can be a little less lonely together.”
6. 天下第一美男子 by 呦呦鹿鸣
One-shot fluff. They all say Zewu-Jun is no.1 on the cultivator rank. But for the sake of finding a missing silver bell, he is willing to drop from rank.
7. 浮生缘 by 路卡卡
Post-mdzs. A story of how Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen come together: from casual drinking to teaching the Lan sect leader how to swim, to saving one another during night hunt.
8. 相逢一笑 by 云中雁
The lanterns which travel on the river will capsize right around the bend. That was what Jiang Yanli said after Jin Zixuan rejected her yet again. Many years later, one lone lantern makes it past the bend with Lan Xichen’s help. A fiction about how Jiang Cheng overcomes his emotions about his golden core.
9. 绾青丝 by 清歌晚吟
One-shot. Long hair, short hair - Lan Xichen seems to have difficulty choosing between them.
10. 万万没想到 之 真假美泽芜 by 戊己壬癸
The secret of Lan SiZui’s bloodline is out! But that comes after he is seriously wounded and needs a special herb to cure it. The only known herb location? Lotus Pier.
Or: a story in which Wei Wuxian tries to steal the herb and in the course of doing so realize something between the Jiang and Lan sect leaders.
11. 论如何强行打破江宗主的“相必吹”魔咒 by 我想吃八宝粥
When it comes to matchmaking, our dear Sect leader Jiang has had no luck. But he doesn’t give up yet! With the help of Zewu-Jun to guide him, he’ll certainly find his soulmate, right?
12. 原来你也是断袖 by 老蚌怀珠
Headless livestock that can move about? Our Jiang and Lan sect leaders are on the case!
The story starts off with Jiang Cheng noticing the more-than-comfy relationship between Jin Ling and Sizhui. But perhaps he needs to worry more about himself than the juniors. A couple of directed remarks from others and the incessant ringing of the Jiang sect bell later, Jiang Cheng realizes that he might’ve fallen for Lan Xichen. **Warning for R18 content in one of the chapters.
13. 岁月穿堂 by 采风写歌
Semi-canon abo-verse. In a bet to see who could obtain the blood jade and become the head of cultivators, Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen head out towards the Yu family mountain. There they learn more about each other’s past and grievances.
14. 五次泽芜君试图把江宗主哄上床,一次他成功了 by 松香雅韵
Jiang Cheng has a tendency to not rest, whether it was during his teenage years where he stayed up practicing his sword, or when he is older and tasked with running the whole sect. Lan Xichen takes it upon himself to coax the other to rest. One-shot.
15. 板栗 by 江家兔紫
Everyone knows that Jiang Cheng hates to eat chestnuts, partly due to painful memories of happier times. Lan Xichen convinced him that it is not that bad.
16. Upon Our Silver Bridge by TheWanderingHeart
“Lan Xichen's sorrows have caught the attention of something. Unlike the adventures and foes they have faced before, there is no obvious enemy here to defeat. If this is the same thing they thought had taken Nie MingJue's life, then he believes it is fated for him to die as well. Nothing can stop the black fire when it wants to burn.
Jiang Cheng is sure his part in this is over. Wei Wuxian is back, his grand adventure concluded, and he'd never been at the centre of it anyway. So what does it matter what happens to him in the end?
Slowly, he will come to realise that there will always be a battle to fight, a story to tell, a choice to make, and there is no such thing as an end to anything.”
AU
1. 爱情的智齿 by 奔跑的毛毛
Modern one-shot AU. Four years ago, Jiang Cheng went overseas to train as a dentist, breaking off his relationship with Lan Xichen. Four years later, Lan Xichen is suffering from a wisdom tooth ache. His secretary recommends him to a newly opened clinic, and the dentist? None other than his ex-boyfriend who ran away four years ago.
2. 针锋相对 by 奔跑的毛毛
Modern AU - Dr. Jiang and CEO Lan. Being a maternity specialist, Jiang Cheng has seen it all, including men who are not willing to take responsibility for their partner’s pregnancy. Then he meets CEO Lan, whom he mistook for ‘one of those’ men again, only to be proven wrong.
3. 飞鸟 by 我和我的邻二氮菲
Modern ABO-verse. Have you fall in love with a person who is like a bird? Someone who seems to escape through your fingers?
Or: the story where Lan Xichen thinks that Jiang Cheng doesn’t care about him anymore. One-shot.
4. 君到姑苏见 by Jessica卡卡
Mermaid AU. Many years ago, Lan Xichen disappeared. Jiang Cheng goes out to find him. One-shot.
5. 情迷维也纳 by Jessica卡卡
A car accident temporarily robs Jiang Cheng of his eyesight. During his recovery, Jiang Cheng goes to Vienna for a visit, and meets his romance there. One-shot.
6. 财神到 by 蘅蘅
Every new year the gods come down from Heaven to carry out the errand of the God of Prosperity: delivering money to the designated One. Jiang Cheng seems to always end up helping the special needs, until he meets a blind pianist. After that he doesn’t want to return to Heaven anymore. One-shot.
7. 大侠也要过年啊 by 说快板的鸣筝
To help those in need is one of the tasks of being a hero. Jiang Cheng helps a scholar in need and is trailed by said scholar under the pretense of giving thanks. Turns out that the ‘scholar’ might be someone he admires. One-shot.
8. 相思无解 by 江挽月
Jiang Cheng’s profession is to restore valuable old paintings. One day he chances upon an old painting drawn by an unknown artist. Despite this, something in Jiang Cheng tells him to restore the painting, along with the memories and illusion that are kept within. Warning for angst.
9. 表面上针锋相对实际上根本就是在调情 by 江挽月
One-shot fluff. Every since they were young Lan Xichen has bested Jiang Cheng at everything: at school and even at work. But who is to say that enemies on the surface aren’t secret lovers?
10. 家长里短 by 发条薇
One-shot. Yu Ziyuan finally decides that she has had enough of her unhappy marriage and files a divorce. Her unborn baby signals the start of a new life. There to support her are the wives of the Jin and Lan families, along with Cangse. This is a story about XiCheng growing up together.
11. 秋水误平生 by 是星辰啊
Lan Huan is a mountain god, protecting all living things on the mountain until one day, a youth soaked in blood crashed onto his mountain. The youth is chased by the notorious black dragon tribe, but is saved by Lan Huan, who adopted him as his disciple. Years went by, the two’s relationship develop, to the point where they are willing to sacrifice for one another. A story of reincarnation and continued searching across lives.
And one more non-XiCheng but Jiang Cheng-centric fic rec because I love that character so much: murky waters by newamsterdam
Convinced Jiang Cheng and Wei WuXian will never reconcile of their own accord, Jin Ling takes matters into his own hands by trapping both of his uncles alone, together, without their cultivation.

Tia
Despite having been surrounded by goods for the majority of her life, Tia had never really shopped at a market. Good thing to, as one trip with Met had pushed her to the brink of insanity.
“You need the Falcon-face.”
“I keep telling you there’s nothing here like that!”
“Fine, Chickpea! You call them chickpea.”
They were standing in front of a small stand by the wall of a disused warehouse. The vendor- selling sacks of diamond dates and almonds- looked quizzically at the pair as he handed Tia a bag of chickpeas.
“I call them falcon-face because that’s what they look like.” She held up a wrinkled pea for Tia to stare at. “You can even see the beak!”
All I see is a crazy lady with a shopping bag full of crazy things
Ever since she’d announced that Amara needed further treatment, Met had taken Tia on a madcap tour of the city hunting for ingredients. They hadn’t gone to official market spaces. Oh no; they had gone to private stores, rootcutter stands, alleyway shops and other shady places picking up Goldwood fustic, alum gel, strange herbs Met called ‘mouse-tail’ and ‘hair of the earth’. Even if Met had brought Udana back from the brink of death, Tia didn’t want half of the things they had bought anywhere near Amara.
“So, what do you want?”
“What?”
“To buy. Is there anything you want to buy for yourself?”
“Oh, um...” Dammit why was this woman so good at taking her by surprise? “Well...Amara’s night scarf got burnt in the storm. Maybe we can get her a new one? A really pretty one, though. Nothing cheap.”
“A courting token!” Met seemed delighted. “Though I don’t see why it needs to be pretty, she’ll be asleep when she wears it.”
“I might see it!”
“How would you be close enough to see it?”
Silence. Awkward, sticky silence. Met’s lips curled in a knowing smile while Tia’s own features morphed into a sulky glower.
“Well we can see to that later. Right now, I think I’ll buy you some food and drink.”
Met’s proposed eatery was a gritty little coffeeshop next to one of the main tributary streets that lead to the city’s festivities square. A few stone tables were set against it, upon which were sat a few old men leaning over aromatic bowls of tea as if they were in prayer, coils of fragrant steam moistening their wrinkled faces.
“This is it?” Tia asked
“OK so it’s not a poetry club.” Met admitted. “But you’ll be hard pressed to find a more accommodating place in the whole city.”
Just then two burly men came out, arms crisscrossed with scars and smoking cigarettes down to stubs. They took off a bit too fast for Tia’s liking. As they stepped inside, she wondered what Met had meant by ‘accommodating’.
The inside was pretty much what she had expected: shadowed walls, clustered together tables, an old fan pushing the heated air around instead of cooling it. Faint smell of baking came from downstairs as a young woman brought pastries and coffee pots up to the customers.
“Hey Amniah!”
The waitress saw Met and her rayiha came out as the scent of roses.
“Met! Pleasure to see you I was beginning to worry...”
“Nothing to worry about, my dear. Two of the usual please, we’ll just be by the cat.”
The cat was a severe-looking star stripe nestled in a corner. Flecks of red dotted its black fur and every so often it would sneeze out a flurry of sparks.
“You know those burn houses down?”
“Oh, we know. But you give a cat some food one day it suddenly feels like its entitled to your whole house.”
Tia rolled her eyes but she could feel herself begin to smile. This place seemed rough, but it reminded her of home. Just a little.
The food was a warming brew- Estakãn it was called – along with some spiced flatbread. Met winked at Aminah, eliciting another spurt of rosy freshness.
“Do you really think we need all this?” Tia said, eyeing the sacks full of things they had purchased.
“Trying to do this without the proper resources would be like trying to pry a nail from a rotten plank with a hammer.” Met ripped up her bread and began to munch. “This requires delicacy.”
Tia didn’t like hearing Amara be compared to a rotten plank but she held back her tongue. She’d been trying to do that more and more lately.
“Just seems like a lot of herbs is all...”
“Where I was trained, pharmacology was called ‘the hands of God’. Trust me I know what I’m doing.” She took a large bite of her flat-bread and a swig of Estakãn. The message was clear: no questioning her methods.
The Hand of God. Strange as this woman was, she wasn’t a god. What Amara had displayed though- that lightning strike, that thunderous Baran- for all the tricks she’d seen and been taught in the Ports, Tia had never seen anything like that.
“What’s wrong with her?”
Met glanced up from her food.
“Do you know what a virus is?”
“A what?”
“A virus. What is it?”
Tia faltered. Her medical knowledge amounted to treating cat bites. Thankfully Met answered before she could.
“A virus is an infectious agent. It can replicate inside the cells of a living organism, cause all kinds of havoc. The dead are much the same- they latch on to the living to grow, infecting their memories with the ones they had in life. Soon the victim exists between life and death, not knowing to which they belong. The dead are buried outside city limits to prevent them from poisoning the living, both their bodies and their souls.”
She took another bite of her meal. Tia’s own churned uncomfortably in her stomach.
“The body has immune factors to repel viruses. But to guide the dead out you need a touch of ritual. I’m sure your temple friend can attest to that. Still, I trust I’ve assured you I’m not some hack dabbling in kitchen herbs?”
A challenge. This time she could rise to it.
“It’s not you buying herbs that bothers me.” She said, trying to imitate the Port master’s dry wit. “It’s the quality of those herbs. Everywhere we’ve been to has been back-alley at best. Surely there’s a proper market we can get them from?”
Met cackled at that. “The Corvus have killed all trade in this city. People can’t bring anything in without being forced to pay a hostage tax that goes up with every new week. Most merchants just gave up after a while.”
Now I know what Kapu was so mad about Tia thought.
“Barely anyone comes to the coffee-shops as a result. You may have noticed it’s pretty thin on the ground here.”
“I just assumed this place attracted a very particular crowd. One you were a part of.”
A man in the corner gave a hacking, grisly cough. Met’s eyes narrowed.
“Surely there’s other ways to make business. Can’t they provide for the Corvus? Cook, translating, anything?”
“No city local works in the nest. People from off world came with them to cook and clean and the like. But no locals.”
“Because they could poison the food?”
Met looked impressed. “You catch on quick don’t you?”
Tia shrugged. “I had a demanding childhood.”
“I’ll drink to that.”
They clinked their cups and swigged down their drinks. Tia had tested the water. Now she was going to push out a bit further from the shore.
“Why are you helping us?”
“A doctor’s duty.” She let out a mirthless chuckle. “There’s a high chance that shards of the dead have now worked their way into Khedes. You saw me pull out that piece back when your friend shocked me. If there’s any possibility of her being in danger... I need to make sure what kind of dead thing this is before attempting a cure.”
“If you don’t what kind of dead it is and can’t make a cure without knowing, what’s all this?!” Tia said, gesturing to their sacks.
“Those are the tools that will help me smoke it out.”
“You make it sound more alive than dead.”
“You’ll find the distinction gets blurry around here.”
Silence. Met raised her head and fixed Tia with those lovely brown eyes.
“Khedes is my reason. For everything I do. If I think there’s a threat to her, I will isolate it and kill it without hesitation or reserve. Something tells me you can understand.”
A threat this time, not a challenge. But also, something more, something sadder...
“I do understand.” Tia answered. “And I want you to know- I feel exactly the same way about Amara.”
And the others. But don’t tell Temple girl I thought that she finished internally.
Met smiled. A real smile, full of understanding and a light that broke through the tiredness that had been casting a pall over her face.
“I know.” She patted Tia’s had gently. Instantly she felt a wave of warmth rush up her arm. She could almost imagine Amara being right there by her side. Seems Met really did know.
Just then, they walked in: two Corvus men. Their light briefly stabbed into the darkness, before settling as a halo of wispy light.
“This a red zone?” One said
“Get the guide.”
They called in a new man- one in Soljinn robes but with a head-scarf and goggles that glinted in the half-light. Likely done to protect his identity, Tia realized. No one would want their fellows to know they were collaborating with the Corvus.
“Everyone out.” He said in the Soljinn tongue. “This place is under surveillance”
He turned to the men.
“Be sure to rub your stomachs and En-alqarf. It’s how we express gratitude for the food. A ritual.”
The Corvus nodded, staring at the customers with big, wet eyes. As the people shuffled out, they rubbed their stomachs, emphatically shouting “En-alqarf! En-alqarf!”
It was ridiculous. Tia noticed the translator was struggling to keep a straight face. The last man to file out the room hissed a word at him. Yehjib. The man’s smirk vanished. He followed them out.
Tia made to get up too, but Met grasped her hand. Slowly shaking her head, she directed Tia back into her seat.
“Hey!” One of the men barked. “You ladies hear us? It’s not safe here.”
Still they sat.
“What they doing keeping company like this anyway?” The corvus were now standing over them, their light slithering in ripples over Met and Tia’s skin. “Don’t they know what kind of men come here?”
“Can they even understand us?”
“Maybe they’re from one of the universities.”
“Where the fuck did the guide go?”
“Maybe this one’s a widow. Widows always end up in places like this. Or worse.” He sniggered.
Still no response.
“Nah.” The light around the men brightened and hardened. “They’re ignoring us.”
In a flash, Met grabbed the hands of both men. Their eyes widened and their light began to flicker madly until it gave out entirely. Then they both toppled down.
Darkness flooded back. Met breathed out.
“I hope you think I’m more than a mad woman.” She said. “And be sure to tell that Temple girl you’re her friend. You never know when that chance will be taken from you.”

Growing Basil: A Full Guide For Indoor & Outdoor Gardeners
Basil is every gardener’s most loyal floral friend.
If you are embracing the natural lifestyle, then growing herbs is one of the simplest ways to begin nurturing your own food from home. No need to pop down to the local grocery store for those culinary herbs, when they are ready and waiting to be tasted, just a few steps away!
Basil is a must for all gardeners. Popular in Italian and Asian cuisine, it also makes a beautiful, aromatic ornamental in your garden. I can share by experience that Basil is one of the easiest herbs to grow. Whether you are an experienced gardener keen to learn more or just getting started, this guide will take you step by step through everything you need to know about growing this stunning herb. Knowing how to grow Basil is just a few simple steps away, so keep reading!
Basil Benefits & Uses
The name Basil is derived from the Greek word Ozo, meaning ‘to smell’. Quite apt for such a pungent herb, which smells similar to aniseed or cloves. Originating from southern Asia and islands along the southern pacific, most Basil plants arise from the common Sweet Basil (Ocimum Basilicum). For hundreds of years, the leaves, flowers and seeds of the plant have been used in traditional medicines to treat a wide range of human ailments.
Basil essential oil has become a popular natural means to improve our overall health and well being. Basil ointments are used to improve the luster of skin and hair, and to treat various skin problems such as acne, blackheads and scarring. In our frantically busy and often stressful lifestyles, Basil oil can serve to alleviate symptoms such as mental fatigue, tension, depression and muscle pain.

At present there are more than 50 Basil species or cultivars out there, so plenty to choose from!
Here are some attractive Basil plants to try:
Sweet Basil 0.98 to 4.9 ft: annual, the most widely available; leaves are large, rich green and oval-shaped; with white flowers; carries a minty or aniseed aroma; grows bushy and upright.
Holly Basil 12”—24”: perennial, indigenous to India, with dark, purple foliage and flowers; clove-like aroma; hairy stems; known for its ornamental appeal.
Lemon Basil 12”-18”: lemon-scented with white flowers; leaves are similar to Sweet Basil but are narrower and serrated; used in Thai cuisine.
Aristotle Basil 8″-10″: short, compact plant, perfect for growing in pots indoors; lovely in salads.
Red Rumin Basil 2.3 ft: deep purple foliage with pink flowers; beautiful ornamental, known for its pungent aroma; used in salad dressings and garnishes.
Other hybrids include: Cinnamon Basil, Camphor Basil, African Blue Basil, Licorise etc.
how to grow Basil from seed
Basil is easy to grow from seed and is often the cheapest method. It does not do well in very cold or humid conditions. Follow these growing guidelines before getting started:
For hot climates: sow Basil just before summer begins and then again near the end of the summer season.
For cooler climates: sow Basil in spring and then right through into summer.
Determine your local frost dates early on. Only plant once the threat of frost is well out of the way, and the days are warmer. To be better prepared, keep a note in your diary each year, regarding when and how long frost occurs each year.
How long does it take to grow basil from seed?
Basil seeds take 7 to 10 days to germinate and then between 50 to 75 days before it is ready to harvest. It is easy to grow indoors and outdoors and flourishes with 6 to 8 hours of full sunlight. I recommend first planting the seeds indoors and then transplanting outdoors.
our 7 step basil growing guide:
Now, let’s get those GARDENING gloves dirty…
Make sure you have the following:
Basil seeds
Compost/ potting soil
Seed tray/ container
Large rectangular tray
Lid- preferably transparent and perforated
Gardening gloves
Watering apparatus- spray bottle
Starter pots/ containers (3 to 4 inches)
Still finding ways to reduce, reuse and recycle? Here are some creative container ideas:
Try reusing or up-cycling things around the house. Keep aside any shallow containers from your grocery store, and use these as seed containers. Even better if they come with a lid as it creates an ideal ‘greenhouse’ for germinating seeds indoors. Other reusable items include: ice-cream containers, egg trays and milk cartons. If you enjoy up-cycling things, then try using tins or jars as seed containers. Remove the labeling, tie around a colourful ribbon or fabric, and Voilà, you have a uniquely designed starter pot.

Basil Seeds Are Small & Tricky To Handle- Here’s A Quick DIY Tip On How To File Your Seeds
STEP 1: Get your seed tray/ container ready
Select your container. Insert small holes at the bottom of your container to encourage soil drainage.
Fill your container with compost until ¾ full.
Place the large rectangular tray underneath the seed container.
Moisten the soil with water.
STEP 2: Plant your Basil seeds
Place a few pinches of seeds into the palm of your hand.
Sprinkle seeds across the soil.
Don’t be shy with your amount of seeds- it is perfectly fine if they overlap.
STEP 3: cover seeds with compost
Approximately ¼ of inch deep.
Press compost down firmly.
Water with a spray bottle, ensuring the soil is moist all the way through.
Place lid or covering over the tray and position on a sunny windowsill.
STEP 4: Keep the seeds warm, well-watered and covered
Seeds should germinate in 7 to 10 days.
Keep watering every day until the plants germinate. Once germinated, remove the covering and keep in a sunny position.

STEP 5: transplanting
Once the seedlings have 3 sets of leaves they are ready for transplanting.
Transplant carefully into starter pots or containers. For indoor gardening, transplant into a bigger container.

STEP 6: hardening-off
If you are planting your Basil outside, then it is essential to acclimatize your precious seedlings for living in outdoors conditions.
Place seedlings outside on warm days for a few hours a day, then keep indoors overnight. Once your days start reaching 70 °F, place them outside in a sheltered position for a week.
STEP 7: Planting outdoors
Select a position that receives full morning sun. If you experience very hot midday’s, then rather plant where it will receive shade during the hotter periods of the day.
Some thoughts: Basil and tomatoes make great ‘gardening buddies.’ Basil is also a natural insect repellent, deterring the harmful insects and attracting the good insects such as bees, making it a beneficial herb to scatter throughout your garden.
The garden bed or outdoor container must be at least 8 inches deep.
If assembling Basil side by side, plant them 5-7 inches apart.
Soil must be rich in organic material and have good water drainage. If needed, mix compost into your soil.
Place an inch of mulch around the base of your plant. This can be a mixture of leaves, bark and grass clippings.
Water well.

How to grow Basil from plant
Basil plants do not require a great deal of maintenance, however they will flourish under regular pruning and harvesting (see method below). To ensure a healthy plant, make sure your Basil is kept moist and in a sunny position.
When you notice the plant requiring more room for its roots, then relocate to a larger pot or garden bed. Basil is known for re-shooting itself, so keep a close eye around the base of the plant and carefully remove and replant each of the new shoots.
how much water does basil need?
Basil is not a ‘greedy-water-guzzler’, however it doesn’t like to be forgotten when it comes to watering! Certain types, such as the Sweet Basil varieties can be drought-tolerant, but thrive better and produce more leaves when watered regularly.
It is important not to overwater your plant, therefore aim to keep the soil damp- giving your Basil a deep watering at least once a week. It is also ideal to water in the mornings.
If living in warmer climates, ensure that you water twice or three times a week. Keep in mind that Basil plants in containers will dry out quicker, so water these more regularly.
Common pests and diseases & how to manage them
Basil can be susceptible to some pests and diseases particularly in areas with a high humidity.
Here is a list of the most common diseases:
Fusarium wilt
Characteristics: leaves wilting and turning yellow; brown marks on the stems; leaf drop and severely twisted stems.
Cause: fungus carried in the soil or seeds.
Cure/ prevention: no cure; immediately remove the plant and do not grow in that section for 2 – 3 years.
Bacterial leaf spot/ Basil shoot blight
Characteristics: brown or black spots on the leaves and streaks on the stem.
Cause: bacteria Pseudomonas cichorii, spread by water and infected soil splashing onto leaves.
Cure/ prevention: difficult to cure but can be managed by providing adequate air circulation around the plant and watering carefully at the base.
Downy mildew
Characteristics: leaves turn yellow, with a fuzzy grey growth on the underside.
Cause: due to very wet conditions.
Cure/ prevention: decrease overhead watering and ensure adequate air movement.
Common pests include:
Aphids
Slugs and
Thrips.
some eco-friendly alternatives for Deterring pests:
The most ideal way is to use nature itself! You can do this by attracting insect predators such as ladybugs and lacewings, which can kill common pests like aphids and thrips for you.
Mint, fennel, dill, yarrow or dandelions will attract these beneficial predators straight to your garden. You can also limit ant populations in your garden, as ants are naturally sworn to protect aphids. To do this remove the bottom leaves from your Basil bush, and apply a sticky substance to the lower section of your plant.
Ants and aphids don’t like Chrysanthemums, lavender and petunias. There are also many homemade pest sprays and natural preventative methods to try, which will help keep those tiny unwanted critters away. I recommend staying away from using liquid soap sprays in your garden, as this can be harmful to the garden.
How to harvest and prune Basil
Pruning and harvesting can be done simultaneously and should be done regularly to encourage leaf production. You can begin harvesting leaves when there are at least 6 pairs of leaves on your plant.
Pruning Basil should be done in the morning while the leaves are the most aromatic, and at least once a week to prevent your plant from going into bloom. When you see an emerging flower, simply pinch it off as you pass by.
To prune your Basil, snip stems off with scissors about ½ an inch above a node, above 2 or 3 sets of leaves, then keep the leaves aside for cooking .
If you wish to preserve your Basil leaves, then store them in beeswax wrap– a wonderful, eco-friendly, food wrap alternative to cling wrap or tin foil, that actually keeps them fresher for longer.
So here’s how the pruning is done-

So, are you ready to grow Basil now?
Absolutely! Growing herbs can be one of the most rewarding activities for those taking the steps to a more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle, so I encourage you to give it a try.
The most important thing is to enjoy the gardening journey. Once you start harvesting those stunning Basil leaves, making your own pesto and adding fresh Basil leaves to your salads, you won’t ever want to say goodbye to your trusty Basil bush. Gardening also requires patience, so keep sowing seeds and keep nurturing those seedlings each year, until you achieve your desired results.
Happy gardening! 🙂

Hi witch mums! I just found your blog and so far I love it! Everyone can use a mom in anything :) I have a questions that only a mom's advice can help. I have a horrid cold. I'm starting to lose my voice, couching so hard I nearly throw up and sneezing my brains out. Do you have any witchy/holistic cures or tips? I'm taking cold medicine right now but an extra boost would be much appreciated! Thanks bunches!
Yikes, that sounds like an awful cold.
Mme Hearth Witch recently posted a recipe for homemade cough drops on her blog here. Although you might find the making of them a bit much if you’re feeling really under the weather. Something to file away and make up a batch when you’re feeling better maybe :) If you DO wind up making them, please check each of the herbs for contraindications. Especially as you’re taking some cold medicine. If you need some resources for this, send @madamehearthwitch a PM and she can talk with you about it.
If I had to pick one single herb to take for a cough that’s gotten nasty it would be mullein (Verbascum thapsus). This herb is found ALL over. It has no known contraindications (although if you see a doctor you should tell him you’re taking it).
Making a tea with the dried leaves, letting steep for 20 min) would be my suggestion.
It is important to note that Mullein can increase coughing, but it does so as a productive cough. IE: getting the gunk out. It’s an expectorant which means it loosens the congestion and helps you cough it out.
Combine this with a hot and steamy shower/bath (or a facial steam if standing in the shower or bath is too much) to help really loosen everything.
Hope you feel better soon sweetie

:// MAGIC —
jinsol’s magical is learned, and at the same time, seemingly twined into him. muscles and memory and nerves. it feels like it. something taught to him and adopted since he was old enough to let it manifest in his mind. it’s a second nature, nearly. infusing magic with medicine. or in his case, pseudo-medicine (he calls it medicine, at least). it’s something slipped in between measurement and chemicals and crushed herbs. built into molecules and compounding in a way that seems nearly impossible. should be impossible. but isn’t. a medical miracle, and maybe if he applied it different jinsol could be finding applications that would astonish, would’ve hefted him out of the slums of elysium on some miracle cure. but he doesn’t. just finds a way to manufacture emotion, to create a fabricated sense of bliss or love or warmth for people to envelope themselves in. like whiskey to warm yourself in the middle of a blizzard. a sort of danger ignored for that immediate sense of comfort.
:// MODIFICATIONS —
despite being an elysium native and building a large enough business that he has more means than most, jinsol doesn’t have many body modifications to speak of. just two.
the first is one he got done before he worked his way up, before he was able to pay enough for something above the books. but he’d needed it in the before period of his life. less now, though it’s a comforting reminder that it’s there. if you peel back the skin of his right wrist, there lies a hollowed out tube nestled between veins and bones. resting inside is a sliver of a knife.sharp and poised near a trigger spring. if he digs his finger in near his forearm and jams down on the end of the mechanism, it cuts out out. not entirely pleasant, considering it rips through skin on the way out. it also has to be manually wound back into his arm, meaning he has to seek someone out every time he hits the trigger. it’s meant as a last ditch defense system, for a hand ideally tucked up against a throat. he used to need it, back before he was working with hades. back when he was peddling his own goods and on his own. there’s a scar on his wrist now, a jagged sort of line left over from the two times he’s used it.
the second is less intrusive. a holographic tattoo on the nape of his head, a circle ring of a sun curved around the first jut of bone from his spine. something that shimmers and shivers and shakes before it implodes. then the hologram is looped back whole once again.

a glitch – a vibrant flash of blue that reads so bright it hurts the retinas – the angle seems tipped. like the world’s off its axis. set instead on a lopsided table. baited breath, waiting for everything piled on top of it to slide off in a violent clatter. that’s the reaction the memory loop gives off when replayed. something not quite right that settles like nausea in the gut. trepidation. the unwanted kind. the memory holder’s perceptions, emotions flooding in. the room is sterile. blank-white floods the space. walls and sheets and floor. a glossy linoleum. there’s a rhythmic beep from a machine. a baby nestled in a set of arms – the memory holder’s – another glitch. the baby wails. the angle of the memory slips more. like the downward trajectory of a rollercoaster. from here, she plummets.

lee sooji, a woman with too many secrets and unwillingness to divide interest from herself. naturally, a baby doesn’t fit well into the equation. even if it was planned. there’s not a lot of picture perfect anything that happens in elysium, but she’d always liked the idea of that. perfection. it’s hard to obtain though. even with a knowledge of chemical-infused magic that gave her the ability to create and shape her own world in the form of hallucinogens. is it a surprise that the marriage fell apart? probably not. a lot of things fall apart in elysium. dismantled by the society around them. he moved on, she was stuck with a baby that she didn’t really want. ignored at first. sharp cries, neglected fits. palms fit to ears of someone who constantly decided she was too young to deal with this mess of a life.
her feelings changed overtime. not dramatically, in a wild shift of personality. but slightly. when jinsol started to take shape more as a human than living soundbox. she liked some things, and she could list them off in a way that was reminiscent of explaining why one preferred a certain restaurant. she liked the adoration in his eyes. the way words could be pieced together into loving sentiments, something that seemed to runaway along with her ex husband. and sooji had always liked that. adoration. she valued it above nearly anything else. instilled the same beliefs into a young mind. he grew under fickle reliance. like a plant with a broken trellis, bent with the whims of her emotions. whether or not she felt like being a mother. whether or not she felt like being free of his shackling existence.

it’s a humid day. it’s distinguishable based on that summer haze of warped air that makes the floor look bent. the click-whir of a broken fan. the chunks of ice jinsol has shoved into his cheeks, like an overambitious chipmunk. not that jinsol has any idea what a chipmunk is, he’s never seen one. just the scattered pigeons with broken-toed feet that loiter near the bottom step of his building. he looks like a wild thing. a smattering of band-aids covering scabbing, knobby knees. overgrown hair that hangs knotted in his eyes. a dirty smudge near his nose. gangly colt legs thrown over the edge of a dilapidated couch. he’s alone. some might say he’s too young to be alone, but he’d brustle up defensive at that. independent. biting off more than he can chew, but he’d rather swallow it down and half-choke than risk his pride and spit it back up. there’s a children’s cartoon projected up from an old holo-box sitting on a coffee table. sometimes it fritzes, and he stretches out a leg to thwack it with his heel. every ten minutes it seems like there’s a run of commercials hoping to sell him synthetically flavored juice. eventually, he loses patience and separates himself from the show, slips outside the door. some might say he’s too young to be running around the streets of elysium on his own. jinsol would cut them a smile, jagged and feral. a boy raised by chaos and the immediate impulses of a six-year-old.
21490714_jinsol.txt
jinsol’s youth is cut up into fractured pieces. the moments when his mother was there, and the moments when she wasn’t. his morals are ambiguous, lessons learned infrequent. and sometimes best avoided anyway. it depended on her mood, that’s what he learned. and it turned him desperate. seeking affection in a way that could turn near-violent. he’s a mirror image, in some ways. her reflection. has a constant needing for affection and validation. and when she gives, he takes. soaks it up. he likes it best when she’s at home with him, and jinsol babbles this out often. she regales stories in his ear, drifting off in the crook of her arm. humid ‘ i love you’s whispered against her neck, and she tells him just how much she loves him back. he can tell when she’s going to disappear by the look in her eyes. it’s like a lightswitch that only she can reach. a blank stare, or an emotion he can’t quite piece together yet, but he knows it’s bad. knows it makes him feel bad.
it’s resentment, but that’s a connection he makes later.
and then he’s on his own. raiding the fridge for non-perishables left behind and amusing himself. sometimes he skips school. it doesn’t matter, nobody notices he’s gone in the overcrowded classroom. wanders the streets instead, making friends with stray cats slipping through gaps of buildings too small a fit for most anyone else. a grand adventure, that’s what he’d tell himself to keep from feeling lonely. and then she’d come back, and it’d warm his bones. chase away that feeling. would try to grip to her with nails embedded into skin when he saw that look in her eyes. until he was pried off. he thinks he left scars, when he reminisces back nowadays, kept up late at night, sleepless. tries to reimagine his mother. but he can’t remember just how violent his longing for her to stay was.
21601130_jinsol.vrml
he’s older this time, pushing the bounds of maturity. stick-skinny still, and he drowns in his clothes. his hair is stained purple. so are the tips of his fingers. a smell of potent chemicals hang in the air, something nearly palpable. it’s either from the fresh dye or the burner he’s bent over. there’s a vial clamped above it. something bubbling and neon when the fluorescent flicker of the overhead light decides to work in brief moments of unsurity. his mother’s next to him, fingers tracing spirals up and down the line of his spine. every so often she redirects his hand. murmurs words into his ear. a palm pressed to the small of his back, and it’s nearly like a transferal. pressing magic into nerves. he doesn’t think it’s how it works, really. but it felt like it at the time, sitting in that tiny, cluttered apartment. a flicker of fire and warmth and belonging as his mother taught him secrets that were hoarded in his family. jinsol wonders if they’d ever been illustrious. if this strange magic ever mattered. there’s a sizzle-pop of a noise. a change in color. the vial’s removed from the fire. eventually, his mother tests it. he holds his breathe, waits to see if there will be a change in her eyes.
21601130_jinsol.txt
jinsol loves and hates it. the knowledge he has, the strange way he can cut chemicals with magic. something that grows larger and more complex as he does. now though, all of seventeen, and he loves the connection it’s forged between him and his mother. the way she’ll gravitate back to him, pass down this strange family heirloom. and he hates it, because it robs him from her too. how she’ll twist herself up in these strange moods and slip out of his life. to find someone, something, more capable than him. more fulfilling. but he took those mismatched emotions and jammed them into his own ambitions. his mother had never really scratched past the surface of capabilities.
jinsol became obsessive, in the same manic way he tends to become obsessive about a lot of things he cares about. and with that same strange of caring, an emotion caught halfway between love and violence. he found ways to bottle bliss, press desire into pills. a manmade euphoria, and he expanded his experimentation as he got older. found a way to coax out truth from an unwilling tongue and an addled mind. trust from the wary, if only they’d swallow down some of his magic. how much of jinsol’s success is luck? if one knew what he could make, the obsessive lengths he’d go to carve out what he decided he was owed, it would be a laughable question.
21630214_jinsol.vrml
the setting’s changed in this memory. the apartment’s even smaller, and the window’s stuck. the corner doesn’t fit down all the way. a cold gust slips underneath everytime the wind howls, angry and cutting with frost. a worn curtain flutters. there’s hardly a point in it, it’s nearly transparent from sun damage. jinsol’s fingers are white from the cold. there’s a scattering of pills on a table. his hands are sticky with blood. so is his wrist. half-congealed. his face is white too, but he looks ghost-startled over cold. the shock of a situation that saps the life, leaves everything devoid of color. eventually he fumbles for an old shirt, jams it over his hand. the blade’s still visible, sticking out from his arm. his own blade. his own modification. he slipped it into the side of a client broke enough to think wiping out jinsol inventory might’ve been a good idea. a heavy-sounding curse falls from his lips. a messy swipe of his hands as he tries to collect everything upturned on the table. manic eyes and chattering teeth. a glamorous life. it’s what he yearns for. he can’t meet his own expectations.
21630214_jinsol.txt
eventually, jinsol got sick of his mother’s dizzying circles that left them both lost. he moved out, on. hellbent on turning everything she taught him into a tool for himself. a way to crawl from the sheer desperation he seemed to live in. he craved opulence and wonder. awe and admiration. for all he’s seemingly worth now, jinsol’s initial endeavors were small, touch and go. dealt with the sorts of people that were elysium born and bred. namely: none too kind. but addiction’s a market all its own in this sort of place, and jinsol took advantage of it. he’s used his mod all of twice. a painful thing, and it’s left a scar. he doesn’t know what happened to either of the people on the other end of it. he’s callous enough to wish them dead. human enough that he wakes up in cold-sweat at four in the morning sometimes wondering if he’s a murderer.
it took a while to work his way up, and maybe he used some underhanded methods. doses meant to coax out secrets, understanding, trust. worked his way up and out of what seemed to be closets advertised as apartments. until he could afford a better supply, turned his brand into a necessity. ended up getting to know some bigger players around elysium. tried so very hard to pick up his mother’s mantle – to continue that endless, pointless quest of building a perfect life.
21680512_jinsol.vrml
jinsol looks almost garish. almost. draped in twined gold necklaces and delicate rings stacked along the lines of his knuckles. catch him in the right light of the fluorescent club-shifting-neon and he might glimmer like imitation sunlight. a white silk shirt and bottle service tucked away in a back corner of the afterlife. he has money, and he wears it like bragging rights. but he thrives on it. the stares. the attention. jealous, wanting. he craves it as much as people seem to crave his drugs. a symbiotic relationship. music thrums too loud around the room. enough to shake at bones. he spins a pill between he knuckles, and his eyes follow it. like he’s considering slipping it underneath his tongue. eventually, it’s pocketed. he doesn’t want to be his mother – as losing a battle as it seems to be.
21680512_jinsol.txt
twenty-five and he’s managed to carve out his own legacy. something built on the backs of vices. exploitative to be sure. but he’d argue a necessary one. doesn’t everyone deserve to be happy? he’s got connections, buyers, more than enough clients that he’s long ago been able to afford to move into an apartment with more than one room. he likes old school opulence. likes gold and velvet. likes paper-thin silk shirts, the subdued glimmer of diamonds. maybe he’d have more money if he didn’t waste it all so carelessly. it slips like water from his fingers. jewelry, furniture, perfumes, alcohol. anything that catches his whims, the unhoned impulse controls he’s given into all is life, only now he has the means for bigger mistakes.
21690326_jinsol.vrml
jinsol’s sprawled out on a couch. crushed velvet. it’d look lavish if not for the blotchy purpled wine stain near one arm of it. music spirals from a metal-boxed contraption in the corner. there’s a blanket tossed on top of it, maybe to hide a hologram it’s meant to simultaneously project. every time he takes a breath, it sounds wet. like pneumonia’s made a home from his lungs. his eyes are unfocused, and there’s a sheen of sweet on his brow. laid out next to him are vials in a shimmering variety of colors. an uncapped bottle of something that smells potent and alcoholic. there’s a retch of a noise, but nothing comes out. he rolls to his side and nearly topples. a manic laugh follows him.
21690326_jinsol.txt
new creations are in need of a willing test subjects. that’s what he tells himself, to keep himself from reflecting that warped image of his mother. bad habits catch up to him, pile up. he ignores the repercussions. it feels, sometimes, like he grew up wrong. like he’s constantly searching and seeking and coming up empty handed. but what he’s searching for is unknown, and without a name. despite it, he tries to continue his image of faux-perfection. what else is there to live for in the wasteland that is elysium?

:// MAGIC —
jinsol’s magical is learned, and at the same time, seemingly twined into him. muscles and memory and nerves. it feels like it. something taught to him and adopted since he was old enough to let it manifest in his mind. it’s a second nature, nearly. infusing magic with medicine. or in his case, pseudo-medicine (he calls it medicine, at least). it’s something slipped in between measurement and chemicals and crushed herbs. built into molecules and compounding in a way that seems nearly impossible. should be impossible. but isn’t. a medical miracle, and maybe if he applied it different jinsol could be finding applications that would astonish, would’ve hefted him out of the slums of elysium on some miracle cure. but he doesn’t. just finds a way to manufacture emotion, to create a fabricated sense of bliss or love or warmth for people to envelope themselves in. like whiskey to warm yourself in the middle of a blizzard. a sort of danger ignored for that immediate sense of comfort.

RETRIEVING MEMORY…
21430102_sooji.vrml
a glitch – a vibrant flash of blue that reads so bright it hurts the retinas – the angle seems tipped. like the world’s off its axis. set instead on a lopsided table. baited breath, waiting for everything piled on top of it to slide off in a violent clatter. that’s the reaction the memory loop gives off when replayed. something not quite right that settles like nausea in the gut. trepidation. the unwanted kind. the memory holder’s perceptions, emotions flooding in. the room is sterile. blank-white floods the space. walls and sheets and floor. a glossy linoleum. there’s a rhythmic beep from a machine. a baby nestled in a set of arms – the memory holder’s – another glitch. the baby wails. the angle of the memory slips more. like the downward trajectory of a rollercoaster. from here, she plummets.

lee sooji, a woman with too many secrets and unwillingness to divide interest from herself. naturally, a baby doesn’t fit well into the equation. even if it was planned. there’s not a lot of picture perfect anything that happens in elysium, but she’d always liked the idea of that. perfection. it’s hard to obtain though. even with a knowledge of chemical-infused magic that gave her the ability to create and shape her own world in the form of hallucinogens. is it a surprise that the marriage fell apart? probably not. a lot of things fall apart in elysium. dismantled by the society around them. he moved on, she was stuck with a baby that she didn’t really want. ignored at first. sharp cries, neglected fits. palms fit to ears of someone who constantly decided she was too young to deal with this mess of a life.

in response the my ask, too harsh/unfair? Naw, I asked wanting your honest criticisms and advice and you gave it as academically and emotion free as possible so no hurt feelings or anything over here. Your criticism of the information out there is valid and what I was looking for and the problems Jewish appropriation, the orientalist lens and intellectually dishonesty are important to not gloss over or forget. For that I thank you. You do good works.
> on the demon/devil summoning bit (prt2) But yes I am aware there is plenty of stuff out there that I don’t want to get tangled up in. Why do you think I’m so concerned about appropriation? Spirits and things don’t recognize white privilege and I sure as heck am not going to go poking any African or Caribbean spirits let alone the Haitian ones. There’s a reason why Mexicans, Koreans and Jews and such do what they do and thankfully, I’m not so white-blind as to not understand or not respect that.
—–
Haha well no, I wasn’t entirely academic about this. I won’t claim my answer was unbiased. But thanks.
Basically I don’t recommend it, no. Like honestly with any form of paganism, the concern should be what is YOURS? Where does your family come from? Did anyone ever talk about things that go bump in the night? Any superstitions your family has? Folk religion doesn’t necessarily exist away from monotheism - usually it’s right there under the surface. Is your family Irish? What about researching the fair folk? Are they Slavic? Swedish? Italian? Where do you come from? What wisdom does your family have?
Hell you don’t even have to trace your way back to Europe. There’s a myriad of American folktales and religious/superstitious practices. Is your family from Appalachia? What about the Midwest? Are you Pennsylvania Dutch?
I think neopaganism for (white American) people serves one or two major purposes:
1.) it gives you something to connect to that fills the void that is created by the concept of whiteness. Whiteness asks people to file down ethnic differences, individual heritages, and other communal ideals in favor of the social construct of whiteness. Basically when someone who is white says “I have no culture” it’s because they and their families have denied or buried their differences in order to gain the privilege of whiteness as a construct. People feel empty and disconnected!
The BEST way to cure this feeling is to look inwards. Whiteness as a construct denied you culture and heritage! The phrase “white pride” is upsetting because it’s a pride in social privilege and oppression of other people. But Scottish pride? Italian pride? It all sounds different, yes? Neopaganism often serves to replace the denied or loss of culture people feel because of whiteness. It bandages the issue (imo) but won’t stitch you up! This is also why so much of neopaganism is appropriation of native/indigenous or middle/far eastern beliefs mixed in with generic European folk concepts.
2.) it gives you a way to remove part of yourself from the pre-constructed limits of whiteness and probably Christianity while exploring your individual spiritual needs and desires.
Basically if you feel something missing now, replacing it with a knock off of middle eastern beliefs or plastic shamanism won’t really give you what you want or need. It won’t nurture you, ultimately.
It’s possible for many people that they don’t know where their family is really from - either because of adoption or history of slavery or warfare or immigration records or…etc. but again I emphasize you can use what is local, you can glean from your adopted family or your regional (white) folk practices, etc.
If I could suggest something to any neopagan/pagan, my suggestion would be “look inside yourself and your family and ancestors. What is there?” You don’t have to love your parents or grandparents. But take the chance and research your genealogy. Do a DNA test! Research the city/town/state you live in and read through collections of local folk tales. Research local plants/herbs/animals. Connect with the world you occupy and the place you live in. I’m not saying don’t worship Demeter or something if that’s what you really want, but DO try to connect yourself to the way you live and the life you have. Connect yourself to who you are. This is why you can’t do rootwork or santeria- because that isn’t who you are or where you come from. “Paganism” is about working with yourself first and foremost. You can’t suddenly pick up a native or indigenous practice because it’s not yours, the ritual can’t have that meaning for you, it has no power because it comes from the community, the people, etc.
Similarly – would working with abbadon really mean anything for you? What would a stranger spirit give you? If you live say, in the snowy forest areas of the north, or the muggy swamps of the south, how would spirits from the Fertile Crescent or unforgiving desert help?
I don’t know what attracts you to demonolatry. I think in general if you want to work with non-Jewish/non-Muslim spirits you could, but I don’t know why you want it. And obviously I’m biased, I did choose Judaism for myself. But what do you personally want from religion or faith? What is it about demonolatry that attracted you? What calls to you about religion? What practices do you want? When you work with “spirits” you are also working with yourself and you are working with the history of those spirits, and that’s why I suggest personal, local, or familial research.
I see two different things here - one, the appropriation and two, my question of “well why this thing anyways?” The appropriation – yeah I think it treads that way from what I saw online. It’s also, like I said, pretty orientalist. I recommend against it, especially since none of it is connected to you. The second “why does this appeal to you?” I think would probably help you find what WOULD work for you, eventually. I don’t mind talking to you about that either!
If you want to work with spirits, find your own ancestors. That’s the start.

When we talk about skin problems, acne and period pimples often steal the spotlight. We often overlook the quandary of dark skin shade that can be equally frustrating when it comes to achieving white and flawless tone.
The skin comes in different shades, from tanned to white and brown to wheatish. Out of these, dark skin tends to be more problematic than the fairer tone. Not only the dark skin shows uneven patches more prominently, it also makes our lives difficult by plummeting our confidence in the outer world.
This is the primary reason why people with dark skin look for skin whitening solutions. The thought of altering your skin color might appear to be a celestial notion. But for millions of people in this world, skin color decides the magnitude of confidence they can attain, not to mention the good personality traits they acquire.
But is skin whitening that much important? The answer is probably yes. Imagine why do we always prefer puppies with brighter colors as the cuter ones? Why do producers prefer choosing a model with a fairer tone for beauty products? And why do we associate dark people with bad habits?
Needless to say, fair skin somehow acts as a tantamount of beauty and success.
Starting with the review
People often sway through the internet looking for effective remedies to skin whitening. While many options may be available, there are some that are safer and reliable than others. These are natural and herbal methods. Skin Whitening Forever is one such book that promises to deliver perfect information on skin whitening. The book is simply worth reviewing as it shows how is it better to gather every piece of information from one place rather than searching for content and suggestions from different sources. This is my review of Skin Whitening Forever eBook and how well does it do in changing your life for good.
A word about the author
The Skin Whitening Forever eBook is created by Eden Diaz who is a Jamaican dermatologist with expertise in enhancing complexions. Through her eBook, Eden tried to help people who were facing issues she had faced her entire life. She, herself has been able to successfully whiten her color complexion with several effectual methods. Passing on her wisdom to readers, the author promises to outline a formula that could work wonders for both males and female skin.
About Skin Whitening Forever Program
I tried to test this program as it had something others didn’t. The initiative is focused on drawing around methods, procedures, tools and tactics that could be used by individuals of any age, irrespective of gender. Also, the main focal point of the program is that it boasts mostly of natural methods instead of expensive over-the-night products and other artificial ones. This means that one can get an even tone without having to spend a fortune on temporary skin treatments and medications.
The product is in a pdf file and it was sent to my inbox in an easily readable format. I was amazed at the number of practical solutions one could devise out to improve skin. But most importantly, the book also focused on things you should avoid and habits you can adopt in order to get the spotless patch-less skin. We usually presume these methods to be light and non-functional but to dispel all the notions, the book was supposed to contain something unusual. I kept on reading the program and making notes in order to evaluate each aspect of the eBook.
Preparation for a faultless skin
Have you ever wondered that smoking or passive smoking can lower down the quality of your skin? Did you ever realize that the skin products you are using contain chemicals and using only herbal formulations can make a major difference? If no, then you are in for a surprise while reading this ebook.
Before getting down to the basic regime, there are points and realizations that the author successfully injects making us aware of the habits we have been indulged. These are ones that do and do not favor our skin health. The sole motto of this information according to me was to prepare our body for the methods to take effect in their entirety. For instance, if I had to clear my skin, I won’t be continuing smoking right?
The methods
As described above the methods in the book are inexpensive and easy to implement. Likewise, these are natural and do not impose any side-effects. These methods work deep into your skin and help to fade off all the patches and skin imperfections. Most of the recipes are focused on blood circulation while acting directly on melanin that determines our skin tone. As you read on, you will realize how easy it is to make the skin-transforming preparations. These are bound to cure imperfections while diminishing age spots, acne marks, melisma, dark underarms, and pigmentations.
The easily accessible magic ingredients
Before giving the review about the methods, it is imperative to list down the ingredients with which the natural recipes are made. These include the likes of rose water, turmeric, Yogurt, cucumber, lemon, honey, papaya, basil, coconut water, tomatoes, watermelon, potatoes, egg, saffron, and sandalwood.
Have you ever tried to take interest in a cooking recipe and later lost all the concentration just because it was hard to get hands on the ingredients? If yes, then you might realize how essential it is to have ingredients you can access easily.
As soon as you read about the ingredients of the Skin Whitening Forever program, you will be able to take a sigh of relief. Fortunately, almost every element is available in the house and easily accessible.
You can easily find a basil herb plant, the refrigerator was always stuffed with potatoes and tomatoes, buying a watermelon, coconut water and papaya is just a few steps away and egg or honey can be bought with regular groceries you buy every week. Things could not have become much easier. And this is the beauty of this eBook that a user will start to experience. Everything is so practical and easy to implement. The information provided will spark a ray of hope in any discouraging skin regime. The book denotes how the time is right to change your skin. How it is the best moment to try out the effectiveness of the recipes. It will allow you wanting to know more as you read on.
Some of the recipes
When it came down to the real natural methods, you will soon realize that not all are meant for you. This was because of the unwillingness to try out methods and reviews that you might have read about elsewhere. For instance, the lemon recipes did not come as a surprise as these are being tried commonly without effective results. Nevertheless, there are magical recipes worth trying. Here are some of the other unique recipes provided in the book.
A method I considered worth mentioning here is a recipe made by using a pineapple paste. I always knew that pineapple consisted of a high content of water content and is consumed for maintaining a good and healthy skin. But I didn’t know that its paste could be applied to the skin topically. Hence, I analyzed the method described in the book where you have to make a paste of pineapple along with pumpkin. The paste was kept in the refrigerator for a few minutes and then applied to the skin. The process was to be continued twice daily in the morning and during the night before sleeping.
The second method is based on a rather complex recipe including coconut. The recipe’s method integrated grinding coconut and then passing it through a sieve before keeping it under warm water for a few minutes. To this mixture, pineapple juice, chickpea flour, turmeric and rose water was added. This is a comparatively expensive method and hence one can presume its results to be better. You have to apply the paste on your facial skin to see the effects.
The last recipe one could try in an effort to not leave any reading wasted included most of the eatables we use daily. The yogurt and honey recipe can be the next step in your practical implementation process of the Skin Whitening Forever. This included mixing two ingredients thoroughly and then adding warm water to the mixture. The mixture had to be applied to the face regularly to observe the results.
The diet planning chart remains an added advantage of the book
The methods were all informative and described in a step-wise manner with proper images and illustrations. One could easily love the illustration of the Aloe Vera method. Progressing through the book, the book never ceases to amaze you through the sections of the healthy habits you can adopt for a clear skin. The content that followed allow users to take notes of the diet they can implement having. These can reduce pigmentation while the mentioned food items could help in the skin whitening process altogether.
Besides the topical methods described, the benefits of having natural fruits like papayas, bananas, mangoes, and oranges were also discussed in the book. These are supposed to refill your nutrition intake that would help heal your skin faster. There are several other foods that would help brighten your skin in a short amount of time. These were not only good for the skin but for your body metabolism as well. Some of these included pea, mushrooms and white turnips.
In the concluding parts of the eBook, you will notice a tabular representation of the diet you can walk on for whitening your skin. While one could still wonder whether this works or not, it is nevertheless a useful piece of information that anyone can jot down and practice to see favorable results. The meal schedule of each day of the week is described in a very detailed and precise manner.
The result or the transformation
When you start reaping the benefits of the common methods first, it might be hard to see any visible results. However, the transformation will eventually become visible as soon as you start trying methods regularly. You will soon discover how your skin will love some of the methods described in the ebook. You can try and know which ingredients are loved and embraced by your skin. Things seem to really work and results are evident in the first week. If you try on increasing the quality of ingredients, you will see better results. And more importantly, you don’t have to worry about any side effects, thanks to all-natural methods.
The result of the herbal remedies might appear to be slow. But the satisfaction of whitening your skin without any doctor’s fees and side-effects is unimaginable. The methods really help in making your skin lighter gradually, if not quickly. Your patches will be lightened, dark skin will be brightened and you will be achieving a common skin tone. As you try more recipes, you will soon discover the best one suitable for your skin. And this is the purpose of providing so many options in the ebook. You have the liberty to try out methods without having to worry about any side effects. This makes skin whitening a sinecure.
There are some cons too
Everything that shines is not a diamond. Similarly, the Skin Whitening Forever ebook has its own, though considerably less important, shortcomings. While one can deal with all of these, it becomes imperative to list them down:
The book is a no thumbs-up for people who are looking for instant or over-the-night results. The methods are herbal and hence, take time
The huge number of methods can sometimes appear confusing to a reader. From a list of so many methods, it can become hard to chose one that suits best
The methods are time-consuming and need frequent applications to see the results
For some, the herbal remedies might look same. If you are asked to mix, make a paste and then apply in almost every method, you might start doubting the effectiveness of the remedies.
As mentioned earlier, these are minor issues and it depends on your preferences for how you view them. For some readers, these cons might stop them from relying on the book, while for others, including me, these might not appear to be negatives at all. In the end, it all depends on your use and perception.
The verdict
When you started reading Skin Whitening Forever eBook, you may very well presume it to be another cliché piece of dermatologist writing with medical methods to cure skin. However, things will turn out to be far better than you had expected. First of all, the natural products and methods are really helpful in espousing a new diet regime with a good purpose. The eBook will make you realize that skin whitening is not only an exterior process but is also affected by the ingredients you are consuming. This means that if you improve the core health of the skin, it automatically becomes good on the outside.
For users who deemed Skin Whitening with natural remedies to be an unimaginable treatment, the book can really act as a savior manual. Through this ebook, you will not only be able to leverage the advantages of several natural ingredients but shall be able to see the difference in your confidence level as well.

Salad Recipes Filled with Herbs that Reduce Inflammation, Boost Brain Health, and Protect Your Heart
This fantastic article was written by Sarah Biren, a baker, cook, author, and blogger living in Toronto. We encourage you to check out her website here!
Whenever we hear the word “diet”, the first food that comes to mind is salad. After all, it’s low-calorie and full of nutrients from the leafy greens and other vegetables along with an assortment of nuts, seeds, or fruits for flavor. What could be healthier?
Here’s the thing – salads can become repetitive and bland with the same old lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and so forth. This is where fresh herbs come in – they’re a fantastic way to liven up your salads, adding new flavors and incredible health benefits, such as reducing inflammation, boosting brain health, and protecting the heart.
10 Salad Recipes with Beneficial Herbs
1. Dill
Dill has been used since the days of the Bible to relieve anxiety, promote better sleep, and calm an upset stomach. It surprisingly also contains more calcium than milk per 100g serving, 83 mg more to be precise! (1)
Recipe: Cucumber Salad with Dill Dressing This is a perfect last-minute salad to prepare with simple ingredients for a creamy taste.
2. Rosemary
Studies have found that rosemary enhances memory and cognition. (2) Not only that, but two tablespoons provides 16% of your daily value of vitamin A which promotes healthy skin, better vision, and protects against mouth and lung cancers. For those who are anemic, this herb contains iron, along with potassium, magnesium, and lots of B vitamins. This herb also contains manganese which is associated with lowering the risk of cancer, particularly breast cancer. (3)
Recipe: Rosemary Lemon Garlic Chickpea Salad This dish is bursting with flavor and an ideal choice when you want something filling.
3. Lemongrass
You may have heard of lemongrass in herbal teas, but eaten fresh it can also give you benefits such as relieving colitis, stomach inflammation, and indigestion. The prime chemical component in lemongrass is citral which gives it a lemony flavor, as well as powerful antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Lemongrass is also high in potassium which helps controls heart rate and blood pressure. (4)
Recipe: Spring Salad with Lemongrass Vinaigrette This salad can serve as an appetizer or a full meal with some added protein. If you like spicy food, this one is for you!
4. Marjoram
Researchers have found marjoram tea to improve digestive function and alleviate disorders such as constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, and stomach cramps. In herb form, marjoram contains antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral compounds that protects the body from diseases such as the common cold, measles, influenza, food poisoning, mumps, and other infections.
What’s more, marjoram improves cardiovascular health by regularizing blood pressure levels and lowering risk of hypertension. This herb can also reduce inflammation and aid conditions like asthma, sinus headaches, migraines, fever, and muscle aches. (5)
Recipe: Melon Salad with Arugula, Fennel, and Marjoram If you have never had melon in a salad before, this recipe is definitely worth a try. The flavors in this dish transport you into summer.
5. Cilantro
Cilantro is an underrated powerhouse of benefits: (6)
Lowers levels of bad cholesterol in the blood and in the arteries and veins, and increases healthy LDL cholesterol levels
Aids bone growth and durability
Fight vision disorders like macular degeneration
Prevents stomach issues like nausea and vomiting
Lessens stress and strain on your eyes
Alleviates eczema and dry skin
Fights fungal infections
Improves dry skin
Recipe: Carrot, Red Onion, and Cilantro Salad. Here’s a versatile dish that can complement any meal from a potluck to a barbecue, to a quiet dinner at home. This is one salad that is best served warm.
6. Basil
Basil is well-known herb, but not many people are aware of its high content of antioxidants which help prevent heart attacks, stroke, and atherosclerosis. It is also an antibacterial, and a study has found it able to treat respiratory issues and tuberculosis symptoms. (7)
Recipe: Tomato Basil Salad For anyone who loves fresh tomatoes, this one is for you! This is an easy dish to cook with ingredients you already have at home, and the result is well worth it.
7. Sage
Herbalists have been using sage for centuries to treat swelling sprains, ulcers, and rheumatism. Sage contains rosmarinic acid which is an anticarcinogenic, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory. (8) Researchers have studied this popular home remedy and found it be beneficial for:
Lowering cholesterol and blood glucose (9)
Soothing sore throats and coughs
Aiding digestive problems
Alleviating menstrual symptoms, such as hot flashes and night sweats during menopause by taking sage tablets (10)
Relieving Alzheimer’s symptoms with sage aromatherapy (14)
Recipe: Pea, Butter Lettuce & Herb Salad This versatile dish can either be served raw or cooked. The end flavor is delicious so don’t skip on any of the spices!
8. Thyme
Adding thyme to your diet can decrease high blood pressure symptoms, and thyme extract can reduce LDL levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. This herb can also protect the body from food poisoning and other food-borne illness. This makes it a perfect addition to salads! (11)
Recipe: Roast Potatoes with Lemon Thyme Vinaigrette This salad is like a comfort food, warm, hearty, and full of flavor with hardly any effort.
9. Oregano
Oregano is one of the main spices in the Mediterranean diet and a proven superfood. Oregano contains many plant chemical compounds that promote health and fight diseases, such as:

Upset stomach
Menstruation cramps (12)
Recipe: Greek Salad with Fresh Oregano This is ideal for anyone who likes the Mediterranean diet. Increase the portion and you have a full meal with tons of health benefits.

Alleviates allergy symptoms
Eases digestive issues
Relieves headaches and nausea
Clears congestion and other respiratory disorders
Relieves from pain and fatigue. (13)

The Beauty Secrets I Uncovered in the Austrian Alps
A few weeks ago, I had the most transformative experience I couldn’t wait to share with all of you. I had the pleasure of visiting Susanne Kaufmann at her spa at the Hotel Post Bezau. The blonde beauty comes from the Bregenzer Forest, a unique valley in the Austrian Alps, and has developed powerful, results-driven products (I’m sure you’ve heard of them) comprised of the cleanest, most refreshing ingredients. I was lucky enough to visit her picturesque hotel for a mini-detox and to test out her line and her treatments.
Here’s the scoop.
During my three night stay at the Hotel Post, I slept in one of the special “sleep therapy rooms.” My bed was made in a particular way to ensure deep sleep and at night, the wifi actually turns off to encourage further relaxation. The design of the room is very simple, no TV, just very zen. I ate from her Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Detox Diet, which was delicious and left me totally satisfied. The cuisine supports purification, detoxification and de-acidification of the body and the connective tissue. I could get down with that.
A typical menu sounded like this. Breakfast: hot oat cereal with fruits, pudding of chia seed with coconut and cardamom, juice freshly squeezed with linseed oil, and Susanne Kaufmann Detox Tea. Lunch: fennel tomato soup, quinoa with cucumber, bell pepper, olives and capers and SK Peppermint Tea. Dinner: stewed saffron fennel with celery, cream of parsnips and wild herbs, fennel tomato soup and SK Acid Alkalizing Tea. The teas became my addiction over the course of my stay, especially the Acid Alkalizing Tea.
The best part? I had the opportunity to meet with Susanne. I, obviously, asked her everything – from the inspiration behind her skincare line to her under-the-radar beauty secrets. Read on for my full interview with the guru.
Tell me about how you got involved with the spa.
“When I took over [the spa in 1994], there was one masseur, one therapist, a doctor, a little spa and a sauna. It was the typical European detox center, but very simple. I quickly realized I wanted to develop and focus on the spa.
A lot of the spas at the time were influenced by Greek and Italian architecture, very heavy, so I was always striving to be unique, which is why I decided to keep the spa clean, sterile, white and very medical. I wanted to have nothing in the rooms – no colors, pictures, sounds – so you can focus on yourself.”
When concepting the spa, how did you decide to develop your own line of products?
“We had tried all the big name brands – Shiseido, Estee Lauder, but nothing natural. And I was very lucky because I was told about a producer that was only 15 minutes from the hotel that has his own line using whey in his cosmetics. And at the beginning there were 24 products, now we have around 80 products. And people really came to the spa, and I didn’t know if they would like the products and would ask for Clinique or Estee, but they didn’t, they loved our line. So after a year, we fazed out all the other lines and we used only Susanne Kaufmann products. And that’s how it started.
How would you describe your skincare line?
“It’s about taking the best quality and bringing it into the skin in the most natural and effective way and really do something and work. When you bring something in very deeply, you have to be careful about what you take and which quality. For me, cooking and cosmetics are a bit the same. It all depends on the ingredients. If you make a fish that isn’t good quality, and you put on the best sauce in the world, the fish still isn’t good. And the same goes for cosmetics. You can disguise anything with fancy packaging, but if the quality isn’t right, it’s harmful.”
What ingredients make your products stand out?
“Ectoine. It’s a wonderful cell repair ingredient. When it comes to anti-aging and radiance and beautiful skin, it’s always about helping your cells work better. After we turn 25, the cell regeneration diminishes. The ectoine helps the cells regenerate and protect themselves. We have it in the whole A-Line, the advanced anti-aging line as well as well as the sun production creams. It’s from an algae, so they do it in the lab. They put the algae’s under stress by freezing them. To prevent the algae from dying, they give the algae a little ‘coat,’ which is the ectoine. This protects from the coldness. So when you go back and de-freeze them, they release the ectoine! It’s so natural and it’s a wonderful botanical active.
I also use arnica. In the summertime as a child, my parents would send me and my cousins to the mountains [to visit my grandmother]. We always had time to collect things. There were blueberries and ingredients for tea. And my Grandma was obsessed with arnica. She would make arnica schnapps. And whenever you had something, if it was a scratch, a sore throat, if you had problems with you knee – arnica cured everything. So whenever we would go up into the Alps, she would ask us to bring it. And it wasn’t for drinking; it was just for the cure.”
Have any favorite products in your collection?
“The Line A Eye Cream (which contains that entoine) and also the Skin Lighting and Radiance Complex. It makes your skin really even and removes the sunspots and age spots. But it takes time to really remove the pigmentation. If you really have those dark spots, it takes a year but it works. You don’t need lasers; the creams and serums will really work.”
You are known to be fascinated by Traditional Chinese medicine. How does that influence the spa?
“I was looking for something a bit deeper than only doing facials and massages. I always thought there was more more about being beautiful or healthy, so I tried a few different courses. I went to a Panchakarma course [aka the most effective healing modality in Ayurvedic Medicine] and it was a really wonderful experience but I couldn’t introduce this into the Hotel Post. Your hair needed to get really oily and this was more of a retreat, so it wasn’t right kind of experience.
Traditional Chinese medicine is all about preservation. You basically go to prevent getting sick. I thought this was the right thing. I didn’t want to be a medical center but I did want to prevent people from getting sick. If you come to the hotel for the whole detox program, you are seen by a Chinese medicine practitioner and your plan is based on your diagnosis.
From there everything falls into place and you get specific cuisine, treatments, movements and products. It’s a 360 degree approach. We see beauty in a holistic way. You have to look at the whole picture – not just at the skin. It’s what how eat and sleep, so we try to integrate all of this into your treatment.”
How did you choose the hotel’s menu?
“The food was really important to me because I love food. If I have a 5-course menu or if I just have some cheese and potato, I always look for good quality. Food is how you feed your cells, everything. It’s really the base. Now we see, that people eat to much yogurt and have these sugar shocks so again, its so important what we give and feed our bodies from the inside.”
What’s the deal with your famous Whey Bath?
“We are doing so much cheese here in this area. If you have 1 liter milk you are only doing 90% cheese out of this, so the remaining 10% is the whey. And there are so many vitamins and minerals in this whey. My grandmother made all these different things with whey, because it was so good for you. She even made whey soup, which I never liked. She lived to 99. The reason that it’s so good for you is because of the lactic acid. We have heard all these theories about how Cleopatra bathed in milk. Well she actually bathed whey.”
Are you now as obsessed as I am with Susanne? I thought so. To give you a little mini crash course in her skincare line, I put together a shortlist of my favorite discoveries….
It was really hard to choose, but because I am such a bath addict, I love her Whey Bath (duh) and her Mallow Blossom Bubble Bath. Both look and feel incredible and actually make your skin more hydrated. The cooling and warming foot creams are really incredible products too. I bought the warming cream for myself and the cooling for my mom and she absolutely loves it.
For skincare, I am an Hyaluronic Acid lover, so it was only natural that I gravitated towards her Hyaluron Serum. The super concentrated plant-based formula is enriched with Hyaluronic Acid to help the skin retain moisture, as well as Citric Acid to reduce the appearance of fine lines.
After experiencing the anti-aging facial at her glorious spa, I knew that I needed the power trio in order to get my pre-party facial on. This means that the Enzyme Peel, the Moisturizing Mask and the Skin Lightening and Radiance Complex are now integral parts of my skincare routine. I’ll have a tutorial on how to do this coming up!
If you try any of my recommendations, you have to keep me posted! I know they will help you get that lit-from-within glow in no time.
